Kendrick Lamar Superbowl announcement reactions: Joe Budden •Nicki Minaj •Birdman and more!

[Music] [Applause] [Music] but how you in New Orleans and don't have don't have Weezy on that thing I I I don't I don't understand it I don't understand it at all when it comes to people that headline the Super Bowl I always think about who has the visibility and can can can be relatable to all demographics that are going to be watching from a business standpoint L Wayne and it just made sense Kendrick Lamar based on what he's done his accolades and and him being on the run that you know he's been on this year I kind of understand it I get it how you going to come to LA and not have Snoop DG but you can't come to New Orleans no matter what you think lne probably he a top five he in my top five a lot of people got him as the goat but Lil Wayne got to be there in some capacity he got to be he got to be oo I feel bad because I know he wanted it too don't really talk to him that much now but I know that would have meant the world to him but I do see like people blaming it like solely on Jay-Z when I don't think that's the truth I think um it's a committee it's a board I feel like it's different people who come into play when decisions like that are H are made um I do think it would have been great for little Wayne to be um you know just because of how much he's done in the game and how much he's meant to new Orleans and you know that would have been a a great opportunity never know if he's going to be included if that was something that was behind the scenes I think it was in interesting that Kendrick got it after the the Drake battle and [ __ ] too I think that's more something that should be talked about you know I think his his relevance is really up from that so that could be something that tip the scale too I and listen I love Kendrick lar I love the popup I think he's one of the top artists of this generation period hate this election in New Orleans you don't get little Wayne you that's what we doing yeah listen you don't get Little Wayne in New Orleans for the Super Boy not just hot boys cash money all the songs Little Wayne's done whether it's Blink 182 there's no reason why Little Wayne should not be performing in Super Bowl it's one person who stopping this I know you know it's not really it's not really a secret little Wayne had a problem with somebody before who's kind of part of the organization running it this is payback who's that who's Little Wayne artist Drake yeah this is this at this age is crazy it's crazy bro bro bro it's ridic like like this some hip hop [ __ ] that you probably don't know what's going on to be totally honest with you so what school you behind the scenes Little Wayne not to be performing in New Orleans for the Super Bowl is egregious and it got to stop it got to stop Mike Bill tell you what's going on later it got to and he was just like you know a lot of these whole pow pals come from Drake you worked on the Beyonce house album and then you didum and did a house album and dropped it right before hers and they ain't like that like I wouldn't like that if I'm done I wouldn't cuz you got to understand we're dealing with the power part of Money Power Respect M that's the part that we have to focus on people with power are going to exert it now like when this much is at at play so yeah I don't think they like that [ __ ] I don't know what's behind it but they ain't like that move that little house album after you worked on my [ __ ] hell no I also got a little bit of tea what's it spill it come on now it's hot tea we're ready I'm sure got you got the straw you put a little more water water down the I mean Cam and them kind of alluded to there being some behind the something behind the scenes at Play Between the parties involved and I don't know if I got the same te as him but I'm hearing that there was an event where something happened backstage that yeah between whom I can't say it I can't say it cuz the tea is too hot but something happened backstage at one of them shows put some milk in it [ __ ] I can't can't that's some Sal put put something different come on you got stupid milk Sal no cuz it's it's the hottest of te's okay it's the hottest you can't cool it down thech there's no way new addition that one you you can't but the but these things are at play like can you say What Not Who but what happened was there argument a disagreement there was something that went on backstage that would affect the decision making and makers of events like this and it just contributes to the reputation that Wayne has for being inconsistent I don't know if he has that I don't know if he has that reputation well I mean we were we just what you just read talking about the fact he didn't show up to any rehearsals the fact that they that's one person's account I don't want to make that broad stroke that's one person that's but the Grammys is a really big deal so the fact that we're talking about the Super Bowl we're talking about big stages and if you have you know even a smallest reputation of being inconsistent where people aren't going to know how you're going to show up if you're going to show up business is very small and at this level it is Tiny yes these mega mega huge corporate events this is a very [ __ ] small circle so if any type of reputation is out there it ain't going to blow well for you right and I want to preface this I want to preface everything I say with pardon me I want to preface everything I say with I'm upset that we announced a black hipop halftime performer and we just muddy the water with who we think should have been or who y'all think should have been the black performers some of y'all out there it's y'all young kids that got platforms now y'all wasn't even alive for the Hundred Years of Kid Rock and guns and roses and the who now I don't think that Jay-Z has the final decision yes he made have his part to play in it in terms of giving his opinion but um maybe according to the association or the board of Association they they might have had okay you know what let's choose between the two let's choose between Kendrick or Little Wayne right so they're going to have their picture there and and make a decision based upon what decision to make that is going to be the greatest marketing strategy okay so if you look at Kendrick Lamar Kendrick Lamar had a good summer with his with his hit um with his record against Drake with the whole Drake uh beef okay little Wayne hasn't really done much in the recent years you know I know he's working on an album but for right now there isn't really much Buzz around his name yes Little Wayne has an incredible body of work and great catalog but he hasn't really put out anything recently so that could have been maybe one of the the reason why they decided not to go with him and then also they're maybe thinking about even like energy wise and and and captivating an audience more um Kendrick if you look at his past performances it was more like you know the culture the Black Power movement the black lives matter movement even something like similar to what Beyonce did back in 2016 where a lot of people were invested in that performance because of you know the police brutality and so on and so forth that was going on uh in those times that is still relevant to this day so they may believe that Kendrick can bring in more views in terms of just like cultural um cultural relevancy and what people want to hear or need to hear now I know little Wayne is from New Orleans and a lot of people would like to see him perform just for that reason which you know would have been a great time for little Wayne to represent his City and represent um Cash Money Young Money and just the artists that he grew up with but it's much more to that you know yes we definitely want to give him his flowers in that moment but there's much more to that you know they don't just care about what we have to say in terms of giving an artist his flowers They're going to as I said go with the best marketing strategy at this moment and what's going to bring them them the views the money and keep their clean cut cookie cutter Type image as an NFL Corporation yes Little Wayne is definitely deserving of his flowers and we definitely do need to give him that but maybe he can get it in some other way of future when he does drop another album they might consider him you never know right but you know in all in all I think that they just made the best decision decision in terms of what is best for the NFL and their corporation and that's it and possibly you never know you know I'm sure like a lot of people just jump to conclusion maybe Jay-Z was vouching for little Wayne you never know what if he said okay you know what get Wayne and the corporation was just like you know and the or the board was just like uh how about Kendrick you know Kendrick is more like uh the the Clean Cut look you know he's more relatable to the masses let's do Kendrick instead maybe he's not too fond of you know Wayne Young Money Nicki Minaj Drake because Nikki and Drake are um little Wayne's artist you know and there has been rumors that Rock Nation is not fond of of uh Nicki Minaj or Drake even right so that could have been a part of Jay-Z's Jay-Z's decision to not take on Little Wayne as a performer just to be Shady okay because we we have heard about Jay-Z being shady to artists in the industry like many of them do right there's no real loyalty when it comes to money and power with these people the more money they can make that's the direction that they're going to go towards would have definitely been a good idea for Wayne to perform being that he's from New Orleans he's a legend his catalog is massive the NFL is going to make the best decision for their brand not our opinion okay so I mean we could talk all you want and we can have an opinion but I mean it's not really going to change the fact that this is a huge scale and maybe they felt that Kendrick was
