Jack Flaherty, Logan Gilbert, the pitching matchup in the series finale, Dodgers going for the sweep, two pitchers among the top 10 in earned run average. Logan Gilbert's fifth, Jack Flaherty, he's eighth Flaherty making his fourth start. Says joining L A at the trade deadline from Detroit six total innings against the A's in his Dodger debut, seven runs over his last two games. He's given up a couple of home runs in both those games trying to get back on track today against the Seattle Mariners club that is fighting for its playoff life is hanging by a three, another 3 to 2 to really. And he can't lay off back to the breaking ball strike. Three, Jeff has been throwing that pitch a lot more since coming to L A blow a fastball by Rodriguez. Not as much movement but it was right past it. Two up and two down here comes Cal Raleigh Raley on the ground to second kevin 123 1st. And so the mission accomplished in this first inning for Fleury with his start, two, 96. a over 25 starts for Logan's been terrific. We all know that 155 strikeouts over 29 walks. So leads off the bottom of the first for the Dodgers swing and a miss at a pitch in on the hands of show strike three. So right away Logan has his first strikeout of the night, sat down in front of Mookie bat , a high ball into right center field, plenty of room for canzone and Raley. Raley playing center tonight gets over there in plenty of time to make the catch and Mookie flies out swing and a miss by freeman for strike three , a couple of strikeouts for Logan Gilbert and he takes care of the Dodgers 123, randy Rosa leading off the top half of the second. This is laced down the line short wall and this is just man just foul. He hit it just to the left of the foul pole and over the short wall, it was a line drive hit about 331 feet, the wind up and again, the 2 to 2 inside and that hits a Rosa Rena right in the side. Randy just standing there glowing right at Flaherty. He's just standing staring at Jack Flaherty in the home plate umpire in front of randy Jeremy Riggs and now Rose arena softly tosses the bat off to the right and will slowly walk it up the first base line toward the bag, one on and one away for the Mariners here in the top half of the second. Listen to applause for the former Dodger Justin Turner. There goes Arose Arena and he slides into second base. He's been itching a run. So that hit by pitch now stands in at second ball in a shallow left center field, falling fast. That's going to drop in a base hit Randy around third will put on the brakes, goes back to the bag up with the ball. Tommy Edmond, the throw home. So a base hit for Justin Turner and the Mariners have runners at 1st and 3rd with one out. There's Dom Canzone with runners on the corner. He goes after the first pitch. Kiermaier cutting across to his right. He is able to make the catch. Zarna can waltz home to canzone being very aggressive and he sends a sack fly out to center field. The Mariners are on the board. It's 1 to 0 in the second inning. Bottom half of the second. Here's Hernandez leading things off swing and a miss offspeed pitch. There's the splitter for strike three strikeout number three for Logan Gilbert. It's been a very tidy start for Logan Gilbert up and sits down four strikeouts early on for the All Star Rose arena who was hit by a pitch last inning, stole second wound up scoring on a sacrifice fly. One of the things Jack Flaherty has done at a high level since coming to the Dodgers is finding his way out of these situations from his first start off the end of the bat to right. Jack Flaherty is going to get out of this bet. Waits on it. More words, benches are clearing. He had a few words with Flaherty. Mariners came out, Dodgers came out, umpires a great job to get out there and I like what Flaherty did, he said, screw this and he just walked off this. Get out of here. Nobody needs that. Two up and two down in the third acquisition. Kevin bounces the first one up. The middle Dodgers their first base runner. That means gets the ball aboard. Takes ball four back to back to our base runners. So it gets Mookie Betts to the plate. 361. That's top five in the national league with runners in scoring position. Gilbert's first pitch to Mookie Betts. He's come through again with a screamer to the corner piers in to score. Head for the, he'll score without a throw. Bring up the catcher Will Smith got off to a terrific start retiring the first eight takes in the dirt that one gets by and Hernandez evens the third, which is no small thing here with one away. Got some work to do now. Drawn in infield 21 Dodger lead one out Will Smith. The hitter tagged out to center Raley showing his numbers racing back at the wall and makes the catch and leaves a dent. He is slow to get up to Oscar Hernandez scores on a sacrifice fly, a tremendous effort and catch by Luke Raley two outs in the fifth innings, 80 pitches and he's ready to face Julio Rodriguez representing the tying run out of this curve. He strikes out Rodriguez for the second time tonight. That curveball has been pretty good tonight from Flaherty one away for Otani kicking a 3 to 1 the spot right center. He got to hit and it throws on the breaks along single. There he goes and he's got his 39. He is going to take third here on a wild pitch. Logan trying to work out of a jam here in the bottom of the fifth inning with Otani on at third that brings up Freddie Freeman, the ball to right center Freeman hustles out of the box heads for second double Dodger runners just advancing on a number of wild pitches and Logan still having a rough time trying to get the field on the splitter, the slider and the count is full now and Hernandez had three balls and two strikes by rebounds. A nine P out bet. Hernandez puts it in play and drives in Freddie Freeman and for only the third time in 26 starts this year, Logan Gilbert fails to complete five innings 5 to 1. Dodgers with the lead and go pick on and belted down the right field line that's headed for the corner scores. Here comes lux behind them. They're going to wave home. Will Smith, here's the relay. It's late and Max Munsey greets the new Mariners reliever with a bases clearing, double with two outs. It is now 8 to 1. Dodgers Flaherty pitches into the sixth inning with an 8 to 1 lead. Pretty good performance for Flaherty tonight. He is in line for his 10th victory of the season. He gets a standing ovation. The Mariners will have a pitch hitter up there and Dillon Moore top half of the sixth inning bases loaded two outs and here he comes. And if it's taken down low ball four, that will work scores everybody up 90 ft, 8 to 2 ball game, two, strike, three run scores. But they leave the bases loaded. It's 8 to 2, middle 61 out for the Mariners here in the top of the eighth and that will bring up Don Canzone Edmond, a race to second on the first. Not in time. Canzone is able to leg it out. Rona scores Mitch Hager to lead things off a ride out to center field and this is gone. What a tee shot off the bat of Mitch Hanniger. A pinch hit home run gave up on that early. Looks like he's going to get a fastball out over the plate. Yeah, that's right on the barrel 422 ft. I can hit the ball much harder than that. And the Mariners down to their last out tonight, it's the ball game and that's a sweep Dodgers sweep the Seattle Mariners. They've won 10 of 13.
