Three Israelis killed by gunman at West Bank border crossing with Jordan

okay let's turn our attention to the Middle East and three Israeli citizens have been killed at a border crossing between Jordan and the occupied West Bank the shooting occurred at the Allenby Bridge the only official entry point that was still functioning the Border has now been closed as both Israel and Jordan carry out their investigations here's our Middle East correspondent aliser bule well this is the alamry Bridge Crossing which is the only Crossing for Palestinians who live in the West Bank to leave and it's also a route for goods uh turn from the West Bank and Jordan Jordan you can make out uh in the distance those mountains and Aman the Jordanian Capital up on the top of those mountains so this is a regularly used Crossing and this morning a lorri coming from the Jordanian side came across the border and it was on the Israeli side in the cargo section not the Passenger Terminal but the cargo section where the driver got out and started firing a handgun he killed three isres but he was then killed himself by a security official here now the The Crossing is controlled by Israeli officials they have shut this Crossing and the other Crossings between Israel uh and Jordan uh whilst an investigation goes on there's an investigation happening the Jordanian side as well it's we are understand the the driver is a suspected Jordanian but that hasn't been confirmed yet what is concerning is that when the Israelis have got fronts in Gaza in Lebanon uh and they've been fighting in the West Bank for the last part of the last two weeks but also just as an ongoing operation the West Bank attacks emanating from Jordan uh is going to be another concerning front for the Israelis that I'm sure they'll talk about when the security cabinet uh meets later tonight Israel has been accusing Iran of using Jordan as a route to smuggle weapons into the West Bank through the uh the long border uh that runs along the length of the West Bank and I think this will uh only underline for many Israeli officials that it is being used uh and potentially it is a soft point uh for weapons or attacks to come in uh through there so it is a it's a new development uh for the Israelis and one that we will see how they try and counter it for now the border crossing remains closed the Israeli military are here uh in Far larger numbers than they would normally be uh and this is just the kind of the the first barrier the first checkpoint before you then go through more barriers probably a couple miles down the road and then you get to the passenger Terminals and the cargo terminals so for now this border and all other borders between Israel and Jordan and the West Bank and Jordan remain closed
