it's only fitting that we have a a former linebacker here with a current linebacker as we talked to the heart of that BYU defense tonight Jack Kelly Jack how would you rate BYU's defensive performance as a unit tonight I mean I think overall we did really good obviously first game we're going to have some things to clean up watch film um clean those things up next week and I think we uh put on a good performance for our first game hey uh Jack so personally right I want to ask you kind of a personal question first time playing in LEL Edwards Stadium walk me through it honestly driving up to the stadium in the buses was a little nervous getting out on the St once I got out here all the fans showing love and everything it kind of made me realize the The Surreal moment I'm in how amazing it is and then just hearing the crowd go crazy on on all the defensive possessions was awesome how did the team and the defense specifically handled the news about your defensive coordinator Jay Hill and a guy who you played for at weever State what was that like as a unit to go through that and and deal with some off the field you know Frank Frankly frightening stuff obviously was very SC um you never know it's could be life-threatening obviously it kind of was a life-threatening situation but um we're happy that he he was be able to here be able to be here with us today um he did such a great job at coaching all of us and all the other coaches that um they were comfortable with calling the plays and being able to coach us when he wasn't there overall it was a tough tough thing for us to hear but it was awesome that he was in high Spirits through it all hey so talk to me about some of the big plays that were made obviously you can you had that free kind of Blitz where you came through you missed came back what did you see on that play to kind of enable you to get to that position so it was empty and that was actually supposed to be Harrison tager Blitz but since my coverage was wide we kind of uh switched our assignment and so I came uh right behind the DN so he didn't see me the the offensive guard didn't see me and I was able to come free and too bad I came too far field to to miss that but I was able to use some effort and get back on on a tackle yep the defense seemed to have great success getting to the quarterback all night what was it that allowed that H to happen I think energy and effort everyone playing off of each other this is an 11-man game um everyone was playing great everyone was doing their job and I think all the offseason work that the strength coaches and our our pass rush coaches have done has all uh allowed us to be at this point hey real quick want to just highlight that a on your your jersey what does it mean to you to kind of have that you know to be highlighted by your teammates uh what does that mean to you I mean it means everything to me because just coming here it's my first year and just having the trust of the teammates that they they believe in me to lead them it really means everything to me um it puts a lot of not like bad pressure puts good pressure to to lead them and also allows me to to fall find like a deeper connection with each and everyone Jack we'll finish with this what was your favorite moment or play of the night o I don't know if I could choose one I liked a lot of the offensive plays that they had some deep balls that were really good and then jro's pick was pretty sweet he played that perfectly and had a a pretty good return on that as well not surprising Jack highlighting his teammates this is what you do congratulations on a great win and your first is a BYU cougar thank you so much
