Fantasy Football Marathon Mock Draft Recap | Fantasy Focus 🏈

Intro [Music] [Music] [Music] Welcome to Fantasy Focus! [Music] fanty you're in the 61 Focus fantasy [Music] fantasy hello and welcome into fantasy Focus football presented by NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube TV my name is Daniel do joined by field jates and Mike Clay guys I am tired but I am pumped to be here after two straight days of the fantasy football Marathon everything culminated yesterday in our mock draft it feels like that's one of the things that we look forward to every single fantasy season has been able to do that mock draft as a part of the marathon how you guys feeling this morning Mike I'm a little tired me too if I yawn please excuse it yeah I'm I'm like I'm like 60% here okay like 60% that's solid relative to how that is normally what percentage would you say I'm usually 110% wow okay good wow ready to go I'm rock and rolling here this morning uh the draft isw are like of course he is right got up at three espressos you're good to go I did have a double espresso this morning um the the draft is the best it's the best part of amerathon it's also one of my favorite things that we do at ESPN annually because not to get too technical but like a a one hour show much l a three-hour show includes like a ton of preparation and scripting and all this hard work from a lot of different parties y those parties were still working hard last night but a lot of our actual content was just like all right round one read aomo make the pi and react it's great it's unscripted TV for basically three hours we had a blast and my team lowkey pretty sweet we'll dive into it just a month yeah and it's a pretty sweet team like both your teams yeah we'll talk about them in a little bit it's not as sweet as yours but it's pretty sweet stop it stop it hey really quickly before we dive into these mock drafts just speaking of drafts in general we had opened it up we were talking about the veterans League a couple days days ago veterans league is officially open espn.com vet fantasy leagues V fantasy leagues plural to sign up we do not have enough room for everybody but we will do our best to get as many people in we appreciate you signing up obviously appreciate your service as well so if you want to join at espn.com vet fantasy leagues one of the best things that we did last year if you and you have my word mark this down it's August 21st we're going to make sure that we pay this all off at the end of the year like we want to make sure shine a light on the champions of the vet leagues because there's going to ultimately be just one champion and that person deserves even more of a bright light shown on them than we gave them last year can't wait for that we're talking about hundreds of veterans not like you know 10 15 in the league which when we propos this idea I Daniel and I were going over email no big deal Mike um we were emailing this about this maybe like last April Y and we so someone very kindly had reached out and sort of proposed the idea to Daniel I was like's let's let's talk through this we thought like maybe we get a 16 Team league then like you know 380 emails later we were like holy we got ourselves a whole Scott Fishbowl Jr basically made up of these incredible veterans so uh please one more time espn.com vet fantasy leagues cannot wait for that season ahead all right so I wore my Aiden Hutchinson Jersey because I I had it on the back of my seat last night for little draft Mojo So as we dive into this I want to take a look back back at some of the teams that we drafted last night from the fantasy marathon and I want to give a little homage to my guy Hutch for helping me draft such a good team yeah did uh you draft a lions defense or I did draft no I actually drafted Jacob in the second to last round so there we go let's start with you though field I want to te I'm just going to give you the floor we'll throw we'll throw up a full screen excuse me Mock Draft Recap you can kind of explain where you went let's talk about your team I'm going to leave some meat on the bone because a lot of the players as a matter of fact four players that I drafted last night are also going to be covered in fields favorites which we'll discuss a little later drafted players you like believe it or not I did and some that mik clay liked as well I had the two pick and most notable thing I would say is that I took pan Robinson number two overall Y and this actually sprung to a conversation that we had sort of yesterday as well which was that if I were going to take a player ahead of Christian mcaffrey and I don't know whether I'll have the number one pick in any of my drafts this year because the orders that have not yet been determined are subject to a lottery mhm I take Bean as the player as the alternative to Christian if I were going to not take Christian M oh okay if you're asking me hey make the case for somebody not named CMC it would be ban uh but I ended up takeing with Marvin Harrison Jr there's Travis Kelce in round five love that pick a couple of Mike's guys later in the draft Brian Robinson Calvin Ridley as well in around seven and eight so felt good about this draft obviously was able to be patient on quarterback because it's a 10 Team league I knew that it was unlikely that somebody was going to draft two quarterbacks in this Mock Draft last night that being said even if somebody did I still had 12 or 13 targets I felt good about that I could be towards the back of the quarterback I appreciated your spirit of the draft in all honesty because you knew we weren't going to take multiple quarterbacks given how many rounds we were going and so you could have done what Tyler did and just be like he I'm going to wait till the very end because I've sort of gamed the system but there was a little bit of draft Integrity there field you taken Dak Prescott where you did I think it's a pick you actually would have made in a real draft as and I think and Mike you can correct me if you recall you had not yet taken a quarterback as well so I kind of said to myself I'm okay of course with Dak Prescott or Joe burrow but I wanted to kind of put my stamp of approval on Dak yeah which will make more sense a little bit later on in the show yeah it was actually fine there was at one point where it was still burrow Dak and love and three of us needed a quarterback that filled out the rest of the top 10 and I just kept waiting as well cuz I was fine with either of the three I think led the run there I took burrow you or took Dak it went D and Dak then I went burrow and then actually Tyler went Jaden Daniel so Jordan love was not pick in the top 10 and that just shows you especially in 10 team leagues just wait it out wait till everyone I mean in a lot of leagues I think teams will like more casual leagues teams might take two quarterbacks so you have to be aware of that but I feel like if you get one of them top 11 or 12 I Brock py I don't even know if he got drafted if he did it yeah I think maybe Tyler took him like once we were done on air as like a second quarterback late like after everyone had a starter but um that just shows the the depth of that position yeah it really does I I felt like the draft was interesting for a couple of reasons but first I want to look at your team Mike if we can to see the way that it played out so we'll throw up a full screen you obviously picked fourth overall yeah well so we kind of talked about the strategy of going running back early right and that's literally what happened CMC bejan Bree and then you were on the clock at 4: and you like that on purpose oh I've got to take CID lamb I mean most of my picks last night were made exclusively for cont that's yeah uh you could tell I mean you could tell by I got the second best grade Heen I I like both your teams uh but you both did take lots of guys that I've talked up on the show so uh yeah got sniped a few times but I do like what I did here I made it a point to go a little bit running back heavy and just follow the value so CD lamb of course with the big three running backs gone I went there kyen Williams I'll take the little bit of a discount on him Rashad white a good onew punch at running back but also Ken Walker and reminder Stevenson I there's just something comforting about having really good running back depth if you can fill out both running back slots and your Flex with a good running back you know sometimes people say go receiver in your Flex because you can get more points out of that spot but if you have three really good running backs and have that high floor of 15 plus touches a game from all three you're going to be feeling uh pretty good took Evan Ingram's been one of my favorite tight end targets Joe burrow at quarterback I've been drafting those two a ton this year so uh I like the way the lineup turned out I'll feel really good going into week one we were talking about this yesterday on the show when Mike was off he was sleeping cuz he was tired we talking about how early especially in smaller leagues 10 team leagues um it's okay to just compile good players yep right because a third running back may not necessarily bring you weekly value if you crush it with your third receiver as your flex but it will bring somebody else value when they trade for that player from you so even if you don't have Kenneth Walker thei third on your roster for the entirety of the Season you may turn Kenneth Walker II third into Brandon iuk at a later date and there will be injuries I mean I can't tell you how many teams I've had in championship games that look nothing like what I drafted two running backs off waivers uh it's just it's unreal or you know wide receivers like a PUK in AA last year uh it's just every year the same thing happens so just load up on as many good players as you can and and ride it out that was my big take away from your team Mike was and maybe you said this but you took four running backs in the first six rounds of the draft a part of that is the reason that positional scarcity right like you're talking about it feels so great you have the safety net to know I left the draft and I'm not going to have to go out there and scour the waiver wire for some backup hoping things work out or get fleeced in a trade because I know I'm it's going to have to work out that way yeah good ah can I ask you a question though is there a part of you that kind of wanted to not take a third or fourth running back because I know you're the one handing out the grades so you have the authority to grade the the teams however you want it but part of my my calculus yesterday was not just wanting to draft a good fantasy team and wanting good content but it was also to not get roasted on the internet yeah and if my starting lineup looks good I don't think people care about the the depth that much the bench uhhuh so I understand that over the course of a season a third and fourth running back are very valuable MH but you could have had a Saucier second wide receiver aged then Mike Evans Mike Evans is my wide receiver too we all have him ranked what like 13th he actually went way low last night for some reason yeah so I have CI I went like hero receiver like I CD lamb and Mike Evans are my receivers I'm starting every week okay and they're still depth at quarterback and tight end I came out good there I'm absolutely loaded at running back I have George Pickins and SMI people don't care about your bench I mean I was thinking like I was thinking long and hard about building great I mean to have EV I basically went again hero receiver and still have lamb and Evans two somehow top 15 receivers I mean I'll take that all day long I thought it came out great between the seventh and eighth best team last night wow W I mean I was the first best te I was going to say maybe too high still but it's not it felt so you taking a bunch of running backs felt indicative of what ended up being the night to me CU it felt like there were a bunch of times where people in the draft were like you know what I don't love where running backs have fallen I better hurry up and grab my rb2 and I felt like good wide receivers just kept getting pushed down the board really good values I want to throw my team up there Mike I was very grateful that you said nice things about my team on the internet and on television was very careful yeah I was told to YouTube chat uh during the draft agreed with my assessment that you had the best team I was very pleased mcaffry and Travis etn I went backto back running backs and I got to tell you I love the way that my wide receiver still worked out going that way Lon like theeven round she tried she did try to take Drake London in the second round but etn CMC Drake London DK metf being able to grab Lamar Jackson a top five quarterback and Trey McBride a top five tight end and then I just got a bunch of depth at wide receiver tank Dell Jaden Reed Deontay Johnson Keon Coleman a guy you've been talking about just trying to load up on good position players people I know we have absolutely rammed this point into the ground but I'm sitting here I'm thinking to myself Deon Johnson in the ninth round in League oh yeah sweet translation take warney backs early yeah I didn't you know I didn't love jayen Reed you know I'm of course I made that pick for me not for you but uh then you you redeemed yourself with Deontay I appreciate that I think maybe when we look at the end of the season I I realized I've had a lot of Christian Watson uh I wouldn't call it hate but I'm more on the Jaden Reed than Christian Watson bandwagon it feels deeply personal it I want to I want to get out of that because I think both of these guys are going to outperform their ADP I can't believe Jordan love didn't get drafted last night this is a team that I think is going to be so he got drafted after we after the show was over yeah yeah but it just feels like this team is going to be so good I watched Jordan love in basically his first year as a full-time starter figure things out second half of the Season he looked really good if they take a step forward these guys are going as wide receiver almost 35 and later both of them I think they both have a really good chance to outperform their ADP so I'm in on both these guys I just want to say it's not just Jaden Reed I do love Christian Watson I just would prefer Reed because of the injury history to Watson I I hear you it's just a lot of mouse defeat in that off by the way you it's like that San Francisco and it's like that in the text for I mean if Love's going to finish second and passing touchdowns again there's going to be room for several these guys to be relevant and by the way Adam shefer took love as his second quarterback that's what it was right at the end there so good call it was so and and by the way I every time I see a good positive Jaden Reed or Christian won thought which have all been very like well reasoned then I open up Twitter and like Rob dski the great Rob dski who is our eyes on the ground in Green Bay is tweeting about how awesome Romeo do looks once again you know so it's like our Dante Wick so um I I will stand by this stance if you end up crushing your Packers wide receiver pick this year it's because you got lucky yes I yeah I think that I I will say I don't mean that to sound like I'm undercutting your guys but I think you guys admit that like you may be on Christian Watson or Jaden Reed Island but like you're thinking about taking the boat and returning home I hear you I'll say this though if Romeo dobs is the topsc scoring Packers wide receiver in fantasy that's a problem that means that something went wrong with Watson and Reed like he should not be the topsc scoring fantasy receiver to the team I mean he hasn't been a good fantasy receiver and he does not have the ceiling like he's just been a solid presence for them but you expect more from Watson you expect more from yeah I guess the question is like yes based off what they have done at this point and what I am not discounting given how young all of them are it was like the youngest team ever last year is the idea that like Romeo dobs takes a step forward is it uncommon to see that for a player going into his third year as a fourth round pick yeah but this team more so than any other position group in the entire NFL has me kind of perplexed in a good way going into drafts because I think they're all going so low that none of them are going to be a waste of your pick entirely agreed um but yeah it I am bracing for anything with that Packers white dobs brought value last year because of Christian Watson injury and he found his way to get into the end zone like that was a big part of it so if Christian Watson can stay healthy I don't think any of us expect Romeo dobs to have the same kind of year yeah that means something went wrong elsewhere if dobs is still the guy that just like uh you got to plan a is there a little bit in your mind where it's like hey man we've had a couple years of soft tissue history and and we're maybe not fully out of the woods with Christian Watson yet on that like that's maybe my my big trepidation on here I think they're going to use four guys I mean at least four guys you're don't be surprised if you see Bo Melton on the field like they're going to got have 100 yarding last might be eight to 10 snaps a game but he's probably going to be mixed in as well so that's why none of them are ranked high for us Yep they're going to use a lot of players all right let me ask you this question and we'll move on from the mock draft field when you're thinking about your team and we can throw the graphic back up there if you need to look at it is there one pick that you were like man that was probably the like the toughest decision for me that was the one spot where it was or did everything kind of feel like it fell this was the one I will tell you the one spot where I thought long and hard about going a different direction it was the third round in which James Cook was on the board and I have been very clear in this Dan as we all know the running back depth falls off very quickly but when you don't pick again until pick number 39 if I didn't grab James Cook a few spots ahead of ADP then I could have easily been ending up with a player that I don't love as my second running back yeah I I hear you that one was the one that I kind of raised an eyebrow at it felt tough because like cook I mean he's my RB 13 you took him it was at the third round rre Stevenson's my rb1 18 I took him in the sixth round so that was quite a while later so that was the only one where I was like but it I mean it could pay off like he was top five in yards last year worried about touchdown upside but it's such a good offense so it it could work totally when you and I are in the spots that we're at field like we're we're picking at a turn right so once you make that pick you got to wait a long time for yep so Mike what about you when you looking at your team I realized you're the computer brain here you've got everything already set up yeah was great yeah uh I'm I don't know I can't think of one right now I I mean I wanted to running back with one of my first three picks uh rad White's the one that will Define your team in my opinion you think so because we have differing views on what the player will be this year I think the inefficiency will be um not offset by the volume because I do think the volume is going down I do think Bucky Irving will be a factor in this backfield and I do think Bucky Irving will have enough of a passing game role to decrease the value for shod white you and I are about 13 14 spots overall uh in our ranks apart on Rashad yeah I think the only thing might be just two of my first four picks were Buccaneers so if something go sour there uh or you know Baker Mayfield gets hurt or something the wheels could really fall off that's probably the only somewhat risky thing I did there I I don't know I I felt like the value was good pretty much throughout the draft and uh again to Come Away with two of my top 12 receivers going with four running backs early just felt like uh yeah worked out pretty nicely the only thing that I would say for me in looking at it is rre Stevenson so you grabbed a guy in the sixth round usually if you're drafting someone in the sixth round you're expecting them to start from for your fantasy team you drafted a guy that's going to be on your bench and be a situational player or a depth guy in week one yeah but we'll see how it works out well I don't but you still can't start four running backs in this but they will get hurt we know for sure that's something running backs will for you to say most starter most of the 32 running backs that we're going to go in as week one starters will get hurt some I mean they're going to it's just that's fantasy football I thought my biggest one when I was looking at it I had a shot where I had to make a decision between Calvin Ridley who field you ended up taking I was hoping he was going to come back to me on the turn and he did not uh and I believe it was tank Dell and the thought for me there was like do I want to go with a guy that I saw be so good last year as a rookie but he's potentially buried in this Texans offense maybe some boom bust weeks or do I want the wide receiver one of an offense that I don't really know what it's going to look like maybe will Levis is going to air it out obviously we'll see what happens with DeAndre Hopkins but I think that was the big question mark for me that tank Dell Calvin Ridley pick is kind of where I I kind of made a decision there the biggest Injustice that I have in my rankings relative to how I view the player in real life is tankel yeah like it just feels it feels odd it feels unkind to him and yet just go track the history of teams with three wide receivers that are playing a lot it's hard to find a ton of examples of three wide outs all paying off at cost or better yep going into the top 25 or so of wide receivers yeah he rules I hear you something interesting I think about once in a while with situations like this is are you drafting them at their or close to their ceiling right so Calvin Ridley where he went probably not going to blow He he'll be like a probably a wide receiver too I would say he'll probably deliver borderline top 20 numbers but is he going to be top 10 probably not right probably inside the top 20 so where you're drafting him that's probably where he's going to be just kind of a safer pick tank Dell you're drafting him similarly he might not have you know his floor early on in the season might be a little lower because of the other guys yep but he's one injury away from maybe being a top 12 I mean he was six last year when he was playing in full for like in what was it a six week span before he got hurt so there's actually some room like the the ceiling there might be a little higher the range of outcomes could be better so at that point in the draft not you know that's fine like perhaps has a higher ceiling you can make that case yep love it all right that was a ton of fun I don't know if you can go back and watch it if you want to the fantasy football Marathon there you go check it out on YouTube if you want to go back and watch the draft it was so much fun that was a blast let's turn the page though and Field's Favorites talk about some Fields favorites yeah probably the best piece on espn.com any at least if you ask me what the field what is the do you have a like a criteria for what constitutes as a favor is it just guys that you like this year yeah it takes on a bit of a subjective feel to it and what I am not trying to do is highlight the top eight players on my board in fantasy football you love CMC and bean and brol as a matter of fact Sleepers for this year none of the players that I mentioned uh in this piece will go in the first 10 picks of almost every single draft love it um I am not totally certain that any of them will go in the first 15 picks although there is one that probably has a chance so I kind of broke it into a few different categories this year one is players that are ranked at an elite level that at the time that the column was filed I was significantly higher than our ESPN colleagues on okay um the second category was players who I just think are like really good players who are going way lower than I would expect and the third is Darth throw specifically a wide receiver who is going really late that I happen to have 11 spots ahead of both of you guys so it's kind of three tiers of favorites here well let's start with the two at the very top guys that I have said for a long time now I am all in on and at the time of filing so I apologize if this has been updated a little bit since when I filed the piece I had Anthony Richardson as quarterback three mhm if you remove my rank and take the average of everybody else his average is quarterback 6.0 so a three spot difference in the top six of quarterbacks is significant I won't repeat all the things that I have said about Anthony Richardson you guys know where I stand on him by now most likely but what I will say is that he was the first quarterback taken off the board last night it does seem like and not trying to say that like it just because my thoughts on Anthony Richardson people are now drafting him way earlier I do sense a significant wave of support though for Anthony Richardson with a lot of people viewing the upside of his fantasy outut to be as about as great as anybody in the league I felt like when Anthony Richardson came off the board as the first quarterback I was waiting for Mike's head to explode start spinning like a top like it was I could visibly see what are you doing you've made this case a bunch of times why are you going to take Anthony Richardson as the number one overall quarterback when we've watched other guys do it you know I wouldn't do that just for the record like I don't know I'm like the biggest fan of anth Richard this season but like Josh Allen I am like Ironclad on my stance like Josh Allen very much deserves to be the first quarterback off the board and I am like an all things being equal World Josh Allen is going like 30 second in my so this was this was the only thing that was a negative about taking Anthony Richardson Richardson where he was taking is you are taking him at his ceiling he has to finish as quarterback one it feels like for you to be able to get value not for you with what we're talking about but what happened in the draft last night that is fair right I mean in order to justify this pick he needs to be not just qb1 or probably qb1 by a decent amount over Josh Allen or Jaylen herdz guys who we think are really really good bets to be quarterback one as well especially with a good deep quarterback CL is he a guy that you feel like is going to be like is he the quarterback that will be overdrafted based on ADP more than anyone else in this quarterback class cuz mes no it's going to end up being it's going to end up being the biggest names right like Patrick Mahomes who there's nothing wrong with Patrick Mahomes people but like I see leagues where he goes like ninth all the time right now maybe those are more casual leagues people that are doing it with like you know office colleagues who are doing just one draft a year and don't know a whole lot about it which is fine by the way that's a great group of people in fantasy football as well not everybody has to be super intense and have 20 leagues like us three losers do um but I think Mahomes will probably be the name that will go higher if you take a look at the aggregate ESPN ADP we just can't divide take away those leagues only account for the quote unquote hardcore leagues yeah uh by the way uh Richardson like if you take him qb2 and he finishes qb5 you're gonna be fine with that that means that he had a terrific season the problem is like you're right he has to outscore Allen because like you should know better like Josh Allen has done it for five straight years getting scolded like there's just no there's just no reason there's no good excuse to take Richardson over Allen like I just don't I don't know what what possible logic you could use is there a range of outcomes he's the top scorer of course there is but Allen has already done what you were hoping Richardson will do it just doesn't make sense so if Richardson gets outscored by Allen by 15 points you're still like all right I took Richardson first but it's he's still had a great season he finished qb2 but you still should have took Allen who out scored him again because he does it every single year it's just one of them weird uh I don't know we we were having fun last night and I mean what kind of a crazy person that doesn't know anything about football with take Anthony Richardson as the first quarterback who was it yeah some some guy was it was Adam it was Adam Sher all right well it was fun though last night's a fun night the other player that fit into that category for me is Marvin Harrison Jr again at the time of filing and this may have been updated just a little bit I had him ranked as wide receiver 9 where he still is from uh he was ranked amongst the ESPN rankers Not name me at 13.3 so again a big 4.3 player gap between where I had Harrison and where he is ranked in the rest of everybody else's wide receiver column so so um again you guys know my stance on Marvin Harrison Jr I think his ADP of 25.1 is actually an inaccurate reflection of where he will wind up going I took him 19th last night and it did not draw any oo or aw in a negative way it was just like yep Marvin Harrison Jr going to go off the board very very soon you know every year I try to remind myself to be measured when it comes to preseason content we're all humans though right it's fun to watch these guys during training camp it's fun to see them in whatever game action they get sometimes it's Jo practice action but by all accounts Marvin Harrison Jr has looked the part for the Arizona Cardinals and with that in mind I feel very very very strongly that he has a chance to be on the short list probably somewhere between eight and 15 guys that have at least 150 Targets this season wow a lot of targets the only problem with shiny new objects is we all have kind of the same short list of shiny new objects and we all want them our teams just feel better when we have those new exciting players we just feel better about them and we all start fighting over them and that's why get so hard to uh for and I'm I'm probably the most measured in terms of being you know yes you are these guys and for that reason I haven't drafted Harrison much because I'm drafting with you and hyp train can get out of control Hey listen I I I haven't gotten Anthony Richardson or Marvin Harrison in any of my redrafts yet in real life really I can't because people know that I'm going to take them I'm striking out left and right and again it's not like I'm you should giveing I'm seriously though like people are just and I get it I I understand why I haven't had a pick yet like I have not yet had a situation where I felt like it was time to pull the trigger even early people are just like beating me to the punch so anyways those are the two players that I've been all in on will continue to be all in on until the season begins and hopefully in January we are smiling wide about their monster Seasons a couple of players that I feel like are just like good solid values we'll start with Dak Prescott uh quarterback eight in my rankings who is going as we showed you guys in the mock draft last night going in the ninth round I have made this I've sort of shared this statline previously plenty of times but Dak Prescot has played over the past five seasons three in full one with 12 games and one with five games actually the season in which he played just five games was the most impressive out of all those you guys may recall he was pacing for and I'm not exaggerating here over 7,000 passing yards 7,000 passing yards that season in which Dak got hurt and missed the rest of the year but that sounds like a guy that I'm not sure I want to pay to be my franchise quarterback well was just yeah that's a whole different debate for a different podcast probably but Mike was just talking about how like there's no rationale behind taking Anthony Richardson over Josh Allen based off what Josh has done and seems primed to do once again Dak perhaps boringly was quarterback three last year right like he has done this multiple times and I don't see any different offensive infrastructure this year that makes me think he can't do it once again M you know it's wild last year Dak Prescott led the NFL in passing touchdowns Jordan loves finished second in that category both ran for what 200 plus yards and a few touchdowns good solid numbers and they're going in the ninth 10th round of 10 team are are you kidding me like uh that doesn't show you the depth of that position uh we just keep hammering at home but you just you can be patient and still come away with a terrific quarterback I'm with you and and by the way Dak so polarizing but such a high fantasy floor top eight scorer in points per game four the last five seasons he just you're we have him eighth I mean that's probably his floor Ethan's probably his floor he'll probably finish better than where we have him ranked staying healthy now Dak has been a little bit more prone to streakiness than some of the other quarterbacks that we are talking I mean Josh Allen obviously the top of the Heap had 13 games last year with 20 or more fantasy points Dak has had some slow starts he has had some slow middle of the seasons it just happens uh but over the course of a full season Dak tends to be pretty much money in the bank uh next one for me here is z flowers I actually don't think I or any of us have talked a ton about Z on this podcast which isn't necessarily a bad or good thing uh this would be a little bit different than the rest of these players in this regard is that uh I don't know that like Z didn't have a bad role last year he was the Ravens leader in targets and catches yes Mark Andrews got hurt he also had as many double digigit Target games last season as any Raven has since Lamar Jackson became became the starting quarterback amongst wide outs really so they haven't really had this Alpha wide receiver with Lamar the closest would be Hollywood Brown prior to Z flowers so this is me baking in the seconde jump now my rank does not reflect that I am way ahead of the curve compared to my fellow ESPN colleagues on Z flowers I have him as wide receiver 25 just one spot ahead of Mike and the same as Daniel but if you told me that Z flowers sneaks into the top 15 for wide receivers this season shock level would be zero you said second-year breakout and we started to see hints of it late last season I know Mark Andrews was out for a part of that but uh he had four games with 20 plus fantasy points last season uh and including the playoffs those four games came in his last seven outings so he really started to heat up late the only knock last year really was he didn't get he didn't see much work near the goal line and I'm not sure that's going to change with the Ines there so that could limit hising a little bit but if he gets to five maybe six touchdowns with Lamar Jackson and and with the target share he's going to see he should be in a good spot one thing that I feel like I remember about Z flowers Mike you were talking about just rookie wide receivers and how well they do in their uh first season compared to their second season and it felt like Z flowers was right on that cusp but we feel like even though he was maybe right near that line there's a lot to like about him in his sophomore season as well and by the way we don't we have him ranked similarly but and and we haven't talked about him a lot but we talked about him a lot during our mock draft process because we were always fighting over him yeah I know Tristan drafted him a ton and sniped me because I was whenever I drafted by him he always took a you same thing I think I think you you took him a few times he was just one of those guys that always came up in the chat like I want you know I wanted that guy you just took him so is flowers is he one of those guys that if you're going to draft him because we're not totally sure I know you talk about the double dig targets but like he's not a guy that's consistently going to see 11 targets a game it doesn't feel like I'd love it if that gets unlocked consistently no but he certainly can get there like if you told me he had like I think 11's a robust number but I could see him having 12 games this year with nine or more targets that would be great his talent and that quarterback that's certainly enough to pay off wide receiver to he'll get a few carries he had a rushing touchdown last year I mean yeah he should cons he he should though consistently see like eight targets though like that's that's a good number sure so he's not one of those wide receivers that you're like if I'm going to grab this guy I want to make sure that I have someone else that maybe has more volume because there can be some boom bust nature with a wide receiver like this right when you're not talking about a guy that's going to see huge his volume is good to very good it's not Elite but it's also not like he's not getting six get a quarter of the Targets in a good high-scoring offense there are some yeah there are some wide receivers that like you know you just have to live with the up and down nature to them like at the highest level I think of it as like a DK metap thing right like DK can six for 119 with three touchdowns one week and then follow that up with two for 21 the following week you know yeah I think he's on the list of like players with the smoothest path to like quarter of the Targets in their offense like he certainly who Rashad baitman I mean who's going to take Nelson agars they're three Andrew and him yeah yeah yeah he should be in a good spot all right moving forward here to yet another tight end and that we all I think really like I have a couple spots ahead of these two guys it's David and joku who I thought was the Browns best offensive player over the course of the full season last year some will point to the target shair with Joe flacko on the field as opposed to DeShaun Watson well I thought it was good pretty much the entire season he kind of got going he was quiet in the first five games he had four Duds in his first five weeks the David and joku and then took off and just became this player that I think for much of his career fans were dubious this is who he could be he gets that big extension from the Browns a couple off seasons ago that looked at the time like what are the Browns doing and now it looks like a value contract relative to his production over the past couple of Seasons I think there's a chance that he is clearly the onea in this passing offense along with Amari Cooper Shawn Watson probably the biggest wild card in all of football once again this season with his performance but I don't think that's enough of a detriment to me to for me to not feel like David and joku going to have a big season and on top of where I have him ranked that's also where he's going in drafts which if you look at it right now do you have the number Daniel pulled up pull it up right now okay I thought you were already pulling it up but the bottom line is that he is kind of a forgotten man relative to some of these tight ends I have said uh that I think there are 10 tight ends I feel really good about going into the season uh the coff point is Jake Ferguson he's number 10 and then after that you're talking about Dallas Gard T.J Hawkinson if he were healthy obviously would be in that but it's Brock Bowers uh it's maybe Pat fouth Schultz Schultz is the other Schultz but you look at so like those last two are Jake Ferguson and David and joku like I'm consistently see seeing those guys slide in to like round eight nine 10 and you're like I'm getting my starting player who can be very good in the eighth ninth or 10th round I love that value end of the ninth beginning of the 10th round right now based on current ESPN ADP that's great I think it's great value there for David and joku I think a good player um good role and great great value there he saw just as manytimes taret as Amari Cooper did last year yeah so he's the 1A or did miss some time at the end of last season a per game basis it was on a per game basis it was and by the way you guys aren't even you're kind of low on DeShaun Watson and still feel that way I mean imagine if Watson does finally turn the corner and plays at a high level I mean then you know the sky's the limit not to Pivot off of this topic but you say you guys are low on the Shawn Watson are you more optimistic in I think I in general been a little more optimistic I mean I think people would be surprised to know that that offense had a better EPA with Watson then it did flacko last year like there was some I I actually love that because it got people so mad online about EPA discourse oh yeah and people were just so pissed they were like I don't well you can take your EPA and shove it because Joe Flo obviously was way better yeah but but if they were if that stat was used to defend their favorite team then they would they would be using it in one second that's the though because it feels like Joe Flaco was legitimately better from a fantasy perspective for our guys I think uh Flo I think flacko got a little bit of he played a little YOLO ball and he hit on some low uh you know High variant needs to play y all fell apart in the playoffs they got absolutely rocked byou yes exactly right so that kind of thing can work for a little while but it doesn't work for a usually comes up yes um all right so I'm gonna I will table one player we'll mention him in the next segment we are doing but one last sort of flyer and there are so many flyers I mean just so many Flyers that I can make the case for right we have had plenty of time stall Bobby Clark yeah um Philadelphia Flyers that was good knew so many non football players be back in the day he was an absolute moose too uh khil Shakir though was one that I wanted to mention just because I am significantly higher on him than the rest of our ESPN rankers I've been feeling this way since the Stefan dicks trade went down but I think the bills were more comfortable with their wide receiver room than the rest of us on the outside were and I'm not saying it's excl exclusively because of khil Shakir but I do think he was the most prominent holdover name because no other wide receiver on the roster has caught a pass from Josh Allen in a regular season game so Shakir being the familiarity being a very good route Runner he played 92% of his snaps in the slot last season that role I think is bound to shift with Curtis Samuel if he is healthy for week one they were both top 15 in points via the slot last year so they can't read like both of them can't do that again just like as a little bit of an education on khil Shakir for those that haven't really watched him that much which is understandable he was the Bill's what third or fourth wide receiv receiver for much of last season really good route Runner really good after the catch I think he moves into more of a perimeter role although he can play from the slot I think Shakir again he's wide receiver 49 I am not like you know Breaking the Bank on this player I'm not telling you he's going to be a lineup lock every single week but if you're going to throw a dart at a Bills wide receiver I made it clear that my order is dissimilar to most of my ESPN colleagues yeah I mean I looked at some league history on him because initially the discourse and I got I got hammered by Bill's fans because this they traded Stefan Diggs and then a lot of a lot of people in my mentions like they don't need him they have Shakir like they're fine like they have and like look at his numbers last year's efficiency and first of all like and I posted a lot of this on social like he had he had like the fourth highest yards per Target for a receiver of the last like 15 years or something like that and it's like the top 40 on that list all plummeted the next year and not didn't necessarily see an uptick in targets either so first of all that that is going to drop right his efficiency will drop the efficiency will for sure yeah but um the other part of this is historically guys that see as little volume as he has had in their first two years in the league generally don't pan out they're long shot so I wonder about a few of those things however I agree with you that in terms of his situation and it you know how he's played so far and the fact that that depth Shard is wide open with Josh Al I mean there's a lot of reasons to take a late flyer you're not again you're not spending a lot you're not drafting as your wide receiver too this is a late flyer and maybe he's you know sometimes day three draft picks take a little time in fact usually they don't perform right away it takes a couple years so maybe he's that next guy that's when you that's when you throw the darts at guys like that he was also one of those guys that the draft Community liked more than where he ended up being drafted right like he was a surprise falling to day three the year that he did fault to you're right though in general we like to we like to give GMS a hard time they know what they're doing usually if you follow what NFL teams are doing and you draft that way in fantasy especially in Dynasty it's going to work out for you you have it I'm trying to find his ADP but I could not it's it's undrafted undrafted ADP is undrafted so again this this is a free this is Fields free this is your lottery ticket um I mean there are other obviously uh more I think there are way higher upside players that are going in like rounds 14 and Beyond but like I think a fairly steady role and there is a value in having a fairly steady role on your bench especially when they're going to be multiple weeks this year with six teams on a bu that to me is a useful player to have in your roster kler fulam said it a bunch last night Mike's Nemesis maybe it's a good idea just to have players on good offenses in fantasy football and when you can get them for free at the end of draft why not see what happens with that situation uh that's largely true it is largely true uh the Chiefs a couple of years ago would be evidence that it's not always true right the year that Juju Smith Shuster was like the most fantasy relevant wide receiver and he was still like wide receiver 36 mostes can't Le both had T but is larg it's a it's a great rule of them I wonder if that could be the bills this year though with Josh Allen scoring all the rushing touchdowns and if your guy James Cook has a big season if they're sharing with all these guys D kingad yep yeah good call and Dawson Knox is going to score probably four five token yeah I was going to say his five touchdowns this season uh I have one more player that I will save because we have something next oh yeah talking about so let's talk about our must draft players outside of the early rounds we know where we want to go in the early rounds guys but let's talk about the guys we want to draft a little bit later in the draft yeah and so in the interest of like not getting like totally skewered once again um I do want to make this very clear like if you're asking me like my must draft player like the yeah I would I would freaking love am mon ra St Brown in every single draft but like you have to be in a very specific range to get that player right well you yeah this is you were mad at me you were rolling your eyes at me yesterday because my or uh two days ago on FF now because they said my must draft player was Bon Robinson but he's going like ADP is like six I know but you describe it differently though right like you described it differently like you're saying I was like this guy over here this guy over here um but no but you have you're taking him second yeah exactly yeah right as opposed to I'm just giving you a hard time yeah it felt it felt like an attack because you're like am manra he's going right around ban okay well my point is this is that oh well but I don't have I don't have am manra is like the second player on my board so if I did I would make the case for him right but it's like these are players that aren't going I think in any of our picks in in like the first 75 selections right now yeah so are they the player that like is going to make or break our season no are they the best players in fantasy also no the point is that like at Cost you're getting a valuable player at a dirt cheap cost yeah Mike's actually got the highest ranked or highest ADP player on this list and that is Evan Ingram take him last night yeah did taking him a lot yeah the problem there is I just see tight ends that haven't accomplished what he has accomplished including last year going ahead of him by several rounds quite often and again we talk about shiny new objects Kyle pittz Trey McBride the next big thing Evan Ingram the last two years has been a top five scorer in fantasy points last year he was fourth in the entire NFL in receptions with well over a 100 I have him projected for 87 and he still projects as tight end five yeah uh he is not a big touchdown scorer he hasn't been really since his rookie season when he was basically playing wide receiver for the John because they had no one else uh but that doesn't matter a lot at tight end you would be surprised to know that one tight end had more than six touchdowns last year and that was Sam leapa that number will probably drop for leapa this year maybe someone else scor six seven eight touchdowns that's fine Evan Ingram can score four or five touchdowns and be a clear-cut top five scorer and the discount you get on him is unreal so I I don't need the sexy new tight end I'll take the guy that's already done it and we'll continue to do it and we talked about this quickly yesterday during the marathon on but like Evan Ingram doesn't score touchdowns very often but when you have the volume share when you're getting 116 receptions most ever for a tight end in history it's okay if you're not getting in the painted area some guys are chain movers some guys are touchdown scorers you can still be a really good fantasy tight end as a chain mover and touchdowns can come too what if he just scores eight this year I mean that's possible it could it could totally happen this surprised me do you know how old Evan Ingram is uh 26 I I would have guessed probably 29 30 what no he's not he's 30 now wow that's all right hold on we got to change mik guys I'm out no that's oh yeah and for that reason okay I'm sorry he turns 30 in 10 days okay yeah so he's that was a big Miss I don't know you tricked me you went the other way I was like oh no is he younger than it no so I I um yeah I I I was looking at a dynasty trade and he is I've I've got this weird situation where I I have some other areas that Must Draft Value Adds need to be addressed but I've really kind of crushed my tight end picks so I'm trying to diversify my portfolio there with Evan Ingram and Trey McBride amongst others on the same team I talking about 26 that's doe but anyway that's fine Mike's kicking himself never but that's okay for tight ends he has a couple more years of high-end point no I just just I was surprised by that age myself usually yeah you guys have already heard me talk about this guy a bunch so I'll be quick about it but my guy outside the top rounds of drafts is Jaden Reed to me honest I like Christian Watson too both of these wide receivers I think are going too low but Jaden Reed is my guy doesn't have the injury history that Christian Watson does seven of his final eight games he had at least 15 fantasy points uh he was I did not pick this music does feel a little military ass yeah uh he was a top 10 wide receiver over the final eight games of the Season just the eye test watching him and what he can do he also was involved in the running game a little bit I love what he can be in this Packers offense that I think is going to take another step forward this year and I've been thinking about this if I love Jaden Reed this much then I got to make a change to my quarterback ranking because I think Jordan love is going to be able to help elevate a lot of these wide receivers to a better spot I need to move Jordan love up in my rankings as well who he passing that's the question I think I'm gonna have to put him my head of burrow I might have to think about putting my head of Dak Prescott that's Saucy I like it yeah so that's F I like it's totally he crushed it from a touchdown perspective last year and I know he wasn't a rookie but the idea of like this second year maybe the game slows down even more for him and he's got such a great plethora of pass catchers at his disposal so I'm in Jaden Reed this year all right my player is one that it's funny it's like you know I uh and again not trying to like say that social media is representative of real life but uh the ESPN NFL account which has got lots of followers obviously tweeted the clip and I think that sometimes like when you just see the text you might think to yourself like what like your must-have player is javante Williams like here's my point on javante Williams there's some context is rb23 yeah is going as RB 30 in the 11th round on espn.com right now just look around the other players that are going around that time at running back and you're saying to yourself like which of them do you feel like is a better bet than javante Williams to be the lead back in his backfield Mike is doing some sort of hand J right now for that you want those names field this music's amazing okay yeah throw some names up all right so you've got Taj Spears Austin Eckler Ezekiel Elliot Zach Moss Nick chub dein single ter I went Chante yeah I was going to say like I think the only one that you think has a chance to be the number one in his own backfield is probably Zeke Elliott and who do you think is a more talented player 23y old javante Williams or 28-year old Zeke Elliot right um I just think javante might be one of those guys who's just been entirely overlooked because of how bad last year was and yet last year was like very explainable there's a pretty clear and obvious reason why javante didn't play well last year yep he was not even a full year removed from not just an AC out there but a very complicated knee injury that also included a meniscus and something else socl MCL something like that yeah something crazy it was not like uh not to make any of these insignificant right but it was not a quote unquote clean ACL tear so I felt like last year was really about a player who needed a full season to get back to where he was prior to the injury physically and I know that Shawn pton you know a lot of people are say well he's going to commit to multiple backs and they used a fifth round pick on audri estimate a fifth right like didn't take him in the second round here and Jalil mlin who obviously is like microwavable offense he is very good on a per touch basis but I think he is kind of very clearly in a defined per touch basis role right like five to eight opportunities per game for Jalil mlin and last year despite coming off of that M major knee injury and despite that inefficiency Javonte was 15th in total touches he I just think he's a good enough player in a good to very good role like going as rb30 is like kind of wild to me yeah you know what's gonna be interesting so Sunday is the final slate of preseason games uh Monday the cut St Tuesday's cut day that's down to 53 do you think uh samaj P R's on that roster go with yes you think so yeah it's gonna be he should be I feel like he's a player they should be you know hey Dallas you know like is there a team out there that might be interested in like a a number two or maybe some other teams like they don't need four guys looking for a maybe like if there's a team out there that might be interested he's not if he's not there in Denver I'm curious do they keep four like do they keep four then you're like a little more pause there because if pery stays he's gonna probably have some involvement I would think in the in the offense and then you're you're going to work in McLaughlin and you're going to work in Javonte that's a little more concerning but if they move one then that's a good sign what do the Browns have behind your own Ford Dante for and nem Hines healthy yeah and so we're not really sure what's going on with Nick chub and that few teams I mean I'm sure there's other teams too I use Jacksonville as an example hopefully they're happy to tank bigs B and he makes a leap but like there could be a team like that that's like you know what that's just not C uh well the Saints have Jamal Williams Little Finn behind is peo there a few that come to some teams that are deeper too right you've got Chicago that's got DeAndre Swift and K Herbert and Roshan Johnson like Herbert's an interesting way contract year uh it's GNA be this Swift show I wonder if they they should at least listen there some guys they the team should just be listening on he feels like one of them too all right let's talk about a couple of running backs couple of running backs to be able to close this thing out a little this or that as we're going to call it it's not just running backs but that's what we're going to start with here Mike you took one of these guys in the draft last night I'm going to start with you would This or That? you rather have Aaron Jones or aandre Stevenson Stevenson wow I like him uh you know what I was they they uh got rid of Zeke in the offseason he left for Dallas they brought in Antonio Gibson which probably efficiency wise versatility wise probably a little bit better for them but they also extended the contract of verre Stevenson they paid him uh and that gave me a little sometimes that gives you a little extra uh confidence we'll say in a player that he's going to be remain their feature back not that that we were super shocked by it but uh ra Andre looking at a bounceback season he was terrific a couple years ago and near the top of the leaderboard at running back in most categories including receiving categories last year a little bit of a drop off but he was fine like he was fine he was putting together top 25 weeks each week not a lot of ceiling but he was fine uh and that and then he got hurt of course but now he's back he's going to be the lead guy and by the way the Patriots it's kind of under the radar following kind of Chris Ballard's script here let's just keep our own guys let's resign all our guys the whole team keep them all together and move forward that way we've seen the Colts do that for years so uh Rand Dre was one of them guys that they resigned field if we were gonna make a case for Aaron Jones because I'm I'm with the uh Mike on this one how would we make it what would you talk about the case is he's a better player whether he will be for a long time going forward or not I think garon Jones is a better football player than rre Stevenson both as a runner and in the passing game as well and that passing game utilization might be a little clearer for Aaron Jones than it is for ra Andre like offensive line in Minnesota can actually protack like the Patriots could be under siege they could be a disaster offensively once again this season so it could get messy there I think the chance for one of these two to play in like a pretty highly functioning offense is way higher for Aaron Jones than randri even with Sam darnold under Center yeah I think Sam will be fine fine like not great notable he be fine um I'm going to withhold like any sort of board bet opportunity here involving Aaron Jones and Rand just because I think stfa will fight that battle on Aaron Jones behalf by the way you're taking do we agree we' take brassette over darnold over like a four to six game period um I don't know I think it's close but I think I think that's the least close and then you have Drake May who should be an upgrade hopefully if he's not that's a problem so I mean know is goingon to start the season under Center and I was staunch in my stance that it was not going to be him but I'm wondering if maybe Drake May week one starter for the Patriots that would be I mean that's good that's like New England's like okay this guy's the real deal like we have to start him' be that's great yeah he could run too I mean yes it would be Ben Dash only but man he is fun I think Jones maybe comes out hot a little bit and then cools quick you know I I think that's what we're going to see there all right what about Field chase brown or Trey Benson yeah I as much as I love Trey Benson it's Chase brown right I mean one of these guys has maybe already kind of established himself as the likely starter in Cincinnati in Chase Brown Trey Benson is very much dependent upon something happen with James Connor I believe if something happens to James Connor that chase uh that Trey Benson will have a role but Chase Brown will be playing meaningful snaps every single week for the Bengals yeah I think uh we can learn a lot uh from the preseason and but you have to be careful you have to watch the things that matter some things that don't uh Chase Brown coming out in training camp as the one was like okay we all assume Zach Moss but you know he's like in the he's like in the real NFL dead zone so that's wide open and this is a good offense that's going to throw the ball a ton Chase Brown flashed last year I know he's never played more than 30% of the snaps in a game but and they're going to use both don't get me wrong there's going to be multiple backs they could be a team that might add one as well but Brown uh should have been ranked and projected higher than we had him earlier in the off season he's a terrific late flyer right now the only thing about Trey Benson is you talked about if if there's a chance that James Conor misses time and it feels less of an if it's like when James Conor misses time because it's always been a part unfortunately of his career so is there a chance that when Trey Ben Benson does get that opportunity that he's just so good that he doesn't relinquish that role back or because it's James Conor it's like even when James Conor comes back it's like guys it's not it's not just the Trey Benson show now it's we still got James Connor we're GNA split touches with you know we don't want to like dive too frequently into like narratives and like locker room sort of like respect or capital in fantasy football analysis but I do think this is worth stating specific to this year because we'll see what the future looks like for James Beyond this season James is like the dude in that Arizona locker room like he means a ton to that team in that franchise to the point that if Trey Benson comes out hot if James misses some time I don't think James just let get gets like pushed by the way yeah I think he stays involved because he means that much to this team yeah I think the for the case for Benson is he might have more uh lineup lock weeks like if Conor's out for three weeks we might have Benson top 20 every exactly we might have Chase Brown 27th every single week of the season so it kind of depends on the size of your league and you know what you're aiming for if you're just looking for upside on your bench that kind of thing yeah if something happened to Zach moss and something happened to James Conor I would prefer Trey Benson 100% yeah that's the case that's it's just a matter of how you think of it but all right couple wide receivers I think this one's really interesting I'll ask you then all right bring it Keon Coleman or lad makoni I'd rather have Keon Coleman give me the wide receiver that and I get the idea that that lad makoni we're waiting to figure out who's going to be the wide receiver one in this offense we thought maybe it was going to be Quinton Johnston maybe Josh Palmer right I get what lad makoni can be but I would rather have the wide receiver potential wide receiver one for Josh Allen and what that upside could be I think the ceiling and upside for Keon Coleman in year one is bigger than what it can be for lad makoni I think lad makoni probably has a much safer floor year one given what he can be to J Justin Herbert in this offense but I would rather have the upside with where I'm taking those guys at I'd rather have the upside of what Keon Coleman can be in that bills offense knowing that 240 targets have just left that room as much as we love khil Shakir he could be a huge End Zone Target as well Ian he's a big guy I'll go lad yeah I think I think it's so close I mean their their situations are so similar I mean great quarterback they walk into a situation where the depth chart is wide open they could easily be number one uh week one I know maki's missed some time so maybe the starts slower there but he's also a couple years older like he should in theory be a little more polished maybe Coleman's a little bit more inconsistent so I honestly don't have a great answer I have them ranked back toback I just would love one of them like or Xavier worthy or Ryan Thomas I have all those guys together and I would love to get one or two of them that that's IDE I'll throw a dart throw at any of them like if one one of those guys hits you know you're going to feel great it's you get an every week starter and some of them will this is a gut call and I could be of course wrong here but I think lad has a chance to have a pretty steady role as soon as week one and that might hold for much of the Season yeah I think Keon Coleman's going to have a pocket of games where you're like okay all right right I get it right like this big imposing wide receiver playing with the best fantasy quarterback in the NFL one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL five or six weeks he gets hot but I think lad is a steadier bet interesting the way that I think about that is do I need I'm not expecting Kean Coleman to be a guy that I'm relying on the first five six seven weeks of the Season based on where I'm drafting him he's going to be a bench guy I'm going to watch to see what happens there do you think that lad makoni will be more involved earlier in the season than Kean Coleman part because like they really need it they need like Buffalo you could see a world in which they go 12 Personnel Curtis Samuel KH shakier as their top two wide receivers if Samuel is healthy and Coleman playing a role but not necessarily a 70% of the snap but if you need like a deep like think think uh DFS week one tournament like who's a guy that could go under the radar for like 130 and two touchdowns Keon Coleman certainly would be one of them guys that could just just do it right out of the gate in his in his circumstances totally with you on that all right guys that's going to do it for Fantasy Focus today guess what I'm going to go home and take a nap yeah I made it I'm still a week yeah congratulations I'm really proud of you guys this was a t of fun yeah you're going to go
