welcome everyone to Chestnut Hill home of the Boston colge Eagles where fans are quickly filling up alumni stadium in anticipation of a terrific Clash we have ahead today a couple of teams getting set to square off in an ACC battle as we'll see the North Carolina Tar Heels taking on the Boston College Eagles for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David Pollock and Jesse Palmer time to get this game [Applause] started Boston College about to kick it off and get this game started here he comes from inside his own five just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 so North Carolina's offense takes the field to start this game off and these guys involve everybody in the passing game and none more prominent than this big fella the quarterback knows he's going to be under duress in this game so who do you look for the tight end and there aren't many better than this guy no and just big bodies that you can miss a little bit high and it really doesn't matter but over the middle of the field closer throws so nice to have a security blank with a great tight end I'll tell you this is a running back who's very very dangerous and the defense did a good job getting him down there but you got to do a great job game tackling because this is a guy that can break tackles and turn those types of plays into home runs caught behind the line it's Hampton and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pickup what's important in this game this offense gets the running back involved out in the perimeter in space where he can do some damage that time they got it to him throwing the football he picked up a couple yards but it gives the defense something to think about third and six and they'll need a big play here on this opening [Applause] drive Johnson looking to throw quickly to the tight end well you get the completion and now it's decision time for the head coach right this is a massive one too fourth and short on your own end of the field what do you do the tars will punt this one away the punter going to get his first work of the [Applause] afternoon signals for the fair Catch and that's where they'll put it in play just outside the 20 so Boston colleges offense will try to get something going with their first possession here are our impact players for this game and it goes beyond executing an assignment to make an impact in the game yeah obviously we were talking to both coaching staffs this week and we asked them who needs to step up and play well they immediately pointed to these guys right here they are the key for their respective teams yeah and they don't always show up in the Box Score but these are the guys are the leaders these are the guys getting everybody organized and have to play well for their team to succeed Boston College wants to play fast [Applause] [Applause] off play action on first down and the quarterback bought sometime but not enough down he goes with a sack strong safety blitzes can sometimes be hard to see coming from a quarterback standpoint because we're used to seeing the strong safeties insert themselves into the box but you don't often times see them Blitz like that that can be tricky to watch a first down sack can be a drive killer now it's second and 13 the playaction fake quick strike complete and they're able to force him out of bounds after a short pickup nice completion nice short game now it sets up third down and wait a minute third down now becomes we're going to go for it on fourth down anyway so it really doesn't matter that much great job getting a little chunk now we get to go have some fun they've got some work to do on this third and long from the 40 back to throw it's casos a strike downfield and he'll take it in they couldn't get him on the ground touchdown Eagles one of the reasons this offense is so exciting to watch they've got guys that are dangerous after the catch if this quarterback gets through his progression David he hits you in stride these guys will take it to the house man it's your job to do the rest right you hit me in stride where I don't have to stop running I don't have to break down it makes it so easy the connection between quarterback wide receiver you can tell this is a good one and that's why they got six on that play they'll try to add another to their lead and the pat makes it seven nothing quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and the score comes courtesy of an explosive play in the passing game from 60 yds out lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown drive on the move from inside is five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 North Carolina has it back in the Tar Hill so pleased to send the offense back out they'll try the Run didn't find a lot of room let's give him two out to the 20 you know runs like this often times are like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into longer runs after picking up a couple at second and eight he's looking to throw makes the catch it's Hampton he's brought down solid pick up on a little bit short of the first down in college football you see this in t now you use a quick passing game basically as the running game get a few yards get your offense ahead of the sticks keeps it on Pace for Success fairly manageable distance here on third down from the 27 they'll try to power their way ahead and the Tar Heels brought to the ground but not before picking up the first well no real mystery there and I think this coaching staff has a lot of confidence in their offensive line to get the push needed to give that back just a big enough crease to fall forward and get the firstes and it's so hard my room for error is so small when I'm the defensive line like I got to get off the ball as fast I can and try to get some for he's going to let one fly down the middle and it slips through his fingers in complete that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it well on defense they know that this offense is going to try and take shots they're going to try and keep their secondary players in a position to make these types of plays good job on the back end forcing that incompletion Johnson wants to throw it this time he's got him he's close to the first down but they're going to Mark him just a little short I love early in a game getting my quarterback coming out short passes easy completions now we're getting in a good spot and they got the completion but still looking at a third down quick pass to the left trying to get it to the marker and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chains and it's tough on the defense there third down you're in zone coverage everybody's watching the quarterback and you're trying to make a break on the ball but he just got it out of his hands too quickly and the throw was too accurate really nothing you can do there and it's now a fresh set of downs off the play fake on first down to throw looking deep down the right side and he's got it inside the 15 yd line he stopped just short of the goal line but they'll have it first and goal from the one ooh the defense so lucky that was not a touchdown the offense saw an opportunity to take a chance and take a shot and they executed that play [Applause] [Applause] beautifully the explosive play set the table now they got to serve the feast keeping it on the ground on first and goal into the end zone he goes touchdown UNC up and over yo be there into the end zone and you don't want to leave your feet very often in football but this is one of those areas where you do in the End Zone near the goal line you smell it a lot of bodies in front of you just get up get over top of them get that touchdown [Music] [Applause] ready to try the point [Applause] after hit that one with some aggression for the point after so an 82 yd drive there and they capped it off with a one- yd plunge all tied up and just about set to kick it away he'll start the return inside his spot nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 BC has it back and the eagle offense returns to the field wants to throw on first down off the play fake got it in the middle it's mcgall and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play nice confidence by the QB good throw over the middle of the field nice little strike down the field for a big play listen you got to throw it where it's open and he found a slot found a little hole in the middle of the field nice job attacking Boston College right back to the line grab behind the line it's b and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few defense man it helps a lot when you can be a linebacker or a corner or safety anybody and you see the QB throw the football now I can break on the football right away and limit gains like right here on this play they'll line up for a second down play they're going to test the right side with this one and they Tred the middle of this defense and that is not happening great team defense on that run play everybody doing their job people winning their one-on ones D linemen staying in their gaps linebackers and DBS filling just can't do it better they'll try to move the chains on this third and long from the [Applause] 50 scanning the field it's castios he makes the connection and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker you got to love that on defense one of the most critical statistics out there is how do you play on third down how do you prevent the opponent from keeping drives alive right there tackling the catch you gave up the completion what you do you set up fourth and long you're going to get the ball back go get some water and celebrate fourth down and the punt team sent it the other way while we're only through one these quarterbacks have been lighting up their stat line we've got a good one going here and looking forward to keep those vibes rolling here in the second the North Carolina offense returns to the field looking for room it's Hampton and he has a solid gain before the defense botles him up coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that yard pickup on first down leaves him with second and four takes a hand off and he's going right didn't get much done on that run he'll fight his way out and maybe maybe pick up a yard how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad attentions lining up to convert third down from the gun wants to pass shoots it to the left he's got it really putting together a threat now they get the first it's at the 37 and listen the defense knew coming into this one they were going to Target him early and often he is a weapon and there's no mystery where the quarterback's going to be looking on critical down and distances let's see how they are able to cover him throughout the rest of this game the tarel have it with a first and 10 he leaves it with his back tackle is made at the 27 let's give him 10 yards on the play and it is enough for a first down well if at first you don't succeed try try again right it's been really hard for this offense in this game to run the football but they finally break off a big run there that could be the play they need to really generate momentum and get this run game going Johnson looking to throw makes the grab down the middle and quarterback receiver on the same page nice job seeing the Zone understanding the drag round concept easy pitch easy catch and the tar Hills have taken it inside the 20 looking to throw on second down quickly complete he's out of bounds but not before picking up enough for the first down guys out of the back field now it's not just run the ball down hill anymore you got to be versatile I got to be able to trust you in the pass game and I got to be able to throw you the football and you can do that right there I know you're going to catch it and I can depend on it on First and 10 trying to strike from the 15 looking for room it's Hampton they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and a great job by the linebacker you can tell starting to crowd the line of scrimmage get up there in the line of scrimage see it diagnose it get in the back field get the running back on the ground for the tackle for the loss the loss yardage leaves him with second and [Applause] 11 hand off to the lone back they make the Stop and they give up five yards on the run it's down to the 11 I know the passing game sells the passing game is exciting but it's not exciting to get five or six yards of pop on the ground but it will be very successful really need to pick up this conversion and avoid having to settle for the field [Applause] goal on third down he'll try to pick it up through the air reels it in in the end zone touchdown tarel number one of the areas they really focused on with this receiver in the off season was we need you to make more plays for us in the end zone we're taking shots we need to be able to step up and make tough catches of David what a grab right there and I think a lot of that has to do with trusting your guy knowing where he's going to be knowing when he's going to sit down when he's not so being on the same page and then having a guy that can go get it just when the ball is near him he's going to make the play just like he did right there for six points ling up to add another and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven so that's a 60yd touchdown drive and they finish it with an 11 yd touchdown Dart they're just about ready to kick it away number set to kick off from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 Boston College sending the offense back onto the field hand off from the gun he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple man he tried to do all he could he broke one tackle but my goodness guys were hitting him left and right in the back field this is a staple for any good defensive coordinator they want their guys to swarm to the football to gang tackle if one guy misses another one's there no doubt and the staple for the offensive coordinator or the offensive line coach is block those guys don't watch them tackle our guys looking for a crease it's robacho getting behind those pads and behind a stiff arm to get it out to the 27 it's really frustrating when you get a guy in his spot he's in the hole he's there to do his job and you can't get the guy on the ground that's your job get him on the ground you know especially a guy that's not a huge back you got to make that tackle you can't make it easy on the offense where now they got a a manageable [Applause] situation he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and when you play defensive end it's all about getting off the football you can tell gets off the football really fast Gets In The Back Field gets the running back before he knows what hit him what a play by the defensive end Boston College will send out the punt team this will be the second time they've had to kick it [Applause] away might have thought he'd want to try to pick up a few yards there but he's content with making the fair catch right around the 35 yd line can't find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down that's how you blow up the screen pass here on defense you got to hit the quarterback fast Force the incompletion and the incompletion brings up a second down for this offense Johnson want to throw it he finds his man and he'll step out of bounds after a very productive play this quarterback right now is in the Grove and he's doing a nice job of prasing he's reading the coverage and he's getting an idea of where he wants to go with the football that's why the ball's coming out of his hands so quickly that's why he seems like he's in a great with SNAP from the gun on third down they're trying to get to it and the defense is all over the quarterback and down he goes nice coverage on the back end great job nothing open right away the QB holds the ball in the pocket and the pass rush finally gets home sometimes it's the DBS doing great work sometimes it's the defensive lineman winning up front the tars will bring the punt team onto the field and before they can kick it the receiving team's going to call a timeout the punt team makes its way onto the field this will be the second time they've had to kick it [Applause] away on the move it's Bon that Nifty return sets up the offense and negates some of the yardage on the punt first down here with time for maybe one more play until the two-minute warning moving away from presser and he gets it just beyond the line of scrimmage but before he gets down we reached the two-minute warning and we have ourselves a ball game and they have a chance to take the lead here before the half second down coming up he's looking to throw using the quick game they get him on the ground but it's a first down and this junior loves to show off that big arm nice completion here to this wide receiver and you're going to see this receiver line up in different spots all over the field all game long defense has got to keep their eye on where this guy is because they know he's a big part of this offensive success looking to pass it's casos he's going for an off and it goes through his hands oh he had an explosive play right there for the taking but couldn't reel it in Hey listen the quarterback didn't get the completion on that throw but that doesn't mean you can't try again trusting your Playmakers outside to push the field and stretch it vertically and make a play for you it won't surprise me to see this QB take more shots as this game goes on catch in the middle it's B there to make the tackle but the big throw is good enough to give him a first down really nice job by the quarterback understanding I needed to throw this ball hard like I got to fitting in there tight and a nice job by the wide receiver wearing it cuz he really didn't have a choice cuz he was going to wear that one regardless and the golden eagles getting set on First and 10 just a bit of a misfire there as they can't make the connection and on that incompletion I think the quarterback was being just a bit too careful trying to throw that ball too far outside obviously aware that the Defenders are coming from the inside you don't want to put it behind the intended target to risk the pick six but he needs to be more accurate after the incompletion Here Comes second and 10 from the 32 that's caught it's by makes the grab and he's dragged down well they're able to complete the hitch throw against man coverage and hey quarterback's got to be able to get it to him quickly cuz he knows that Defender is going to be driving on the ball so really nice job not hesitating getting it to him and then he gets what he can get after the catch Ball's at the 27 it's third and short can they looking for the end zone and he's got it touch down Boston Collin yeah and the passing game comes through man and we need more of that in the second half an extra point away from tying this football game you Trail a little bit in the first half stayed calm if this passing game can continue to heat up look out the second [Music] [Applause] half lining up for the P exra [Applause] Point splits the upright that drive covers 62 yds for the touchdown and they cap things off with a scoring toss from 27 yds out so they got the touchdown and as they kick off really important for the defense to shut them down here on the run from inside his own five nice job executing all of the ass as they put a stop to that return at the 22 North Carolina has it back in the Tar Hill so pleased to send the offense back out it's caught downfield the offense will have to use its first timeout of the half they couldn't draw up a better way to start a drive and now they've got it first and 10 from the 41 looking to move it through the air they've got the screen set up and so many things have to come together perfectly for a scream to work big yardage and they were close you could tell that almost busted but they just got wacked up got a little bit of yardage but they really wanted that one to be a big game here comes the offense on second [Applause] down Johnson looking to throw fires to the tight end and he gets a big chunk of yardage to the 34 yd line time out the clock will stop with this timeout from the offense they'll get a chance to regroup on the sideline to the air on first down complete downfield the offense quickly calls timeout to stop the clock it's really tough on offenses when defenses know what you got to do you got to pass the football they're in man coverage how about the receiver understanding where the first down is he smells it he goes and gets it and he might be known for run pitch but that was a sure and tackle on the tight endend this is a great way to control Tempo control the game feeding the tight end and they've done it beautifully here in the first half you find great matchups re you I mean you think about it he's too good to be covered by linebackers you like your matchup versus a safety so zoner man whatever you want to do I'm going to find the big fella because he's going to be open most of the time [Applause] final seconds of the first half and they'll try to put up [Applause] three kick is good the offense has three points to show for the drive and the field goal to end the half takes us to halftime [Music] we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connor in our halftime update fellas you've been taking in some scene there today in Chestnut Hill toughest job inside that Stadium right now might just be the scoreboard operator after all those first downs and touchdowns big plays have find this one thanks to two of the best receiving core in all of college football let's see if these defenses can adjust and make the necessary chess moves and with that let's send it back to the guys at alumni [Music] stadium and the tars will kick it off to start the second half he'll bring it back from inside to SP nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 BC has the ball back hoping for a party in the mods they keep it on the ground to open the third nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry and not much Running Room he had to break a tackle and still break another tackle to try to get back to the line of scrimmage not good blocking on the play but that's what coaches always emphasize too never assume a teammate's going to make the tackle you run to the ball and they did it there 100% especially guys that are so big and strong and Elusive nowadays they're going to break tackles keep swarming keep hitting them next guy don't don't assume the tackle going to be made he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple they're trying to run the football there's just nowhere to go for the ball carrier inside he tried to bounce it to the outside that linebacker way too fast he met him there and forced the TF Out and the running game has been going in the wrong direction they'll try to get their first positive play of the drive here on third down caught in the back field It's Bradley and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down you know I got to tell you as an offense moving forward in this game third and long you're going to have to push the ball downfield a little bit more you got to throw to the sticks and give yourself a chance to convert these third Downs Boston College lining up to punt this one away let's see if he can help the cover aage team out with this one fair catch called for and made the North Carolina offense returns to the field they've got the lead here last time they settled for a field goal but David got to find that balance between being aggressive and careful and I think they'll take that I got the lead Palmer I got the football I got to take care of the football put a nice drive together and just get some kind of points on this drive no doubt lots to be happy about right now if you're this team I think for this one though on this drive it's about finding the one-on-one matchups that are in your favor and then exploiting them trying to impose their will with the Run he will step out of bounds but not before the big pickup and a first down for this offense I'll tell you what a few more runs like that and defensively you start thinking more guys in the Box more big guys I better stop this guy cuz he's unbelievable just a great job breaking off the big run and the OC's going to give him the ball Some Mo they think they can impose their will here with the run to the right shows off another move and gets down to the 33 yd line I know it's sexy to throw the football but if you can pound it away and get these kind of gains they will just add up wear the defense down get first downs and ultimately get some points good spot after that seven yd pickup on first down it's second and three Johnson wants to throw it quick completion on the out he steps out of bounds but he's got enough for a first down nice job there by the receiver on the out route not telegraphing where he's going he can't be peeking to the outside giving the defender an opportunity to break on the ball he kept his eyes right down the field DB had no idea where he was going and that helped make that completion a whole lot easier coming out on first down with the play fake going for it all and good coverage and better hands on that shot to the end zone smart offensive coordinators they're going to throw deep especially those 50/50 balls you hear about all the time my wide receiver is better than your DB not on this play the incompletion brings up a second [Applause] down they'll leave it with the lone back he breaks a tackle and it's enough def a coordinator you don't need the perfect play with this guy as your running back he's going to make the play perfect for you because he makes everybody miss spin moves hurdles sniff arms speed whatever it takes to move the sticks and score touchdowns already in Chip Shot field goal range at the 21 but this third and short they're still thinking touchdown to the ground to try to pick up the first they were all over him nowhere to go as that third down play turned in into a disaster man what a spectacular play by that defensive end to come up with the tackle there and you see those guys get off the football so fast most of these guys are 250 and 275 lbs but they get off the ball fast low in the offensive lineman they have no chance to stop those guys as quick and as fast as they are North Carolina 20 Boston College 14 [Applause] after that last field goal Drive they're set to kick it away and he takes this from inside the five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 VC has it back and the eagle offense returns to the field they'll give it to the back they shut it down quickly but he gets two out to the 18 and a lot of times you want those big plays you want those Splash plays but sometimes you're going to take some losses you're not going to run the football overly well but if you continue to run it you can at least create some balance you at least have the threat of it otherwise you're just going to abandon it and now it's just going to be a passing game got it behind the line it's mcgow didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few and I think you're seeing these guys in every offense now these little guys that they're so quick it's hard to get a hand on them run Cris routs you can throw it short you can throw it long but they're just big time Playmakers you've definitely seen an emphasis shift towards smaller wide receivers with some serious skill going to try to pop one on the screen and they gave him no chance to get loose and they force a fourth down we give the defense credit there on third down it almost looked like they were expecting the screen they gave up a few yards but not enough for a first down now they've got a chance to get off the field Boston College will send out the punt team fourth time tonight we've seen this Guy come on to punt slips through the line coverage team able to put a stop to that return at the 42 yd Line North Carolina has it back in the tar heill so pleas to send the offense back out they'll run the RPO and throw it right he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down I like the decision by the quarterback here just get the ball out of your hands get it to your playmaker a lot of times he'll dance and make even bigger plays than he did here but it was still a positive game kept it on the ground on first down see if they stick with that plan on second Johnson looking to [Applause] throw P's left wide open downfield slicing and dicing through this defense and they've got it down to the 23 well how about the offense setting that play up we've seen earlier in the game game a couple shorter throws they're just trying to suck those safeties closer to the line of scrimmage anticipating that they would get an opportunity to take a shot they called the perfect play at the perfect time right there he'll come out throwing on first down got it in the middle it's Hampton touchdown North Carolina and they add 64 to the board with that trip to the house and when you have so many Playmakers on offense like they do they can score quickly you just saw it right [Music] [Applause] there two-point conversion attempt is coming they want to throw it coming after it and the defense on him and he will go down sack on the two-point try Carolina 26 Boston College 14 [Applause] almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown K here he comes from inside his own five he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 Boston College sending the offense back onto the field they hope to be able to cash in on this drive David after having to punt it last oh he's going to take a shot at the DB it's complete a huge pickup and he ran away from the defense to take it in touchdown Boston G and this receiver is on fire he's got all the skills that he look for in a big time Target that's already his second touchdown of the game [Applause] [Music] [Applause] now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer that drive not too taxing on the Playbook One play put it in the end zone just like that about to kick it off after punching it in for the [Applause] touchdown on the move from inside is five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the North Carolina offense returns to the field on the run it's Hampton and that's a very productive first down play and bringing up second and three keep pounding away at this defense and make them play the run if you can get this many a chunk they're going to have to commit more guys to the Box more guys to the run then you open it up for the passing G they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three [Applause] we've been treated to an aerial show by these two guys so far as you check out their numbers when you're dealing with a deficit like this it's all about somebody stepping up to make a play and you might as well start here in the fourth quarter fires to the big fella he's run out of bounds but he's got enough to move the sticks love the play call offensively because you've got the lead the defense expects you to run the ball you just did it the previous play so there you dial up play action set up an easy throw and you keep the clock ticking and this set of downs gets started from the 33 first and 10 wide receiver now comes in motion they weren't able to get that one off it be a delay of game delay of game off so frustrating to see an offense lose track of the play clock and pick up a penalty like that running back searching for a hole they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one linebackers have such an amazing responsibility got to play run got to play pass how about this seeing the Run aggressively getting down and get in the back field and making a tackle for a loss now on second [Applause] down pulls and throws off the RPO he stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground covered pick up the first I love offenses and quarterbacks that are willing to take the easy Stu take those easy throws that are guaranteed to get positive yards yeah I'm going to take big shots down the field too but don't forget it's easier to pick up second and five third and five than it is when we start getting those long yarded situations throws to the wide out and a missed opportunity on third down as the defense knocks hit free and fourth down is coming up that's one thing this defense takes a lot of Pride on they like tackling the catch and they like being around the ball that time he was in proximity to knock that thing loose nice physical play the heels will line up to pun it [Applause] away not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch BC has the ball back hoping for a party in the mods boy that last touchdown the oneplay quick strike scor Jesse this offense hoping to keep that kind of explosiveness going and I don't know if they're going to get the same looks defensively because of just how explosive that play was re David they may be seeing a little bit more uh off coverage on this drive and maybe some softer boxes to run into and when you make that kind of explosive play you're going to put the defense on his heels they're going to be a little bit more conservative so this offense approach now maybe I don't have to go deep I can go a little bit shorter and just make those easy plays underneath grabs it in the [Applause] middle brings up second Boston College wants to play [Applause] Fast out of the gun they give to the back that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there the big defensive tackles in the middle they're not always the best pass rushers but they are strong strong and I say Country Strong they put their hands on you you feel it they lock people out on the line of scrimmage they create separation they wrap running backs up and usually they don't get out of the midst of those big boys he'll try to pick it up on the ground and they did not let him get to that first down line it'll bring up a call here well it's Fourth and short and you're sort of in no man's land at this point near Midfield I think if you're on off offense here you're going to have to go for it you're going to have to show confidence in your guys to get it done and go get you the win on fourth down he'll try to toss it finds his man enough for the first and he's knocked down but not before moving the chains that's a great example of the receiver knowing exactly where the first down marker is he got the depth he needed to get so once he was able to make the catch he already knew he had it and now a fresh set of DS this Boston College offense has it working they run the reverse and you got to love this if you're the defensive coordinator because your defense stayed disciplined they didn't over pursuit of the running back they stayed home played great with their eyes and they were able to make the tackle they'll try to overcome that last play on second and 15 caught in the back field It's Bradley and good coverage by the defense just a short game screen pass just not working there and you figure at this point of the game trailing you're going to have to be more aggressive and take some shots you usually run screen passes when you think there's going to be a blitz but because the defense has the lead they're just sitting back and playing big zones seventh play of the drive coming up but a long way to go on third down dropping back it's castios just had to get rid of that one to save the yardage on third down third and long situations are really hard to convert the defense knows it's going to be pass the pass rushers are getting up field you're under pressure you don't have timing and as a result now fourth down Boston College lining up to punt this one away they may have to pay him overtime he's punting for the fifth time today he'll get away another punt he's been really active today and no doubt he's going to earn his varsity L and they'll get him down after the return at the 27 yd Line North Carolina has it back in the tarel so pleased to send the offense back out snags a quick pass on the left and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short game I like the idea by the quarterback there you're trying to get this first down so you find the tight end see if he can make a guy miss or shake a tackle not able to get it done time is on their side and they're going to wind that play clock all the way [Applause] down grabbed in the middle it's Blackwell nice pitch and catch there and they'll have enough for the first down I'll tell you man I love quarterbacks that have arm talent but that can throw it accurately at the same time and you saw all of it on that in rout from the 39 yd line it's first and 10 he's looking to throw it fires to the middle all kinds of room to throw that one in there the defense got caught that time and they finally get him on the ground at the 41 you know what's interesting at this point of the game with the lead in the fourth quarter the defense is expecting them to run the ball and because they're putting so many guys close to the line of scrimmage they're taking advantage throwing it two straight completions now backto back they'll keep it on the ground they want this clock to move and they just can't Square him up and he gets down to the 36 no reason to do anything here except keep it on the ground on second and five give to the running back and he's able to shed one tackle but still just a very short gain defense uses a timeout quickly trying to cut that ball back and preserve time for their offense here on third down will they go back to the running game Johnson wants to throw it pocket starts to collapse quick timeout call by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense and a great job by the defense dropping in zone coverage all eyes on the quarterback taking away the options and then the finally the pass rush gets home gets him on the ground fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way offense getting set for first down [Applause] they'll come out on this drive and let it rip grabbed over the middle it's mcowan they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker com I think in this situation 2 minutes trailing late I think you got to be thrown to the sticks every time I don't know if these short completions are going to get it done you're just not going to have enough time to get down the field so from a play calling standpoint I think you want to think about being a little bit more aggressive he wants to pass it on second down snagged in the middle It's Bradley he's there to make the stop but the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on the throwing catch you know the defense they just haven't been able to find an answer for this guy throughout the course of the game obviously he's got two touchdowns picks up the first down there they've tried doubling him they've tried man coverage Zone coverage nothing working on defense they can't stop them looking to go up top on first down caught over the middle it's mcgall they make the stop right there good pick up and still short of the first down you're seeing a lot of confidence out of this quarterback now three for three on this two-minute drive he understands that he needs to step up if his team's going to win this game and he's playing his best football right now clock is still running and they have to get everybody lined up double time hustling to the line to stop the it's now third [Applause] down here on third down looking to throw it's castios can't make the connection on third down thanks to that tough hard-nosed pass defense and now it's Fourth Down after that incompletion there is so much pressure now on this quarterback to come up with a big play they need to score a touchdown they need to keep this drive alive to have any shot at winning this game but it all comes down to this play right here on fourth down they'll run it looking for the first they'll stop him short just what they needed as they get the ball back for their offense and they'll take a
