Colorado's got all this attention on them right because of Dion and and all the stuff he brings to the table but I was thinking is West Virginia because of this event and and the pat mag show is West Virginia kind of right now at least today the second I I don't want to say the second biggest brand but the second brand who is getting the most media attention on them right now in the Big 12 I find that to be an intriguing conversation what do you guys think uh I mean the pat M shows in Morgantown you've got Fox big new kickoff coming to town tomorrow they're bringing Machine Gun Kelly with them Charles Wesley got godin's been in town he may even be there today you've got former West Virginia players showing up today Duce McBride who's an NBA player is showing up you have Pat White showing up Owen Schmidt showing up Neil Brown and rim Becker gonna be on the Pat McAfee show I mean I Pat mcafe is one of the biggest voices in all of sports right now maybe even in in pop culture in general and him West Virginia now embracing him and welcoming him back with open arms and him holding events in Morgantown that is absolute PR that money can't buy folks and I think it's going to do nothing but help West Virginia's image as far as you know students wanting to come to West Virginia maybe want to enroll in West virin people want to tune into the game maybe even and see hey I may not know much about West vir but I know who Pat magae is and he he talks a lot about them so let me see what the Mountaineers are all about and I I think it's awesome for for the program for the school uh for the city of Morgantown and and for the fan base man it's awesome that this current Administration is now in ring our former players much better than some past ones did the pat Maga now feels welcome back in Morgantown again and man I just uh I think it's awesome like I said outside of Colorado I feel like West Virginia may be the second program that's kind of number two on that list in Big 12 as far as how much uh outside media not not just you know Sports Media or Big 12 media but just media in general and attention that's going to their program I think it's really cool all right uh let me see why I thought 16 yeah turn 18 on the 12th of September okay all right September birthday too really yeah 23rd oh like everyone know a September birthday I'm a I'm a little bit older than you though but yeah I'm I'll be 44 on my birthday wow I'm an old man not luck 44 well thank you I appreciate that if I grew my hair out on top I would look 44 I'd I'd look probably 54 but anyway um I've got I've got daughters you're about your age man I I got one that's about a year older than you and I've got one that's a couple years younger than you so I've got teenagers in my house so uh that's awesome so know uh I have some some business colleagues who who's the kids went to Robert seabird so really y I definitely liked it a lot lot more than wi so yeah Browns and beers just made a great point we play updates what's the uh Facebook what's their name on Facebook what's your Facebook name um golden archer golden archer and then I'm what's Mom's Tammy jagy and then my mom's is Tammy jaggy J A GG i e j a GG okay all right I'm typing that in the chat box as we speak okay all for all right so I don't know if you feel comfortable talking about it do you want to tell the folks kind of what it is you're going through right now and and uh you know so when was it 2020 when all this happened 202 so 2022 I went to a trampoline park with a couple of my friends up here in Morgantown and I was playing dodgeball and I threw a dodgeball and my right arm my humorous bone completely snapped in half and I went to I came here to WV Vu and they found a tumor that was in my arm and I had to get surgery and when did I start treatment do you remember it was in December 2022 and I started all my treatment in December and then I got done osteosarcoma was what the type cancer it was okay and I got done with that and then it showed up in my rib and I had to go again through treatment which is what I'm going through now but it went from my rib to my lungs and I have like a couple other bony spots that aren't too big so we're not super worried about them we're just keeping a close eye on them but that's what I'm finishing up right now and I go on my make a wish this Sunday to Hawaii for a week wow awesome and then when I come back from that I'll have one more round to chemo and then I'll do a maintenance chemo and I'll be done because it's not coming back that'll be a great day brother I'll wait you gonna get to ring the bell and the whole bit hold bit when you're done um so I haven't decided if I'm gonna do that again I got I've done it I did it the first time but they told me if I wanted to do it again I could so I got to decide I got you all right that's I'm not too sure yeah well that's cool man I tell you uh I admire you and your courage and and you know the battle you're going through and the way you're dealing with it I mean you seem to be facing it head on with courage and and confidence and positive attitude man we can all learn from you young man I can tell you oh yeah there are people my age or older that don't have the same courage you have right now so I admire you for that thank you getage I don't let none of it bother me I'm just sick and tired of doing it all so I'm ready to be done I understand man I understand and we're ready for you to be done that's why we're doing this today to try to help you out and help your family out I know as a parent myself but he and he was also you know rip to Golden blue dude he was Al golden blue dude's producer I guess you could call it okay yeah before he passed and so yeah Joey's very active in the YouTube community so he's always promoting other other especially West Virginia YouTubers but other YouTubers as well yeah awesome thank you Joey I appreciate it um but yeah let's let's dive into the to the West Virginia football let's go dive in first off what are your thoughts on I said before you came on before Landon came on I think West Virginia right now maybe maybe I'm wrong uh because I'm looking at it you know from from the West Virginia angle but it outside of Colorado West Virginia is kind of the hot item right now right I mean Pat Maga shows coming to town you got all this me big noon kickoff coming to town it's pretty cool it's it's fun it's a fun time to be a mountainer fan right now and that's something we haven't been able to say in you know maybe six years right since yeah uh you know hogers since last year when we had all that hype with Will Greer and everything um yeah I I I kind of like it but also it kind of makes me nervous because you know as lifelong fans right when we it seems like we're going to turn that corner the rug gets pulled out from under us a little bit um but but the excitement you know I talked about yesterday we did our Mountaineer round table and I had my podcast you I used to live in Morgantown and I I absolutely Miss days like this uh being in Morgantown and just a normal kickoff is there's a lot of electricity a lot of Buzz you know cuz football's back right now you're putting a number eight the top 10 team an old rival coming into town in Penn State right you got big noon kickoff which you know if if people aren't familiar that's basically Fox's game college game day like ESPN has and so Pat McAfee coming into town and I I I can just imagine the electricity is probably just cranked up you know times 10 than what it normally would be and so I I think it's I like getting a lot of this attention for WW it's something we've lacked for a while but I got to give Neil Brown a lot of credit for this I mean these more so than ever this is his team there are no holdovers you know he only had one last year but more so than any all the coaches all the players this is all him and picked absolutely and that's what's generating this kind of electricity of course you know someone like Pat mcafe helps you know being such a I call him a huge megaphone for for WVU with a a national show and everything but you know Garrett green has kind of been you could say he was underrated but but coming into it I think people are starting to see that he actually is a very electric player yep and and I know people harp on this 53% you know his completion percentage well if you look at Aller from last year his was 59% so I mean it wasn't like he was off the charts and and I and I think that PFF loves Garrett green because they they pick apart these garbage yards and this this you know you think about Penn State last year we gave up that big 70 yard touchdown early well that was a a missed Tackle by auy Burks right so that was a 70 yard touchdown well 50 of it was the wide receiver you know the pass was only about 20 yards but Aller gets credit for it and I think with PFF they break that stuff apart and they realized that Garr green can put the ball on the money when he needs to especially deep and he he makes big throws and he avoids turnovers so I mean those are the two biggest things that you need as a quarterback is is putting the ball where it needs to be and avoiding turning the ball over yeah perfect and and Jared Hill made a great comment here regarding that you know Garrett was Neil's first recruit as my understanding yeah he was Jared says Neil's first recruit might prove to be his most important to his legacy in the grand scheme of things that is a great comment man yeah I had never thought about it that way right and I think it shows you know a lot of the early on in Neil's career I mean he got a lot of flak that we couldn't develop players right and and now you see his first recruit is is kind of in the Limelight and and we will the light won't be any brighter than it is uh Saturday you maybe on down the line at the Big 12 title or if we're getting a playoff or something like that but for his career this is his biggest game and I feel totally comfortable with Garrett green leading this team you know it's not like a Austin Kendall or a Dy where like well let's see what they do you know these guys play well and this guy helps out you know he we block well I feel completely comfortable with Garrett green leading this offense like and I haven't felt that way probably since you know um thinking guys of like Greer or Gino or you know someone that's just going to take command of it yep agreed but what I like about this group is I feel and look we we won't know until Saturday obviously and maybe even maybe even two Sat three Saturdays from now or two but when they play Kansas because you don't seal a whole lot against the FCS opponents but and Penn State might be you know you know sometimes when you play teams that are this good it's also not a great gauge but right we'll know how good this defense is in a few weeks but I feel like the defense I feel like this defense is going to be better than you know you mentioned the Greer and the Gino a couple of those years now not all of them but a couple of those years we had some pretty porous defenses yeah and I feel like this defense is going to be better than people think that's just me yeah I agree and one of the reasons is we have a lot more depth I think and I think part of it too is I know we lost some on the D line you know I talked about it yesterday uh what Mike Like Mike lockheart James herd and um was it duray those are the three guys we lost you know herd was a freshman but it seemed like he had real potential right and and I know it's hard to to replace that and D line is has bit of big importance for Neil Brown you know both sides of the ball and but I think with this defense is while you're missing some key guys at the defensive line I think overall the depth and the talent is better from top to bottom you know spread out throughout the defense yep and you have guy put on top of that you have a guy like Aubrey Burks who's a potential Pro um you know I don't I don't know where he'll get drafted I I don't know that much but I I definitely see a NFL future with him I believe somewhere um of course you got Trotter now who wasn't there last year he is a from what I understand an NFL prototype yep and he just looks different than everybody else and I don't know if you were there for the spring game uh I got to go to it and he made quite a few plays now I know it's spring it's kind of the it's a glorified practice whatever but you know I I think he'll make a huge impact of course you have lean back you know he broke his leg and he was really coming on and then you had uh is it Bradley yeah who had yeah Tyron Bradley Tyron Bradley had a good game against in the bowl game um I just think you have more Playmakers on defense than you had before and one of the things I talked about that we're going to have to do this year is our turnovers are going to have to increase a lot because I know we'll take care of the ball I I know I don't have any doubt about the offense we we got a stout running game you know Garett green does you know he can run and and avoid sacks and things like that and you know he doesn't turn the ball over so I think we'll be good there but on the other side we got to get our hands on the ball or put the ball on the ground and that was a staple from Neil Brown's defenses back in Troy um you know I I had a episode the other day about that where I looked back and saw what they did when they had those successful years and their turnover margin he averaged was like0 eight for those three years so I mean they're almost turning the ball over or forcing an extra turnover more than the other opponent and we finished last year at point2 so I think that's the the biggest step that we need to take um from any level is we need to create more turnovers and I think that'll take us from like the nine and4 bowl game to possibly being in Dallas at the end of the year yeah I agree and even with this game I said in my preseason prediction show with Jonathan Martin um I think two turn one of the keys of the game for me was turnovers I think West needs to win the turnover battle by about turnover battle by two to be honest with you to try to steal a couple extra possessions from Penn State uh burn clock eat up clock keep that off because you know Penn State's defense is really good it's going to be the best defense wam plays all year I think so in order and even though I have faith in our offense uh that defense is could could be they they could be on the you know in the elite category you know obviously we don't know yet because it's all on paper right now but you know so I'm not sure how many points West is gonna be able to score on them so they need as many possessions as possible yeah we definitely at least have to win the turnover battle sure I mean I think that's just going to be a key to one of the victories and like you said um you know possession of the ball offense we have to be efficient I don't think we can afford to waste plays and you know I did this on the episode the other day and it's just through the first quarter against Penn State last year they scored their first touchdown in four plays now we eventually tied up the game and I forget how many total plays we ran but we had had five extra plays that we had to run because of a missed a missed pass by Garrett green or you know CJ Donaldson ran into the back of Zack Frasier where if he cut a little bit to the right he probably had an open Lane to the end zone and there was a a huge pass to Carter downfield and you know the ball just sailed so high that Carter actually had to wait for it now it was a huge play like 30 yards down field but if he gets it more on the money has less air under it is probably walking into the end zone right so it's it's little things like that that I think the offense has to work on as well and and to be able to to win is just be efficient make the most out of every play and when you see those opportunities I think we have to take advantage of them agreed I mean I've heard you know I've heard Coach Brown talk about winning in the margins they have to win in the margins it's exactly it's just the small things that they need to do you know you look at a program like Kansas State that's how they've always been successful you know Kansas State doesn't have a ton of money they don't get a bunch of fivestar recruits but they very seldom hurt themselves yeah they're fundamentally sound they don't turn it over and they block and tackle right I mean you know what I mean it's just it's they just do the little things right right it's fundamental football yeah and and they've always even with clim now clownman has gotten I mean I'm not saying they never I mean obviously Avery Johnson was a f five star kid I believe or at least four star so they do get some of those kids occasionally but for the most part they're like West Virginia they're having to play what they're having to take third star kids and developed them right yeah and they've been able to do that and they've done it by playing mistake free football and you know a team that doesn't hurt themselves it's hard to beat yeah and I and I brought that up the other day too that um I compared Kansas Kansas State Iowa and Oklahoma state with all the stats I went through those are the big four right really returning um you know they all finished ahead of us last year in the Big 12 we we play them all this year they've they've all had consistent success in like you know the last four or five years and Kansas state was at the top of the league and their turnover margin at one per game so they were they were forcing one turnover more than their opponent every game and that's one of the reasons they're they're doing so well but like you said they do the little things right now the one thing about Neil Brown I like is I know we've had some bad penalties in in weird places like last year with Garrett green taking his helmet off and stuff like that but overall we've been a pretty disciplined team I think we've averaged about 50 yards per game roughly and if you go back and look at his time at Troy they were about the same so it's kind of a staple of his programs right obviously I think the the when you get more of his players in and developed and you know these High character guys that take accountability and work on that stuff that'll show out on the field more so it's something I look I look forward this year to to be the same um you know just to be more disciplined and and hopefully with guys like Garrett green and CJ Donaldson you know they got those Ticky Tac fouls taking their helmet off I'm hoping last year even though we went nine and four and had a good season I hope there was a lot of U Learning experiences right that they can take and move forward and realize that here's the things you can do here's the things you can't do and so that's kind of The Next Step that some of these guys need to take we we know they're talented we know they rack up yards and and make big throws and big plays but now it's those little marginal things that we have to button up um you know if you're going to take it to the next level agreed and I think the I think the uh addition of Drew Fabi onic can't be can't be oh yeah talked about enough yeah you you talked about the length earlier not and that think about the effect that'll have on special teams too you know block more kicks how many kicks did western block last year two three two and bought two in the T yeah two in the TCU game alone yeah one to to win the game basically yeah you know that two years ago they blocked the kick to beat Virginia Tech or help help beat Virginia Tech in blackburg I mean that kind of stuff matters and again length athleticism fundamentals it all comes down to that yeah and I'm glad you brought up Drew because I I think that's just a I think having him is almost like a goal mine for WVU because you know we're not going to recruit the best guys and now with the transfer portal you know a lot of these guys are shifting around and and you know we have a decent pretty good nil fund now with the Country Roads trust right you can pay those players but now with him you can scout guys that maybe are under the radar and not necessarily look at the stars next to their name but how they fit into your scheme and what they're going to do and we've seen with that you know we are bringing in bigger bodies and more length and I think that's you know crucial for any successful team but now you're be now you're able to find them in places you normally wouldn't like we pulled um Garnet Hollis from from Northwestern yep you it's not really a guy that would have been on our radar typically um and so he has a lot of experience we're bringing him in uh bringing him in to replace beanie bishop and you know hopefully he can develop uh just as well as he did and but I have confidence now that I think he's been on the the staff Drew has what a couple years now I think he started or know he started last um a was it yeah July July or August yeah right before the season really yeah so he's kind of had a full year to assess everybody and it's not just recruiting like I think he's assessing the players and knows what they need to do to get to the next level correct and that's priceless if you have that knowledge you can close that Gap to where you need to be to play at the next level then you're just going to be that much better at this level yep agreed um Denny Allen who's a VIP member here he says C's your PFF rating comparison of Penn State and West Virginia's current and incoming players was pretty eye opening yeah it was eye opening to me too Denny as I sat down and done it I didn't expect West Virginia to be that close back to what ear beard said earlier I mean West Virginia lost guys like Mike lockheart and yeah they were I'm not saying they were bad players but when you look at their PFF grades they weren't very good right the guys they brought in graded out much better last year than the guys they lost and then when you compare West Virginia starters to pin States they both average about 70 yeah overall now I I understand I didn't I don't know exactly know what Penn State starting lineup was going to be heck I don't even know West Virginia's fully I'm only going by what I found in my research so P some pen State fans came after me for that they're like this guy's not even a starter I'm like how the heck am I supposed to know they didn't release a depth chart for crying out loud but anyway um that's you that's get used to that because that's going to happen to you too by the way oh but that's part of it right that you know but no you take the B the good right but uh the point being though West Virginia's Talent Gap is not as big as people think at least according to PFF now I know PFF is not the end all Beall some people don't even like it but it's used by it's used by a lot of people in the industry so it must be fairly accurate or people wouldn't be using it so yeah I think it's it's one of those things you know in in the it's not everything but it's something you know what I mean I think it's a it's a bigger piece of the puzzle than what people want want to admit or even realize and you know last year we had some of the returning starters at safety and I kept seeing Aubrey Burks on those lists and that surprised me because I didn't you know I didn't pay that much attention I was like you know is he really that good and of course you know we see last year that yeah he is that good MH and yeah you know he missed some games because because of his concussion um but our but our last secondary coach um can't think of his name he moved off to Troy to be the dcoin Dante rght yep yeah Dante Wright he was talking about you know from day one last year you know Aubrey Burks was was treating this like this is you know this is a contract you know he's he's being a professional and I think that's one of the great things that Neil Brown has brought to this program with his coaches is teach teaching these guys what it means to be professional and play at the next level because if you're already doing that as a sophomore and a junior I mean that that's going to reflect on the field yeah it and I sorry I didn't mean to cut you off but I was say to me I can even see and maybe I'm reading too much into this but when I watch press conferences of players they're intelligent they're mature they're grown men basically whether whether no matter how old they are they are grown men and I think it I think you can look at that and kind of get a feel for the type of people Neil Brown is recruiting like yeah and I'm not saying Dana hogerson was recruiting a bunch of you know uh Knuckleheads yeah knucklehead I couldn't think of the right word but but I'm that's not what I'm trying to say but I just think I don't know I just it just seems different in some there's something different about the the the culture he's building here and I think that's why the in my opinion is on the right right trajectory right now they're definitely what you what I would call High character yeah and you know one of the things he's instilled that I see a lot is is uh accountability and I know that he brings it on himself as well he's talked about it before that you know he's going to tell a player what they need to do he's going to be straight with him and he does that with recruits as well and I think he kind of has this mentality that if you don't want to play here if if you're not going to be committed I don't want you here I'm not going to try to bring in a five-star guy just because you're five star but if you're not committed to what we're doing then you might as well be a three star because you're not gonna get the most out of them and so I think those are the kind of guys that he likes to recruit I think it shows U and like you said in the interviews they they all seem well spoken levelheaded um you know just ready to go and I think they buy into what he has or or what he's been preaching to him and I think they have that accountability they understand that you know the only way they're going to get in the field is if they they follow the plan you know in the off season and things like that and and productivity you know I know they grade these guys out like every day yeah and they keep track I heard balow Marshall talk about it he's like every day these guys know exactly where they stand right I think that's the communication part of that is is key because I don't feel like these kids are being brought in and lured with Promises of this and it doesn't happen like right I think they know where they stand every minut of every day he's a straight shooter absolutely yep well ear beard I know I don't I know how much time you got do you need to get do you need to get back uh oh I probably got a few more minutes okay good that's awesome good uh I I just didn't wantan to I didn't want to mess your day up Brown beer says I've heard PFF is like Wikipedia they'll give their ratings but the larger point of it is for you to go back watch the film on individual players and that's what helps break down what guys are doing that's fair yeah oh go ahead no I was gonna show real quick U I was going to show the I was G to look at see if the line for this game's come down any uh I know it here over at bet right I just don't in my gut I'm like it's hard for me to just say oh yeah they're going to go out there it's first game of the season it's so hard to to know but I think this is our best chance is then is Penn State coming to an environment like this um you know you got your new coordinators there's going to be some wrinkles at got to figure out and it's not like you're you're doing it against you know Delaware Duane or something like you're coming into Morgantown um right into the fire and trying to work out the The Kinks in your offense and and really I think part of the advantage with West Virginia is um you know the defense last year is not even the same as it is this year we have so many different parts and and PE and guys that are back that we that you know someone like Trotter M things like that that we didn't have and of course you know a couple new cornerbacks then Al also offensively you know Jem white didn't play last year so there's certainly elements that of players that we have coming back that weren't really featured in the first game and so I I think that'll make a difference I think we closed the Gap yep from last year but I I don't know if we can completely pull it off yet and I hate saying that I I do too I iict this to lose too here I'm gonna have to get on my knees and pray and forgive the football gods for even saying something like that but it's just it's just a gut feeling you know and and if we do boy uh I don't know if Morgan Town will burn or not yeah by the way I don't I don't usually drink this early in the day and I'm not going to drink drink much but it's it's National Jimmy Buffett day apparently in Florida Pat MAV is in Morgantown so I figured I'd have me a couple sips of a margarita there you go show but anyway I got my coffee here my this is my normal I'm not going to drink that whole that whole glass it's too early in the day yeah I made it I'm like why am I making this much I'm not gonna drink it all anyway um but if I had a pick it I'd go under because I think they're both going to run the football a lot and now weather keep in mind the weather could be bad too tonight yeah or I mean tomorrow so that could play a role too who do you think by the way if weather's bad let me read this comment real quick from Big dan t but he says if we win the trench battle we win the game challenging but doable agreed big Dante T but man that P D line it's going to be good that's what worries me and I'm a little bit nervous about a couple spots on our offensive line I ain't gonna lie yeah um so we'll see yeah I mean replacing a guy like Frasier that's you you can't basically you're never going to replace someone like that you know maybe if you're highve state or you know Michigan or Alabama or something like that and you got another guy waiting in the wings but even so like what are the chances that you plug in a a a backup that's going to be a second round pick you know right with with another one so I think I think that's kind of like the O Line's kind of how I feel about the defense is is you lost a key player and and a obviously a huge contributor to our success but I think overall the line is is deeper and more talented than it was last year I think you have because uh you know a lot of those guys had to get some experience and we'll see what Yates is it Yates that's playing center now yeah and we we'll see how he did I mean he did pretty good at the bowl game um you know we didn't have any issues and so I I you know I like Matt Moore as our o line coach and I think it's proven that we can develop lineman pretty well so it's just time for them to take the next step uh in in their development and so I think their dline will probably give us issues but the fact that we have a mobile quarterback uh makes me feel better about it because we know that um Garrett green can scramble out of trouble you know if they're getting the pressure on us and things like that and and hopefully have some um some help some you know some safety help with uh Jem white getting the ball out to him and getting to The Playmakers and things like that but uh I was on a the the round table last night and one of the guys brought up a good point he said I think we run right at him you know and I was like well you probably do that to test out M how effective you can be I mean you have to you have I think they'll run the ball first because there it's going to be so emotional if if West gets the ball first maybe even if they get it second because the offense first time the offense is on the field I guess is you know it's still the same but there's going to be so much emotion in Adrenaline do you really want to throw the football unless you unless you're gonna throw it deep now if you would to come out and throw a bomb on the first play but I'm not sure you want to take that kind of risk I'm running I'm running I'm running CJ or or Jem play one of the game that's I kind of go I kind of agree with that it's probably gonna be expected but I still think you do it like you said just to get a feel for how well the O Line's going to be able to block kind of see what pen State's doing how their D is going to react right kind of get and and it's good to get hit and get the Jitters out oh yeah I know hogerson used to always say that about Skyler Howard he's like he liked him to get hit because it kind of got the yeah like said you know once the ball kicks you they always talk about this is Super Bowl it's just a football game you know all the hype and all the the the pregame stuff goes away and you just have to play football and so and I think tomorrow's going to be at least the first quarter is going to be a real chess match and I think you have to run at them uh you know you have to test your o line and test your running backs and test their dline and see what uh see what they're made of and see if you're going to be able to do this for the rest of the game so I agree I think they keep out they come out running um you know it'd be nice to get some sort of big special teams play to help us a big turnover pick six or something like that I think something like that's gonna have to need is going to need to happen agreed West Virginia's got West Virginia's got to make some plays turnover Force turnovers block block some kicks or a kick something scoop and score right pick six and it don't even have to be a pick six but we will take it but uh but I'm just excited I mean I'm excited to see the new new new fa you know a lot of a lot of fans complain about the transfer portal I think it's kind of exciting to see how these new guys play to a degree you know what I mean yeah yeah it's I mean it's free agency for college football yeah so and I think it's benefited now with the caveat as long as you have the money I think it'll benefit a lot of schools it certainly has benefited us you to be able to to get guys that you don't have to and develop but you can pull them from other programs and kind of plug them in you know think about beanie bishop and and Garnet Hollis and and things like that where we have a need and we were able to plug them in but also to to be able to retain players you know have to have the nil money to do it um but I I think everyone was panicked about the portal and it was just going to be kind of the wild west and I always thought it from the beginning I you know the point I made was you know there's still limited amount of roster spots so teams like Georgia and Alabama and AIO State they can't hoard all this Talent right with the portal somebody's got to fall off and you know if they're they're recruiting four or five star guys and you're bringing in more portal guys from other power five then those guys got to fall off to the side somebody's got to get replaced and though and so those guys eventually will start trickling down to teams like West Virginia and things like that so I'm you know I I understand the the fear of it early because like I said you thought teams would just hoard it but you know they have to replace somebody somebody has to go if they're bringing in people so I think we've done a good job you know Ren Baker and the trust and Neil Brown and Drew Fabian I think all that stuff together uh really has West Virginia moving in a in a positive direction yep agreed totally green has has worked on his not hopefully I know he's worked on his short game uh I think he'll be improved there so I I just hope our wide receivers are able to to beat that kind of press man if that's something they see now I heard on um think it was might have been in the gun or something like that that the the defense that Penn State's going to be running this 425 and their coordinator it leans more towards like zone defense M and so I thought you know if if Garrett green has picked up his passing game and he can pick that stuff apart you know I I think we'll do do pretty well of course that's a lot easier to run against uh I think y you know it leaves a little more open space sometimes and so we'll just have to see yep agreed well uh ear beard I appreciate you coming on you know let me get your take on the Pat McAfee meeting in Morgantown today what are your thoughts on that overall I mean there's no denying it's big for the program yeah I mean you know M McAfee has a following he he creates excitement uh I'm not a fan of his show I don't like his approach particularly but I appreciate what he is doing for the program yeah agreed yeah I agree I don't I don't watch it I watch your show occasionally but I'm not like a Die Hard fan now my my future son-in-law he loves it it's he watches it daily so a lot of but he's in that demographic I think that that like it you know he's in his early 20s so that's and that's the demographic that West Virginia needs to attract in my opinion and even more importantly they need to attract kids who were planning to go to college in the next two three four years oh yeah because they need to get the enrollment up and what better way to do that than having Pat McAfee on your campus yeah it's hard to beat the publicity yep absolutely all right so let's get uh before we get into game let everybody know about your channel where they can you know what you know what I know obviously you cover Western football but just give us the you know you know what's your what's your uh Mission Vision whatever of your channel and where they can support you well it all started with guys like there's this guy named Koz who likes to go into the numbers a lot that guy's that guy's an idiot h no but it was a perspective and you know I mean numbers are one thing I'm more sort of what's behind the numbers yeah I like to ask the Garrett will end up with about 350 all-purpose yards that's about 75 yards rushing and about 100 and what 250 yards passing something like that for what do you think uh I'm I'm in the same range I was thinking 75 yards running at least um now of course we don't want him to we don't want him to be forced to run too much uh and a minimum of 200 passing so I'm saying I'm coming in a little lower than you at a minimum of 275 yeah but yeah uh he could easily hit 350 uh and question how well does the running game work that determines how well how B go or if they they may come in and just decide to go with the pass and surprise Penn State maybe but yeah I would say a minimum of 275 somewhere between 275 I think 350 might be the high end uh yeah you're probably right uh and I don't even think my ma I think my math was off I think I actually landed at 325 but Timbo who's a panel member here he says common come on 75 yards against a great Penn State Defense you all are nuts well that's that's part of the problem Timbo I'm not sure the other guys are going to get as many yards as I'd like to see them get so Garrett may have to run the ball more than we wanted to that's that's kind of my uh that's kind of my my thinking but anyway well I mean Al some people are saying Penn State needs to bring pressure which means man-to-man coverage and green is better when you bring pressure his numbers go up and man-to-man coverage opens the field for the quarterback because they're not watching the quarterback so if they do bring pressure and go manto man we could be looking at 150 yards for green on the ground great point now the next qu I don't know how much you get in the conferry alignment Force but this is a conry alignment question also do you think Yukon pit NC State and Virginia Tech will join the Big 12 I'll let you answer that one first I know they've been talking to Yukon I'm not that big on bringing in uh primarily basketball but again I mean you know the Big 12 is a big basketball conference so Yukon would fit uh I definitely see pit coming in uh NC State is iffy I what will happen I think is completely unpredictable right now what I want to happen is a end up because he's trying so hard to do it I do think we'll end up getting Yukon into Big 12 not as confident about the other ones uh but I know that's his in goal is to get some ACC schools I think but uh so to answer your question I do think they get Yukon and we'll probably get a couple of the ACC schools but I'm not sure pit will be one of them but I do I I would I wouldn't be shocked if we there are people calling for it already oh yeah and I'm not so worried about that I just I want them to win and what what the people on that extreme say I don't much care anymore I hear you all right the Mountaineer guy says what do you think will be ranked if we beat PN State good question I think I'm just going to throw out a crazy number I'm going to say 21 it's probably about the right range um of course it depends on how we beat him how close it is how well I mean if both teams play well and West Virginia wins I think we should go at least into the top 20 uh if Penn State for some reason screws up and we win I don't think they'll move us that high but at least into the top 25 right yep we're on the same page on that one all right next question from Mountaineer Steve is PSU really that good or are they overrated like FSU was or is I'll let you go first on that one Forest well of course we don't really know know if Florida State's overrated based on just the first game of the season they may still play the rest of the season as expected um I don't think Penn State is overrated but at the same time they do have a history in the last 15 years of not fully living up to expectations you know so you know they come in rated number eight and then you know finish 12 to 15 which is still great inless your Penn State and everybody was expecting you to be number one right but I mean defense so they don't understand the offense is going to be starting out strong defense identifi the problems fix the problems like you know they they just haven't taken a look it's what happens if
