Ooa if email is more your thing you want to pretend it's 2002 that's cool with me rjo espn.com or you can leave a comment down below and I will do my very best to get to those all the time now um it is two weeks until kick off for me as I record this video it's possible obviously you're watching this sometime later uh at the moment it is 104 p.m. Central Standard Time on Sunday August the 25th and we're here one day after the cboys preseason finale against the Chargers by the way you can check out my postgame uh discussion and Analysis here on the channel uh but we're here one day later because this is something I'm doing this year uh I do it as a video as an article as a social post day after thoughts which is exactly what it sounds like thoughts after we've had a night to sleep on things after we've had some time to calm down it's been an interesting exercise to do so far just throughout the preseason I think that the calming down portion of uh of the you know kind of purpose of this will will be more apt once we get to the regular season and games that do matter H but that being said we're here for day after thoughts following the preseason finale against the Chargers and what I will say is this is going to be a little bit different than the previous two installments um against the Rams and against the Raiders we kind of looked at the game and players you know specifically just focused on that game but the preseason is over now the training camp you know kind of in a general sense is is effectively over um and so these are kind of thoughts following Saturday's game against the Chargers but also um thoughts as far as everything concerning the Cowboys to this point in time so that being said let's go ahead and get started number one for me uh Duce vaugh needs to not only make the roster but have a legitimate emphasis placed on whatever his role is now I'm always honest with you if you watched my 53 man roster prediction video that I had earlier this past week I say earlier it's like a week ago now um and I'll have another one up before the 53 man roster is assembled Tuesday at 3 p.m. Central Standard time is the deadline we'll have you covered on all things 53 uh throughout blogging the boys this week uh I left Deuce off my roster now sometimes if you've never put one together for fun or whatever um you have to kind of play the game right like you're you're not necessarily putting together a 53 man roster that you want you're you're kind of trying to predict the 503 man roster you're trying to guess and and therefore trying to play the game based off of the tendencies that the Cowboys have and I just haven't bought to this point that the Cowboys would carry du Fawn that was why I left him off um that being said I think we've seen enough now I have him on my 53 man roster which is under construction at the moment it'll be out soon enough like I said it's going to be a lot of content over the next couple of days um and next couple of months welcome to the season everybody but um you can't just carry him that's the thing like you can't just carry him on the roster and feel satisfied he offers something different and I don't mean that in a hyperbolic way like oh my gosh he can change the world but he offers something very different and if you're going to carry him on the roster do it the right way find a way to properly and uniquely utilize duvon that is the goal that is the purpose you have to find a way he offers you a different cut no pun intended then Zeke Elliot then Rico do then whoever the other running back is if you carry another one if it's Malik Davis if it's Royce Freeman then Hunter lipkey obviously not necessarily you know absorbing a bunch of of touches and Carries um you have to find a way to utilize du fine you have to if you're trying to be the best at most dynamic most diverse possible offense than you can be you have to find a tried and true unique way to utilize Duce Fawn those are my two cents the joke I made on the post game that's my deuce therefore I've offered it Duce Fawn number two for me this draft class looks very promising through the preseason and I know that we are we've been hurt is maybe the best way to put this right we've we've put our trust and our faith in a lot of Cowboys draft picks over the years only to be burned um you know a year ago we thought Deuce was going to light things up as a rookie and obviously that didn't happen and some of that isn't Deuce's fault whatever but if if we look at the draft class as it currently stands it's very very possible the Cowboys have a group that couldn't that can be you know filled with legit contributors and look people go back to the dirty dozen in 2005 and you don't have to be that to to be an A+ level draft class I thought and and honestly you don't also have to have dudes that ultimately wind up in the Ring of Honor to be a successful draft class if you get legitimate production from a draft class throughout the course of the rookie contracts that's an A+ for me and I look back on 2016 that's a class that we don't talk about a ton obviously Dak and zek are kind of the you know sort of ceiling of that you know and the face of it but you know Jaylen Smith had that great 2017 season that excuse me that great 2018 season Rico gathers we thought was going to be awesome we thought Darius Jackson was going to be great but Kavon Frasier was a solid player for the Cowboys Anthony Brown right like there were a lot of players you know I thought that were a part of that class that kept it sustaining itself for a very long time and I think a class that we don't talk about at all when it comes to Great Dallas Cowboys draft classes that fits the bill that I'm trying to describe is 2018 Leon Vander they declined the fifth year option but they did ultimately bring him back on on a few deals after that was you know a solid player obviously Conor Williams left after his rookie contract but he was a solid player for the life of his rookie deal same goes for Michael Gallop who was a third round pick that year Dalton Schultz dorrence Armstrong I mean that class Cedric Wilson that class was wonderful for the Dallas cowys if you told me that this year's class wound up being that I would take that and run with it now we obviously have higher expectations and bigger goals for this particular draft class Tyler gon looks like the truth at left tackle obviously marshan Nan's role has has been increased than you know than what we thought it was initially going to be when the team first drafted him because of the Sam Williams injury and so he looks like a much more necessary pick certainly with the benefit of hindsight you know Maris leou who was the second third round pick has kind of flashed in the preseason I think we all kind of identified him as the non running back that or the the running back that should have been but he has turned into a legitimate option at linebacker before him obviously the cowb was took Cooper BBE with the pick they netted in the trade down for Tyler giden I mean if we talking about the first 100 picks the Cowboys made they've got two dudes who are going to start for them next or not next Sunday but two Sundays from now in week one in the opener against the Cleveland Browns that is huge Kaylin Carson a name obviously that has popped so far throughout this process Ryan floro has finally started to kind of come along in his own right I mean this class looks like it has potential to really deliver throughout the course of those rookie contracts which again is the primary goal what I love it if they all signed long-term deals yes but I don't expect the Cowboys obviously to offer long-term deals to anybody ever in the future of the franchise ever again so I can't go down that road quite yet but you get my point and I'm very excited about what we you know have seen so far from this rookie draft class and I'm very excited what they can potentially offer throughout the course of their rookie years because they look not just like promising players but like players who can contribute right now right away and for some of them that is a requirement like Tyler gon like Cooper B potentially like Marsha nean potentially like kayin Carson what would the Don bla new so good job at The cowy Scouting scouting department they deserve all the credit in the world so always keeping one eye on Twitter I've got my other monitor over here that's why I'm always looking over here and uh I'm keeping an eye on Twitter because of Point number three basically and I told you that this was going to be day after thoughts relative to kind of everything in terms of how we've gotten here and this isn't necessarily about the game because we talked about duvon had a great game against the Chargers we talked about the rookie draft class Ryan floro had a great game against the Chargers um this is about kind of the totality of the Dallas cowys to this point in time it is unbelievable we are at this Point without any major extensions signed is what I wrote um it is Sunday August the 25th and there are still no extensions for Dak Prescott cidd lamb Micah Parsons you can feel however you want about Dak Prescott right the point I have made that I have written that I have talked about that I have put on graphics on Instagram whatever is assume with me if you're one of these people who does because if you're somebody who wants deck press got signed you're obviously frustrated right but if you're somebody who's who's ready to move on I'm fine agreed to disagree okay we we have understood that we think different things here if you're somebody who thinks that if they sign him at some point now right just again for assuming here if they sign him you agree that it will cost more than it would have costed if they had been proactive about this right if you're somebody who's ready to move on and I told you if and I came back from the future whatever and or whatever I had the power to travel through time I've got the delorian 88 miles per hour 1.21 gigawatts baby all right if you could have had him for 55 a year and you're GNA have to get him for 60 million a year aren't you feeling like well you know I wish this weren't the case but I would have rather had him at 55 a year as opposed to 60 year right you definitely feel that way right like you want the lowest possible price possible that is undeniable we can all agree on that right as much as we want each of these players and I mean every player for the cowys every player in the NFL I want all players to get the bag always but if we're talking about the best possible thing for the team it is always to pay the fewest amount of dollars possible and the Cowboys have completely and totally done the exact opposite of that and the same goes for cidd lamb right if they had been proactive a year ago a year and a half ago if they had talked to CD in March of 2023 in April of 2023 if they had made him the highest paid receiver in the game at that point in time it's probably and I'm assuming here but it's probably around $30 million a year as opposed to whatever it's ultimately going to wind up being it is Sunday August the 25th the regular season begins two weeks from today and they have not taken care of either of these two players and the truly moronic thing is that they are watching themselves do the same thing at the same time with Micah Parsons we're going to be here in March or April or maybe August of next year with a Micah situation and it's going to going to be a massive number and we're going to be saying if you had just gotten him signed before he entered year four you would have got him for less than you're going to get him for now it is a a pattern of behavior that we see over and over and over and over again with the Cowboys and for those of you who say the deal is going to get done don't worry about it none of us are arguing about the deal getting done what we're arguing is this is the most inefficient way possible to get the deal done we're arguing for the Cowboys to be more forward-thinking more proactive more efficient and not cost themselves because guess what's going to happen when they fall short in the playoffs this year and they get the free agency in the spring they're going to sit there and they're going to tell us in their radio interviews and they're going to say well we can't sign anybody because these guys are taking up all the money in the world we know that's why we told you beyond the fact that that's not actually true but we told you way back when to get this done so this wouldn't be the case as I sit here on Sunday afternoon there were two quotes that came out that I tweeted and wrote about and made some posts about as well this is the first one this was ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Sports Center on Sunday uh right before lunchtime I'm going to read it for you I know it's a lot and so I don't know if you can totally see it um but either way uh this is Jeremy fer once again on Sports Center on Sunday afternoon uh he was asked about Dak Prescott to be very clear that was the question and he took it in the CD lamb situation he said the situation is talks have been ongoing but they're really every couple of days the stage is set for Dallas to place the urgency on CD lamb the wide receiver to get that deal done it's going to cost them well above $30 million per year again imagine if they had gotten him at $30 million per year last spring but whatever CD Lamb's trying to get as close as he can to that Justin Jefferson Market and that $35 million remember remember that line in a moment okay because we have two quotes to get to so CD Lamb's trying to get as close as he can to that Justin Jefferson Market and that $35 million so they're trying to find a sweet spot on all those points I expect lamb to be done first talking about lamb and Prescott obviously they're going to try to get Prescott done before week one as well and double down on both these guys and spend a ton of money it's still unclear whether they can pull this soft Prescott and you talk to people in and around the situation he's well aware of how well he can do in free agency if he were to let this right out play well again put up a huge qbr and then be there in March for 60 a year whatever it's going to cost it's going to cost a lot I don't think both sides want that they want to try to shake this out with a deal but it's going to take a lot of leg work over the next two weeks that's true right it's kind of an intense thing to try to get you know this these like almost $200 million worth of deals done in two weeks which is why I don't know maybe you shouldn't have done it over the course of the last six months or I don't know maybe the course of the last six months and a year we're talking about 18 months worth of incompetence that has been happening here which is just insane to really think about for the most you know valuable professional sports franchise in the world and I don't say that from the perspective of they have all this money I say that from the perspective of they're clearly intelligent enough to do this and they don't apply that same Gusto towards this now we're going to go to a second quote in a moment but I want to uh highlight this for you uh this part right here to get that deal done it's going to cost them well above $30 million per year now well above is a subjective phrase you can take that to me and whatever you want but the next line from Fowler CD Lam's trying to get as close as he can to that Justin Jefferson Market and that $35 million okay that's what we're going to look at right now I don't know why it didn't highlight I was on my other tab it didn't it didn't highlight for you interesting um okay let me take this off the screen that's the first quote so that was uh at 1124 4 a.m. Central Standard Time that was when I tweeted this out now a little while after that as I'm pulling this up NFL Network's Tom pisero spoke about this matter this was at 12:55 p.m. Central Standard Time so an hour and 11 minutes later what is that uh 71 minutes later I guess uh if I can do the proper M let me move this over here we go this is Tom peliso asked specifically about CD lamb uh where is it CD lamb remains a hold out as he has been throughout the course of training camp but I do sense there some optimism in Dallas that this could be that that could be coming to an end soon the sides have communicated a lot over the past 10 days everyone involved knows where the other stands in terms of what it's going to take to get this done this is the next part remember what what Jeremy Fowler reported about trying to get as close as he could to the Justin Jefferson deal and CD Lam is not pushing to be the highest paid receiver if and when this extension gets finalized I would anticipate it comes in right underneath Justin Jefferson so it should not be a super complicated deal to work out having said that the Cowboys historically certainly in recent years have moved slowly on a lot of these types of deals time now is of the essence the regular season begins two weeks from today against the Cleveland Browns you're going to need to get CD lamb out onto the field if he's going to be ready to roll in week one so a critical couple of days here as the Cowboys and CD lamb try to finally reach an accord okay so we have one report that CD lame is doing anything and everything in his power to get as close as he possibly can to the Justin Jefferson deal and then we have another report 71 minutes later that whoa whoa whoa Miss Lippy he's not trying to become the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL slow your role um either way whatever Insider you prefer people like different insiders for whatever reason whatever Insider you prefer whether it's Tom peliso or Jeremy fer or Adam schfer they all have said in their own ways over the last six months actually over the last whatever it's been now like 82 83 days in the post Justin Jefferson Deal World they all have said this should not be complicated this should be simple right especially if you if you believe that it's going to come in somewhere south of Justin Jefferson then what is taking so long we know that deal right what why why like copy paste baby like what is taking so long you have costed yourselves to the point that it is now kind of a serious question not totally but somewhat whether or not he should play in week one whether or not he's going to be able to play in week one obviously he's been training and I don't doubt CD Lam's work ethic in any way shape or form but that this has become the thing that it's become was a 100% preventable thing thing and that is maybe the biggest thought after this game after these months after training camp after oxar after whatever that we are still saying the same things and asking the same questions that we did when the offseason first began back in mid January it's crazy I can't believe it but somehow someway here we are we did something to
