hits for average but one of the things in today's game the value in the fact that he hits both righties and lefties just missed they're so riing on the matchups nowadays Chris and it's huge when you don't have to when you can hit you know both sides in terms of pitcher arms you're a guy that it's hard to take out of the lineup and I think it's very important today when everything is under the microscope Di and he can't hang on no throw and they don't get an out on the play batting one gone runner at first now it's the veteran outfielder tcar Hernandez right through there for a strike ball for a strike raised down by a run top half of inning number four pitch is in there and it's on two strike three got him with the back door breaking ball now the third baseman Christopher Morell went down on strikes his first time through in there for strike one swings and blasts one deep to left Center that one's back out of here his second home run of the series and the Rays Take the Lead it's 2-1 so two down Josh low next to hit for the Rays immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hit [Applause] waves at the Bender for the [Applause] strikeout ready to go for Freddy Freeman up to the dish ready Freeman the pitch well after SC R this is where you're looking for that shut down and get that hot team back in there to swing The Backs o and two now hard on the ground to First Diaz takes it to the bag and one gone in the fourth as they get the lead off man here's tcar Hernandez he's over for one FZ and a foul ball one down base is empty on the corner for a strike o and [Applause] two rips one to right no trouble here puts it away for the out and there's two away and up to the plate is Will Smith 0 for one he struck out swinging last time right through there for a we're back and here is Johnny Dua Dua 25 years old and they went out and made a trade for him last season fast ball in for a strike it's own one [Applause] kicks andial stays alive and he'll juk got him swinging and now it's Jose Siri grounded out his first time up here's a fun fact Dodgers stadium was also the home of the Los Angeles Angels for 4 years in the 1960s while they waited for Anaheim Stadium to be built when the Angels were playing games at home instead of Dodger Stadium they called it sh Ravine Stadium fast ball for a strike and it's one and one and he's swinging to miss one ball two straight threw open a little bit with that front shoulder but was able to slow his back down just enough to make contact with that pitch keep theat alive swing and a miss that one in the dirt in time for the second out good job to clean it up after the drop third strike and now the catcher for the Rays struck out looking his first time late with the swing there oh and one that one off Mark for a strike kicks and [Applause] fires B one I don't like to say he wasted a pitch I think that was a purpose pitch change the eye level have him look up now go back exactly where you want to go chase that [Applause] time bounced out to short and he's safe at first some strange defense there that may end up being in ADV bad we go back to later on when this game is over now let's see if they force some action with good Wheels on the bases now here is Miguel [Applause] Roos runner on the goal now this is a rocket to left calls it in for the out and up next for Los Angeles Gavin Lu struck out swinging his first [Applause] time and that's a little bit high and that is ball one in the air out towards Right Center Siri sizing this one up and there's two down here's Kik Hernandez the third baseman Kik Hernandez pick off throw Edmond back in standing that one finds the zone and it's one well this looks like it's going to be a wasted opportunity he frustrating when you get the lead off man on but you can't get him into scoring position they're need a big knock try to put something up on the board the 02 chase that time home team down a run last half of inning number five the onew gets a piece there we'll do it again that misses the Zone it's two and [Applause] two and the righty deals and another ball 32 two out runner on first lot of movement in the infield hitters got to stay focused on the pitch on the ground out to Short for it walls throws the first and that'll do it top of the sixth inning and here is Taylor walls wall the wi to kick the pitch and that one fouled off and the Lefty with the 01 in the air out to Center Edmond in position and there's one down yandi Diaz now the first Bas number two [Music] yandi and it's fou away one down base is empty that one lifted to left Hernandez ranging after it two [Applause] down Brandon La next to H for the Rays second Brandon La immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed [Applause] hitter swing and a pop off in foul ground Hernandez squeezes it and that'll do [Applause] it and welcome back to the ballpark here's M to hit the desicated M Bradley back to work right through there for a [Applause] strike and that one fouled off [Applause] and there's the ball fast way out of the Zone I think he's trying to speed him up got to stay back off speed's probably coming cold strike three on the fast ball and that ran back over the inner half now it's m BS he's kind of an outlier especially when guys are consciously sacrificing contact to deliver power pitch misses and that's ball one yeah his swing is so good it's in the zone a long time he gets the barrel to it a lot and that produces more base hits breaking ball through there for a strike when you look at the elite teams in a game right now there is going to be the slug no question about it but the really good offensive teams combined slug with more contact with less swing and Miss over to Diaz and that quickly two away Freeman Freeman in the box now no balls in a [Applause] strike that one to First Diaz takes it himself and it's a one two3 inning back here at Chavez Ravine and now the DH Junior cero J they're swinging too early or too late that's a timing problem they need to guess right on a few of those pitches and I mean make an educated [Applause] guess outside and it's one and one this pcture has done a good job of disrupting The Hitter timing with the mix of pitches and changing speeds you want to keep that front H inconsistent for the batter their swings are hesitent and that's exactly what you want on the M pitch misses ball two [Applause] one gone here and next will be the clean up hereit Christopher Morell he's already home in this game pass ball for a strike and [Applause] one swinging a foul straight [Applause] back a dive he's got it on to the pitcher and very nicely done for the out now so next to the plate for Tampa Bay Josh low taken high in the draft he's had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform but at some point that starts to go away and got to produce at the big league level and a good fast to start him off that's strike one and a [Applause] strike and he can't make the play no he's safe Johnny DeLuca next to hit for the Rays he might want to steal second in this spot but he's dealing with a catcher that has one of the best best pop times in the game he needs to pick his spot very wisely puts it in the air out towards left Center Hernandez settles underneath it drops into the glove and that is that we're back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh Ryan pepio these are the spots where levers really make a name for themselves late and close there's not much margin for error but at the same time time there's a reason they're putting these situations and nowcar Hernandez and that drops in for a [Applause] strike looking to get the tying run on base one ball two strike that misses and that's ball [Applause] two and that's outside got him swinging he chased the change up one Away Big Time Out leading off the home seven Will Smith steps to the plate for the Dodgers there Z for two with a pair of strikeouts inside almost got him straighten him up a little [Applause] bit that's a strike one down base is empty in the air right side DeLuca drifts towards it hauls it in for the out Tommy Edmond at the plate one for two Tomy Ed first pitch just [Applause] misses now Fly ball to Right Center sizes this one up he's got it and that is out number three we go to the eigh and now the center fielder Jose Siri J [Applause] Kershaw back to work right through there for a [Applause] strike and a pitch ground ball Freddy Freeman and he handles it himself for the out here's the catcher that one misses and it's w too swing and a ball popped up Freeman settles under this one calls it in two away that was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate had pretty good timing on it just got underneath a little bit and popped it up walls in the Box here lets that one go for a [Applause] ball strike on the outside and the count is one and one two down noan and a foul [Applause] ball here's a one-w bounce to third whips it to first on the Run Rays retired in order new arm out of the bullpen Garr clevinger coming on the Facey here and he's been fantastic against him this year his numbers in those matchups are very good well one Miguel Roos steps to the plate for the Dodgers Ro as the Lefty gets to [Applause] work line and that's a base hit off to a good start with a leadoff down well that started and ended pretty quickly no messing around right there just a solid swing right there it out it into the outfield for the base hit those always feel great now at the plate Gavin Lux that's in there o and [Applause] one right through there for a strike holding on to a one-run lead here the bottom half of the eighth inning to short could be two over to LA to Diaz that's two here's K Hernandez well almost anytime you roll over and send a two ball to at this level you can pretty much count on a double play middle infielders are just so reliable and they work on these plays all the time so it almost becomes like second nature next pitch is outside last couple of pitches breaking balls away I think he's going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count comes up empty that's strike two he has a tendency to chase out of the zone and that slider that's down that's one of his money pitches to get that swing and Miss way inside and that hit him he had two strikes on him and he hit him back to the top of the lineup here's Max Muny that funky Muny one for [Applause] three that's in there and that is strike one typically The Outfield defense will play a little bit deeper just to keep the ball in front make sure that runner on first doesn't come all the way around to score and tie this ball game up Hernandez off of first with two away just missed if he's able to connect on that look out and he deals swing and a miss struck him out back here in LA and now yandi Diaz yandi and a pitch swinging a Miss as he was outside corner going one I mean his pitch efficiency ability to get ahead and count at times pitch to contact like the defense work behind him that's why he's still in the game here in the ninth inning it takes low for ball one you just don't see it that much anymore di he swung over top of the curveball back now and on the mound the closer Archie Jacob a chance at his first save of the Year number eight Arie Jacob well Run game and now it's Mookie Betts right the pitch this is a real tough place for visiting teams to come in and close out ball games for a win and ball [Applause] one and fouled [Applause] off one-run game bottom nine that ball is foul and the pressure is building chases in the dirt slider there throw the first gets him one away on the drop third strike Freddy Freeman steps to the pl for the Dodgers known for his late inning heroics fall off foul trying to close out a one-run lead we're in the last half of the ninth inning ground ball the middle that's a base hit just a clutch it bat right there big time swing when this team really needed it just kept it with the middle of the infield and took it back for aame and there's just no one there to knock it down Fernandez the next to hit takes ball one and that one is inside play umpires trying to tighten things up a little [Applause] bit that and that's ball three what a lay off that pitch down let's see if he gives him anything to hit here on this count Runner not known for a speed but I think you got to put him in motion try to avoid a double play here boo he walked him and and that will keep things going walks out of the bull pin can absolutely kill your momentum very quickly with some water trying to protect this lead well comfortable or not these are the situations closers they seem to live for when you get into some hot water a jam tough spot whatever you want to call it but this is where they earn their keep next offering is in for a strike swing and a miss one ball he knows they don't want to give him anything to hit but when you've got opportunities to drive in runs you've got to expand the Zone he's capable of going out there and doing damage with it and that's a fair ball they'll throw to third in there he's safe in comes the run from second it's 22 well done Drive Kevin Kelly gets the ball now has been excellent against left-handed hitters this year and that's his first test this looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the [Applause] matchup Runners at the corners here one away digging in Tommy Edmond first offering and a just misses B one no fight trying to keep this a two two game near the last half of inning number nine and now it's even [Applause] up that one Rip but foul I think ultimately you want to tie him up get the ball in on the plate so that he can't get the barrel to it and hit it to the Outfield next pitch is outside [Applause] two on one out and that one hit to first flips it that's one in comes the winning run and the Dodgers walk it off and Win It 32 well you coming to the ninth inning down first you're looking to tie it they did that but then they got the extra to put themselves on top these players knew exactly what it
