the vehicles and carts and everything if you need them I may need to I don't use mine as much anymore I may need to take advantage of that by the way we are streaming on not only above Buffs TV on YouTube but also on the col buffal Facebook page as well how was your offseason it was great yeah brief but great I think I may be the only coach in the country I don't go anywhere I stay here like I I love it here and I love uh you know I got to wait for escape to Texas as well as I think I went to somewhere in Mexico but sure um I I like I like this atmosphere I know you I like the kids man you did some fishing though yeah when I go home that's lake is right there I can't help but I can't help but Fish Lake is in the front yard okay if I if I had to press you because I know you've you fish with your sons you fish with Travis okay who who's the best angler out of all of you me is that right yeah yeah yeah what is it about fishing the peace the serenity the challenge thereof the uh just the the challenge between you and the fish sure and 11 it yeah you know you know what they say about fishing the tug is the drug right when you when you get that bite well I like to go catching really I don't like to go fishing yeah yeah you mainly a bass guy I'm mainly a bass I like bluegill and crappie okay but that's it I don't I don't venture out do no other stuff although I did make it in Miami for a minute because I wanted to catch a peacock bass and sap sap put me on he took care of me now Warren's an Outdoorsman too is he no no he does everything does he really yeah yeah he does he he he's different yeah yeah you know I was just talking to your guys uh doing your documentary a little while ago you're doing an interview and and they they were ask me about kind of being around you and I said you know what watching Prime wears me out because you're going a th000 miles an hour 247 yeah so when you have those downtimes what what energizes you I don't really have down times I've probably been home twice is in Camp yeah I stay here every night okay yeah so I love it I love the atmosphere I love it man so just I can't wait till the game starts I think that's the that that gets me going like and seeing this this this room full every morning yeah with these young men that men that are hungry for um just word just and encouragement motivation and just love man I asked you this question to lunch the other day we going ask it here on the show I said when you wrapped up you're number one here okay you're 4 and8 we had a 400% increase of wins not where you you wanted to be what were your first thoughts about as you look forward um staff yeah yeah let make sure everybody's on the same page everybody's here for the same reason and with our two coordinators you know these guys are phenomenal like it's a better connectivity those other guys are great guys and I I love for him but I'm more of a promm minded type guy so my thought process is is down the street a little bit and you got to get guys that are like-minded that's why I think eight out of the 11 position coaches come from the NFL are play in the NFL because that's the way I think and they get it they really get it so Shing up that the coordinator position you know Rob and Sean Rob and Pat I'm sorry Sean is crazy Rob and Pat is unbelievable but then you go to the need the bigs okay is easy to entice the the skill position because that's what it was so you could get them it was tougher to get those the first time out because you now you gotta you got to develop a need so now that they saw the need they say okay we got oh we're a quarterback here all we got to do is do our job and everybody's gonna see us right and you created that need and they saw there was a lack there up and they came running would it be fair to say Prime you're number one when you came in here you were out looking you to use your term you were looking for dogs yeah you went out and found guys because you had a revamp a lineup m in year number two where you more selective very much so is that true yeah because you're able to well you know who you are you know what you want and you know what level there is that you're playing against you got to understand a lot of things we're saying okay man dang we could have beat USC yeah dang we we could have beat Oregon State dang we could have beat I mean you're thinking that but you need those pieces yeah so you go out and get that puts you over the hump but the coordination of those pieces are are also was was vital so I to coordinators man I I love the communication process that they have with the kids I really do I I wonder too from from an athlete standpoint uh in your number one you were unknown to a lot of guys in terms of what you were as a coach and so there was a curiosity Factor your number two was it different when you sat down and talk to a kid that was thinking about transferring that said okay I know what this is about I see what he's trying to do that yes I think they thought that in year number one but it was so much of an overhaul that you had to do sure first of all not just Talent you had to get mentality out of the building mentality not just in the football area but in some of the other parts of the building was just a a mentality that wasn't indicative of winning so when you flush all that and get that out of the building now you bringing new guys now you start saying okay character I know you have talent but what about your character because your character will infiltrate the whole team and take it to to to a position that you don't want so now you start say that's not character that's not character your new defensive coordinator Robert Livingston uh said in in interview I saw he said that I'm indebted to Prime because he took a chance on me and and I I bring that up only because the more I've kind of gotten to know him and The more I've kind of called around about him he's an exciting young guy I'm not sure as big a leap as maybe he's letting people believe because he's a quality football coach not only he's a quality football coach you got to understand who I'm not going to mention the names who called me about him but they validated him tremendously but he validated himself in the way he went about attaining the position he was relentless was he really he wanted it he desired it and he was pre prepared like like it was a margin a gap with all the other persons that we interviewed he was really prepared and just seeing how you know we put him on Zoom okay first game we getting ready to play uh North Dakota let's see what you got and he broke down the game yeah he had to he came and filmed he did a whole presentation in front of the defensive staff and he he hit it out of the park but he's a great communicator and listener a lot of folks come in and they just every we no way no he listens to those other guys because it's a wealth of knowledge in that room as well I I know guys like Marvin Lewis I mean some legendary coaches around the NFL he's been a part of their staff yeah you know that's got to mean something from a resume standpoint Zim as well Z is my gu that's right that's right yeah yeah and it goes farther then don't forget the guys who played for him it's one thing about the guys who he coached with but it's another thing with the guys he that played for him when they call him valate that's different when you got a coach like that you okay he's obvious you talked to Robert for 30 seconds you know he's a very smart guy right what are the intangibles you're looking for the things beyond the x's and O when you're interviewing your guy um I'm going tell you this because you you you you 100 can he get along with players from everywhere interesting explain what you mean by that black players okay white players yeah um players that that that may not grasp the scheme quickly players that may grasp the scheme quickly but may not have the athleticism just being able to communicate with everybody there are some coaches out there great but everybody in the room ain't listening interesting very he also has to be as a coordinator because both he and Pat have got staffs then on that side of the ball he's also got to be the coach of coaches too that's right that's got to be part of the equation it's got It's a tremendous part of the equation but not only that being able to Rally everyone together yeah and not divide them and not just do your thing it has to be a collective effort if not you're going to lose that room my sense is getting to know I've known Pat for a number of years was with the Broncos but Robert as well you look for in those kind of guys my guess would be some there's got to be some humility involved wouldn't there yeah yeah tremendous amount both of those guys are just just're so professional they're so on point great fathers um Great Men um they enjoy life and they love this atmosphere like they don't come to work like T like they're ready man they ready for the challenge of the day yeah and I could throw a curve bow at them just to see how they respond and they don't Flinch I want to talk a little bit about fall camp and obviously we're going to talk about North Dakota State coming up here in a moment as well but we do have to talk about we got to take a break but on the other side I want prom to talk about he's been part he's changed this nil game as we well know but he just made an nil star out of the most unlikely person in the world so I want FR to talk about that it's buff prime time we're coming from the Champions Center we're streaming live on both to Buffs Facebook page and also Buffs TV on YouTube and of course it's going to be on the radio network later on tonight back more with Coach Prime after break this is col football for nearfield e e e e e e e col football is brought To Us by the Hilton on cany are coming to Boulder for game day well you should be stay at the Hilton on can at a pro a PR a proud Hotel partner of the col of Buffalo as we continue here at the Champions center with Coach Prime it's boss Prime Time Thursday night North Dakota State coming to town at a six o'clock kickoff we'll talk about those Buys in here in just a moment uh I mentioned before the break uh and I when I saw it PR I was chuckling like crazy because you and I feel the same way about Miss Peggy yeah but how about you getting her an nil deal man that was it it was just beautiful thank God uh that blenders had vision and understand how important Miss Peggy is to the program and just to life period so she exemplifies what we all desire to be and uh for them being able to come up with something like that was phenomenal man and I'm thankful just to be a part of that oh she is something I mean she is amazing the other thing I want you to talk about you did something you know Elevations Credit Union has been a great partner with here at the University of Colorado for a long time you did something with them the other day that's fascinating tell tell folks about yeah um I'm I'm well aware of who's in this locker room and the trials and the tribulations that they have and the different nuances of each young man I have them feel like card sometime to tell me a little more about themselves we have conversations in the cafeteria but to find out you know five to seven of these young men are are fathers a couple of them expecting fathers and uh how do they navigate through life being a father that's not easy it's not even easy for us so imagine what it is to be guy that's 18 to 24 years old and you're fathering a child and you need to be fathers yourself so being able to lend them a hand and get them started off with the stability of their child just imagine man and you're 18 years old but your your your father left you a fund that's up to could grow up to $100,000 you know because these I think the oldest child is 5 years old so it's 13 years worth of consistently putting in their account so you're establishing generational wealth and generational security and that's something that we desire for all these young men to have not just rely on NFL and so this is just part and partial to kind of the broader perspective that that you view yeah you know I I've said before when I get asked about you I said you know I don't think he believes or or looks at this as just being a coach right right this isn't just about the X's nose this is about the Jimmy and Joe's if that's exactly right and I and I love them man but I challenge them to be men first and foremost and I don't want to hear profanity through the hallways or your pants halfway off your butt or you yelling and screaming and hoo-haa and and cafeteria I want men man I want professionalism because that's where they're going to migrate to when all this stuff is over even if they have a pro career soon or later you're going to have to be a man yeah all right football give us your assessment of Camp over the last month Camp has been really good our last several practices have been phenomenal good I'm so proud of these young men they it has been phenomenal I'm talking about challenging one another holding one another accountable uh making sure we do what we need to be doing necessarily with our body with drinking water with getting hydrated and taking care of our bodies as well in the weight room as well well as the training room these guys are on it it's a different mentality a different professionalism that they occupy yeah the being the guys a lot of guys have had a year under their Belt have you seen a better understanding of what you're trying to focus on yeah but not only from them from the coaches as well from the staff a better understanding on what we're really trying to attain and who we really are that identity that we want to establish we have the young men in the lock room that can establish it all you talked about this recently it was during a press conference you talked about being in this room and having Zoom calls with yeah you know people around the country that have impressed you yeah it's one thing to hear from us consistently it's been a while now all through Camp so they want to hear from some outside guys I mean the ray lewises the Ed Reeds as well as plethora of other ones we have a pastor speaks to them every week on Zoom just to encourage them just to motivate motivate them just to inspire them but to pick up where we left off like most of the time I don't even tell the the guest about where we are as a team I just say do your thing yeah and it Con the connectivity of how they did their thing and how they accomplished what they've accomplished has been uh unbelievable LS rck also sure you know so they give him a perspective of what a scout is looking for what a GM is looking for he came with that perspective in the locker room as you well know you're in a locker room for decades uh the importance of leadership the importance of unity the importance of you know I I it's it's awesome you got a your two sons are in there so you get kind of get that sense and kind of get the temper that locker room you like what you're seeing I'm saying you know you got leaders of dogs yeah this what you got you got leaders and you got dogs every dog any leader every leader ain't a dog so you got to make sure you categorize them purposely and properly so they fit into the box that they need to be in you don't you can't have a dog that's trying to be a leader but he's out in the streets he's smoking he's drinking now but he's trying to be a leader they not going to follow him yeah so stop that just be the dog that you are if you're a dog at practice you're a dog and be that but leadership that's not you so making sure you place the guys in the necessary categories that they are and we have a plethora of leaders and we got some dogs that they going to hunt when they get opportunity shadur is one of the top quarterbacks in America coach Prime not not Deon de coach Prime how is shadur better do you think during the season uh first of all uh he has Pat he has Pat and he has a consistency of communication a consistency of a pro that's in his ear and telling him these things and it's almost like cheating when now the coordinator as well as I get an opportunity to talk to him until 15 seconds is on the play clock that I mean being able this is what I'm sorry stop in the middle of a thought but this is one of the things that people take for granted with shador he's one of the few quarterbacks I guarantee you in college football that have started every game in high school every game in college right except for one when he was hurt so you know how much how many plays that is they have seen every type of Blitz every it's not like you never see them get surprised by the blitz we get surprised that we may not have picked up the blitz but he's not surprised by this or that he he he doesn't move like that he don't get down like that so for him to um even have a pro in his ear to tell him okay this would could happen they probably going to bring a weak side Blitz on first through third Downs they do that every every opening Series series uh that's what they do but to have that understanding is is phenomenal you you mentioned the communication that you're going to have both on offense and defense right be able to talk to players that or the tablets on the sideline where players can come off and see different what what's going to have the biggest impact the communication the tablets you see after the play so they have impact but not the impact that you because it's it's the afterthought you know and offense may not come to that play come back to that play again unless they disguise it differently but the communication to the player there it's wonderful I like it especially with the 15 seconds unless the team's running Tempo you know but it's going to get to be a problem because okay if a guy's running Tempo and it doesn't go off to 15 seconds does that mean you could talk to the quarterback all the way to the ball snap that's a great question I I've never looked at that's right I want them to answer the question I don't want to ask them before I want them to answer during the game love it hey North Dakota State comes to I think if if you're somebody that doesn't understand college football you look at this game and go okay really that'll be an easy one you you you know what nor theot State means this going be a challenge on Thursday man they they are a a winning um tradition of a school that plays football it's almost like I'm trying to give you an analogy like when you play a high school football game in Texas and you get there and you don't see a track around the field you getting ready to play some football like like if you see a track around the field they're serious but they're not serious no I understand but if you go there and you don't see a track around the field and it's just a football field you better buckle up and North Dakota state is one of those type of schools that they have a tradition of winning they have a commitment to Excellence their detail they're not going to beat themselves we're going to have to beat them they're not going to beat themselves I I have said on a number of interviews I've said they've got a bad habit of going into a power schools stadium and getting a big check in a w on the way out I mean they done that a number of times do your players understand that yes they do yeah yeah we've gone over a multitude of scenarios a multitude of things that uh we want to transpire and per reparing them for everything before the first game as a player compare that to you now as a first game as a coach it's totally different as a player you know you know you got control of it you know you're going to go out there and whoop who's ever in front of you you ain't worried about it you just hope you get the opportunities to show the the crowd what you're capable of doing as a coach is so many different uh nuances and variances of the game that you want to make sure you dot all eyes and cross all teeth and they just run ramp it through your head even during the game you're thinking what it could be first down you're thinking uh we better have 11 out on the punch right like if somebody go hurt do you communicate that to make sure that other guy that backup guy is ready we should have to communicate that if they backup guy goes down we practice this stuff that second guy needs to be already up you you said something at the lunch on Friday uh I said you got a final message for the fans he said last year was about hope this year is about expectations that's right we expect we expect to be good we expect to be uh cut down on all those foolish penalties because of the level of of of young men we have we expect to do things uh consistently not cautiously but just the effort level is through the roof because we have uh a a better roster we have a better pool of young men that that the goal is truly not just the play football but it's to get to the league is this the new the new look you I don't know I don't I don't know like I'm indecisive um on what should I do you going to give me some advice no I like it you know I'm all for the so you saying go with it I'm saying go with it of course I my vote doesn't hold much with yeah but you know you got to see you just saying that because you you're a good dude and you're saying it but see you got to understand I have a plethora of endorsements too like I got to think of everything I can't just go out there uh you know with a fake a gray hair a Gray beard and I to think about all these nuances in my life so when you think about that what would you recommend well there's kind of a Lovey Smith kind of kind of thing going on you can't say that that make me shave that that make me shave that makes me shave right there well I thought I like lovey's look and yeah love is cool but love no no I don't want to look like no Lovey Smith I don't I don't want to do that well you know since you're talking about madon AV cut stuff M they seem to appreciate the clean shaving look you know you you you should be sore because cuz you're on the fence you should be sorry if it were me I'd probably keep it knowing what all the stuff that you do I mean you're in front of the camera but you're a cowboy you're you know you got to think about you know you're not giving us a lot of thought you just throwing out you just threw out threw out two different things well I I'll tell you this my wife's behind the camera over there she a lot of time votes against the facial hair so is that a reason yeah I don't know you'll have to ask her does he look older she likes the go go that's why you wearing a go teeth that's why I'm wearing a go team see that's what it works hey appreciate you man I pray that you're healthy I appreciate that thank you coach Prime of the Buffalo and Thursday night 6 o'clock they've got North Dakota State we're going to continue here on BS Prime Time coach flee Gary harrold is going to join us after a quick break this is Cola football from learfield e e e e e To Us by EC products every Stadium generates some food waste on game days but thanks apart to certified compostable packaging from Boulder based Eco products the dedicated team at Fon field is able to turn a lot of that food and the packaging it comes in into compost instead Eco products proud once again to be the official zero waste partner of the col Buffalo back on Buff Prime Time voice of the bus Mark Johnson our program is brought To Us by afflac once again get help with expenses health insurance doesn't cover boy I needed that here in the recent PS visit aflac.com to learn more assistant coach segment coach flee Gary Harold joining us here for a few minutes hey how are you how was your offseason great you know I have time some time to unwind and and spend some family time with the family and just digress a little bit and get ready for this exciting season you know most people think about you know football it's a game right it's fun it's what we do during the downtime people forget sometimes you guys that are in it full time absolutely that's the job you enjoy it you love it but it is the job it's 12 it's 12 months out the year for the most part you get a chance to uh go out to recruit yeah uh have some spring training winter training summer training you get about maybe four weeks uh for the family to go away and do some things vacation time but it's all part of the territory you like and we love it you know I asked to Prime this I'll ask you the same question you guys get done with with your number one here yes right four and eight game ends it's over you turn your attention I know the way you guys are I mean it goes you you you uh rotate immediately right start looking at the future absolutely what were you thinking about your room and running backs and as soon as that season was over well you got to adapt to today's generation today's time you know what's going on with n a lot of moving Parts you know you never know what's what's going on through a kid's mind and you just want to make sure where you are you're able to adapt and and and create an environment where those kids can have success and of course they're looking for some things in their lives to to better them lives their lives and at the same time we have to make sure we better the program here at CU and uh we had a chance to um coach a lot of great guys you know of course they moved on to some other places and we wish them well but you know it's always intriguing for our recruiting department Co Prime and those guys our coaching staff to get together and bring in new talent that believes in what we're trying to get done and it buys into quickly what we're trying to get done and we have a great great room coach is that one of the more difficult things of modern college football now the fact that you know there was a time as you all know back in the dinosaur days when you and I were younger where you knew you brought the guy in he was going to be here for four and five years that's just the way it was right right now every year you don't know that's right and so okay I like this guy I think he's a heck of a player and then boom he's gone that's that makes it challenging from a coaching standpoint it does you know as long as you understand that you and you get accustomed to that you know this it's not going to change right now anytime soon and as you if you build your culture the way you are uh like coach Prime believes in and you don't change who you are and don't change your standard and anyone you bring in and quickly you get them adapted to and it's all about the recruiting part taking your time and really really getting on the young men to make sure they able to fit your culture then everything works itself out I mean it's just the way it is right now these kids for the most part want things instantly a lot of them don't want to sit around and wait for the development part of it but you still have to develop kids and you have a balance of transfer portal high school kids and you just got to find that right mixture for your program they just said something that's interesting to me you said they don't want to think about or deal with the development aspect of it that makes it hard to coach I would think it does it does you know with social media they they see what's going on at other places uh they talk to their friends and a lot of their friends that have success early and you know it's it's hard for them to leave high school and be that guy and then come to Collegiate level and and and be in the mix of a lot of great guys and understand how they have to fit in and it's a part of the process a lot of them don't understand the process and they don't want to buy into it uh so you try to make it intriguing for them to make them understand this how things work you know it's okay to sit for that first year to learn uh but if you're able to come in and contribute right away that's fine also but everyone is not able to yeah U but it just you know you just got to make sure you find that right young man and try to preach it to him and it make it fit them yeah there used to be that great Old Line the best thing about a freshman is to become sophomores right and now they come in and want to want to be the guy right away how's how's this Camp felt different than year one for you guys um I think that we was able to come here year one and and and get an understanding of the Laya land and see how things work and see how the parts come together and I think we did some great things early uh of course we didn't finish the way we wanted to finish but we was able to build on that uh part of the last part of the season see what we did not do correctly and see how things went with the kids mentally and just bringing kids once again to understand what we're trying to get accomplished and try to fit the schedule what we're trying to do as a whole and I think kpr did a great job as far as keeping the standard of where it is but understand some of the things that we were missing to make sure all the detailed things that we do not Overlook those things I think Camp has been about that about the details in just right after your segment here we're going to talk to Allan Hayden the transfer Ohio State tell me about him Mr running back uh great kid one thing I noticed about D he hates being wrong and and that's that's the most important part about him as a young man coming from a power five Ohio State U not sure how things went for him as far as getting opportunities but we're glad to have him here because he's a tough Runner he's a great learner he knows the game of football but he do not like making mistakes that makes my job uh very he kisss me on my feet to make sure that he knows all his assignments and when he's on the field he sees it right away he comes off the field and we're able to have a dialogue from the player uh to make sure so the next time he goes on the field he sees it he's able to get it right he don't make no mistakes he was a very highly regarded running back coming out of high school he was from Memphis Tennessee and played a very good program there the raw material is quite impressive isn't it I mean when when I see him I go well he looks like you're supposed to look does he you know he does along with him along with Isaiah August AUST ofi he looks the the part also yeah and then we have true true good-looking high school kids with mic you know the way they look I think the strength conditioning part of the great job as far as building their bodies you know those two transfer kids came in looking the way they did but they added to the way they look and then also um you know with Charlie just that just that guy that that uh that safety vow is going to do everything right the way he coach to do Charlie offred doll is a a fascinating guy I've seen a few of those over the years he's one of those guys that will not be denied isn't he I mean him is a walk on yes and and just continues to chip away to the point where you guys can't can't ignore him you can't you know it's not like um last year he would always bother not bother me but always on me about you know cuz he was a scout team player he a coach I want to you know cannot come down with the U you know with the other guys and so you know and and and we gave him some some time but we had to make sure that we have someone on that end of the field that would give the defense a great look and that was just him because we had some other guys also that was in involved in the game plan and and and to your to your to your statement and to his credit you know he always stayed around to to make sure that he was available for that time that opportunity and it's this his opportunity it's welld deserved he well earned he's he's a great Runner he's a he he sees the game he's just a great person he's he's easy to coach you know he's like an extension of myself you you mentioned Michael Welch The Freshman that comes out of Millville Georgia um you know you've heard the term over the years waterbug kind of players because they're so quick and the way they he's got those abilities doesn't he he got all the traits you know he's prob out of all the backs that I have as far as catching blocking running I mean as a youngster he has that already and we're just building on that and and the game I mean just from the time he came in the spring I think that was the best thing for him from the time he came in the spring to now he just I mean just the progress that he made is very impressive North Dakota State Challenge on Thursday night give give us your thoughts on that defense you're going to face for the Bison um you know that defense is is you know you can't Overlook that defense because they had success that program is is they know how to win they know how to recruit and that defense they stayed together it's like what we talked about earlier you know they had guys that's been playing for years together so the chemistry is there especially when I look at the linebacker core on defense is like they do everything that they their coach to do they're going to be in the gaps they like to bring pressure off the edge uh they don't do anything outside the scheme and they work well together and you see that uh you can tell the coaches don't do anything that they feel like they cannot are not able to have success in and not able to do so they keep it simple but they have a lot of moving Parts they're going to make you think on defense they they bring a lot of pressure uh different pressure so we got to be on our toes to make sure we have the proper non-verbal communication for us o line and dline o o line and running back to make sure that we have our right fits for us the dline and lock and the linebackers to get should do a time to throw the football to make sure we don't have no Free Runners to make sure that we're on the right guys and have no misassignments yeah it is going to be a challenge on Thursday night great appreciate it good luck on Thursday thank you apprciate it coach flee coach Harold here for the Buffalo she'll take on North Dakota State 6 o00 at fulson field we'll hit the air on the radio network beginning at 4 coming up next our player segment the for mention Ohio State transfer D Hayden's going to join us next this is col football from their field e e e e e e e F see use on a mission to find out what coloradans love about Colorado so if you're a Coloradoan do what only a Coloradoan can that that's tell us what you love about Colorado at lovec colorado.com back on the bu Stampede I beg you part of the buff Prime Time show bubble stamped will start at 4:00 on Thursday 6 o' Buffs and the North Dakota State Bison time for a player segment uh osu's transfer Ohio State transferred D Hayden joining us welcome he sir thank you for having me yeah tell us about your decision to come to Colorado so you're at Ohio State for two years and now you're here what what was part of that decision I mean why not uh everything coach Prime stands for and um he's a winner so he's going to ins still winning wherever he goes you know they want won one game the year before and then we won four as soon as he gets here and I feel like it's going to be a way better year than it was last year because the roster is really really good and I feel like we can compete with anyone you know Prime has got a way of drawing attention as you well know right so so you're you're one of the best people to answer this you're because you're halfway across the country last season was there kind of a Fascination for players around the country kind of watching Colorado to see what he was doing here oh yeah for sure I feel like everybody was tuned in watching Colorado because because coach was at a HBCU previously then he comes into a power five conference so yeah everybody was tuned in for sure tell us about your background you're you're a Memphis guy yes sir you were highly regarded coming out of high school tell tell us about your family big family small family uh big family so we're a family of five uh I have a older brother a younger brother so I'm the middle child uh older brother played football in college at Arkansas and Illinois okay then my dad played at Tennessee for four years then played in NFL for 5 years so i' I'd say we have football family for sure there's no doubt was there yeah was there any question coming up you were you had to be a football player I would think in your family right actually my Dad tried to pursue me and my older brother to you know go the basketball route but really but for some reason you know just we just fell in love with the game of football well your dad probably knew because you played the NFL you men for a number of years it can be kind of a tough game yes sir for sure for sure were you much of a basketball player uh not not really that that more my older brother I I knew I was always better at football all right no doubt about it and you got a little brother you said playing high school ball right now right middle school he's oh he's in Middle School yes sir that young yeah he's young yeah tell us about you as a running back how how would D Hayden describe D Hayden as a running back I feel like I'm a north and south Runner you know uh don't try to like waste movements try to get downhill you know uh finish off runs finish finish Defenders I always try to finish runs falling forward I could catch the ball out the back field and I could protect the quarterback Boulder Colorado is a little different than Memphis what's been your assessment of being here in Boulder Boulder's a cool town uh you know not used to seeing Mountains for sure so that that's new for me but it's beautiful out here and I like the vibe out here it's different of course from where I'm from but it's cool how about the training camp so far the last month how would you assess what you've seen offensively from this football team uh very explosive offense uh I feel like we're going to score a lot of points this year uh love love what I'm seeing on the offensive end for sure shador is become well you know he's a household name across the country one of the best quarterbacks in America uh take us into a huddle with shadur Sanders what what's that like or being around shadur in the locker room uh shadur is a great guy you know great teammate great leader uh he wants the best out of his guys and you know he's going to put guys in the best position to succeed um so he he's the quarterback you will want on your team for sure this program draws attention as I mentioned you comfortable with that I mean because it seems like I don't care what you turn on D I mean it could be ESPN or something online and there's something going on about the colado buffal very comfortable you know at the end of the day we try to like block out all the negative attention that the media tries to um paint of us in our program we know what's real we know what's fake um we just try to focus on the football piece and going out there on the field and giving our best and try to win that's all we're focused on what would you he's going to with Prim Wason a while ago we talked about kind of his focus on you guys beyond the field right he talks to you about being men and and what that means and fathers and husbands and all that what's the number one thing you picked up do you think or or has struck you being here with coach Brian you know I feel like every coach is every coach Across America tries to like preach you know they're trying to make their players better men but I feel like coach actually does that like I know you probably seen the thing where he helped people with kids on our team like I don't see any other coach doing that so I I feel like he whatever whatever he says like to you in the recruiting process is real all right game number one just around the corner you excited yes sir very excited get to run behind Ralphie the first time yes sir can't wait be good stuff can't wait to see this young man of the field he is going to be a star for the Buffalo D good luck on Thursday night yes sir thank you so much D Hayden he's out of Memphis a transfer from Ohio State as the Buffs will take on the North Dakota State Bison on Thursday night again we're going to hit the air at 4:00 with the bubble stmp pregame show and Coach Gary Barnett and I have the broadcast getting under way at 6 p.m. it's a wrap up week number one of bus prime time thanks for joining us on voice of the bus Mark Johnson and this is col football from mfield
