play on the right towards Montiel really good side volley header comes in but a good bit of Defending from lukumi Colombia just couldn't keep it in play Alvarez was the Man in the Box he just couldn't might be offside and the flag goes up on the far side Diaz was offside he shakes his head but I think if I can see it he's uh clearly offside although it's closer than you think you know what I'm not quite so sure I think it's Leandro Martinez who might have just kept him on side Diaz shakes his head how Diaz would know because Diaz's back was turned from mandro Martinez but nevertheless that was closer than one might have thought as Argentina have the ball in defense they've got about three minutes of normal time of this first half remaining you suspect there might be two minutes I would I would guesstimate of stoppage time due to the water break due to the goal due to a couple of injuries which weren't too long but I suspect one or two minutes we will see as Argentina have the ball in Colombia's half ball is just flicked over the top and it's flicked off the head of a Colombian Defender off mcera and it goes out for a corner there a nice little ball just over the top it needed the alertness of the center half the ball just going towards niiko Gonzalez he just couldn't get there but high fives all around as parades picks up the ball to take this corner on the far side just crossing 43 minutes in this game this could be a huge opportunity for Argentina to get an equalizer cross comes in from parades flicked on it on the edge of the six-yard Box shot comes in it's blocked game they're iconic forward their famous number 10 has been out of action since injuring his ankle in that copper America final back in July that was of course the copper America final between these two sides this is a rematch of that Continental showpiece that Argentina won one goal to nil our referee is looking ready to start the second half Colombia with their yellow shirts and blue shorts are shooting from left to right and they have kicked off the second half with Argentina in their traditional blue and white shirts white shorts and white socks shooting from right to left it looks like there been one change at halim Gonzalo Montiel has come off and nahuel Molina has come on that's a changer right back Montiel had been brought into the side for this game as one of the two changes that lonel scalone had made but Montiel did get a yellow card in the first half and had a pretty TD time at certain moments against Lis Diaz so the change has been made and we we would see that quite a lot during the 2022 World Cup that scalone would interchange between his fullbacks both at right back and at left back Molina and Montiel at right back and aunia and Talia FICO at left back of think he's just caught his head on the bottom of mahika's boots I don't believe there was any foul intent there from the left back although Romero won the ball it was a little bit dangerous a little bit Reckless you know when Romero comes in he's a full-blooded Defender he isn't afraid to make a challenge and sometimes when you make those challenges you can hurt yourself and that's pretty much forward into Argentina's half to is trying to make a challenge on that far touch line Argentina of course haven't lost in 12 games they've been on such a fantastic run as Colombia on the attack here ball Falls nicely for riio he tries to cut inside really good bit of Defending ball comes loose again cut inside player goes down referee doesn't give anything Colombia appeal for a penalty they had two chances to shoot they cut inside both times the first was a wonderful tackle the second they had a player go down but play does continue Colombia with the ball at left back with mahika it's now with Lura in the center of Midfield and they lose possession and Argentina are on the attack once more they bring the ball forward right on the edge of the area the ball is left they have it can a shot come in Argentina with a huge opportunity right now and it's blocked In The End by Colombia and Colombia win the ball back right in their half and the referee gives a foul in the end for foul on thep Colombia aren't happy whatsoever Romero going halfway up the field to get in the faces of of some of the Colombian players it was Rios who cut inside good bit of Defending by Leandra Martinez just moments ago and I think Colombia have got a good right a good shout for a penalty it was Munoz the right back who went down he feels he was CAU by his shins nothing was given mun is actually saying to the referee what about that what about that challenge surely that's a penalty but right now it's an Argentina free kick in Colombia's half Muno is not happy whatsoever he feels Colombia should have had a penalty turned into his right foot and I'm not so sure it's a close one Argentina did have a player go down but the referee is moving away what does this mean is he going towards to look at a screen no he's just walking away from the players it looks like it still will be an Argentina free kick and now he's running away from the players now the referee our referee Pierro Maza from Chile he's walking towards the touch line scalone is there and he's given the symbol for v he's going to look at this penalty appeal this could be a huge turning point in this game unbelievable real moment of reprieve for James Rodriguez having given the ball away in the buildup to The Equalizer and he's now put Colombia ahead as he slowly slowly walks back to the halfway line and they are jumping for joy in the stands it really is a sea of yellow in the metropolitano as we get the game back underway as Romero squares the ball to otamendi Argentina tried to play the ball forward down the line by alandro Martinez it's a it's a good ball towards Laro he's being chased by Munoz who won the penalty of course and Munoz wins the ball back the ball is loose Columbia can't quite clear cross comes in flicked on not quite clear by Colombia still in the six-yard box and eventually they clear their lines otter Mendy was involved he couldn't quite get a clean shot off in goal header left back is coming on and Leandro Perez is coming off as Alexis mallister the Liverpool midfielder comes on mallister who had a bit of an injury at the end of their 3-n win against Chile of course he did score in that game and he really does bring a calm presence in the Midfield bringing a lot of composure as Argentina now have it attacking on the right hand side cross comes in low and high it bouncing right in the sixy box and Argentina just can't get a shot away Vargas collects it and that was a slightly worrying moment for Colombia and this will be one as well as the right short of James Rodriguez is up he's limping a little bit will this be the end of James's game of course he has been suffering with injury he's got over a 100 caps He's 33 years of age now a lot of lot of International Football he's played so will Colombia be making a change soon as they win a free kick Luis Diaz brought down just in the middle of the Argentina half just hacked down by Alexis mallister I think that's almost the the first thing that McAllister's done in this game and that's conceded a free kick that James Rodriguez although he might have a little bit of an injury he wants to take this free kick Rios is there Aras is there but I think once again it will be Hames Rodriguez not too many yellow shirts forwards moscara there cross comes in though players in space header comes in and it's wide of the post it was John Duran with a free header I think he was probably offside yeah he was offside he had far too much space the flag did come up right at the end as Argentina resume play with the ball back with Emmy Martinez Argentina just with the ball in around their area eventually they play it down the line nice flick on by Laro Argentina on the tack coming on on the right hand side ball play in but it's well defended there by mosera hooked clear with his left foot Argentina still have possession cross comes in and the header is cleared Again by Colombia good bit of Defending but Argentina are putting the pressure on ball is high Vargas with the catch but two players are down it's Nik Gonzalez and Munoz looks like they collided their heads Vargas has gone down as well he's stretching his legs players just checking on each other of course some of the trainers will come on and check for concussion and M doesn't look very good it was the ball played in by Alexis mallister a teasing cross towards the far post and in fact it's Munoz went up won the header and it's as he comes down he Clips his head in fact almost his jaw I think it's his jaw catches the head of Gonzalez so I don't think we'll be too concerned about concussion protocols although there will be a concern over the draw of the Crystal Palace and Colombian right back of course the Colombian players taking a moment just to get a little bit of water get some drink into their system with this break Jamz just still feeling his hamstring at the moment how much longer he will last I do Wonder we are in the 68th minute we are approaching the Midway stage of this second half of course it has been a really exciting game it's two goals to one to Colombia Colombia took the lead in the first half through mosera with a header after a really nice bit of play by James Rodriguez he dinked the cross in and moscara headed in from close range then early in the second half Rodriguez gave the ball away niik Gonzalez picked it up ran past the defender and put the ball through the legs of the goalkeeper and then Munoz was brought down in the penalty area Colombia won a penalty and Rodriguez scored it Rodriguez involved in some way in all three goals what a way to make your return back to the National s's first 11 having been a substitute for their 1-1 draw against Peru on Friday so Argentina have the ball the play is back underway Alexis mallister just flicks it over onto this left hand side towards auna good sliding tackle though by Munoz who's back on the field Colombia will be really hoping that they can see out this lead and and they have the ball now not too many options forward for John Duran he eventually just plays it back and the ball is Switched towards mahika he's Galloping towards that Argentinian defense has played out to LS Diaz he's right on the edge of the area plays it back to mahika he thinks about a cross gives it back to the Liverpool man Diaz just contemplating his options and Colombia play the ball back as I'm mentioned if there isn't anything going forward they're not afraid to play it back and certainly when they have the lead with about 20 minutes to go in this second half you can't blame them for being just a little bit cautious they'll want to get the three points against the world champions the South American Champions Argentina yes there's no lonel Messi yes anhel Di Maria has retired but this is a really strong Argentinian side nonetheless so many of the players on this field if not all if I'm not mistaken were part of the squad which won the World Cup so there's plenty of experience on the field for lonel scalone Argentina they have it ball comes in towards theer they got the shot away no Columbia defend in their numbers once again they've been a good unit at the back they've been a little bit nervous at times when they've had the ball at their feet and certainly Vargas the goalkeeper had a pretty hairy moment in the first half ball is played again towards Alvarez he can't get there good bit of Defending Argentina just trying to probe trying to get the ball forward but again Colombia are defending well Diaz tries to break but Argentina win the ball back in fact the referee has given a foul by Luis Diaz and Argentina will have a free kick Argentina continue to play the ball forward now Enzo Fernandez just can't get the ball forward and Colombia now have possession in their own half Colombia of course without Davida and davson Sanchez today but they're on the attack here they have the opportunity can they get a second goal of a buffer they're on the attack can they put the ball in the box but it was good defending In The End by Argentina Niko Gonzalez now pushes forward for Argentina plays it out left to aunia cross comes in and the flick on header but it's over the bar from Laro he just got in front of his Defender moscara but a good opportunity for Argentina Laro and Julian Alvarez they've had some really good movement and they they've done some good play but they just haven't managed to really test the goalkeeper as of yet in this game really has been endtoend stuff Colombia one end and then Argentina the other as we take the water break as I mentioned temperatures reaching about 90° in baronia humidity about 70% it really is Caliente it's really very very hot in Colombia today and it is a sea of yellow in the estadio metropolitano but Argentina have got a pretty good away record in qualifiers that they're trying to keep up and they need to get at least a goal in that game they're unbeaten in their last 13 away qualifiers the last time they lost in a qualifier away from home was against Bolivia in the altitude of Bolivia 7 years ago it's a long long time and they also have a pretty good recent record against Colombia they're unbeaten in the last four games in all competitions the last time the Colombians beat them was back in 2019 winning two goals to nil but if you are just joining us for this live coverage of this South American World Cup qualifier between Colombia and Argentina we're currently having a water break because of the really comes in and it just goes wide Laro with the effort in the end Colombia have a player down holding his right leg it will be an Argentina corner I think it's Muno down he's really been in the wars in this game yeah the shot came in from Laro in the end blocked and in fact there's two players down one of them being Muno he's just being dragged up by Aras by both hands and it will be an Argentina Corner which Lelo will get ready to take he raises his right arm but it's cleared by Colombia and they still have possession on this near side Lelo now in space can he try and flick the ball forward and it just goes out of play not a great ball there from the Betis man so it will be a goal kick for Colombia they of course will try and slow the game down now they'll try and slow the clock Vargas will be in no rush to take this goal kick and it looks like Colombia are going to make a couple of Subs we'll get confirmation of that very shortly looks like it's the end of the game for John Duran late afternoon here in Colombia as Lis Diaz is on the attack can he turn on to his right foot he's trying to but there's so many Argentinian shirts he has to turn back onto his right foot he still has the ball though he's got past the challenge of Gonzalez but there's just too many Argentinian shirts there and they finally get the ball out mallister but Colombia win the ball back with Munoz Colombia have a player down but play continues ball is played over the top towards Corda he flicks on ah header he wins the ball back good play there by the Kadar forward but eventually loses possession and Malla has it as Enzo Fernandez tries to spread it towards julen Alvarez really nice first touch from Alvarez and tries to switch it now to lataro Martinez who's in space in the Box can he get through he's wriggling he goes down under pressure he's still trying to play Colombia tried to tackle and in the end the referee gives a free kick to Colombia in their half mcara is down Alvarez is going what is that for Laro is not happy at all either it was a good opportunity Laro couldn't quite get his shot away but a good bit of recovery defending by Colombia but of course I don't think mcara is going to be in any rush to get up anytime soon alaro found space cut in on his right foot twisting and turning trying to get a shot away mcara did really well though good piece of Defending from the goal scorer we in the number two shirt really good play Just moments ago from leis Diaz he had so many blue and white shirts around him but kept hold of possession and he really is an exciting talent and really a key attacking threat for this Colombian side as we've got just over 5 minutes remaining of this South American American World Cup qualifier moscara is down he's receiving treatment Enzo Fernandez is just getting a little sip of water he's getting a drink and in fact he's doing more than that Enzo Fernandez comes off and he's being replaced by Paulo dybala and what's interesting about this is Pao dibala for these qualifiers is wearing the number 10 shirt yeah yes the legendary shirt worn by lonel Messi of course there will be some people in some quarters saying perhaps that when Messi retires that shirt should retire there will be others saying how can you retire it when it wasn't retired for Diego maradana and many of the other great number 10s who
