LSU FOOTBALL SEASON OPENER PREVIEW Vs. USC In Las Vegas + Garrett Nussmeier Debut!

e [Music] welcome back we're live on a Friday you know what that means it's football season T minus 2 days right some Sunday Night Football in Vegas number 12 LSU matching up with number 23 USC welcome to Valley Vision I'm Abby Alonzo Trinity Johnson on the sticks ready to break down this matchup season opener I think everybody's pumped from what I've seen Vegas is already packed has been packed since Wednesday with LSU fans I saw a tweet that they could hear boozy in the streets like people were driving cars and you just hear boozy playing so you already know LSU fans travel really well especially for football season opener of course and then you throw it in Vegas Sin City baby mistake yes I remember going to uh when we played UCLA in the Rose Bowl that was two years ago I was still in college so yeah two two seasons ago and they ran out of alcohol y'all like in the Rose Bowl I swear to God like they ran out of alcohol it was crazy only ills you yeah go without saying uh before we get started one I want to acknowledge that my eyes are really red and I have a little sinus infection going on so please excuse that if you hear some sniffles in the mic we're going to push through though um and two got to shout out St Rock vodka the official vodka of B Traditions Collective the official nil Collective of LSU Athletics remember guys you buy a bottle of that vodka some of those proceeds go back directly to the student athletes excuse me student athletes that you guys love to watch on the field and you get good vodka so why not support St Rock tastes good I can tell you from experience um we've got it in the shop whenever we uh are off the clock we take a few swigs but go find it it's in Rouse's uh it's online it's in Total Wine it's all over the place they are going broad um shout out St Rock OG's for being there since day one all right you ready to do this let's get into it let's get it we're going to give you all the context going into this game uh the matchup on both sides some keys and maybe a little bit of a prediction at the end year three of the Brian Kelly era we're coming off two back-to- back season opening losses to the same team ironically Florida State got us not one but two years in a row Brian Kelly has not seen a week one win since he's been at LSU is this the year that changes I'd like to think so I think so I actually have a really good feeling about it so like I said number 12 LSU number 23 USC now this is kind of an interesting matchup for more than one reason but the teams are in very similar boats yes uh one both teams lost Heisman quarterbacks you don't see that too often Jaden Daniels Caleb Williams both out both went to the league you're now revamping an entire offense on both sides so uh Garrett nus me this is the beginning of the Garrett nus me era he's been waiting his turn and now it's here on the other side you've got Miller Moss who is going to be stepping in for Caleb Williams but let's talk about nus a little bit not to mention you've got new offensive coordinators and Joe Sloan and Cortez hton who co-offensive coordinators coming together to really revamp this offense when we did the interview with Chris Hilton I kind of asked him about it he said he feels like they're in a really good place um this week is going to be a test we'll get to the defense in a minute um both defenses in just a second but let's talk a little bit about Garrett NSM when he played in The relia Quest Bowl in January he went 31 for 45 threw for 395 yards three touchdowns and only had one pick now it was a bowl game but it was a great showing from him and Wisconsin had a very good defense so I would like to see him air it out this weekend um I think he's got a lot of potential again Brian Kelly talked about you know he's got some time under maybe not playing experience but he knows what it's what it's about yeah he um has been in the system he knows what it looks like he's played in the SEC environment um and in that bowl game he did face a very good defense and came out with a win I think going into that you have a little bit more confidence in a guy who is going to be taking over the offense yeah um Brian Kelly has said he's got the keys right the song just played in my head I wish it didn't but it did uhhuh yeah that was it um but there's pressure and we've talked about this before when you're following not one but two Heisman quarterbacks you know all eyes are on you you lost some core parts to the offense as well Malik neighbors Brian Thomas Jr two of the best receivers in college football last year really really elevated the offense are no longer options now you've got Karen Lacy Chris Hilton who by the way just a little injury update is questionable for Sunday's game with a bone bruise on his ankle um Aaron Anderson and then the ground game which I'd like to see Garrett run a little bit maybe not as much as Jaden but you like to have that Duality um in your quarterback you've got I'm sorry where was it going on the ground you've got Caleb Jackson Who we've talked about runs hard he runs fast so your offense is in pretty good shape not to mention you have one of the best offensive lines in the country which is huge for a quarterback who is trying to really get going first game of the season he's trying to make a name for him he's already got a name for himself but really really solidify hey I deserve to be here and I'm going to lead this team having an o line that can give you the time in the pocket and protect you allows you to do your job now you just do your job so the offense in a pretty good position given it was kind of cleared out uh last season yeah thoughts my thoughts I think that nus Meer is going to be he's goingon to give the opportunity for our Run game two in our rushing field and yards to amplify more than Jaden did because I feel like our running backs last year they didn't have what they have now and Jaden really kind of made up for that because he was a running quarterback and he he was the Dual threat that we wanted um and I think that was good for that time being because our running backs they just wenter as strong as they are now and I feel like with um nus Meer being more of a passing quarterback then is going to have our running backs have that be uncomfortable feeling so that they can learn how to run and get those you can't rely on your quarterback to scramble and and in so many press conferences last year the o line was asked like how do y'all feel when Jaden is just scrambling and he's just running and they're like he's going to do it so we just do our job and you know hope he doesn't get hurt and he tends to get right back up and keep going um but let's let's dive a little bit deeper into the offensive weapons that we do have this year Kiren Lacy potential to be one of the best receivers in the conference last year he led um let the offense in yards per catch with 18.6 you like to see that catching the ball is one thing being able to get the yards after is a huge plus um and then like I said you lost neighbors you lost uh Brian Thomas Jr but you do have Aaron Anderson who played in 11 games last season didn't really um be the showstopper when you've got two receivers like that it's very hard to have a third like that at the same time because of the splits um he's got an opportunity this year and then you had Liberty transfer CJ Daniels come in who we've heard could make a huge difference for what LSU does on offense this year um yeah but I haven't heard Brian Kelly say much about CJ um in his last press conference he didn't even mention about like having him play at all I am I am interested in that because uh coach hton talked about the depth that they have in the receiver core though so of course you're probably going to have one or two be the main guys but to hear the OC or the cooc say hey like yes these are the the names that you're hearing but you're going to get very familiar with a few because of the depth we have and depth has been an issue for LSU football specifically on defense but sometimes on offense so to hear the word depth be thrown around and say hey we have it it's a nice it's a nice little um touch uh like I said Chris a little bit questionable for this weekend we hopefully here pretty soon whether he's going to be playing that might be a game time decision Bone bruises are weird um especially on the ankle of a receiver um specifically the fastest receiver on the team um but we've got some tight ends too specifically Mason Taylor um he was the leader in receptions last year he I don't want to say he got overshadowed because he didn't he got his credit but again when you've got guys like Malik neighbors and Brian Thomas Jr on the roster maybe you don't get as many flowers as you should I think he's going to really light it up this year um and then kind of alluding to what you were saying Caleb Jackson is going to be a unit um and a very very important piece for this offense to fire on all cylinders because yes you can have an air raid and hopefully Garrett nus is airing the ball out this week I think he's going to actually have over 250 yards knock a wood uh but you want to see Caleb Jackson fire it up we saw spurts of it I mean I specifically remember him in the Mississippi State game just lighting up that Defender you know exactly what I'm talking about because the video went viral everywhere um but he's physical he's fast he can get through defenses he creates explosive runs that's going to be a vital part of making sure that this offense has Duality um and then we can't forget about Josh Williams who again flies under the radar a little bit maybe not the big shiny name um but he was a part of the national championship team he had 14 receptions last season and just is another option for nire to throw to um so if you have a pass catcher and a running back that's also another option that that um sets you up to be pretty successful going into that o line guys like Will Campbell and Emory Jones who are huge NFL prospects this year um they both combin for 30 starts uh these are guys that you want protecting your quarterback they were two of the main guys in the press conferences last year um they did a hell of a job protecting Jaden Daniels and I don't doubt that they come step into even more of a leadership role knowing that their quarterback is kind of getting some new experience like they have to step into that role Will Campbell has done a phenomenal job with the media explaining and like we said in Monday's show 10 wins is not going to cut it 10 wins gets people fired and replaced here we're not doing the 10- win thing and then doubles down we know why we're in Vegas and it's not to go to Caesar's Palace I don't know if you saw him yes we they're so fired up and I feel like given that a lot of your leadership has left and you've got new coaching staff left and right it takes some of those vet players to step up and make strong comments like that and be like Relentless in in the approach of we're not taking no for an answer we have a job to do and we're going to do it um I feel very good about the offense I know that's kind of a a question I know people are sketchy and sketchy sus about the offense and that's okay because you do have a new quarterback and we're used to Heisman quarterbacks LSU fans let me tell you something we're spoiled we're so spoiled you win a National Championship undefeated you've got guys Joe burrow Jamar Chase Justin Jefferson Malik neighbors Brian Thomas Jr Jaden Daniels like we're spoiled so one take it with the grain of salt yeah um and know that there are going to be HIC UPS in this game it probably will not be a beautiful exe execution of what we will look like at the end of the season but the potential is there you have all the right pieces it's just a matter of putting them into the right places and to like piggyback off of what you're saying I think this is a perfect first game for us because simply because our offense is stack and we're strong of course we have a new leader in the pocket but USC's defense is fairly new so I feel like it's a perfect way to just really fig figure out what pieces need to go together and I think it's just like for a perfect way for them to learn each other better and just to see how well the o line protects nus Meyer how well we can get Caleb uh Jackson to rush it all like it just all is like great it's thank you for bringing up that point because USC like I said both defenses are under reconstruction um USC last year their run defense specifically allowed 186 rushing yards per game and ranked 117th in the nation so if you get Caleb Jackson R in and take advantage now Granite that was last season they they have a new staff they have I believe nine transfers came in for their defense so they're going to be figuring it out as well but if it's anything like it was last season you may see a lot of Caleb Jackson and maybe even some nus Meers some Josh Williams taking advantage of the ground game um let's let's dive into the defense though a little bit God I hope the conversations we have about the defense are not the the same ones that we had last year I don't think they will be we have said it so many times Brian Kelly went to work during the off season and brought in the right staff Blake Baker is now the defensive coordinator he comes from missou he led mizou to one of their most successful uh seasons in program history can he translate it to what he has on defense here depth was a problem last year um Personnel usage was a problem last year so I feel feel like there were some major changes made on defense um again you're going to see some holes this weekend you're going to see some guys not playing where they should be playing some Miss tackles probably but that's all part of figuring it out up to this point this defense or new coaching staff has only faced Personnel that they are on the same team of and when I say that I mean they know the Tendencies of the offense they know how the team works so what you've seen or what you've heard or about practice is a little bit different than what you're going to see in Sunday's game timeout are we good connections okay we're gonna pause for a second make sure that um we're still streaming I'll check the chat while we're doing this college football is back and I love it can't wait to see all the content y'all produce this season this year is going to be exciting I'm very excited to see what we come up with as well and please do the tailgating cont content too if y'all can it was so entertaining we will be back with the Valley Vision game day Vlogs those were a lot of fun to do they were a lot of work and they were very long days but entertaining content for sure so we're gonna make sure Sydney so ready for football to be back how do we feel about LSU being minus four minus four um I'm going to be honest I think they win by field goal we'll get to the prediction soon hey Dad thanks for hanging out with us are we if anybody is still watching yeah Frozen oh okay yeah but it's we're good on uh OBS YouTube's doing the YouTube thing yeah we're losing viewers that's fine it's all right we're going to jump into the defense in just a second not sure what's going on with the connection here everything's connected sick still frozen hey chat if y'all can hear me can y'all chime in so we can see if we can fix this Tech issue and keep going with this preview no I there's it's just not you're not there's sound but you're not moving oh no I know yeah I can see on here and I'm watching the viewer go down but I don't see anybody in the chat saying anything so I don't know if it's a YouTube thing it's frozen but y'all can hear me yeah I mean what's going on here we might just have to it probably could be the fact that your laptop is on six% I don't know it very well could be it's not charging
