dad you talk too much all right so last night me and my girl we just got finished watching the daughter's documentary on Netflix and that documentary was amazing from start to finish um if if you haven't seen it I'm not going to give it away too much but I'll just give you like the premise of it um it's basically about incarcerated fathers and the relationship between them and their daughters and then the prison held a daddy daughter dance for the daughters to be able to interact with their fathers while they're in jail and it it shows both perspectives from the father in jail and it also shows the perspective of the daughters outside of the jail just living everyday life and it just had me thinking about so much watching that number one I am a father myself I have a 5-year-old boy 8-year-old stepson and the role of a father man is so important in any kid's life but watching these little girls go through life without their dads it's like man my heart goes out to them it's like you know they don't have that protector they don't have that provider they don't have that that dad every day that's you know telling her that she's beautiful and so many different things you know that a father is to a daughter that these daughters don't get because their fathers are incarcerated man and it was it was sad to watch man and it was just like man cuz you know we're all grown and not to get too personal but I've dated a lot of women who didn't have their fathers in her life and then my girl now does have her father in her life and you know it's such a huge difference with women that don't have fathers or not active fathers and women that do have fathers and that role of a father to a daughter especially a black daughter it's it's so important it's so important that you know black women grow up feeling protected feeling beautiful like so many different things that I think a father implies on his on his kids like what a father does for you know his daughter and yeah man watching that it was like putting me in the mind of the little girl and seeing what like I know that I know I've dated girls without their dad so watching this documentary is like watching them as a little girl how that must have felt you know what I'm saying I don't know if that makes sense what I'm trying to say but it just made me be like man there's nothing more important than you know parenting parenting or parent I don't know parenting your kids um especially in our community you know black people we have a s we have this whole thing where they say you know there's no black dads you know the black single black woman um single black mothers and everything like that and it's like man I I really really just want us as a people to step up and just be better towards the Next Generation the youth and that documentary just really man it's a tear jerker I'm telling you right now if you haven't seen it it's a tear jerker just watching those little girls and you know the disappointment the amount of Love they still have for their fathers even though they are disappointed and like you know that bond is still there it it really comes down to the adults you know what I'm saying it comes down to the fathers it come down to the mothers it come down to the adults one thing I never like is when adults put their problems on their kids at the end of the day our kids didn't ask to be here you know what I'm saying so it's our responsibility to be there for them show up for him love them um and that documentary just showed you know you know I pray for each one of those little girls as they grow into women and I pray you know they find somebody that will protect and love them and the way that they father wish they probably could and wish they could have you know did things differently and not ended up in jail um but yeah man my heart just goes out it was such a great documentary it's a tearjerker again I cried a couple times s just watching it it's just like man if you know me you know I care about the youth I care about the kids I care about the next generation of you know kids and especially black kids black women black men and you know I think that documentary just really showed how important it is that us as black men step up as fathers and really be there for our sons our daughters and just be that protection be that love you know don't be afraid to you know love your kids hug your kids tell them you love them be there for them support them encourage them all that is so important as a father as a parent in general and I just want us as a culture to do better you know but yeah if you haven't seen that documentary definitely check it out again you're probably going to cry if you watch it it was so good man daughters on Netflix go see that
