faithful ready to go here in Morgantown what a game and what potential drama we have in store you've seen this script before top 10 team goes into a cauldron of emotion on the road and just hopes to be able to get out in about as we see the number seven team in the country the Penn State NY lions taking on a team from the Big 12 the West Virginia Mountaineers for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis joined here in the boo by David Pagan Jesse Palmer and guys let's get this thing started looking for those open spaces and opportunity nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 the niit Lions his offense will take the first swing of the game and there's a man who believes he is always open he carries that swag in that aura of a big time playmaker guys he's got to catch the football if you're the quarterback coming into this one you are looking for this guy early and David you're looking for him often and this offense better find ways to feature him find him like you said Jesse early often deep shallow get this man the football now on First and 10 from the 29 he leaves it with the back he's got a yard out to the 30 yd line I'll tell you this is a running back who's very very dangerous and the defense did a good job getting him down there but you got to do a great job game tackling because this is a guy that can break tackles and turn those types of plays into home runs didn't get much on first down it's second and nine wants to throw it's Allard unloads to the wide out got him downfield and a pick up of better than 30 yds on that completion before the defense brings him down well after that last play you can see how electrifying this guy is and how special he is after he makes the catch if I'm on offense I'm trying to find a lot of ways to get him touches in this game the nney Lions getting set on First and 10 out of the gun they'll run it inside a most efficient pick up of six on first down it's second and four coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just like got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four he's looking to [Applause] throw grab near the marker it's sers he makes the tackle at the 23 yd line but not before a pick up of five anding up for the first down great job by the quarterback thrown against Zone coverage you cannot Telegraph where you're throwing the football you cannot eyeball wide receiver so great job by the quarterback using his eyes not staring down his guy and then throwing him open from the gun running back gets to give he get him down cough run picks up four they'll mark it at the [Music] 19 solid pick up a four on first down it's second and six he's looking to throw he got it and he was thinking six but that D knocks him down at the two I don't know who on defense is going to cover this guy honestly he could be a problem for this defense over the middle of the field in the passing game the nitty Lions trying to pay off the threat on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the run and he takes it to the house touchdown NY lias the offense goes as he goes so really no surprise in the opening drive they keep feeding him the football he shows you all of his ability on that TD [Music] [Music] ling up to add another is on for the extra [Applause] point and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game to a drive there of 84 yds and close the deal with a three yd touchdown [Music] run the kickoff unit about to go to work set to go he return inside his SP really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 so West Virginia's offense taking the field for a chance we have to see them today and this one ought to be a ton of fun a couple of guys who operate at an ultra Elite level man and you just know you're going to get points today both offenses have great signal callers great quarterbacks so you know every possession Jesse really matters yeah this is a quarterback do right no mistake about it and honestly this game could come down to which guy has the ball last let's see what they've got on second down from the gun the running back has it get a bit of a surge and he's knocked down after picking up three to the 26 all right well the offense here they're trying to get this run game established they obviously don't break off a long run there but they're just trying to find their footing at this point facing a third down and short from the [Applause] 26 he'll try to pop the draw sweet beat on the Move nice job to get it past the sticks and they get him down at the 35 well the defense is on their heels right now they're going to have to find a way to stop this guy he's got a head of steam Bo he is hard to bring down they'll snap it on first down from the [Applause] 35 the give on the inside that's a really nice play it's impressive it's first down the defense thinks you might be running the football you still can line up you get some movement at the point of attack and find a little crease for your running back after the three- yd pickup they come to the to the line Second and [Applause] seven they go to the ground a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior they're facing a third down to the air it's green looking to the big tight end and they'll miss the connection here on third down now fourth down the Mountaineers send out the punt unit the punter going to get his first work of the afternoon [Applause] they'll get him corow and down at about the 19 yd line and state sends the offense back onto the field Jesse a very productive Drive last time wound up with a touchdown yeah mixing and matching play calling really well nice balance on that last one day see what they can do here in the snatching Drive yeah and I don't expect anything different when you put together a drive like that I would do more of the same keep the pace keep it going [Music] time winding down in the quarter as they come to the line now the play fake throws for the tight end a strike downfield got a lot of room to the right the 20 the tag and he ran away from the defense to take it in c p and back in the day you used to line up and your tight endend was a blocker and you threw it to him short now these guys are being so dynamic in space and so athletic now they can make big huge plays for your offense and put points on the board in a [Music] hurry they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point makes it 14 nothing we've come to the end of the quarter and it's Penn State on top they wanted to strike first and strike hard and they've been able to do that here in the first quarter as we take a look at the [Music] stats now the challenge here they've taken a punch but they can't let it get out of hand as we start the second they're lining up to boot it away set a kick this one here he comes from inside his own five didn't find any creas in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook now we'll get a chance to see if they can answer that last score trailing by 14 Jesse Yeah at this point of the game I feel like offensively you should go back to what's been working for you in this game don't be afraid to dial up plays that you've already had success with running it and throwing it it's okay to repeat plays down 14 at this point and I would also say Palmer kind of understanding that my defense is not playing great so I know offensively I got to put some good possessions together here make something happen on this side of the football into a massive giant bodies we'll call it a one yd gain to the 24 and sticking to the run I tell what a lot of team team that are really good are really stubborn and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running the football you can tell and the Mountaineers want to pick up the [Applause] tempo to the air it's green they're bringing heat sings it out to his running back good tackle there to stop him short of the first down it'll bring up a big decision they' hope to be able to pick up enough after the catch but a good stop leaves them with a fourth and short really good job by the defense being physical understanding the situation in the game the ball's going to come out quick you know that go make the tackle Force the fourth down fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch the nitty Lions going back to work on offense now they've jumped on them executing at a high level and up 14 nothing David this is the exact start you want I me offense is playing great defense has gotten stops you're in a position now Palmer to put the hammer down and get a three possession I'm really impressed with their physicality on both sides of the ball early in this one they've been winning in the trenches so here on offense keep running the football in show your dominance now here on second down see if they keep tossing it around [Applause] leaves it with the Running Back Drag down after a pick up of five after the 35 running backs Square their shoulders up that's when they have the most power you see them Square his shoulders up break tackles be strong continue to plow his way forward just making it really easy on everybody in this offense by breaking tackles these are the types of plays where offenses impose their will third and short from the 45 here comes the option he just has a nose for those little crevices to be able to find space and he picks up the first down and that's good enough for first [Applause] down and the nitty lions come to the line with a fresh set of downs the give to the tail back me feel when he's got r oh big Juke to get past and stampeding through the defense touchdown nitty Lions he shed tackles like a snake getting rid of his skin there's a reason they call this dude a big playmaker moments just like that one big time playmaker can make plays all over the field from all different spots that's why you got to find ways to give him touches as much as possible cuz he'll make it [Music] happen lining up for the pat for the extra point and with the the extra point they're up 21 to nothing quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and the scoring play came on a 61 yd touchdown run just about set to kick it away3 set to kick it away he'll bring it out it's white rolling the dice to bring it out of the end zone did not work out as he stopped at the 13 West Virginia has it in the offense ready to go to work they just haven't been able to get anything going and they better get started or it's going to get away from them Dave yeah and these are the weeks that you really wish that you were playing a video game and you could just reset the console start over Jesse and make something better happen early they just look like they're sleepwalking in this first half and it's not just one guy they they just haven't been playing collectively as a unit and if I'm the head coach I'm considering starting to give some other dudes some chances here one step W twep squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground well the QB decided to keep it on that one and listen if you had his athleticism you'd want to keep it too almost every time they run these types of option plays but he's just going to have to do a good job of understanding when to hand it off when to pitch it and try to keep this defense on their heels and read his keys he's got a lot of talent just got to make sure he's making the right decisions moving forward the quick out and they wrap him up and not before he gets enough on the catch with a first down first down West Virginia here's this offense with a fresh set of downs wants to throw on first down fires to the wide out a beautifully placed ball to the outside in the tow drag for the big pickup they've been completely lethargic in this first half but finally some signs of life and we've seen it Rees throughout time throughout college football history you get that one big play momentum starts to come in and I don't know what it is it changes everything maybe that's the play they needed to finally get some points on the scoreboard before the half and the timing just a hair off incomplete got to give the defense a lot of credit man CU they've come into this hostile environment they've quieted the crowd down with some of the plays they're making they've got a nice lead right here and they're making it hard for this quarterback to go to work now on second down after the incompletion to the air it's green throws to the wide out complete downfield and he's brought down after a nice game and when you get so dble to C the wide receiver Sprints off the ball you know what happens that DB starts to bail and that wide receiver comes back and it's easy pitch and catch for the offense the Mountaineers come to the line in the hurry up looking to throw it again right down the middle holds it in he's there to make the stop but the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on the throwing catch going to sit back in zone I'm going to make sure I know exactly what they're doing find those holes find those Crossing patterns and take advantage of that zone coverage finally this offense starting to shake the cobwebs and get things moving it's first and 10 and the ball is intercepted got some room to run at the 30 he's at the 10 and he's going to run it all the way back touchdown pen State look a lot of time left there's a little bit of distance right now being put on the scoreboard there is but it's so awesome when you're at defense and you study all week about what's coming and what routes to be ready for and then you jump the route and you make the play and you just go get in that End Zone it is so [Music] beautiful lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point make to 28 eight to nothing that makes the score 2 West Virginia Z they're lining up to kick it off after the pick six and that defense will come out feeling it he'll bring it back from inside his SP able to find enough room to get it out across the 25 he's brought down at the 26 West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook they find themselves in a pretty deep hole here but maybe a chance to grab a little momentum and regroup at halftime yeah a big chance like this is this is an opportunity this is the biggest opportunity in front of them in the game right now you got to get some points on the board you got to create something positive Jesse there hasn't been a whole lot to be positive about in the first half if I'm playing quarterback I'm locating my go-to guy receiver who can I count on oneon-one to go and make me a play maybe even one on two who can go up catch the ball ball get us some yards and get us some points there's a timeout call as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer here on third down they'll try to get it through the air got it in the middle it's Fox here's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half shotgun fundamentals are so key he was like a short stop caught the shotgun snap and right away rifled it out of his hands like he was turning two that was beautiful and good coverage by the defense just a short game that's a good job by the drag route there understanding its Zone coverage so instead of continuing to run across the field he settles down into an open spot making it easy for his quarterback time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half we've got a timeout in the waning seconds of the half maybe a chance to get off a couple more played just enough time for one final play in this half looking downfield it's green he tosses one high and deep down the left side the pass Ball's incomplete and that's how we'll finish this half we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connors in our halftime update all right fellas the end of a very intriguing first two quarters of football in Morgantown and we've got to start our halftime breakdown with this Superstar running back his elusiveness his raw power this young man is the total package and his ability to catch the ball out of the back field is a differentiator a lot of guys can hit the hole this kid can hit the hole and hit the home run in the passing game and with that let's take the old country roads on our our way back to Mountaineer field [Music] [Music] [Applause] the NY Lions will kick it off to start the second half and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 West Virginia has it in the offense ready to go to work huge deficit to start this third quarter they just need to find something to build a little confidence yeah it hasn't gone well um when you're trailing by this this much this first drive man does everything matter and hinge on this cuz every possession in the second half is going to be critical yeah and I think if you're on offense why hold back what are you worried about nothing went well in the first half for you and at this point trailing by as much as you are throw caution to the wind be aggressive and let's just see what [Applause] happens pulls and throws off the RPO he is tackled but it'll be a fresh seter down the biggest CH for me if I could make point in all of college football would be illegal man downfield and when they run these RPO plays and those Linens start to creep further and further down the field I would love for the refs to call those more often it's a cheating play basically running these rpos so hard to stop nice execution by the offense but probably cheating too didn't get a whole lot of room for R he picked up one or two and a lot of times you want those big plays you want those Splash plays but sometimes you're going to take some losses you're not going to run the football overly well but if you continue to run you can at least create some balance you at least have the threat of it otherwise you're just going to abandon it and now it's just going to be a passing game now they'll run the draw he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple you know you got to be careful when you're running the draw play CU you're hoping those defensive ends get way up the field thinking it's pass didn't happen that time and the defense was able to get a negative play they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here dropping back it's green using the quick game put it right on him sweet play good pick up and they'll move the chain with the first down you got to give the old line a lot of credit there because he gave the receiver time to work all the way across the field on the drag route against Zone coverage quarterback gets it to him he's able to turn it up and get a first down and the Mountaineers have their offense in high gear from the gun they'll try to impose their running game and they'll stop him after a minimal pickup that's a really good job by the defense wrapping him up getting him on the ground take away that run game make them onedimensional put him in passing situations really good job by the defense after picking up a couple it's second and eight he's looking to throw excellent coverage and good use of the hands to knock it away you know as an offense when you trying to complete these tunnel screens you're going to have to be able to negotiate some of these Defenders near the line of scrimmage they're all looking to swat it away good job by the defense there after the second down misfire looking at a third and eight from the gun wants to pass time to take a shot and he makes a catch inside the 25 and the tackle was made but not before that completion gets him 30 plus first down well they're going to get back in this game they need more plays like that that was something that was missing in the first half explosive plays in the passing game and they get one here trailing early in the third quarter let's see if these receivers can make more plays like that as this game goes on from the Red Zone looking for a space gets it out quickly they get it down to the the seven on that pass play in Prime position for a score well the defense playing Zone coverage there they're taking away all of the QB's primary options down the field so he has to check it down to the drag running underneath going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone the lone backs got it he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple that back had absolutely nowhere to run the football actually counting I think he's counting to make sure there's only 11 guys on defense tight quarters deep in the Red Zone but they can pick up a first down without scoring third down looking to throw it's green and he can't find his Man In The End Zone as he was trying to pay off this Red Zone chance third and short that choose not to run throw the football and I think a lot of that has to do with they know they're in field goal range they can take the three points on the board and here comes the field goal unit from the right hash and this distance makes that angle not quite so severe it's good and that one dead solid perfect [Music] after putting three on the board the kickoff unit ready to go on the football on the move from inside is five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic that they get him on the ground at the 20 men State s the defense back onto the Field hold it finds his man on the left they make the stop but this passing game does some damage and they move the sticks with the first down we see another catch by this guy and this defense is going to need to do a better job of tackling the catch in coverage I know they want to slap the ball away but if you can't do it and force the incompletion you've got to at least make sure you're able to drag him down to the ground as soon as he catches the ball running back searching for a hole they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one yeah and listen the offense has had their way and they've had so much success and so much production but listen at least the defense got a rep you know maybe this gets you some a spark maybe this get you some energy maybe we'll see a little bit more life from this defense yeah they may not win the game but I think this defensive coaching staff at this point based on how this game has gone they're just trying to find things to build off of maybe that's something they can point to as they get ready for their next opponent of things they did right and things that they got to do more consistently moving for another good run man he has been picking up yards in bunches today Jesse showing off all the skills and he's showing no signs of slowing down David this guy just gets better as the game goes on he is a beast the nitty Lions have it with a first and 10 looking for a crease it's Singleton and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before for the defense brings it to an end and it's really nice to have a Workhorse running back that you know you can feed and get productive gain after gain now over a 100 yards you've already got some separation on the scoreboard I would continue to feed this work horse the give to the back and they get him on the ground and that'll probably do it for the third quarter we've come to the end of the quarter and it's pen State on top they built a comfortable lead after 34 of play Let's Take a look at how we got [Music] here one more period to go and we'll see just how much fight they've got left in them picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down give to the single back they worked that running game down to the 34 let's give him three on the carry it's third down [Music] lining up to convert third [Music] down they'll give it to the back and the defense knew exactly where that first down line was and they sto him short keep the foot on the pedal if you're on offense here you got that yardage yeah you didn't get the first down but you set yourself up now to go for it here and keep this drive alive and they'll send out the kicker to try a field goal and they weren't able to get him in the middle of the field so now a 49 yder from the right hatch never a doubt for this bigf footed guy 49 yd field goal is good West Virginia [Music] they keep pushing that lead out and the kickoff team's getting some work returner is going to try to see what he can get and they'll bring him down to get the offense started on the next Drive West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook always good to get points on a drive David but Chip Shot field goals can leave you a little empty and I think it's great to get point and he is snowed under sacked at the seven this quarterback has been under duress all game long he's one of the best in the country and he's used to having his way he's the one who's used to dictating to opposing defenses but that has not been the case in this game here we are late he's still under pressure taking a sack there hoping to find one that works this time on second down from the seven dropping back it's green unloads to the wide out it's complete that is exactly what you're looking for when you talk explosiv play the defense finally able to make the stop the offens is struggled they're not going to win this game but trust me this coaching staff is still trying to find things to build off of for next week and after an explosive play like that maybe they can generate just a little bit of momentum and gain a little bit of confidence that they can keep coaching up heading into their next game makes the grab it's Fox well here's the problem offensively because you're trailing by so much so so late in the game the defense now is going to be playing big Zone coverages and they're going to allow you to throw the ball underneath in the middle of the field rally to make a tackle and bleed the clock it's going to be hard now for this offense to claw their way back in this one and now on second down for this offense he's looking to throw fires to the middle he's got an open man and there was lots of space as he gets it to the 39 yd line you know tight ends are such matchup nightmares and problems for defense they're too big for DBS to cover and they're too fast for linebackers to cover you saw it right there the Mountaineers are flying down the field they want to just keep throwing it got it in the middle it's Gallagher they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down Mark and defensively this is exactly what you want right you got the big lead so you can play Big Zone coverages just keep the ball in front of you keep your eye on the quarterback rally to the football gang tackle and you're going to win this game he's looking for a man on second down quickly complete they make the stop but not before they do their work up top and pick up a first down that was a nice pick up running the drag route and finding that quiet soft spot in the zone yeah drag routes not only work against man coverage they work against zone two if you can find the soft spot and the quarterback gets it to him early he can turn up field and you saw that right there back to pass it's greed and he'll make the grab along the sideline but not able to get to the first down Mark and just understanding where you're out on the field make sure you get those feet down before you get too close to that sideline so I get credit for that catch nice job nice pitch nice catch and the Mountaineers looking to take advantage of this Red Zone trip the inside handoff and they make the tackle but he has plenty for the first down man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out the Mountaineers with the first and 10 [Applause] they'll give it to him again and he rolls into the house cut down M yeah and listen that that is awesome to see you guys continue to fight continue to keep competing because this game is over like we don't need to fool y'all we're not trying to get y'all to stick around and improve ratings like the game's over but you're continuing to fight the powered in for the touchdown and show your kids that we're going to always fight no matter what the score is P unit on the field for the extra point and the extra point gets him a little closer at 31 Mak 3 they're down big but they'll keep fighting to The Bitter End and line up for the onsite kick here that's why they call them the hands team they're able to secure the onside kick first down here with time for maybe one more play until the two-minute [Music] warning they'll run it trying to drain time off the clock solid fundamentals on that tackle from this freshman we reach the two-minute warning in this offense will be quite content just to drain the rest of the time away after picking up a couple at second and eight from the gun give on the inside and a good solid pick up before the defense Cuts him down and I'm a fan of this man run the football eat the clock we got the lead this offense has put together a nice day man like just balance rhythm timing play calling everything has worked that's why they built this lead they've had a great day today and that last run leaves him with a third down will they keep it on the ground hand off to the lone back they tried to go Smash Mouth on Third and short and it did not work against this defense man that's a really good job by the defense cuz when you get in that third and medium area listen you got to be worried about the run and the pass did a good job playing B got it stopped now forcing a fourth down now on fourth down they'll settle for a field goal try he's already made one field goal but this one going to need a big leg a 50 yd attempt coming oh the attempt is no good miss the field goal but still up by three touchdowns 21 [Music] West Virginia hasn't the offense ready to go to work this offense needs something to feel good about it hasn't been very productive today Jesse well I think it's just important they stay aggressive try to throw the football and just see what this quarterback can do here at the end of the game to build confidence for the next time you take the field yeah and there hadn't been much good today but uh build confidence sure but just show your team you're going to keep fighting no matter what the scoreboard says after the incompletion let's see if they go back to the air on second and 10 from the 33 looking to throw it's green that pass is incomplete and they might be fortunate it wasn't knock free for a fumble it'll be third down this defense has put a game together like it is hard to put all the facets of Defense together run defense pass defense they've been so good man dialed in you could tell they were ready they were fast they were physical they dominated this football game makes a connection timeout called by the offense but stop with 21 seconds left here they come first 10 from the 48 well look that wasn't a touchdown but that was a massive play for this offense they needed some momentum they needed to find a rhythm in what better way than converting on a third down awesome job my and listen the defense playing really concer right you got the lead but here's what I'm trying to do I'm trying to get sacks I got to get to the quarterback like I got to make sure I'm getting him knocking him off the spot patting my stats by the way got a lot of sacks late in games and we had a big lead but that's okay that's what you're supposed to do keep competing defense looking to throw on second down and that pass is intercepted and he returned that into reverse skate in a hurry and takes it to the 46 take this is a beautiful situation for the defense when you're up by two plus scores and you're in this situation you know exactly what is coming it's going to be a pass they have to because the clock is their enemy great job playing pass forcing the interception almost putting the nail in the coffin running out the clock seems to be a mere formality here as they are ready to snap it in Victory formation the defense still has a couple of timeouts at its disposal but down a couple of possessions the offense will take a knee [Music]
