EA CFB Week 1 Sim - USC VS. LSU

welcome everybody and we are fired up for another Sensational college football matchup nobody at home today who can stake their claim in this neutral side Showdown weeks of additional practice and prep for bowl games not only can set the tone for what we're going to see in this game but for what might be in store next season as well and as we'll see the number 25 team in the country the USC Trojans taking on the 13th ranked team in the land the LSU Tigers glad to have you with us for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis David poock and Jesse Palmer with me in the booth guys we are ready to Tee It Up [Applause] [Music] [Applause] kickoff team out there ready to tee it up in this bowl game on the move from inside is five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 so the USC Trojans offense is on the field for the first time today and here's the man they want to get the ball to in this passing game this is the type of receiver David when he's covered he still open I'm still he's still putting that hand up in the air coach I'm still open and more importantly his quarterback knows that they're going to move him all over the field they're going to feature him on offense they're going to make sure he gets a lot of touches whether he's open or whether he's open cuz he's always open really nice pass there you know the expectations at USC every year are Skyhigh not just to win the conference but to be in the national championship discussion but to do that they need this guy right here to play at a high level weekend and week out because this guy has the skills and the tools to take them out pushes ahead for a couple they'll mark it at the 33 well guys bull season is here always fun to get these non-traditional matchups That You Don't See regularly what do you guys remember about playing in a bowl I think you remember all the moments throughout the season and throughout your career and it's the last time that you ever get these group of individuals together you say goodbye to so many people and and it's kind of Bittersweet but always fun Jesse um to do to dance with your boys one last time but another thing too I love the Swag Bags personally I love getting the gifts yeah I mean to me David really it was thinking about the tradition and history of these bowl games I think that's one of the best things about college football we're in an era today where bowl games don't matter as much as they did back when you and I played but it was special to take the field with your guys one more time but playing in games that had so much history quickly out to the tight end they'll get it to the 48 no need to measure it's a first down down well you love to see this on the first drive of the game right third down go back to the Old Faithful the slant pass something you put in on day one install back at Spring practice executed perfectly keep this drive alive and the Trojans are moving quickly down the field pulls and throws out the RPO he stopped just a chain link or two away from the first down and sets them up beautifully here good job reading the defense by the quarterback on that RPO Fe he waited to see how the defense was going to play the Run he saw Defenders bite up close to the line of scrimmage and right away he knew he had the slant throw right in behind him and he's stuffed by that big defensive tackle up front [Applause] trying to move the sticks on third down they'll try to pick it up on the ground fights off a Defender and he found plenty of Running Room on that one before the defense was finally able to get him down this running back loves running into the teeth of the defense in between the tackles he keeps a low pad level and he's got some speed the Trojans will line it up on first and 10 might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple there the one thing you can say about this defense they pursue the football the first guy might miss the second guy might miss but there's going to be more and more hats flying to the ball carryer you saw it on that play getting the tackle for loss the negative play leaves them with second and 12 he'll pull it on the read good solid tackle a really smart pull and run by that quarterback wherever your eyes are supposed to be for you to do the read option put your eyes there if he comes aggressively boom I pull that football I run down the field and make big plays so it's as simple as that I'm not saying it's easy but it's that simple put your eyes where they belong it'll be a run on Third and short got some room ented to the goal line and he'll step into the end zone touchdown Southern cow you love as a head coach to watch your offense take the field and establish a rhythm and consistency the way they did there everything they dialed up was working to Perfection they go 10 plays on the opening drive and cap it up with a touchdown [Music] [Applause] [Music] they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point makes it 7 nothing so a drive there of 85 yds and the finisher came on a terrific 24 yd run to the house almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown here he comes from inside his own five he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 the Tigers offense will try to get something going with their first possession this match up on the outside Jesse a big play a weapon for the offense a shut down corner for the Deep they say big time players make big plays in big games so who gets the best of this match up that's going to determine the game I mean such a fun chess match how much are they on each other during the game the head-to-head matchup that everybody wants to see David given the fact that you are a devoted helmet head I'm not sure that you're aware there are a lot of other festivities around the bowl game did you ever experience any of that of course I'm a helmet head yet a spot on agree with that but here's the thing we did a meate eating contest at the Outback Bowl my senior year which Squad could eat more steak from Outback it was absolutely amazing so I experienced that in all of its probably the toughest call on the play sheet third and long Ball's at the 25 looking to throw it's nus Meyer fires to the big fella and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down it's a really nice job in coverage defensively there because that tight end he wasn't really even open quarterback just still tried to put it on him and and give him an opportunity but great tackle short of the stick setting up fourth down LSU will bring the punt team on the field not going to risk a return here calls for the fair Catch and makes it just around the 30yd line Line This Trojan offense is ready to go back to work there wasn't much need to throw it around on that last drive for the touchdown Jesse they got it done running the ball and David I don't think you have to overthink this thing if they can't stop you running it why would you stop handing it off just keep at it here on this drive well and if I'm the defense I'm making some changes I'm bringing in more big bodies I'm playing more aggressive towards the line of scrimmage I am not going to let them have that kind of drive again and the ball is loose and live in the back field defense coming up with a huge fumble recovery and they were channeling their inner Mike the Tiger don't you think Mike could get a big p in there to swat that thing free the way the Val Bengals do yeah and when you're the secondary and you're flying up great job understanding the guys already kind of slowing down a little bit but where do I put my head I put my head on the football get my hand on the football those guys those DBS LSU really understanding that flying up making the big play they'll run it behind the big guys on the left crosses the 40 gets it down to the 35 before he stopped a gain of six I know it's sexy to throw the football but if you can pound it away and get these kind of gains they will just add up wear the defense down get first downs and ultimately get some points 6yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four wide receiver now comes in motion to the ground with the back they get him down but he does pick up three to the 32 yd line all right well the offense here they're trying to get this run game established they obviously don't break off a long run there but they're just trying to find their footing at this point they really need to convert this third and one to capitalize on that great field position [Applause] got it looking for the first down he couldn't find anywhere to go and now it's fourth down well give the defense credit on that one cuz they knew coming into this one if they were going to try to get this receiver the ball in a variety of ways they were ready for the screen there and they create a negative play they don't seem comfortable with the 50yd field goal attempt so they'll leave the offense out to try to get the first down Ryan to show their strength with the run on fourth down theyy stop him short of the marker and they'll turn it over on Downs they'll leave it with him still on his feet at the 45 and how much Running Room have they been able to find on the ground man are they piling up some gudy rushing stats and I tell you what we can focus on the left side of line of scrimmage cuz that's the that's where the play starts but you don't get big gains when you run out wide unless wide receivers yes wide receivers commit to blocking staying on their guys really good job on the outside by giving the running back space to make the big play they're going to go right back to him on first down they work that running game down to the 34 let's give him three on the carry small gain I know but again the defense knows he's going to run the football he's willing to run the football not just drop back and pass make him on to the Run game you got to do a lot of this got three on first down it's second and seven he'll keep it himself and look this guy has some serious moves and he tried all of them and still didn't get loose well this offense came into the game knowing they wanted to be physical they wanted to establish the line of scrimmage and they're running downhill right at this defense and they're turning out positive yardage early they probably feel good about their field goal chances from the 29 but they'd love to convert this 30 looking for the end zone and it's caught touchdown USC how about that quarterback taking the shot down field and delivering to the wide open receiver I love this quarterback re cuz he's aggressive he wants to take shots he's looking for every opportunity to show off that Cannon and that arm Talent they showed it to all of us right there [Music] [Music] they'll try to attack one more on their score the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and they covered the final 29 yds with that touchdown pass the kickoff unit about to go to work and he takes this from inside the five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 the Bayou Bengals will run the offense out onto the field to say this has been a slow start as a bit of an understatement and they really need to get it going here Jesse that's right the opponent they're firing on all cylinders right out of the gate offensively for this unit they've been slow and struggling they need an explosive play to wake themselves up yeah and it's just the first quarter so it's not the end of the world you've seen slow starts but you got to continue to pick and pick and pick until you find that play or or that scheme that you can use against this defense stacked up after gaining a couple to the 23 you know runs like this often times are like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows and as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into longer runs they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one fires to the middle he's got it to the 43 yd line and a first down for this offense and listen the defense knew coming into this one they were going to Target him early and often he is a weapon and there's no mystery where the quarterback's going to be looking on critical down and distances let's see how they are able to cover him throughout the rest of this game hand off to the single back not much working there it'll be second and nine they're strong and they're strong defensive tackles they're strong there's such big jokers in the Middle where they just lock out those offensive linemen and running backs listen they don't have much of a chance when you got that 300 plus PB guy grabbing you around the shoulder pad you tend to go to the ground pretty quickly they'll throw it to the back on the screen they finally get him stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some range for their running back and LSU starting to get that passing attack ranked up and this is a unit that typically LSU is as good as they are at quarterback we know they're going to be physical we know they got athletes all over the field but when they get really good quarterback play those teams are really [Applause] special and a pickup of eight opens a world of opportunities on second and two you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense eight- yd pickup on first down leaves them with second and short on the ground it's Jackson really nice stop there from this senior [Music] leader as they get set to snap it just about to reach the end of the quarter they'll try to move the chains on the ground there to make the tackle and that's how we'll wrap up this first period as we head to the quarter break it is USC holding the lead really strong performance so far to be able to build a lead here in the first period as we look at the stats now to see if they can answer this early Blitz here in the second quarter finally this offense starting to shake the cobwebs and get things moving it's first and 10 after the pick up of nine it's second and one keep pounding away at this defense and make them play the run if you can get this many a chunk they're going to have to commit more guys to the Box more guys to the run then you open it up for the passing game after the nyard pickup on first down here's second and one just when they're looking run now up top quick completion on the out he steps out of bounds but he's got a first down on the play Precision execution and timing to pick up the first down on the out route I think you're spot on those out routes man it's got to be about timing you got to throw that football before he breaks nice job seeing it short yard situation throwing the ball on the money so the receiver can get up field and get the first down from the Red Zone looking for a space and he's got it touchdown LSU this quarterback really does a nice job seeing the field and reading coverage and when you go empty you spread the defense out it's easier to see what the defense is doing [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] lining up for the Pat and after the extra point they've cut the lead in half down 14-7 they put together an 81 yd drive and they top it off with a 14 yd pass for the touchdown they're lining up to boot it away he'll start the return inside his five and he did a good job bobbing and weaving and finding a little bit of Running Room on that return and guys USC has the ball back and sending the offense onto the field got it in the middle it's Branch good pick up there as he gets the first down and they'll Mark him at the 48 Trojans used to be known for student body R they can still do that but with quarterbacks like this you want to put it up yeah I I think they they hung that up years ago when they started to find you know big strong quarterbacks that can throw the ball all over the yard so I I like the student body right student body left but that's a little old school for me there already with the catch it's Robinson I love offenses and quarterbacks that are willing to take the easy stuff take those easy throws that are guaranteed to get positive yards yeah I'm going to take big shots down the field too but don't forget it's easier to pick up second and five third and five than it is when we start getting those long yardage situations set up for second and short after that completion throws for the tight end oh so close to paying off the tip really had it in his hands but it falls incomplete yeah that was a good play on the ball getting his hand up and getting the tip get the deflection ball bounces up in the air falls to the ground incomplete pass when and up top on second down that leaves him needing a yard here on third down they'll try to run for it putting together a real scoring threat here as they pick up the first down at the 36 that is how it's done on third down at short and no doubt about it an easy hole to get through and clearly get the first down if you really want to simplify football the low man wins that time the offense got the better of the D easily picked that up to the ground he's got it again just enough room to gain a couple down to the 34 I like feeding my guy I like getting my running back touches feeding in the ball so he can break some of those big runs but I'm also okay with these little ones set the tone stay balanced after picking up a couple it's second and eight looking for a gap it's O'Neal stop just inside the 25 will'll mark it at the four pick up of 10 and a first down and the legendary John McCay would be proud of the execution of the running game and picking up the first down yeah the basic principles of the Run game right the easy stuff the boring stuff not fancy not uh not loved everybody likes points and all that other you know stuff that goes with it but you got to get the good running game USC doing a good job ear finds a little bit of room give him a couple down to the 23 and the defense doing a great job committing to the run when you commit to the run like this obviously you can give up some plays in the passing game but you got to stop the run first picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down they'll try the right side defense there to stop him at the 20 let's give him three yards on that carry they've got it in field goal range but they'll try to convert this third and long from the 20 he'll do it himself and they'll bring him down but not before he picks up the first down in an offense if you're going to be successful running the ball and I don't care who it is carrying it you've got to have receivers that are willing to block you got to have guys that are willing to get involved how about the receiver here on a stock block and picking off that safy and the Trojans getting set on First and 10 they've soften them up with the run now to throw it good job to avoid the negative play and just get rid of that thing operating in the Red Zone here on second second down it's complete they go up top to get it down to the 5 yd line as they try to pay off this drive Hey listen on offense just take what the defense gives you quarterback looks out wide he sees the DB way off of the receiver throw him the easy hitch pass you'll take that completion really need to pick up this conversion and avoid having to settle for the field goal free snap Motion in the back field wants to throw on third he's got it they'll get him stopped just short of the end zone but they're in business here with a first down really nice play call there because the defense might have been thinking on Third and short in the Red Zone they're probably going to run the football instead they throw it catch them off guard and now they've got first and goal after another clutch third down conversion it's first and goal they'll try to run it in he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and on that situation on the one yd line the defense brings so many guys Palmer Gets In The Back Field creates the negative play yeah I think we're seeing the overall athleticism of this defense they've got guys flying to the ball can the defense stop them again on second and goal finds his big tight end he gets it in touchdown Trojan defense has to be better on the back end they knew this offense was going to come out and they were going to challenge them they were going to try to push the ball vertically down the field they've now given up two touchdown passes in this game they've got to shore up their play in the back half [Music] lining up to tack one more onto that lead and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further that is what they mean when they say ball control a 14pl touchdown drive and they cap the drive with a four- yd touchdown pass fielded In The End Zone it's Jackson I know he thinks he can house every return but sometimes you just have to take a knee as he stopped at the 14 from the gun he leaves it with the back weaves his way ahead and gets five out to the 18 yd line it's going to be important this offensive line is able to get a little bit of push you just got to give this guy an inch a little crease and he can make yards [Music] for LSU right back to the [Music] line the option look now the toss on the move at the 30 and a big play there on the option the pitch was executed perfectly nice job getting outside right those running backs they get on those tracks they run outside now they're in the open field it's so tough those safeties are flying down try to get an angle but you could tell the speed sets him up makes the big play out to the left now on first down from the 43 yd line he leaves it with the back and he'll find enough Running Room to get it just short of Midfield at the 49 I I like it just frustrate the defense get that five to six yards make him honor the Run make him know that you're willing to run the football and run it effectively got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four hand off from the gun still running at the 40 and they explode on that one and they've got it down to the 22 and that's excellent blocking there on the left side of the line they were able to get great push get off the line create a little bit of crease for that running back they just created a wall he had all kinds of room to run D I might I might go back to that one and call that one again it worked so well and the tigers are moving quickly down the field oh and they try to catch him with a pass pulls it in it's Daniels they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground to cover to pick up the first well it's a nice job by the defender there closing the Gap with the wide receiver they're going to complete the hitch pass but he's able to run right up on him get him to the ground for a minimal Game LSU now operating in the Red Zone they'll go to the ground got some room headed to the goal line and he's loose and he'll take it to the house touchdown Tigers now that's the way to bail out the rest of the team start with bad field position put together a drive anyway and very confident you can see the quarterback just had a bit of a Swagger ree he was like look all right we're starting deep in our own end special teams didn't help us out but we can fix that right now fellas and they went out and looked so good on that last Drive [Music] now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they finished it with a beautiful 15yd Run for the score l up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive looking for blockers and The Return Man reaches the end of the line and down he goes this Trojan offense is ready to go back to work these two defenses have had their head spinning here in the first half and now we might even see a little more scoring with this drive it's going back and forth this is like two heavyweights just trading blows David what do this defense got to do to get a stop here I I tell you what man when you're giving up points like this and you've got no momentum you got to find somebody that can make a play to create something and listen if you're if they're scoring anyways let's be aggressive let's Blitz more let's let's make sure we're making them feel discomfort in some way shape or form now on second down the give to the back he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions this defense has kept them backed up now one more stop and they can get off the field on Third and long looking downfield and he needs a bunch all kinds of room to throw that one in there and the tackle was made but not before that completion gets him 30 plus I know it's early in the game but defensively after that play you know you have to tackle the catch when this guy gets the ball in his hands he is so dangerous after the fact so it's okay for him to make catches just got to get him to the ground quickly the Trojans come to the line in the hurry up from the gun the running back tries to hit the hole it's the emmo of this offense and they really put a lot on the offensive line to go out and really try and establish their dominance and their assertiveness and they've done a good job of that early in this game running the football after the run second and medium from the gun running back on the Move nose is ahead to the 30 yd line a pick up of one we've reached the two-minute warning and we'll see if the offense can build on this lead before the break they've worked it down to the 30 this defense Standing Tall trying to force a field goal try dropping back it's Moss the throw to the outside is complete and he's going to be just short of the first down it's going to bring up a decision for this coach here's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half smashes it between the uprights and now the lead is extended the [Music] [Music] [Music] so after putting three on the board the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away on the run from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 LSU will dive into the Playbook here on offense they'll come out on this drive and let it rip he'll pull it down not a lot of time left here in the half let's see if they can cut into this lead and this drive isn't a must score but man you look at the scoreboard you're down two scores Jesse you got a good opportunity create some momentum cut it to a one score game this is an important possession yeah it's important to create that momentum now David to and not wait to get it going here at the start of the third quarter you got one drive here to get a couple of points you've got to start erasing and chipping away at this deficit this could be where the game turns right here caught over the middle it's Thomas and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short game and I love when you understand when I'm supposed to put some RPMs on that football you could tell he's thrown over the middle of the field he knows he's got Defenders there I got to throw this thing in there quick fast in a hurry ni job by the quarterback the hurry up now second down clock ticking dropping back it's nus Meyer he's got the back in the middle and good coverage by the defense just a short game I want to get my running backs the ball in space as much as possible and sometimes it doesn't work in the running game but I can throw it to him I think TR create some space out wide dump him the football let him make some catches and see if I can't get some big plays out shotgun snap on third down takes a shot as he lets it go and that one's incomplete they weren't just trying to move the chain they were trying to move the scoreboard instead it's Fourth Down defense did a great job third and short on the opponent side of the field they're expecting quick throw everybody they dug their heel on the ground they're able to break on the ball and force the incompletion looks as if LSU will line up to punt it away he'll try to really get into this one not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair Catch and guys USC has the ball back and sending the offense onto the field now they're backed up here Jesse wonder how aggressive they're willing to be I think it's going to come down to how much confidence they have in this quarterback and his decision making because you cannot throw an interception at this part of the field with this little time left and I think that's conversations you've had with a young fell on the sideline be like what are you comfortable with right here that we can run maybe stay aggressive but make sure I don't make that mistake after the incompletion it's second down out of the gun they'll run it inside may not be the most memorable play of the day but it's important as he gets them out to the 25 yd [Applause] line we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connors in our halim update all right guys a delightful first two quarters of football there today in Vegas and if you thought that was a quick first half you'd be right on the money an offensive showcase yes but it's been those Dynamic running backs who have set the pace I'm curious to find out if this ground and pound approach is going to continue into the second half or if one of those defenses will actually show some pride and with that let's send it back to the fellas inside Allegiance Stadium we're ready to get it started here in the second half he'll bring it back from inside his SP didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Bayou Bengals will run the offense out onto the field he'll start this third quarter with a run that kind of play will get a drive started or help your field position they've got it at the 27 well you wonder if one of the adjustments they made at halftime trailing in this game was to try and get the ground game establish David they're off to a good start here dang right stay patient you don't have to worry about it you don't have to press just try to get scoring Drives together don't don't abandon the [Applause] Run snagged in the middle it's lacy he's brought down quickly minimal game there still a bit short of the first down it's definitely the wide receiver's job to create space right so whether you're running a go or you're running a hitch like this right here I got to find a way to push off imally or just create a little bit of space to get some positive gu now the play they get to him as he throws fires and picked off that's a bit of a gut punch for the offense because you went in at halftime you made your adjustments you're feeling good about your game plan coming here in the second half and right away you throw an interception to the [Music] [Music] defense this Trojan offense is ready to go back to work from the gun leaves it on the inside with the back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and defense nowadays they don't look at stats of what is the yards per rush they look at how many negative plays they can create cuz why now you look at second down man it just became very predictable for this offense nice job creating the loss on first down looking for a man it's Moss looking down the middle and the ball is intercepted takes it the other way he's at the 10 and with the interception he'll take it all the way back touchdown tiger the DB saw it he thought don't drop it don't drop it then thought don't get caught don't get caught and he didn't the pick six hey these guys can play offense too now look at this I told you I can be a wide receiver coach might split him out at wide receiver next week after making that big play but defense great job making the interception and you're right doing something with it don't just slide down don't be content take that thing all the way back brother lining up to add another and the extra point pulls them to within three [Music] 2421 they're lining up to kick it off after the pick six and that defense will come out feeling it on the move from inside is five and he'll be brought down after a solid effort on that return and guys USC has the ball back and sending the offense onto the field that last pick six after a drive like that David can swing the momentum of a game the defense is still celebrating I mean such a big play I mean they they gave up some yards but did what they're supposed to do now Jesse this offense has to put a drive together yeah they have to recapture some momentum here what they can't do is go three and out and give the ball right back on second down will they go back to the ground game now they'll run it to the right here they stop him close oh maybe gets a yard to the [Applause] [Music] 34 let's see if they keep it on the ground here on third down back to pass it's Moss he looks that one in nicely and he's down at the 41 that's a first down really nice job there by the quarterback understanding that it's Zone coverage on third down you're going to have to find someone working into a soft spot get the ball out of your hands quickly make an accurate throw and pick up the first well done and the Trojans will snap it on First and 10 he's going to pass makes the grab it's Branch put it right on him sweet play good pick up and they'll move the change with the first down really nice pass right there this guy's got a lot to live up to so much pressure when you think about playing quarterback for the Trojans Heisman winners guys like Carson Palmer Matt ler Caleb Williams there's a lot of people watching this guy hoping he can be the next great one at USC when you see throws like that he gives you the hope that maybe you know what he might just be and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one the thing I like about this slot receiver he's really intentional in his route run the quarterback always knows exactly where he's going to be on the field they've got great ch screen let's see what they've got on second down fast motion from the offense here's the [Applause] handoff the Trojans will have a first down those little chunks keep Mo qu on defense it's just putting them in Easy situations chewing up four to six yards at a pop like that put you in a bad situation as defensive coordin what do I call either way priority number one we got to stop the win ball spotted at the 27 it's first and 10 Ed the play fake now to throw just flying through the air like a superhero to make the grab it is plays like that that'll let you pile up some serious passing yards what an effort I I mean the layout to be able to catch the football keep it off the ground nice job by this receiver and that's why this quarterback had a day guys making plays all over the field quarterback on the keeper that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there yeah it's a nice job by this defense understanding listen that QB is a threat and they're going to run all kinds of options and he's going to run the football they were dialed in and got that sucker to the ground going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone looking for a physical attack from the gun and he is just engulfed at the line by this giant defensive tackle well they want to come out and try to get the Run game established but UPF front defensively they made a play they gave up nothing on that one got to find some breathing room if you're going to establish yourself on the ground and there wasn't any that time yeah ree I wonder now if this offense is maybe going to try to get to the perimeter of the field and see if they can use their speed to hurt this defense it's complete to the left good tackle there to stop him short of the first down and now they have to make a call they allowed the completion but this defense was swarming to keep them away from that first down line yeah and you allow completions in those third down situations underneath the sticks and you come up and rally and everybody flies to the football that's great execution by this defense it's good he hits that one right down the middle [Music] [Music] [Music] USC so I to the last Drive ended with a field goal the kickoff team out there to send it away here he comes from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 LSU will dive into the Playbook here on offense from the gun the running back has it he'll be stopped just short of the 20 at the 19 give him one [Music] didn't get much on first down it's second and [Music] nine off the bootleg to buy a little space just a short pass to the tight end and that defense is there to guide him out of bounds after a short game it's a nice job to of the quarterback after the play fake there getting his eyes down the field he had to get that's his tight end quickly knowing he wasn't going to have a lot of space to run with after the catch offense breaks the Huddle on third down back to throw it's nus Meer complete to the left a quick tackle made but he's got plenty for the first down we asked earlier this week who's your favorite receiver and of course he said the open one but we know who he really wants to go to on third down the best one I mean I I think the open one obviously the politically correct answer but you want to find the guy that you got that great chemistry with you know exactly where he's going to be you got that bond in that trust they'll throw it on first down and there was nowhere to go for this quarterback and down he goes it's been a little bit of a seasaw here the last two plays offense gets a chunk play and then the defense gets a sack great job by the defense there turning the page and coming up with the big [Music] one that is the last thing you want on first down as an offensive sack now it's second down gets it out quickly they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down I think really good wide receivers do a good job of making every route kind of look the same you could tell he this looked like a vertical route so if I'm a DB I'm bailing and all of a sudden he sits that hitch down nice job by the wide receiver creating enough separation to create a positive game on Third and long try to convert through the air lets it Fly wide open downfield and a pick up of better than 30 yards on that completion before the defense brings him down what a beautiful throw and catch on this play and I love the job the receiver did tracking the ball in the air nice job of locating the throw and then hauling it in LSU quick notification your PS5 will enter rest mode in 10 minutes due to power saving settings and the quarterback will take a sack back at the 36 that is an example of a Defender just stepping up and making a play just gave a a big completion down the field that's not going to happen again that's not happening on my watch right away that D linan besides to go after the QB and he makes a big [Music] play really need to pick up some yardage this time on second and [Music] [Applause] long leaves it with the running back productive four yd gain there on the ground as he gets down to the [Music] 31 now facing a third and long dropping back it's nus Meer spits it out to the back grabs it in the middle really confident throw and catch there big pickup and they have a first down well look that was wasn't a touchdown that was a massive play for this offense they needed some momentum they needed to find a rhythm in what better way then converting on third down awesome job by the quarterback getting through his progression they've marched to the Red Zone and here they go grabbed in the middle it's lacy he's brought down solid pickup but a little bit short of the first down well not a lot the defense can do on that play they got a curl route they're playing Zone coverage everybody got dropped to their spots corly but there was just way too much velocity on that throw they didn't have a chance to break that one going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down he's looking to throw he's got it on the Run they'll get it down to the 8 yd line on that throw and catch and the defense is backed up against the wall I like the slot receiver because he gives his quarterback a good option working the middle of of the field he's a nice weapon in this offense LSU lining up first and goal used the play fake now to [Applause] throw makes the grab touchdown by you Bengals they looked finished but they wer still fighting him we locked up the field position was bad the Finish was great great way to answer that poor field position poor field position no problem how about it a great job by the offensive coordinator this offense getting in a good Rhythm early even backed up even in a predictable situation great job coming [Music] out on to attempt the try and the extra point puts them on top by one they put it in the end zone with a 12pl scoring drive and they finish things off with an 8- yd toss for the score about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown and he takes this from inside the five he's got great speed they bring him down but not before a really good return sets up this offense solid field position they'll run it out of the shotgun great offenses always stay ahead of a chains that run right there now you're in a good position it's not second and long it's not third and long now the whole playbooks open the defense really has to honor run and pass on the next snap halfway there on first down it's second and five On The Run it's O'Neal really nice stop there from this senior [Applause] leader guys LSU has the lead here three quarters are in the book time becomes a factor both in trying to hold the lead or cut into it as we take a look at the stats not only is the scoreboard on their side but so too is time as we open the fourth the back goes in motion they'll try to get it through the air caught in the back field it's O'Neal makes the grab and it's enough for the first down before he's dragged to the ground great job by the running back here on that third down catch there was no wasted movement as soon as he got the ball in his hands he turned around and he got up field that's what you got to do you got to be decisive on these third down typ plays to move the stats and the Trojans have it with a first and 10 caught in the back field it's branch and they pick up just a few on that completion know often times these slot receivers they're not the biggest guys in the world but they're really good at finding the Open Spaces in the middle of the field and you saw that guy attack the defense in the perfect spot making life easy for his QB running game worked on first down let's see if they go back to it on second down they'll give it to the back not a whole lot of progress made there on the short run man that D tackle is a freak athlete did you see him come out of his stance and beat the offensive lineman getting to the running back catlike quickness they can really use a few yards here on third down because from here it would be a 61 yd attempt back to throw it's m how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion really nice job by the defense playing aggressive understanding it could be a running situation but still playing disciplined enough to play the pass and be successful on that third and short the Trojans will line up to punt it away he ought to be able to use his first punt to pin him deep it'll go out of bounds and we'll see where they mark it it's going to be right around the 35 the Bayou Bengals will run the offense out onto the field the give to the bat they stop him cold maybe gets a yard to the 34 at this point of the game the offense has the lead the offensive coordinator knows they want to keep running the football so he's going back he's looking at his playlist he's saying which runs work the best for me in this game what can I lean on right here to make sure we win this one didn't get much on first down it's second and nine nowhere close on that one as he got drilled trying to deliver the football and now they face third down well this defense felt coming into the game that if he was going to try to throw from the pocket they could get to him and affect his accuracy and they did on that last play they couldn't connect on second down now staring at a third and nine here's a snap ready to cut one loose and that pressure just engulfed him a sack for this defense and a great job by the defense dropping in zone coverage all eyes on the quarterback taking away the options and then finally the pass rush gets home gets him on the [Music] [Music] ground LSU will bring the punt team on the field fre and out they got stuck in Reverse they hope the punt can bail them out waves the arm for the fair Catch and the catch is made close to the 30 yd Line This Trojan offense is ready to go back to work they'll ride the running back and leave it with him he picks up maybe a couple before he stopped right at the 30 yd line picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down looking to pass it's Moss makes the catch and that defense pushing him out of bounds after a short gain yeah and you see running backs in today's football they play a wide receiver basically for you but you got to find a guy that you can throw it to and you know he's going to catch the ball consistently after the short completion do they go for the big one on third down from the gun wants to pass R just big tight end able to work it to the 39 yd line and that'll be a first down well they pick up the first against Zone coverage the biggest key there is the quarterback understanding that a it's Zone but B what kind of zone is it is it one high safety is it two high safeties and then you know instinctively where your best throw where your highest percentage completion is based on what type of Zone coverage it's going to be how about getting the foot down on that throw for the big completion the corner route is a very difficult route to to cover it's difficult because the receiver pushes up the field so it looks like a deep route and then breaks really quickly to the sideline and the Trojans have this offense rolling off the play fake on first down to throw and that pass is intercepted take it the other way he's at the 40 and after the interception return he gets it down to the 32 yd line let's go two interceptions already for this linebacker unbelievable job understanding passing situation how to get in passing Lanes how to get his second pick dude he's going to the sidelines bragging to the DBS I got way more picks than you did LSU will dive into the Playbook here on offense they had to punt it away on their last possession but man what great field position this time I mean this is awesome like last possession didn't go great now you're set up in an opportunity to get some points start thinking about what plays I like Jesse as I cross the F50 there are a lot of offensive coordinators out there David and in this position they like to take a shot right away and try and capitalize on this field position offense gets set for second [Applause] down grab behind the line it's lacy he's loose gets out of bounds after the big play and they'll be set up in business for the first and goal we see another catch by this guy this defense is going to need to do a better job of tackling the catch in coverage I know they want to slap the ball away but if you can't do it and force the incompletion you've got to at least make sure you're able to drag him down to the ground as soon as he catches the ball and this defense has to step forward not only do they have to get a stop they've got to do it quickly to keep that time from running down coming after it and this sophomore able to wreak some havoc and get the sack I think defenses sometimes get frustrated and they want to get Blitz happy and cuz you give up yards in this day and age you're going to give up yards who cares this is the area we got to Bow up nice job on the first down stopping them a couple more Downs here to stay [Music] aggressive defense rolls up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming they'll put the tight end in motion looking for a man it's n Meer he got it that completion will take it inside the four and the offense is threatening there's not a lot more beautiful in football than the playaction and the open tight end because it freezes those linebackers it freezes those safeties cuz they have to come up for a second and play The Run and then the big tight ends big Targets on the back end can catch the football and make big plays on Third and go oh they'll throw it and makes the grab in the end zone touchdown LSU this is like a baseball pitcher that can't miss he is just pounding pounding pounding the strike zone that just gets in the zone right you can't miss you you've seen quarterbacks get like that no matter what they do they're on fire they're hitting the receivers and listen that's also on the defense the defense has to do a better job making him feel uncomfortable changing what they're doing in coverage so he's a little bit confused you can't just let him pick you apart they'll try to add another to their lead and he splits the uprights and pushes the lead to eight here in the fourth a very efficient five play scoring drive and they Capa the drive with a four yd touchdown pass kickoff team lineing up to send this one away bringing it back and The Return Man is stopped and that'll leave it up to the offense on the next drive and now the offense will come onto the field again they go to the ground finds a crease at the 20 and they'll finally catch up to him but not before a big chunk of yardage is picked up I'll tell you the defense is going to have to do a much better job containing these outside run plays they better be able to funnel the football back to the middle of the field because this guy with his speed can kill you like you did on that outside Run play there to the left looking to go up top on first down caught near the sticks it's Branch they make the stop but not before they do their work up top and pick up a first down this is the moment for this offense to put a drive together it doesn't matter what's happened up to the point of this game but you're trailing right now you got to put some points up on the board this is where all 11 guys need to be playing together as one off the play fake on first down and to throw it before he wanted hit hard just as he released it on first down and just couldn't get it to the receiver and finally the defense is able to get some pressure on this quarterback they had been trying all game long different ways to affect him weren't able to get there but on that play because of the pressure it affected his accuracy and that's why the ball Falls incomplete to the air it's Moss working the middle it's complete and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few screen pass just not working there and you figure at this point of the game trailing you're going to have to be more aggressive and take some shots he usually runs screen passes when you think there's going to be a blitz but because the defense has the lead they're just sitting back and playing big zones the line to gain here is the 43 yd line and it's third down catch in the middle it's Robinson nice job to pick up the first down and they'll spot it at the 42 there's a reason third down is called for money now what a great time by the quarterback great job finding his receiver at the end of the game you look at third down percentages is a huge story and it goes a long way in deciding who wins a football game from the shotgun the inside K they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one that linebacker was a heat seeking missile and the heat that he sought was the ball carrier yeah great job great feel linebackers are making all the calls in the defense and understanding when I need to come through that Gap and come through with bad intentions those guys has are usually 245 lbs of heat seeking missile fires left and the pass is incomplete but it might not matter flag is down and it looks as if the defense was roughing up that receiver and the defender just way too handsy on that last play you could see all the contact as the ball was in the air he simply can't do it and the referee's C hand off from the shotgun Powers through the defender and he break and into the end zone touchdown Trojans and they add six more to the board with that trip to the house after that there might be a few extra tackling drills in practice this week listen and when you only got one guy there it makes it really hard to get to the ground you just sworn where are my other guys you got to get one two three more guys to the football and make sure you get them on the ground [Music] [Applause] [Music] now they'll try to tie it up with the twoo late pushes for the goal line he barges his way into the end zone for the two and we are locked up here in the [Music] fourth here comes the kickoff as we are all tied up in the fourth quarter he'll start the return inside is five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 the Bayou Bengals will run the offense out onto the field they'll run it on the counter getting that push a pick up of four out to the the 26 it's just so nice to know you can start off on first down with positive plays positive yards hand the football off set up a good second [Music] down after the productive first down play it's second and six he'll pull it on the read just a solid stop by this sophomore well the QB decided to keep it on that one and listen if you had his athleticism he want to keep it too almost every time they run these types of option plays but he's just going to have to do a good job of understanding when to hand it off when to pitch it and try to keep this defense on their heels and read his keys he's got a lot of talent just got to make sure he's making the right decisions moving forward grabbed over the middle it's Taylor and he surges up to the 36 yd line and they'll move the chain love the way he didn't just run to a spot he found the cushion in the zone and got himself open for the first first down yeah and you're taught to find that space don't run right into a Zone Defender who's sitting there looking at the quarterback and looking at you so much creativity with routes now and of being able to just have subtle moves One Way come back the other way nice job by can't anyone catch him big big gain on that one as he stepped out of bounds with a first down man that is so tough when you play defense you get your eyes on your keys and you got to read them but sometimes they lie to you you can see the little misdirection by this offense fooled the defense created some space the offense took advantage and made a huge play the tigers are rolling down the field looking to throw it's nus Meer he's got his man now he's got it all the way down to the 21 yd line and they are threatening on first down last couple of plays the offense seems to be just one step ahead David yeah and I'm going to have to do something to disrupt the timing the Rhythm I got to do something that they are not expecting because right now they got the run and they got the pass working so this defense they have to find something new to kind of confuse this offense LSU with the first and 10 here you'll keep it himself he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three well they were trying to set up the option but the quarterback had no chance did you see the defensive tackle penetrate what a great first step he shot right through the offense line and got the tfl not many hiccups on this drive but it's second and 13 [Applause] now give to the running back finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down well the offense knew what they needed to get that first down so they dial up the running play and they get just enough to keep the drive alive guys this is the kind of finish we H for tie game offense with a chance to grab the lead in the waning moments with the run on first and goal he'll be brought down at the 5 yd line and this defense is on its heels quick timeout by the defense there trying to make sure everyone has the same call picked up some of what they needed on first down now it's second and goal from the five the Run up the middle trying to find his way to the goal line he pushes his way down to the four as they get closer and closer referee signals timeout it's the defense wanting to make sure that they have everything just right with a big play coming trying to make their way to the promised land on Third and goal they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one the defense going to stop the clock with the timeout they want to make sure they have everybody on the same page so here we are on fourth down and this field goal kicker is going to face all the pressure in the world it's good they take the lead just over a minute to go and now guys the challenge try to stay on top well the offense and special teams did their job right here late in the fourth quarter they put themselves now in position to win this game it all comes down to the defense can they deliver they get the stop they win this game they were able to get a field goal on the board and now they'll kick it away what kind of field position can he help them with on the return and the coverage team gets the returner on the ground and guys USC has the ball back and sending the offense onto the field they're bringing heat got it on the outside it's O'Neal listen running backs are not just running backs anymore you're going to be a wide receiver in today's football a great job sneaking out of the back field getting him the football letting them get some positive yards second down coming up back to pass it's Moss he's got it and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up and that's kind of a lot of today's running game right spit the ball out quick get it to your Playmakers in space get positive yards it's instead of running the ball a couple yards up the middle now you just spit it out wide and a lot of times if you break a few tackles it could be even bigger they'll hurry to the line here to try to get off that third down play throws to the tight end it's caught and they'll do more than move the chains they'll move that thing more than 30 yd down the field before he's finally stopped yeah and he's been thrown it all over the yard and he's now over 300 yd on the day so been a successful day now 300 yard I don't know Palmer 300 nowadays that's like what back in the day for you that would have been 500 I would have won the Heisman maybe it's a big deal today in college football no doubt listen he's in a rhythm right now he's in a Groove we've seen good decision making he's been playing on time and he's been deadly accurate throwing it and guess what this game is far from over he's trying to get them set quickly they have to get the ball into field goal range on second down wants to throw it complete downfield and he gets out of bounds to stop the clock as the offense moves closer trying to pull it out that's something as a defense you got to be prepared for in a two-minute situation like this you know they're going to try to throw the football to the sidelines and get guys out of bounds so you got to have outside leverage or uni zone defense to help out and try to bracket guys on these outbreaking routs going up top on first down that pressure got to him and he just had to Chuck it out of bounds that one fell incomplete but they know they're only one big completion away here from getting that field goal they need so bad they have time to get a first down clock it or use the sideline to stop the clock and put them in position to win this game to the air it's Moss pressure coming and that's just a flat misfire not even close to his receiver man this late in the game it's go time I got to have a score I'm not worried about downs I'm going through my two-minute script we know what's coming we practiced this all week it's second down incomplete pass go to third down we need to go for it on fourth down this offense just has to keep that high energy up and try to run these plays fast on third down he'll try to pick it up through the air tremendous awareness along the sideline n ability to get the foot down for the big pickup and this field goal attempt might be their chance to save themselves and this to tie things up in the final minute timeout is called and the clock is down to 8 and this kicker has had a busy night the field goal unit is out there for the third time and this to tias up in the final minute between the uprights it's good and they tie the game in the final second wow and with that field goal with so little time left here in the game it looks like this thing's going to OT you have to give that young guy so much credit he had the weight of the world on his shoulders and he's able to knock it through he's still got some football left here fell [Music] all tied up and just about set to kick it away here's the return from inside is 10 not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 first down for this offense out of the shotgun they go to the ground nice solid form tackle from this sophomore well guys let's play some more headed to overtime and this just feels right both of these teams going back and forth so of course David this thing needs to get decided in OT let's see who's better short amount of time to do it a couple possessions probably maybe one possession each who's the better team all right guys so here we go in overtime and just to refresh everyone's memory alternating possession starting on the opponent's 25 and it's so nice to be on defense first to to set the tone to understand what you need try to hold them to a field goal the offense knows they can do their job to go out and get a win just two possessions Paul we like you got to be at your best yeah and I love the new rules too because in the third overtime possession it goes to alternating two-point plays back and forth who's got anything left in the tank here in OT pulls it and fires to the left they make the stop right there good pickup it's still short of the first down [Music] LSU looking to take advantage of this Red Zone trip the give to the left side picked up maybe a yard it's down at the 16 [Applause] line is set on third [Applause] down to the ground to try to pick up the first they were all over him nowhere to go as that third down play turned into a [Music] disaster they'll try to strike first first with a field goal in [Applause] overtime it is good and guys after the field goal now they have the lead down by a field goal and a touchdown will'll win it let's see what they've got on first down scanning the field it's Moss fires to the wide out tip ball put it up for abbs and I thought he had it but somehow it slithered through his fingers after the incompletion they're facing a second and 10 from the 25 using his legs it's O'Neal only a couple there and now staring at third and eight def they've got a little work in front of them here on third down if they want to keep this drive alive and try to win it with a touchdown the playaction fake and it's incomplete on third down [Music] so now we'll line up for one of the biggest kicks of this game he needs to make sure those mechanics are pure from the right hash and 40 yds away defense going to call a timeout here and give the kicker a little something to think about and now on fourth down they will put it on the shoulders of the kicker to save them with his foot kick is good the offense has points to show for the drive and the kick is good and guys we have ourselves a tie ball game here in the second overtime they'll snap it on first down power football with the Run he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 they'll try the Run they make the tackle after he gets two down to the [Applause] 25 and the last thing they need is to squander this great field position facing a third and long to the air it's Moss throws to the wide out it's complete gets it inside the five down to the four and it'll be first and [Music] [Applause] goal this thing has been back and forth now first and goal as they try to take the lead in overtime number two he'll do it himself touchdown Southern cow that score gives them the lead here in the second overtime the defense has got to do a better job at taking the most dangerous man that's the guy with the football in his hands force him to do something with it you can't just let him keep the ball and go score [Music] lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point is true and they're on top by [Applause] seven now on first down they need to answer with a touchdown they'll start this drive with a pass and they can't connect but the flag flies and I think this is going to be pass interference defense the defender got a little desperate there grabbed held and the offense will take the penalty they're going to throw it to start the drive he's got it on the Move defense makes a stop but the chains mve and it's first and goal from the [Music] eigh first and goal down a touchdown they have to get it in the end zone looking to throw it's nus me touchdown tigas they got it in and now an extra point away from the tie I think the quarterback showed his head coach a lot on that last touchdown pass the Poise and the confidence and because of that David on this upcoming two-point play you might just put it back into his hands and let him go win it yeah man I need it again right like these rules I got to go for two this is a clutch moment obviously got to come up big do you trust him again you worked on these two-point plays all year long all week long that's what you do you know the rules now you got to go execute and it looks as if they've buzzed down replay wants to have another Peak at that last play so the officials take a closer look and the replay Booth will overturn the call he's going to pass on second down touchdown LSU they got it in the end zone now a decision to make with a point after obviously very hard to complete passes this area of the field nice execution now you're down by one and now you got to make the decision are we going to go for it and try to end the game right here and put this game in our offense's hands what do you think and that's why I love having the ball second because I get the opportunity to do this I knew they scored a touchdown we scored a touchdown now do I want to go for the win or do I want to continue this game on it's so nice to have the ball second looks as if they'll go for two with the subtlety of a Sledgehammer with all these big guys he pulls it here he comes on the naked boot bag and the misfire goes out of the back of the end zone [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music]
