Intro [Music] all right we are live good morning everyone uh welcome to the Champion Circle Golf Classic We Are The Wolverine Anthony broom here with Clayton safy this is going to be a lot of fun uh for you guys that watched our Monday show we teased it over the next two hours or so we're g to have a plethora of interviews here from the U ofm Golf Course uh college football playoff national championship trophy just over our shoulder here we will talk to Chiron Moore we will talk to several Michigan players uh over the next couple hours so we're super excited for that super grateful to be here uh again um welcome Clayton it's great to be here it's great to have the trophy behind us and it's a great reminder that group of players we're going to talk to guys coming back Chiron Moore they're simply known as national champions Anthony so uh we'll get to talk to them about that but they're looking forward to and they're using that as motivation going into the 2024 season you think about some of the guys coming back a lot of them didn't necessarily start they played big roles but now this is going to be their team they want to be the starters on a national championship team Chiron Moore wants to be a national champion as a head coach and he wants this for his players so that trophy's motivation in my opinion and of course we'll ask him about that but it's great to be here beautiful event and uh you know should be a big fruitful day for Michigan Athletics and we have a bunch of stuff to uh to talk about because nil is rocking and rolling for Michigan football here uh kicking off a couple initiatives with the Champion Circle Golf Classic yeah so let's talk about some of those quick uh we are here uh for our friends at Champion Circle and they are announcing Clayton yeah so first we're going to get Max bres and Jack Tuttle to start us off that's coming up in just moments here we're waiting for them to join us mcari page and Rod Moore after that Quinton Johnson and will Johnson a pair of uh defensive backs that share the same last name Sage Morgan and coulston Loveland are going to join us together I couldn't think of a a better pair to uh to talk that different personalities but I think it's going to work out and they're going to be great and then Chiron Moore Michigan's head coach of course after that Davis Warren and Alex orgy and then to cap us off Donovan Edwards and kle mullings maybe a little thunder and lightning Duo for Michigan football this season they will join us at the end of the show as well um what are you excited to hear about from the three quarterbacks we're going to get to talk to today I want to know everything I want to know if they're gonna you know I want to know their eating habits or sleeping habits how's it going looks like we have one rotating in right now you go here pick up either one Kirk Campbell Interview and we have Kirk Campbell what a good segue down on the schedule so pleasant surprise this morning Kirk how's it going thanks for having me yeah uh it's funny we were literally just talking about the quarterbacks and what you know we're going to hear from all three of them today or the three guys that will be here so what do you make of the offseason that all you know the guys that'll be here had today um I'm assuming you're talking about Jack title Davis Warren and Alex orgie they've been absolutely outstanding um so is the the rest of the room um they've come with intent to be better every single day and compete to win the job they know there's only one football come Saturdays and um they're all up for the challenge Kirk when you think about nil and how it has an impact on on this team it seems like Michigan's been able to keep that strong culture that they've always had and tried to build under Jim Harbaugh continuing here with Chiron Moore how do you keep the culture intact while also knowing that Nal and you know Revenue sharing in the next couple years is going to be a key component yeah obviously NL is a large piece of it but we want to recruit guys that want to be at the University of Michigan not only we were prestigious football program you know the most wins all time in college football history um but we're prestigious academically and the people that want to fit into that culture um we have to evaluate right away right when we talk to the High School coaches their families the kid themselves um guidance counselors that's where you start obviously nil becomes a piece to it later but if it's ever the first thing those guys probably AR for us in the University of Michigan I asked Alex this last week but you know from Spring football to now you guys are you know days away from starting fall Camp what does that process look like for those those guys in terms of is there a pitch count that they're on is there a schedule of things that you like to see them do like what is what does that development plan look like when you guys aren't actively in Camp yeah I think that development plan is um intentional by our our Point as how we script practice making sure that we put them in their best suited talents and traits right each one of them are going to do something better or different than each everybody else it's not fair to ask them to um do something that you know we might not ask them to do on Saturday so when we script practice and the plays that we give them make sure their development plan suits what will show up on Saturdays for that each specific player you did an interview with ESPN maybe a month or so ago and talked about you know Alex potentially having a key part of the game plan whether or not he's the starter I mean and I know you don't know who the guy is going to be yet fall Camp obviously would be huge determiner of that but do you see that that he's going to be a guy that you can still have packages for like you did last year maybe expanded though yeah so like when you look at an offense you know I think you got to look at your players first and what they do best and Alex is one of the best 11 players on offense is it going to be the best quarterback I don't know that's that it should be determined yeah um but yes he's going to have to touch the football we will have a plan for him to touch the football he's explosive he's Dynamic he can throw the football um so we got to make sure that he has a part of this offense how's your golf game uh it's solid right now it's gonna look it's gonna look fine um you know I I play I played really well towards the end of the summer obviously this is the last time I I I'll touch the sticks um I'm fortunate to have a un an unbelievable wife that lets me sneak out um and play um I've had some really good rounds of late so hopefully that carries over today who's the best golfer on the team is it Davis Davis by far Davis just shot a 67 I believe at um Davis I think he's a plus one5 handicap um JD Johnson's probably next and then um I think I would sneak in there as the third best okay Davis was out here apparently last night then it started pouring but he was trying to get an extra look I mean I'm sure he plays it all the time but extra look at the course your guys trying to get any sort of Competitive Edge that they can absolutely and then we got um so we actually I messed up on Thursday we have our quarter our annual quarterback outing so I'll post the winner on my Twitter if you fans want to um check that out Davis's team's favored um we haven't picked the teams yet but the captains will be uh we'll have three forceum it'll be Davis Warren JD Johnson myself be the captains and then we play Four Man scramble so it'll be interesting okay no handicaps there just straight up no straight up um but you know once you get to like this the six golfer where Davis is going to be his first pick it gets rough so Davis might have a team on his back so um trying trying to get those guys involved I know last year uh jayen denal and Alex Orie picked up golf after the golf outing so um they got the itch now so we'll see how they do nice are there any transfera bles from the game of golf to playing quarterback yeah absolutely stay composed well composure but like how you maximize velocity and torque is the same thing with your lower body right you got it's timing right same with throwing a football like now they're different um but they're similar right if you if you can create Ground Force as a quarterback um to maximize your velocity with the lower half you can hit a golf ball pretty far and that's why JD and Davis can hit the ball far um you know Jack Tuttle was out here last year never really played he can hit the ball far if he connects so it's just using your lower body you talked about using Alex you know and if he's not the starter than somebody else is and Alex still has a role what about Donovan Edwards and kle mullings how can you utilize both of those guys yeah I think I mean we're being creative with with packaging you know we Donan Edwards kle mullings coulston lovelin there's Marlin Clyde there's somage Morgan Tyler Morris I mean we got so many Playmakers on offense um we just got to make sure we utilize them in the right right manner um but it's being creative with the packaging and it's being intentional in Fall camp and giving them the opportunity to go do that um you know last year 12 Personnel was our our best Personnel um you know I got to throw Max btis in there and what he does he's Dynamic um doubt you know so is it gonna be 12 Personnel is it 13 is it 21 is 11 we just got to figure out how to best utilize all of that talent in terms of the veteran resources that you have in your Jack with Davis I mean I know there's a scenario where if Jack didn't get that seventh year maybe he's working alongside you on the staff last week we talked to Alex he talked about how Davis is kind of a student of the game in terms of being an expert on throwing the football so how much of a benefit is to to you to have almost an extension of yourself you know in the room I think whenever you can create a culture in the room that guys are willing to help other guys succeed um that's only beneficial for the team we're not selfish uh we're selfless so like Davis helping um Alex orgy or Jack Tuttle giving notes to jayen Davis or Jayden Deno um that only creates a positive environment throughout the whole team um and I'll never waver from that that mindset we want guys that want to help help build that foundation so that's huge for me um because listen they're playing the position I'm coaching it right they're they're getting bullets thrown at them in a different fashion than I am um so let them help help the other guys out uh at times and it's really beneficial for us how would you ease the concerns of Michigan fans that are worried hey we lost five offensive Lin really six that started games last year Chiron Moore is now the head coach Grant Newsome in there I think people have a ton of belief in Grant but first time coaching offensive line and then I would I guess start that conversation by saying hey think four or five of these guys have started games in college as well is that kind of how you see it that maybe it's not that big of a you know replacement there yeah so like number one like sh Moore's not leaving the building he's still there so the help the help with the myself as as a as coordinator at the University of Michigan I know I've done in the past but just giving me some insight Grant Nome at the offensive line who's an outstanding coach um but then we don't have Zach zener the Trevor Keegan the Carson barnards those name plates change but we have Gio Al Jeff Percy Josh pery came through you know you have rahee Anderson Greg krippin Dom GIS um miles Hinton those guys are really good football players the name plates change the mentality the physicality their execution has not so much so much of the talk this offseason has been about how operationally it seems like things are pretty similar for you guys but as one of the you know as one of members of The Brain Trust you know at the top of the packing order are there what are some different things that maybe you guys have Incorporated that you didn't do before yeah I think we just got to I think we got to make sure that we get our players the ball what they're best at you know like we're standing here looking at kle Mullin look at that guy he's he's a mountain of a man yeah you got to make sure you give him the ball downhill right and he can he can scoot on the perimeter as well but to get Donovan in space get sage in space think those are the nuances that that we need to make sure we get done um without losing our identity of being a physical offense because you know the main goal when we when we suit up on Saturday and take our first snap is we want that defense to fear us and feel us with our with our hands you're a quarterback's coach uh or coming from that and then becoming offensive coordinator but you mention it physical identity wanting to run the ball you've talked about this in the past that just because you're a quarterback so doesn't mean you don't want to still have that identity you're not going to you know maybe throw it 60 times a game maybe you will yeah have to do that to win but is is that still in your DNA too that you want to have a strong Run game and be able to lean on the offensive line and all that yeah listen I was born in Western Pennsylvania it's a blue collar mentality football back when I played was in a in a in a shoe box it was physical downhill stop the run nose bleed play action pass y I truly feel like that is still the identity you want you want to run the football first but you want to compliment with great play action pass great call control pass game um with your skilled players because for a quarterback if you can run the foot football the pass game is way easier if you can't run the football you're putting a lot of onus on the quarterback and you know last year we're fortunate enough to run the football extremely extremely well um if if we're able to do it just as good this year we'll be able to compliment with great pass game um are you a Steelers fan I am I I I so before you get in there I I was a die I am a Die Hard Steelers fan but working with Coach Harbaugh in the past he was kind of like I kind of didn't hate the Ravens anymore you know so it's kind of cool but yeah where you going Roman Wilson draft the Steelers first he he had probably had three 300 phone calls that night I called him I was so excited for him to go to Pittsburgh um I've already had family meet him at local charity events uh people texting me my friends are back home how great of a kid he is couldn't be more ecstatic the Steelers got a true blue collar uh wide receiver that um understands you know what Pittsburgh football's all about and JJ is a millionaire now yes he is J JJ is is how fun is it gonna be for you on Sundays after you guys play you got a lot of work to do but you guys got TVs in there watching all the guys from last year's team and the other teams I mean Michigan got it's got to be upwards of 60 guys in the NFL right now it's it's always fun to to turn on the TV on um on a Sunday and see your your previous player succeed so um we wish them all the best they're Michigan men I know they're gonna be checking in on us we're g to be checking in on them um and yeah it'll be a lot of fun when we're game planning and um hopefully after a lot of Victories for us though 100% so for you guys uh heading into fall camp like how much does and I I know every week you guys say is the most important game that you'll play but how much does having Texas in week to kind of cast you know set a tone for how much work you guys need to get done over the next month or so yeah so like obviously to the outside world like that week two that that's that's huge yeah we got to get stuff expediated but like in the past we've never lost sight of our big opponents we're always keeping track of the big big dogs you know uh the Ohio States of the world Oregon this year Texas you know Washington on the schedule um in the past it was Penn State so we're always proactively evaluating them their roster management um what their skill sets are on defense um for us and then attacking them on a weekly basis we're doing that so yeah it's gonna be earlier this year and it looks may be a perceived difference to the outside world but for us it's it it doesn't change much I'm gonna ask Chiron this as well but potentially 17 games this year the season could go to January 20th do you guys look at that as a staff as as where you need to make maybe some changes like hey we do want this amount of capable players to rotate in because we could be playing till January 20th I know that'll actually interrupt if you play till January 20th the winter training cycle and move back Spring ball but that's kind of you know on the back burner I guess but you also travel to Washington is there something you have to do maybe that week to to get like these changes in college football is that something you you guys are GNA kind of plan for I guess before the season yeah it's something we're always evaluating obviously I don't want to divulge into too much I'll let Chiron kind of hit on that um you know he's obviously gonna have the final say uh on any of that stuff but yeah it's going to be a difference I think it with with the length of the Season you look at the NFL injuries play uh a huge part of it look at how many quarterbacks got hurt in the NFL over the past two years because of season length so um we got to be cognizant of that and you got to always make sure that you're building depth throughout the entire season um so I I think that's a huge part of it offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell thank you so much unbelievable the rumors flying everywhere about the 67 I wasn't there to see it but I trust was anyone there to see it apparently nobody on the team but it's it's been confirmed okay confirmed it's confirmed score I wouldn't doubt it how's your guys golf game I get I get the job done I'm a solid player like ham egg yeah mean p no l or a great scramble let's say non-existent right now comes and goes you know it's not bad at Top Golf I can I can hit it far I just don't know where it's going exactly all right well uh fellas welcome thanks for giving us a few minutes today I mean you guys are here on behalf of Champion Circle this is what this entire event is just talk about you know your affiliation with the the group and what it means to be here uh it's a great group put together a lot of great people and uh just giving us the opportunities on and off the field that like um help us set ourselves up for like uh a great life after football a great life after college and just appreciative of what they do for us yeah I would agree with Bry um on all those points and uh we're super blessed to be here just chatting and and uh kind of getting primed for the upcoming season so uh thank you for having us on for sure Jack I want to ask about yourself in a second but can you talk about what Max brings to this offense because I think he's one of the more underrated players maybe in college football um you see fours out there lining up and he you know I I imagine if he's lead blocking around the end and there's a linebacker a DB that has to take on those two fours that are coming his way it's got to be a little scary we've seen some guys get pancak we've seen some guys you know even though there's a bogus penalty involved yeah one of the games in early January uh and you guys will see that player later this season but what does Max bring to this offense in team so a lot of people when we talk about Max when 44 is on the field you're going to get Smash and you're going to get violence and I'll tell you what you should be scared if you're across from 44 so obviously there's that part of them uh but I think the part that people don't talk about as much about Max is uh off the field he's an amazing leader uh just gets the guys going brings the team together he's been unbelievable this off season and the third thing is on the field whenever I see Max on the field and he is out wide or he is running a route I know that Max is going to find the hole and the opening and the defense and he's like my security blanket and it's just so comforting to me and I know to all the other quarterbacks uh and it sure hands too so it's more than just smash he's gu but he is smash for sure what about what was the feeling for you when you got that seventh year granted and then you knew you had to recover I guess what was the spring like too knowing that you had to get healthy but what was the feeling I I talked to you in in Pasadena at media day and you said hey I either want to coach you know I want to be here I want to play or coach we'll see how the waiver goes you get the waiver what was that feeling like no was extremely exciting um to me and uh I think you know being a grandpa on the team isn't a bad thing uh but I'm definitely enjoying it um it was a it's kind of a crazy process there in January but um definitely exciting and um going into this year I think just when I missed spring it was definitely uh it was tough we were talking about it over there but I I got to take on a new like perspective and and help the guys out in different ways everyone was getting a ton of reps um leading the team doing a great job so kind of got through spring and worked my tail off in the ways I could so um excited did well this summer and excited for this fall so Jack what have you learned playing I mean alongside like you played with Michael penx you played with JJ McCarthy do you see I mean it could be a trait yourself too but just with that quarterback room do you see traits of those guys in the room that you guys have currently yeah I think so absolutely um we have a fantastic quarterback room I don't think people I think people underrate us a little bit but you know who cares I think we'll show it through our work this year um definitely there's the it factor that Mike had and JJ had and uh just continued confidence through any type of adversity uh they didn't really care what happened in the game um whether it was a touchdown or a pick it was pretty even Keel throughout the whole thing uh and they're both tough dudes and you know great leaders so I it's hard to explain the it Factor yeah so either you got it or you don't and you're pushing the ball down field and you don't really care about anything the pressure going on around you so for both of you guys I mean last couple years Michigan's not sneaking up on anyone you've been in the mix for national titles and you still are but does it add a little bit of fire to you guys to know that not a lot of you know everyone's talking about Ohio State and Oregon and these other teams out there does that add a chip to you guys at all yeah I think so the way I think about it is thank you to those who believe thank you to those who don't like we don't really care you know what I mean we don't really care if people want to talk crap about us if just fuels us that's how we look at it so I mean did the same thing last year everyone counted out counted us out against I think it was Penn State we were sitting in the hotel coach haral wasn't going to be able to coach we ran the ball 30 something times straight and that just defines our team and I think you know that kind of defines maybe gives us a little personality for this year we still we're still fine in that and we will in Fall camp but it's the same attitude we don't care and we're gonna do everything we can to win yeah all the same things and something kind of instilled in the building is like it's always been the theme of this team is like we just outside noise it's just like noise outside like all that matters what's inside the building and all we have is each other all we have is our coaches and with those guys like that's it's all we trust and um all that matters what we do people we have so we just kind of block it out and just keep being us Max you seem like a guy to me that like fall Camp might be maybe one of your favorite times of the year like bring the energy football guy you know that is that true and what makes fall Camp special where the team comes together you're with each other all the time you get to practice a lot this Jack said you'll you'll find a lot or find out a lot about yourselves during that time of year yeah it's a it's a lot of that as you kind of find out a lot about the team like what you guys are um yeah I love fall Camp just because like you get to see if your actions really match your words like talk all offseason like oh this is not gonna be like so where you really see it and like can you be that same guy day one of practice and helmets As You Are day 16 of the three hour practice like can you be that same guy and that's what I really value about football is like like you can see you can really look deep within yourself and the guy next to you and the guy across from you about like what he really is about that's kind of the beauty of the game especially fall Camp yeah we'll ask your coaches about this and they'll say that oh well every game every practice is the most important thing in front of us and I know you guys feel that way too but the fact that fall Camp is coming up and knowing that you guys have you know you guys have Texas in week two does that add a I won't say sense of urgency but again is that something that adds a you know maybe a bit of flyer to how you guys do go about it I would say someone said this before but I I would say we're not really focused like on all the down the road stuff you know we know what we have down the road we understand it and uh I think right now team's just focused on day one of camp and being the best we can for that um we understand we got to get through fall camp but game one we got Fresno State and um we got to take care of them and and be prepared for that before we worry about anything else what freshmen have come in this summer and impressed you guys maybe sure they're kind of you know swimming Upstream a little bit thrown in the fire but you know the Jordan Marshals of the world the guys that weren't here in the spring how have they worked and and join this culture that that you guys have built uh it's hard to like completely tell Camp obviously but you can just feel certain guys like energy around the building uh Jordan Marshall's one of them like day one I walked in he's just like sitting in the comments with a Playbook I just kind of that stood out to me right away uh there's like a lot of talks to Mason Curtis just like what he can be um the athlete he can be but it's hard to find out till Camp when you get to really see like someone go make a play just right now just off of the energy guys bring it's like there's a lot of good energy in that freshman class like you can really um feel like a humble confidence which is like a very valuable valued thing in this program they really bring it one of the guys that impressed us the most in the spring game was Cole Sullivan you've probably gone up against him is he kind of I mean he seems like kind of a freak athlete and you know has really showed a lot of stuff in the spring game there yeah he's a steady Riser like uh like day one of Spring ball like you didn't like really hear Cole Sullivan but like sure all you get to the end like there's a certain sound that that you can hear when like two helmets really hit like like day one like I mean you're coming out of high school and like by that last oh like there's something there like real juice then you got it was like happy to see a guy get to put it together in like a game situation like there's that real you can like as an offensive guy you can see when the guy really like uh like talk about block stru really can you can feel it and see it on tape so happy to see that kind of come along he's a huge kid got huge yeah kind of skinny yeah he got he got big past like this summer too yeah okay looks great yeah could he play any it feels like he could play The Edge if he like you just throw him out there and let him let him rush or something like that yeah great football player like I'm no coach great football player um the the edge spot's just like a very specific guy sure yeah like U you never know like guys just gotel anything but as now never want to put liit on a guy so looks like a good linebacker yeah happy to see be someone asked us this uh during our live show yesterday but who's who's kind of who have you taken under your wing is the next Max breson yeah um so everyone like Liv not kind of gets developed be able to do backfield stuff like you go look at um Illinois 2022 like ps's doing like pullback stuff yeah but like I'd say specifically uh like Jaylen Hoffman has been he's a kind of that guy getting developed to do like similar skill set similar body type um it is kind of a body type position but um same kind of story like walk on guy like same as I was and I've been really trying to um show him the things that you find with age like while he's younger like really trying and develop him um from a younger age really give him like kind of the tricks of the trade as fast as I can jack how are you going to approach wanting to be the starting quarterback knowing that fall Camp might be the the time that you could become that um and every quarterback we talked to on this team talks about how tight-knit that group is too what is the balance between competition and how do you guys stay so connected and and Alex talks about you know whoever's out there is representing all of us and I mean that that's not said everywhere I mean that's that's something special it feels like yeah I I definitely think approaching Camp I think it's really just focusing on yourself everyone keeps talking about this competition uh who who's GNA be it who's this and that okay but when you enter a competition a lot of guys just like I said get too focused on the external and you really just got to focus on your own stuff MH uh thr completions taking care of the ball leading the team the best you can and you know that's how you attack it uh that's how I attacked it last year and uh just GNA dive into film and keep improving and uh go out there and rip it and uh I think like what you said whoever steps out there and like you said Alex mentioned it before whoever steps out there is a representation of our our room but also our team so right um I think that's competition bre greatness and uh we all accept that and it's going to bring the best out of us and we're all excited Max you've been watching your brother on Sundays for a while but now you have a bunch of other brothers from last year's team and other teams past I mean that we were talking to Kirk like it's gonna be busy they they got a game plan and do all this stuff on Sundays but keep one one eye on JJ and Blake and Roman all these guys is it gonna be kind of the same thing guys I mean a lot of the narratives this offseason have been that operationally things are pretty similar to how they were last year but in what ways do they feel a little bit different um it's a it's a good feeling that like I can't really put a finger on anything honestly um it feels like the same program like it's just uh like the the blueprints there like just keep building it just keep getting it better and better and I think that comes with like we may have hired people from like we had to hire new people but like an example is like kacha like he was already here he knows what it looks like he's won a big F Championship with us like right so even though you're like hiring new people the system still there the same with like coach win it's like it all feels the same it's like the whether they do camps whether it's a signing we did the signing last week in or two weeks ago in Detroit yep I have seen Donovan Edwards this summer more than I have seen very close members of my anywhere we're good everything is where it should be they're still yeah simply known simply known and simply standing and not tipped over it's a little probably a little mushy out here today it did pour when we were here setting up last night um so I mean thoughts on any takeaways from what we've gathered so far here smash the offense is going to be physical um max breson talked about that and he's one of the guys that's going to set the tone for sure and Kurt Campbell like we talked about with him he's a quarterback's coach but he as he said he's from Western Pennsylvania it's in his blood too to want to be able to run the ball establish the line of scrimmage and Chiron Moore is the head coach smash isn't going anywhere they're going to be physical they gotta have good quarterback play though and Jack Tuttle is one of the guys that can bring that as well and we'll talk to two of the other guys that who had the opportunity to win that job later on um but you have to feel good about the bones of what this team's going to be offensively I know we'll start to talk about uh defense a little bit more here with defensive players coming in m page Rod Moore to Elite safeties Rod unfortunately injured right now but uh they have depth there as well and Mari is a heck of a player that I think probably doesn't get enough recognition uh he probably deserves you know quite a bit more of it I would say that I mean one of the more underated I mean he's he's a quiet guy he's kind of like the max reticent of of the defense ter people don't talk about him enough but he's one of those physical you know fundamentally Sol players yeah we'll try and get we'll try and get him to open up and crack a smile over here but he's very you know he's about his business and uh they have a lot of guys on this roster who are like that and a lot of guys know again the storylines have been what they lost but not a lot of people talk about what they still have coming back other than you know the guys that might be first round picks next spring but you know when you look at some of those lunch paale guys you look at some of those guys that will set an identity set the tone for the defense set the tone on offense a lot of that is still intact and I think it's pretty I I don't think it's lip service when we ask these guys what feels different and they can't say anything right so operationally I think the bones of this look the same it's simply going to be about you know how are they able to prepare Monday through Thursday and how do they execute on Saturday yeah and Max bson would be a guy that would be able to tell you what's different right he understands what this program is he was here around it when his brother Ben played here he's been here now a while entering his fourth season could come back obviously next year for a fifth so he knows this program as well as really anybody in that building especially from a player standpoint um and you're right they seem to have to Rack their brains to talk about what's different and of course they're going to have their own style under shiron Moore we're gonna see what that is this season but the identity really hasn't changed and there's no reason for it to change the last coach didn't get fired they didn't go 4- eight like some teams in the Big 10 did last year they went 15 and0 some of those teams coaches were dismissed for other reasons but well that's true but they went 15 and0 last year yeah they won the National Championship they haven't lost a game since New Year's Eve in 2022 they haven't lost a big 10 regular season game since October of 2021 so why not continue what you have going on if you're Michigan and new assistant coaches a new head coach but a lot of the same guys as Max btis says Steve coua yeah he wasn't here the last two years he was getting valuable experience elsewhere at UMass as a position coach but he was here for three years before that as an analyst and from what we heard obviously he got promoted to senior analyst but he had a big hand in everything so you know guys like that you know Kurt Campbell who's been here for a few uh for a few years now as well understands what this program is all about so you have to feel good about that and defensively you have so many players coming back right it's not going to be all that new you have will Johnson Quinton Johnson mcari pagee um you know Ernest hman the defensive line the elite studs on the defensive line that you have to feel good about too uh Antoine Johnson says please ask one of the Michigan players who are the young guys that are stepping up I feel like we've gotten a little bit of that in every segment so far um I mean you were you were gushing about Cole Sullivan for good five minutes there so we had some good co Sol in talk I might read an article about that yeah that was good stuff uh Jaylen Hoffman a guy that you know we're asking who the next Max breson is that's maybe a guy to watch but um you know as we get guys peppered through we will definitely ask about that um so yeah this is uh it's a good opportunity to do that good opportunity to get out here in front of the people um let's run clowning him on social media lately with that top golf but great to have you here man how I mean let me ask start with this Lamar Morgan your position coach has raved about your attitude your leadership that you've wanted to set up indiv individual meetings with some of the incoming transfers to help them with the Playbook and and understand what Michigan defense is is all about how have you attacked this since unfortunately going on with the injury in the spring like I just told one of the guys over there um at first it was it was hard like watching everybody be able to play football and not being able to do it but um after like talking to a lot of my and people that close to me it was just like I just have to best make the best of what my situation is when I came in as a freshman like we all didn't know the Playbook but I had DJ right that's all the talent I have and I see a lot of talent in the room and I mean it's it's good to have somebody that helps you especially when you're trying to learn something right and then so I just I just want to be able to still be impactful to this team in my own way can't be on the field doing that do you still have the Buffs like are are they in your possession oh so yeah so so from the sophore year I have those ones we have but the legendary photo of you at the press conference it's now your profile pick oh yeah wearing the Buffs after you called against Ohio State you're from Clayton Ohio Great Name by the way um what is that like do you lay in bed at night and think about the fact that you called game against Ohio State and like you called it after the game you said it was the biggest game in college football regular season history or history whatever you want to call it and there was so much at stake we wouldn't be sitting here with that trophy behind us if you didn't do that right you did that what up uh uh I don't really see bad think I probably have a couple times though I watched that I remember like there different looked at like different angles of the play and stuff so it was just it's cool to see everybody cheer about it but I'm G say maybe that night of and then a week later I was like oh snap it was kind of crazy especially being from Ohio and then I just went home this past weekend I saw like a lot of people that I hav't seen and they were just talking about it are you a villain there no they be like I hate Michigan but I'm a fan of you sure how could you not be yeah he's got the BL uh so for you I mean you guys brought in probably in part because of the injury but you guys added a lot of new fa I'm sorry say that one more time I said uh you guys add a lot of new faces in the secondary through the transfer portal I mean now that you're kind of you know you're working on your recovery you're working a bit as well as sort of a coach on the field what's it been like to kind of get those guys up to speed and who stood out to you just in the summer workouts oh it's been pretty good usually in summer workouts we don't meet like that but this year like we had every stuff and go over just the basics of the stuff but the guys that came in are kind of like vets almost so they already kind of know how to go through the Playbook and learn it themselves like they may have questions but it's been pretty good because they kind of they already know what they're doing they know how like West Amir Ricky they about to be it's gonna be real good back Lamar Morgan said hey we got some dep we brought in some guys as you just talked about you know because Rod may not be able to play the first half of the Season obviously you have a long road but I mean is it a goal of yours to get back on the field this year is that something motivating you as you kind of go through this Daily Grind of of getting back 100% it's a goal for sure um I'm not really pushing for it but I want to push for it like if I can like if my knee and the recovery like allows me to do it then I'll do it but if not not then we'll see where my decision is then for sure Mari is the guy coming back on in that you know back end of the secondary at safety what is he bringing do you feel like he's maybe a little overlooked people maybe don't talk about him all the way overlooked a lot of the plays that I made and that he makes we make because of each other like the chemistry like when we when I first got hurt car was like he GNA Miss we we've been playing together for two years and it's a big thing you have chemistry with the safety next sure right because you playing you're kind of playing off you do so it was just like K is a real good player like I mean you see how big 64 he can move with and he hits like K probably one of the hardest he's smart too see what he actually does know football and Q too don't don't on q q gonna be up there too sure how big was it having him come back I mean it was late it was late because especially once I went down it was like it's a big help car is not really out there by anymore right but uh him coming back was a big impact we needed that death for sure to be able to you know do what we did last year because safety kind of I me we're the quarterback of the defense the more depth you have it's it's the more knowledge you can have in the room who are some of the young guys that we haven't seen a ton of that have you know had good off Seasons had good Spring ball into the summer Zeke for sure Zeke gonna impact the team this year and uh you saw a little bit of J M J MC Bros last year but him he gonna come in he gonna come and get his stuff and then Jer bro Jer Hill he gonna be a problem too he really get to play but you'll see you g see all them they going Emer for sure see the truth what does he bring to the table Jer he's he he's long he's fast secretly for sneaky fast like you would think he fast and right he just know how to play Corner raw a raw corner what's it been like working with wink it been great um he brings more of a my dog he know he's so small like especially when I'm sitting there with him it's like a um like we're kind of League already you know he came from the league so he knows how to he's not doing all that mess up be real and then I mean for you I mean a lot of the guys that we talk to say that even with all the change that occurred this off season nothing really feels that different in the building I mean what what's your thoughts on that and you know has Touch of his own it's not really that different at all I mean the past few years we've had a coach Le team I mean and player Le team but we have more of a player Le team but also I mean coach Mo still steps in I mean and and is the coach that he needs to be but it's uh it's kind of the same for real everybody adapts to the culture that we have already and we just push forward you got to take make your circumstance last question who's going to surprise people on this team maybe defense offense whatever you want I mean you mentioned Zeke earlier Jer but anybody El I say Zeke I mean I said not uh khil on offense ory for sure and U trying to think of some other receivers Teo I mean y'all seen the Spurt of Teo y only seen a little bit of what Teo right but uh and then transfer linebacker that's why I forgot to mention desan man man man how good is he bro it was a time I'm coming down before I got hurt I'm coming down from the post and one of our o l tried to come and Reb him bro boom lifted him up off his feet but yeah J Sean gonna be good and I mean we got everybody the same I can't talk so much I can say so is really good I'm not on that scale at all Morgan joining us here there's a couple good golfers actually on I would say I'm in one of the higher tiers but definitely not the best samage Morgan sophomore wide receiver join how's it going good to see man seen samage everywhere I was telling people this summer I have probably seen you more this summer at events like this than close members of my family so I owe them an apology dang well yeah man I've been around I've been around man trying to get to it what kind of year is Sage gonna have Coulson man breakout year you already know that already know that he's going to have a good year you see what he did last year yep I think we got a lot of guys on the team that are going to make make a lot of plays gonna be one of them for sure so what kind of years colon gonna have this season you know you seen the last two years he had man you know he been consistent man and I feel like this year man this year he really gonna separate from everybody else like he already number one but like I feel like ca bro he's just different like he run he run like he me like like when I see him he be running like he me sometimes I be like bro he's smooth bro he's smooth bro like so yeah I see I see I see CA just really separating from everybody else in college this year likewise man likewise but Coulson you look significantly bigger maybe upper body yeah I'm what are you weighing at this point and you know I guess how have you progressed I mean seems like every year you've made these big strides like face looks bigger uh no I appreciate that uh I'm like a little under 250 right now okay yeah feeling feeling in a good spot moving well I'm liking where I'm at uh Coulson I think you know obviously you know you're at the top of the depth chart but so much of what goes into this year you know alongside with you and and Marlin Klein is those young guys that are coming up so you know of that um you know of that group that's you know maybe that next tier below who who do you think has some of the brightest Futures and how do you feel about where this room is at yeah I mean we got a really good tight end room like you said a lot of dudes Marlin Brad uh young guys like Z Marsh uh Brady Hogan I mean Jay Hoff I can name them all but Deacon y uh Deacon's gonna have a big year too uh all all those guys have been doing really good really good Springs really good Summers I'm I'm excited to see how they do in Camp and then I mean yeah I think everyone's just mentally ready ready to play some ball so to watch could you imagine being a Defender and seeing 44 ring to The Off Man any anyone that's in his way is probably going to be on the ground he bring that he bring that he bring that dog I love bro I love he's all about smashing people yeah H him in the face same same identity for this offense than in the past obviously the players gonna be different right you tailored it to what JJ did well last year and Blake and whatever and they'll do that again the coaching staff but is it still going to be that same smash mou mentality you you feel like you guys have kind of been the top of the perch in the Big 10 when it comes to that you guys are the most physical team yeah yeah I think I mean you got to keep that obviously that's Michigan uh we got to be able to run the ball you know every you know all the stats or whatever the most rushing yards we normally win the games no turnovers all that so right we got we got to stay balanced and we will stay balanced uh we're also going to do our thing in the air we got weapons weapons outside teimo Fred I mean it list keep listing more and more but uh all those guys I mean we're we're I think we're we're going to be a really complete team sure yeah so for both of you guys I mean we have what I think a week until fall Camp starts now what does that next week or so look like for you is it I mean obviously a little bit of golf today a little bit of downtime but um you know what's the plan over the next week or so they had a lift this morning too yeah we had a we had a 6 am. this morning but you know the plan sounds terrible you know just what we've been doing you know we just been going through summer workouts you know just you know lifting you know know getting that hard pump but also taking care of our bodies you know you know uh like restoring ourselves and things of that nature you know for myself personally I feel like I'm just like really just want to like rest more just like lay down and chill more because you know like you said you seen me a lot and I do a lot so I just want to like just be able to just lay down and chill yeah like he said we still got another week uh training cycle so we haven't slown down at all but uh yeah I feel like we we've been pretty busy doing a lot of stuff this summer so just kind of chill out this week got my family coming in town this weekend and then yeah hit the ground running when cam comes you guys are gonna have Donovan Edwards kle mullings in the backfield other guys as well Ben Hall Jordan Marshall toi but like specifically Donovan and khle two different skill sets I mean kle looks like he's in great shape obviously Donovan does too we've seen him quite a bit what is you know I guess what does that bring to the offense that you have to is it going to be the thunder and lightning again you know a couple years ago what does it bring of the offense to have those two guys back there I mean youve seen it every time Michigan's had two different backs been successful uh and we even have more backs like you were saying like Ben Hall Jordan Marshall all those guys Toby so I mean we I mean we're super deep at RV position excited to see those boys eat we're just gonna you know any one of them gets tired we got more we got more keep it running I'm excited I feel like you need more depth knowing you could play you can answer that too but go ahead yeah I was yeah I was going to say what you was just saying like I feel like like our team we got a lot of dep you know what I'm saying and I feel like we got a lot of dip because we're young you know I'm saying so like you know and I feel like it's a good thing like that we got two different backs or many different backs because you know like you like a defense get to see a different look you know probably a few plays every drive you know they they might have to adjust you know you know they might get confused they might mess up you know so I feel like that's like I feel like always like feel me a two punch combo like you feel me like not thunder lightning but it's two punches coming yeah you know what I'm saying like they both like maybe kle has a little more lightning than people would think yeah Donovan might have a little more Thunder ther think they can all do it all you know right what's your each of your favorite plays from last season like our favorite play is like either yeah yeah yeah that you were in on H mention I it wasn't a play I made but uh roseb T the touchdown uh to the flat to Roman yeah that was a crazy play great play call the other it was like I Came In Motion came down and we sold run it was just a little slipper to the flat uh that one was gas great play call but my favorite one probably The Natty play made in Natty I wish I would have scored but that probably that one that was huge yeah that was absolutely huge and you had a key block on Donovan's second touchdown run too might be honorable mention Sage you had some electric plays I feel like inane so like like my favorite play from last year that I didn't make I say it was during Michigan State when Mike had caught that pick on the sideline and ran it all the way back I was right there next to him yeah and I yeah I was trying to run with him I was like right there though like look go and that that's like my favorite play and then my my like my favorite play I would say I would say to play against um Indiana when I um ran guy yeah I say that's probably my favorite one because I feel like like that's how I used to play in high school like I used to just you know run real hard you know try to get to the end zone and you know it'll be real hard to get me down and I just feel like that was a real gritty play for me it's on the it's on the screen right now there were like a million Indiana Defenders around you yeah and somehow you I don't know if you can see it but um somehow you I mean it was crazy you just somehow were able to evade all of them um M might have been in the IND there yeah you in the Indiana game scrambled drill one's up there too that has to be yeah there were a lot of good plays you guys were down seven nothing SC 52 straight points thanks to you two guys they was going crazy we was going crazy G so let let me ask you guys this I mean how do you balance so over our shoulder here is that the college football playoff National Title trophy how do you balance you know we're a week from Fall Camp how do you balance kind of putting that where it belongs and still celebrating that at events like this but also knowing that there's work to be done for next year's trophy yeah I feel like we already moved on from uh from last year's uh you know when we had you know we've seen trophy we've seen it all like you said we still celebrating it super cool always be down in in the history books but I mean since after the game we've already been locked in since coach Mor became the head coach we've already been on to the next mission onto the next thing and that's just grinding the offseason doing what we do staying on our p's and q's and then yeah just F focused on where we are right now you know not getting too worried about what we have ahead or what we have what what what what happened in the past we just working on oursel every day every second of the day yeah I mean at this point it's been six and a half months so and you've seen it a billion times but when you see that trophy what what do you feel today when you see that trophy Gotta Get It gotta run it back yeah when I see that trophy today I just I just you know I just get more hungry you know what I'm saying and I just want to do it again Two Is Better Than One Two Is Better Than One that's right do you feel like so complacency is something s we talked about this like a month ago where you guys are trying to guard against that like two's better than one right but there are also a lot of guys on this team that maybe weren't starters samage and they want to get you know you were a huge part of that team but you want to be the starter you want to be one of the main guys Kenneth Grant started five games last year but he didn't start 15 he wants to be you know he was a main guy but he wants to be even more of a main guy in the next team like you feel that hunger shiron Mo wants to win national championship as a head coach uh do you feel that with yeah you guys lost a lot but there are guys that were waiting to to do that oh yeah for sure that's why that's why I have so much confidence in our team like cuz I know like how hungry some of the guys who was waiting last year like everybody like most guys that's like like on our team this year and probably going to play was sitting behind somebody last year so you know it's like it's like a h it's like a hunger factor for our whole team like and I feel like like that's something that our coaches do a good job with like they all like they never let us like just be happy with what we did or like you know what I'm saying or like like we can celebrate we can be happy about what like you know the accomplishment we did but at the end of the day we know that it's always still more to work for and our coaches do a real good job of always keeping us levelheaded and like keeping us in reality because it's real easy to getent after winning the national championship and you know we really don't want to fall into that so you know that's why our coaches you know stay on our head about that and you know we real good you know we like keep going in that you know what I'm saying we we we're real consistent in we're real consistent in what everyone you talk to talks about how big fall Camp is going to be for the Michigan quarterback room for the Michigan off as Jack Tuttle said earlier on the show if you missed that part you can go back and watch you know Ball Camp is going to be when they learn a lot about what this offense is going to be what this team is going to be Max bredeson said you know you forged the team during fall Camp he's a fall Camp guy for sure uh Bry so fall Camp Superstar I mean it's only a month but there's so much riding on it's almost more than a month because you get so much done they're focused on football 247 during the the month of August it'll start off on July 31st so um you know they're going to get a lot done they're going to know a lot about these quarterbacks and as Chiron said on interview after Spring ball you know probably at the latest a week before the first game against Fresno State so that'd be August 24th leading into the 31st they'll know what they're going to go with um and they'll have three four weeks before that to figure it out uh and and they may know earlier than that too so well and there's knowing that this is you know the DNA of a Jim harbro program is still very much here this could be something that goes into the first couple weeks of the Season like we don't know that um you know again moose goes on to say they don't know who qb1 is that's not good it's July 20 July 23rd right so you know if we just go by virtue of just move everyone up from the depth chart last year you know that would mean last year Jack Tuttle is qb2 um Alex orgy is that next guy Davis Warren was that next guy I assume you know we don't know how the depth chart looked in Spring ball because Tuttle didn't really participate I I assume at least to start everyone just gets moved up one peg and then they compete and we see what happens so um I agree I'm not worrying about that on July 23rd again it's one of those things that registers to me and we've talked about this a million times at this point it's a question mark not ready to call it a concern but of the question marks that this team has I think it's the closest thing to a concern but on July 23rd without the virtue of fall Camp starting Intel there we're still you know well over a month away from games I think 40 days to kick off at this point um yeah I mean it's a QB battle this isn't you know and I know the old adages if you have multiple QBs you don't have one JJ McCarthy and Kate mcamera were two starting QBs that battled for the job and W you know obviously it played out to its completion so um well you're right I I think that there's some uneasiness because of the uncertainty right of not knowing who it's going to be in years past you kind of had an idea or at least two guys that you had seen in games and and that you figured um you know would have you know that had experience and you figur could play at a really high level I haven't had that as much we're getting Chiron more here set Chone good to see Sherrone Moore Interview you how's it going thanks for giving us a few minutes today we'll start by this I mean uh are you golfing today how how you feeling about it I'm going to I'm going to swing and see if I can uh don't really call it golfing we'll see what happens I just started so we'll find out just going ready to have fun I was going to say as a head coach you probably have to do a few more golf outings a year is that yeah I haven't had to do much it's been more of uh you know meet and greets and hang out but I'm sure they'll they'll come arise and there'll be more so as we go through so excited to get better at it there's a rumor you've taken a couple lessons no lessons I just went to the driving range the other day and hit some balls so we'll see what happens I love it why is Champion Circle important for your football program will Johnson said in the spring hey it was one of the main reasons why we were able to keep everybody happy keep you know people coming back to this program so was the strong culture that you were such a big part of building here at Michigan but this event other events Champion Circle in general what what makes it kind of the special group that that helps you guys I think the the college football landscape has just changed so much that you need to have the resources to support your student athletes uh financially and from other avenues that we haven't ever had to do before so they've just done such an unbelievable job of raising the funds to help our student athletes and you know get things the things that they deserve so uh they've been important to us they've been a great you know backbone for our program helping us keep those guys and continue to build the future of the program some donor may be able to run out touch the banner with you guys how cool is that pretty awesome a it that's awesome are you going to be touching the banner as the head coach no you just go under no I go under yeah I uh I touched it for the first time my first time running out the banner okay at the tunnel against I think it was Western Michigan my first year yeah that makesense and that was it and after that I was like yeah I felt like something could get pulled so I'm good on that yeah it is high so uh Shon how's the summer been for you we talked to you at the Wayne State Camp I mean since then I know um can't go into specifics but a lot of momentum on the recruiting Trail just does it feel just more like hitting your stride in the role yeah I mean everybody the the coaches and the new players everybody's not getting comfortable but they're getting adjusted to what the culture is and they're getting adjusted to how we do things so I think for us anytime you you start to adjust to things and you can make those adjustment it it it's it's huge for you it's huge for the program huge for the players and the coaches and every guy we talk to so we ask ask Max breson who by the way I keep saying it one of the most overlooked guys in college football right when fors is coming at you and you're Defender not a good thing necessarily but you know Anthony asked hey what's different under Chiron Moore and he he sat there for a few seconds he's like I the thing is I can't think of these things now of course you guys will have your own style you got you're different than Jim harva of course but you guys went 15 and0 last year the last guy didn't get fired you're not coming into that situation how has it been trying to continue that with these guys and a lot of the same guys are here too around you yeah I mean for me it's really been about the players yeah the players the players the players and the team like I haven't you know people ask like what stamp am I going to put on it I'm like it's not it's not about me it's about the kids so what stamp do they put on it it's really what it's going to be all about not about what I do so what kind of piggybacking off that I mean when you guys you know a lot of people the storylines have been about what you guys lost but in terms of the player leadership that you still have does it feel just like a grab the Baton and we're still on the same page type of thing yeah I mean these guys have been so aligned attacking everything it seemed like a seamless transition because the leaders have done such a really good job of taking that baton and really just leading the team and keeping everybody align so it's awesome to see it's awesome to watch and I'm just super excited for start camp we have a question in the chat from one of our uh one of our viewers here uh Ferris Khan says ask shiron what smash means to him and where where does that come from uh it started in I can tell you exactly it started in the Washington game in 20 21 and we're playing at night it's a maze out uh we're rocking all blue and we're starting to run the ball I'm seeing the guys just this mentality this physicality and I just kind of blacked out a little bit I just started saying Smash and that kind of became the Monstra of the room and kind of grew to the team it it just means a violet mentality that you're not going to stop until the other team submits and Taps out and that's and that's what we want to be regardless of it's offense defense running the ball throwing the ball uh playing coverage blitzing whatever we're doing we're playing all out and we're not going to stop uh Lamar Morgan is raved about how Rod has attacked this offseason after getting hurt where he's setting up meetings with different transfers to watch film for him yeah with them and and show them what Michigan defense is all about and you know he said hey it it was hard at first seeing the other guys out there but then he you know he decided to just keep doing what he's doing as as a leader in the role that he can at this current time how special is that to have guys like that I mean it just talks about the culture of the team and and Rod is an elite person an elite player I mean you can't say anything bad about the kid he just does everything the right way um goes to class gets great grades great on the football field great in the community great with the players great leaders so I mean it doesn't surprise me uh he's just he's just unbelievable what's what's wink Martell been like I know we heard about his music and the style he's brought and obviously you wanted to keep the defensive system in attack he's one of the guys that has built this system so from that sense it seems like a fantastic player and every player seems to love him what is he going to to do to this defense how is he going to lead this defense yeah he's just going to put his own stamp on it you know different things different things that teams haven't seen uh our defense do but still use our player strengths to their to our advantage and make sure that we're in a great position to win so he's a smart coach he's been doing it for a long long time uh understands how to use your players and your strengths and and where your weaknesses are and how to eliminate those deficiencies and how they attack the we weaknesses of Defense so I'm just super excited to watch them develop this defense and build what it's already been built to be uh sea McGee has been an invaluable resource for you guys I mean just uh talk talk to us a little bit about how he's helped you know support you obviously events like this uh are you know his fingerprints are on that as well so uh just what has Shawn McGee brought to your staff I mean he's been unbelievable for me uh as a as a friend as a as a guy to help me in different situations just in Daily you know occurrences you know he's with the Bears for these past couple years and things that he's seen at that level but then just the future and how we got to manage the team for the future uh it's been awesome to have him to lean on and he takes a lot of things off my plate because I know I can trust him because he's he's aligned with my vision and what I want it to look like but at the same time he he challenges me in the things that we need to do to make sure that we're better and uh he's continued to do that in a great way we talked to offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell about this earlier where hey you guys could play 17 games this year yeah the season could go to January 20th in Atlanta um that would push back winter conditioning potentially and Spring ball again and and all that but you know just on this season in general do you feel like you have you know not specifics but maybe more numbers in mind of hey we need this many guys to be able to play we need to we're going to take a cross country flight in the middle of the year I think you have a byee after so um that will help but just a changing landscape at college football do you prepare for that this offseason so that you're ready come week 16 and and you guys are playing and hey somebody's a little banged up but uh you got other guys ready to go yeah for us it's game by game week by week day by day we got to just attack every day you can't think too far into the future and I know the Landscapes change with the different things that's that takes part but we got to make sure we attack today attack tomorrow and just get better and and if you think about too far in in the future you'll you'll Reckoning the present so for us we're going to do everything we can to be better today makes sense I think the last time we talked to him talked to you maybe like a month and a half ago you had talked about how you had chance to kind of step back I think you had a movie night at home or something Have you had more of those moments this summer can you repeat that uh this summer I mean have you had the chance to kind of step back and from the duties a little bit and enjoy time with the family and things like yeah I've had some time to just hang out we got a pool got two little girls and my wife and we just had some time to hang out and uh got to see my mom and dad family which was great but every day I I still urge to see these guys like just watch Don V work out walk out here and they're like my kids I got two kids I got a four-year-old and a two-y home I got a 138 players here and to me every day it's a blessing that I just get to put my feet in the ground and be the head coach here so I don't take every any day for granted so I just make sure I whether it's at home or in the facility it's a great day for me you selected Max predes mcari Paige and Donovan Edwards to join you at a stadium you're very familiar with Lucas Oil down in Indianapolis on Thursday what about those guys um you know made them your pick and feels like also you know we get to talk to Donovan a decent amount and they speak the team language you know right where where they they talk team they talk Michigan football is that a big you know reason why they're down there yeah first they're all seniors because we're you know big on bringing those guys that have been here for four years that have been through the battles been through the grind understanding it um all those guys have done that all high Achievers on the field but all high high Achievers off the field and guys that represent the program in the right way uh but for me it was pretty easy to pick those three those guys are guys that are leaders on the team that just do everything the right way and then we're proud to be Michigan Wolverines all right our viewers will bully us if we don't ask some kind of quarterback question so I will I will try and phrase it in an interesting way the best I can um well I won't tell you who it is so I I figured that' be the case but you know who it is I can't tell you that how many donations to Champion Circle for you to tell us uh a lot I I'll ask you this it's a Fillin the blank the guy that wins Michigan's quarterback job will blank he will take care of the football he will be a team player he'll be a playmaker but he'll put winning first I love that that works you're gonna have Donovan Edwards kle mullings yeah you have bunch of depth in that room too but the two guys Donovan and kle little different skill set how how exciting is that the possibilities for them I know last year Blake was in that mix he had the same yeah you know Core group but now you got these two guys I mean Donovan looks healthy and you know bigger and kle looks you know the same I guess how do you use those two and and make sure that that they stress defenses I mean I think it's going to be a it's going to be a great puzzle to put together right using both those guys and you know we got other guys we got Ben Hall we got Cole Cabana we got this freshman Jordan Marshall we got michah kapana so we've got some really good depth in that room and we're just excited to let it all go use in Fall camping as we go through the season all right we have a question from our chat that says coach who are you looking at at the kick and punt returner spots who are some of the guys we should look at there yeah I mean we just talked about that yesterday so PR Turner obviously samaj Morgan he's Dynamic um Tyler Morris he's Dynamic um you know I think those are the top two guys right now we got guys like Fred Moore we had will Johnson doing it a little bit um Bryson CES a walk-on who has some pretty Dynamic ability that we're excited about so those are some of the guys that we have listed for that for right now west side of the state Bryson c yeah great player in high school at fors Eastern um it when you think about the support you have here yeah and the support like when when you took the job right bunch of texts coming in Taylor lean and all these alums what does it mean to be the Michigan coach and have so many people around you it means everything uh I can't thank everybody enough for the support and I I'm just ready to go I'm ready to hit the ground running ready to continue to work and make sure and make sure we make everybody proud and you know like I tell everybody I I plan on being the head coach here for a long time and I I want to win a lot of games I want to win a lot of football games we I win a lot of championships and there's going to be some adversity at some point but so I just you know ask the fans and the people around to support our players because nobody wants to win more than they do but our job is to win and we want to continue to do that at a high level I asked a couple players this we have the college football playoff trophy over our shoulders and you guys have seen it a billion times at this point this offseason but when you see that trophy today how does that make you feel motivated you know not really satisfied not really happy just because it's happened already and that's the past and we're really focused on the present then those results will take us to the Future Coulson L one said two is better than one that's right good luck we'll see you on they did that I was along for the ride um you covered that I did cover that uh I slept on a $30 air mattress at the Rose bll in Los Angeles yeah um well was better than the I just slept on a lot of homeless on the street outside the hotel than it's all relative there I would have slept on the floor for that game um a lot of homeless so Rico wants to know what are the stakes for the golf and I'm not sure that I know that what are what is on is it Stakes yeah so I don't what says what are the stakes not what are Stakes right um I'm not sure so la so they're going back to a normal format of a regular scramble golf outing where there will be a team that will win in the past it's been an individual winner where they played 13 holes and this is Jim Harbaugh came up with this format then you go to playoffs you if you bogey you move on to the the 15th hole if you par the next hole you move on to the 16th and so on I think birdie are better uh and then whoever does that wins an individual this is a traditional scramble not sure what the stakes are but but you know I would imagine there's some sort of cash prize for a donor but if a player group wins I'm not sure how that works they're getting paid to be here so Kean mhu says if you win you get three throws at Ryan Day in the dunk tank Ryan day is not here Ryan day is an Indianapolis but it's fun to think about that would be awesome that would be awesome in a tank of what I probably shouldn't even probably shouldn't even go down that road but um ran one and three is he oh yeah he's one and three against Michigan he does have one Bonnie thaal we saw Kim Barnes AR Rico earlier Dusty May is supposed to be here one of the Michigan fans favorite individuals on campus at the current moment so this is a full Michigan experience here at the University Michigan golf course and we'll try to talk to Dusty and some of these guys later on I'm sure I don't know that he has any hobbies so I don't know that he golfs so he may be hanging around here when we're done he's a competitive guy though too so I wouldn't clearly some of those you know it's weird I could go and again I'm not even pretending to be anything close to the athlete that these guys are but golf is a humbling game you could practice all summer come out and completely just crack the bed you could roll out of bed and shoot a 70 right like it for some of these guys so I think dust dust I get good like golf vibes from dust Boer rone he does have any he's all basketball all the time and we heard that he told the team in the first team meeting hey I was in boa Raton I had a nice house golf courses all over the beach he's like I focus just on basketball no I'm sure he's played golf in his life but that's the type of guy you're getting with Dusty made no Hobbies basketball Junkie and he won those players over from what we've heard instantly and the guys coming back are excited to play for for the guys coming in are obviously excited to play for him they take one official visit and it seemed like by the day those guys were popping and committing to Michigan towards the end so there's a lot of excitement for Michigan football there's also a ton of excitement for Michigan basketball they're in uh you know summer workouts as well and they'll get going in September with preseason practices first game on November 4th I believe it is so we see the debut of Dusty May and his team later on so there's just a lot to be excited about with Michigan football and basketball there is and if you are someone who is excited for all that again we are here pleas Donovan I was thinking about this on the drive over knowing that we were going to talk to you I know you're I have a feeling you're going to talk about the moment the future and and what's to come this season but you ever think about how you have four five six of the most legendary plays in in Michigan football history you think so I mean the two against Ohio State okay two against Washington okay I mean you don't win either game without those maybe Washington who knows what would have happened you know take away from you I appreciate that I which don't appreciate I don't think about those kind of things you know yeah and it kind of gives me like a a little bit of a pet peeve when you know like people just bring it up to me like oh I love your runs thanks appreciate you what I'm saying but you know I don't I don't I don't it's okay I don't really think about it though I'm not limiting you to those plays at all right but I just think about you you you've done a lot over 2,000 total yards in your career over 00 receiving you could break the oh no don't don't probably not a probably right he's going to break look right into the camer he's going to break the program's record for a running back in receiving yards probably not probably this season yes potentially early on this season we'll see um I don't know the exact number right now 96 ex oh then it's GNA be be you're over 700 so but Donan you've done so much in your career and now you're one of the top faces of the program and the top leader and we talked about this a couple weeks ago with you but just tell the people I guess what the culture is like and what the new leaders the seniors that are now in their fourth year and fifth year what has it been like leading this team uh I don't think that I don't think that we've missed a beat um all of us or most of us who like are now seniors like we were here with Hutch Jay Ross and you know Ronnie Bill and and Mikey you know to where like you know like those guys were tremendous leaders and you know they uphold they upheld our stand and we have been able to see you know like what they've done really really good you know they never really they didn't have any any weaknesses at all so um like just for us like we just want to be able to be able to instill into the young guys like we want you guys to look up to us you know we don't want you guys to be afraid to come talk to us or tell us or call us out if we on any BS like we don't we don't want that at all because it's supposed to be it's supposed to be you know complimentary to each other we're all supposed to be brothers right so it's no hierar there's no seniority or no you know freshman you guys are going to do this no it's not none of that like we're supposed to all be brothers so we're going to be brothers and we're all going to uplift each other and we're all goingon to call each other out because that's what makes this program successful that's why we have won games and that's what and we understand that we're going to continue to do that oh my bad too sorry and it's also our job as well to be able to ins to instill you know like the freshman and the sophomores that are going to become Juniors and seniors uh you know one day you know uh they go three and out by all me congratulations but you know it's our job to be able to instill to them like this is this is how it is this is what it's going to be and this will forever be and that's why we this is why this culture is the way that it is I I joked about a little bit earlier you know seeing you at these events all summer but you know what does the association with Champion Circle and some you know you've done a couple camps um what does that all mean to you and and what drives you to to be so active no doubt um what drives me to be so active is it's just what's in my heart um you know I realize my purpose in life uh my purpose is to be able to spread wisdom uh to spread wisdom and to touch the minds of hearts and to others and you know whatever they do with the seed they could water or they could let it be you know whatever whatever they want it to be but you know uh that's that's just my thing like that's my sole purpose like you know purpose is to play football great know by all means like I'm going to I'm going to go above and beyond every single day to be great but also my my purpose is you know to uphold God's word and his wisdom so ball means that's what I'm going to do every single day and I'm never going to change you know that's a fear of mine to change for other people which I football playoff title trophy is here I know it's been six and a half months but and you're on the eve of fall Camp when you see that trophy today what does that make you feel uh ultimate I think for me just because like how how much of a of an impact last year has made on me uh emotionally and mentally I think for me like I look at it as you know like what I've been through and ultimately what you know like what my class came here to do because we said like we're going to win a National Championship and also the thing too is you know um it's also it's in the past so you know we have to look forward to go winning another one and to upholding our standards to what to what we know that we can do and you know what we're capable are doing to go to go win to uh to you know achieve all of our goals so you I think that that's where we're at we'll let you go cuz they're getting started but you guys wrote in the cement that's right we freshman year we have a picture of it that was in one of
