Mark Andrews: 'You Have to Look Back to Go Forward' | Baltimore Ravens

um I'm feeling really good feeling really good um you know I'm excited uh my body feels good and um I can't wait for this first game in the season weeks ago involved in that car accident just how scary was was that the whole accident um you know it's it's extremely scary you know it was definitely a serious thing and um you know it kind of for me it puts things in perspective of um you know tell the people that you're around that you love that you love them and um you know wear your seat belt you never know what's going to happen on the road you never know um you know what things might be thrown at you what things might come at you and um I'm very blessed and fortunate um you know to one have God on my side and um to be wearing my seat belt and um yeah it was a scary moment put things in perspective but I'm feeling good I'm excited about the season effects um as much as you want to share what kind of effects were you feeling like after that kept you off the field and I mean you must have been shaking up I mean what was kind of bothering you if you could share no yeah you know like I said there's I mean there's still stuff going on with like insurance and and stuff like that but um you know for me um I'm moving forward and um like I said I feel really good I'm excited um I'm excited for this game it's a big game the guys have been working hard and U my body feels great and um you know for me I'm I'm moving forward and um yeah you have something chicks that much is it good to kind of have something in front of you in the start of this season and just feel like okay like put my head down go back to business or yeah you know I've always kind of had that mindset of being resilient moving forward and um you can't take things for granted and um I think for me that definitely you know you know showed me that and um yeah you know just moving forward you know you know having a big picture in mind and and that's a team that's winning games and um trying to be the best player and best teammate that I can be for this team moving forward from a mental standpoint to kind of be like all right I'm P this you know when you have something that serious happen yeah um you know I think at first it's it's a pretty big shock but um I was in meetings probably about you know an hour later and people were like what are you doing here um but yeah for sure talk about his urgency going into the season you guys came in same time your how would you describe your mindset on that front just the urgency you know um that you have going this year just focused you know I think every Year's focused and every Year's determined but um just the guys that we have this year it's really fun it's a fun group it's a it's a group that um you know we fly around we work together we're always on the same page and um that's been the best thing about it is is the the communication the open communication of um making sure we're all on the same page and U moving towards the same goal and I think this is probably the best year we've had of that and I'm excited to see you know us get tested and we will get tested and um our first test is this Thursday and um yeah I'm excited for that challenge been side by side with Lamar for a while now what have you noticed about him this Summer um he's talked a little bit about being more vocal with different guys expressing himself a little more from someone who knows him well what have you noticed well I think even you guys see it you know it's um you know he's he's the goat in every way you know to me and he he's proven that just about every year and um you know he's always finding a way to elevate himself in his game and um just a complete package of um you know taking control of this offense you know telling telling everybody what he wants to be done you know he's been extremely vocal about that which I think has been amazing for for everybody and and that goes back to all of us being on the same page and um you know he's got that down you know really really well right now and um you know guys are bought in so um like I said we're going to be tested this weekend and um I hope it shows got t a strong start last year before the injury how exciting is it to be healthy now and going back again especially starting off against the chiefs of all team that's big you know it's big and you know having the last game being played against them and and not really feeling like myself just yet um body feels healthy you know I've worked really hard this offseason and um had a good camp and you know obviously um it's time to go put the work in for this season and um just take it play byplay Day by Day game by game and um if we do that we're gonna we're going to have a lot of success how do you balance the big goals that you have for the end of the year with not skipping the steps that you need to take to get there and do you ever talk to the younger players about you know you can't take for granted that you're going to be there at the end yeah yeah I think that we have such a great team at this point um and guys that have been here long enough where they can see it you know in our demer how we practice how we car ourselves that um you can't you know look too far forward just being the now being the present and if you do that you know good things are going to happen you know if we if we play you know each day each play how we're supposed to play we're going to get to where we need to be at the end of the year um and and at the end of the day it's just um you know praying to God for health and safety and um yeah looking back at your Years playing with Lamar part of what he makes him so great is his improvisational ability because as a route Runner and a Target how do you prepare for that unpredictability um yeah I think he's got a really good flow of the game and feel of the game and um he makes it easy on us guys you know if you're if you're working to get open you're finding a way you're being creative um you know usually good things that happen when you have a guy like Lamar and um so for us it's just working for him being there for him and um if we do that you know he's going to put us in a good spot match up problems can you and Isa Isa like feel at the same time two tight end sets what kind of matchup problems can you create for opponent sort challenges for them it's going to be tough you know I think we're both very versatile players and um obviously you know likes had an incredible camp and um we're going to be able to do a lot of things together and um you know that's kind of be to be determined to to see how that goes and see how we can work off each other but um there's a lot of um you know it's just a dynamic duo I think you pretty much have winning records against pretty much all the teams one team Kansas City you do not uh is that something that you guys recognize talk about or it does it bother you guys at all that that's one team that you know you guys haven't dominated over these past few years you know I think for us it's the first game of the year you know we're trying to you know work towards a goal and that's to you know be the best team in the NFL and um it starts with this weekend but um you know we we don't look too far too far into this thing you know it's it's our first game um you know it is what it is you know they're incred organization incredible team and um we got to be ready for the fight for this week has involved looking back at that AFC Championship or is it more their preseason footage I mean how how much do you allow last year to kind of creep into the prep you know it's still early on in in the week but there's carryover you know with anything they same guys same players you know and um so for us being able to diagnose that know what's to come and and be able to do our job to to the best of our ability and see what's coming um we're going to do that do you use Year's motivation or are you somebody who says new year new team that's just memory how do you approach it um yeah I think it's a little bit of everything I think you know when you you look back at things um you kind of have to look back to go forward and um you know for me it's also being in the now you know so I'm extremely D driven person you know I've always wanted to win focused all that stuff but um you know knowing your past is always a good thing and um you can use that as fuel how do you think that the kind of stuff that you guys have emphasized before the snap on offense with Lamar specifically can help you in a game like this where you know the Chiefs show a lot of stuff before the snap they're aggressive all that kind of how do you think what you guys did this offseason can help you on Thursday night I think it just gives you know Lamar and monk the tools to diagn diagnose and assess things and uh when you're able to do that and you get get yourself in a good play in a good situation and um move forward from there of the accident correct yeah no it's you know for me like I said it's a um you know I feel good um ready to move forward from from everything that happened and um yeah my body feels
