welcome to Salt Lake city where the mighty Utah student section is ready to turn this place into a cauldron of noise rle Stadium home to the Utah youths today a pair of packwell teams getting set to square off in a game that could have season long implications as we'll see a team looking for its first win the Arizona State sundevils taking on the eighth ranked team in the land the Utah youths for EA sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David Pollock and Jesse PA will put to to WEA to crank us [Applause] up and it'll be a Touchback the ball will come out to the 25 yd line so the Arizona State sundevils offense will have the first possession of the game and this guy is a big time star just an electricity follows him onto the field he's a Workhorse too ree this is a definition of a bcow running back he can carry the load for his offense and put his football team on his back didn't get much on first down it's second and nine gives it to the back on the draw a collision and he stopped at the 27 after picking up one so already they've hit a speed bump on this opening drive it's third and eight from the gun wants to pass all kinds of room to throw that that one in there he goes out of bounds but there is a flag on the field let's see what this one's about defense so the offense accepts the roughing the passer penalty and they get a new set of downs they'll run it they wrestle him down after he picked up sixs inside the 20 and down at the 18 yard pickup on first down leaves him with second and [Applause] four they'll run it it's scattero finally pulled down but not before moving the chains for a first down the sundevils come to the line with a new set of downs from the gun they'll try to impose their running game brought down after a 5yd gain down to the seven operating in the Red Zone here on second down the give to the back smashes through the tackle he pushes it forward all the way to the 2yd line really need to pick up this conversion and avoid having to settle for the field goal they'll try to run for it and he takes it in for the score touchdown Arizona State how about that way to start a game they didn't even attempt to throw they just ran it meticulously down the field and that guy caps off a beautiful start to this game with a [Music] touchdown ready to try the point after [Applause] extra and the extra point is good and it's seven nothing you couldn't ask for better starting field position the drive covers 26 yds and finish to deal with the short touchdown run from the two from inside the 15 here's the return nice job executing all of the assignments that they put a stop to that return at the 22 so the Utah yous offense will get the ball for the first time one way to mitigate the explosive capabilities he has on the outside is be physical with him and this dude will do that he will do that and you don't see a lot of offenses take the top off this D because of this guy roaming around in the middle of the field he is a true centered Fielder so this receiver is going to have to make plays like this just such a great job of getting guys on the ground a lot of people are in position but he makes plays so him versus a dynamic wide receiver on the outside would be a great match up really nice job to squirt his way up to the 31 yd line on Third and short just trying to get enough for the first down and the defense stands up this offensive line and stuffs him right at the line of scrimmage he didn't get it fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way and they'll get him down after the return at the 27 yd line Arizona state has the ball back and the offense making its way onto the field one running back in the back field and he has it squirts across the 30 to the 32 a pick up of five halfway there on first down it's second and five [Applause] they'll go right back to him keeps the legs moving not much he could do there does pick up two to the 34 will they keep it on the ground again here on third down and they did not let him get to that first down line it'll bring up a call here looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out and the sundevils will line up to pun it away first boot of the day is on its way he was called on three times in that loss last week fair catch called for and made first down here for the [Applause] offense out of the shoot quick toss to the right and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up up on that play Big play in the passing game there and I like the receiver gearing down in the zone did a nice job finding the soft spot on defense between the Defenders giving the quarterback an easy target to throw to to complete that [Applause] throw that's quite a start to a drive and now they'll snap it from Midfield from the shotgun the hand off to the back and this one will be stopped for No Gain got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 looking to throw it's ryy just a short pass to the tight end how about this backer in pass coverage and bringing the big hit stick with him too up third looking to throw pressure coming Chun it away just as he was hit and how about this they're going to send the kicker out there to try to put a thunderfoot into one no good after that Miss still a seven-point game guys that the score Arizona St 7 Utah Z Arizona state is going back on offense and they come out looking for a spark last time David it was one two three kick the last drive that three and out sometimes that puts your defense in a bad spot and you got to get a drive together here so you don't wear the defense out I just think David too predictable that last Drive they got to do something here to get this defense on their heels man this guy's a playmaker and he does not need a lot of space really nice job that time letting the pass rush get up field so when he got the football there was just green grass out ahead of him and he made the defense B and when I got a guy like that man I just got to find ways to get him past the D line right and then the draw play is a good way to do it let them run themselves up the field then you can see he's got some serious speed a lot of speed in space is always a good recipe for offense that penalty moves the ball back 10 yards will replay the down second down coming up the give to the running back from the shotgun and look this guy has some serious moves and he tried all of them and still didn't get loose they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one and with this place rocking the crowd forces a false start so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty here here on third down he's looking downfield to throw trying to make magic with his feet and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down the sundevils decide to pun it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away and that punt will Sail Out of Bounds let's see where the official spot this should be the last play of the quarter coming out on first down with the play fate he rifles one deep to the left it's complete a huge pickup oh look out there he goes touchdown Utah and once he found daylight it was ktie Bar the Door baby and man what a game-changing tight play the offense throwing the football deep in their own end and they're probably thinking to themselves hey let's just get some more space let's try to get a first down and give ourselves room to work with what an IND individual effort by the receiver after he had the ball in his hand taking it all the way Coast to Coast on that touchdown they'll try to attack one more on their score splits those uprights right in half good it's been punch counter punch throughout the early part of this game as we take a look at the first quarter steps they fought to a stand still in the first let's see who gets the edge early in the second all tied up and just about set to kick it away from inside the 10 here he comes he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 Arizona state has the ball back and the offense making it way onto the field they hope to be able to cash in on this drive David after having to punt it last time yeah and I think this offense needs a started with the first play you need to be successful and productive on that first play and it gets you in less predictable situations no doubt too don't you just feel like there's a little bit more sense of urgency on this drive it just feels like they've got to be able to put some points up on the board and maybe they want to try somewhere else because there is nothing doing in the middle of this defense quickly complete and the catch was one thing and the Run even better a big pick up on that one and the sundevils will have it first and 10 the On The Run it's scabo nice move to keep running he finally goes out of bounds but you better check that laundry on the field we'll repeat the previous down but this time the offense has 10 more yards it has to cover from the gun they'll try to impose their will showed off just about every move in the book except the forward move stopped for a short game they're going to test the right side with this one fighting off the [Applause] defender oh [Applause] holding penalties the ultimate Drive killer we'll see if it cost this offense here they'll line up for a second down play the G to the back shakes off the defender how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions Hees it deep he'll fire back across his body and it's intercepted and a big return after the int sets up the offense for this possession man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out offense set on first [Applause] down quarterback on the keeper nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry a negative play to open the Drive let's see what they've got on second and 14 back to pass it's rising and it'll be incomplete this defense is physical and pass deep they'll try to move the chains on this third and long from the 50 they're bringing heat and he got smacked just as he released the pass it's in complete and the you will bring the punt team onto the field this will be the second time they've had to kick it away punt goes out of bounds and a really nice job as they sticked them deep in their own end they'll mark it around the [Applause] 10 using his legs it's scattero they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one B one on that last one it's second and 11 now now they'll run the draw find some Running Room he'll pick up four out to the 12 third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off from the gun wants to pass lost to defense he wide open and a pick up of better than 30 yards on that completion before the defense brings him down man if I'm a defense I got to find a way to get some more pressure on the quarterback or disrupt their timing and their Rhythm I can't give him these big chunk plays through the air I got to be maybe a little bit more aggressive or do something a little bit different they'll finally drag him down but not before he gets it to the 40 and it's a first down the sundevils want to pick up the tempo that's a first down for the [Applause] offense runs through the tackle and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one after a good pick up on the run it's second down give to the running back just a solid stop by this sophomore they're facing a third down it's a draw smashes through offenses gain momentum with third down conversions like that they've got it at the 25 line gets set first down right back to the well he sto him right on the edge of the Red Zone a pick up of five to the 20 looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out halfway there on first down it's second and five one back in the back field and they'll give it to it dropped after a pickup of four down to the to the 16 they've been really good moving the chains on third down now one yd away from another first down in this drive can't get him to the ground and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this no game land it's fourth down and they'll try the field [Applause] goal field goal is good and with that field goal they now have the lead and he knocks another one through and how about this kicker good way to start off your season right like what do you have at the spot sometimes you don't know can he make those kicks starting off hasn't missed one yet been very dependable for this [Music] squad so after the last Drive ended with a field goal the kickoff team out there to send it away on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the Utah offense returns ready to go back on the attack to the ground with the back and they picked up nine on first down it'll bring up second and short the clock has reached the two minute Mark and they have a chance to at least cut into this lead before the break looking downfield it's rising got a man he steps out of bounds but he's got enough for a first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs looking to move it through the air right down the middle complete downfield and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chains is another for the off [Applause] he wants to throw caught over the middle it's keii there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer let's see what they've got on second down he's looking to throw fires to the big fella brought to the ground but not before getting it up for the first down the for a nice play on first down got him downfield ripping off a good chunk inside the 25 and they're set up with a first down he's going to pass grabs it in the middle and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain and the youth have pushed it inside the 20 up second on second down looking again to throw and he really needed to hold on to that one but it was not loose and third down is coming they are controlling the ball ninth play of the drive trying to move the sticks on third down through the air grab near the marker it's Alfred he was smelling that end zone but they get him down at the four after from the big pass Play here's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half and that incomplete pass caused by the big hit on first down second down coming they'll give it another shot on second and goal from the four motion trying to get the defense to show its hand he's got it that completion has them right on the doorstep they'll mark it at the one the offense calls time out and they won't have any more left this half looking for the touchdown on Third and goal and that one's way too far for everybody they're H for a touchdown going by the boards but they'll try to put up three before going to the locker room splits the uprights right down the middle and the field goal draws us even as we get close to Half Time [Music] after that latest answer tied things up just about set to kick it away again but see what he can get done from inside his own 15 able to find enough room to get it out across the 25 he's brought down at the 26 they'll come out and taking the in that should send us to [Applause] halftime we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connors in our halftime update all right guys a delightful first two quarters today from there in Salt Lake City it's been very evenly played through two quarters both teams have been physical both teams have battled there in the trenches neither has been perfect but they're both right there in this game and it's kind of the Cal before the storm each side sort of licking their wounds right now but expect another fight in a phone booth in this second half and with that let's send it back to the philas at Rice Echo stadium and the sundevils will kick it off to start the second half from inside his own 15 let's see how far he can get and the return man showing great vision to be able to find some space and put his team in much better field position starting this third quarter on the ground a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior after picking up a couple at second and eight looks as if the defense was a little too eager there got into the neutral zone and that'll be a 5yd defense [Applause] defense had them backed up and then they're in the neutral zone and the offense will say thank you very much here's the handoff tackle is made but not until he gets the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs defense a little too jumpy there and they got into the neutral zone too soon neutral zone defense the defender cross the line a little bit too early it's a free five yards for the [Applause] offense he'll pull it on the read and that Ball's on the ground behind the line defense just cradling that fumble and securing it and the defense did everything right against that option play they got to the quarterback they forced him to keep it not only do they create the fumble but they jump on it behind the line of scrimmage that is just perfect option [Applause] defense a first down for the offense they'll come out on this drive and let it rip and the defense is all over the quarterback and down he goes and listen the quarterback drops back and he's going through his progressions we Zone but just couldn't do anything about it this defensive line this pressure getting to the quarterback get them on the ground they'll try to keep that sack from Wrecking this drive here on second and 15 he's looking to throw not able to hook up the air incomplete this is a third and long down looking downfield and he needs a bunch they're trying to get to it going to try to get it himself and he gets it just beyond the line of scrimmage before he gets down the sundevils will try to pin them back with the [Applause] punt running it back it's Stanley everybody stays in their Lan well enough and they stop him at the 31 yd line Utah has a back on the offense coming onto the field the sledding has been tough scores have been at a premium Jesse in every possession seems like it could switch the momentum of the game yeah re for this offense just feels like they just haven't been as physical for this offensive coordinator David he's having to go deep into the Playbook just to try to generate a first down well and the good thing is there's not a ton of game pressure cuz the other side's not scoring either but if you can find that one thing that get that one positive play and then maybe you get those juices going and something can start to build might as well give it to him again running with power it's a nice game but the big theme Here is they just haven't been able to get the Run game going on offense they've been very onedimensional they're just not being physical enough at the point of [Applause] attack he'll do it himself got enough for the first he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see which way that's going to go hold amazing how many times an offensive holding penalty will stall a drive we'll see if the offense can overcome it they'll run it out of the shotgun and they'll stop him just short of the first down just inches away from moving the sticks coming to the line of scrimmage on third down looking to throw for it and this senior quarterback knows he had a chance that time and just put a little too much on it the yous will putt this one away kick it [Applause] away hunt goes out of bounds and a really nice job as they stick them deep in their own end they'll mark it around the 10 they'll leave it with him discards a man and a really nice run and pick up there before the defense avoided disaster and stopped the really big play looking to go up top on first down quarterback needs to make a better throw there incomplete after they couldn't connect it's second and 10 he's looking to throw I don't think that's the way they drew it up incomplete now facing a third and [Applause] long from the gun wants to pass throws to the wide out makes a connection he's brought down but there's a flag on the play let's see if it stands personal foul R defense that was right on the borderline you want to make that quarterback back feel you but the official thought it was a little too much the roughing the passer penalty they'll ride the running back and leave it with him just enough room to gain a couple down to the 34 picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down he's looking to throw working that left side now knock down at the 25 yd line picked up 10 there and gets a first down they'll try the Run man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked [Applause] out after picking up a couple it's second and eight he's looking to throw and that's going to fall to the ground incomplete that was a physical matchup there third down coming from the gun wants to pass unloads to the wide out another incompletion on third down and for the second time tonight they'll Trot out the field goal kicker and the kicker delivers the three to salvage that drive and guys after the field goal now they have the lead how great is it to know that if you can get the ball down somewhere close to the 40 yd line on your opponent's side of the field you're walking away with at least three points because this dude is automatic so after the made field goal they'll kick it away and rely on their defense from inside his own 15 looking for room nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 quarterback touch pass on the Jet Sweep he's out past the 35 and he's to the 48 yd line that would be good enough for a first down I love that play call and I love the timing of the fre snap motion because the quarterback was able to get it to the receiver right behind the offensive line because of the timing he was able to outflank the defense that puts him out in space where he's able to use his speed nice job with the pre- snap motion at time they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 looking to throw it's ryy good timing on the quick out they get him down after he makes the catch it's third down and they have to get it to the 42 to move the sticks from the gun wants to pass quick strike complete he gets it to the 38 yd line and they'll pick up a fresh set of downs for the off leaves it with the back not much working there it'll be second and nine as they get set to snap it just about to reach the end of the quarter right back to the well and he was able to pick his way for just a few yards and that'll wrap up the third quarter as the end of the quarter and Arizona state has the lead let's take a quick look at the national rankings to see how this playoff race is shaping [Applause] up not only is the scoreboard on their side but so too is time as we open the forth he'll put the tight end in motion he'll keep it himself he's got enough pickup personal foul look to pass defense I bet it felt good to hit that quarterback late until you got an earful from the coach and cost your defense 15 off play action on first down finds a tight end and he'll step out of bounds after a very productive play right on target with that last pass now it's second and medium maybe some confusion on the snap count there that's maybe what caused a false start either way offense is penalized the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty from the gun running back gets to give and he finds Some solid space makes a nice game before the defense is able to stop him looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out kick the field goal from here it's a 51 y get a few on third down and life is much [Applause] better he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see what the call [Applause] is this defense happy with how that last play turned out be able to climb the penalty so here we are on fourth down and this field goal kicker is going to face all the pressure in the world he bomed it through a 50 yd field goal showing off that powerful back all field goals are not created equally guys kicks in the fourth quarter to take the lead they just seem to carry so much more weight so give that young man credit for getting out there and knocking that thing through the uprights with all the pressure with all the eyeballs on him he delivered they were able to get a field goal on the board and now they'll kick it away coming out with it it's Stanley he's brought down at the 16 would have been much better off to take the Touchback the Utah offense returns ready to go back on the attack snags it quickly on the left that cter play he get a drive started or help your field position they've got it at their 27 Bunch formation trying to confuse the secondary to the air it's rying makes to grab on the left side ripped off a huge chunk play on that one as he gets the first down before he steps out of bounds and this offense absolutely humming as they come to the line again they'll go to the ground and the defense stops him just short of the first down maybe needed a few more chain lengths to move the sticks man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out they ran it on first down now on second hand off from the shotgun stop is made at the 22 a 10yd pickup and a first down just outside the Red Zone a first he's looking to throw it they've avoided the interception all day but they were lucky to get that one back here late it'll be second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again Jet Sweep to the receiver they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one this is the type of play that could be a pivotal moment tight game third and long coming looking to the big tight end touchdown you and they grab the advantage taking the lead here in the fourth yeah and a nice job in the fourth quarter making plays and a nice job being on the same page QB receiver you could tell he broke with the football he caught it in stride gets into the end zone nice pitch and catch right there nice Chemistry by the QB and wide [Applause] receiver getting set for the point after on for the extra point and the extra point is good and every Point counts it's now a full four point lead in the fourth lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive here's the return from inside is 10 and he's able to KCK his way through the traffic nicely for a good return on that one before he's brought down quarterback on the keeper breaks the tackle what a good run there he has enough for the first down 12 quarterback by himself in the back field the they'll throw it on first down it's complete to the left and he goes out of bounds after coming up with positive yardage there got some of the work done on first now let's see what they have on second down hand off from the gun Wows through the defense really nice stop there from this senior leader third down and one and this is why they call it a gut check keeps it on the boot leg wide open downfield he's R out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down I know it's something we take for granted guys but the Q did a great job there with the play action fake he really took his time and sold it and that's what froze the linebackers in the second level of the defense to help make that completion a whole lot easier [Applause] first down here with time for maybe one more play until the two-minute [Applause] warning looking to move it through the air he got a hand in there knocked it away incomplete second down here and maybe they've got time to get one more snap off before the two-minute warning that friends is a busted play incomplete it's third down now they ought to be able to get off one more play before the two-minute warning back to the air one more time back open in the middle and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down [Applause] marker on fourth down they'll pass for it throws to the tight end and he'll take this into the end zone but hang on just a second flag down let's see what this is about they'll decline the penalty here and the result of the play stands needs this one to push the lead to a field goal and it's good and he's got the lead up to three late a 70 yd touchdown drive and the scoring play comes on a touchdown pass from 22 yds out he'll bring it back from inside to five ni nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 offense getting set for first down dropping back it's rising unloads it left he's got it and works it through the 40 yd line that'll be a first down after that big Gainer to open things up they'll put it in play from the 40 first he'll come out throwing on first down makes the grab it's Alper makes the grab and he's drag down clock is still running and they have to get everybody lined up on second down he'll let it fly that's caught it's mlan brought down to the ground but he has enough for the first down we've got a Timeout on the field a tight game in the fourth and the Brain Trust will go to work he's got his man he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see which way that's going to go def you just can't hit the Victory formation and the quarterback takes a knee you're going to hear guys after this game say got to work harder got to be more intense you know sometimes the harder you try the worse it gets and it seemed to me that's what happened out there today yeah it just never really got into a rhythm for this team there's no doubt they've got a lot of very talented players on both sides of the ball so David I don't think this is a situation where they need to now freak out and try to reinvent things on either side of the football just being in better Rhythm early and trying to find that in their next game I think would go a long way yeah and it's just finding a couple of those plays what what do I do really really well let's continue to build on that let's take away these negative
