[Music] [Music] hello and welcome to the southbound Sports show I'm your host Richie Le here with my co-host MADD B and boy do we have a big show this week NFL is wrapping up we just had our fantasy draft did a little bit earli this year I think I think we typically do it around um Labor Day so it's a little bit weird that we did it right before they made rostered Cuts but honestly I don't think that really impacts much um I did notice that some backup quarterbacks got moved around which I thought was odd I thought Sean Clifford played well as backup for Jordan love with the Packers but then they ended up trading for Malik Willis and which that kind of surprised me because you tell people like Hey we're going to have backup quarterbacks like battle it out to see who the backup is and they're like psych we're gonna trade for Malik Wells and um I'm surprised like that he was even available to be honest because I feel like he never really had a shot either wasn't he with Tennessee and they have will Lis yeah and they went with him and then it was like he was there for a real brief glimmer and it was like nope Ryan tanah Hill's good enough and then we're just going to go right to Willis and I didn't even think that uh will Levis was like that solid of a standout because when we were doing our draft we did a a lot of people we were we were trying to figure out if that was who they were going to be the starting quarterback like a lot of people didn't even have a consensus on oh yeah don't you remember that guy was like really good or remember all these plays that stood out it's like no and I think they got Calvin Ridley like that's a team that I was like I'm not touching at all so um I did we did our draft we do auction style and it was funny because um you can put in your bid and every year someone Pops in a super high bid and someone else clicks on it and has to ruin their draft and it made me laugh I'm like sitting here typing in all my bids as manual because I'm like there's no way I'm falling for that this year getting stuck with a $70 bid for someone I think it was like cook maybe went super high yeah James Cook and I was like you never even know how Buffalo is going to be so that's going to be a tough bid um I waited this year probably because I I had my Keeper at Breeze Hall and I probably should have went high on another running back uh I felt like I'm playing with house money CU I won the last two championships so I really didn't care that much this year I know that's weird weird to say right um so I kind of just F filled it out got a couple guys like George KD back because I'm pretty sure the Niners are going to trade auk and so I figured KD's going to pick that slack up um I didn't want I tried to get guys from you because I knew you had Kyler Murray so I ended up with the Cardinals tight end because I didn't want you to have that uh double Banger going on Dick bag I got him and Marvin Harrison Junior made sure you didn't get that combo why do I like the Cardinals no um I I had my plan I was laying it out on the call and everyone was I thought everyone was out of money and then of course I tried to get Tua as my backup QB because I had Richardson and then guys on the call of course take him from me knowing that I have no money left either like a bunch of jerks but I figured that's prob that's probably better for me because I hate being in a scenario where I have two quarterbacks that are probably upper like a level where they're both scoring high and I don't know who to play I think now I have him and I got Trevor lawrenson which Trevor Lawrence isn't going to be my top guy if Richardson busts then I'll probably a bust in the quarterback position but there are a lot of guys like that are going to be starting that weren't even drafted because I don't even think mchu was drafted I almost went with Caleb Williams I got I actually went with a lot of rookies um um as a joke I was uh making sure I got Xavier worthy so I spent all my money on him not because I think he's going to have a great year just because Michigan should have had him at wide receiver I wasn't gonna let someone else take him away from me I I did draft Tom Brady again because that really brought me the championship last year having Tom on my team to provide leadership for my guys so the funniest thing would be if Tom Brady comes back to play for the Raiders and I just randomly have him already and leads me to another championship um but how do you think your draft went it went okay it didn't go quite the way that I had initially planned it for it because we I had my varsity football meeting and it and it ran till almost till pretty close to noon and then because of a sale for my daughter's cheerleading team there was Subs that we had to deliver well not we my wife was delivering the majority of them and she's like we still have the ones for your parents so we went up to my mom and dad's and just ended up being there eating lunch and just hanging out and as it got closer to the time I was like I I wanted to be at the house for the draft but the kids were playing and it just time got away from us so it ended up being being where I logged in off of my phone initially to get into the draft and this is where my first mistake happened because my my fantasy account through ESPN is through my verizon.net email account oh wow I've had it for so long that then when I was trying to log in off of my laptop or off of my iPad it was trying to say I needed to have this verification code for my verizon.net email I had no idea even how to access that email account so then I was like I had to do most of the draft through my phone and I kept I was having a hard time finding off the mobile app who I had already drafted so like I lost track at one point of who do I already have and what do I need to do so I ended up with more receivers than I would have liked and I and I missed out on a couple players that that I would have liked to have saved money to have more of a bid on because I mapped it out that there were a couple that I was I was like I want to have these guys like I thought having morvin Harrison would be good but I also wasn't going to spend what you ended up paying for him like trying to balance that out see I figured 30 bucks whatever I didn't I didn't have high cuz I had Bree for 15 my well by but by the time he was on the board I had already spent so much on stupid people that I I was like ah crap I I I I spent myself short because what I what I've done in years past is I felt like I need to save money towards the end and then I end up spending like more money on guys that aren't really even that good that's what I did just like just because I have and then I'm kicking myself because I'm like I spent $25 on this random tight end that I didn't really have any interest in when I could have just put that towards you know an actual legit running back or a legit receiver that would actually score points week in and week out that's where I kind of wanted Kelsey because he's so much better than the other tight ends but then the bidding got out of control on me cuz uh the Taylor Swift thing Le and I'm like telling him like yo quit bidding on my guy and then he's like I have to get him I have to get him so so I have something to talk about with the family and I'm like all right take him I won't stand in between you and your family take take them uh you can talk about Taylor Swift cheer for your guy all year and that's why I ended up with KD because I'm like I don't trust any of these tight ends and I figured maybe it's just confidence or I don't know I just feel like I can make I'm confident that I can make roster pickups to help me win at the end of the year because I had people on the call complaining saying that I'm not even good at Fantasy that I just get lucky at the end of the year and I told him like that's CU I I'm not afraid to like just cut dudes if they're not performing and I feel like a lot of people get afraid to do that because maybe they get attached like I spent $60 to draft this fool and I'm cutting him like I don't care and I've been able to pick up a good running back and let's be real not because random running backs just show up it's just because of injuries like oh so and so gets injured all right here I picked up so and so for seven bucks and then oh I could keep him for that like breeze Hall was injured I only add him for 15 people weren't sure if he's coming back from that ACL and then he was awesome at the end of the year cuz he didn't play I think at the beginning of the year and that's I was saying like I'll pick up chub like I don't care he comes back and then of course he got drafted because I was talking about him during the during the draft but you never know posting videos of working out like that's my thing David Johnson jumping out of the pool chub squatting 600 pounds like all right I'll take a gamble but that's where I figured I just throw bodies at it I know I got decent QBs most likely if I need to there's some rookies out there that's why I figured I could go with a Richardson Caleb Williams I'm just worried that no matter what happens if my guy gets injured I'm not really I don't want to be screwed because that's where um and I feel like that's that's really a a deciding factor in our league is that when you look at the way that the season progresses if you can if you can get pick up one or two starters like legit Point bearing starters because of injury and you clear them on waivers that's a deciding factor and that's where I just got three running backs that were starters like that was my focus and if I paid 20 bucks a piece at the end of the draft like that's fine I just needed them to be clear starter some guys like the Lions Gibbs yeah but then they have I think it's Montgomery right or someone so yeah there's a two-headed monster you might get points you might not Broncos like one guy that should be the guy I took a gamble on him like let's see what happens like Bree Hall should be the guy if he gets hurt or something then I could probably pick up his backup yeah I might have to spend a ton of money but then in the same situation if my guys don't pan out because I think I got a guy from the Redskins too or I guess not the Redskins commanders I'll get in trouble they um I was just looking to see who was getting the most like percent percentage and that's kind of where I I I think that puts me ahead is I kind of don't look at the names after a certain point in the year I kind of just look at the numbers who's in for a certain percentage of snaps right it's kind of early in the draft where you can just take a flyer on a couple of guys but then you have to like don't be afraid to cut them yeah there's going to be times where you cut a guy and then he goes off but that's part of the game right there's been times where I've cut someone and then I see him scoring like 40 points in the playoffs and I'm like should have been for me homie like Devonte Adams would be one of those guys constantly making drops get rid of him and then he goes on to have a hell of a career and someone picks him up for cheap and using their keeper on him for a while and it's like okay whatever like if I would have just been a little bit more patient but at some point you got to make the cuts because if you don't make the playoffs then you can't do anything and then once playoff comes then I'm even more aggressive cuz they were saying people are saying that I don't I get lucky in the playoffs I only win when the other teams don't score but I I was one of I think I might have been the highest playoff scorer last year because I wasn't afraid to like yo Eckler you're done buddy I'm not I'm not playing you you're if you're sucking you're done I don't care if you're my number one guy I'll play some other random I think it was like zamir white or something like I'll make that switch if I have to and I think that's what the difference is too is like there's so many people by the end of the year that are that are on waivers that are that have like the IR injury L like designations it's like that's a great time when the playoffs hit when most of the people are like H I'm not in it I don't care anymore that it's like let's see who can I add for a dollar and then I have keeper for next year I know that's what you got to kind of look out for that's where I look for that but then sometimes you don't know like you can get a guy like I had deshun Watson in that scenario and then eventually I didn't even end up keeping him because I thought there's no way I can risk losing like I think it was Eckler won me the championship two years ago and I thought I have to keep Eckler for 30 like he he's valued at like 55 or something crazy and then this year it was like all right I could keep Eckler with the Redskins and then um I don't think he's going to play much so I drafted the other Redskins guy instead um and so that's kind of that was my third down back Choice cuz I'm thinking Eckler was really dying at the end of the year I I'm pretty sure he's not going to finish the year as like the number one guy so as my taking a flyer on a guy I went with his backup right why not if I'm confident that he's not going to be good then I can get his backup for cheap right pop him in and hopefully goes off at least that was that was my strategy for people looking for strategy in their league um let's see um what else are I gonna say anything else you want to talk about with with the fantasy draft um anyone you think that people should draft that's going to be like uh a sleeper pick the one that the one that I really wanted and there ended up being I end up getting distracted when it happened uh I I feel like Cedric Benson was one that I wanted to to pick late and I knew that because James Conor was the was the primary carrier for Arizona I thought he would be a good one to to pick up late that for a dollar it's not going to hurt anything Connor is going to get hurt at some point and he's going to take on a huge carry knowing that in the early part Kyler Murray was is my quarterback because I kept him for a dollar that I thought if I can't get Harrison I can't get the tight end who are going to be projecting more yardage at least having one of those players would have been a good good match and the afternoon got away from me and when when I went to put like there were two picks that I had late that I was trying to change who they had designated for me me and I couldn't get it changed it was just like this is this is who you have now I'm like oh great thanks that one was probably my bad uh because the when whenever you nominated him the guy that dropped the Connor was like yo who who even is this guy and I'm like you drafted Connor you don't think he's going to get hurt I'm like that's probably a good pick like I would I was plan on picking him up for like having him in my pocket for free agency right because I purp I purposefully say saved money towards the end of the draft that like if somebody else nominated him I at least wanted to have two or three do that I could Max bid on it just to make sure that that I would have him and then I oh crap like that's why he started bidding because he had money and he was like you know what you're right why why am I going to save the money and then not even have a chance at free agency if Connor goes down I'm like yeah you don't know what Connor's going to do like at least get the rookie that's why like I said I I cut Eckler with his back up and for a third down like thing like that's a good chance you're not going to get another first like you're not going to get another lead back you almost have to take a guy that you think is going to be in on third Downs anyway now did we vote on the extra Flex or was that something ESPN added do we have it it should be the same as last year I don't think I changed anything is it two Flex or is it three well there's two flex but I thought we only had one no we had two when we changed the PPR I think because people were complaining that they couldn't have I think it's two wide receivers right in a tight end and so if a player and two running backs that way the we switched from three wide receivers to two flexes like whenever it was like two second or third year when we went to PPR I think um because I did check because then I got a notification that it was like yo ESPN or someone wrote an article they had the headline wrong and it was like hey by weeks through week 15 and I was like are you serious week 15 I have to change our schedule so I was like panicked after the draft and I went in and I'm like you idiot you wrote that in the headline and then you listed all the by weeks out and you stopped at week 14 how was that through week 15 like what are you talking about so it should be our regular season runs up through the end of the year and then it caps like a week early because like you know they're always sitting people that's where I ran into trouble a couple years ago with Derrik Henry it's like is he going to play is he going to rest he came in there're like he's going to play and I I think I played him and I won in spite of him and they only gave him like one carry and then they benched him and I was like I knew I should never have played you so I I hate to do that for people because that's where it looks like people it looks like teams choke but in reality it's because your your team that you're playing most likely has a bunch of guys that are from playoff teams and then they get rested so then the championship game is usually lower scoring because everyone doesn't know like their guys are only going to play for like the first half or something and so it's kind of BS the way like the works but that's ESPN has the or not ESPN NFL has the by weeks go so late when they really don't have to do that and then we could end the fantasy early and not have to worry about people getting s to heal um but yeah the flex was a thing because I think the first year you only had one flex and people were complaining that they some people had like three running backs and three tight ends and they wanted just more flexibility against wide receivers which I understand now not so many people run two tight ends I don't think or three running backs although some people draft like six running backs and I'm like okay go for it they're like this is the only way you can win and then meanwhile I look at their championship history it's like none like is that the only way you can win cuz I don't do that like I think I would know how to win the league guys just got to get lucky and he got to got to be don't be afraid to cut your favorite guy you can still wear their Jersey as you're uh crying celebrating with uh your championship rings now I flew in the face of everything that we've ever talked about over the last couple years when I was doing my draft I was I was looking at some of the players and I was like you know what who do I watch on Sunday and I thought back to when we when we were in North Carolina together and we were like here's these two random teams that we have no interest in how do I make how do I make this more oh I'll bet on it so then I thought for years how do I make who am I watching on Sunday who's my local team clearly it's the Steelers I was surprised you got so many Steelers I was thinking like are you are you drunk because like why are you drafting so many Steelers so my my mindset with it was I know that I'm going to be watching more Steelers games and I hat it in the past where I'd have to be playing against na Harris or the defense and be like please give up more touchdowns because all it did was just piss me off more because on one hand if I win in fantasy then we go into the following week on our show here and it's like well they blew another lead but personally I'm like yeah good for you you threw another interception it help me win so I thought I just want to I want to just serve both of my interests I want to watch the Steelers I want them to do well and I want to win in fantasy so I'm just going to take them and I'm just going to roll the dice cuz I feel like Pickins has a potential for boom Harris has been a thousand yard rush the last couple years and he's going to get his carries with with Arthur Smith and and I thought as far as as much as the defense generates turnovers and different things like it can't be terrible I could be wrong but worst case he spent like 13 bucks though bro or something I don't even know what it was I nominated that first because I figured I might got to get some of these D's out that I don't want well and and that's normally like I see it I'm like nope not falling for the bait and and I started bidding and then it hit a point where I'm like well I'm already this far in might as well just might as well just go with it see defense to me is one thing that you can easily easily make up points with every week I mean I I think most leagues like have a waiver wire or whatever you could like a gble though you can stack your things but yeah but if you know for a fact that yo Sam darnold is a quarterback for the Vikings like who are they playing then you like all right I'll pick against them there might be one week where he has a good game but you know he's not a good quarterback and so you can pick and that's kind of where I find the team it takes a couple weeks I'll admit cuz like I picked the Lions D and I thought for a dollar I'm not spending more than that I there's a good chance I'll probably cut them at some point because like the one year I found the the Eagles D and they were just getting turnover after turnover and they end up being like the highest scoring D and I picked them up like week seven or something and I thought like are people not looking at the points like how is no one bidding against me for the Eagles I spend like $10 and I'm like I could I could have spent a dollar here but I'm thinking that other people are going to bid and same with too I drafted Jake Moody cuz I figured the ners are going to be on TV that's kind of why I bid high for worthy too cuz the Chiefs are always on TV and so I'm stuck watching them right because I'm gonna watch the game no matter who's on and now that gives me a couple guys to cheer for like last year I had KD now I have moody and KD unless I cut Moody because someone else is better and available I have worthy cheer for him maybe I'll watch the Cardinals now because I have Marvin Harrison Jr and McBride even I might not play McBride because I have I I got one Packer I got Reed which I know from watching the offense everyone was saying like oh you should have got Watson instead and I thought Watson is a deep threat but they don't use him as much elsewhere like he doesn't get as many touches and in PPR sometimes it's better just to have a guy getting consistently thrown to like seven times a game then having a boomer bust where it's like oh you scored two touchdowns the next week is like zero because he dropped two of them you know I I like consistency especially in PPR get a third down back that doesn't even have any carries like the one year I think it had Stevenson they're just like third Downing him and he was getting like consistently like 15 points a week and I I didn't even know who he was to be honest right I pick him up and free agency because I see that they're throwing him the ball but his rushing yards like 20 a game and I'm like all right what am I doing here but you got to do what you got to do man but I did I did do that this year too get some guys for teams that I'm going to watch I'm gonna watch Packers I couldn't get any Panthers dude the Panthers have looked so bad in preseason again that I thought oh my gosh I can't every time someone nominated someone I just couldn't do it well that was that was just it I was like oh I have I have hubard is my running back like that's awesome I have no interest in him yeah so I I look around because that that'll be something I pick up because there are a couple guys in free agency right now that I was like close on nominating as an end draft pick and then I thought I could pick him up later people don't know these guys like um Patrick got picked up by the Lions so if anyone needs a wide receiver in fre like the free agent wire that will probably be a good pickup that you could probably pick up for a dollar now in a good high powerered offense should be anyway the lions that if he's going to be the guy getting the checkdowns like go for it see what happens I think it was Patrick right is that who they picked up today that's where um watching the cuts there were a lot of guys that I I was surprised that like a lot of the undrafted guys from Michigan on defense I'm pretty sure all of them got made the made the roster which is surprising like I I saw McGregor made the the Jets he was a defensive end that one game he had like two or three sacks and they were like no the Jets are loaded there's no way they're going to keep them and I thought do you do you risk it if he's that dominant in preseason pass rushing preseason is usually something that you're either good at or you're not right it's not like oh he just had a good preseason cuz he's playing against scrubs it's like you can't really teach a pass rush the guy either has it or he doesn't and the Jets felt the same way I guess but I don't think there were any like real cuts that really stood out to me as like oh my gosh can't believe it it was more like a lot of vets that you know are just floating around that probably should have been cut a while ago what do you think yeah I kind of feel like there there's a couple people that I would definitely want to take over flyer on that are on our waiver wire right now but I don't want to go too crazy because you still want to be able to save some of that money for like that midseason push where a a big time starter goes down and you know there's going to be like a high demand for the backup yeah right now what do we have uh the Seahawks D is available they play Denver Denver has a new rookie quarterback right are they going to play bone Knicks that's probably worth a pickup right don't bid on him bro if I'm telling you [Music] this I'm just saying that I might bid on him no because I got the black and yellow oh yeah you can't you can't pick up a new defense though because you're stuck I can uh drop my man TB pick up a new defense and I'll be ready to go like I took some guys like doson from the Eagles cuz like he's going to be the third down guy or the third wide receiver and I'm like are they going to actually use him right now he's not projected to get much playing time but that's someone like I might hold on to because if he takes off having two other weapons like wasn't it like the Raiders last year they kept hitting like Meyer like Myers he had like 10 catches a game they were just he was like open because like they were doubling like Devonte Adams right so maybe doson could fill that rule that's kind of what I got Nico call for the same thing they brought in who did they bring in down there um with Houston I forget they had they have three they have like so many weapons now that it was like oh someone was saying oh you should get their third wide receiver I'm like no I'd rather have Nico's big and if they can't double him I'm hoping that he picks up production maybe it doesn't pay off for me but he was already scoring like seven touchdowns last year so that's in fantasy that's like you have a 50% chance of him scoring a touchdown I like that that's kind of what I want to see right as long as one or two of my receivers get a touchdown a week I should have a good week but my running backs have to show up and who knows we'll see um we'll follow back up and I maybe I'll go throw more my roster and if I end up making any moves I don't want to give them away in case people listen especially ones that are making fun of me during the draft they not KN what I'm doing giving away too many too much Intel even though I have the Top Gun hat behind me anything else you want to talk about with the NFL no all right you want to go first we had we finally had football come back and uh Florida State play George Tech how do you feel after that game I guess it's it's it's a frustrating feel because I knew the game was on but it simultaneously our flag team had a game so I I didn't have an opportunity to sit and watch it live and I caught the halftime score I caught the tail end of the game I I saw the the field goal by Georgia Tech to win it it was like well here we go and I was frustrated at first and it just I couldn't bring myself to be like what the hell happened in this game and I finally because I knew we were going to be talking about it tonight was like I I got to just at least at least suffer through half of it and just see what the hell's going on because I saw post on X I saw some different things that were that other people were commenting on and I felt like I just need to see it for myself and I mean overall with the first half the offense didn't look terrible like I was anti anticipating there to be a lot of a lot more I should say of Miss of drops missed opportunities like that was always something that that their offense had that norvel does a really good job of scheming for teams and providing opportunities to score where it's always fallen short is it's like overthrow receiver drop a drop a pass in the flat that's wide open um not converting Downs like those were things that that typically have bitten them but I felt like to to walk away with the first half with two huge field goals um they rolled the dice on the two-point conversion early on like I felt like they they did they were playing aggressive enough to win but I felt like the defense just didn't show up and I had issues with it in the past because I felt like when norvel first took over the issue that I had was I felt like at times they weren't aligning correctly and if if you can't that's a huge chunk of your defense if you can't just align to the formations correctly and be in a position to take things away it's really hard to be consistent and get your team off the field and the tackling from the linebackers was atrocious there were so many plays where they're just running Zone up the middle and the whether it's the quarterback or the the running back just goes barreling down the field untouched for 10 15 yards was like what the hell are you doing and I and I try not to to overly get in the weeds with it because I know that it's hard at the Collegiate level to make those changes but I feel like when we're looking at the other positions as we've as we've gone along that they've developed running backs they've developed defensive ends they've developed defensive tackles the secondary's been really strong you know all the other positions that were that were really deficits when Norville took over have have really started to improve more I mean even at receiver they've had more development linebackers just been a spot where they've just they've really struggled and it was a concern in the early part of this spring thinking if they don't get guys from the portal if they don't develop it this is going to be a glaring weakness and it it was definitely exploited now how much of that is now focused going into this this week is is to be determined but I feel like that that needs to be resolved ASAP or else it's going to cost people their jobs now longterm Florida State I think that if you win the rest of your games and you're competitive in the ACC Championship game maybe this is just water under the bridge like I don't want to throw I don't I don't want to underestimate Georgia Tech because it's a week zero overseas game that they could end up being a team that we have to face again for the ACC Championship if they if they continue to play at a level that they are I mean it's very plausible that that happens and if we have to play him for the ACC Championship at that point it becomes if your only losses to the other team that was representing the ACC now you're still in that conversation for the the playoffs if if they completely lay an egg and drop five six games that's going to be a really glaring loss at the end of the year unless you went out and win the championship that's where I want to see I know I was joking with you last week because I knew Georgia Tech last year started to turn a corner they almost beat Georgia they had him on the ropes and then of course Georgia went on to crush Florida state in the bow game but Georgia Tech to me I thought this is the year where they could upset Florida State going into the game and they should take a stride like they should they need to take the next step and actually be competitive in the ACC where we see teams like kind of get up they're sort of like a Ruckers right now in terms of talent and like hype right now Ruckers schedule so easy this year that if they don't win eight games there's they're never never going to get to that point in the big the new Big 10 really and so Georgia Tech right now the way it works they're still an automatic bid for the ACC so Florida State could just win out have to play Georgia Tech in a in a rematch that's the only thing right now that's kind of rough there's going to be an unbalanced schedule so Florida state that could end up being an elimination game just because they get one loss to Georgia Tech and then you end up with two undefeated teams that don't have to play Florida State you know you never like I don't know how all the schedule scenarios but I saw that that was a distinct possibility and then someone was saying like would a one loss non championship game Florida State get in at large I would think they would but I've seen a lot of models now automatically as soon as that game was over update to include five SEC teams and if they can get four big 10 teams five SEC teams and like that's pretty much the field right you get Liberty I think is what they've been putting in as the automatic bid and then that's it it's like okay well that's weird if they try to go that route or they knock down one big 10 so you have five SEC three big 10 and Notre Dame and then that's kind of like the other ACC bid but still a lot of football to be played my only concern for Florida State like I'm not really sold on Norville this is a year where he needs to take his program to like a Dabo level right you you have a great year you go undefeated you don't show up in the Bull game there's some culture issues where people just opt out and it seems like is there's a lot of controversy just around the way that they've built the team I think that's where I see a lot of the most like comments from other teams fans it's like see we knew they wouldn't have they'd have culture issues after they got killed by Georgia and they bring in 17 transfer portal Gaza or whatever and maybe that's true I don't know but that's where that too like if for for all the people that are knocking the culture a lot of those guys it wasn't like they opted out of the bll game and then they got drafted in the seventh round or went undrafted like we're talking first round guys so like you went undefeated like this and this is the thing that like nobody wants to acknowledge you had an undefeated conference champ champion from from a power five that was left out that would never ever happen in any other conference Michigan wasn't it like Michigan was an undefeated conference champ there was no talk of well maybe we should leave them out because they run the ball all the time and McCarthy's completion percentage is Sub sub 50% it was their conference champ straight in Washington like well they really didn't play anyone all year undefeated conference champ they they are an automatic in the only thing that should have been in the discussion is is it Alabama is it Georgia or is a Texas for the fourth spot should have been the discussion not well Jordan Travis got hurt like that's a [ __ ] thing and a lot of those guys that when they were snubbed were just like you know what screw it we'll focus on the NFL and if if that was the culture and they didn't care you're not going to get anyone else from the portal because why if you're risking your future Financial stock you're going to want to go to a place that's going to develop you so like to have the the number of guys that transferred in I I think shows their ability to make those connections and have that rapport with players that they want to come in um I I personally from a coaching standpoint feel like the biggest amount of growth that you see is from week one to week two of now that you're in the season how are you going to grow how do you handle stuff if they completely lay an egg I mean may maybe there are some red flags that are raised right away but I feel like you clean stuff up you you have more of an understanding of what your depth chart looks like how you're going about things maybe it becomes a little bit more settled with playing your home games and your road games and like you're you're at your home facility as opposed to all the other variables that were in effect playing overseas even though that that was to me I think it was a positive experience um having the ability to take them overseas it's probably a long flight home uncomfortable and they have to do team building on that ride home though so I wouldn't be surprised if they ripped off a bunch of wins but my thing is nvll had a losing record at Florida State and now he needs to maintain I mean honestly Florida state in the ACC should be what Clemson's floor has been nine or 10 wins a year similar to what Harbaugh has had was at Michigan before their run like that should be the floor you shouldn't have a year where you're like five and seven when you have more Talent than most of the teams in the conference or whatever norval's first two years were at Florida State like I mean those first two years they they had paper mâché on the off offensive line I mean it was bad but I feel like they have they have a much stronger offensive line base and the thing that surprised me with with it was that the quarterback had a 70% completion rate for the entirety of the game so like he's leading the NCAA right now and he'll probably end up being within the top top 10 if not top five after this week's games play out of of national completion percentage I mean that's he's managing the game as best as you can ask for you have to be able to to have that completion percentage if you're going to win games and and stay in games over the course of the season but the defense just has to step up and get the pressure on the quarterback the bad news is that Florida state has to play their good friends Boston College that they almost lost to last year oh I know and that's that's always been a traditional Trap game but is it home I believe that's at home so that should be like to our advantage of actually being here instead of one of the weird bandana games that they just seem to not like playing in Boston College so with that game um let's look at some of the other big games this week um Clemson in Georgia who do you have in that one I I feel like the the tip goes to Georgia just because they're just reloading off of last year now Georgia should win I've seen a lot of people put High bids on Ohio State to win the national championship Georgia should win the championship this year on paper doesn't mean they're gonna do GNA be I feel like it's gonna be closer though than like it's not going to be Georgia blowing them out but it'll be be a closer matchup this one I think has a chance to to change the tide for Clemson right if they can keep it close when the AC get a couple playoff wins I think dabo's back in the good graces but a lot of their fan base because I live down in North Carolina so I see a lot and interact with a lot of Clemson fans they're not happy with the way dbo approaches nil and the transfer portal they see the success Florida state has they're very aware of it um I've had multip people tell like could you imagine if Coleman was on Clemson's team last year instead of Florida State like they had no one to throw the ball up to and so having that chance this year to kind of prove that you're right if they get blasted by Georgia and then go to another seven or eight win year don't play for an ACC Championship in a playoff spot as a clumsy fan you have to kind of say like what are we doing because you have the talent you had it it seems like it's kind of dropping off you talk about developing guys DJ dju when he left he he said he wasn't getting the development at Clemson so now now is a great chance to kind of see is Clemson developing internal guys or if they just get destroyed by Georgia at a nuner like they think they're the Big 10 or something like what's going to happen from there the other noon game Penn State it West Virginia do you think West Virginia can pull the upset I I honestly don't know I feel like West Virginia to me because I know a lot of West Virginia people too I have some family that went there they think that they're close to turning the corner but it's not the West Virginia of old like to me they're not doing anything Innovative like richrod was doing and when you don't have the same Talent that Penn State has I know they played him close last year you're at home if you want to make that that step up because that's where I'm at with West Virginia I want West Virginia to kind of be good because I don't want the big 12 to just kind of fizzle out I I honestly if the Big 12 is going to stay relevant I'd rather have it be West Virginia than say like a random Iowa State or Oklahoma state if I'm being honest I do like Mike Gandhi but let it be an East Coast random small school that then can just get back to like winning like they did heck they played Notre Dame for Notre Dame's last National Championship in like the 80s they're relent in the Big East a game away from pit from being in the national championship again crushing Georgia like where's that West Virginia that's what I want to come back because then that can kind of revitalize like pit and some of the ACC School to I don't think the ACC is going to last but if there's going to be a power three conference I would like West Virginia and some of those other schools that I grew up around Virginia Tech pit I would like them all to be back in the same kind of conference and I think West Virginia stepping up taking down Penn State I think Penn State fans would go insane because if you're Penn State you watch Michigan win the national championship you lose to West Virginia and then there's a good chance Ohio State wins a national championship you and your team is the only one with a a starting quarterback coming back this is your year I don't care what Penn State fans are saying about Ohio State reloading this was supposed to be Penn State's year last year was supposed to be Michigan's year they got it done check all the boxes Penn State there's no excuses I don't care what Ohio state did paying $20 million or whatever they're bragging about you have the starting quarterback coming back they're taking a guy from Kansas State as their as their starting quarterback I think that's who they declared as a starter there in no in no Galaxy if you would have told me oh hey Michigan starting a a transfer from Kansas state i' would be like oh crap right it's not g to be like a oh yeah great I'd rather them be like all right well like like that was last show have been like what happened to JJ right like what happened to the guys were developing all these five stars we bringing in can't get it done you're starting a three star from Kansas State instead and meanwhile Penn State's right there with their five-star QB the guy that was supposed to be the stud of college football quarterbacks that's development right penate are they gonna be home to two of the biggest um busts at quarterback Hackenberg and then allar because that is development to me right Matt yeah I mean you can't have two hyped up QBs how many how many things did we hear about AAR like two years ago and then it's like oh maybe he's not good it's like no maybe he's not getting developed like if Harbaugh would have stayed Michigan and Al had went there and followed JJ could you imagine the hype Michigan would be having right now all wouldn't have had any game plan he would have just been learned behind JJ stepping in right now maybe harball stays Michigan would have been the preseason number one with everyone they have back on defense like that's the unknown for Michigan and that's why with the new coaching staff I have no excitement like for this Fresno State game I want to see Michigan come out if they get upset or something it would be crazy but it's like with all the turnover they've had you don't know you hope that the culture is there but you don't know Penn State they have everything they have they were close last year there's no way they should lose they played at Ohio State last year I think they get him at home right let me look at their schedule to be sure because I know with the big teams they might have moved things around but I thought that Ohio state was flipping yeah they get Ohio State at home and that's their toughest game they only play two ranked teams the other one is going to USC and heck by October USC might not even be ranked you have one game Penn State one game don't lose to West Virginia to start the year off cuz that would just get everything spinning remember when they lost to pit and then they won the Big T and that they got killed by Michigan and they were like sorry boys we're going to have to take Ohio State in the playoffs like I could just see the Big 10 commissioner just asking for a recount like we want to give Ohio State the buy we don't want Penn State to have it and Penn State fans will be like well thanks for at least letting us play this year oh man let's see what other big games Miami and Florida do you even think that's a big game not really I mean the game that I really am looking for forward to more than anything is NDSU Colorado because you love um the Bison Dion the Bison because I feel like that's that's a game that could really catch Colorado off guard right off the smack because NDSU the they have a new coach this year um but they've been a program that has traditionally been power run football and competing for national championships at the subdivision level that it's not a it's not the Cakewalk that maybe Colorado expects it to be going in and I feel like oh they can't expect that to be a cakewalk doesn't NDSU have like a ton of championships yes I mean that's a bad matchup for anybody I wouldn't want Michigan blame that I saw I was like oh that's I mean even Dion joked about it was like I wish my ad would have would have booked somebody would have booked a cupcake first week yeah and they're playing that's a real that's a real legitimate Trap game the only thing though they're playing on a Thursday night on campus right when the kids are back in school I'd imagine and I think that makes it a a little bit of a difference maybe not we'll see if they can get the upset but I think having that Thursday night game against a team that kind of has hype this year they're not ranked which I thought they were Colorado maybe I have ESPN college football in my head too much but um that one I'm looking forward to North Carolina Minnesota that night too because these are the games where if the ACC wants to stay as a power four and not kind of just fall off into the Big 12 they need to start winning games like this like Minnesota is probably going to be like what a six- win big 10 team North Carolina has been hyped up every year I feels like except for this one win it get back on top I don't think it's gonna hurt the Big 10 because there no one thinks of oh yeah you know the Big 10 Minnesota Michigan and Ohio State like no one says that I care about Minnesota cuz the Brown Jug but that's it I don't care if they have they could be 0 and 12 coming in and if Michigan beats him and gets The Jug that's all I care about let's get the win um I'm trying to look and see the other big game would be the USC LSU game and that's the one where I'm saying if LSU crushes USC USC their wheels could fall off faster than what people are saying Florida states are going to fall off CU I think it's totally different where USC has a soft defense if they start to have doubts again lose big to LSU get get smashed in the mouth against Michigan I think Penn State maybe in back-to-back weeks or somewhere similar they could be in for a rough year um I which I the reason I sent you they put together the biggest bosss or not not the biggest bus the most overrated team since the playoff era and USC is number two behind Auburn you're joining the Big 10 the Big 10 killed the Nebraska program which team from the Pack 12 is gonna kill get killed in the big Tad that's a real thing well there's only two teams left so you have USC and UCLA coming in Oregon and Washington which one of those four teams is not going to be able to compete in the big tag one of them has to fall off right they can't all be Winners Texas and Oklahoma are also on this list actually organ's on this list too um and so like they're going into the the SEC are they going to be able to compete like I would think to me personally I know Texas chokes a lot I would think Oklahoma's going to have a rougher time in the SEC they don't have the money Texas has A&M has shown that maybe they don't win but if you can throw money around you can at least be relevant in the SEC and the last couple playoff games Oklahoma's played they've gotten smashed by the SEC right except for the baker overtime game if USC comes in and they don't have defense and you're playing against other teams that only have defense that's not going to be well if Iowa puts up like 35 points on them like how do you explain that to your family like what are you doing here they have to travel to Michigan and Michigan might not have a quarterback we don't know so by week three or I guess they might have a buy in there before the Michigan game of course they do so they have LSU Utah State and then Michigan followed by Wisconsin which Wisconsin is not Smashmouth anymore so I don't know I thought they were close I thought the Penn State game was closer but it's like in the middle of the year yeah if USC starts like one and two do the wheels fall off I mean it's realistic that they lose to LSU and to Michigan on the road and how bad did does their team crator and then do they start pushing Lincoln Riley out of there or does he just jump to the NFL say all right I'm done P Carol's moving back in he could just be there which would be funny but I don't know thank you um any other college games you want to talk about this weekend n all right last thing Netflix sign stealer documentary came out Conor stallions told his side of the story I didn't get to watch the whole thing thing yet I'm going to probably try to do that I told Matt we should have just did like a live commentary but I've heard it's very slow and they have guys like um broo on there in Disguise so it's probably not the most compelling TV um had a friend watch it give me some notes uh because I didn't have time at work and they were like I have more questions now after watching this than what I had going in which which brings up another point because I have been talking about Conor Stein for so long I just assume that everyone knows who he is that is not the case Ohio State fans surprisingly they didn't know that he was tied to the Harbaugh allegations they had no idea who Conor Stans was a couple people that I and I was very surprised by that because I I was assuming that Ohio state was kind of leading the charge here they just assumed that Harbaugh was doing some type of cheating didn't realize that it might just be this crazy guy doing it on his own right right um and a couple other football fans they have no idea that Michigan's even investigated which is against everything that people online are telling me that it's the worst Scandal of all time that no one thinks that Michigan Championship was like Fair some people don't even know that Michigan was under investigation which kind of shocked me when I was asking for like hey what are your feelings on the Michigan investigation they like I thought that was over me too buddy me too like just keep investigating um I will say this that based on the evidence that came out I forget who it was was it it was either USA Today I think it was Yahoo they confirmed through the the Foya act they got emails from other schools that confirm that other sign Steelers on staff were trading we're trading sence Stealers on staff yeah they're so you're allowed to have a sence stealer right that's in the rules that's what that's what Connor's um defense is and his lawyers actually came out that's the one thing they said in the documentary his lawyers are very strong I guess they questioned the NCA like where did you get all this information like someone was like spying on Connor illegally and they didn't answer the question and that was kind of like they're like we're just going to end the interview and that's kind of how Connor's I think they said it was real video footage of the NCA investigation that his lawyer put into the documentary saying that they NCA was like kind of asking all these questions but they didn't have proof but they said that someone had submitted a tip that was like following Connor around but then when they asked him like okay well let's see the evidence they were just like no we're done and then of course Michigan fired him after for not being not like telling the truth and it seemed like he didn't tell the truth again on the documentary because they said that poroi the guy from barcol is a Michigan Family he said that Connor admitted that he was on the central Michigan sideline in the documentary supposedly Connor says that that's not him and I don't I didn't watch it so I don't know what my feeling is um I did see someone said that through like the the the Freedom of Information requests that came through I've heard that it's possible that Central Michigan hired him as a one-time like a one game analyst contract position like that that's been confirmed which is exactly what I've been saying right it's not so much that he was there scouting for Michigan and that Harbaugh knew I think he was just say like he knew some people on the staff they said hey can get you Central Michigan gear we know you know the the Michigan State Signs wouldn't it be funny if you helped us beat them and he said hell yeah but but if that's the case M they didn't do anything against Michigan State right they lost and that was one of Michigan State's only wins last year so that kind of proves the the nca's thing in their own role book that says that advanced scouting or whatever doesn't help your guys still have to win win the game right um another thing that came out the NCA rule book you can view it online like I said sign stealing is legal you could also pay for people to send you videos and that was legal now it's still on the website but they they they crossed it out like you can cross out HTML on web so now there's a cross out but in the updates to the document they don't have any notes on why why they crossed it out or when they crossed it out the last update is from 2002 which is over 20 years ago saying that you could pay someone else to send you footage from games as long as you're not the one taking it right so I think that probably changed with the helmet coms thing so which now is legal right um and so I I think I I still don't have any feelings that have changed Conor stallion's probably working on his own he said that like I guess he's been telling people that he's like the best and he was bragging to other signs Steelers they have a network that they trade signs with that's been confirmed it was confirmed that Ohio state had Michigan signs it's funny because they never looked into that and they said that they got it off TV but the pictures of Don Brown are from the Michigan scoreboard they never show the scoreboard in the stadium on TV never that's never happened I've never seen a game where they show the video board in the stadium right have you I don't think like that's just a weird thing like why would they randomly be showing why would the TV randomly have Don Brown on the scoreboard for them to have these pictures that are kind of like up at an upward angle like they're in the stands videotaping Don Brown and then sending them to Purdue right that's where that footage came came from Purdue got footage from like Ohio State ruter and someone else I forget who the third team was they they were like here we want Michigan to lose which to me is worse than what stallion did had a bunch of guys come out um the other thing that came out that the NCA was kind of banking on it seemed like based on the reports that people put out they thought by now that one of the people that Conor would have paid right because they said it was a vast network of random sign Stealers that one of them would have spoke up against Conor stallion right no one has which is weird if he's just paying random people the NCA is reaching out to them and they were they're all every single one of them says like no I I wasn't filming the game for him to to code signs isn't that a little weird yeah a little bit because even the ESPN article I I don't know if I texted you this or who I was telling because like I was like waiting for this dogumentary to drop Michigan got their notice of allegations against stallion on Saturday ESPN never ran a story on it and thanel was in on it he tweeted that not much has changed and he still doesn't think Michigan's going to get punished or whatever as as harshly as anything because it seems like it's just a rogue stallions the documentary seemed like it was a rogue stallions I figured if they had anything damning on Michigan ESPN 100% would have had a front cover story because all last year Michigan was on the front page like almost every week right with something Harbaugh was doing now what happens with stallion I don't know um it seems like so he hired Manzel's lawyer I don't know if you knew that and they're gonna they're talking about suing the NCAA for defamation because he got a high school job and I think the documentary slash whatever that has been coming out got him fired at least in one of the articles that I read I think it was like the New York Times of course so he's saying that the NCA has no proof they've talked to everybody not one person has said that Connor paid them to film Michigan's opponents now he can't get a job he's getting fired before he's even there right uh didn't did Manzel win his lawsuit against the NCA or did he just eventually drop it I can't remember but I thought he had a good case whenever he I think he made money didn't he I should look that up I forgot to look it up before the show because if that's the case and he [Music] won um what does it say oh this is all about Reggie Bush because that's the one thing one thing it's he even asked I think his lawyers ask in the documentary like hey what rule did Corner break and they can't tell him anything and so if the lawyer goes through with suing them it just seems like it's a Witch Hunt that's what their lawyer called it and I'm not I'm not saying that I agree because it is kind of shady if you are wearing a disguise if they can confirm that that was him I think by now they would have to know right yeah so there's only two scenarios he was hired as a one game consultant the NCA knows that they know that that's not technically against the r Ru I don't think there's a rule against hired being hired by two teams right as an analyst I don't know I mean I just think it's weird it's weird of course it's weird dude can you imagine it would be like if you're an electrician or something and you're working on a big job and your buddy calls you and says hey I need help wiring a house he like well I'm not really supposed to he's like buddy I got I can give you my whole uniform you can even wear disguise if you want the game might be on TV though or like our work might be on the local news so you definitely want to wear the disguise and so then you go to do the electrician work and you do to the SKU and then your B your main company's like yo I saw you on TV was that you it's like that doesn't look anything like me that's exactly what he did right like someone that's like working for some other company does a non-compete and tries to do work on the side because otherwise it'd be like why would you not just like almost treat it like a free agency thing like okay this week I'm playing Florida who's the Florida Scout that knows all their signals I think I'll just ass him this week so that he can just tell me everything that they're running well that's why some of the people that um some of the Articles put up that uh Clemson has been complaining that they might have been one of the victims the year South Carolina beat them right they beat them in Tennessee and they said that Conor Sans might have been able to decode their signs so if South Carolina PID to send them signals that's not against the rules right he he probably wasn't at the game how can he be at every single game it doesn't make any sense how does a guy have time to not only decode all of Michigan's opponents but also Tennessee and Clemson like every single team how how is he that that great I don't know that's what people were saying they're like oh I watched the documentary that guy's an idiot there's no way he did anything Harbaugh used him but then five SEC sentences later they're like and he decoded every single team known to man and he was like he got hooker her right because he told South Carolina what play he was gonna run he heard his ACL and I'm like you just calling the guy an idiot what are you talking about I don't I don't understand like it has to be one or the other the guy can't be a giant idiot but yet he's like Rainman out there decoding everyone's signal for [Music] higher and if he's doing it everywhere then it doesn't only benefit Michigan and maybe that's why he got his own level one I don't know he's not settling he said so we'll see it's not going to go away Michigan could settle out and if he's the last one that's still floating around um oh there was one more piece those text messages from Shon Moore I guess Moore one of his lawyers or someone made a statement that like we we hope the NCA releases those texts because there's nothing in them so that's kind of good for Michigan as part of a ESPN was saying that he could be a repeat offender because he deleted those texts or whatever but if there's nothing in them and he gave them to the NCA right after they asked then what how can you penalize that did you see Murray from Oklahoma he contacted 17 recruits illegally during the Dead period harbal had one Burger harb suspended for six games dude Murray got one game one how same [ __ ] contacting someone during the Dead period Harbaugh got what a fouryear show cause or whatever get out of here that's all I have you have anything you want to talk about no I think we covered it all tonight we got some football hopefully I don't hear anym about stallion until the NCA just put it out there I mean obviously it's out there they could have leaked it if it was bad for Michigan I feel like it would have been leaked already I people are saying the opposite online it would make so many more articles and like clicks if ESPN is not even covering it at all knowing that there's how many Ohio State fans Penn State fans Big 10 fans SEC fans out there would they would eat that up where if it's positive for Michigan only michig Mig fans want to read that stuff right much smaller number that's probably why
