[Music] [Music] welcome germany getting ready to host one of the biggest events in basketball certainly the biggest event right now here in this great city of cologne the place of the kolner dome and of course the laxax arena it is the phoebe eurobasket and what a joy it is uh to welcome all of you here today game day one bosnia herzegovina kicking things off for tipping things off against hungary here in cologne germany in group b otherwise known as the group of deaths it's going to be awfully difficult for teams to move on it doesn't matter what team you are if you look past any opponent in this group here in cologne you are asking for trouble bosnia herzegovina and hungary is certainly capable of putting in great performances they tip things off here followed by slovenia and lithuania well you know that's going to be a tasty one and then of course france taking on the host germany and i just it just makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up just looking at that lineup and this arena is gonna be rocking and rolling and just everything happening right now in europe's premier basketball event hungary taking on bosnia herzegovina i'm jeff taylor joined by mike taylor and mike of course has coached coasted these events in the past coach poland and uh had a lot of success with that national team and mike you know what this uh this whole experience is about it's really exciting isn't it something special teams have worked for a long time to prepare themselves and now it's go time uh really these games have a lot all on the line and everybody's ready to go what must it be like to to to win that trophy to lift that trophy got to be the dream come true and we'll see if anybody can unseat slovenia uh after their great eurobasket 2017. well both of these teams have had some quite a bit of preparation for this game in terms of playing in european qualifiers right before it's uh it's been i think you know a lot a lot of teams are are going to be facing each other again uh in succession so it'll be interesting to see how that one unfolds but hungary may be getting a little bit of a confidence boost by winning at the czech republic yeah hungary is a great team to watch they've been together for a long time they've got a great core great structure and this is the type of team you root for at these events kind of the underdog uh you know coach is done a great job with the team and uh you know we'll see the addition of hunger's big and we'll see what they can put together here tonight against uh this afternoon against a really good bosnia team yeah this boston university team of course flying high after their double overtime triumph over france they bounced back from a defeat at montenegro and what better way to get ready for a big event like this than to beat one of the best teams in the world i mean that kind of raised everybody's awareness that bosnia is here bazi is ready to go obviously nurkic attracts a lot of attention but uh this is a team that we've got a lot of pride in their basketball and uh again a lot of people have the potential to overlook these guys uh certainly when they play at home from their fans right now they are in cologne and ready to kind of build on the momentum that they've been making in the european qualifiers they still have that chance to get to the fifa basketball world cup but right now it's all about the phoebe air basket and living the dream and trying to get to the top of the podium here or to the podium and uh these two coaches these two teams really excited uh to be a part of this tournament field now we're gonna have a pause for the playing of the national anthem [Music] [Music] and now ladies and gentlemen we ask that you please remain standing for the plane of the national anthem of bosnia and herzegovina [Music] [Applause] [Music] always one of the best parts of the game for me mike seeing the national anthems the players singing it the fans it just kind of reminds everybody this is all about playing for your country the extra motivation it's really special moment for everybody representing their country on the basketball court uh really a great part of the fiba game well how about these guys they will be refereeing today mariusziolin from romania igor natroski from north macedonia and evil matteo from czech republic and as these teams warm up we'll soon enough get a look at the starting fives and the rosters what is it that you liked about this hungary team you talked about the veteran corps i love the team structure i love that they they're a battle tested group i'm talking about that roscoe allen aqua stellar coming off the bench carol's quite interesting player always kind of one of the first two guys off the bench really brings the start yeah hungry has been outstanding at times you know they really will need to rely on their teamwork and their team structure in the game today uh to be successful give themselves a chance to win but again it's the type of team that can pull off that upset and and they make you beat them they do not beat themselves that's foreign who is the head coach and he's got experience at this event he coached in 2017 and got him out of the group phase in romania yeah he's done a great job with the core and they're battle tested let's see if they have enough against this really strong bosnian team [Music] and again bosnia herzegovina you know the presence of yusuf nurkic the center is a game changer for them john robertson marilyn hailings the captain john and moussa alexander of course aiden adage [Music] kaminyak was terrific of the qualifiers and again calling it shots i thought he did a great job of getting them to win against france because they led by 18 points and that recent european qualifier they they blew the lead they fell behind by 12. and yet they still came back and won it it's a great sign for a team you know it gives them confidence coming into this next euro basket phase and i think they've got a lot of size and physicality the big thing for them is the advantage in the paint today uh at the five and the fourth spot against the front port of hungary and we'll see if they can use that to their strength today on the floor so coach uh [Music] who uh just returned sadly his mother passed away and he went home to botsworth but he has come back and uh the thoughts are with him and his family and i know that she'd be proud of him without a doubt any personal situations like that are always tough to deal with in moments like this but i'm sure it can be a rallying point for the team uh consecutive pb urban appearances since 1969 so that in and of itself is quite an accomplishment for hungary just to be eating at the big table here and uh they want to make sure that they're around for dessert so that's going to be that's going to be a tough one i think jeff both of these teams this is a really pressure game for to open up the tournament uh i think the the winner will put themselves in a good position moving forward to having a chance uh but you know the loser of this game it really becomes a difficult road with all the tough opponents in this group this winning the opening tip they get hungry in the red and missing with their first shot roverson front back of the rim popped out certainly robertson had a good look to see if boy voda can get on track early hungry in no rush but now they have to rush shotgun winding down vinca and the captain flies in for the rebound did a great job moving without the ball there opening himself up for three outstanding way to start the game for bosnia offensively see the players on the court for hungary we just saw before bosnia herzegovina voivoda is they need him to score don't they that's his game getting into the paint attacking the drop coverage from nurkic that's a really great start for voivoda a key player for their team here's musa now to nurkic and again not the type of assignment you want if you're a coach killer and musa drives in little runner and boy not able to save it well we saw early on that first possession they sent the double down that was really a good thing for for keller to keep him out of foul trouble early in the game hunga came on the first dribble from nurkic rogerson has the basketball i mean i guess from a pace standpoint you think bosnia herzegovina want to play a little bit faster than hungary yeah i would think so at this point is not shy about launching it might not work to his team's advantage here we go hungry and there's a good look and quickly the other way musa that's his game and get to the drop outstanding finish right there getting all the way to the rim in transition musa pushing the ball great offense from their defense right there hunga oh that's his game right there does it drop he gets the rebound well you simply cannot allow those second third chances can you no that's going to be an important point especially if lurking he'll stay in that drop coverage they've got to have blockout coverage on those shots we've seen both boys attack effectively in the painting needing some resistance and here they are breaking and as hunga a twisting shot he's fouled as he goes up good would you suggest that was good rim protection from hungary well i think hungary did an outstanding job right there uh grabbing that defensive rebound and getting out all the way to the rim in transition hunger really runs the floor extremely well [Applause] uh easily the most important player in this hungary team and this is the first free throw in my opinion you know i agree i think that he takes a lot of the pressure off the other players and allows them to play with more comfort uh and he's a guy that can handle that responsibility within the team down low and the ball knocked out of his hands here comes see larvinka crosses midcourt takes [Applause] he has games where he doesn't do too much in terms of scoring but then he does have big games this could be one of them kids gets it down low and buzzing earth could be a fall off the miss ball goes out to roberson for three in and out and used to be a frustrating start for bosnia herzegovina on the offensive end let's give credit to hungary with their physicality in the paint the defending scrappy and the low post keller hacked by lazic uh free throws coming for akush keller [Music] hungary has started this game with a lot of self-confidence really like to look at their team defensively creating some opportunities offensively but again the big point is how they handle that low post coverage uh and defensive rebounding and so far they're off to a scrappy good start keller takes his time misses the first and keller had a tough time during the qualifiers i think his temperament may be called into question though they couldn't stay out of control we'd like him to be on the court for as much as possible today especially for bosnia and herzegovina he's really their one low-cost match-up that can give them some physicality splitting the defense and that's where i think keller doesn't want to be committing fouls out of the perimeter like that tough to see that happen if you're if you're on the hungry bench you know you want him to be out there at those critical moments and if he's on the bench you just wonder what you're going to get coming here from some of the reserves interesting to benedict the favorite of sao paulo favorite son comes in along with hopkins they're naturalized from usa [Music] quick pass through robertson goes off his hands deflected out of bounds [Music] [Music] you know he likes to drive so he hasn't knocked away he gets it back he puts it up and there's hopkins moosa looks at the ref he just runs down the court boy voda pulls up on the break and he's got it guess it's me number nine also a fast start and bosnia [Applause] [Music] well they're letting them play mike early on and bosnia want to talk things over bosnia heard the convenience so let's go down through the huddle and listen in [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] uh you know he's kind of multi-skilled offensively i mean obviously you got to be able to put the ball in the deck and drive but also people have to respect that three-pointer because otherwise he'll go past him as well david is their go-to player uh hanga will attract a lot of attention but vojboda's got to be a main scorer for them great start for hungary and a really good time out there for bosnia let's see if they can organize their offense a little bit better [Music] here comes nurkin and they get it down low and hopkins fouls a little bit so let's see if this stops the rot for bosnia really good action there from bosnia nurkic came across off the screen came out of the low post into a middle pick and roll on the short roll he caught the ball and made a beautiful pass under the rim and first is good sometimes when you're struggling it's good to get to the throw line and get some easy ones over the corner karate download hopkins turns and off the front of the rim [Music] [Applause] no they're not going to count it they're gonna say the foul was before the shotgun [Music] he's not shy about putting up the basketball from deep and there is foul is he goes up from ellicksville who's just checked out [Music] a lot of people say this is a do or die game for these two countries i don't know how you can make that statement so early in the competition but i suppose as underdogs it is crucial for them to get the win and nurkic twists and turns and scores and there's this nurkic going to work on the block imposing his will down there outstanding move on the baseline and right now he is carrying hungry offensively so skilled playing without the ball nice little mid-range finish on the baseline right down the lane [Applause] they're really getting some opportunities off those short roll actions from the bigs and then it goes and is filled fouled by nurkish [Music] [Music] nothing too complicated about that offensively was it no very simple play robertson very good pick and role player checking in the game and alex field gets to the free-throw line [Music] again one of those reliable players for hungary comes in also a perimeter threat and it makes both breathing the hungry keep the scoreboard ticking over and the big question is now how are they going to prevent some of these uh good shots from bosnia herzegovina because they've had some good looks keller dribbles it or excuse me nurkish dribbles it off his foot you get the feeling these two teams are kind of feeling each other out right now definitely trying to get a feel for the tournament you know the first game jitters in the paint the runner well maybe sitting down for a couple of minutes did him some good because already we're seeing eight star quality from honda on that drive beautiful play [Music] now the question is what bosnia's adjustments what they do to stop these guys they've got to again get more defensive stops here as the first quarter continues hunga steps back for three and ellingsfeld gets the rebound gets it back outside to varadi [Applause] benedict karate to the left puts it up from three and it's good he has really improved benedict varadi in this hungary team played a lot of minutes in the basketball champions league the reach and the foul and if that's some killer it might feel golden pearl but if it's keller it's a killer because it's the second time look at that the three-point shot it's running and it's all hands on deck for hungary and it's a good time that varadi comes right out and contributes but [Music] so hopkins has two fouls for hungary [Music] i thought keller had already picked up one but on the official score and he doesn't have [Music] one of the main guys has been knocked away able to get it back he's got to hurry though hello doing a great job putting pressure and then he gets the rebound [Applause] really good defensive stand there for bosnia and now down low he goes and pelilovich little jump hook in the lane and now it's a three-point game feels like one of those games where it's important for hungry to keep their noses in front they fall behind they don't want to play catch-up 100. [Applause] to go in the first quarter and the rebound kamen yas musa pushing it quickly he's slowed by peril [Music] a little bit too hard they crash the boards oh boy how in the world did he come up with that rebound helilovich is feeling terrific and they still scratch for the rebound and there's kamiyas that comes down with it they're getting everything off the glass right now there's the advantage of the size and physicality from the bosnian front court musa misses and again another offensive rebound musa a little bit farther out and again hungary survived that withering assault raises his hand as if to say i need to come out and catch my breath [Applause] [Music] as expected the contest is tight [Music] so wholesale substitutions here aidan adage comes into the game hey miramanovic comes into the game maybe a little less obvious scores on the court for bosnia herzegovina although all of these guys are obviously capable of putting the ball in the basket right now musa is catching his breath as well as nurkic hunga maybe an opportunity for hungary paul stays out [Music] hitting that his final 30 seconds of the opening quarter giggits puts it on the deck loses it here comes boy voda and i think wisely holds up realizing they want to get the last shot [Music] hungry trying to stretch their lead boy voda a high arcing shot and he has brought his game today and almost a steal for hungary right at the end and that is a huge swing right at the end of the first quarter stretches the lead with the long three-pointer takes the clock right down to the end and hungary lead it 23-17 at the end of one [Music] yeah you see those shooting stats really some big threes to start the game from several guys including that last one right there boy voda attacked the switch got into a step back three-point shot and guys people that have watched him play know that's his game he's right in his element in the first half in the first quarter four for four two for two from three and overall three points hungry three and six foot three-point range fostering bosnia herzegovina just one of six from three-point range i think that's just a difference in their game plan you know bosnia is going to try to post up and play in the paint uh attack the rim on those short roll actions that we saw and hungary on the other side has the the perimeter shooting from vojvoda from benqeth from some of the variety some from some of the other players on the team but what a great start for hungary i think it's a little bit of a surprise the the one concern has been the defensive boards they've got to shore up the defensive boards and block out and hold their ground against the physical front court from bosnia well folks download the courtside 1891 app in your trying to pick it up defensively here to start the second quarter hunger has it boy voda dribbles in little runner and again trying to quicken the pace a little bit without a doubt the impact of the ball pick and roll situations with a smaller lineup here hard shows again they'll play differently with the smaller front court as compared to when they have murkridge out there gaggage round up high and that is becoming a problem as you look at the offensive rebounds seven offensive rebounds of their 14 rebounds in all for bosnia herzegovina it's really keeping bosnia in the game right now well great decision by hunga so smooth going through the basket that was a beautiful right hand finish goes in and out really looking to get on track struggled in the european qualifiers didn't see the best of him in that last window hopkins spins turn puts it up and in wow and hungary right now looking formidable here against bosnia and herzegovina i don't think the game could have started any better for hungary they're really playing their game right now and come out with a lot of self-confidence adage outside suleimanovich for three wow and he had a few words for hopkins as he ran past he intelligent basketball right now they attacked the switch beautifully right there went to the high low again really shows the experience playing together and reading the game together outstanding possession there for hunger gage meanwhile that's short but again the ball falls to bosnia herzegovina gigants from a long way out and boy they are not shy about putting up the threes are they you know right now it just seems a little bit better teamwork for good shots on the hungry side than bosnia right now but again the offensive rebounds are keeping them into the competitive game earl steps [Music] sizing up his options rovers and comes back and you know from the very beginning when robertson's attempts kind of looked like he was going in his front back of the rim and came out it's just been a struggle for uh for boston hurt to conveniently to make their threes coming back in for hungary i would like to see bosnia have a little bit better teamwork a little bit better ball movement run some of their offensive sets a little bit more uh together to kind of create some easier shots for each other the short roll action has given them some good looks early in the first quarter let's see if they get back to that uh here in a second oh what a drive from aidan at it's a much more intelligent play perhaps and isn't it interesting that a player who really as i said wasn't at his best in the qualifiers is the guy that might come into the game and give his team a lift well they're looking for that lift right now and he can definitely deliver it that was a really strong one-on-one move against boyvoda strong finish i think in general the bosnia team is playing a lot of one-on-one basketball right now hopefully they can kind of find a little bit better rhythm together as the game progresses completes the three-point play let's see if that sparks this team from the balkans back in as well rabbis going for the steal so it opens up for vinca and allen wasn't quite sure whether he was going to the basket or not hopkins now going to work on lavish fizz turns on the baseline and he's fouled the former georgetown hoya [Music] that was just a really nice move in the post backing him down pivoting away to the baseline taking the contact and still finishing great finish from hopkins great story hopkins he came to europe that's playing kind of in the second division basketball and some pro leagues has gotten better and better every year here is playing on the big stage of the year basket so he completes the three-point play here's robertson for three well he's an obvious candidate to get it going explosive offensive player for sure [Applause] called for the foul there's a lot of physicality defensively from bosnia herzegovina again as bosnia switches these screens the teamwork and recognition and awareness of hungary is very impressive again well coached and you can see the experience reading the game together four-point advantage for hungary allen spins with a running shot a little of his hands it off the rover [Music] but there's the follow another offensive rebound and put back this one by brahmas [Applause] [Music] takes it the other way roberson looks up the floor great defense and now hunger has it look out and that was all because of the hustle from hopkins to come up with the steal now hililovich and again bosnia herzegovina trying to quicken the tempo game loosened up there for a few possessions guys got up and down the floor a little bit hopkins raises the net lazic and silard vinca perhaps feeling a little bit of a mismatch commits the foul hungers went out but he comes back in akos keller comes back in for hopkins how did you like that hopkins three-point attempt a little bit too early yeah i don't think that's uh what they were looking for in that situation i think they'll have some conversations about that shot robertson enabled able to inbound the basketball you see the size advantage of bosnia herzegovina the bounce pass is back in the game and that fouls on keller [Music] i think they gave it to roscoe i don't know what occurs keller is doing well today but he seems to be avoiding fouls but not count he's already got three and nurkic misses the first [Applause] another offensive rebound and keller not able to corral it and it is a problem right now the offensive boards 11 of their 22 rebounds right now for boston and herzegovina coming on the offensive glass six seconds probably should be more here's going to work so strong and powerful in the paint great finish from nurkic at the rim [Applause] vinca puts it on the deck and drives and scores saw some intensity over there on that bosnia hurston convenient bench from coach baker kind of reminded me of bedroom bosnich the coach that they guided her convened it through this phoebe euro basket the ball goes out of bounds [Music] and this is again vinca showing you know their moments their flashes when he can make plays big plays is gavin though again trying to use that advantage down low with turkish here they are and helilovich fouled by boyd so the two areas bosnia's look to establish are the paint and those short roll actions i think the short roll actions have given them actually a little bit more than in the post so far to this point we've seen nurkic establish himself a little bit but those short rolls giving them some great drives to the basket that's his third foul so he goes to the bench that is a big development and golden peril checks in really has to pick up the slack with voivoda out of the game now robertson and again a trip on keller amazingly it's keller's first foul that's incredible i think even he thinks he's got more fouls right the way he's been looking but again it just goes to show he picks up fouls a long way from the basket he's got to be out there guarding nurkic but roberson makes the first we'll see if they adjust their pick and roll coverage at the point of attack there to protect them a little bit i just wonder in the back of my mind if somebody's misunderstood who the foul was on of previous possessions [Music] two-point lead for hungary left for the entire time keller from deep and again early three-point shot [Applause] a little bit going to work on allen jump hook and they've tied the game great patience in the post there from helilovich got to his spot right hand jump hook important basket [Applause] bounce pass keller are you kidding me rolls to the basket and throws it down two-handed great strong play by akash [Music] that was a big time play from akos keller and a great answer right after the bosnia team tied the game [Applause] like that this is basketball city here for the next week in germany and keller boy gives up a potential layup and they end up with a three-pointer from sierra vinca when they make that extra pass hungry very tough beautiful the short roll decision from keller extra pass for the three i mean that's that's hungry basketball right there outstanding teamwork [Applause] nba star one of the big attractions at this phoebe eurobasket vinca from deep good and becca is feeling it today came off the screen with so much confidence right there now he's got 10 points [Music] and allen knocks it out of the hands of nurkic and commits the foul one of those games where hungary just seems to make the big shot right when the bosnia herzegovina are starting to really kind of get to grips with them the question is how long can they keep it up are they able to sustain it uh the the physicality in the post at the five and the four from bosnia the offensive rebounding from bosnia uh it's it's going to be tough they've got to keep making those shots and how long can they do it can he do it for the full 40 minutes that's the big question and the other thing is i mean coach isn't waiting to make a change until halftime is he trying to weather the storm until then and then come and come at them with something completely different yeah let's see what type of adjustments they would make um it definitely is a concern voila with the 3000 first half i think that's uh maybe rolling the ice a little bit keeping them out there and not protect them a little bit more well unfortunately for hungary vinca has been very good today but vinca and boy voda each with 10 points nine points for adam hunga and uh hopkins has done quite well too with five points but where they're really struggling is those defensive boards and those second chance points now ten have been scored by uh bosnia herzegovina although where hungary has really capitalized [Music] doesn't get that one to drop durkish though catches binka and is called for the foul because sportsmanship helps him up what's it looking for and unfortunately hard to say right there i'm sure he's just working the referees as usual could have been that elbow to the head huh yeah i think he got him with the arm maybe more to do with his height i think though has certainly come up big for hungary in this first half now pearl he's been quiet helen's failed and what saw the shot clock winding down had to put the hungarian fans especially those wearing the basketballs on their heads a little bit nervous referees [Music] that's why you said you got down don't you i'm amazed that two key players have three fouls in this first place [Music] oh boy what a tough drive for seylar binka impressive strong physical drive to the rim earlier now a strong physical post up and score he's had a great first half he's leading hungry and scoring 12 points roberson from three again finally at three falls [Music] in the second half and they get maybe a little bit of momentum right at the end hungary though lead it at halftime 46.45 [Music] shooting stats from the first half and the rebound you can see the rebound we've been talking about that all game rebounds the key 24 to 14. [Music] and maybe a mild surprise is venka's leading hungry and scoring but just a mild surprise i think that's that's kind of in the story he's really asserted himself but you see the the main guys also up there at the top scorers as well but here's venka you know you talk about the core and really since the last eurobasket which was now going back to 2017. he has been in that core for hungary maybe this euro basket becomes his coming out party with performances like that how do you evaluate the performance of nurkic in the first half i think nurkic aside from the three fouls you know i think he really did a great job establishing the post i think that he's going to stay in that drop pick and roll coverage which will give hungary some advantages but for nurkish to you know take advantage of his strengths and score inside i think that's a key for bosnia their whole front court has done a great job on the offensive boards establishing post up opportunities at the five and the four so i think you got to be really happy with those aspects of your game if you're bosnia the rebounding but i think at the other other end they've got to do a little bit better defensively um and again let's give hungry credit for playing a team game intelligent game and playing together you know it's funny mike when we talk about the three-point shooting from bosnia-herzegovina and not really the shot's not falling but both teams are five and 14. it just feels like hungary have made fourth i don't know why that is they need to hit those shots they've been important shots for their team but i think again how long can they sustain it uh they've got to do it much hunger's got to do a much better job on the defensive boards that's the key and is there an adjustment you can make sagging in the lane i don't know you know yeah i think what we saw early in the game were the low post doubles uh when the ball came in the close to nurkic they doubled him with henga came from the ball side uh so i think you can look for some low post doubles in the second half from from hungary defensively that's one thing that you may see um you know from that standpoint it's it's just protecting your bigs as well look at nurkus just overpower keller there that's such a tough matchup for any play it's also it's also interesting to me the hungry have turned the basketball over just once in this game i don't know what that says about the about the defense of bosnia herzegovina well let's give hungry credit they're playing within themselves they're playing within their system they really have a great understanding of each other and i think that's more of a testament to the the style of hungary than bosnia i think what we saw from bosnia in the [Music] carrying the first of the entire nation representing your people and their dreams the colorful faces of the streets the screaming fans in the to make your stands all eyes on you all hope all hard because when you win you win for all leading scorer as he passes [Applause] taking off the clock here serbia possession three-point attempt is good from boganovich [Applause] oh again massive rejection from anthony that's a huge play such power monster explodes up the court he takes it all the way how about that from luca dorches he is now in the game big time coast to coast luka doncic he's always trying to follow now tima yanagenics [Applause] who would not want that man on their team unbelievable [Applause] saves it gets it back three on one for germany it's ties oh he just ripped through the ozone layer [Music] so david voivoda i'm not sure he's the top scorer i think he's the second leading scorer at 10 points but boy has he been important certainly kind of helped set the tone or bank access 12 points but voivoda of course very important uh coming out and making plays early for this hungary team when they need a big basket they can put the ball in his hands we saw it at the end of the first quarter uh he has the ability to attack a match up one-on-one here you see him drew the switch isolates his defender gets into that great step back jump shot creates his space and buries it of course the downside is he has three fouls and he had to sit down and it remains to be seen what he will do in the second half use of nurkic i suppose no surprise and again this is uh tough to tough to contain again great low post score uh you know asserts his physicality and advantage in the paint really impressive uh to start but again i'm i'm really surprised that both nurkic and royowota end the first half with three fouls nothing to be concerned with yet but it could become a factor if they're limited in the second half is more important to bosnia herzegovina than uh voivoda is to hungary yes because i believe that the team gains so much self-confidence from nurkic having them out there on the court they can rely on him he can handle all of the responsibility of the game and again when he's out there not only scoring on the inside but as a stretch five shooter just showing off his total package what an outstanding player [Music] well again we talked about the importance of this game for both of these teams bosnia herzegovina and hungary and i think both are perceived and probably correctly to be the underdogs in this group so you simply cannot afford to lose this game if you want to uh really aspire to move on into that next phase of the competition yes i agree this this is a pressure game this first game uh the winner keeps their hopes alive and the loser really is facing a tough stretch with all the talent in this this group this group is a fantastic group outstanding teams um and let's be realistic that hungary and bosnia they would be the underdogs against you know france germany uh lithuania slovenia so this adds to the importance of this first game now we talked about how these teams have had a chance to play those european qualifiers games because you see hungary 46 points 14 rebounds eight assists and we know they need to improve on the boards uh you know has it benefited them that's a controversial it's a great question um i think it's been a unique uh combination of the qualifying windows right before euro basket i think it's been maybe a challenge for coaches and management to handle [Music] and here we see sila vinca getting the focus as well you're seeing his outstanding contributions and you need obviously you have the headline name hunger boy boda for hungary but you need other players stepping up and for bosnia herzegovina so many more rebounds 45 points 24 rebounds nine assists yet they trail at halftime benka really asserted himself played with great confidence uh was very impressive in the first half and that's a great surprise a great boost for hungary but we'll see if if hunger if bosnia can continue their dominance on the boards their physicality in the paint as john and musa as we look at the focus player for him in that first half are you happy with his performance i think at times especially early he he was really impacting the game and then he was quiet um he was really good in transition he was really good on the short roll actions and we'll see if they can incorporate some of that into their attack in the second half we played 12 minutes 43 seconds in that first half and um again the big developments [Music] has the three fouls and voivoda has the three fouls for hungary it's interesting with you know talking about the you know who's more important to the other i think and i take your point about nercus but i finishing plays keller has a beautiful roll right down the lane rims out the dunk and then in transition beautiful pass from bozvoda he's got to finish those two plays it's as simple as that and then down the other end you know the way the game works if you leave your plays unfinished the other team's going to have that advantage and when they'll have the opportunity to finish [Music] is he doesn't want to miss the dunk he doesn't want to miss the layup if you're going to be an athlete you're going to have those moments but hopefully he can recover and make some key plays down the end offensive rebounds off of missed free throws are just so disheartening to a team we've already seen allen hit a three and there's the defense scrambling hungry and able to get it to hopkins he spins turns goes and gets rejected by nurkic [Applause] and if you're hungry you know they're not thinking about this right now but you know it's not going to get any easier in this tournament hayden adage getting any daylight alex phil gets it to drop [Music] again the offensive rebounds even when they're boxing they're able to lean over and tap the ball but again in that quick sequence they put the ball into close to nurkic they doubled him from the ball side and attic was really smart he went to the ball side corner was open for a three-point shot so that's the next thing that would be the next situation for hungary to deal with they start making their threes yep pearl oh and really starting to add it up as well from the rebounds but the soliloquy and in some ways it just makes it worse not most athletic front court player but he's a worker for sure hungry had a foul to give [Music] is the possibility there for hunger to start applying some type of pressure full court pressure or something to get to get boston hurts gavin and maybe force a turnover or two i think it has not been part of their i think it's not been part of their you know team they're a team that likes to play a certain tempo a certain style shock hawk or gameclock about to expire he has to turn he puts it up it's blocked good defense by pearl [Applause] so that is the end of the third quarter and it has been a great third quarter for bosnia herzegovina they outscore hungary 28-17 and lead it 73-63 impressive quarter for bosnia well good look at the staff [Music] not sure what we can gather as much from that i think the more important that probably again the rebound rebounds will i think the decisive deciding factor here and really the way the way it was going for hungary we kind of felt you know they they were hitting the the okay you know they were they got a lead they were getting big shots and uh as long as they can make shots they were in it but they weren't stopping bosnia herzegovina and it's just funny that the the kind of deciding factor in the plays were the two missed layups from keller that gave the rhythm an opportunity to zobazu but the bosnia teamwork and passing and you know past plays in the paint have been really good here in the third quarter i just think it was interesting that they decided to start with nurkic on the bench uh and we didn't see them until the five-minute mark yeah allowed them to pick up their defensive pressure [Music] so they turned a negative into a positive yeah and they were able to conserve you know save them a little bit protect about pressure it's got to be defense for hungary and rebounding and oh boy right on cue and look at that another one this time the ball batted the boy bodo so it could have been worse much worse for hungry they only give up one point that trip down the floor pearl turn around off without silky smooth beautiful they recognize the match up the attack nurkic got into the paint use great footwork for the pivot created that space and great finish you need to see more of that from zoltan is there going to be help well he forces up the shot and another chance great job knocking the ball over to hunga bounce pass and there's a follow and fortunately ailingsfield hustled down the floor and got the miss from pearl who was under pressure [Music] this was a terrific take by pearl beautiful and again as you said he's been quiet today you know you'd love to see him impact the game a little bit more than he has let's see if the hungry team can put together a little run here it is incredible when you look at what's going on and the players that he can bring off the bench again flying under the radar is ellingsfield and he is getting it done right now 12 points well now he misses in the rare sight of the hungarian offensive rebound so this could be a huge opportunity but then nurkic reaches in and knocks it away [Music] right when i said it was getting it done he missed a free throw and turned it over even though they've cut it back to a five-point game they're right there anything can happen five-point game just gotta figure out how they're gonna defend the post with merch and you gotta do a better job of controlling the board is also back in the game that misses all gives them a chance but pearl couldn't rebound the miss three-pointer from nurkic maybe not the shot they're looking for oh boy hunga able to get the basketball back a little runner and gets it to drop how about that hungary have battled back they trailed by just three musa nowhere to go but the reach from ailing spells and puts musa on the line is really good in those open court situations attacking one on one [Music] the bosnia herzegovina have sort of welcomed them right back into the game haven't they they said here we don't want to just blow this thing out come back let's play it let's make this close they had the opportunity to really assert control that 10-point lead and just goes to show you got to play contribute here now takes pearl down low and flying in elling spelled with the rebound hungary showing themselves to be mentally tough duress and now moosa over the shoulder pass to nurkich and he he's going to help him up and now they've got a technical foul on hunger for complaining about the foul oh boy and you can see he had all ball and i guess that's what he's complaining about but the foul itself so he makes the free throw so he gets two fouls yeah i mean you can understand the frustration of your hunger but you've got to maintain the word that we always use with our teams is emotional discipline you've got to control your emotions especially in these moments difficult time for a technical foul well the frustration was there because they called the blocking or they'd called the foul on uh hopkins hopkins yeah the moving screen just moments before of course you never know i mean hunger he might have said something yes merited we don't know what was what was said on the court [Music] can't get the first one to drop [Music] he's seeing a player reaching in so it's not always this clear cut for sure and those things will even out over the course of the game so yeah emotional discipline ally and the foul the push on nurkic keller will go to the line to take two very important free throws for hungary i think adam brabach has done an outstanding job pressuring hunger making him work for positions just generally being a pest defensively against hong kong [Applause] the first free throw takes his time second one doesn't go in either still only a four-point game hungry in a zone now that might be in a man now looks like they're sitting back in the two three nurkic he's gonna go boy look at him [Applause] he puts all the decking drives pretty well for a big guy he does he's so big and strong and you know you're bound to foul him if you're sliding with him trying to defend uses his body extremely well ah 19 points three rebounds i suppose they'll be happy to see him exit the game but it's like you said earlier on this then allows a little more defense for bonsai herzegovina a little more aggressive defense yeah you're able to play the hard show outstanding he scored in a lot of ways he's impacted the game been great in transition made plays for his teammates he's done it on offense and defense musa has played very well today [Applause] boyd and they somehow hungry are lucky not to turn the basketball over there [Applause] that's not the type of possession you want coming out of a timeout a key timeout like that trying to rally the troops three minutes to go plenty of time here little runner from the line musa has it taken away by vinca toyboda hungry desperate for points and they get two from boyboda [Applause] [Music] luther wants to drive he hands it off to hillabitch and hello look at him just never give up on those rebounds but hungary come away with the basketball dives in hopkins with the rebound and the foul on bosnia herzegovina [Music] obviously that impacts both ends of the floor with his rim protection and then giving them an obvious option to score but remember he's got four fouls as well hopkins also has four pounds for hungary bounce pass hopkins spins turns goes up how in the world did he score that over nurkic crafty finish from hopkins and it's an eight-point game again just a little bit of hope and roberson powell before the shot [Music] [Music] perhaps a nail or two in the coffin here of hungary if he can make these free throws big free throws and not a guy not a bad guy to have at the free throw line the word automatic comes to mind two minutes on the drive to bosnia herzegovina trailed by as many as eight points in the game and closing in it appears on victory on opening day oh boy the pass intercepted chance for boy voda ellingsfeld keeps it alive gets it back karate for three still can't get the drop for [Music] [Music] this hungary a game that everybody said you had to win it if you're these two teams oh and robertson strokes it from three-point range [Applause] big bucket right there for bosnia that pretty much ices it 95-82 and adin like he has all game wrong has been a tremendous pest defensively but look at this roberson 18 points for him five assists couldn't ask for anything more from him in this game [Music] also couldn't have asked for anything more from him in this game he's been terrific 20 points tank has really played well seconds off the clock now he's going to attack and this is nurkic so gets the offensive rebound they stay with it somehow avoid giving up two points [Music] finka for three now the desperation mode and the rebound collected by bosnia herzegovina and luka hillamus the captain waving at their fans and it has been a great game and bosnia herzegovina clearly thriving on the emotion great moment for them mike they win it 95-85 great start for bosnia uh well-deserved victory lots of players impacted the game herzegovina off on the winning note 95-85 over hungary [Music] well it was really those third quarter exchanges that got him going and their continued dominance on the glass yeah they played through the post very well they you know utilize a short roll create some offensive opportunities obviously nurkic gives them an advantage down there uh musa had an outstanding game roberson steps up late with some big shots and big plays really good team win for bosnia here to start off the tournament well there they are it's interesting only second chance points in fact both teams with 12 kills but it feels like those second chance points were more for positive covenant you look at the numbers mike and it's 18-25 at the free-throw line obviously that played a role in for bosnia and herzegovina it definitely dominated the class this big strong physical team yeah you know they have post up opportunities uh and they can play through the four or the five i think i had a game-high 20 in defeat great game for him but the only thing that matters is the w and it's bosnia herzegovina that is celebrating after day number one it's a team that's together and hungary meanwhile he just felt like i guess the better team won today and hungary's got nothing to hang their heads about no there's some opportunities but they gave a respectable effort they you know they're a team that people should respect they're well coached it's a strong core you know it's just tough for them matchup wise to handle a big body like nur cage and and the rest of the front line and saw the advantages in the boards they saw the advantage of these guys scoring in the low post hungary should should have you know they should leave this court with some positives they just got to be a little bit more consistent um you know euro basket's tough it's super competitive uh but they gotta look at the next game right away well we talked about adeem brabhas being a key player i mean really all of them were key players and uh robots coming out making the shot also playing exceptionally well defensively musa really came to life in this third quarter and fourth quarter musa to me was really impactful in the game you know here he is making plays for his teammates finishing plays at the rim really he uh had a big hand in this victory today and all guys at different times a little bit was terrific as usual finishing with uh 16 points and i don't know i think we have kind of have a sneaky suspicion that bosnia and herzegovina are going to do enough to get out of this group potentially it's a tough group but this is not the team that is going to roll over against any of those more famous teams and their strengths are not going to change they will have that size and physicality advantage at either the five or the four spot the center or the power forward spot against all of these teams so they will have some advantages they can play too the only shot 47 from the floor today of course they did they did shoot it better i think in the second half certainly from three-point range they finished 10-29 and yeah 49 shooting excuse me 49 shooting for bosnia herzegovina that was 47 was for hungary uh but they they have they have weapons really everywhere i suppose defensively those where they can really be effective and where they're gonna have to really be good to get those other teams if they're gonna they're gonna win and that's they were suffocating you get against hungry at times today yeah you know slovenia lithuania and germany all present high level you know opponents and high-level individual talents um so it's it's going to be a challenge for bosnia but the one thing about bosnia they're not going to back down for sure and those guys will have every opportunity to assert themselves and maybe some of these other expectations on other teams difficult time so bosnia herzegovina they came they saw they won game one of their phoebe eurobasket groovy showdown with hungary 95-85
