Jets vs 49ers Reaction + Stroud & Texans are LEGIT + Titans Defense is Top 5 - Lunch Break

Intro all right welcome back into the lunch break your favorite football show to watch while you eat lunch at work Monday through Friday every day at noon I am dropping football content for y'all of course today we have to start with the Jets vs 49ers Reaction New York Jets traveling to San Francisco to take on the 49ers Monday Night Football Standalone game the 49ers pick up the win 32 to9 and not that I was surprised by the reaction to this game cuz of course week one over reactions are always Galore but I was surprised that so far from what I'm seeing I'm the only person who has more to take away from this game on the 49ers side of things than the New York Jets and I'll start with the Jets because I know that's what everybody wants to hear about that is the big talking point for today the New York Jets this was a really good measuring point for this team to see where they're at to open the season Aaron roders First full game is in New York Jet they go in to Levi Stadium and take on the 49ers who were just in the Super Bowl and just played Kansas City to overtime that's a pretty good measuring stick of where you stand up and I'm not going to be I'm not going to lie the 49ers they absolutely dominated this game um you know the team stats tell it all 24 to 14 in favor of the ners and first downs right the time of possession I think the ners had the ball for some 20 more minutes in this game they were going through and the one concern I have for the Jets is the Niners were able to run the ball all over them were're able to run the ball all over them the Jets have to sh up their run defense maybe it's missing Hassan reck maybe it's just missing a pass rusher in general because they lost Bryce Huff to bring in Hassan reck but still don't have Hassan reic something there has to change but I will say this in the Jets favor it's Shanahan it's week one last year week one he made Mike tomlin's defense look bad so a pump the breaks on overreaction to the Jets a lot of people are taking their Victory laps this morning on Aaron Rogers oh he's washed he's not good blah blah blah the Jets were never going to be good this is not a team that can make the playoffs whoa whoa whoa whoa let's let's pump the breaks here okay let's just let this breathe a little bit Aaron roders hasn't played a full game of football in two years he looks pretty good for a guy at 40 coming off with Tor Achilles it's not going to all be at once you know we talked about this yesterday but the average passing yard game for a quarterback in week one was under 200 yards before this game Aaron Rogers looked pretty good okay Garrett Wilson looked very solid you know couple pass breakups that one really wonky interception it's the Niners defense at home home opener things happen the Jets need to be able to run the ball better and I don't know if that was speaking to the Jets offense defensive line or the fact that the 49ers defensive line has Javon Hargrave Nick Bosa and a guy like Fred Warner Crashing Down On The Run I don't know but the beauty of this is we get to find out now next week's matchup doesn't get much easier with the Tennessee Titans because we're going to talk about them at the end of this pod but they look mean they look pretty mean so we'll see where the Jets run defense lands in a week's time but new offensive coordinator Nat hackit Aaron Rogers playing his first ever game in two years got to learn connections with ree Hall Garrett Wilson Mike Williams Malachi Corley got to see him more out there going forward Alan Lazard had that drop pump the breaks all right it is week one of the NFL season and we are seeing a team who on the offensive side of the ball everything's brand new in the New York Jets against the San Francisco 49ers who consistently have had this defensive group together a change in defensive coordinators yes but these guys know how to play together and a Shanahan Le offense which when you give Shanahan additional time especially going into week one this guy preps well and he plays well it was a bad match up for the Jets I didn't expect them to win this game when I gave my prediction of the Jets being an 11- win team winning the division I went through and picked every game I picked the ners week one I think this is a game that was a good barometer good for the Jets to see early on hey this is where we're at compared to a Super Bowl contender but I don't sit at this and go the New York Jets sting I thought they didn't play well but you know is this defense going to be bad they looked mid last night but if we could trust anything we've seen over the last couple years with Robert zot that this Jets defense will be good you get that pass rusher back in Hassan reck and you're in business for the San Francisco 49ers again I thought that this game told me more about them to be able to not have Christian mcaffrey your offensive engine have Trent Williams coming back this week everything with Brandon iuki clearly missed conditioning you know he dropped that diving catch for a touchdown that could have obviously made his week look a little bit better and I said oh that's a tough catch and my roommate said to me yeah it's a tough catch but you make 30 million a year you make that catch that's it's a fair criticism but all of that and they not only won the game but they controlled the game I saw a tweet um about this game in it it was so 49ers it was an undrafted excuse me the Mr Irrelevant the last pick of the draft hands the ball off to an undrafted rookie who runs behind a third round pick at guard and they're just gashing a defensive line full of first round picks that is the most Shanahan offense ever and it's true that was that was really the story of the game the 49ers pounded the ball down the Jets they kept running Jordan Mason I I don't even know what his final statline was but the guy averaged like six seven eight yards per carry they didn't skip a beat without mcaffrey in this game and rumor has it he won't play next week either against Minnesota and if I was at all cautious about what McCaffrey's health status was I wouldn't played him next week no not after what I saw tonight not after what I saw with Jordan Mason being an absolute stud out there behind that old line no way you know the 49ers offense had its additional plays yeah had Debo you know he's apparently the running back too on this squad uh you had Debo and iuk with a mes route Concepts a couple KD play a huse check appearance and Jan jeds picked up some first downs but other than that man the ners just ran the ball controlled the clock said stop it and the New York Jets couldn't you know everybody's talking about how bad the Jets offense is they were barely out there they were barely out there you know cuz the ners Shanahan what they do it is one of the better outside run teams of my lifetime and apparently it doesn't always matter who the running back is I've watched him do it with Raheem moard p mcaffrey and now Jordan Mason they got good backs out there in San Francisco and they got good offensive line that knows how to pull this team you know coming off of the Super Bowl appearance there's always the chatter of is the Super Bowl loser going to have a Super Bowl hangover saw it with my Eagles kind of came into effect at the end of the year saw it with the Rams the year after they won the Super Bowl we see it all the time we see it all the time and in my predictions I picked the ners to win this division the Rams were a fun popular pick you know it was the cool thing to do pick the Rams to win the division and I picked the 49ers I said they're the best roster very head coach I don't see this team having a Super Bowl hangover and boy they didn't they didn't miss a beat this is a very very good 49ers team and I'll tell you what it's one game sample size so we're not going to sit here and overreact to a high degree on a Tuesday but but new defensive coordinator they brought in looks pretty good small sample size because the offense was out there so much but looked good defense looked good red Warner looked strong travarius Ward looked good yador Lenor looked good had that pass break up that led to the interception to Andre Campbell alongside Fred Warner hey that was an off season Edition that linebacker unit looks good Drake Greenlaw guy that they're certainly going to miss but Campbell looked good you have hardgrave on that line Bosa Leonard Floyd got a sack on Rogers in this game you know we talked about this in the ners team preview they picked and plugged the holes that they needed to I wouldn't say that they got better but it looks like they brought in the right guys for the job that defense I think it might be better this year than it was last and if that's the case you could afford for the offense to take a little bit of a step back you could afford to be a little bit cautious with Christian mcaffrey the ners they did their job week one win at home over the Jets I'm a Jets fan I'm not overreacting you know 17 more or excuse me 16 more games to go we're going to go undefeated this year right it's a good stackup as to where the jets are in terms of a Super Bowl Contender do they have some things to work on absolutely you have a talent like breeze Hall you got to figure out either some better blocking concepts for him or maybe you just aren't against Fred Warner every week I don't know time will tell on that standpoint but I thought Rogers looked fine he's a lot more of a pocket quarterback now I don't think anybody should be surprised by that 40 years old coming off a torn Achilles yeah the guy is going to be a pocket quarterback I have a little bit of questions around r a wide receiver too if they could really depend on an allen Lazard but they drafted the kid Malachi Corley and from what I hear he's Debo Samuel Jr that time to get him on the football field so a team I really Texans are LEGIT want to spend some time on is the Houston Texans because the Houston Texans were the team in my playoff predictions that I predicted to get to the AFC Championship this year and face the Kansas City Chiefs and you know progression not always linear in the NFL and the Houston Texans this off seon easily and I mean easily could have sat on their hands and said let's use our first round draft pick bring in another skill position guy whether that was Jonathan Brooks at running back or maybe they took Keon Coleman at wiers whatever it was let's just add another piece here and keep it moving let's see Deo and CJ do it again let's see them prove that it wasn't a flash in the pan and they easily could have done that and obviously in Hind site I know Texans fans wouldn't have been happy with that because they know what they did do but if they had done that you couldn't have blamed them the Texans could have been maybe an 11- win team win the AFC South again win another playoff game and get bounced in the divisional round and then next year go this is legit let's now push all the chips in but I want to give credit to Nick Caserio the general manager because he said no I saw enough and while st's on this rookie deal let's make the most of it let's push all the chips in now and extend our window in additional year I love it and they play the division rival Indianapolis Colts in week one one of the more underrated games cuz I think these are two playoff teams battling Houston on the road gets the win 29-27 over the Colts and it wasn't a perfect game by either team by any means but two team team stats that I want to read off to you two team stats and I don't even know which one I find more impressive time of possession in this game the Houston Texans 40 minutes the Indianapolis Colts 20 minutes on the dot the Texans held the ball for double the time the Colts did you know we just talked about the 49ers and what they did and why they're so good the Houston Texans had the ball double the time and why is that the Houston Texans finally have a run game listen to this 213 rushing yards for the Texans 104 of the Colts the Indianapolis Colts have Anthony Richardson and Jonathan Taylor and the Houston Texans outrush them by over a 100 yards in their building that is impressive that's very impressive and you look around the league some of the teams that struggled are teams ear early on they can't run the ball because their passing game isn't refined because we skip out on preseason now and that's just the truth of the matter the cinnati Bengals I didn't mean to pick on them but they looked bad why because Jamar Chase wasn't practicing he was out there a ton T Higgins hurt now your passing game is limited they didn't have a run game why cuz Joe Mixon is on the Texans now what did Joe Mixon do week one 30 carries let's just stop right there people have back that's that dependable is astonishing they got him for what was like a day three pick 30 carries 159 yards in a touchdown the Cincinnati Bengals would be 1 and0 right now if they had that production at running back but they didn't they chose to get rid of them and the Houston Texans said thank you very much because what did the Texans lack last year what stopped them from being competitive with Baltimore in that playoff game he couldn't run the ball Mike McDonald in that Elite Ravens defense knew exactly what the Texans had to do in that game they had to throw the ball there was no other choice Devin single ter was not going to give them enough in the Run game that offensive line was banged up wasn't going to give them enough they were easy to scheme against now CJ stad and Nico Collins are so talented that the Texans obviously weren't just nothing in that game but everybody on Earth knew their game plan now the Texans have a two-dimensional offense running and passing they can beat you with Joe Mixon getting 30 carries and 159 yards and the team as a whole getting 213 rushing yards on the day stra had 234 passing yards and two touchdowns not not a crazy day I mean in terms of week one games you might as well give a guy the MVP for that kind of stat line but in terms of just in general not a crazy day the receivers Nico Collins 6 for 117 that mean he's a dog tkal 3 for 40 Stefon digs 6 for 33 and had the two touchdowns that isn't a crazy day from that wide receiver in core but it didn't need to be because the Texans are a balanced offense again and now when we talk about this Houston Texans team they can run the ball and win games they can sustain drives on the ground you go up and play the Chiefs if you win the time of possession 40 to 20 against the Chiefs you got a real shot you keep Patrick Mahomes off the field he can't beat you the Houston Texans have the ability to do that now they didn't have that last year and that's not even me including the additions of off of Stefon digs who had two touchdowns in that game uh denil Hunter who was a pro bowl level Edge rusher and aiz aler who's one of the best linebackers in football and young players Nico Collins tank Dell CJ strad you know uh Stingley Petri all these guys that are going to get better will Anderson Jr Defensive Rookie of the Year last year the Houston Texans are legit and they showed you in week one and it was during the 1:00 slot so didn't get a lot of love but this team's legit and so are the Colts so are the Colts this is not an indictment on the Colts I think the Colts are a good team Anthony Richardson completed nine passes and had 212 yards the guy's a freak of nature for that throw that he had might be throw of the year to Alec Pierce and they're going to be good the Colts are going to be good if they can refine that passing game they're they're dangerous they're not a team I want to see in the playoffs I'm in the AFC but the Houston Texans I mean it hit week one it hit week one you know we talked about teams that maybe it takes a little bit of time to figure it out the Texans showed you a week one Deo Bobby slowick stoud Mixon Collins Hunter Will Anderson digs hell listen to the team I promise you Houston's legit and people will be saying it after next Sunday when they're in Prime Time against the Bears but I'm here to tell you right now Houston's legit all right so as promised I want to Titans Defense finish off the show today talking about the Tennessee Titans in their defense because the story out of the Bears game was yes despite the Bears won Caleb Williams held to 93 passing yards is Caleb Williams a bust this guy's not good and listen did Caleb have a good game no not by any means did he have some problems that rookie quarterbacks T to have hero ball holding the ball too long not getting it out quick enough making some not so great decisions yeah did Kanan Allen also drop a touchdown on him yeah you know Caleb ailed a couple deep balls had had a Dun or he had Keenan Allen um down the sideline for what could have been a big game and he missed him a m it you know uh I think in perspective of the week we don't need to overreact to Caleb's performance from a bears perspective because ultimately a lot of quarterbacks had crappy games but I think a lot of quarterbacks are going to have crappy games against this Titans defense you know they kept making additions this off season and I kept coming up here and saying the Titans might have a top five defense in the NFL this is one of the best groups I've seen in a long time this secondary could be the best in the NFL and week one Titans defense they didn't give up an offense offive touchdown I know the Bears you know you box score watch the Bears have 24 points 21 in the second half the Titans defense didn't give up an offensive touchdown okay we had Punt and block return and pick six was what won the game for the Bears um tandre sweat on that defensive line what an addition played absolutely great you pair him next to a Jeffrey Simmons Good Luck running the ball good luck on the ball and oh yeah they they added in Ernest Jones as well by the way 140 tackles last year for the Rams I don't know why they let him go and in that secondary you have larius sne you have ammani hooker you have shidu uer you have you know Jamal Adams he'll be coming back you got pieces you got Roger mccre you got quandre dicks the Titans man that this is one of the better defenses in the NFL and we didn't get it this week and I'm not saying that we should but with how good this defenses and with guys like Tony Pard and Calvin Ridley and DeAndre Hopkins and chiggy and conil will Lis keeps making mistakes like he did essentially to cost the Titans the game we could be talking about the Titans trying to go trade for a veteran quarterback this year and turn things around will L's clock could be ticking you know head new head coach one new head coach so will Lis not his guy but a new head coach Brian Callahan of the Cincinnati Bengals formerly as the OC comes in and says I think we would have won that game if on every first and 10 we had in the second half we punted the football that's kind of an indictment on your quarterback tells me you don't believe he could lead an offensive Drive huh so but we'll see there but I want to get it on your radar now that the Titans defense is legit and the Titans defense is one of those defenses that when you see them week to week against your fantasy team I'd look to the bench for another option because I don't think they're going to let up a lot of points I think that they're going to be stingy I think that they're going to be ball Hawks I think that they're great against the run I think they're great against the pass I think the Titans defense is a Super Bowl caliber defense they don't have the offense to match it with Levis at quarterback it doesn't appear again I'm not going to jump to conclusions the guy's young the guy had four starts Jordan love didn't look hot all of last year either by the end of the year the guy was the highest paid quarterback in the league I'll give love some time and I think the Titans should too I think there's some things to figure out it's a new offense as well so I'm not jumping on the get will Lis out of town he's got some intangibles with that arm strength he's mobile you show up his decision making and maybe make Reeds a little bit easier for him and the Titans could be a playoff team man that that AFC South's a good division you got the Texans who I think are legit Super Bowl contenders the Colts who gave the Texans a hell of a fight Titans with this defense the Jaguars who we haven't talked about but I do think that both them and the Dolphins just played sloppy but Jaguar should have won that game they were up 17-7 in etn it's about to run into the end zone and make it 247 to7 fumbles the ball crappy play Jaguars collapse mid game felt like it was very indicative of their season last year but man that AFC South is looking pretty good and the Titans defense is the they're going to give Trevor Lawrence Anthony Richardson and CJ strad some trouble this year they're going to give every team that they face some trouble this year and then funny enough we started the show talking about the Jets ending the show talking about the Titans and that's your week two matchup something to keep an eye on and again if you're a Jets fan and the offense doesn't look good in week two you may have just gotten a bad break to open the season you know I will Reserve all judgment well not all judgment but most judgment for about four weeks into the season there's some teams that we know what they are like the Chiefs Chiefs are good Ravens Ravens are good Niners Niners are good some teams that we know are bad Panthers Panthers are bad Browns Browns are bad Giants Giants are bad but there's a lot of teams in between that we're going to find out where they rank in the pecking order later
