REACTION! Coops Saw THIS With Oklahoma Sooners Win Over Temple Owls | OU Football

what's up everybody it's your boy cop here again with unfair Sports and um you know it is that time of the year and I'm not talking about Christmas time it's football season it's back and uh last night we got a chance to be in attendance Jay and I were both uh there we made our way around campus Corner um throughout the stadium so if you uh were one of the folks that we got to connect with to take photos with and everything you know I appreciate you guys I love your support and just ask for you to uh continue to support and share us but um let's get talking about the game so U wins the game 51 to3 and in general I can say this is I have questions going into the season going into this game um with the opponent being Temple my number one question was what uh are we going to be able to be undeniably better on defense in the trenches um and so I can say this is that that that box is checked this defense is as advertised it was fast it was nasty it had competitive depth and you know what to do with that one but it had the the the the first teamers the backups U the rotation guys everybody was uh you know Fast and Furious coming in and there was not drop off it was great I I love seeing um this team you you know instructing each other I think at one point uh Kobe reached up and um scoot over one of the defensive linemen and then went and made a tackle in His Ho because it was assignment based scheme and assignment based football and Jay got excited about it and I just had a big smile on my face so um man kudos to the defense uh yeah you're you're playing base defense that was the big question is you know are we going to be beat them yes but our poor defenses in the past had also done the same thing uh gone out there and beat inferior uh um opponents but um our offense was always just running away with it and so you forced them to be something other than what they were uh when that was the case uh this was just the case of the defense lining up and doing what they wanted to do you forced six turnovers almost a seventh um you know with the uh with the Billy in interception that was reversed or I guess overturned whatever um so six turnovers um that was an absolute just uh you know a great great great piece of work from this from this team uh let's start with the defensive tackles so defensive tackles they they consistently changed the line of scrimmage um if it was a rush up field or if it was just a catch um you know it looked like the defensive tackles were doing what they were supposed to do um throughout the whole game and they actually changed the line of scrimmage so much at times that it was hard for the Defenders the defensive ends to get home because the edge guys were their second after the interior guys so um you know if you had any questions about the staff's um you know um assessment of Jaden Jackson go ahead and uh let's go ahead and squash that right now um this was this was a great day for Jaden Jackson um you know it's historic in some senses but he went out there and he did some really really good things and there were a couple times uh I saw him do an under moove and just completely come free it was a very very quick release but I mean if that's a if that's more of a you know four-step drop five-step drop uh Jaden Jackson getss a sack um you he consistently held his own in the line of scrimmage on in the Run game um you know I think I saw the stat it was you know 1.9 yards per carry um so I mean you got to think that that was a a good assessment a good evaluation uh with Jaden Jackson being the starter and that takes nothing again away from the next F guy which is DJ Terry DJ Terry was uh also staying staying very very um active um DJ Dominic Williams those guys continued just to be uh very very hard to push around um they did not lose those battles they kept in the rotation and so I love what I saw of them but then uh you had Grayson Halton Grayson Halton baled out uh absolutely love Grayson uh champ Sanders was in pretty early um and he held his own and then you got to see the flashes from David Stone uh you know saw David Stone getting off the bus and you know to me it looked like you know the moment was finally here for him and it L I don't know if it was overwhelming or not but he was um he was definitely uh very emotional out there he made a play in the second half and he got the you know got the crowd riled up and so um you know happy just across the board for the defensive uh tackle room um then on the defensive ends Ethan DS just continues to be Ethan DS uh R Mason Thomas is back and this is uh I I feel very very very hopeful for what he's going to be able to do in the SEC if you pair you know what he did last night and some of that explosiveness that he showed off the edge um it just it was terrific also kayen woard looks like he um you know continually was just a second away uh from the defensive tackle just blowing up everybody in front of him um there were several times that he was very very um I guess involved in uh gting tackling in the back field so uh with the defensive line just in general great play across the board um and then you go to the linebackers and I gotta say star of the games probably Kobe McKenzie for myself um Kobe baled out but that room with Danny Kip uh Lewis Carter our Crimson missile he was out there and he was just you know he was making plays and it was fun to watch that whole crew and I you know I can I can genuinely say that uh that for some of linebackers right there um you know with your mic and your will guys they are going to be a a force and there's not going to be drop off you know between those guys you got you saw guys um you know filling holes meeting the running back meeting the the quarterback on the quarterback run game in the hole and so those those four um it's they're going to be they're going to be a very very very bhood um you know unit here in the SEC and uh deservedly so um looking at the cornerback uh you know the starting you had canine Walker and Dez Malone um you know I like this because both of those guys are 61 and 62 and um these guys are both uh you know they're they're big individuals and so the days of us having a 59 quarterback trying to cover a you know a 6 foot5 wide receiver uh it feels like those things are gone uh you add Gentry Williams in there who um you know he did SP play sparingly but he got out there just not much was asked of them outside of just uh you know keeping short coverage you know late in the game everybody just Tred to keep everything in front of um jacoba Johnson got a bunch of run and good playing experience for him because again now this defense does not know what the offense is doing and it is pure reaction at this point uh scheme recognition coverage recognition so I gotta say the cornerback room wasn't tested downfield um they didn't have time to get that uh you know to happen uh it looks like they did pretty good uh tackling in space so uh love the defensive room uh safeties same same thing uh pton Bowen uh not really uh not really needed much um I didn't see much where he you know had any type of coverage options you know he came up and supported the line of scrimmage but I think that Billy Bowman and rsj uh really had more of those opportunities both of those guys were hitting guys hard Billy nilly P pilled U the interception um you know I got to think that that's a football move but um you know I saw the saw people you know tying shots at uh Billy saying that J would caught it and so that's kind of a fun thing to be able to do but but um you know it looks great again I I've mentioned this time after time after time that the safety room has gone from an absolute just liability to one of the strongest units in not only on our team but I I think in college football um also you mix in the uh with the cheetah and the younger kids uh iGo um and kall Dolby BOGO uh and Powers um guys the future is bright uh Omigo um I saw a lot of stuff him I saw some stuff that he probably needs to work on some tackling space and some angle situations I think he had a couple misses but um when when he comes in I mean he he just looks the part you don't know if he's a safety you don't know if he's a linebacker he he's just got great size my player of the week on defense is has got to be kindall Dolby just o overall though uh kindall Dolby is a guy that everybody forgets about nobody remembers about Kendall Dolby uh you know when in the grand scheme of things when a lot of folks are talking about this defense um you know and it's not because of any disrespect I think it's just that there's so many different guys that are key components on this defense but kendel doy uh looked great um you know when he was coming up on you know the very few blitzes that we did um his just responsibility was the quarterback at times and so he was the uh the even up man so he made the blitz um he looked great in coverage uh very very excited my my kind of haha moment and I kind of let I let KD know about it is when the intercep happened uh he was so frustrated that he didn't rip the ball out of the hands of that wide receiver and pick it off himself that I don't even know how long it took for him to realize that uh that we had picked off the ball and I I believe it was Kai but um or or Dez one of the corners got it but it just it made me laugh because I was watching him out on the field and I knew we were going to have a conversation about that eventually so uh I'll let you guys know what he says about that but no it was a uh it was a great great day for this defensive unit um you know you saw Reggie Powers I third come in uh pretty early you know at the safety spot when you know more of the reserves were coming in uh looked great in coverage looked good coming up and supporting the line of scrimmage um but um we just continue to say that uh the Boogey Man cometh uh Baba Yaga is is real Michael boganowski Jr this guy is going to um he he is going to hurt somebody and hopefully it's the other team more often uh than himself but um this guy has that that certain kind of uh mix of tenacity aggression and craziness that we haven't seen since Brandon everage uh everage was a guy who came up and you thought man this guy's arm was going to fall off at some point in his life I'm hoping now with sports medicine being where we're at and his dad helping him you know kind of keep things in um he just he he he was in second play of the game and he had the loudest hit of the nights and it was uh it was one that everybody was was laughing about in the stands everybody's looking around everybody knew that that was coming once he came onto the field um seeing some of the Special Teams coverage he did a great job too so let's go to special teams I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this one um you know if you guys hop down in the comments let me know what you think about those defense stuff as I'm going through the Special Teams pieces uh but I'll say this is special teams looked great you cause a turnover which creates a touchdown um so you get a you know you get a punt uh you know punt fumble and return uh you know Jaren Panic um you know great job by him on that point uh caused by Lewis Carter the Crimson missile um so you know that's uh when your special teams can outscore the other team uh that's that's a winner winner chicken dinner all day long um we got ourselves a field goal kicker and that is an absolute surprise that was one of my second questions is you know when you get the opportunities no excuses I don't care who the competition is it is go out there and kick it through the uprights um we got a kicker and and I'm excited about that hitting a 50 yarder uh you know upper 40 and then I think one of them was right around the 20 yard Mark man I I just I'm excited about this Kelner is going to be a great asset I don't know if that battle's now closed uh but uh you know if I were him I'd just continue to uh to practice during the uh during the week uh stay humble um and don't kick fast food because that seems to be uh something you don't want to do around here so also shout out to the teacher I don't know if any saw it on the TV but I had a fourth grade teacher who went for the Chick-fil-A kick uh she almost got it um absolutely was rooting for her my wife is a teacher so uh but she she had great form uh you know she didn't burn the ground she uh she almost got to the uprights but um you know that's the only field goal that was missed uh by us last night uh but shout out to her you know if anybody can help her find uh you know help her help me find her let me know because I definitely want to uh you know send her a Chick-fil-A gift card just for uh for being a teacher and support our teachers out there um so now let's get to the offense I I I'll start out by saying this I'm in the car driving uh to PG's house last night and um George Stoya tweet pops up on my phone that um during the presser that Brent venal says you know it was by Design we didn't push the ball downfield you know you know on purpose I'm going to go ahead and take the coaching staff at their word because Jay and I talked through most of the night and a lot of the folks around us that it just looked like we were there was there was some kind of plan it was I I didn't understand it um and and here is my theory around this is I'm going to trust the coach at his word Brent vinales is an honest guy and if you've watched the interviews with the parents um I don't think that there's anything that shows me that I need to distrust him on these pieces but when you don't push the ball down field after that first drive faroo catches that ball um I don't know if that's the one where he you know broke his foot because I you know I've watched most of the game over again and he was in for two or three more plays he was blocking the very next play on a throw to Burks so um get to that more in a minute but it looks like in that that that first drive where we scored the first touchdown to Bowers sharp we did pretty much what we wanted outside of the uh the the short yardage even though we picked up the fourth down conversion you know we got about a yard and a half and you know it just that that was the first point that I was a little concerned um but it it feels to me that the coaching staff after that point was like Jackson got hit on that throw to to Farooq um now he stepped up in the pocket and he did what he was supposed to do it was a dime I just I wonder if that point the coaching staff maybe said okay that's what we can do um Jackson Arnold obviously has had a lot of questions around himself with you know throwing in the middle of the field throwing in traffic uh making the right decisions not putting the ball In Harm's Way and to me my my my theory here is that's what we felt like with the patchwork offensive line that we could really really work on with Jackson and and work that out and so from Jackson Arnold you know the the the yards per attempt was not very high um I think that's for two reasons number one the design of that piece but then also with we kept on getting turnovers we had short Fields almost the entire time so um that's kind of where I'm going with that one is Jackson looked great um yeah he had four drops uh two bad ones JJ Hester um but I think Brennen Thompson had one Andel Anthony maybe had another one but he had four drops he still had a great stat line he still throws four touchdowns if I come to you before the uh the show starts and say hey we're going to we're going to cover the spread Jackson's going to throw four touchdowns in an opening game nobody is going to go no Coupe I don't like it so I am GNA say Jackson looked great um I do I do think that he got some opportunity to put some stuff on some film to learn from a decision standpoint on you know RPO uh decisions and you know stepping up in the pocket and running so those are coachable pieces that that I think you can work with him on but um the the uh one thing that really just you know caught my attention is the the the pass I mentioned a few seconds ago right after the bomb to Faro um he uh he had a you know a quick snap step turn and throw to Burks and that ball is just different it's just absolutely different the arm strength is a different level than you know what we've had with Dylan Gabriel um it looks a little bit more like the Spencer Rattler arm strength that we saw you know when he was young so I you know I am very very excited about Jackson he still has things to do and um he needs to stay error free because if we are going to be navigating through offensive line issues uh via just poor play or injury he needs to optimize every single opportunity that we have um again this was a very very vanilla offense there was not a lot of uh substance to it there was not a lot of trickery with it it was essentially lineup go and play so I I I say this is that's a great that's a great piece for Jackson Arnold the running game um the inst stats make it look a lot better than than it is and that's that it just is what it is and that's the truth and I I want to be truthful with everybody but from that fourth down conversion with Sawchuk on the first touchdown drive that's when I realized that whatever's going on I'm not not too I'm not motivated by then Hickman gets rolled up on sprains his ankle it's a high ankle sprain um you know if he was a skill position guy you know I'm worried about that quite a bit more um but he still has to move around a lot so um I I mean I I I just I expect it to be probably two to three weeks if that's the case uh this training staff is phenomenal and I'm not ever going to you know question that I'm going off of my ankle sprains and just what you see you know in Pro Sports so if it is a high ankle sprain that takes a little bit longer if it's a lower ankle sprain I mean like I said the training staff at Oklahoma is is phenomenal so we might not see him next week um if he is back then you know I'm all for it and I would love to see bransen Hickman back um you already had two other starters out at the snap of the football and so now I'm not too happy with how you had to rotate some guys around um that that was Patchwork I'll start with tarwin I think Tarin um there wasn't anything except ex I don't think that I saw anything where he did phenomenal but then I don't think that I don't think I saw anything that just continually concerned me with him I don't know what the situation is with with getting the push for this offensive line it almost looked like they just caught people and it's almost looked like they allowed pressure and if if that's by Design if that's a coaching tactic I you know I'm going to trust them I've never coached you know D1 college football so uh coach Bebo is the guy that I say uh you know is the best in the business but um you know so that's where I'm going with this is I don't think that um this offensive line had a good day it was bad um and um you know there's the old adage for USPS and what can Brown do for you my package arrived and it was bad it was it was it was it was beat up it was bruised it was dented in and I'm GNA have to contact the carrier uh Spence Brown just had a bad day can he become better if anybody can get him to become better and play better we've got the man to do that I don't know if I give him the complete ax right away because I mean you're going to need him at some point and that's the big that's the piece that concerns me is we can't say well it was a coaching tactic or well these were the you know these were the backups we had injur they're going to play at some point this year so you need these guys to really have a come to Jesus meeting with themselves internally and not as a group but internally every single one of those offensive linemen needs to go in and say I can do better and you need to give it more um there were times that multiple guys look lost I mean every single one of them there nobody is exempt from this uh you know I say bless Jacob seon's Heart Like the guys you know playing three different positions at different points so next week if you get get um uh if you get Taylor Jake Taylor back U maybe that's something to help out I don't know where Everett is um you know but again I just say this is those guys are still going to all play at some point so everybody has to get back and grind it out this week for Houston Houston is a step up in Talent it's a step up in athleticism and they have better players so you cannot do this every single week will things be available to this team from a from an offensive standpoint um you know going forward that are going to help out versus you know trying to go completely vanilla yesterday yes there are going to be more things but I just say this is that offensive line has to get better so there has to be some internal um discussion going on with each one of them together and say do if I want to do this and if I want to achieve some of the goals that we this team has it starts with me so um I I I I'll leave it there with the offensive line because we all saw what we saw and when we finally started running the ball a little bit later in the game I'm also going to say this guys like don't don't do the you know don't give all the accolades to those guys and say that they played so much better those guys you know you're playing into the game a lot of these guys are backups or have been spent by just getting you know playing the entire game game one um it did look better um when I look at those guys and I see like Taylor Tatum just running wild in the end I mean he had wide open holes where we had no holes at all at you know points earlier in the game Taylor Tatum's him the guy looks somewhere between Joe Mixon and DeMarco Murray to me and um you know those are those are those are not bad comps um I'm I'm very very excited about what he offers I still think that Chuck and Barnes are your one and two uh I was very very very excited by uh by Sam Franklin um Sam Franklin was uh you know he he showed me some things he had you know up until uh Taylor Tatum you know towards the end of the um uh end of the game he had the longest run of the night uh you know coming out in the second uh second half and so um that running back room when they were given an opportunity they took it and it looked good again I say you know Sawchuk only got I think six carries but javante looked like he was running angry he looked like he was back to normal so I'm all for that um Sam Franklin same thing um really really excited to see that Tatum was as advertised that you know it's not that just that he was a St but that's kind of who he is so I I expect that an extension of the running game will come here soon maybe we see it in the next two weeks with Houston and uh Tain um maybe we wait till Tennessee where we're actually throwing the ball out to the running backs because uh you know that is going to get the ball moving guys sideline to sideline so I'm excited to see what those things are capable of um I said it earlier but when when you play with not pushing the ball down downfield you play in this box everybody can kind of Zone in so through the rest of the offense um you know you're playing with everybody near the line of scrimmage there's no threat of anybody going deep um that's that's not what you really want to do as an offense if you can help it now if again if it's by Design as the coaching staff said again I'm completely fine with that but with all that being said um Bowers sharp looks great last year we had two touchdowns from the tight end group as a whole for the entire year um he did uh you know he had touchdown in the first series of the game I think he ended with uh five catches so pretty excited Bowers sharp looks like the real deal um threw the ball a little in Jake Robert's way a couple times so expect that tied in room to to to be uh a part of this offense going forward I already talked about Barnes and Tatum and so now let's let's talk about let's talk about Burks um I'll end it with this is he is real I asked a comment in in our Discord or asked asked an opinion in our Discord that it was Burks going to be 80 plus touches this season I think it's safe to say that um that's that's that's toast also 10 touchdowns was my prediction for him I think we're safe to say that he's going to have a few more than those Burks is going to be on bitof watch list most overreactions after game one or series one should be tempered I don't think this is one of them you know if this guy Contin to stay healthy this is not a super slight receiver who one big hit and is going to you know have a situation or an injury with him um you know don't quote me on the numbers but I think he squats in the 500 550 range and benches 400 pounds um you know the guy is jacked so he is an allpurpose he looks like a shorter Debo Samuel um so I'm really really excited about um about him this year I I mean I now think that I'm you know you may have to start taking a look at maybe 15 plus touchdowns 120 plus Touches for Dion Burks um if the wide receiver room continues to uh take hits like they have at this point you know it may be a requirement but you get Nick six back next week um you see a little bit more Health um there were a lot of other guys that played but you know I've gone long enough here on this on this so uh I appreciate you guys pulling in um again let me know what you think in the comments and and I just say this is do not overreact to one week if there's anything that I've seen year after year after year is some really really piss poor offensive line play and then four weeks later we've got our stuff figured out uh we are in the 12 team College playoff era now um a lot of teams are going to do stuff you know in a different manner one loss is not going to kill your season I don't expect us to lose in the next couple weeks I still have an expectation that we'll have stuff figured out for for Tennessee but let me know what you think in the comments um you know let's let's let's try to you know look at this thing from a macro aspect and perspective I do want to hear your concerns uh I don't think anybody should be fired uh the only I don't think anybody should never see the field again at this point uh but I do think that uh you know you now have fullon tape it's a coachable opportunity uh you don't know what the Tendencies are with the guy lined up across from you so uh expect to see more and more things turning around so uh hit up there also if you uh if you if you guys like seeing the AIO content um help us out by sharing it with your friends uh hit the like button the Subscribe button these things are what uh you know really drive us so I appreciate you guys pulling up Jay and I are GNA be live tomorrow night and we'll talk uh maybe PG will be joining with us but we'll be talking a little bit more about the game looking forward towards uh the next week but until then appreciate you guys for pulling up for unfair Sports and we'll talk to you soon a [Music]
