NCAAF LIVE🔴 Temple Owls vs Oklahoma Sooners | Week 1 Full Game 30th August 2024 College Football 25

welcome to the heart of sooner Nation Gaylord family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium and if you aren't familiar with the saying Boomer Sooner you will be soon enough today we have one of those games that test your focus top 25 team against an unranked opponent can you take care of business as we'll see a the AAC the temple taking on the 14th ranked team in the land the Oklahoma Sooners 4A sports college football I'm Reese Davis joined here in the booth by David Po and Jesse Palmer and guys let's get this thing [Applause] started Temple about to kick it off and get this game [Applause] underway on the run from inside his own five couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 so Oklahoma's offense will get the first swing of the game and there he is a man who makes an entire Stadium hold it breath every time he touches the ball Jesse this defense better have a lot of breath in this game too because he gets better as the game goes on he's the kind of guy David who can wear a defense down and he is the primary focus that's what this def is focused and key in on we got to stop him if we're going to have success [Applause] today the Sooners moving quickly to the [Applause] line he's going to pass fires to the wide out he just missed the Target on that one got put it on his body well the good news is he did a nice job reading the coverage he knew exactly where to go with the football that time just a little bit too much on that pass you wonder if that's just nerves he's got to settle himself down a little bit and the incompletion brings up a second down give to the back only a couple there and now staring at third and eight and offenses want to continue to feature the Run they want balance even if it's not super successful you can take it little bit at a time just to keep that defense honest now facing a third and long to the air it's Arnold quarterback now on the Run still looking at the 40 there he goes Nifty little Scamper on this one enough for the first down and he slides in safely nice job nice way to end that play for the QB he does a really good job scrambling getting the first down and getting down because defensively I'm trying to get a lick anytime I can hit the quarterback that is a [Applause] win coming out on first down with the play fake and it's incomplete if you're going to take a hit like that you might as well hang on to the ball [Applause] after the quarterback and receiver failed to hook up they'll try it again on second down using his legs it's a they get him stopped at the 30 but not before he gets five yard hey five to six yards a pop I don't know if you guys are really good at math but that usually equals a first down every couple carries so don't forget about the Run game keep them honest pound that rock they've worked it down to the 30 this defense Standing Tall trying to force a field goal try quarterback on the keeper just outside the red zone as they pick up the first down they'll spot it at the 22 o I like that play I'd keep running that too because it's obvious the defense right now is really keying in on this running back that was a big point of emphasis for them all week long in practice and it's opening up holes now for the quarterback to [Applause] run the give to the back determined effort to pick up six and get it inside the Red Zone and down to the 16 and a nice job by the running back finding space getting downhill making a good run great job finishing with his pads the Sooners want to crank the [Applause] tempo he'll do it himself he'll get that one all the way down to the four yd line before he stopped well the design QB run is now a staple play in college football and it's because they get more blockers involved and when you got athletes like this playing the quarterback position it's a no-brainer just let him go do work you saw on that play and the Sooners trying to cash it in on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the Run he steps and powers and works his way they finally get him down at the two [Applause] defense rolling out the big bodies to try to stuff the Run po forward and to the end zone he goes touchdown sooner the offense goes as he goes so really no surprise in the opening drive they keep feeding him the football he shows you all of his ability on that TV they'll try to attack one more on their score and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game 76 ydd on the drive for the touchdown and finish to deal with the short touchdown run from the two kickoff team is on the field they'll try to drive this one [Applause] deep and he takes this from inside the five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 the owls offense will try to get something going with their first possession as we take a look at our impact players for this game David what do you look for to make an impact from your leaders your leaders not only have to lead the football team but they got to step up and make plays on the field keep everybody calm these guys typically do a really good job of it yeah David and they also generally set the tone for their respective football teams regardless of which side of the ball they play on the teammates look towards them to step up in big games like this you can barely hear yourself thinking here as they're trying to get this def off to a good start Smith takes the hand off gets it out to the 20 after a pick up of four the owls in the hurry up looking down field it's Ro getting some heat and they get to the quarterback and knock him down back at the 16 and a great job by the defense dropping in zone coverage all eyes on the quarterback taking away the options and then the finally the pass rush gets home gets him on the ground tempo up to punt it away he's going to try to flip the field with this [Applause] one looking for a block it's Bo really good job by the coverage team to make the stuff and that's where they'll put it in play now the Oklahoma offense will go back to work if you like oldfashioned grinded up run over on football that last touchdown Drive was for you Jesse that was impressive man great blocking up front and tough physical running by these ball carriers though and now you wonder how the defense responds like are they going to get way more aggressive to try to stop the run I got to do something to break the rhythm of that running game the offense in hurry up mode they'll run it out of the shotgun just making a play getting it to the 23 yd line it'll be down there's always been a lot of Flash and Sizzle to the Oklahoma offense but it's built on being tough yeah and especially the great teams the great teams that you think about in Oklahoma past the ones that were in the national championship or in the playoff those are teams that could run the football be physical it all started there they move the tight end all over they're getting this guy lathered up they're there to stop him at the 21 for a pick up of two and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs after picking up a couple it's second and eight from the shotgun the inside get they'll give him maybe one on the play it's down to the 20 here they come facing third and long from the 20 to the air it's Arnold fires deep toward the end zone it falls incomplete he was trying to find his man for six yeah third and short that choose not to run throw the football and I think a lot of that has to do with they know they're in field goal range they can take the three points on the board it's wise not to be too greedy and they'll go ahead and send out the field goal unit he'll line it up from the right side a 37 y coming up splits the uprights good and that will extend their lead even further [Applause] after putting up a three spot the kickoff unit set to [Applause] go he'll bring it out it's Jones rolling the dice to bring it out of the end zone did not work out as he stopped at the 13 Temple takes over and the offense will return to the field from the gun running back gets to not much there they'll give him one to the 14 Run game is good balance is good now listen if the Run game isn't good then you got to pass the football a little bit more but sometimes you got to keep him honest take them chunk by chunk and the owls headed quickly to the line wants to fire on second down finds his tight end they able to get him stopped just shy of the first down marker well you hear all the time that the tight end's the QB's best friend you saw a perfect example of it on that last play right second down you need to pick up some positive yards to keep this third down manageable really nice job of executing that Here Comes This Home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down to the ground to try to pick up the first he is tackled but it'll be a fresh set of downs yeah third and one you know what time it is it's about the big boys up front you got to give me a little bit of space a little crack you just can't give up that penetration so my running back can fall forward just like that and get the first down change are set and Temple has it with another first and 10 might as well give it to him again good solid run on that one as he gets it up to the 33 yd line well it's plays like that that will help this offense stay in Rhythm all game long if you can have that kind of success on first down running the football it just opens up your entire Playbook moving forward that kind of pick up on first down and you can take a shot here on second and short from the shot gun the hand off to the back works his way to the 38 after gaining five well the defense knew coming into this one it was going to be a physical game guys are going to have to be great at the point of attack and get off blocks and make tackles it couldn't stop the offense from picking up that first down on that one play this Temple offense putting together a nice drive they'll give it to the back he's knocked down in the back Back Field he'll lose a couple so first down didn't exactly go according to plan let's see what they can dial up on second down reys I got him right where I want okay I'm going to throw the football now I can get back in shotgun forget the running game stuff we're going to play a little pitch and catch and see how good that secondary is the give to the back he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a Los of three yeah they're just going to need more push up front there was nowhere for that running back to go the offensive line got moved right back into his lap and as a result they lose yards on that seventh play of the drive coming up but a long way to go on third down he's looking downfield to throw under heavy pressure lets it Fly and that one's incomplete they weren't just trying to move the chains they were trying to move the scoreboard instead it's fourth down and that's a play on third down this offense just has to do a better job protecting their quarterback give them a split second more time to complete that throw but they couldn't do it there Tempo lining up to pun it away a fairly distance here toward the sidelines not his best work guys we'll get another look at this Oklahoma offense they kicked a field goal on the last Drive Jesse they've got the lead don't make a dumb mistake but maintain your aggressive play calling yeah no doubt I think it's the play caller right now just taking a look at that script he's got in front of him and finding out where are my Playmakers who can we take advantage of on this defense to get a touchdown here bab yeah and just keep moving the ball down the field just execute a little bit better in the Red Zone there's no need to panic we're moving the football and we got the lead to throw it's Arnold fires to the tight end coaches talk about running with violence running with bad intentions that's what that looks like as he gets it up to the 32 look you can't take away everything right so you give them that and rally and make a solid tackle yeah and a lot of times in zone coverage I like when I can get all the eyes on the quarterback I like when I can see the routes and see him develop in the middle and you could tell they had keys on the tight end he wasn't going anywhere after he caught that football on Third and long he has to throw for it a little screen to the r back slips one guy now he's loose they finally get him stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some lanes for their running [Applause] back the Sooners come to the line in the hurry [Applause] up they will run it from the gun and he'll find enough Running Room to get it just short of Midfield at the 49 solid pick up of four on first down it's second and [Applause] six out of the shotgun go to the ground he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three well that play didn't stand a chance I mean nobody even blocked that guy and he's able to get the tackle for loss they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from [Applause] here on third down he drops to throw he's got an open man lots of green as he gets it to the 31 when you're a playmaker like this guy is your coaches are going to dial up plays intended for you especially on third down that's what you saw in that last play there was no question where the quarterback was going with that football all week long they decided on the biggest Downs of this game we're going to Target our best player and we're going to make sure that he gets looks it doesn't matter what the coverage is and you saw it right there on that play off the play fake on first down to throw fires to the F put it right on him sweet play good pick up and they'll move the change with the first down my goodness this offense has got it roll they might put up a 50 Burger this defense they don't have any answers right now they're going have to figure something out the Sooners will snap it on First and [Applause] 10 here's the hand off and he is stopped immediately by the big defensive lineman great job at contained by this defense and in order to do that the end man on the line of scrimmage defensively has got to be able to set the point and force the football back into traffic and that's exactly what happened there got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 looking to throw it's Arnold they're working that left side they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker we reached a quarter break with Oklahoma on top man that was an impressive and dominant first quarter let's take a look at the stats before we move on [Applause] now the challenge here they've taken a punch but they can't let it get out of hand as we start the second the play action fake pocket starts to collapse and the misconnection on third down there's no substitute for experience and the QB did the right thing there third and short in field goal range can't take a negative PL can't turn it over just throw it away now if you want to kick a field goal you've got that opportunity and they'll send the field goal team back out for the second time tonight right down the boulevard it's good and now the lead is even bigger [Music] so they were able to put up a three spot on that last drive and now the kickoff team out there as they prepare to put boot to Lea here he comes from inside his own five he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 Temple takes over and the owl send the offense back onto the field they'll go to the ground just enough there to get it to the 25 a pick up of two and these defensive tackles just eat people they swallow human beings when you get near them they're so big so strong those guys those running backs coming they just need a mid they put one mid on a running back and he usually falls to the ground just because of their sheer mass and strength wants to throw it's Brock throws to the wide out he makes a catch and the defense makes the immediate tackle but he has enough for the first down and when you get Zone coverage and you're running curls and the wide receiver Sprints off the ball you know what happens that DB starts to bail and that wide receiver comes back and it's easy pitch and catch for the offense Temple lines up quickly leaves it with the back pretty good effort on that one to work his way up to the 42 it's going to be important this offensive line is able to get a little bit of push just got to give this guy an inch a little crease and he can make yards for it halfway there on first down it's second and five the give to the tail back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one they tried to run the C but absolutely nothing do it and those counter plays take a little longer to develop sometimes you're usually pulling one or two guys and that penetration in the back field can kill you can get to the running back before he gets started they've got a good chunk of ground to cover on Third and long from the 41 the snap sets up to throw up the screen and this one will be stopped for No Gain third down man You' think this offense would want to throw it down the field at least past the sticks with this defense and their athleticism and speed they gobbled him up behind the line of scrimmage Tempo lining up to punt it [Applause] away looking for a block it's Bo they'll get down and put a stop to the return at about the 28 yd line so Oklahoma has it again and here comes the offense off the play fake on first down to throw through his hands and incomplete he normally makes that catch every time it's second down man that's one you expect him to make in his sleep right he's one of the better receivers in the entire country he just dropped that one over the middle of the field the incompletion brings up a second down they try to pop a run on the draw and he was able to get away from one tackle but plenty of help was on the way decent pick up on that play this defense has got to get better at tackling in the open field of game tackling because if you need three or four guys to bring a guy down have fun with that will they keep it on the ground again here on third down they'll try to bully their way for the first such a big part to convert these third downs and they've got it at the 42 and that's all you want right you want that first down understand the situation understand I got to get North and South get a first down get a new set of downs and the Sooners are in the hurry up looking downfield it's Arnold receiver looks it in it's complete they make the stop right there good pick up but still short of the first down yeah and that was tough on the DB right he's trying to cover the receiver on a drag route running back over the middle of the field you're trying to avoid all the linebackers all the congestion he just couldn't stay with them long enough and as a result fresh set of downs for the offense they'll keep it on the ground gets it all the way down to the 39 yd line it'll be a first down you know Oklahoma's DNA is being tough they have a whole drill about being tough named after them the Oklahoma drill and they won that one and we've seen that kind of come and go some throughout the years but it started with serious physicality back in the day when they ran the option and just hit you in the mouth but you know football's involved and and that's the one thing about this offense can they keep their physic toer their physic the good Oklahoma teams are physical yeah this coaching staff they're getting this offensive line lathered up and into a rhythm now they're letting them drive off the ball on first down on these running plays and they're getting chunks of yardage they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three movement here from the tight end from the gun the running back has it and he's knocked down but not before moving the chain that's a nice run this guy has it all doesn't he he has speed he has shiftiness and he has power the power reminds me of an old great sooner running back Marcus ji arguably one of the most gifted Runners college football has ever seen a guy that didn't quite pan out at the NFL level because of injuries this dude has it in him though and I'm sure he's reminding a lot of people in the stadium right now of good old Marcus D Powers through the defender nowhere to go and the ball's loose oh looks as if the defense got it speeding down the left side running inside the 20 touchdown ow not content to get the fumble they scored with the fumble the defense striking with a scoop and score touchdown and defense is about getting guys to the football sometimes you just get that hit the BS out more guys swarm into the football great effort scoop that thing up now do some damage with it you always wanted to play offense anyways convert that defensive player offensive player give me that six ling up to add another and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer the scoop and score what a lift it can give to the defense not content to get the ball they wanted to do something with it and they did the kickoff team just about set to go and that defense is eager to get back out there after the scoop and score on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 time for this sooner offense to go back to work he'll keep it himself may not be the most memorable play of the day but it's important as he gets him out to the 25 yd Line This offense is really going to try to keep the defense on their heels in the Run game by doing it with different guys it'll be running backs it'll be quarterbacks they may even try to get receivers involved in the Jet Sweep game reverse game as well but a nice play there dropping back it's Arnold makes the grab on the left and he'll be marked down but he's got enough to move the chains nice completion here to this wide receiver and you're going to see this receiver line up in different spots all over the field all game long defense has got to keep their eye on where this guy is because they know he's a big part of this offensive success the Sooners want to pick up the tempo [Applause] he leaves it with his back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple you see all this movement in football now all the stemming the defensive line they're sliding right before the snap creating confusion for the offensive line then they're moving back and stunting really good job by the defense continue to move continue to stunt continue to get in the back field and make this life hard on this running back back to the ground with the running back defense closed down quickly after a gain of three they'll mark it at the 32 yeah and the running back didn't get much here but you know you clearly want to always establish the tempo run the football be consistent make that defense physically meet the challenge third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a dooy if they can pull it off wants to go up top they've got the screen set up and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one one of the things I love about this defense is they just have such great awareness and they're always communicating they understood the down and distance they knew exactly what they needed to do to make the tackle to force the punt that is so well done the Sooners will send out the punt unit fair catch called for and made Temple takes over and the offense will return to the field they' had to last couple of times they've had it David now trying to put something together bar you know how much I love punters and kickers like you don't want to see them very often those are not guys that we want to see on the field we want to do something else and be a little bit more productive offensively here I think David on this drive the quarterback's just got to settle down a little bit these last few drives looks like he's seen ghost we've seen him Force the football he's missed a couple throws he needs to just take a deep breath and play Within himself [Applause] right back to the well he maybe gets a yard they'll Mark him at the 29 the Run game just has not been working for this offense all game long we saw it on that last play as well just not getting enough push up front on the offensive line they haven't been physical enough didn't get much on first down it's second and nine he'll try to pop the draw cross the 30 to the 35 and that's a gain of six and often times running backs love draw plays because there's less traffic in front of them the offensive line is selling pass the quarterback's selling pass they don't get the hand off until the very last possible second so the D Line's rushed away up field and now it's so much easier for these backs to find their holes and pick their LS back to throw it's Brock he's got his man and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pick up you know you don't see a lot of hitch throws against third down but if you're going to give the receiver access like that the quarterback's going to take it that was just way too easy the owls will hustle to the [Applause] line off play action on first down it's complete to the left this quarterback right now is in a Groove and he's doing a nice job in pre-nap he's reading the coverage and he's getting an idea of where he wants to go with the football that's why the ball's coming out of his hands so quickly that's why he seems like he's in a great Rhythm right now looking to push the pace with the no huddle they'll try the run one step W Two Step squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground man that D tackle is a freak athlete did you see him come out of his stance and beat the offensive lineman getting to the running back catlike quick de Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down from the gun to pass fires to the big fella that's a great play call there guys I love it listen they didn't get the first down but this QB snake on the very next play is going to get it and this drive is going to keep going Tempo lining up to pun it away and the punt will hit at the one just a little too far for them to be able to down it it'll be a touch back and come out to the 20 on the run it's AA into the pile maybe got one he stopped at the 21 didn't get much on first down it's second and nine looking for a man it's Arnold caught and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that nice job defense you always hear people talk about tackling the catch you saw it right there there was nowhere for that receiver to go once he had possession as a result no game they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one on Third and long trying to have a big completion here and this is dropped oh my goodness sometimes you're just too open you don't get a lot of chances like that in games guys take shots down field and when you get open you got to finish the play and the wide out's going to wish he had that one back and the Sooners line up to punt it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away he's got great speed little pressure on the coverage team there and they'll stop him at the 47 yard line Temple takes over and the owl will send the offense back onto the field that last Drive won't go on the Highlight Reel after ending in a punt they'd like to be more productive this time David and I think this offense has to be a little bit more balanced find a little balance between the Run Jesse and working in that pass and I think too David it's just going to take a spark it just takes one play to get this thing ped up and G and the owls want to move quickly wants to throw on second down got his man and good blocking in space out there to give him enough room to pick up the first down we reach the two-minute warning and we have ourselves a ball game and they have a chance to take the lead here before the half it's a first and 10 from the 42 yd line he wants to throw using the back as a receiver on the screen he stopped just a chain length or two away from the first down and sets them up beautifully here def is going to have to be careful not only do they have to worry about this guy running the football but they've got to keep their eye on him when he runs routes too he is a versatile back got some of the work done on first now let's see what they have on second down back to pass it's Brock he's got his man and they make the tackle but he has plenty for the first down good job by the receiver there not to run into coverage but to find a spot that the quarterback could throw him the ball yeah on those types of routes re say if you're looking you're booking so if that's man coverage the receiver staring at the quarterback all the way across the field that time the receiver didn't give the quarterback his eyes so they were on the same page they both knew it was Zone and they executed that perfectly makes the grab it's Morris that had all the makings of bug meet windshield but how about the little corner taking on the big tight end and keeping him from getting the [Applause] first Tempo looking for a tou down from the Red Zone on second down just keeps firing a little time lets it Go makes the catch it's Adams there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer the thing I like about the slot receiver he's really intentional in his route run the quarterback always knows exactly where he's going to be on the field they've got great chemistry to go they turn to the passing game on Third and short pressure all over the quarterback and down he goes at the 24 the defense going to stop the clock with the timeout they want to make sure they have everybody on the same page it's fourth down and they'll try the field goal and he'll need a little distance and to bend just right a 41 y from the left hatch it is perfect [Applause] so they put the field goal on the board and about to kick it away and hoping that'll be the final points of this first half he'll bring it back from inside his SP really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 here come the Sooners ready to go on offense they've got time they've got the lead and David is sort of like a doctor first Do no harm Do no harm but also momentum is hard to create sometimes hard stop you have it so Jesse don't do anything stupid to create some momentum for the other side I think a lot of this comes down to your quarterback and whether or not he's making good decisions in this game if yes be aggressive if not let's just take the lead into halftime and get ready for the second half got it in the middle it's a really good job to pick up a chunk of yardage and get it out to the 39 yd line and a great job by the QB finding the running back getting the football where he can do some damage after the catch and most importantly the first down the offense calls timeout and they won't have any more left this half from the 39 yd line it's first and 10 looking to move it through the air feeling some heat hit hard as he released the ball on that first down pass and it never had a chance quarterbacks need time when they're in the pocket to complete throws that QB had no shot taking that hit just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before half [Applause] time back to pass it's Arnold and a little too much adrenaline on that throw never gave his receiver a chance a third and long coming up here from the gun wants to pass didn't have much of a choice just had to throw that one away it'll be fourth down and offensively we know it's hard throwing the ball in third and long situations because the defense can play Big Zone coverages they got a lot of guys with their eyes on you so the QB had no shot there nobody open nice job not forcing it not risking a turnover just throwing it away the Sooners will call on their punt team you'll call for the fair catch here that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with the halftime update guys you've been calling a lively one from Norman so far talk about a first half from that dude out of the back field he's been a total Game Changer and how many plays moments have we seen on Miss tackles Alone video game moves from one of the shiftiest players in all of college football with that said let's send it back to the guys at Memorial Stadium just about set for the second half [Applause] kickoff he'll bring it back roing for help really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and to stop at the 19 Temple takes over and the offense will return to the field maybe adjustments or attitude or attitude adjustment they've got to find a way to run the ball at least some here in the second half I do think you said something that's important I I think running the football is an attitude like it starts with the offensive lineman and being physical having a nasty attitude running back same thing I think they need more of that in the second half you know and I think then if you're this defense you have an opportunity to make a statement here yeah I know you guys went in at halftime you R yourself up and you told yourself that you think you can run the ball on us on this very first drive we're going to prove to you and the quarterback caugh up to and sacked at the 12 well we've seen this offense struggle early in this game protecting the quarterback they went in at halftime thought they had made the right adjustments but it's not looking like it right now they're still having issues keeping this guy standing up straight up front they're just getting beat across the board they've got them deep in their own end In This Crowd trying to help keep them there on Third and long a check down would be the last resort got it set up on the outside he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down and there you go you see you don't have to throw bombs to get big plays in the passing game just screen it to your running back as soon as he catches it he gets up field and how about the downfield block in by these linemen and the wide receivers as they rip off that explosive play back to throw it's Brock looking to the big tight end got his and perhaps a touchdown saving tackle as they get him down at the 37 and I really like when offenses attack over the middle of the field between the linebackers and the safeties there's usually a soft area that you can usually have success and really nice job by this offense taking advantage of those areas the owls racing to the line in the hurry up wants to throw on first down off the play fake he'll P it down on the run and he'll slide to avoid the big hit yeah I think you're just seeing the experience this guy has right he's so poised that initially he's flushed out of theck nothing's open and he doesn't panic he's not throwing it away he's not sliding early he just knows where the defense isn't and he's able to attack that space with his speed and get a positive play they'll Run play action throws for the tight end and it'll be incomplete this defense is physical and pass deep and the big tight end a lot of times that's a bigger strike zone biger dude and you could tell they put the hit on him and that ball came out and it came to the turf nice job playing physical by this defense this is the type of play that decides games are you tough enough to convert third and short from the 30 catch the middle he knew exactly where he wanted to go with that one and they've got enough for the first down really nice job there by the quarterback understanding that it's Zone coverage on third down you're going to have to find someone working into a soft spot get the ball out of your hands quickly make an accurate throw and pick up the first well done the crowd getting behind this defense as they try to get a stop in the red zone some misdirection with the counter they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one so no room to run there and you wonder after that loss on first down where they turn now yeah and that's why it's so important for the defense to win these first downs right you want to create negative plays to make this offense so much more predictable lost yardage on that last one it's second and 11 looking to pass it's Brock takes the easy completion and that play just never got started as he's right out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage Ball's at the 24 a lot of confidence in their kicker from here but they'd love to take it off of his foot and convert the first [Applause] down get it out on the screen they play that screen nicely he tried to find his way to the marker but it'll be fourth down yeah and you see running backs in today's football they play a wide receiver basically for you but you got to find a guy that you can throw it to and you know he's going to catch the ball consistently and here comes the field goal unit for the second time tonight it's good and it's a deadlock here in the third quarter after the field goal and we're all square as he's set to kick it [Applause] away just into the end zone and he'll bring it out nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 here comes the sooner offense back onto the field David the pter work last time they'd like to keep him on the sidelines in this drive yeah it's not something you want to say very often you don't want the punter out there this offense needs to get back lathered up and get a little bit more of a rhythm best way to do that identify where your best players are and just get them the football give these guys some touches to Kickstart this offense the Sooners moving quickly to the line it's reverse they get him on the ground but not before he gets enough for the first down they've got it at the 37 it's first and 10 they'll leave it with him down in the back field he'll lose a couple defense did a really good job stringing that one out you got to see the counter when you start to pull guys understanding I'm going to spill that ball make sure it bounces outside out wide doesn't come downhill great job by the defense understanding that and pursuing to the football after losing a couple on that last play here's second and 12 he'll bull it on the re Oh What A Move and he broke one tackle on the way to a solid pick up there that's what's so great about these QB runs they just chip away at the defense and as this game goes on these little QB runs they're going to help keep third Downs manageable for this offense third and short from the 44 and we might know if they plan to go for it on fourth down by what they call here they'll try to get the first through the air quick stri he's got first down yardage across the 50 they'll mark it at the 49 these two guys just on the same wavelength they make clutch connections all the time and that's practiced man that's all summer that's all spring just so many hundreds and hundreds and thousands of balls where you know exactly when that guy's going to break you know he's a stud you're going to feed him especially on these third down situations nowhere to run on that when he loses four on the car that linebacker saw the express lane right to the ball carrier and a great job by the defensive line getting some push making them use their resources on him linebacker comes free being to make in the back field for a tackle for a loss they'll ride the running back and leave it with him solid fundamentals on that tackle from this freshman seventh play of the drive coming up but a long way to go on third down and I don't think they got it snap before the play clock ran [Applause] out the delay of game pushes the offense back seventh play of the drive coming up but a long way to go on third down looking to throw and he needs a bunch grabbed behind the line it's Anderson he ended up going backwards on the play and they will not convert that third down now he was not fooled on that one you know a lot of times you want to buy space and you throw this route really when it's off coverage but you could tell the quarterback was up ready to come pounce on that screen and get the tackle for a loss and the Sooners will bring the punt team onto the field he'll bring it back it's right they're able to put a stop to that return right at the 30 yd line first down for this offense from the gun the running back tries to hit the hole they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one most offensive schemes are predicated on first down productivity that will not go down as a productive first down Play No it will not reys give this defense a line credit because they were able to get penetration right off the snap and force a negative play Tempo lines up quickly takes the easy throw in the flat he's brought down solid pick up but a little bit short of the first down I want to get my running backs the ball in space as much as possible and sometimes it doesn't work in the running game but I can throw it to him I can try to create some space out wi dump him the football let him make some catches and see if I can't get some big plays out of better find the earplugged here comes the Bo he backing this defense on third down that play just never had a chance they knock him down for a loss of five man what a spectacular play by that defensive end to come up with the tackle there and you see those guys get off the football so fast most of these guys are 250 to 275 pounds but they get off the ball fast low in the offensive Lem they have no chance to stop those guys as quick and as fast as they are slip through the line coverage team was down there to Corral him they made the Stop and they'll mark it at the 39 here comes the Oklahoma offense leaves it with the back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and defense nowadays they don't look at stats of what is the yards per rush they look at how many negative plays they can create because why now you look at second down man it just became very predictable for this offense nice job the loss on first down after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 looking for a man it's Arnold gets it out fast he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down listen running backs are not just running backs anymore you're going to be a wide receiver in today's football and a great job out of the back field getting him the football letting them get some positive yards some third down conversions tougher than others this one a long one on third down from the 43 from the gun wants to pass grabbed in the middle it's burs he's got first down yardage across the 50 they'll mark it at the 49 well we know this guy is special and because of that his quarterback is looking to him on critical down and because there on that third down there was no question it wouldn't have mattered if he was single covered double covered man Zone that's where he was going with it and the Big Time playmaker outside picks up the first and he's brought down after a nice game I think Jessie and Reese could call offensive plays for any team if they're having this much success on the ground it starts with the ground game right like you can chew up these kind of plays then I can play action ler on and take shots but right now defense has first got to stop the run game that's been chewing him [Applause] up they'll give it to him again able to SC three yard out of that one somehow it's second and seven the Sooners want to crank the tempo using his legs it's Al powerful running as he trucks his way to the 28 it's really frustrating when you get a guy in a spot he's in the hole he's there to do his job and he can't get the guy the that's your job get him on the ground you know especially a guy that's not a huge back you got to make that tackle you can't make it easy on the offense where now they got a a manageable situation quarterback on the keeper an excellent Vision to find Running Room there and make a really good pick up before the defense put a stop to it what do you do now if you're on defense I mean not only do you have to worry about this specific running back on this offense and what he can do to hurt you but you got this quarterback as well it is such a dangerous one-w punch they're going to be giving opposing defenses nightmares down the road they're looking to pass from the Red Zone firing to the right complete that throw and catch gets them down to the six and the defense is running out of answers I love offenses and that are willing to take the easy stuff take those easy throws that are guaranteed to get positive yards yeah I'm going to take big shots down the field too but don't forget it's easier to pick up second and five third and five than it is when we start getting those long yard situations touchdown Oklahoma they take the lead with the six well that's one the defense would like to have back they would have wished the quarterback pitched that football but instead they took the away and made it an easy decision for theing up to T one more onto that lead and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven that touchdown Drive covered 61 yards and he got into the house from the six to finish it almost ready to kick it away after scoring the [Applause] touchdown from inside the 10 yd line he'll bring it back nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 Temple takes over and the owl will send the offense back onto the field trying to find his man on first down whips it out to the back and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short [Applause] gain Tempo lines up quickly power football with the Run knocked down after picking up five out to the 24 it's a nice game but the big theme Here is they just haven't been able to get the Run game going on offense they've been very onedimensional they're just not being physical enough at the point of attack Here Comes This Home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down to the air it's Brock pressure coming got a man in the middle they make the tackle but not before he finishes off this third period with a big Play We reached a quarter break with Oklahoma on top three quarters are in the books time becomes a factor both in trying to hold the lead or cut into it as we take a look at the stats not only is the scoreboard on their side but so too is time as we open the fourth hand off from the gun and he found plenty of Running Room on that one before the defense was finally able to get him down every offense wants to be able to run the ball and be physical especially on first down and you want to create second and short third and short or just get first downs like that run right there this Temple offense putting together a nice drive to the ground he's got it again and a good solid pick up there before the defense knocks him down keep pounding away at this defense and make them play the run if you can get this many a chunk they're going to have to commit more guys to the Box more guys to the run then you open it up for the passing good spot after that seven yd pickup on first down it's second and three he's looking to throw using the quick game and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chains I think really good wide receivers do a good job of making every route kind of look the same you could tell he this looked like a vertical route so if I'm a DB I'm baing all sits that hitch down nice job by the wide receiver creating enough separation to create a positive game off the play fake on first down unloads to the wide out and that incomplete pass caused by the big hit on first down second down coming let's see if they go back to the air on second [Applause] down they go to the ground NOS is ahead to the 30 yd line a pick up of one man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out these fans stepping up to help this defense on third down off the play fake and he just throws away on third down I don't think you can give up on a play like that interesting call here for the head coach too because you need a touchdown now it's Fourth and long you could kick the field goal and cut into the lead but depends on how much you trust your defense right now they may go for this long guys so on fourth down here comes the field goal kicker in a huge spot he's got it showing off that big leg from 47 y out and look obviously you would have to score a touchdown there but you did the important thing kicked a field goal you're now within one possession can your defense get you the football back and can your offense Drive the field and put it in the end zone this is what you practice for let's see if they can go execute fellas after putting up the field goal they're set to kick it [Applause] away and he'll return it and try to get behind his blocker didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 the sooner offense returns to the field and they've got a little bit of a cushion here David if they can add to it on this drive it would be nice and it definitely makes a little bit of a difference no on by more than a field goal obviously Jesse my mindset switches and I know I can't make mistakes yeah and David I don't think they have to reinvent the wheel on offense here what they've been calling has been working just get back to doing what you're good at the Sooners in the hurry up he'll do it himself he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple how about the defensive end understanding football understanding that I got to keep outside contained I'm responsible for the quarterback good job playing his responsibility and how about getting that sucker on the ground he's a pretty good athlete to be able to Corral him tackle him right in the middle of the field and get him to the ground on Third and long try to convert through the air they'll run the screen defense was not fooled by that screen to the back and they'll stop him short of the marker it'll be fourth down looks as we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out and the Sooners will line up to punt it away they may have to pay him overtime he's punting for the fifth time today another punt on the way got to make sure those hammies and glutes all activated don't want any muscle PS from overuse looking for Running Room he'll get it to the 43 yd line before he stopped wasting no throwing on this drive wide open downfield they stop him at the 42 but they're on a roll with a pick up of 15 and a first down and how about the defense how big was that stop forcing the punt getting it back to the offense and all of a sudden you feel the momentum now on their side this offense will snap it from the 42 on First and 10 out of the gun the running back has it that's a really good job by the defense wrapping him up getting him on the ground take away that run game make him one dimensional put him in passing situations really good job by the [Applause] defense picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down leaves it with the running back and he finds Some solid space makes a nice game before the defense is able to stop [Applause] him offense in the hurry up bully ball on Third and short that'll be enough for the first down they mark it down at the 31 yd line man I do not want a guy that will dance I want Square shoulders to the line of scrimmage take the snap secure the football play physical and fall forward nice job by that running back getting the first down and the owls have their offense in high gear from the gun they'll try to impose their running game and a really nice run and pick up there before the defense avoided disaster and stop the really big play man who says you can't run up the middle anymore right everybody thinks I got to make big plays I got to go way out to the left way out to the right way out in space nope right down the middle nice blocking how about the running back you could tell the speed the wheels does a great job getting down the field making a huge rushing play now from inside the Red Zone and the defense a got him at the 27 playaction has a lot to do with selling that fake you could tell defense was not buying it got in the back field got the big play negative play on first down that's what a defense always wants from the shotgun now here's an inside G a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior how about this defense rising to the challenge focal point number one stopping the great running back check how do we do it being physical at the line of scrimmage getting off blocks not missing a lot of tackles they have checked all of those boxes and shut this dude down give to the running back and how about that alertness and that swarming D to keep him from getting the first down so here we are on fourth down and this field goal kicker is going to face all the pressure in the world it's good and that was dead solid perfect and that's massive all the pressure on your defense now you've made the field goal you've got to get the ball back you need one more kick you need and so the defense has to be ready to take the field right now play with intensity play with energy and get it back to the offense quickly so after the last Drive ended with a field goal the kickoff team out there to send it away out of the end zone he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 now the Oklahoma offense will go back to work off the play fake on first down wants to throw and that will be incomplete man that would have been a big hitter if they could have done it at second down coming and that's just a play that you have got to make if you're going to win this game you're not going to get a lot of chances like that you might not get another receiver that open for the rest of the season still at their own 20 after that last incompletion it's second and 10 from the gun running back on the Move stacked up after gaining a couple to the 23 the Sooners headed quickly to the line on third down going up top gets it out quickly he'll make a play on third down he's got enough for the first as they mark it at the 32 boy the defense really needed to get off the field there and they just couldn't do it and it's a fresh set of downs man that hurts when you're trailing late in the ball game you need those stops and you get him to third down you get them to those points now they get the first down you don't have many left you better get aggressive PS it fires to the left they'll get the first down it's spotted on the 49 you know what's interesting at this point of the game with the lead in the fourth quarter the defense is expecting them to run the ball and because they're putting so many guys close to the line of scrimmage they're taking advantage throwing it two straight completions now backto back the Sooners come to the line with a new set of downs going to run it it's a still running at the 40 they've got the defense reeling right now with that big play to the 29 well the defense didn't Blitz they didn't have everybody in gaps and the offensive line took advantage at the point of attack getting some push opening up a hole and the offense ripping off a nice run there now on First and 10 from the 29 they're going to ride this running back at this point of the game the offense has the lead the offensive coordinator knows they want to keep running the football so he's going back he's looking at his playlist and he's saying which runs worked the best for me in this game what can I lean on right here to make sure we win this one after picking up a couple at second and eight off play action caught over the middle it's Burks they make the stop but not before he sets them up with a first and goal from the 10 love the play call offensively because you've got the lead the defense expects you to run the ball you just did it the previous play so there you dial up play action set up an easy throw and you keep the clock TI and this offense not only has a chance to extend the lead on first and goal but they can also drain the clock they'll try to get it in with the Run Relentless tough running gets it down to the four and when the offense can run the football and you can feature a guy like this that will get more yards in his block that you can really depend on hangs on to the football like it makes offense super easy especially down the stretch when you want to eat that clock and you want to possess the football just nice to have that kind of guy to the air it's Arnold got his man quickly touchdown sooner and they add six more to the board with that trip to the house I think the days of running backs just running downhill are out the window you better be able to do this you see The Playmakers slipping out of the back field throw theball hand the rest get the for the he'll try to add another to their lead and he splits the upright and pushes the lead to eight here in the fourth he mared 78 Ys down the field and they CA the drive with a four yd touchdown pass kickoff team has the ball teed up in there out ready to go he'll bring it out it's Joon I know he thinks he can house every return but sometimes you just have to take a knee as he stopped at the 14 Temple takes over and the offense will return to the field guys that last trip a little disappointing having to take the three I think Jesse you see so many offenses talk about getting yards and the tempo and all the stuff they do was a nice job moving the football but they got to get in the in zone this time yeah and I think to do that they just got to be more physical at the point of attack get some push up front they need to be the best running team in this game to win the owls come to the line in the hurry [Applause] up to the ground with the back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple while the offensive line had everybody block accept the defensive end he was able to sneak into the back field and get the tackle for L the Roar of the crowd trying to fuel this defense to keep them pinned in their own end looking to throw it's [Applause] Brock and the third down pass is incomplete and now such a tough situation late in this game you're trailing but now it's fourth in Long like it's one thing if it's Fourth and short this makes it even more difficult you got to have something died up you feel really great about Tempo lining up to punt it away and these guys have been busy sixth punt of the [Applause] day not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch guys we'll get another look at this Oklahoma offense what a good mix of plays keeping that defense off balance last time David and Reese they don't know if it's run or if it's pass they got them right where they wanted this defense doesn't know how to react from getting punched in the mouth on that last drive so in this next Drive David I think you keep running the football because that sets up the play action it sets up the RPO game and then you keep this defense guessing clock continues to run and they'll be happy to wind it all the way down before they snap it they'll try to keep this clock moving on the ground at the 40 there he goes he was loing setting sail and they stop him at the 6yd line these situations are preach so much in college football finishing a game strong understanding circumstances they running the football right at you trying to keep that clock moving get a few first downs and get a w after that huge gain now a chance to cash it in from just outside the [Applause] five dropping back it's Arnold quickly complete and the defense holds firm no pick up at all on that play this offense is going to try and stretch the field vertically and horizontally they did there throwing it to their running back but the defense they were in perfect position to make that play for no game linebackers moving trying to confuse the quarterback after getting nothing it's second and goal from the six the run up the middle trying to find his way to the goal line he's knocked down the Back Field he'll lose a couple defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense if they can get it into the end zone here they can really turn up the heat in this one third and touchdown and they take it in for six more points and you know late in the games offenses sometimes get conservative when they got the lead and they got the ball I love this offense they were Rive they got another score added to the lead now you're trying to Salt this game away lining up to T one more onto that lead and the extra point splits the uprights in the lead balloons to 15 a very efficient five play scoring drive and they finish things off with an eight yd toss for the score about to kick it off after punching it in for the [Applause] touchdown he'll start the return inside his spot really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 temp takes over and the owl will send the offense back onto the field scanning the field it's Brock and he just flat dropped it I think he wanted to run before he secured it man when you go over the middle you got to be willing to take the punishment you're going to get hit a lot of times anyways so you might as well catch the football but his arms starting to look a little bit like Reese Davis when the check comes at Denver after the incompletion looking at second down he's looking to throw he got a hand in there knocks it away incomplete love the competitive nature by the defender on that play that's just a 5050 ball and that Defender swatted it away third and 10 still backed up inside their own 20 this drive hasn't really gotten started from the gun wants to pass he wants a big play here late and they can't hook up on the big play and that brings up a fourth down after that incompletion fourth and long now on your own side of the field you're trailing in the fourth quarter what's your go-to play call here in the passing game where is the matchup that you trust in to come up with a big one to give yourself a chance to stay alive and win this game on fourth down trying to find his man and he's going to be batted down they'll turn it over on Downs line gets set first down looking for room it's AA timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible yeah it's make or break time for this defense now they got to get a stop and if that's bringing more bodies in bringing more beef in they're running the football right up the gut right at you they're not going to throw the football in this situation time to be more physical and get this big stop quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense they'd love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and goal they'll run it trying to drain time off the clock he'll be down at the four yd line after that terrific run and this offense has done a really good job late in this football game man you put a premium on the fourth quarter and maximizing possessions and they've had they've put touchdowns on the board they've done a great job nice last play too keep that momentum going and get out of here with the win and they'll take a knee and watch this clock keep on winding winding it way toward a victory for for [Applause] and the Sooners will kick it off to get us underway on the run from inside his own five and the Return Man is stopped and that'll leave it up to the offense on the next drive so temples will be in a hole thanks to that short return and here's the man they rally around and he has earned that type of respect David you dang right you earn it by doing it and he's done it at such a high level everyone believes in this young man in Palmer there's a reason why you're right David he's been in the big moments and he's won the big games this guy delivers when the game is on the line man when I can run the football like that on first down and create second and inches and stay way ahead of the sticks and and be in a position now where I can throw the football or run I will have a lot of success on the offensive side of the football back to throw it's Brock quick strike complete good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the [Applause] catch this crowd full throat spitting the E drums and letting him know it's going to be a long day fires to the wide out grabbed over the middle it's right a quick tackle made but he's got plenty for the first down it's really tough on offenses when defenses know what you got to do you got to pass the football they're in man coverage how about the receiver understanding where the first down is he smells it he goes and gets it and the owls are in the hurry up wants to throw on first down and this will be incomplete a big hit there forces second down the big tight end tries to make a catch and you can tell extends for the ball but great job by the defender getting in there making the hit dis lodging the football out as the same time as he's going to catch it and the big tight end couldn't hold on to after the misfire it's second down the aerial assault continues makes his connection they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground cover to pick up the first and qu receiver on the same page nice job seeing the Zone understanding the drag route concept easy pitch easy catch Deb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down from the gun wants to pass and he just throws it away that is not what you're looking for on third down fourth down coming up you just got to wonder too guys if the crowd didn't impact the offense playing on the road on the first third down of this football game incomplete the idea here I think just punt it away and see if you can regroup because this environment is hostile fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way and returner will be dragged down so the Oklahoma Sooners offense has the ball for the first time here are our impact players for this game and it goes beyond executing an assignment to make an impact in the game yeah obviously we were talking to both coaching staffs this week and we asked them who needs to step up and play while they immediately pointed to these guys right here they are the key for their respective teams yeah and they don't always show up in the Box Score but these are the guys are the leaders these are the guys getting everybody organized and have to play well for their team to [Applause] succeed setting up for a first and 10 from the 26 [Applause] from the gun the ground game runs ahead and po his way for four y out to the [Applause] 30 after the productive first down play it's second and six the give to the running back from the shotgun stopped after a pick up of four good run to get it out to the 34 and runs like that are like body blows in a boxing match four five sixy gains early turn into 20 30 40 yard gains later they really wear down defenses and they test their physicality the Sooners want to pick up the tempo on Third and short just trying to get for the first down he'll be stopped short picks up one but they're facing fourth and [Applause] one the Sooners decide to PL it away let's see if he can help the coverage team out with this [Applause] one signals for the fair Catch and makes it at the 20 Temple takes over and the will return to the field the run from the shotgun he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple they're trying to run the football there's just nowhere to go for the ball carrier inside he tried to bounce it to the outside that lineer way too fast he met him there to force the TF after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 looking to throw it's Brock coming after him and the quarterback is knocked down back at the 13 and you're seeing the pass rush on the second play of the drive they dial it up look at the speed and athleticism this defense has as they Crow the quarterback for a loss [Applause] listen to this crowd just shaking the GS of this place trying to help their defense on Third and long no secret what he needs here and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down you got to love that on defense one of the most critical statistics out there is how do you play on third down how do you prevent the opponent from keeping drives alive right there tackling the catch you gave up the completion whoop you do set up fourth and long you're going to get the ball back go get some water and celebrate fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way and the coverage team able to make the tackle so Oklahoma has it again and here comes the offense they had to putt it away on their last possession but man what great field position this time I mean this is awesome like last possession didn't go great now you're set up in an opportunity to get some points start thinking about what plays I like Jesse as I cross the there are a lot of offensive coordinators out there David and in this position they like to take a shot right away and try and capitalize on this field position second down coming [Applause] up from the gun they'll try to impose their will and a decent gain there before the defense makes the stop I think they called that knowing they weren't going to hit a home run so why would you call it that well you call it so third down becomes an easier down it's not third and long where I have to pass the football now all options on the table and the Sooners will hustle to the [Applause] line musling ahead on Third and short he'll be stopped short picks up one but they're facing fourth and one the Sooners send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it [Applause] away and they'll keep it away from The Return Man as the punt goes out of bounds Temple takes over and the owl will send the offense back onto the field hand off from the shotgun he picks up maybe a couple before he stopped right at the 30 ydd line picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down dropping back it's Brock oh he makes the catch ripping off a pretty good chunk of yardage they've got it out to the 41 with a first down these guys are called matchup guys they're not the biggest guys on the field but they're going to win short and they're going to catch the ball and they're going to make yards after the catch you can tell those are the type of guys in college football that are starting to get maximized and used a lot more than they were in the past the p and throw off the RPO they make the stop but not before they do their work up top and pick up a first down and a big key on that throw to the slot receiver guys is putting the ball out in front the location of the throw is what helped that guy get extra yards after the catch jar set and Temple has it with another first and 10 looking for a physical attack from the gun and a good solid pick up before the defense Cuts him down I I like it just frustrate the defense get that five to six yards make him honor the Run make them know that you're willing to run the football and run it effectively halfway there on first down it's second and five now the play fake he's going to throw deep right side and it's incomplete going for the massive explosive play instead they're looking at a third down does an outstanding job here on the Deep pass locating the football no Pi able to swat it away pass in complete better find the earplugged here comes the noise backing this defense on third down it's a draw good execution they move the sticks and they've got it at the 33 well that's kind of the advantage of third and medium right is the defense you keep them guessing you could throw it you can run it that time they hand it off and they pick it up and you can see the d drop back a little bit it creates a little bit of space the running back blast through gets the first down Temple lines up quickly they'll ride the hot hand they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one well the most insightful analysis I can come up with on that one is that didn't work back to the drawing board to see if there's something that works a little better soon if I can quote the great re that was very UNG good not a productive first down play lost one on that last one it's second and 11 running back searching for a hole and they try to run inside and there is nowhere to go awesome job up front by this defensive line being so good at the point of attack and eating blocks eating some double teams that allows these linebackers to run free unencumbered and get to the football the eighth play of the drive but a great opportunity for the defense to get off the field to the air it's Brock they're bringing Heat and the defense gets home yipp Kay at the 35 pretty nice as a defense right when you can go nickel put five DBS on the field and not have to Blitz anyone trusting your front four to get the job done on third down and they do it right there getting the sack so they'll send out the field goal unit he's going to reach for a long one a 52 yd [Applause] attempt and the kicker delivers the three ball to finish off the drive and that'll put the first points of the game on the board it's three to nothing so the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away after putting up field goal let's see what the defense can do and he takes this from inside the five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 time for this sooner offense to go back to work the give on the inside they'll wrestle him down just short of the first down I don't even think they're going to bring out the change to measure this one and that would be the definition of first down success putting yourself in a good position it's second and in I can do whatever I want next I can take a shot down the field I can run the football and get a new set of downs like nice first down [Applause] execution out of the gun they give to the back the Sooners get the first down really nice run this guy brings balance to this offense it's not all highflying aerial passing attack too you go back to Adrien Peterson DeMarco Murray samaj perine they always had guys in these spread Up Tempo offenses that have been able to give them balance and force the defense to stay honest that's exactly what this guy brings the sooner offense give to the back good job running tough and behind his p as he gets up to the 38 yd line and the Sooners to move [Applause] quickly they'll run it out of the shotgun One Step W twep squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the [Applause] ground they've got it at the 41 third and short trying to keep the chain moving they'll try to pick it up on the ground and they'll move the chains and get it to the 47 yd line you wonder now on offense have they found something in the Run game finally it's been tough for them to get the Run game going but they picked up a nice gain on that last one let's see if they go back to it the Sooners are on the mo [Applause] out of the gun they'll run it inside and he has a solid gain before the defense bottles him up sixy pickup on first down leaves him with second and [Applause] four after the run run run now to throw just too much juice on that one as he air mails his receiver out of bounds well no doubt that was the primary target the quarterback wanted just not on the same page on that one couldn't find his man last time now they'll have to convert third and four looking downfield it's Arnold unloads it down field and it's slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it that's the one thing this defense takes a lot of Pride on they like tackling the catch and they like being around the ball that time he was in proximity to knock that thing loose nice physical play the Sooners will punt this one away and the will hit at the seven and they can't Coral it it goes into the end zone it'll come out to the 20 trying to start the drive with a pass they're trying to get to it and the quarterback CAU up two and sacked at the 12 nice coverage on the back end great job nothing open right away the QB holds the ball in the pocket and F Rush finally gets home sometimes it's the DBS doing great work sometimes it's the defensive linan winning up [Applause] [Applause] front they've got them deep in their own end In This Crowd trying to help keep them there the give to the back picks his way ahead he'll get five out to the 17 yd line this defense has kept them backed up now one more stop and they can get off the field on Third and long looking down field and he needs a bunch they play that screen nicely he tried to find his way to the marker but it'll be fourth down guys it's temple with the lead here at the end of the quarter we've put one in the books Let's have a look at our game summary they've switched into the field and we're ready to get things started here in the second tempo lining up to PT it away makes a move he'll put a stop to that return as he gets it up to the 41 yd line here come the Sooners ready to go on [Applause] offense he'll keep it himself and I think they'll give him two on that one second and eight coming up they go with the option quarterback keeps it himself and look we've seen this guy on tape guys break these tackles and take it the distance this offense should keep dialing up these option plays don't let that short gain by the QB prevent you from running this scheme in your playbook they'll run it from the gun still on his feet at the 45 and he was Off to the Races finally tripped up at the 36 when you talk about creating big plays in the running game like this this makes the game really easy actually when you got a guy like this that you can hand it to this much speed and elusiveness just hard to bring down in the open field what a big gain for the offense might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again brought down at the 30 yd line it's a gain of six [Applause] and the Sooners racing to the line in the hurry up the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the D trying play action it's complete Tight Windows no problem to grab the tackle and it's first down in the red zone at the 10 and a really good job by the back being very decisive he saw his matchup he went for it he attacked it got the positive gain I would say he's going to find that guy a few more times today the Sooners are moving quickly down the field he'll put the tight end in motion a first down run in the Red Zone brought down at the seven after picking up three defense R up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming they'll run it up the middle here looking for a path to the end zone he pushes his way down to the four as they get closer and closer unsuccessful second down and now I'm immediately thinking and I got a little bit more than I want so one of my pass plays what am I going to get into here offensively to try to have success on third down let's see what the offense dials up on Third and goal to the air it's Arnold it's complete they didn't quite get that route run deep enough to pick up the first down now they've got a fourth and short and I think everybody at home tends to yell at their television set why aren't you getting past the first down marker why did you run your rout short defense did a good job knowing where that was but now fourth down offense has to make a decision now on fourth down they'll try to come away with three split SE uppr it's good and after the three spot guys we're all tied up and we're all square as he set to kick it [Applause] away here he comes from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Temple takes over and the offense will return to the field from the gun the running back looking for room they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one I'll tell you this defensive end not only can he pass rush but he can play the run as well you see him beat the offensive lineman there trying to block him and get in the back field to make that tackle for loss that was impressive Temple lines up quickly they'll give it to the back he locked up and held on to bring him down great job by the defense everybody firing off the ball hitting their guys holding their gaps running to the football nowhere to go Here Comes This Home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down to throw it's Brock trying to get to him and the quarterback goes down at the 11 yd line third and long situation we're bringing extra on the field and we're telling our front guys to pin your ears back and go get the QB and they get the job done Tempo lining up to punt it away three and out and not much choice but to get rid of the [Applause] ball he only needs a of daylight that Nifty return sets up the offense and negates some of the yardage on the punt man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out here comes the sooner offense back onto the field and to settle for the Chip Shot field goal last time Jesse they'd love for this one to pay off bigger yeah it just comes down to execution too did a nice job out in the field stalled a little bit once they got down to the goal line so they just need to be a little bit more crisp here D yeah and listen I think the first part was the most important part you got to put the drive together first to get down there now when we get down there focused on execution and getting six points didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 they move the tight end all over the give to the back runs through the tackle he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple you see this is what great defenses do great defenses warm to the football so when you do miss a tackle it's not the end of the world there's another guy right there to wrap him up great defenses seem like they got 12 guys on the field nice job swarming to the football engulfing the running back on Third and long hoping to throw beyond the sticks and makes the grab in the end zone touch down sooner and I think in the free snap I think both of these guys were on the same page they had a look defensively that let them know we can pitch this thing way down the field I'm going to go run under and make a big play yeah and when I'm the receiver I'm like I'm open right I'm I'm going straight down the field throw me the football I got the speed I can beat this guy you can tell they've done that so much in practice they knew it was second nature and they executed it perfectly now they'll line up for what they is and they knock through the extra point for the 103 lead quick strike offense on that three playay scoring drive and the final 41 y covered by that touchdown strike the kickoff team on the field as they'll send this one away on the move from inside is five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the Temple takes over and the owl will send the offense back onto the field they'll run the RPO and Fire to the right and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few he's just winning that match up in the slot every time and when you put him in the slot Reese he's closer to the quarterback it's an easier throw we can run in we can run out and really take advantage of his versatility on the guy that slot position Temple lines up Qui the playaction fake getting some heat and they get to the quarterback and knock him down back at the 16 well I think one of the biggest reasons why this team is finding themselves in a hole here in the first half is this has been a sack party they can't keep the defense off of their quarterback they haven't been able to get the ball deep down the field throwing it with the consistency they want because they can't keep their quarterback standing up straight looking to throw it's Brock and here's a fumble way behind the line Scoops it up still alive ball deep breath right man you you fumble that thing you cough it up you're like oh I really appreciate you brother I can't tell you how much I thank you because the coaches would have been all over me but Big Time Break for the offense Tempo lining up to punt it away three and out they got stuck in Reverse they hope the punt can bail them out yet another punt on the way got to make sure that hamstring stays loose he's been busy and you make the Stop and that is exactly what you want out of your punt cover unit here comes the Oklahoma offense they took their time out of the gate but now starting to try to take control with this game on here in the second quarter Jesse Yeah and they're playing good complimentary football up to this point but this is a huge opportunity David for them to really create some momentum why and the defense did such a good job keeping them in the game early now holding down there end now get the offense rolling put up some points on the scoreboard and then you can really get dangerous in this ball game after picking up a couple it's second and eight off the boot leg and rolling out he's going to let it go almost intercepted it'll fall incomplete the defense almost came up with a turnover oh and on defense you just got to be able to finish that play that Defender had the football in his hands he's just got to catch it that should have been an interception if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it really nice third down sub defense there that time third and long they're expecting pass and they're mixing up their looks they're trying to change the picture pre- snap to post Snap to confuse the quarterback now forcing the incompletion setting up fourth and for the second time tonight they'll Trot out the field goal kicker this is going to have to be Unleashed from 54 yds out it is good and now the lead is extended a little so after putting three on the board the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away he'll bring it back from inside the spot didn't find any Cree in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Temple takes over and the offense will return to the field the deficit here is just 10 points David So a chance to answer here plenty of time left in this football game no need to panic this offense just has to put a couple Drives together and listen the defense will get this back and get some stop fmer and get you the football back and I think I think here too David you have an opportunity to keep the pressure on the opponent yeah they just went down and scored but you score here and this game still you keep their feet to the fire so an opportunity here to keep applying that pressure catch in the middle it's Clark he gets those chains moving gets it out to the 42 yd line when a defense is in zone coverage Jesse they want to react how do you react to a Howitzer coming out like that one not much you can do because this guy's got a cannon you saw all the eyeballs on defense on that play they were waiting and anticipating that throw but when you've got arm like that it's going to be tough to stop that Cur motion by the back forces the defense to adjust and it's incomplete it was wild high and wide on that [Applause] one after the quarterback and receiver couldn't connect it's second and 10 wants to throw it's Brock and the pass is incomplete thanks to a big hit well it was a good throw it was a good route but it was the hit that forced that [Applause] incompletion Deb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down they want to just keep throwing it unloads to the wide out and they couldn't make the connection on the long shot that's why it's so important for this defense to win first and second down you set up third and Longs like that you can show your exotic looks you can get the pass rush going everybody on the back end expecting throw and that's how you force incompletions and Force fourth Downs Tempo lining up to plan it away they're up to a half dozen kicks today on the return it's Bowen he'll get it to about the 25 before they put a stop to the return the sooner offense returns to the field man how comforting is it to know that even if your offense stalls out a little Jesse that field goal kicker can knock it in from a long way out well he's one of the best in the country re no doubt but this offense would like him and prefer for him to kick an extra point on this drive and to do that David they've got to have more Rhythm on offense yeah create some more Rhythm create some more explosive play and maybe some more balance and listen it's nice to have that weapon and kick long field goals you kick too many field goals you don't get very many W's throws to the wide out snagged in the middle it's burs and it is a chunk play a hug gain on that one the defense brings it to an end linebackers shuffling around trying to keep the quarterback from getting a [Music] read used the play fake now to throw right on the money to the outside he dragged the toe and how about the ball placement only the receiver could get it well he's able to make it easy after that catch and I think his speed is something that just scares DBS to death you think about great Oklahoma receivers recently guys like CD lamb Sterling she Hollywood Brown DBS gave them so much cushion because they were afraid they were going to get run by and I think that's how defenses treat this guy too with his speed and his playmaking ability he scares you to death and that cushion helps him out tremendously and he's able to bounce off one tackle for a solid pick up well not much the defense could do there the defensive end crashed down thinking the running back had it but nice job of the ball handling there by the QB just trying to avoid negative plays continue to put stress on the defense that's what he does there and that's a play this guy can run in his sleep too they rep this over and over and over it's like clockwork for this guy they run the reverse keeps the legs moving he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple it's so easy to let your eyes lie to you to see the ball kind of go the other way what's my assignment my assignment to make sure I can t on the back side great job by the defense not getting fooled playing making the play the Sooners moving quickly to the line he'll pull it on the re they've got it just outside the Red Zone they'll move the change at the 21 I'll tell you the running backs and the quarterbacks in this offense they got to give a lot of their success running the football to this offensive line up front they are getting tremendous push it doesn't matter who has the football who's keeping the football you're just seeing this group up front drive this defense backwards looking for space it's a finally run out of bounds but he has his offense rolling with a first down there's really no secret to it David when this guy's running well this offense is so hard stop it opens up everything and he's having a great day showing you a little bit of everything and this offense has got it rolling on the ground and the Sooners have it with a first and goal quarterback on the keeper and he'll be stopped for No Gain still sitting at the three yd line the offense thought they had a good look to run that play into with the QB but there's just an example of a Defender winning his one-on-one battle and making a tremendous play great effort by that guy second down here and maybe they've got time to get one more snap off before the two-minute warning they got him looking R but they're going to throw it oh goes right through his hands and he will think about that one for a while it'll be third down I love the coverage on defense in the Red Zone everyone's got their eyes on the quarterback and they're flying to the football and you saw that there on the incompletion it's third down now they ought to be able to get off one more play before the two-minute warning looking down field it's Arnold pocket starts to collapse and they get to the quarterback and knock him down back at the 16 and they'll run the field goal unit back out there this kicker has already banged a couple through and he'll try this one from the left pass and 33 yards away right down the boulevard it's good and they'll push that lead out a little further [Applause] [Music] they'll kick it away after putting up a field goal on that last Drive he'll start the return inside the spot he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 Temple takes over and the owl will send the offense back onto the field getting late here in the first half they'll have a chance to make this a one possession game and the offensive play caller here has to really be dialed in it's important down two possessions dve that they're able to score some points and you got to call your best stuff in this two-minute situation and such a good opportunity to cut into a onore game create that momentum get some good juices going for the second half because obviously you know you built yourself a little bit of a deficit you need some good things to happen and it needs to happen on this possession quickly out to the tight end and he'll step across the sidelines after making a good gain on that one well nice completion there finding the tight end and what's so beautiful about that is while they didn't get the first they were able to pick up enough yards now to make the third down manageable really putting this offense in a good position better find the earplugs here comes the noise backing this defense on third down dropping back it's Brock unloads it left he's got it he's R out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down well I think on that play you saw why this guy's such a big weapon in this offense at receiver he does such a nice job with his routes he's patient and he's consistent and he good hands you don't see him put a lot of balls on the ground nice job there picking up the first down they keep attacking through the air caught near the sideline it's Morris and he goes out of bounds after coming up with positive yardage there well this tight end he's got size and he's got some athleticism and he's very difficult to cover oneon-one defense is going to have their hands full with him today now on second down he's looking to throw gets it out fast and good coverage by the defense just a short game that's a bang bang play three step slant they rep this over and over in practice so they can go out and execute it on game day like that they'll hurry to the line here to try to get off that third down play they'll try to pick up the first through the air caught near the sticks it's Smith there to make the tackle but the big throw is good enough to give them a first down shotgun fundamentals are so key he was like a short stop caught the shotgun snap and right away rifled it out of his hands like he was turning two that was beautiful finally this offense starting to show a little juice they've got a first and [Applause] 10 got it in the middle it's Adams and he picks up a first down that is not flag on the play is just lingerie on the deck after that move well the defense did a nice job taking everything away down the field but once the drag route was caught they just couldn't rally to the ball carrier in time to make a tackle and as a result new set of downs from the Red Zone he's going to throw it and he dropped it just didn't look the thing all the way in just got to finish the play for the wide receiver you got to look that one in and complete it it's a bad drop tune in to the oo eighth play of the drive coming up back to throw it's Brock and he'll make the grab along the sideline but he's not able to get to the first down Mark and the wide receivers have to understand what part of the field they're on I got to make sure I have enough space when I run those out routes that when I break I can catch the football try to get up field get a few more yards he runs out of space but he got the catch and got some positive Lage on Third and short they'll try to throw for it and the pressure gets there and down he goes at the 18 goodness gracious this is a Master Class A clinic on how to get to the quarterback the seventh sack of the game are you kidding me that's a season for some teams they've lived in the back field and they'll send the field goal team back out for the second time tonight and he'll try to make it two for two this time from 35 yd away it is true as he puts three on the board and the field goal to end the half takes us to we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connor in our halftime update guys you've been calling a lively one from Norman so far and we have to start this halftime breakdown by addressing the play of this Elite wide receiver this is clearly a young man who once he's finished playing on Saturdays he's going to be playing on Sundays the kid has different gears he has a knack for finding gaps in the defense and I can't remember a college player with that kind of catch radius and with that let's head back to Oklahoma and Memorial Stadium Temple will try to boot this one deep to get the second half [Applause] underway he'll return it not nearly as much as he had hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 now the Oklahoma offense will go back to work they'll run the RPO and throw it right put it right on him sweet a good pick up and they'll move the chains with the first down just the ability to move the chains keep the drive going sort of quintessential efficiency from a sooner quarterback yeah and from a sooner offense because Reese they keep the drive going but what does that do most Oklahoma teams over the years we see them go fast and they see and they wear you down throughout a football game so the quarterback play on those completions that move the sticks that make you play three more plays four more plays five more plays you out they stop him just a link or two short of the first and man what they can do on second down here the Sooners want to crank the tempo On The Run it's AA got room they wrestle him to the ground but he's got plenty for a first down well no surprise I mean with the way they're running the ball early in this game they're just going to keep doing it and they're just not hammering out two three four y gains they're gashing this defense you saw it right there the Sooners will snap it on First and 10 used the play fake now to throw he's got it brought down to the ground but he hasn't up for the first down it's a really nice job making the play you think about all the success they've had with Baker Mayfield and Jaylen Herz and Kyler Murray in recent years but a big reason why those guys had success was they had big time players on the perimeter getting open and making plays too it wasn't just all the quarterback position they brought in some big time recruits from high school at the receiver spot this guy is no different he has a chance to be the next great sooner receiver he's got an open man makes the grab defense right there and they are set up at the 14 when you get manto man coverage and you're running that curl I got to sell him deep I got to get a little bit of space where I can make him think I'm running deep running deep and then I sit down real quick QB wide receiver on the same page first down inside the 15 first and 10 from the 14 he'll do it himself got enough space touchdown Oklahoma and they add more to the bo with that trip to the house and these design QB runs man they really test the physicality of this defense knowing this quarterback's going to Tote The Rock they know that there's now an extra block or so somebody on defense is going to have to make a super effort get off a block and make a play they could not get that right P unit on the field and with the extra point they now have a three possession lead at 17 so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they finished it off with a 14y for the score lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive fielded In The End Zone it's Joe he's brought down at the 16 would have been much better off to take the touch back Temple takes over and the offense will return to the field coming out on first down with the play fake after giving up that score now it's incumbent on this offense to kind of get a back and forth going Jesse in this game they got to put some points on the board obviously a lot of football to go so it's not necessarily Panic time just yet but I'm getting the ball into the hands of my best Playmakers on this drive I hear you Jesse but not panicked on have you seen my defense I mean I'm not trusting them to get a lot of STS so he puts a lot of pressure on this offense finds a soft spot in the middle and oh he was Off to the Races after the catch and they finally dragg him down that receiver found the open space in the zone coverage and as a def honestly you just throw your hands up on that because they covered it pretty well it was just a good play call and really nice execution Tempo lines up [Applause] quickly from the gun they'll give it on the inside and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this no gain land and just a great job by the defense being Stout right that's your job be Stout up front stuff in the Run play make them get in more passing situations but do not let them run the football that's 101 stop the run first they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 looking for a man it's Brock they'll throw it to the back on the screen didn't have much room to run and not a whole lot of help short gain there and still a ground to cover for the first down yeah and you're going to see this offense find different ways to get this running back involved it's not just going to be on handoffs and they're certainly going to line him up in different places and even throw him the football but the screen game is a big part of it too they're trying to get him going there on third down he drops to throw
