Creighton Volleyball press conference after loss to No. 5 Nebraska

coach then we'll go to questions for anybody uh congrats to Nebraska on the win um I thought we played some good volleyball and some ugly volleyball um we're disappointed that we didn't pull the match out I thought we showed some great fight in set three um you know I told him beforehand uh this is one match of many that we're going to play over the next couple weeks that are going to be good good teams uh res opportunities and we're disappointed that we didn't seize that opportunity tonight questions what do you think went sideways in one and two that just allowed Nebraska to kind of take over um I don't know we talked a lot about it going into this game that we didn't have to do anything special we just had to be us in order to be successful and I think we got away from that a little bit I think we weren't going after it as much as we know that we can and so to be able to turn it around and three and four especially really showed a lot of resilience I think what changed in three for did you did you guys change anything or was it just getting back to as you kind of said doing what you guys do yeah um I mean we talked about a lot of stuff in between two and three just our mindset and a lot of it and going after it um I forgot what I was just going to say Norah's done that uh her entire career especially in the last two weeks um she carries a lot of load for us uh she's big in big moments and um you know she did that again today pearon out of the media timeout in three you guys kind of gave up some points that you guys don't really you know that's kind of unacceptable to give up I guess for you guys what what changed late in the set when when you're Bas against the wall that it was just really hard for the grass the ball all of a sudden yeah I think some of those points if I recall I think we let a tip drop in the donut um I'm trying I Matt I'm trying to remember what the points were you know some of them were I remember one that was a misq a kid didn't go for a ball that was clearly hers but we also had some that uh I think they knew who the ball was supposed to go to but people were being really aggressive in the moment and so you know I I don't want to knock that within reason we just kind of said hey reminder who's who's responsible for those balls um what we had in the end of set three is what we needed to bring at the beginning of set five and I thought you know we just kind of took you know maybe we uh kind of went back on our heels as compared to we were the aggressor and three and four and um but what a great learning opportunity for our team and you know I just said to Nora like we're two weeks in a season you know I want them to be pissed we're going to play a lot of good teams they should be mad um but they also played arguably one of the best teams in the country a team that returns everyone who was in the national championship last year and we're mad okay so we're going to get some opportunities we play you know you and I rice and then we get Louisville which is going to be a top five team how are we going to respond fond you know so just as I tell them they can enjoy a win for about 15 minutes they can wallow in this loss for about 15 minutes and then we got to go get better or after missing last year's match where the mean to you tonight to share the moment with Lindsay beforehand and then be able to compete at this level um yeah it was obviously hard last year but um I mean I love this team I love competing with them and to do it in an environment like this was really really special and yeah to play Lindsay is always fun special to play against her did you know if she was going to give you that yeah she she told me otherwise I wouldn't have been ready for it in uh in three and four particular end game especially in three you know you and AA were incredibly efficient and Nebraska was attacking you was first contacts to like how did you how did you guys stay so efficient so error free in those moments when Nebraska was trying to make you handle the first and third yeah definitely just leaning on our teammates I think I mean there's a lot lot of load that gets put on outside sometimes depending on the game and we had a lot of load in that situation but our teammates were backing us up and obviously telling us you know to rip balls to put Kendra on the net when we were passing and I don't know I think we were just leaning a lot on our teammates and people were taking that load off too Elise was getting involved Kendra was getting involved people are digging the crap out of the ball like I it's definitely a team effort and yeah what allowed you guys to be so dominant in in the fourth set well I thought you know other than I thought Nebraska played well for four sets they did not play well they you know we were clean um which was one thing that we talked about when a team is spiraling a little bit make them earn their way out um and they they obviously just were not they were making errors during that set I thought they were good in the other four I mean set three obviously was a battle I thought they played well there um but set four things got ugly for them two more nor how how challenging is it to is it going to be to to stop being pissed off in time to get ready for the nor Iowa um I mean I think we're all disappointed but not disappointed in our team I'm really really proud of our team and the resilience that the resiliency that we showed and the fact that we showed that we can fight with any top team in the country I think that that's only going to keep us going forward um but yeah bus ride home hopefully we'll turn switch and get back at it and practice tomorrow how big was the momentum I think you were 4 and0 on challenges that last we may have thrown away how big was that the momentum to keep your team in it and keep getting those points back from your side Nora did not think there was a touch on that one in the fifth um this Booth kill that's what I said Booth kill uh no I mean the thing that with our challenges I trust the team I mean all other than that one I think they were all dictated by the team I mean so you know and we felt they called one uh that Nebraska got one in their favor that I want to go watch it because Elise said I did not touch that ball and I mean that's the great thing about challenge is the players are honest at this point thank you coach
