welcome everyone to Louisville Kentucky and we may be in the Blue Grass state but blue is the color to avoid if you love the homestanding Louisville Cardinals today a clash between a couple of ACC rivals in a game that could have big time implications for the rest of the season as we'll see the Pittsburgh Panther taking on the 20th ranked team in the land the Louisville Cardinals for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David Pollock and Jesse Palmer and guys can't wait to get this one started [Applause] and the Cardinals will put total weather to crank us up on the run from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 the Panthers offense will get the first swing of the game and when you have a quarterback like this guy the entire offense feeds off of him David oh everybody feeds off of his energy and the whole playbooks open because you can and Trust on him he's Dependable bmer he's also one of those guys if you wasting no time taking a shot and that will be incomplete man that would have been a big hitter if they could have done it the second down coming really nice play by the defender being in a good position for that deep ball down the field not letting the receiver put his big body on him go up over top the only thing that could have been better is that thing tipped to another Defender and it was an interception but great coverage by the defender trying to make that Rush think on the draw play here just gets it to the 28 pick up of one now that's what you're trying to do as a defense limit those damage when they run the football get them on the ground short gains to set your defense for positive situations down the lad so already a challenge on this opening drive it's third and nine wants to throw it's yarell a strike downfield found a bunch of room and got it to the 44 yd line talking to this coaching staff they felt they had matchups in the passing game that they could win and they wanted to test this defense and see if they could take the top off well you saw it right there opening drive of the game they're being aggressive they're taking a shot and they come up with a big one and trust me fellas they're going to keep taking those shots because they've got some dudes outside they'll throw it on first down wide open downfield he knew exactly where he wanted to go with that one and they've got enough for the first down I'll tell you what that's great execution between the QB and receiver they look like they could execute that throw in their sleep quarterback took his steps threw it on time great route by the receiver nice job securing the catch the Panthers are moving quickly down the field on the move it's Hammond not much working there it'll be second and nine and these defensive tackles just eat people they swallow human beings when you get near them they're so big so strong those guys those running backs coming they just need a mid they put one mid on a running back and he usually falls to the ground just because of their sheer mass and strength give to the running back they make the tackle after gets two down to the [Applause] 25 they run into a bit of trouble here third and long from the 25 and the last thing they want is to get knocked out of field goal range looking down the middle all kinds of room to throw that one in there gets it inside the five down to the four it will be first and goal really nice job there at the quarterback reading coverage he knew exactly where to go with the football and at what exact time the timing could not have been better they get the completion on third down setting up first and goal and the Panthers are threatening on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the run that play just never had a chance they knock him down for a loss of five so on offense you got to find a way to put six up on the bo you know that in this game field goals may not get it done so big time players make big plays in big games who can you rely on right now to get you a touchdown defense rolls up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming they'll run it up the middle here looking for a path to the end zone forges ahead for one to the 8 yd line [Applause] third and goal from way back [Applause] there looking to throw it's yarell he makes the grab and they've got him down after the short completion but they inch closer and closer to per they allowed the completion but this defense was swarming to keep them away from that first down line yeah and you allow completions in those third down situations underneath the sticks and you come up and rally and everybody flies to the football that's great execution by this defense oh that one will leave a mark no good and the score will stay right where it is after that Miss on the road in a hostile environment they're trying to seize momentum right out of the gate you get a nice drive to start the game and then you miss the field goal you don't get any point to show for that if they're going to win this one guys they've got to take advantage of those types of opportunities first down here for the offense wide receiver shows motion trying to get the corner on the Jet Sweep may not be the most memorable play of the day but it's important as he gets them out to the 25 yd line random ball on first down let's see what they do on second going with the counter play here Works ahead for a couple they'll stop him at the 27 I like feeding my guy I like getting my running back touches feeding the ball so he can break some of those big runs but I'm also okay with these little ones set the tone stay balanced they'll try to move the chains on Third and short from the 27 they'll try to get the first through the air got his man downfield ripped off a huge chunk play on that one as he gets the first down before he steps out of bounds well ree you and I were talking about this before the game how is this defense going to be able to deal with all the speed they have offensively you saw them just rip off a big play and Jesse now they're head spinning just a little bit give up a big chunk play and it's right back at him the Cardinals come to the line with a new set of downs they'll run it from the gun on the mve is at 30 just carving up this defense and getting it down to the 24 defense is going to have their hands full trying to stop this guy they better rally to the football and get multiple hats cuz he is not easy to bring [Applause] down and the Cardinals look to keep this drive humming dropping back it's Shu catch open down the middle great job creating space that's what you're supposed to do when you get man covered you got to find a way to get a step make it easy for your quarterback to read that leverage and when he drags across the field he can see had him he completes it for the first down the Cardinals are threatening in the Red Zone here's the handoff staying physical in the red zone as he's pulled down after picking up three balls at the 14 as they get set to snap at time winding down here in the quarter it'll be a run on Third and short there to make the tackle and that's how we'll wrap up this first period we've reached the end into the first quarter and it has been a defensive battle and the stats tell the tal so far let's see if the offenses can find a little rhythm here in the second it's first down from the 11 from the gun the G looking for room Relentless tough running gets it down to the four listen you you got to be able to know what play to and what hole to go through like the line blocks for a certain hole good job getting through the hole getting what was blocked getting a nice positive game making your situation really good on the next down going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the End Zone from the gun running back on the move they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one listen I know there are a lot of DBS out there that all they want to do is get interceptions and dance in the end zone Zone this dude likes to put his face in the fan get close to the line of scrimmage and tackle and on the opening drive that he's out there he gets a huge tackle for loss early that is a statement play back to throw it's shot he makes a catch in the end zone touchdown Cardinal but how about the off they spread him out everybody spread wide easier to read a defense when you do that they find the matchup they want and they getting rewarded with the [Music] SC lining up for the pat for the extra point and he's got the extra point and it's seven nothing to start this one so it's an 80 yd drive and the score comes on a 5yd touchdown pass the kickoff team takes the field to boot this one [Applause] away he'll bring it back from inside to five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the pit offense back on the field and ready to roll you want to talk about taking the wind out of your sails Drive the ball down the field and miss the field goal David you know what don't leave it up the kick you execute better offensively I think you move the ball nice you got to keep that in mind but over I think you got to stay aggressive and don't settle for field goals yeah because you got to know there's just no margin for error right now you just have got to be able to execute at of power L good spot after that seveny pickup on first down it's second and three sweet beat on the Move tackled after picking up the first down well there we go we finally see some life in this offense running the football nice game to pick up the first down got to get more of that going moving forward because they have not run it one lining up from the 34 on first down leaves it with the running back you want to make sure to maximize those types of runs and he gets it out to the [Applause] 41 they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three motion from the offense touch pass on the Jet Sweep he's really close to that first first down marker but they stop him just a bit shter [Applause] thir ball is at the 42 yd line close to four down territory here's third and short they'll try to run for it and they did not let him reach the line gain it'll bring up a decision [Applause] here it will line up to PL it [Applause] away smashes through they'll get down and put a stop to this return they'll mark it at the 32 Louisville has it back in the offense coming out ready to attack they'll run it finds enough room to get three out to the 34 and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs got three on first down at second and [Applause] seven scanning the the field it's Shu makes his connection and they bring him down quickly but a good game [Applause] there passing game very effective on second down what about here on third they'll try to pick it up on the ground had been he's got R that'll be enough for the first down as they stop him at the 43 yd line you don't always have to run the sexy plays right it doesn't have to always be uptempo and fast and spread and doing all this stuff sometimes you just lower your shoulder sometimes you just run powerfully you get the first down and that's all that matters and the Cardinals will snap it on First and 10 fast motion from the offense right back to the well and a good solid pick up before the defense Cuts him down just a simple power play again not sexy run the ball up the middle physicality offensive line gets to assert themselves run block what they love to do this pays dividends down the road in the fourth quarter after the productive first down play it's second and six headed for the corner on the Jet Sweep he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and I think in today's era of college football we get enamored with the Jet Sweep it's exciting you're getting this wide receiver involved in the Run game but sometimes it's just better to go old school and just run the football conventionally north south we've reached a two-minute warning and we'll see if the offense can build on this lead before the break if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum on Third and long try to convert through the air On Target to the left and they'll finally catch up to him but not before a big chunk of yardage is picked up that's what's so scary about this offense they've got guys in the perimeter that can change the game in one single play and you saw it right there too much speed on the perimeter to create that explosive play now down to the 12 yd line it's first down looking to move it through the air catch in the middle it's lacy tackled immediately after the catch and I love when my quarterback sees Zone and knows exactly where to go with the football sees the wide receiver running the drag route knows when to throw it pulls the trigger for the easy completion going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down looking to pass it's Shu that's it Fly and that ball is picked off and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball ball back for to timing has to be so good when you're throwing into his own defense over the middle of the field the ball's got to come out specifically on time cuz these windows close really quickly ball there thrown a little bit late as a result it's an INT the Pittsburgh offense is back on the field that last Drive fizzled out Jesse they had to punt it yeah they did and David they're just going to have to do a better job this time around erasing the mental mistakes and just trying to solve the defensive ridle understanding what they're trying to do to you and attack them looking at a second and short [Applause] now wants to go up top and that's going to be incomplete a lot of contact on the play but no Flags it'll be third down well that's just a great play by the defender and great timing it was the hit that forced that [Music] incompletion you've got a third and manageable back up in your own end but convert here and you get some momentum they'll try to pick up the first through the air got it in the middle it's mfield there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer they'll snap it from the 39 first and 10 he's looking to throw it fires to the right PS it in running toward the tape what a play there and he's got it all the way down to the seven yd line what a great play call offensively taking the shot you flip the field and now you better get those Red Zone play calls ready and dialed up and backed up first and goal this defense fighting to hold the lead and carry it to the locker room dropping back it's Yarnell feeling some heat and he'll Chuck it into the cheap seats there and save the down nobody getting open there defense rolls up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming he's looking to throw and it'll be incomplete this defense is physical and pass deep it's tough to throw the ball down here in the Red Zone man these windows they open and they close so quickly you've got to have great timing and right now this offense doesn't have it they've thrown two straight incompletions setting up third down it's still third and goal from the gun wants to pass he got him they will score touchdown pit well they started with horrible field position but ended with perfect field position in the middle of the End Zone it all comes down to execution ree you've got to have guys going out and doing their jobs you saw the offensive line up front they were physical skill players made it happen with the ball in their hands and the quarterback really showed command on that last [Music] drive now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic bangs it through for an extra point point is good that TI the game [Applause] they got the late touchdown on the board now about to kick it away and hoping the defense can keep them from answering and he takes this from inside the five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 the Lille offense is headed back out on the field now they're backed up here Jesse wonder how aggressive they're willing to be I think it's going to come down to how much confidence they have in this quarterback and his decision making because you cannot throw an interception at this part of the field with this little time left and I think that's conversations you've had with a young fell on the sidelines being like what are you comfortable with right here that we can run maybe stay aggressive but make sure I don't make that mistake LLY getting set on second down first half in the books time now to join Kevin Connor in our halftime update guys who's had a better seat there in Louisville for a fun first half than you it's been very evenly played through two quarters both teams have been physical both teams have battled there in the trenches neither has been perfect but they're both right there in this game and it's kind of the Cal before the storm each side sort of licking their wounds right now but expect another fight in a phone booth in this second half and with that let's send it back to the phyas at Ellen and Federal Credit Union Stadium pit will kick off ready to get things started here in the third quarter here he comes from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 rouille has it back in the offense coming out ready to attack grabbed in the middle it's lacy and just a short safe pass play they pick up a few brings up second down still some work to do after that last completion it's second down they'll ride the running back and leave it with him and he's brought down at the 40 yd line and that'll be a first down you know you start day one of training camp running your BAS runs you need a few yards you run these plays you need a first down you run these plays you rep them over and over and over again not sexy they're not pretty but in the end they're effective and they get you that new set of downs when you need them looking to throw it's shot quickly to the tight end and he laid the lumber to stop him from getting the first down you know I know it seems like an easy pitch and catch but for the tight end there that route potentially changes if it's man coverage so good job by him knowing it Zone I'm just going to sit down this is basically like a checkdown right let's just take the easy pitch and catch and keep this drive going the give to the tail back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple man how fast did they get in there and make that tackle for a loss if you blinked you missed it nice job by the defense getting penetration everybody up near the line of scrimmage shooting the gaps quick getting in the back field getting the guy on the ground ball is at the 41 as this defense tries to force the punt on Third and long gets it out quickly and boy is he close to that first down maybe just a couple of inches short one of the things I love about this defense is they just have such great awareness and they're always communicating they understood the down and distance they knew exactly what they needed to do to make the tackle to force the P that is so well done the Cardinals will punt it away on fourth down first punt of the day and he Lov to lock them up close to their goal line the pit offense back on the field and ready to roll how big is this drive scored a touchdown the last time they had it defense gets a stop and now it's up to them in a tie game all right so if you're the offensive coordinator here let's dial it in who are your best matchups and best Playmakers to take advantage of this golden opportunity yeah and I'm interested to see this defense too like the momentum is clearly not in your favor how do you get it back how do you make a big play you be more aggressive here to try to get the football back to your offense after that last completion it's second down he's looking to throw caught close to the marker it's Williams they make the stop but this passing game does some damage and they move the sticks with the first down I think this receiver's Forte is his route running he's a guy that can line up all over the field but it's not just catching post routes and goes this guy can run shallows he can can run Slants he can run the option routes and find soft spots in the defense this guy really has all the routes in his toolbx they pick up half of it it'll be second and five it's a nice game but the big theme Here is they just haven't been able to get the Run game going on offense they've been very onedimensional they're just not being physical enough to attack halfway there on first down it's second and five [Applause] caught behind the line it's Reynolds and not much doing there as that defense runs him out of bounds and offenses nowadays they're really just counting numbers how many guys do you have out wide how many guys do I have if I have enough guys to block your guys Bo we just built into the offense pitch catch let me get a few yards third down after the run to throw it's jarnell [Applause] unloads to the wide out makes a connection and they reacted well to the completion but it was too L to keep them from getting the first down and had they not picked up that first down it would have been decision time for the head coach right you're kind of in no man's land on the fridge are you trying along field goal are you going for it on fourth down but because of the execution there and the nice throw let's keep this drive going let's see if we can get six to the air on first down grabbed in the back field it's Hammond he is stopped behind the line of scrimmage they'll lose yards on that one you know you got to be careful as a Keb throwing to your running back in man coverage if there's a linebacker draped all over him but that that Ball's not going anywhere you just saw it right there better play by the defense and here comes the offense on second down from the shotgun now here's an inside GI he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple they thought maybe they could get the defense flowing the wrong way on the counter but they were not fool get them flowing one way and then maybe hit that outside on the other side right but they didn't even let it get outside they kept it right in the middle of the field did a great job seeing it going and getting it being aggressive you got to find a different way maybe to attack these guys to use their speed against them and the defense will Coral the quarterback and down he goes at Midfield well this is a quarterback who's not known for his running ability obviously we've seen him make some great throws but Mobility that's probably not on your bingo card you saw it right there he gets brought down for the [Music] sack hit will have to boot this one away second time today they've been forced to [Applause] punt and and the punt will hit at the seven and they can't Corral it it goes into the end zone it'll come out to the [Applause] 20 he'll come out throwing on first down makes the catch it's Bell love the location of the throw on that slant pass put it out in front of the receiver put it on his face Mas so he can catch it and try to [Applause] advance completion a little short of the sticks it's second down wide receiver now comes in motion they'll try the Run he's stopped after getting a yard out to the 30 and that was a nice second down run and setting up third and inches and now it's physical time right like they know you might run the football you know you probably want to run the football how can you be more physical sometimes bring some extra bodies some extra tight ends in go to that play that you know is your short yardage play on Third and short trying to impose their will and move the chains he was just a breath from taking that one all the way and he'll run that momentum right into the fourth quarter they fought tooth and nail through three and it is all locked up as we take a look at the [Applause] stats they'll break the seal on this quarter here on first down [Applause] he wants to [Applause] throw it's complete stopped after making the catch man this guy's going to need some water when he gets to the sidelines they've been putting him to work on this drive right we've seen him tote in the rock with success now you're seeing him get involved in the passing game too they are highlighting his versatility here on this drive and now on second down for this offense wide out in motion trying to get the edge on the Jet Sweep he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three defense was prepared and I'm really impressed by the eye discipline right now that's not easy to do it's not easy to locate that receiver coming across in motion with good timing and getting the Jet Sweep but they were ready for that play they'll try to pick up a few here on third down but from here it would be a 60yd attempt to the air it's shut pressure coming the little soft flip pass balls incomplete and finally the defense is able to get some pressure on this quarterback they had been trying all game long different ways to affect him weren't able to get there but on that play because of the pressure it affected his accuracy and that's why the ball falls into and the Cardinals will punt this one away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away and no shot at a return here as the punt FES out of bounds the Pittsburgh offense is back on the field they just didn't quite find the Rhythm on that last Drive Jesse they had to punt it I think they got to be more physical David I think up front they got to do a better job getting blocks and establishing this running back and how easy does football become if you're the more physical team if you can threaten the run and then then run play action it opens up the whole offense that your disposal after picking up a couple at second and eight from the gun the running back looking for room you want to make sure to maximize those types of runs and he gets it out to the 41 I think you run that play on second down knowing it's going to make Third Down Easy you're not trying to hit a home run you don't need the big play right now now you know third down everything's on the table everything's available High success rate they've got it at the 41 third and short trying to keep the chain moving now the toss they'll finally make the tackle but that option was executed to Perfection it's hard to stop great Runners it really is that's why you run the football consistently you got a big offensive line a big physical unit you run the football like this man it will take a toll later but you got to tackle this guy over and over again who has this ability to make people miss and make big plays wide receiver coming across in motion after run run run now throw oh he drops the football he had him right down the gut of the field instead it'll be second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again he'll keep it himself nice gain of six leaving them with third and four boy he chews up yards was really quick really decisive designed quarterback runs are are very difficult to stop and you could tell he's got some ability to make big plays but thank goodness they got him on the ground and it wasn't a bigger play than it could have been hoping to help there kick her out with a few yards on third down because from here it would be a 58 yder the short hands it's lead and the quarterback stuck it right in the keyhole and they've got it down to the 30 yd line that was is a really well-run route on the curl to pick up the first down yeah and it's a nice job too by the receiver getting his depth and then finding space in between the Defenders giving his quarterback a nice Target on the ground it's Hammond breaks the tackle that run epitomizes a veteran Savvy senior who knows how to find Space first down physicality wins football games being able to run the football and create balance and and right here just chews up another first down gives you another chance to maybe continue to run the football and I feel like this guy too is just an explosive play waiting to happen his vision his quickness and he's got a burst if you give this guy just a crease he's going to hit it and right now he's doing some damage on this defense though it wasn't an interception but a lot of times tips and deflections leads to interceptions great job by the defender getting his mid on the football they'll line up for a second down play off the bootleg to buy a little space finds his big tight end he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down it's so important that this offense is able to stay on schedule and what that means is keeping third Downs management that last completion to the tight end accomplished just that really nice play they'd love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and goal to the air it's jarnell shoots it to the left and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up on Third and short in field goal range they dial up the pass play quarterback was trying to get through his progressions there was just simply nobody open couldn't make an accurate enough throw ball Falls incomplete Now setting up a big decision here on fourth down so on fourth down here comes the field goal kicker in a huge spot never a doubt all field goals are not created equal guys kicks in the fourth quarter Take the Lead they just seem to carry so much more weight so give that young man credit for getting out there and knocking that thing through the uprights with all the pressure with all the eyeballs on him he delivered [Music] so they're lining up to kick it off after that last Drive put a three spot on the board and now the defense will try to shut him down from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 2 four the Louisville offense is headed back out on the field looking to go up top on first down how about getting the foot down on that throw for the big completion that looks like a real simple play by the wide receiver but give him a ton of credit that was an excellent route he never telegraphed that he was breaking to the outside kept his eyes downfield so when he cuts he's able to get maximum separation from the defender and that's why that play is successful going for the big play and they dialed up a shot play but they couldn't make the connection and that's why these guys play defense if that were an offensive player receiver that would have easily have been a catch come on man you got to catch that and make that a pick this offense has a second down play back to pass it's Shu he's got him this time and the catch was one thing and the Run even better a big pick up on that one yeah when you run those drag routes it just takes a little bit of knowhow and when I say that the receivers got to understand find Space my quarterback's going to find me he's looking for that space at the same time nice throw nice catch way to get the first down the Cardinals have it with a first and 10 he's going to pass unloads it left it's complete and he's brought down after a nice game he Unleashed that one some serious spin rate and revolutions on that one you want to talk about velocity how about the arm Talent this kid has I love watching him throw these curl routes he's in Rhythm he takes his steps and man when he decides to pull the trigger watch out we have reached the two-minute warning and time is of the essence if this offense is going to make a play with a first down they'll snap it from the 32 looking to move it through the air fires into traffic it's picked off takes it the other way he's at the 40 the 20 touchdown Pittsburgh and this defense coming up with points of their own what an interception return the it is one thing to come up with the interception no no no don't stop there turn it into a score make a big play and don't be content that's right go out and make an even bigger play and he does it he makes the pick and then takes it all the way back to the house look like a wide receiver for goodness sakes turning on the Jets making the big play they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point extends the lead to double figures at 10 that makes the score Pittsburgh 17 they'll kick it off and send that defense right back out there to try to score again after the pick six on the move from inside is five just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 Louisville has it back in the offense coming out ready to attack this possession will be a test after squandering that long drive throwing a pick six Jesse you're right reys well I think this is really dependent too on the leaders in this huddle right now to step up to help this offense get back on Pace here on this drive yeah and this defense is frothing at the mou they're excited they're jacked up they just made a big play they got all the momentum so they're ready to hunt using the quick game [Applause] trying to get everybody set with the clock still running looking for a man it's Shu he makes a catch and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play the offense uses a timeout to stop the clock and they'll get a quick breather they've marched to the Red Zone and here they go he'll take a shot and it's incomplete as he was trying to finish the drive with a score you know I feel for this offense if they're going to get back in the game I don't know if they're going to be able to do it with chunk plays they're going to have to be methodical and generate some first downs and March down the field after the misfire it's second down he's looking to throw makes the grab it's lacy and he takes this one into the end zone and all of a sudden we've got a chance in a finish and listen still a ways to go but great job by this offense getting you back in the ball game now we got a one possession game we' got our score we did what we're supposed to do now how do we get this stop now the defense has to come up big and get me the rock back [Music] they'll try to tack one more on their score extra point and the Pat will draw them one point closer a very efficient five-play scoring Drive and they close the deal with a 20yd pass for Six time is up the S is just under a minute to go as they line up for the onside kick he's able to grab the football and the hands team gets the job done defense showing plenty of pre- snap movement of their own their work here is virtually done no need to take any more chances they'll line up in
