Ley in California Memorial Stadium where this crowd has been in since early in the day saying you know it you tell the story you tell the whole world that this is bear territory this match up today part of the lifeblood of the sport a rivalry game where the results will be remembered for a lifetime as we'll see a team coming off a crucial by week the UCLA Bruins squaring off with another team from the Pack 12 the Cal Golden Bear for EA Sports college football I'm Rees Davis David poock and Jesse Palmer with me Bruins will get us underway with the opening kickoff looking for an alley from inside his own 10 couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 so the Cal Golden Bears offense will start this game off and the adrenaline is pumping on overdrive in games like this guys and it's crucial to get your emotions under control no doubt in rivalry games you've got to limit the mental errors and you've got to limit the penalties cuz those will kill you p and you got to come out under control it means so much we know that the fans are all talking about it but it's just for them they'll run the option he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see what the call is holding amazing how many times an offensive holding penalty will stall a drive we'll see if the offense can overcome it to throw it's Rogers gets it out fast and they pick up just a few on that completion a third and long coming up here he's looking downfield to throw unleashes it working that left side and they'll finally catch up to him but not before a big chunk of yardage is picked up know this offense knew coming into the game they were going to get some opportunities to take shots down the field they feel like they've got the guys in the perimeter to win one-on-one and you saw it right there they'll stop him at the 41 but he's got 10 yds and they'll move the chains and the Golden Bears headed quickly to the line first down wants to throw on first down off the play fake forced out of the pocket we anticipate this one being much tighter than the last time these two met when it was a blowout David and here's the thing you got an opportunity right now you got the football early in this game to show you this is going to be more of the same Palmer well we talked to both coaching staffs and players and they're all very aware of what happened the last time these two teams played so expect everybody's aame today Reese you're right we expect this one to be a lot tighter on third down going up top got a man it's Matthews and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down the Golden Bears will try to pin them back with the punt promising start to that drive sort of fizzled out and they'll have to punt it away and he tried to pin him deep with that punt instead it goes into the end zone it'll come out to the 20 so the UCLA Bruins offense will go to work for the first time here's this offense with a fresh set of downs out of the gun the running back has it a knock him down after a gain of three to the 23 got three on first down it's second and seven up from the shotgun the hand off to the back bars all the way to the 29 a gain of six ball spotted at the 29 here they come on Third and short quarterback checking the play the Bruins will move the sticks man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out they'll snap this one from the 30 on First and 10 they'll run run it from the gun and he fights his way forward gets away from one but not much doing on that one looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 he'll do it himself really nice stop there from this senior leader they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one back to throw it's garbers unloads to the wide out got his back found a bunch of room and got it to the 44 yd line and the Bruins have their offense in high gear they'll throw it on first down got his man on the outside they make the stop but there is a flag on the field we'll see what that's all about personal foul defense just an ill advised play by the defender to make contact with the quarterback after the throw and it cost his team knew where he wanted to go with if we couldn't find his Target it's incomplete this offense has a second down play here's a quick throw out to the left they make the stop but this passing game does some damage and they move the sticks with the first down the Bruins want to crank the tempo first unloads quickly well we knew coming into this game this offense was going to try and get this receiver involved and get him involved early so here they are just finding an easy completion it's not a touchdown but they just want to get this guy lathered up and get him into a r and the defense snows him under after a very short game third down coming he's looking to throw on Third and short he caught it and he's into the end zone touchdown UCLA UCLA they can use this first score to sort of set the tone guys in this rivalry matchup man doesn't this feel good to come out score early get the crowd involved get the nerves out of the way Palmer when you're playing in a big rivalry game yeah and I feel like momentum is always a big thing in any game but in rivalry games it's that much more important because everybody is going to feed off that first score now lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point makes it 7 nothing an impressive 66 yd touchdown drive and they cap things off with a a nyd touchdown pass here he comes from inside his own five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the Cal offense is headed back onto the field out of the gun they'll run it inside now after that run there in pretty good shape at the 30 yd line 8- yd pickup on first down leaves them with second and short from the gun they'll try to impose their will and he's tripped up but not before picking up the first down no huddle here for the offense got it in the middle it's Matthews he's brought down but there's a flag on the plan let's see if it's stand look def a late hit moves the ball up 15 yds three yards first down for the offense after that penalty he wants to throw fighting off the defender he's brought down solid pickup but a little bit short of the first down the completion short of the sticks it's second down it's complete on the right side the defense wouldn't let him loose and even though it's a completion they lost yardage they're facing a third down third coming up to the air it's Rogers finds a soft spot in the middle ripping off a good chunk inside the 25 and they're set up with a first down the slant route is such a versatile route right you can throw it against man coverage Zone coverage third and short third and medium it works against a lot of different defenses and this guy I love throwing and the Golden Bears will hustle to the line he'll pull it on the read and a nice solid pick up there before the defense wrestles him to the ground already in field goal range but now trying to convert this third and long from the 20 he'll try to pop the draw smashes through went to the running game on third down and picked up five but still a couple of yards short it's Fourth and two someone not clear on the snap count it'll be a false start and they'll move it back false start the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty they'll play it safe and send out the field goal unit it is true as he puts three on the board that UCL after putting three on the board the kickoff unit ready to go and no chance at a return here they'll start this drive at their own 25 first down here for the offense they'll run it from the gun tackle is made at the 28 after a pickup of three after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven back to pass it's garbers fires left got him downfield he's brought down but there there's a flag on the field let's see which way that's going to go pass defense late hit on the quarterback gives this offense a free first down and some yardage looking to move it through the air a strike downfield and they'll finally bring him down after he rips off a huge play 25 on the play first down for the offense he'll come out throwing on first down receiver looks it in it's complete they get him stopped at the 5 yd line but it will be first and goal from there on the doorstep of cashing it in for the offense from the gun fires to the end zone touchdown breu and they'll put that scoreboard operator to work and put six on the board defense has to be better on the back end they knew this offense was going to come out and they were going to challenge them they were going to try to push the ball vertically down the field they've now given up two touchdown passes in this game they've got to shore up their play in the back half they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point makes it 143 quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and the score comes on a 5yd touchdown pass from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 Cal gets it back the sturdy Golden Bear offense on its way to the field from the gun leaves it on the inside with the back maybe picked up a couple he's down at the 24 the goal Golden Bears in the hurry up dropping back it's Rogers and that pass will be Jarred loose on second down that brings up third down they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here on Third and long he has to throw for it grabbed in the middle it's Matthews and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way he'll call for the fair catch here they'll Cristen this drive from the 28 yd line they'll come out on this drive and let it rip grabbed in the back field it's Harden well he comes up with the reception but not a lot of room to run after that yeah and I like the QB doing this I mean I'm going to find ways to give him the football and see if he can make a miss and I'm going to bet most of the time that my guy is a little bit more athletic than that defensive guy defense won this battle but I like trying to get this guy the ball in space third it'll be a run on Third and short just a Savvy veteran productive run from this junior and the Bruins will have it first and 10 all right look at I know the defense was feeling real good about their run de coming into this one and how they've been playing up to this point but finally David the offense breaks through and they finally generate something positive on the ground and I can't tell you how easy it is when you're going to throw the ball consistently and I know it I'm going to pin my ears back and I'm going to get to the quarterback it makes life really easy on a defensive line but when you can have balance now the defense doesn't know what's coming they need more this if they're going to be successful on offense across the 15 nothing but green ahead and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes the stop first the back to throw it's garbers he got it he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see what the call is personal fou the pass defense I bet it felt good to hit that quarterback late until you got an earful from the coach and cost your defense 15 slams ahead and he takes it to the a superhero to make the grab and the Golden Bears want to move quickly man I I love those guys that are willing to put their body on the line and he does it right here man just lays out that Ball's coming in you can see it from several yards out making that play laying out keeping the football from touching the turf great concentration great effort by the receiver here comes the offense on second down y we have the early makings of a quarterback duel as these stats will show you this could be a pivotal moment in this game as we open the second second period and they try to find a way to answer receiver wasn't ready for the throw incomplete after the second down misfire looking at a third and eight they want to just keep throwing it he looks that one in nicely they make the stop but there is a flag on the field we'll see what that's all about person defense that was right on the borderline you want to make that quarterback feel you but the official thought it was a little too much the roughing the passer penalty he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple they'll try to snap it quickly second down coming up it'll be a draw stumbled to the ground headed to the line at the 23 trying to convert this third and short third coming up looking to throw for it oh they really could have used that catch their physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down they'll try to cap off this drive and it's a f a little trickery and they flip it ahead and they thought they could pull off the surprise well the surprise was on them a stop boy you look smart when it works out but when it goes a you are left to second guess yourself banging slithering whatever it takes to get that ball up to the 32 got eight on first down now looking at a second and two they'll leave it with him a pick up of five marked it at the 36 yd line now from the 36 yd line it's first and 10 dropping back it's garbers and the physical play there forces the incompletion on first down they'll line up for a second down play wide out in motion trying play action fires to the wide out he makes a catch and he's brought down after a nice game the Bruins have this offense rolling and that's a first down for the off leaves it with the back at the 35 he's loose what a Nifty run there to pick up the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs oops someone moved just a bit early and the offense is going to pick up a penalty all start so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty after the 5yd step off first and 15 for this offense and they'll finally bring him down down after he rips off a huge play and the Bruins with the first and 10 for the here's the handoff pushes and picks his way ahead for six yds he's down at the eight going to work in the Red Zone they can't pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone looking to throw on second down takes the easy one to the back and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able will wedge it back to the line of scrimmage oh and they'd love to pick up this conversion and go to work with they first and goal shotgun snap wants to throw it on third caught near the sticks it's stur touchdown breu it reeled it in and just made the house call have a day young fell I foresee some social media posts in his future not one not two but three receiving touchdowns on the day what a ball ball game Pat unit on the field on for the extra point and the extra point gives him a 283 lead so an 82 yd drive there and they finish things off with an eight- yd toss for the score he'll bring it back looking for help and they'll bring him down to get the offense started on the next Drive they'll try to put a drive together starting from their own 12 from the gun give on the inside finds his way ahead for six and a little breathing room to the 17 6yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four they'll try the Run wrestled to the ground after picking up the first down after picking up this first down on the ground let's see what they do and that's up first down used the play fake now to throw looking left it's caught he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense and that is another fires to the big fella at the 45 on it way and oh he was Off to the Races after the catch and they finally drag him down and a first got his man quickly and that's a very productive first down play bringing up second and three at the 35 y l second down coming up they'll run it from the gun open space at the 25 he is run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the STi for a first down defensively you'll take the slow down you'll take three four five yards a pop but you can't give up the massive plays you got to do a better job maining the football making them run the guys and get him on the ground for goodness sakes this guy is fast I know but defensively we got to swarm to the football get him on the ground brings up second got and he goes out of bounds after coming up with positive yardage there we've made our way to the two-minute warning and now they'll try to at least cut a little something off of this lead before the break fires into the end zone and it's caught touchdown count man really nice job attacking the middle of the field you see those safeties man I want to split them he splits it right down the middle throws that post right on the numbers catches the ball in the end zone touchdown getting set for the point aage and the extra point cuts the lead to 2810 about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown 2 10 he'll bring it out from inside his own 10 not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 UCLA will go back to work on offense quickly to the tight end finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with the first down a new set of downs after the completion looking downfield it's garbers all kinds of room to throw that one in there oh look out there he goes and they were looking for a chunk play and they got it the explosive picks up more than 30 love the individual effort by the wide receiver after the catch making people Miss showing you the speed now he set up his offense down in the red zone this offense just gets a bolt of energy when they get a play like that now they're in the Red Zone first and 10 from the 20 trying to cap this drive with the pass he let that thing fly quickly but he couldn't make the connection now on second down after the incompletion they go back up top touchdown UCLA and they add six more to the board with that trip to the house number 9 in the end lining up to tack one more onto that that lead and the extra point splits the upres and they're up 35- 10 almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown 35 fielded In The End Zone it's Hunter he stopped short of the 20 at the 19 and probably wishes he' just taken the Touchback the Cal offense is headed back onto the field he wastes no time and comes out throwing that's caught it's Matthews there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer time out he's looking for an open man on second down pressure coming and that's just a flat misfire not even close to his receiver he'll try to move the chains on Third and short from the 27 scanning the field it's Rogers nice defensive play to get a hand in there and knock it away the Golden Bears will line up to punt it away it away he'll settle for some pretty good field position and make the fair catch at around the 35 offense getting set for first down he's going to pass he makes the connection and this one will be stopped for No Gain quick timeout call by the offense after the play line getting set on second down time out UCLA free- snap motion quarterback trying to get a read trying to get to it and this sophomore able to wreak some havoc and get the sack here's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half let's see what call they have on Third and long from the 28 the give from the gun and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker referee signals timeout it's the defense wanting to make sure that they have everything just right with a big play coming fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way running it back it's Hunter they'll put that return to a stop at the 33 but the offense set up in pretty good Feld position just over 20 seconds to play in the half you just don't want to make a big mistake here can't find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down after the incompletion back to the passing game going for the big play snags it down the right side ripped off a huge sharp play on that one as he gets the first down before three steps out of bounds running out of time here in the first half they're going to have to be efficient to put some points on the board before the break and a little too much adrenaline on that throw never gave his receiver a chance ball still spotted at the 34 it's second and 10 just had to get rid of that one good job to avoid the loss one more play before the teams head to the locker rooms looking to throw it's Rogers going for it all the pass Falls incomplete and that's how we'll finish this half as the end of the second first half today toughest job inside that Stadium right now might just be the scoreboard operator after all those first downs and touchdowns big plays have defined this one thanks to two of the best receiving core in all of college football let's see if these defenses can adjust and make the necessary chess moves with that let's throw it back to the guys to see how this rivalry matchup plays out on the run from inside his own five really disciplin job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 UCLA offense is back on the field ready to go to work and that incomplete pass caused by the big hit on first down second down coming after the quarterback and receiver failed to hook up they'll try it again on second down makes one man miss and he broke one tackle on the way to a solid pick up there there fairly manageable distance here on third down from the 27 third they'll try to pick it up on the ground they'll move those chains getting it out to the 29 yd line and trying to get this drive rolling the Bruins will line it up on First and 10 he's looking to throw it unloads to the wide out got a wide open receiver and the explosiveness the big Gainer gets it to the 49 yd line and the Bruins are moving quickly down the field for the off they'll throw it on first down makes the catch it's stur of it he's brought down but there's a flag on the play let's see if it stands personal fou R the defense I know Defenders hate quarterbacks and love nothing more than hitting them but you're hitting yourself in the gut when you get a 15yd penalty he's got him in the flat and good coverage by the defense just a short game that completion leaves us with second and medium back to throw it's garbers he got his hands on it but couldn't hold on to it what a time that would have been for their first pick of the game facing third and long from the 21 and hoping not to settle for a field goal he'll set up to throw they're bringing heat that pass not close as he got drilled trying to deliver it and it'll bring up fourth down so they'll send out the field goal unit it is perfect and now the leads extended a little further that makes the score UCLA 38 10 that lead just keeps getting fatter in this kickoff team doing a little running here's the return from inside is 10 he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 Cal gets to back the sturdy Golden Bear offense on its way to the field they're going to throw it to start the drive snags it over the middle and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pickup and now on second down for this offense he's looking to throw makes his connection they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down passing game very effective on second down what about here on Third and with that effort they pick up a fresh set of downs they have it at the 34 yd line let's see how successful they'll be on First and 10 he wants to throw looking to the big tight end he's got an open man offense on the move a big play there gets it to the 30 well if they're going to get back in this game they need more plays like that that was something that was missing in the first half explosive plays in the passing game and they get one here trailing early in the third quarter let's see if these receivers can make more plays like that as this game goes on they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 they give it to him again what a good run there he has enough for the first down and the Golden Bears are threatening in the Red Zone they're threatening toore SC and they'll throw it it's complete to the right he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see which way that's going to go def you just can't hit the quarterback like that that is a dumb play and the defender got caught red-handed the give to the tailb and he rolls into the house touchdown golden bear this is a guy that put a lot of pressure on himself coming in this season he felt like he was ready to have a break out here he knew he had all the tools in the toolbx to be able to get it done and he's showing it that's his 10th rushing touchdown on the season ready to try the point aage splits those uprights right in half and let's check in with Kevin Conor in the studio Kevin week in and week out guys you never know what's going to happen in college football check this out UMass is in front they've LED for most of the way however Sam the minute man isn't exactly putting this one in the wind column just yet they're up by four over Missouri just another week of college football where we've come to expect the unexpected Ellis thanks for the update on that one Kevin let us know when it goes final leaves it with the bat and up they'll give it to the back that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there and this offense just has to find a way to convert this third down or else they are really in trouble it's complete and the quarterback stuck it right in the keyhole and they've got it down to the 30 yd line I was starting to think about what they would do if they didn't pick up the first down here but I guess that's a moot point now moot point for sure and the head coach coach was probably telling them four down territory we're going to kick a field goal whatever the next decision was going to be and now the OC is like don't worry about it new set of downs nice execution by this offense so the offense accepts the roughing the passer penalty and they get a new set of downs to the ground with the back brought down after a pick up of five yds down the 10 operating in the Red Zone here on second down to the air it's Rogers he's got his man and he's going to be taken down but there's a penalty flag on the field holding they say you could call holding on every play well they did on that one the give to the running back from the shotgun an attitude run as he's dragged down after a pick up of six down to the 14 they'd love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and goal on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it caught over the middle it's Brady touch down Cow and they take it in for six more points oh the offense shows some life here in cut into the lead with that score and man they needed it they had to have something to go right listen still down but this is a great start to get back in this ball now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic exra point and it's up and good so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they top it off with a 14 yd pass for the touchdown he'll bring it back from inside his SP and the returner will be knocked down UCLA will go back to work on offense after giving up that last touchdown theyve still got the lead but now feeling a little bit of pressure to answer with one of their own David and it gets a little bit tight listen we're getting later in the ball game this offense punted last last time they got to find a few plays Palmer that they really love here steal some momentum back in this ball game they do David and after watching their defense just get gashed down the field that last Drive the dream drive for this offense would be to matriculate the ball down the field eat up some clock and finish it off with a touchdown the Bruins want to pick up the tempo really nice throw there I'll tell you UCLA they've got an impressive history book of quarterbacks going all the way back to Rick neisel Troy Aman as a name people recognize Cade mcnown back in my day and then recently DTR was carving up defenses to throwing it you got to be able to make good decisions you got to be able to deliver strikes through the air and this guy right now is doing just that still on his feet at the 45 plenty of room on that play and they find their way to the 36 and the Bruins are rolling down the field well there's the offense trying to take advantage of this running back speed I like the call hand off to the left to the outside put him in space and let him go to work trying to find his man on first down gets it out quickly and that will go backwards a negative play in that defense on high alert that time love the awareness by the defense here they're trying to get the running back the ball in space but the defense was expecting it they had guys in position they located the football and they went and Game Time had to work to pick up three down to the 33 yd line looking to throw it's garbers makes the grab on the left he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see what the call is defense look you want to make the quarterback feel you you want to get pressure in his face that was so close but just a tad late some early movement along the offensive line and they'll walk it back false start and the offense will accept the penalty and move the ball forward here comes the offense on first down the RPO it's complete he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down up reads it fires complete they get him on the ground and that'll be the final play of this third period that's the end of the quarter and UCLA has the lead let's take a quick look at the national rankings to see how this playoff race is shaping up one more quarter to go and it looks as if we are ready to play really need to pick up this compersion and avoid having to settle for the field goal it's complete they'll get him stopped just short of the end over but they're in business here with a first down first UCL trying to pound their way in Into The End Zone he goes touchdown ruis boy do they need that score gave them a little cushion as they try to put a stop to this two game slide now they have extended this lead guys starting to put the hammer but sometimes a rivalry game can give you a little of extra fight back and there can be no Panic at this point now you've worked too hard this off season David they've had this game circled for so long you've got to play your best football right now and fight back and you just need something good to happen on this next possession you got to get the crowd back into this football game big rivalry get some emotion get some momentum on your side lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive coming out with it it's Hunter not nearly as much as he'd hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 the cow offense is headed back onto the field trying to start the drive with a pass finds his man down the middle and he's knocked down immediately but a good pick up on that play and the Golden Bears are in the hurry up well here's the problem offensively because you're trailing by so much so late in the game the defense now is going to be playing big Zone coverages and they're going to allow you to throw the ball underneath in the middle of the field rally to make a tackle and bleed the clock it's going to be hard now for this offense to claw their way back in this one working the middle of the field and it's complete they make the stop but there is a flag on the field we'll see what that's all about personal foul pass defense so the offense gets an automatic first down after the roughing the passer penalty looking to throw it's Rogers and he can't escape and down he goes it's pretty obvious this defense came into this one knowing they were going to have to play a complete game until there were zeros on the clock especially against this quarterback you cannot take your foot off the gas and that's exactly what they're doing here late in the fourth quarter they're still bringing it and they get another sack negative play on first down that's what a defense always wants on second down he'll fire quickly complete they stop him almost immediately short game there and still a little ground cover pick up the first brings up third down on Third and long he's going to have to turn one loose downfield a beautifully placed ball to the outside and the tow drag for the big pickup the Golden Bears have it with a first and 10 and that play just shows you this quarterback trusts his his more points they push out this lead in the fourth quarter and it might be enough to give this that elusive second win of the season it's another good decision by the quarterback you've got to be impressed here on that one he finds his tight end but all game long whether it's receivers or running backs or tight ends wherever the best one-on-one matchup has been he's been able to take advantage of it and that's why they've been able to score so many points lining up for the p8 for the extra point and the extra point splits the upright and they're up a full three touchdowns a 21-point cushion Ball's going to come out quick he didn't really understand where the sticks were and because of that he gives up the first down need to just be a little bit more aware as a defensive gu the defense wouldn't let him lose there and it was a completion but they lost yardage ninth play of the drive coming up but this one will be tough third and long catch in the middle it's Matthews and he runs through one tackle and picks up a few down in the fourth quarter it's too late for empty possessions they'll go for it on fourth down flushed out of the pocket and they get to him and sack the quarterback and they'll stop the drive on down he had nowhere to go with the football you could tell surveying the field somebody's got to get open to go make a play Man throw it up up run it do something you can't take a sack on fourth down you got to give somebody an opportunity to make a play for you the UCLA offense is back on the field ready to go to work this has been exactly the way you draw things up David the offense has really been moving the football and it's been great execution they've done exactly what they wanted to do build the lead now Palmer's a different anal now you got to protect you can tell they were paying attention in practice this week in the film room because they have got out everybody right now on the same page they'll run it to keep this clock grinding
