tonight is a Triumph of optimism and hope it's 2001 and Gordon Campell and his BC Liberal Party win the biggest landslide in BC history in that Year's provincial election fast forward and what was the once great former BC Liberal Party no longer a factor well you know uh yes for now certainly in this election but I cannot predict what you know a future board may want to do um but uh for certainly for this ele yes the BC United party suspended its election campaign merging with the surging conservative party of BC in a move intended to unite the right of Center vote this now changes the election dramatically we now have basically a two-party race uh green will be there but they'll be fighting they may benefit from The Disappearance of United not all these DC United are going to go to the conservative party a former cabinet minister under Premier Gordon Campbell and Christy Clark Kevin Falcon left politics for the private sector on his return as the BC Liberal Party leader he changed the party's name to the BC United party he kicked John rusted out of the caucus for his anti-climate change social media post but a series of defections including a high-profile switch by Rising Star Eleanor stero left the party weakened now there is one major opposition party heading into the October 9th fall election we let to watch how the public interprets this and can as they get to know John rustad that's going to be a major factor as to how much of a two-party tight will this be a tight race I'm not sure but certainly it's now a clear two-party race this former BC liberal MLA says something had to give after a series of disasters changing the name was the silliest thing they ever did but they did I mean who's BC United uh so that was a huge loss I think bad decisions were made will they come back be quite a while people are calling this a seismic shift a dramatic shift it certainly is that a survey last week from Main Street research put the BC conservatives slightly ahead of the NDP at 36% support
