now to the Big Island here's a live look over Hilo Bay where you can see it's gloomy and the rain coming down Pete is back and looks like we may be getting some heavy rain from the remnants of Gilma later this week right yeah it's it's amazing how tropical season really just heated up as we head to the hurricane tracking Center of course H long gone but we have Gilma which will not be like H it's not going to bring a wind threat it's not going to bring the flood threat for most spots but it will bring additional rainfall is you T they're already raining in kilo and we're going to see additional showers in many spots across the Big Island saw some very heavy rain so when will we see the rain likely Friday and Saturday so here's a look at it you can see those showers that the most of the activity the heaviest rain may just pass just north of the state but we're going to get brushed by some of these showers and right now our estimates are it's kind of a big range so anywhere between a half an inch to up to 3 in of rain our Island weather model here is showing about a/ inch to about an inch and a half of rain now into Sunday yesterday was showing more like 2 in so that's going to fluctuate and the reason why it's fluctuating is the path path of Gilma is changing somewhat so this is expecting this model expecting a little bit more of a Northerly pass which would Brak the heaviest rain offshore we're not expecting a major flood threat but certainly additional rainfall exped some spots across the Big Island already saw 2 and A2 ft of rain so no additional rain needed there but other spots we could use it especially here across aahu kaii and Maui County we may not want it on Friday and Saturday as we head into the holiday weekend but uh we got to kind of take what we get here is the path you can see it weakening again losing tropical characteristics are becoming a Remnant low as we call it Thursday into Friday most of the Winds staying offshore we're not expecting a wind threat but certainly rain and issue winds are already down to 40 m hour it's barely holding on to Tropical Storm status into quite dry now but here's some showers coming in the next hour hour and a half aahu had some showers earlier things have quieted down I don't expect a whole lot over the next hour Windward showers from Maui and the Big Island as you saw there it's pretty wet for Hilo along the hamua coastline seeing showers and we'll see additional showers for the big island tonight so Island by Island forecast looking at scattered showers for kawaii for tomorrow a little bit better chance of rain as some of that moisture out ahead of Gilma already moving in so we'll see our trade showers kind of exaggerated a few more of those especially in the morning hours uh for all Islands but especially Windward and Mala scattered showers for Wahoo tomorrow partly cloudy leward partly sunny Windward East Winds at 10 to 15 some passing showers in Maui County highs in the middle 80s for your Thursday Big Island probably the best chance of rain some scattered showers Windward and over towards the homo Coastline not a whole lot though for the Kona side there 76 the low up to around 88 trades a little bit lighter that's going to make it feel hot tomorrow East Winds 10 to 15 of course we've got the holiday weekend ahead and we'll take you through it tomorrow some hit Miss scattered rain Friday looking depending on the path of the remnants of Gilma looks like we'll see a good chance of scattered showers Saturday lingering rain of course we got a a big game uh UCLA and unfortunately decent chance of rain so you want to bring the uh the rain jacket just in case and then on Sunday we start to dry out but it stays humid the best day of the weekend is probably going to be Labor Day on Monday as we dry out and those trades return at the East at 10 to 20 miles hour
