My Best & Worst Furniture & Home Purchases 🏠 (West Elm, CB2, Ruggable, Fable)

Intro over the past couple of years of Charlie my husband and I owning our first home we've made a lot of furniture purchases we've definitely made some great decisions but we've also made a handful of bad ones in this video I'm going to share with you my overall thoughts and speed reviews on some key Furniture pieces that I purchased from West STM CB2 etc etc hello and welcome my name is Amy if here without further Ado let's jump right into it because I am really excited to walk through my home with you and kind of pinpoint all the things that I not everything obviously because that video would be a gazillion years long but I'm going to show you some main pieces that I do get a lot of questions on when people see them in person or online I'm going to share with you how they've been holding up what they look like all that Best & Worst Furniture Purchases good stuff since we're already in the living room let's go ahead and start off there I'm going to go ahead and talk about the couch that is behind me it is in fact by westelm it is one of the biggest Furniture purchases Charlie and I have ever made in our lives it was very pricey and it was definitely painful for our wallet I'm pretty sure we paid somewhere around 4500 to 5,000 for this couch especially because it is a really big sectional we also customized it to choose our own fabric we definitely wanted the performance fabric because we do have have a dog so all that to say the delivery took I think we had to wait around 5 to 6 months for this couch to finally arrive it was really painful because we already owned our home by then so we were just making our dingy tiny little couch work in our huge space for the time being until the couch was ready to be delivered to us but I will say when it finally arrived it was totally worth the wait it is one of my favorite things that I have in my my home I just think it is such a showstopper of a couch and whenever people come into our home it's the first thing that they notice because we do have an open floor plan and the couch is such a statement it is as you can see in the background it's a light color couch I'll show you guys what it looks like obviously within my space so you can get an idea of how much presence it has and what it looks like styled but I do want to talk a little bit about the quality the maintenance how it's holding up if I have any issues with it stuff like that so let's I'm just going to start talking about it now like I mentioned before this is the performance Fabric and we were able to choose the color and the material before we even ordered the couch I already knew that I wanted a light colored couch I definitely wanted a big white couch that said I do understand that it is scary to own a very big piece of furniture that is white especially as a couch that you spend so much time on you going to have company over you're going to be sitting and eating and things and spilling stuff so I was a little worried about that but it really wasn't one of my biggest concerns to be honest and I'm glad that it didn't deter me from getting one specifically the color that we chose is more of an off-white and it has little specks of different variations of white so even if you do get something on it it's not as visible than if you were to have a very stark white couch that is all fabric because this has more of a knit type of texture it really doesn't show stains that much at if at all we also use flex I'll go ahead and leave a link down below to everything that I mentioned today we use flex the cleaning spray to get any type of dirt or grime off of the couch if we find any and it usually will take off everything I think we've had chocolate rub off one time and it that came right out we haven't had any catastrophes yet like knock on wood right oh my gosh we haven't spilled wine on it or any type of liquid Romper our dog has never peed or pooped on it like it's it hasn't gone through too much but at the same time the fabric has held up really well over the three two three years that we've had so far the only thing that I will mention about this fabric is that it does ball up like it pills a little bit so you have to kind of make maintain that aspect of it you need to rotate the couch cushions so that it's not becoming uneven and lumpy so those are just basic you know necessary things that you should be doing anyway for your couch when the fabric pills and balls up a little bit I really don't mind getting a dillar like one of those Shavers and getting those things off it doesn't bother me too much another great thing is that most of the cushions and pillows that I came with has a zipper so you can take the stuffing out and put those in the washer one thing to note if you are looking at this couch I think it's called the harmony couch it is filled with down so a lot of the time the feathers not a lot but it's not excessive but definitely I see it here and there the feathers will make itself or find itself out of the couch and you'll see feathers kind of chilling on the couch or on the ground that Romper usually will find and he will start chewing on it and we'll have to just yank it out of his mouth other than that I think it's a very sturdy high quality couch I would highly recommend it and it is very comfortable in my opinion I also really love the fact that the ottoman is not attached to the couch so you can move it to make it more custom like I said it's obviously a sectional couch so there's a lot of things that you can do to it to alter the shape or whatever you may want to do the next Furniture that's in my living space as well that I absolutely love and adore is my coffee table it is so aesthetic and it wasn't outrageously expensive it's still from westom so the quality is there but I didn't have to spend upwards of hundreds and hundreds of dollars on a coffee table because I really didn't want to do that but I also wanted something that was minimal that was clean and Chic and would tie everything together in our living space and I think this one really does it well I love the serus white wood it's one of my favorite wood colors from West I think it brings the perfect amount of warmth to to your space without looking orange or red although I love the color gray I'm not the biggest fan of gray Furniture which is funny because our dining table is more on this gray scale which I'll get to in a little bit aside from that piece most of our furniture is a little bit more on the warmer side or neutral I'm really fond of this coffee table's matte black legs because I think it brings the perfect amount of contrast it's also really simple and minimal which I like I also like the height of it that it's not super tall where it's you know obstructing your view of the TV so that's really important so it's pretty low but it's not super low where it's hard for you to reach for things things are still accessible when they're on the table I love the fact that it does have a raised lip around the perimeter of the table because then it means if you do spill something it's not going to Splatter and spill over the edges which is kind of a nice plus that I didn't really think about until I got it overall really love this coffee table I will say it's not the highest quality coffee table that I've ever seen in my life obviously because it is a little bit more of an unfinished wood type of feel so I would definitely recommend using coasters when you have drinks on them I would frequently clean the wood part with wood spray or stuff like that to keep it clean and pristine for a long time the next Furniture I'm about to talk about is a beautiful bookshelf and it goes so perfect it's like a match made in heaven with the coffee table because it has the same serus white wood finish they both also have the matte black Hardware which just goes so perfectly with the overall look they do really look like they're from the same collection but I don't think they are we currently store on the bookshelf not books but we carry a lot of board games on it for right now because whenever we have guests over and we have a game nighter or something thing we love playing board games and I love having them on display because it brings a little bit of liveliness and color to the space I also have a few decorations I have a relax sign on there which is very cute I'll put a few plants and things like that to liven it up a little bit more and it's just one of my favorite things to look at when I'm am relaxing and I love how it is right next to the TV It just fits right in and it looks so great with the coffee table but also with the dog crate that I have which is a great segue into talking about that the dog crate that I have is by Fable and we've had it for a couple months now it is the most high quality and luxurious dog crate I have ever owned and Romper has ever owned in his life the color of the wood is really nice because it is still that light wood color that I love it's not cool toned at all so it's a little bit more warm that matches so so well with the coffee table and the bookshelf as you can see I really like matching the wood to bones together I also love the fact that the door is acrylic so it's really easy to clean the aesthetic fits so so well with the rest of our furniture it truly does look like a piece of furniture here hang in there we're still talking about our living room and we have this media console from CB2 which we absolutely love this is the only CB2 Furniture item that we own and consider us impressed because this has held up so well as you can see we haven't mounted our TV on the wall so it's been resting on top of the console for I want to say for the entire time that we've had it I was quite worried that over time the weight of the TV was going to warp the top surface of the console but that has not been the case at all it's very very sturdy and strong it's actually very heavy so just keep that in mind it's very hard to move with but I think it directly correlates to the high quality and material I love the fact that it has storage underneath where it has different shelves and then two drawers right now we're just storing some extra board games or game consoles and things like that and it serves its purpose really really well unlike the couch this piece of furniture is absolutely a bright stark white but I love it because it's in that lacquered glossy finish that really brings a little bit more brightness to the room now let's talk about our dining room so the only piece of furniture that I have to share with you today in our dining space because our dining space is relatively small we just have a big dining table that seats 1 2 3 4 5 six people which is plenty enough for our small family we got this dining table from westelm as well and it's one of the more affordable ones from their catalog not that it's cheap by any means but it is on the lower end of their price range for sure there's so many more expensive ones and I remember specifically choosing this one because it was still within our budget and it looked like the type of aesthetic that I would go for contrary to the wood that we have in our living room this wood color is much more I want to say it leans cool it really depends on how the light hits the table that the color kind of looks a little bit different for the most part I would say this table is on the cooler tone side I am obsessed with the look of this table because it draws a lot of attention without doing too much I love the clean lines and it's very geometrically eye pleasing I also have the matching bench for it so it just just looks like a complete set the texture of the wood feels a lot more finished than let's say the coffee table because that one's a little bit more textured it feels more raw but this dining table definitely does feel more finished it does have the different nooks and crannies because it is real wood but it's a lot smoother to the touch it definitely feels like there's a coating on it to be fair the wear and tear on this table I can't accurately depict because we haven't had a lot of company on it and eat dinner with us there we typically will eat on The Breakfast Table or we'll be in the living room so we haven't experiened a ton of traffic for me to be able to tell you how it's been holding up but we have had it for a while it has been sitting in our living room for a very long time and I think the quality is really really good for the price that you get from westelm to accompany this table and the bench we do have these white dining room chairs and I absolutely love the look of them I think it makes the entire space a little bit more brighter because of the color I believe the fabric is also performance I think the silhouette and shape of these chairs go so well with the dining table because it's also very clean with straight lines very geometric I also love the matte black legs that tie in with the other Furniture in my living space as well like I said we have an open floor plan so you can kind of see everything in one scan of the the floor I guess the fabric on the seats have held up really well I will say the one chair that I use the most it does have a little bit of pilling going on but it's nothing drastic you can quickly remove those with a d-pillar or a lint roller or just pick them off like little cherries they are also very comfortable which is important now let's move on to the kitchen so this is going to be the most interesting part of the video because this is one of my worst Furniture purchases ever it is our breakfast table and I know what you're thinking it looks very nice it looks aesthetic it takes up the perfect amount of space I love the tone of the wood because this is also serus wood serus white light wood or something like that I love the bronzy gold legs as well because it ties in really well with the hardware in our kitchen however we've had so many issues with this breakfast table and it starts from the way beginning we had to get this table replaced twice and it's still not perfect it came to us not in a good pristine condition it really looked like the wood was tripping and it had Nicks on them the different panels of the table weren't aligning properly it was a mess you guys so we had to ask for a replacement after it got to our house twice and it was just not fun and we still ended up with a table that was not in perfect condition they absolutely did not do their d diligence when it comes to quality control and quality check before it went to the consumer it was just damaged you know so I should have just sent it back and asked for a refund but you know we needed a breakfast table our last one literally broke we had a glass one that came off of the base so we really desperately needed a table in that space so I think I made a wrong compromise and just decided to keep the damag table because it wasn't as bad as the first two and I was just sick of it I was so impatient and I was just getting tired of going through this process that I just wanted it to end so I was like fine I'll keep it worst decision ever when it comes to Furniture purchases if it doesn't come to you and you're not happy with it just send it back you will regret it if you keep it like me I also really don't like the design of this table because I understand that this supposed to work for small spaces because the panels on each side is you know you can Fold It Down so you'll have a smaller table for smaller spaces like if you have an apartment however we never put the panels down because we usually have guests and we'll sit around the table so we always need the maximum amount of surface and because when the panels are up they have these little cracks that things can fall it's so hard to clean the table when I'm wiping it down the solution kind of like gets into the sides of the crack and I have to literally like try to push my fingernails in it to clean clean it properly it is just not convenient I don't like it this was a bad bad purchase on my part if you don't need your table to fit into a small space and you're not going to utilize the folding down panels just forget about this table just move on to something else just look at something else don't pick this one if you look around The Breakfast Table you'll notice my beautiful wooden black chairs we have four of them I am very happy with the look and feel and quality of these wooden black chairs however they do not work with this particular breakfast table and maybe they won't work for a lot of other tables as well but I just haven't tried it but it is kind of the fault of my own decision of the design but also I don't know if it's because of the height measurement isn't working but as you can see we have these black markings on our breakfast table now on the sides because the armrests of these chairs keep hitting the wood of our breakfast table because they're literally the same height I did not realize this until way later I realized over time that there were these black marks and I was like where are these coming from and it's clearly from the chairs the paint is rubbing off on it because we keep on pushing the chairs in and it's hitting each other and they're rubbing off the paint fortunately the chairs are high quality where the black paint hasn't rubbed off completely because I think there are several layers on it which is great to know but it's just annoying I don't like the black marks on my table that the chairs gave me and I'm scared that over time the black paint is actually going to come off of these beautiful chairs it's a shame because the material is so good it doesn't have any cushions on it and I feel like it's pretty comfortable the seats are big enough and I love them aside from the fact that they keep hitting the sides of the table before I even get sadder dwelling on this purchase let's talk about something else on a brighter note I have these ruggable rugs and surprisingly I've had a really good experience with them I know there are a lot of mixed reviews online about rug but I think it really depends on the type that you get how you configure it because I got the thicker ones not the really thin ones that are the cheapest ones that you can get from their website I got the thicker tufted ones with a little bit of cushion I think that's the way to go when it comes to ruggable if you have a preference for more traditional rugs then definitely you have to go for the higher end of ruga where it's tufted it has like the cushion mat and everything if you get their normal ones that are thinner those are definitely nice for more hight traffic areas because then you can easily throw them in the wash because they are thinner but it won't give you that luxurious rug actual rug type of feel I have these kind of all throughout my house but especially in the kitchen I have the thicker ones underneath the breakfast table and I have a runner in my kitchen as well as well and we love it so much I went risky and bought light colored ones as you can see but they are so easy to get stains out of and they're so easy to vacuum when you vacuum these they look brand new you don't even have to wash them we have not washed these a single time since we bought them we just use flex like I said that we use on our couch on these ruges too and it gets off every stain it comes off super easily you don't have to put a lot of elbow grease in them the material hasn't peeled on us it hasn't ripped it doesn't show a lot of wear and tear in my opinion so I I think they're worth it I will say definitely go ahead and wait for one of their sales we got these on sale for Black Friday last year for I want to say about 20 or 25% off which significantly saves you a lot of money I Outro do have a lot more furniture that I could talk through in this
