Aaron Judge & Shohei Ohtani are INSANE

Intro hello and welcome to wak and Jake myself big baby David as we talk about the World of Sports a lot a baseball to cover today between uh just the historic guys judge and Otani both had a big boy weekend I want to talk about that a little bit click um I also I want to look at the playoff picture a little bit with a month to go what it looks like and maybe what do we want to see maybe we do uh are all dream playoff and what that looks like maybe I'll talk about fantasy football I did an auction draft last night always really enjoy doing that uh always quite the scene we are officially the pathetic group of mid3 year olds are just getting sleepy by the end and it's how is this only halfway through the draft and why don't just bid that much for mcaffrey because you don't know what's going on uh old let's talk some ball first uh how about this I'll I'll start with show judge click click show shi shi um if you Shohei & Judge didn't see this it's kind of a must uh sh Otani entered the 4040 club with a walk-off Grand Slam um God that doesn't walk off Grand Slam doesn't happen a lot uh 4040 Club doesn't happen a lot uh so now it's him Ronald aunia Jr so I guess that takes a little sting out of it remember Ronnie went 40 and 68 pretty unreal season uh and with the stolen bases up I think things got a little there's the for the YouTube people you could see the Otani Homer on there wake and Jake YouTube make sure you're subscribed just out of our guy Jose series reach and we found out from Trevor ploof that the guy whose glove it went off of apparently is like a twins Super Fan ball Hawker that Trev is friends with TR just been like friends with this guy for at this point like 15 years just not really sure what that's about uh and excuse me a auna had 41 and 73 last year he had 68 at the time he hit his 40th home run uh Alfonso Sorano 2006 God I loved him A-Rod 98 uh Barry Bonds 96 Jose cono in 1988 so still a very exclusive Club um you know the kids probably know Jose cono for much different reasons now if they're familiar with Jose cono um but I it's so funny I remember you know by the time I'm getting into baseball 94 95 96 like still The Lure of how good Jose cono was uh was kind of mind bottling and he's you know maybe one of the people that got hurt more by steroids than helped I would have to talk to a doctor or someone about that because I have no clue um but bonds Rod aunia Sorano and now sh Otani uh and just a reminder for those listening sh Otani can pitch and he's rehabbing and boy oh boy is it going to be interesting it's so tough especially now knowing how media works but I also like to think I know how competitors in front offices work that you know we got video of shohi Otani throwing and my God if that guy can throw for your team come the postseason and it's I don't know I mean I realized the Dodgers have an embarrassment of riches and let's see where their team looks like um come to play play offs thrown in the Freddy Freeman shy a power move electric that's that's kind of an all alltime cool guy teammate move um I don't know I know Michael cop's been great for them uh Evan Phillips has been great for them he had a blown save over the weekend Anthony bandas put together a fantastic season but previous to his career before that he's kind of been a vagabond uh Daniel Hudson 37 and a half some great postseason memories uh Blake Tran working his way back and you know Joe Kelly will be pitching in a big six inning of a playoff game but man if Sho Otani a knowing the competitor he is like go back to the World Baseball Classic him coming out of the bullpen not insane he's technically done that before was that this year when was the WBC uh before last season last season okay that makes a little he's recovering from the surgery this year that makes a little more sense um I don't know man that's a tough that's a tough chip to have the guy who was brought in in the World Baseball Classic to be the best pitcher on the field for the final outs um if they have that those rumors are going to get so big the Dodgers are also respected enough as a franchise that I could see them just very much having it as a no no don't touch where we've already decided we're we're talking 700 mil on the table here that a postseason run which a lot of front offices do think comes down to a lot of luck and there's something right to that there's something wrong to that uh you'd be a little less you wouldn't need luck as much as if you had a healthy shotani the whole point of all of that is he just hit 4040 um I think it was on Friday so that would have been what August 23rd not good with dates um he's having an incredible season it feels like he's going to walk to the MVP Frankie Lindor is putting together an incredible season so is Marcelo Zuna but talk about a bad year to be putting together a DH season when sh is doing everything you're doing a tick better with 40 stolen bases um it's absolute Madness the watch is on for 5050 no one has ever done that um and I don't know I wouldn't bet against this guy it it seems like the homers well in theory the homers are the harder task right cuz that's there's no middle area there you either hit a home run or you do not do or do not there is no try um Yoda for the kids 40 s bases it starts turning into okay if you get on let's go even if you get caught at that point which it does deserve to be mentioned 40 stolen bases only four caught steings coming off of a year where he had 20 stolen bases half and caught stealing so like Otani and judge we get to him are in this weird breed of like it feels like they're getting better and that's not supposed to be on the table uh but in a way that's a sign of an alltime great like you keep it going I was shocked to see I think judge's career war is at 50 now B war and like that just feels wrong like people that have been people people that have been good in that same time frame you look to open up their baseball reference and be like you know we looked at Matt olssen today I think he's at like 30 it's a similar time frame um good baseball player sh Otani also similar time frame 2018 was his first year over here uh 41.1 War uh so these guys are doing historic stuff it's the conversation around baseball right now did watch My Guy Greg am singer give his starting nine list that had judge as the ninth best living player uh because Willie Mays rip uh he had show as his number one so I don't know maybe am singer for clicks per usuge um and it just opens up a thought exercise because it's best player as of right now is it best player when their career is over is it the unique player because show Otani is going to have an argument over anyone forever and if he goes 5050 in the One season he doesn't pitch this dude's going to have Trump cards everywhere 1 1550 season either sh Otani pitches and hits at an elite level sh Otani he's got two MVPs in the bag he's going to go in this year so he's going to have three MVPs in the bag uh and this is the season he didn't pitch he led the National League in home runs last last year uh he's leading in home runs RBI runs slugging Ops and Ops plus he also LED in slugging and Ops last year so uh what shohi is doing is absolutely insane I always forget the speed thing you guys have even probably heard me talk about it on heing talking baseball but when you say uh he hits the ball as far as anyone he hits the ball overall Ops which is supposed to be an all-encompassing stat he does that better than anyone he's hitting 292 uh he pitches as good as anyone can pitch his fast ball is about as hard as anyone can throw uh his little split split change there uh as unhitable as a pitch as there is in baseball uh and when I say all of that and like it still is in the realm of reality like okay let's just say this guy is better he's a better pitcher he's a better hitter than yeah he's faster too it's nuts it that part's that part has never fully computed for me and if he puts up 50/50 um it's a season we'll all remember and we're starting to find a lot of check marks in why we'll remember this season um God Aaron judge mentioned him New York Yankees a 50.8 career War he's got a 9.4 four War this season uh over the weekend he hit his 50th Homer or excuse me he h his 49th his 50th and his 51st home run um his slash line is silly I couldn't believe when I heard this morning he's hitting 333 that's that's Elite um the MLB batting leaders right now I think wit's the only guy that has them at 347 uh so when I'm talking about all the things shohi can do well which by the way shohi is like not out of the NL batting title I mean he'd have to go he'd have to go kind of nuts but not really at all Marcelo Zuna hitting 305 leading the way Arise at 303 um I think he's sixth let me see let me get my NL stats right that's always what I'm worried about yeah shohi is sixth in batting average so not far off the pace and he's a game away from from jumping like two guys absolute Insanity what these two people are doing Aaron judge is playing center field very casually um which is a position we designate on its own outside of the Outfield because it's harder to play um 333 batting average 51 home runs 122 RBI no one cares anymore 106 walks only behind his teammate wotto um a 465 on base a 736 slugging his Ops on the year is now 1.2 um the splits on him are crazy because as everyone started pointing to uh he did have a slow first month uh his first month was uh 207 340 a 754 Ops so yes I I mean that Ops is in line with a great player's bad month um the batting average pretty low um but it's the rest of it that's just Looney Tunes in the month of May 1.39 Ops I'll call it 1.4 for this June 1.37 1.3s don't happen that's not a thing for a month it's a thing for a weekend that's a thing for a Blitzball tournament 1.1 in July down that's his second worst month 1.1 which would be most of the League's I mean not even best month but it a pipe dream like most allar best months are almost there in August and this is where things get scary 425 batting average a 558 on base a 986 slugging that combines four a 1.544 Ops um we haven't really seen this before when the names get brought up there's bonds there's Ruth there's Ted Williams even their bests don't come up against what judge has been doing recently um there's something beautiful and Majestic to it he's a massive human he's 67 282 no shots at sh who I think's probably listed 64 oh and I'm on Jam probably I'm on jamer candelario's page that does not help me currently although I liked his signing before the season but he's been a little disappointing show listed 64210 that's a big guy broad shoulders he is a big guy he's a massive guy uh but not as big as Aaron judge um the way it almost feels like he has figured out the perfect contact approach with an uppercut swing which maybe that sounds like an oxymoron but because he's so massive when he runs into it the ball just explodes like it feels like one of those softball videos that goes viral every year or so of a guy like hitting a softball that just takes off because they catch it right um his strikeout rate is at a career low so when when you think about it that way and it's the guy who one of one of the guy three guys who hits the ball harder than anybody else who's ever played baseball is now making more contact than ever before having one of the best seasons ever can make sense it's a good formula and that's the I think that's the scary thing and it's it's not how does this end we're going to have plenty of time to talk about shohi and judge when they're old farts and how lucky we were to see it uh I think it's going to be pretty cool to see them both get the MVP P this year uh as they' bad New York and La into the playoffs oh my God Aaron judge this literally giant of a human in New York City New York or nowhere sh or Otani in La like the bridge between like America and Asia kind of that's not really I don't know Seattle Vancouver what's your favorite West Coast City sound off um but the fact that those are the two biggest markets the two biggest players they are performing at a level that literally no one has done I guess that's what needs to be said like there's having great Seasons like wow I think you know talking fantasy football this guy might run for 2,000 this guy might pass for 5,000 this guy's 50/50s never been done the guy also pitches he's currently not this year uh Aaron judge hit 6 62 61 is one of the big numbers in baseball lore and maybe it's not going to be anymore maybe that's going to be a number that kids laugh at if I say that sentence in a few years because he's got 62 now he's on Pace for 63 his own record and just a reminder and maybe this will be maybe this will be an annual thing um cuz I did this I did this in 22 and I ended up being a little sad um but let's do it again um because if you do home run leaders by season all of the names that end up oh my God this list is hilarious how have I ended up on Wikipedia um all of the names that are above Aaron judge are directly connected to steroids like not not Loosely not like they're the first names that come up when you think of guys accused of ster they're the faces it's Bond it's Sosa it's Maguire that's it that what would the record feel like if that didn't exist and I know we already played this game and that's fine whatever um but imagine if that record meant more the 62 61 was still that prestigious number Babe Ruth The Babe like the biggest icon in any sport him and MJ probably debate that somewhere else no thanks um but yeah the guy that broke the record if that was the record was now chasing himself again at age 32 33 now 32 um it's kind of unfathomable unfathomable to think and I think the crazier thing that we might land at at the end of this year if judge keeps going at this pace he would land mid-60s high 60s it's already become a storyline that is if he had a regular is April mhm could he actually be chasing bonds or 70 do you know what 70 would have meant before Maguire and bonds it's just a not real number it doesn't make sense um so a little blessing from the baseball gods that we get to see this every day uh a blessing and a curse that these two are doing it in separate divisions so they each get MVPs because my goodness if they were doing this in the same division it's probably what we'd be talking about every day and what did we do in 22 I know we did it it was the same two cats um just one was pitching on a losing team and well hold on now uh Show's numbers because I was a Judge Stan in 22 when he broke the Home Run Record uh partially because he carried that team and this is this is so horribly rude to Otani who in 2022 he had an 875 op yes which is incredible that's Allstar level um and he pitched and he pitched he pitched to the tune uh of a 28 starts A 233 ah maybe I was wrong maybe I was right because the Yankees went to the postseason and that was only because of Aaron judge the team was nothing and I don't know in my head most valuable still has to mean something Otani LED in K per nine that year what an absolute freak Show both of these guys are about that uh and the in the case of both of these guys I mean the the year they are doing this has been offens is down in general this era of baseball is harder to hit in than ever with the way pitch design happens and the amount of relievers that get used so amount of times you get to see the same guy a third time his way down like in the in the historical context of this six-year period of baseball we'll see how the game changes moving forward there's there we did a whole episode on potential rules to bring back some third time through the order stuff but they're doing this in in this kind of year that offense is down and Ruth played against clas and the balls ain't juice everyone that comes out of the bullpen throws 96 and change um it's it's special to watch it was a special weekend judge getting getting over the 50 hump that made things a lot more real for whatever reason uh and now show he chasing 50 on both sides of it uh so that's going to be a fun thing to track this summer and uh something that we've started to track and I think we're going to be tracking more and more as the season goes the playoff picture because I have Playoff Picture some bad news if you're in the outside looking in it doesn't feel great right now uh after this weekend in my Red Sox getting swept in the American League the Red Sox are the closest wild card team four and a half out of both Central teams who are in pursuit of the guard dogs um Royals Twins with the same exact record the Orioles three games up on them no one will be selling their orial stock I don't think anyone's selling Yankee stock at this point i' fully hit that point of the Season uh let me know if you're selling Astro stock because I'll buy it um and it's just hard to picture the Guardians at least fully missing the dance you can Daydream of the twins or Royals falling apart and missing but in that Daydream you need the Red Sox or the Mariners to catch them or the Rays or the Tigers and the Red Sox pitching has been kind of what we thought the Red Sox pitching was going to be they have come back to earth in a big way I think I read a stat today in talking baseball that Tanner H the Red Sox have lost Tanner H's last seven starts um he was a guy contending for the Sai Young for a bit uh he had an incredible first half of the season that's fallen off cutter Crawford who had some numbers that were really nice had fallen off their Bullpen has really given up there was there were some numbers in like May June about cuz Red Sox overall starting pitching staff had gotten off to such a good start and all that ra wise I think they I believe as a team they had given up the most unearned runs cuz the defense ain't ain't great or at least as as they were assembled early they've gotten some guys back throughout the whatever so there were there were signs that this was coming where are you Trevor story um so in the National League so not only do you have to believe in a Twins or Royals collapse I don't think anyone believes in Orioles Houston Yankees and the Guardians have been so so good that it would have to be a historic level collapse that I don't think we can dream on um so you need a Royals or twins collapse boom Trevor ploof couldn't rule out his twins that makes me believe it's in play uh the Royals everyone's been waiting I just don't think they're gonna that's a baseball town and they have a formula that's happening so let me say the AL is done for now I'm out on the Mariners um although Dan Wilson's Mariners haven't lost a series uh the Rays can't get out of their own way the tigers fighting for 500 do what you want with that and I just I don't think I can fully believe in Boston getting hot enough than those other two Central teams getting cold enough to get Boston in the mix let me finish the keep the AL there for now in the National League Dodgers Phillies and the Brewers Phillies have been dominant Dodgers have been sneaky dominant without even being dominant and now they might be start being more dominant um the Brewers have a 10-game lead those three teams are locked in they'll be in the playoffs in some fashion the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres sure uh Dbacks are four and a half games in Padres three above the Braves the Atlanta brav Braves who are supposed to be in Dynasty mode and have a lot of players you may know um they're 2 and 1/2 up on the New York Mets step right up and greet the Mets um hey man if you want to buy met stock over the Braves I mean literally go to DraftKings in bed on it cuz you can make a you can make a nice Penny um the Mets with no expectations and a franchise viewed very differently than the Atlanta Braves uh the Atlanta Braves have maybe cured they are they always had a fifth spot in the rotation that was hurting them rice glacius is just perfect um that they've been looking for more from the lineup that if they start getting that um watch out that I don't think anyone's selling on any of the National League teams I I think the only team I've been semi- rude to is the Mariners or four and half back in their division but it's of the Houston Astros and I've done this all year and I won't do it now um So within all that and Mets fans I'm sorry but you guys are Mets fans you understand where this combo is going um let's say it's locked the Giants and Cardinals are five games out Cubbies five and a half they're fighting trying to get to that over under um let's say for all intents and purposes it's it's done these teams are in the playoffs they're in the dance we have our sweet six from each side I want to put together the dream playoff bracket um and dream can mean a lot of different things right um it can mean the best matchups for for views it could mean the best baseball matchup um I want to sort through it and see where we land so uh currently in the let's do the AL the one seed is the Yankees whoops uh the two seed is the guard Best AL Matchups dogs um right now the Orioles would play the Royals the Astros would play the twins um so let's poper this around a little bit let's keep I think do those they're tied so I'm I don't know which one would play which fox has that with the tiebreaker right now nice I've always where I get mine um let's say Yankees guards are one two for now what would the ideal Wild Card matchups be um because right now it has Astros twins which these two teams have played before kareah uh is an interesting storyline uh Orioles Royals I mean that would just be like Bobby wood and Gunner yeah it's not awful for the sport with the rest of the Orioles you got catchers there salvi and adley um yeah I mean I know Royals or sorry Orioles last year's year they like arrived but they're still two the two like young upand cominging teams as far as these playoff groups Royals Astros that doesn't really have any juice does it I don't think so no specific thing I'd mark it there oh kind of different timelines right when Houston started yeah Kansas City ended just young Bulls old Bulls young Cals um Astros Orioles these teams just played I don't think it would line up that way um just record wise um and that would just be it would be the old guard of the Astros trying to fend off the young guard of the Orioles which then that would leave Royals Twins which hey maybe you say there's some a fun New divisional rivalry forming uh that doesn't move the needle too much if if it stays Yankees guards as the one two I think the current seating would be the best I think Orioles Royals you could really you could really sell Gunner and wit that's a lot of fun the the position Short Stop Lefty righty um that's fun even the catchers I threw in there I'm into that two two kind of historic baseball cities that have been out of the mix for a little bit yeah uh in Astros twins like I said with Korea you can upsell that um they played last year last year um that there's something there um Astros I mean you'd want the Astros to advance sorry twins um Astros Guardians my god um sorry Guardians fans just would not feel good for you in that um if it was Orioles Royals you'd also say Orioles and that that would set up a Yankees Orioles ALDS that that would be pretty pretty bitching uh not an excited way not me as a Yankee fan like yeah give me that but I mean Orioles Yankees you got some Jeffrey mayor stuff in there uh AL east playoffs turtlenecks uh sign me up for that kind of like picking ticking that rivalry into like a real rivalry like the yank and O's have had some hot games this year there's been some hit by pitch stuff um but a playoff series between these two would really Elevate that to the next level for the next couple of years so yeah I think I'm looking forward to that Guardians Astros that's a little it's a little light and maybe that's rude to my guards um and then essentially what in the AL that would set up Astros Astros are Yankees and Orioles I obviously have some bias in the situation I think MLB views wise I think there's some bias in the situation um oral Astros would be great no qualms I think a bigger win for baseball and everyone if the Yanks and Astros teed it up one more time uh in the Cs I guess just reworking this a little bit if the Astros were to catch the Guardians so then it would be Guardians as the F or no oh yeah that would make sense it would just be the three and the six Guardians twins I don't know I don't need I don't need more Central ball yeah um I won't I won't daydream about that for now I think that would just be Astros home for that set on paper CH chalk wild card and yeah I guess again going to lose some fans with this one but in the AL I think the Yankee the Yankees Astros or Orioles probably in that order would be best for the sport I know there's a lot of you that don't like any of those words I just just said um the Yankees getting back to the World Series would be massive for baseball do I have some bias absolutely um the second best story there would be the Astros trying to make this thing full-blown Dynasty mode uh and then the Orioles coming to fruition um and entering what would be the start of an era for them uh I think those would be the best for baseball in the National Best NL Matchups League Dodgers Phillies one two hello uh with the Brewers nipping at the but it's currently set up and this is kind of what sparked this idea in my head Padre's Diamondbacks whoa um if that stays three games for those two teams that each can be such sexy World Series teams in their own right Arizona just did it everyone thought the Padres were going to do it then it looked like they were out and now they're back in um so two NLS teams playing three games to go face the Dodgers basically an NL West bracket yeah um and hate to it's a win-win the Diamondbacks eliminated the Dodgers last year nobody saw that coming the Padres and Dodgers kind of were supposed to be the Rivalry That was supposed to be next uh the young core of San Diego against the mighty mighty Dodgers that would be win-win either way Brewers fans cover your ear uh we've been daydreaming about the Hank Aaron bll Milwaukee versus Atlant Atlanta um and if we're being honest it would be Atlanta going on to play the Phillies and maybe this is lame maybe this is lame because I just ended up with divisional stuff on this side uh but maybe this is what it is or maybe hey Brewers fans if you want to feel better catch the Phillies uh because then the Phillies would be playing the brace in the first round so instead of five games you get three um but Philly Braves part three at this point right they've played the last two years and the Phillies have got them both times Philly Braves part three I think baseball would be psyched for that um and let's see if we had to hodgepodge the pieces around Padres Phillies would be fun not a lot of animosity Dbacks Phillies last year's NLCS that would have some good entertainment value there Padre's Phillies was previous year's NLCS and that was that was a fun one that was good okay so anyone in the Phillies basically I guess this exercise ended in a sad place cuz I'm basically just being rude to Milwaukee this became a little bit we mean to the central winners I just became mean to the whole Central hey I upsold the Royals Bobby Wht we marketed the Royals can we Market the [Music] Brewers can I Market the twins all right all right unfortunately this is why we do some of these exercises and you find out you're just a bad guy to the central I understand why you don't like me um and I like the central I it's Americana um but they need to show something Braves Brewers I bought in on Hank Aaron ball God what's the Jackson Chio Willie ad Thomas wish yelli was playing I don't know well people this is why I do these exercises I like to stumble into stuff unfortunately this ended up very poorly for my central convince me of the best playoff brackets uh please comment I love going through them uh you guys are the best uh I have a meeting to go to hate that for me um and my fantasy football auction stories I don't think you want that got Josh Allen and Dalton conc so we're just gonna linked up we're just gonna link that up all year long all my wide
