GE Patterson he played at South Alabama when I was in college come back and and he would help us and he teach me how to hit and teach me have not swing a change up you swing change up it was cool you know I think once you get to no matter what level of baseball you're at there's always a level below you whether they're younger or whoever may be it's important you can you can instill knowledge you can you can share wisdom and as we're getting older and we're still playing a kids game I think it's important for us to that knowled as well most importantly he just Tau me he said this is an extremely hard game and it's important to just enjoy enjoy your teammates be a great teammate work hard and then once you go out there you just play hard that's how you yeah Ted Simons was my guy I grew up here in St Louis Ted Simmons was my hair his hair is almost as good as um but well good that's good point uh but Ted Ted was my guy uh long flowing hair switch hitting catcher hit 300 allar Hall of Famer uh he was the guy that I dreamed of being but with his body I had no chance how about you um so the the first I've actually got two um that I first remember meeting uh Tony wac I think he was a cardinal um he I actually played with his son growing up travel ball so I got to kind of be around him that was before I really understood what you know Big League it was and then um grew up kind of in the same area um you know he was also in East Carolina alone so he went to e Carolina so um you know kind of bouncing back and forth I got to um kind of take his r a little bit too so those are my team we have one more question to ask you about the team of course we can't have you here without doing that big win today with gold as walkoff home run how you feel where the team is right now what it's going to take right in the middle of wild card race so how you guys yeah gold starting to heat up for us um you know it's such a long and wild season so to be 100 games any your body like wow Day LA you don't really know where your Club stands obviously you had high hopes and Mak some good additions in the offse roll day like you know I think we got a good team and now I can say this after 100 names we do have a good team obviously uh we got up a little bit slower start really hit the pedal to the metal and played well for about two months um and then now it's just like with the trade deadline of approaching uh you just find way every night for us it's kind of like a postseason mentality you know you know and our postseason race you to show up and play good baseball a lot of times uh suck where it comes down to the last day so you can win a game now maybe on slate or win that last game of the year so it's important but I do like our club I like our defense I like the way that we're starting swinging bats the last two months has been great brother's on on a year right now um and our both great so I like what we're at I I have questions for both of you if I can indulge we talk all the time about um and ask all the time what does it mean to be a cardinal what does it mean for you two guys standing in this building with that uniform on your chest knowing that you guys are going to be instrumental in the future of the St Louis Cardinals and it's a tradition of musio and Gibson and Brock and Boer and gold Schmid and arado and now Donovan and burlson what does that mean to you I want yeah it's special um you know kind of looking back already in my career obviously it's early but um you know I've experienced a lot of cardal history already um Donnie was there in 22 when we got to see uh Albert Kos hit hit 700 home run we got to see Adam way and yotti break that uh the battery record and stuff like that so um you know there's a lot of history with with this uniform and um you know you definitely take pride in it every day you put it on um because you know that it represents More Than This 2024 team right it represents the the teams that have already come before us and it's going to also represent the teams after us um you know it's it's it's really important and one thing that I do remember is just watching Albert how he talking about taking pride and putting the uniform on every day he would unbutton his jersey put it on and then button it back up that was kind of his his ritual with his uniform so just understanding that guys like that take it seriously that that's what me Don guys like that that's what we trying to do you look down at his logo you see the bird on the back it's it's pretty iconic and you touched on it you're you're a torch Bearer right you may not be remembered in this game hopefully you are play long enough to be someone like an Alber or yina but you are simply a torch Bearer this organization was here well before I was alive and it'll be here well before I'm gone so it's important to carry on tradition and Legacy you walk down the hallways and you see all the names and you see all the success that the organization has had having and had so it's important for you to understand and for me I try to prepare I try to be a good teammate and I just try to play hard because for me I see that as trying to car the torch so hopefully I can instill guys that come up and better than well I'm a fan and I'm the broadcaster of the team and I'm really proud of these guys I I get so much joy watching they're terrific players and I think we all get caught out out in the teric players part but I think and I hope that you got a sense of what kind of people they are which to me is even more important so I Sal the go watching do their thing I really do
