ACC Network Play by Play Voice Roxy Bernstein talks FSU 0-2 Start, Clemson, & Miami QB Cam Ward

and week one are in the books for the ACC now it's time to overreact right I mean it's kind of pretty much what you need to do and joining us to talk to AC football as Roxy burnsy does some of the play byplay and for the network and he joins us now on the right to the guest line how you doing Roxy what's going on man nothing says ACC Network like Sanford and calpol on Saturday right what a staple that is right wow so let's start with Florida State um all that's left for them now is a bowl game right and maybe some pride if they can if they can win out they're they're pretty much out now losing two games get in that ACC Championship and possibly in the playoff well I I think it's a message to everybody maybe don't sue your own conference yeah right because you know Karma can come back to get you and it's not just them I mean Clemson's kind of in the same boat now they played Georgia but they got boat raced by Georgia and I look it's one thing to lose that opening game because Georgia you know go over there and lose to Georgia Tech okay but it just seems that you know Florida State kind of just coasted into that game and thought all right we'll take care of Boston College they got bullied they got pushed around the line of scrimmage for a defense that was supposed to be vaunted in a defense that was supposed to have all these NFL draft picks especially on the defensive line boy they got chewed up by Boston College that was that was an impressive performance on the road in extreme heat and humidity that Boston College went down at Tallahassee and pounded Florida state with you it was interesting how they in that game they talked about a lot of the NFL coaches on Bill O'Brien sideline versus you know Mike norvell's coaching staff whatever talk about out coaching but I I just felt that Boston College just came in literally just punched them in the mouth and I think Florida State just really had a hard time recovering to the physicality of one Boston college and I will say this too Roxy they got out coached completely got out coached by Bill O'Brien and his staff no question and the other thing I think about also now granted okay I'm not trying to make an excuse for Florida State but they did go over to Ireland and play and you wonder about jet lag coming back I know they had a little over a week to get ready for the next game but you wonder if if that played into it a little bit why they were a little slow flat and lethargic to be honest with um but boy it has to be so disappointing there was all these high aspirations Florida state was still so ticked off by what happened last year getting left out of the playoffs and they figured they were in a prime position with the ACC this year and now they're staring up with the rest of the league and they're 0 and2 so they're really in a tough spot right now and they got to do some soul searching pretty quickly but I I thought I'm with you they got out coached they got outplayed and Boston College showed more heart and fight than Florida state did Roxy Bernstein's Our Guest on the right Toyota guest line all right Roxy so here we go Cal Stanford SMU you're calling and we laughed a little bit about it about this coming weekends game with Cal Paulie and Stanford you as a broadcaster have you gotten used to this realignment yet or not kind of I mean it it you know you think you're there mentally but like it's funny I watch like Arizona on Saturday night or I watch ASU I'm like because for years I was so glued in on those you know all those Pack 12 schools watching Utah and Colorado and now it's like well do I pay as much attention to them as I did in the past and look I could move in do some big 12 wherever ESPN sends me that's where I'm going to be doing games but it's just weird having these new programs teams to follow which you you really haven't been following for a long time getting used to Boston College in Florida State and my look my 12 former people there with Mario chrystall coaching and cam War as the quarterback and Damien Martinez at the running back there but it's strange getting used to it and it really hit me that okay this is the reality with last Saturday I'm at Cal and I'm doing UC Davis against Cal that airs on the ACC network with his big ACC Banner behind me I look down at Memorial Stadium at the field I see the ACC not the Pack 12 logo on the field and it's still surreal to me to be honest with you then Roxy you you you hear the the stories out of Clemson with Deo I mean talking about not wanting to get involved nil or the transfer portal a 34-3 thrashing by Georgia um I understand all that but do you think in the meantime that uh not That Matters to aoiz players that a lot of the game is passing by uh and what's going on there at Clemson well basically like the analogy for me is everybody else is using a smartphone yeah and dav's using a foot phone yes because it's a it's it's adapter dive right that's what you have to do this is the day and age in college athletics of transfer portal of nil of these collectives if your student athletes are getting paid now it's all legal and you need to embrace it because if you don't you're going to get left behind and Clemson used to be not that long ago one of the power programs of college football they were playing for national championships and because davo has not embraced it now GE Now Clemson's playing catch up to everybody else you even have schools like Stanford that are tipping into the the nil landscape and even a little bit of the transfer port at least as much as they can but you have to embrace it because it's here it's not going anywhere and if you're not going to get on board with it you're going to be on the outside looking in unfortunately I think that's where Clemson is right now don't you think Roxy this might be one of the more competitive years in the ACC to when you look at it I know that maybe two or three four games in we'll we'll think different but I I I look at you mentioned Miami and I look at Louisville with Tyler Shu being there and other guys cam Ward you got a you got a league full of quarterbacks even the kid at Pittsburgh that uh this could go down the last two weeks of the season and you know it's funny you have to give the edge to Miami right now I think there were a lot of questions about Mario and the program coming in but the way they went to Gainesville and hammered game and the way the rest of the league is looking okay I think Georgia Tech's pretty good let's see if Boston College can keep it up um but you have to say at this point Miami is the class of the AC they're the team to beat but I do believe that there's going to be opportunities for other teams that I don't think anybody's going to run away with it did you like cam Ward and what he did to that Gator defense boy I you had to right yeah and I look I've had my questions about Mario over the years just about look he's always had the talent it's just the qu will they live up to the potential they certainly did it for one week now they're going to have to back it up but cam Ward going there we saw how talented he was at Washington State yeah yeah and the playmaking ability that he has how creative he can be a quarterback with all the unconventional arm angles that he comes at with the way he's able to extend plays but that offense was impressive and you know with Mario they're going to be physical the point of attack at the line of scrimmage but he's got the talent components to go with it right now and boy to go into Gainesville and Destroy Florida like they did that has to open up a lot of eyes I think around college football also opening up a lot of eyes Virginia Tech they had five first place votes by the ACC media they laid an a they could have stole one from the SEC and they couldn't get by vanderbelt yeah and that's I think that's disappointing for Virginia Tech because there were high expectations and look Bandy we know is not necessarily the class of the SEC but you go into SEC you've got an opportunity to win a game on the road you got to take advantage of it and they didn't do it that's what Cal has the opportunity to do this week I know they're almost a two touchdown Underdog to Auburn but I do believe that is a winable game for Cal I thought Cal was really deflating in the first half last week that kind of slept walk through it and got their wakeup call at half time and then the second half they did what they were supposed to do with some question for Cal going in to the Auburn game with Jaden od's Health uh who got banged up did not return but Cal says he's probable for the game on Saturday Cal should have beaten Auburn last year and they missed three field goals had the ball eight times inside the Auburn 30 yard line last season and came away with only 10 points they had a horrible call that went against them that cost them a touchdown uh when it when the officials blew a play dead when after the interception the guy was still in bounds so this is I think a pivotal game for C C's going to be competitive in the ACC this year in a team that can contend because they believe they can this is a game that they have to show well in and potentially win down at Auburn hey Rock got about a minute what's the patience with Mike norval and dju at quarterback he's really struggled these first two games I I think that they are this the it's a little uncomfortable right now all across the board at Florida State because of what happened in week one week one and week zero so they they got to get it together they're G to have some opportunities to do that coming up but I I think they can ease a lot of the critics with some strong performances coming up in the weeks because we've seen dju do it he's a good quarterback and there were plays that were there to be made against Boston College and how many drops did dju have and at some point it's not just on him like the offense was spattering but they had and it's a collective effort you just can't put it all on dju even though we're losing him unfortunately Roxy as always buddy thanks for the time I I can't seem to find a line in the calply Stanford game I'm looking everywhere so uh you know have a good call you're gonna be you're gonna you know you're gonna exceed your word count on Saturday night yeah I know we're G have to empty the bucket and you you get nervous in games like this because this could go potentially ugly but you know stranger things have happened and keep in
