tiny bubbles I was listening to some Hawaiian music earlier Nate oh yeah we are live oh brother you like Hawaiian music br oh you can do the accent of course I played I played football in college with like 25 Hawaiians bro did you really yeah oh that's pretty funny when they get around each other and they start drinking you can't understand a word there [ __ ] but they can understand each othero Chad Brown is here as well any uh interactions with Hawaiian people there Chad paans all the time I grew up in Southern California so yeah Polynesians were certainly a part of my football experience gosh ever since I started playing football and then of course see we had a bunch of Hawaiian and Polynesian players as well um played with those dudes in the NFL it's one of the most amazing sport stories of all time that rarely gets touched on from a percentage of the population you know the Pacific Islands populations aren't very big yet they have so many NFL football it's unbelievable isn't it it's absolutely unbelievable what do you think that is well when you spend time around them the culture is of being big people um big appetites all that kind of stuff and they're stting a culture of toughness and responsibility and family these are all football traits so uh I think they're the the the body type the genetics plus the culture lines up perfectly with the game of football and the amount of success that they have is just off the charts right game rice and gravy they eat a lot of rice and gravy rice and gravy it's also a warrior culture yeah the culture of fighting fighting rice and gravy yeah um yeah we were just uh potatoes and too many kids with the Irish culture so you were fing like tall glass of milk man oh my God you just gave up the milk at dinner can you think of a more unathletic culture than the Irish seriously I me break it down like what do we really have going for us the Irish Ireland doesn't fight we'll fight anybody but we won't fight them well I mean yes we we will fight mcregor yeah was getting his ass kicked fight after fight these days by the way but you know would fight anybody for sure yeah we're more likely just to you know shoot you in the back of the head and dump you in South Boston like Whitey Bulger and stuff like the depotted I mean that's that's a little bit more of a or or rob the bank like in the town with Ben Affleck how you like them apples you know what I'm saying I mean that's have the Irish won any medals in the Olympics they have uh they actually won believe it or not their the best pommel horse dude in the world isn't the nerd from America It's actually an Irish guy named oam mallahan or something like that but he trains at like Arizona State or something like that well of course they all train in America hey by the way how do you like the the pole VA yeah that's what I was referring from Louisiana whose dad is American mom was a Swedish athlete and he told the US Olympic team to pound sand because he wanted his parents to trade him um train him so he he P vaults for Sweden how's that legal like how do you do that you know Sweden was just like sure a you want to uh jump the pole without your giant penis with us because you can't have the giant penis and jump the pole we've seen that right do you have the giant no I've got a micro penis oh you are good for the polar balls yeah prerequisite yeah the micro guys accents are terrible today terrible I thought I nailed that Oney dirty [Music] all right let me give you the uh the the Shawn pyton for today first the the we'll get into how stupid the depth chart is here in a little bit but um here is uh Sean talking about there is a battle at Center between wattenberg Luke wenberg and Alec forsight and he talk about his progress and how solid he's smart he's doing a good job on the second level I think he's uh we got good competition there we could have put or I mean look I I look at that and we we get the list together together it's due today by what time Patrick 2:00 so we get the we get the the the the word there is unofficial and we get it we get it written out but to your point about Luke though he's doing a good job with uh with what we're doing offensively as is Alex so there's real good competition there between those two and uh both of them will play a lot in this preseason okay yeah look it's we're gonna so it's yeah look uh listen relative to Rel the situation other mug have picked up relative to I don't know if you've seen this now this is a thing going around of the Bronco Muggles insert that into their conversations oh God relative to other football conversations yes relative you think when he's talking about his family he talks he says relative to my relatives perhaps with skylen his wife I think tonight is you know going keep keep his wife's name out your [ __ ] [Music] mouth relative to missionary position wow too far going man gone too far all right uh here he's he's talking about putting the um putting the rookies in the back and and his his his reasoning was humorous so it's easy to push the underling players to the back of the line and then uh make sure it's kind of where we sit right now and that's that's really it no it's a good question but I'm not trying to send messages at all so what why do you just cuz it's easy and then I don't have to spend 40 minutes with Patrick I could spend [Laughter] five that's a pretty legit media laugh right there it so funny yeah it wasn't you know not funny I thought that was a good one it's not like shame on Shawn Payne for not being funny but I just don't think that was that as funny as the mugol uh reacted dude in terms of press conference humor that was like you know that was up there that was up there man I mean it was it was it was funny enough do you guys even want to talk about the depth chart doesn't mean anything should I go into it at all I mean I'm looking at right here I can give you anything you want chart you must yeah I think it's talking about I mean other than the rookie thing which is which is pretty clear you know Troy Franklin GNA make the team right Bo Knicks gonna make the team audre cé those guys are GNA make the team yet they're last on the depth chart yeah he did that with he did that with all the rookies by the way yeah which makes sense is there is there a push back to that no I'm no no no it's just like listen man if you got something here's what I think because they haven't announced B Nick yet I do think sdam will start on Sunday how about that I do I think this is just the way Shawn Payne's going to go it's very kind of old school and it'll be like Bo has to earn it um I mean but the thing that Bo Nicks is behind Zack Wilson is is ridiculous I mean that that audri estimate is last in terms of you know running backs I mean give me a break samaj per may get cut so might Tim Patrick and they're both listed relatively high on the depth chart Tim Patrick's listed as the starter I thought that I know you know that was an interesting one there um I think it's out of respect to what Tim Patrick has done in a Broncos uniform but also maybe a kick in the pants to him like Hey this is so you gotta prove this because where do you fit in Tim and I don't think you know anyone's seen Tim Patrick make a play yet um in training camp I haven't been to every practice you have dmac I know you bounce out early to go to PhD where you chop it up with palumbus and Hastings every day from 12 to 3 yeah but um have you seen Tim Patrick make a special play out there no I haven't I've seen him look good and then you know drills like he looks athletic and you know catches all in the drills and then it comes the team period and it's just he's he's a ghost nowhere to be found right so as far as the rookies go could you reasonably put a rookie ahead of someone else who's actually started and played in the NFL without seeing that rookie play in a single game is that is that a it it feels quite quite reasonable for Shawn Peyton to put those guys last because they have not strapped it up during the NFL game not even one not even a preseason game I even had they haven't had a scrimmage yet so uh I'm all in favor of this let's see you play some real football before you earn your spot onto the depth chart all right so I mean it is kind of a joke Troy Franklin is with I mean I guess it's bad for a guy like Jaylen Virgil I guess you don't want to be Jaylen Virgil right your vet and your your last um I guess I'm looking for some other like Michael Bandy I guess it's bad news for him uh those guys are at the back I mean you already know those guys are are a long shot to make the team there's 12 receivers in Camp right now you haven't had any injuries which is great but nobody's you know falling off and I think that's a testament to actually the way they run practice now you know they don't push them very far these guys aren't getting hamstring poles and growing poles and things like but but at the same time like you know there's a callus are you developing the and also sometimes it's good in a way when a guy has to miss a couple days as long as he comes back and he's okay you get to see another young guy get more reps and get you know reps with the ones maybe for example and so be able to you know get some opportunities that he wouldn't otherwise and so uh you do get lost like when you when do you get to see that guy Stills make a play or Michael Bandy or those guys just don't even have chances so uh I'm sorry preseason is going to be really important for those guys to uh to get out there and show that they can catch the ball make some plays when the lights come on all right let's go over practice from the past couple days n what's good what' you see out there what uh what has impressed you and then how's your wife doing she's good man uh she's good uh any day now um you know okay yeah yeah so no baby yet which is cool all right um I don't know man like you know football practice bro it's not like you don't have these epiphanies every day I would say for me what I'm really uh excited about is javante Williams emerging as RB number one in my mind who he seems like you know he's shaking off last year's sort of Hangover from the injury he's dropped the weight he's taking the challenge seriously and he I I see him as just your starting day one running back it feels really good to know that you know where was he was a question mark going into this thing um I know like all we want to talk about is a quarterback but to me it's been bonick it's was bonick before the draft in my mind it was after it's still G to be I think he's going to start week one and I think the question is who's going to be his backup and I think that's serious a serious conversation being had up there you know is is is jar I've heard you guys talk about the money factor but not the money factor you know Zach I mean I don't know like do do you see enough in Zach Wilson potential wise to keep him around as a backup knowing that it's very likely that you he will see time on the field right well I would cut I would cut stum I would save yourself some money I don't but I think he's going to start against Seattle I you know what I don't know man I just and start him in week one I think so man I don't know I this whole like rookie [ __ ] thing it might drip on man it might it might it might F there there may be this like Bose's gotta prove it Bose's got to earn it I'm a [ __ ] bill parcel's dude so [ __ ] this is what we do it might happen Am I Wrong Am I am I crazy I don't think you're crazy um you know it's certainly is within the realm of possibility I think they're seem like they're greasing the sleds for bonck to be the guy um but again there has not been a official football game yet there hasn't been a preseason game there's no live bullets we haven't even had a scrimmage yet so from that perspective Everything feels super premature do bck is he tracking to be the guy yeah but now we're talking about hopes and wishes versus seeing it with our own two eyes show me that [ __ ] on on on game day then I can believe you outside of that we're talking hopes and wishes and dreams hey how often is there regression Nate if because all the reports out of pract by the way I did not today was the first training camp practice I didn't get to why I got a freaking nail through my tire my back tire as I was riding my bike to Camp it was like it's like a like somebody shot an arrow through through my heart and through my tire no joke the whole thing was I did not fall thank you I know you're rooting for it what happened was I was pulling up to I25 in Lincoln Little Bus busy there so you're not going all that fast I could I could feel it on the back of my leg I looked down gargantuan nail right I was about a mile and a half from home and I just walked the Walk of Shame with the bike your biker shorts and everything biker shorts walking that bad boy I did have a change of sneakers I did because I I bring a pair of sneakers out to Camp so I didn't have to click clack click clack click clack all the way home for a mile and a half uh um and I did not call for help because I thought that would be [ __ ] pathetic because I was only a mile and a half I mean who can't walk a mile and a half right especially when you're such a fine physical specimen like myself but you know just like [ __ ] stuff and I don't know how to take the tire off the the the back tire the back tire is a little trickier than the front tire so I got a little YouTube video help me I got it off anyways my point is I didn't go to practice I didn't see what was what um were you there today Nate I'm not sure if you were there either no no I wasn't there but uh you know you're talking about regressions and I know we're talking about quarterbacks and yeah because that's what I heard today by the way because I didn't see that's what I heard I heard nobody was that good Shawn Payne after practice said it was just kind of you know he wasn't infall with it yeah that sort of thing football I mean that's training camp you know it it es and flows there's a tu of War going between the offense and the defense and we're talking about the installation of the certain Playbook plays in The Playbook and the day three day four day five is installation and some days it's tilted for the offense some days it gets tilted back towards the defense some days the defense gets their ass kick some days the defense comes out and wants to avenge the ass kick in the previous day and so yes players have regressions if you want to call them that but the guys on the other side of the ball are getting paid too and they're the best in the world too and so there's a push and pull I mean you want so-called regressions because that means you're making mistakes you're learning from them you're coming back you're facing some adversity you don't want it to be smooth saing all the time you want some bad days you want some bad throws in my opinion you need something to coach off of for sure and you know players obviously consistency is the goal but you recognize human beings just are consistently inconsistent if anything so you need those days to as Nate talked about to point those things out you need those opportunities as a coach to you know point out this is where you think you were this is the reality of where you were I need you up here all the time you can't coast and be down here this is a show me everyday business um I've got some some numbers I pulled up here real quick guys while we're talking about the quarterback position and cash and cap and all that kind of stuff all right the Broncos rank 25th in the NFL in quarterback room pay they're at $13 million so 25th so that's super low so okay so we're not counting Russell Wilson obviously with that we're talking about who's in the room yeah Jared S bonick and Zack Wilson $13 million okay all right the Broncos have $6.5 million in overall cap space left so these Tim Patricks of the worlds these guys may get cut and they can end up being a cap casualty because they want to regain some of that cap space back because you're gonna have some injuries you're gonna have to sign guys during the season so six and a half million bucks is not quite enough of a cushion there now of course they lead the league in the largest dead cap hit of 67 million the only team that's close to them has a $61 Million Dead cap hit so where we're talking about Brandon auk whether we're talking about quarterbacks and cutting quarterbacks or whatever the case may be or some of these high pric veterans that's something interesting to know and interesting to watch all right um I guess we just gotta wait for this stuff to get here it's yeah say about the quarterbacks again yeah it's who he wants it's who he wants in there that's it it's not who's going to win the job at Camp it's who it's always been who he wants and who he wants is B knck B is the starter for this team going forward Shawn Peyton's going to make bonick his guy going forward and however bck all right then why why all the [ __ ] then man well because there is a development that goes on you don't want to just hand it to him you do want to make people work for it you do want to make people earn it and feel like you know there's a chance that they don't get it you know like I heard an interview with kle Shan I told you guys about this before last year when I was home visiting my mom and dad um like a couple years ago and he said like the best players that he's ever been around are the ones who think they're going to get cut the next day you have to have that edge you have to always come and feel like your job's on the line I think and especially you know as a Young quarterback the they rolled out the red carpet to Russell how'd that go not great no no no you want a guy to feel like he's got to earn it and and whatever that means for for Shawn Peyton he's going to go through those steps but it's a matter of time and I think it will be sooner than later that Bo is the guy because jar St hasn't done anything incredibly impressive he's operated the offense well okay but we've seen him play in actual games he didn't necessarily impress and he didn't come out right off out of the gate and blow bonick away and show that I'm the veteran and you're and he's the rookie here he didn't do that and so I think that indic case the bonick is the guy who's gonna get this sooner than later when the depth chart comes out do the players look at it Chad had his oh go ahead Chad sorry sorry goad you're good you're good no I was just goingon to say when the dep chart comes out do do you guys look at it do you talk about it is it a thing players yes of course players do yeah yeah and you know you see all the rookies in the back and you you know as a player you know this unofficial depth chart which is ridiculous that the NFL makes you do that but they still call it unofficial um you know it's a bit of a semantics kind of game kind of thing the coach spends as little time on it with it as possible I talked to Nathaniel Hackett specifically about this when I was doing Bronco preseason games two years ago he was like I think we did it in like three minutes I think Patrick filled it out I think he showed it to me I was like good and and walked away so that's all the time that is given to this of course media Inc and media voices are spilled everywhere around the country based off the NFL making teams do this at this point um but it's a bit of a ridiculous exercise um but to see the rookies earn it it's more than just for that individual player you want to create a sense of competition in a locker room if I don't care if I'm an undrafted free agent and that's a first round pick in front of me if I play Bayer better than I deserve to play and you're the type of coach and run the type of program and have a type of culture that's going to recognize that I'm bringing it every day and I will earn my way onto the field regardless of whether I was drafted or not so I think for Shawn Peyton there's a certain obligation to not give this away because that has a ripple effect in the locker room and it's not a good one if you don't play this right interesting yeah yeah read that it's all part of the process relative to Player Development development so I think the interesting part was on the defense where put deari matys or Riley moss and then he Jonas Griffith or C Cody Barton oh he did he did make some differentiations he did he did throw an ore in there yeah on defense okay positions so that's like hey I don't know yet guys you know what are you gonna you tackle yet how about that how about how about I get some tackling done before you make me do a dep chart NFL I didn't even notice that because that's what he C there's enough thought to put the ore in than to just be like just just put Cody first and but you know like to make it 5050 right there and have those guys understand that they're in a battle right so so there's a little thought put into the ore there uh I agree with you man if you put a little thought into it if you don't put any thought into that is interesting actually but but but he didn't do that with wattenberg and foresight I didn't even catch that that's a good pickup so he did that with Jonas Griffith and Cody looking at the quarterbacks man because I don't give a [ __ ] about the defense yeah actually you're right I got I'm not even joking about that I have barely nobody talk about the defense and I think the defense are gonna be this once again strength of the Broncos and nobody talks about it and that's going to be the best thing for bck is is a strong defense and I think this defense could be strong I do too they're just not very interesting like who's the most interesting guy ceran I guess but like who else who else field like his his H for whatever reason no on the field who like who like really get you going on that defense like who's like oh my God uh wow don't answer DMX's question yet include my question in your answer here Nate since you've been in practice okay dmac and I talked about this yesterday we fall in love with these dudes all we see them go against is other Broncos so if this defense is going to be so good what's your measure of comparison for that have you seen other defenses practice why do you think this defense is going to be good um because I thought they played pretty well the last you know last year other than that four four game stretch where they weren't where they played awful uh before Vance Joseph got him going and then they started became a takeaway machine turnover machine um under Vic vanio they were actually a pretty [ __ ] good defense under EEG Ro Evo a pretty good defense this defense has been not a top 10 defense in the NFL although the numbers would suggest it from fangio last year um solid the strongest part of the team because offense has been so shitty and now I think that you know with the Symmetry with Vance Joseph returning um the guys up front who make the the front seven better obviously the other middle linebacker opposite um uh uh Singleton is a is a question mark and so is that right corner and and of course your secondary but the front guys uh you know the Broncos weren't great against the run last year and they are look to be improved up front and I just uh I think that they are you know the offensive lines for the Broncos is is the strength of the offense and they're pretty good and and the defense has been dealing on them so I think the defense could be good any positive feedback on the offensive line Nate see anything good from the offensive line yeah I mean you know like I've only been at three or four practice so but uh from the first day that I went from the first day in pass where they absolutely got torched you know that defense was just going downhill yeah the offensive line is is doing a whole lot better because the the playbooks installed now and they can do other [ __ ] right they can hit him with play play action stuff I haven't seen any screens or anything like that out there yet but they hit them with play action they go right they go left and and and the defense doesn't can't just pin their ears back so and I've seen some nice holes open up in the running game so so so and like what I was talking about with javante javante seems to be hitting those holes pretty well and of course those holes are opened up by the offensive line all right here's the big one outside of the quarterback position what are you most looking forward to this Sunday position battles how well oiled the team is um yes what are you looking forward to the most being bored to to [ __ ] let me let me finish let me finish being bored to [ __ ] by the kickoff because it's gonna be kick off's gonna suck it's gonna suck all year it's gonna be a mistake they're gonna regret it they're gonna make tweaks to it to try to make it better next year it's gonna suck and I'll tell you why it's gonna suck the reason why kickoffs were great is because of the speed of everyone and it opened up holes right everyone's flying and moving and boom crazy [ __ ] happened well the way they set it up now there is no speed there is no momentum everyone just kind of fits up and just Waits on the dude there's GNA be no holes there's GNA be no action it's going to be the most boring [ __ ] play Not only boring but confusing they should move it back to the 25 yard line 25 yard line kick the ball off like the old days that would be the best thing for this sport Chad I'm I got of course I've got my two c but go ahead all right I think the kickoff is is the biggest rule change in the NFL in the past 25 years yeah so I'm really excited to see how this all plays out I don't think coaches are going to be unveiling their plans during pre-season but we will see you know some of it how it plays out I wish they would have made the penalty the 35 yard line rather than the 30 to force teams to keep it in play so we can get a little bit more action on that play a little bit more consistently there are already some coaches who have just you know talked about being willing to concede giving up the ball at the 30 um but as far as the answer to the question from the texter um I want to see how physical this team plays we've talked about the toughness of Camp about Shawn pyton pushing the rules as far as he can with the PA limits on padded practices and things like that how physical does this team come out and play because have to be the better team in the NFL you just have to be the more physical team so the Broncos can have the 32nd ranked roster according to Pro Football Focus but if they play with a top 10 level physicality they could end up being a wild card team they can play past their grades because they're the more physical team and I think Shawn Peyton understands and recognizes that possibility so I'm GNA see if that's G to start off with preseason game one the kickoff reminds me of a uh a previous co-host I had you can Jerry rig a lot of things to prop it up but at the end of the day it just sucks and you should throw it in the trash that's that's what I'd say on the old kickoff I mean we can boy oh boy oh boy did we try oh my God and then I get blamed for it okay my fault yeah right the whole thing needs to just be thrown in the garbage can you know what's that you think the kickoff should be thrown in the garbage or absolutely it's it's Fourth and 15 the balls at the 35 go be so coy that' be corny would be corny it's a football play no most of the time it would be change of possession it's a change of possession after a score to start a half it's not football play but the problem with the kickoffs now you can't even try an onside kick till the fourth quarter and you have to declare it they scre it up stupid like someone who cut like had had long hair and then they tried to cut it and then they [ __ ] it up some more and they cut it some more and then they cut it some more right and all of a sudden it's like Fu did you do to your hair man just shave it and grow it back out what they they've bastardized the kickoff so much at this point they might as well throw it in the trash can Dan they've told you it's too danger they have told you it's too dangerous is or is that my side that's not me okay is is everything okay are you getting an alarm you look Frozen to me maybe it's my connection everything looks good on my end go ahead you look fine Chad thank I can't look that good I am who I am I'm just saying all right my big hot take you're right we actually agree about the kickoff it's stupid I think Chad you agree with it too the whole thing's dumb no don't Lum me in with your stupid special teams opinions [ __ ] that no way man you like the new kickoff rules huh you like the new kickoff rules uh it's an attempt to bring excitement back and a actual play back I mean granted it will be better than what has existed which is kicking the ball through the end zone which is nothing so yes it actually something happens there is something that happens as opposed to nothing happening so okay Nate come on man there were 22 guys on the field one guy did something the kicker everybody else just well no that's why they shouldn't move it up they should have moved it back so but you can't have it too violent they they already said it's too dangerous it's too violent it's too it's too football they already said that they're they're not going to go back to something that's more dangerous dmac there's a reason why your first day on the job in football they hand you a helmet fine by me violent game I mean do they give you a helmet for PhD no they don't because you're not going to get hit in the head but everyone on a football field is they know that you don't know listen let me tell you something let me tell you something you will not have to twist any American Sports viewing arms to make something more violent Nate Chad that's what people loved about football in the first place sign me up kick the ball back from the 25 charge down the field make it the way it used to be you know fine nobody's going to have a problem with that except the NFL PA that's PA is not [ __ ] rallying for that who changed the rule who changed the rule to make it safer NFL the NFL conion the saf committee yes exactly it's concussion settlement it's [ __ ] lip service trying to appear that they give a [ __ ] about the health and safety of a player they don't it's a violent game you take way the kickoff it's still violent everybody's getting hurt anyway it's [ __ ] [ __ ] so what are we doing why are we even wasting our time on this stupid [ __ ] then that's what I'm saying if you can't do it the right violent kickoff way what are we bothering with why they've created a play that has an element of excitement to it there will be more returns for touchdowns or big gains this year than the previous five years combined put money on that one I'm willing to put money on that one I know I lost the last couple of our bets mate but I'm willing to put some money on this one dinner so there's that um this this will create an excitement about a play that did not exist previous to this so while it's not perfect there's still some ways to go and some tweaking that needs to happen in my opinion this is a massive step in the right direction IT addresses the 50 yard apart violent collisions it gives the fans another play to be excited about it gives the coaches another opportunity to make a coaching decision it gives all of us football fans and broadcasters another opportunity to dissect that decision in my mind this is a win for everybody except you what's the decision though like I don't I don't fully understand the rues so what is the decision they have to make okay so if you kick it into the end zone or out of the end zone the other team gets the ball at the 30 yard line okay yeah so you're essentially giving up a first down previous or old Touchback rules so are you willing to concede a first down and if you're playing can City and it's bucker the best kicker in the league who just got paid what 26 million bucks all they got to get is 20 yards 25 yards and he's in field goal range so are you willing to do that or do you take your chance and try to kick that into the kickoff box and limit that return to a shorter return with the risk being that dude can freaking take it to the house so there's coaching decisions that have to happen every single time you kick the ball now and by the way if the ball never if the ball doesn't land in the Box you got to follow me on this if it doesn't land in the Box it goes to the 40 yard line yeah yeah what if the very first kickoff out of the gate gets returned for a touchdown and then everyone's like no we're just G to kick it out of the end zone now well that's what Sean Payton actually threatened to do he he said if I see enough analytics to show that there's no inherent Advantage about covering it and the ball starting at the 30 we're just going to kick it out of bounds every time he wants to be moreck that changes strategy from week to week week so your your decision as a special team coach and a head coach is going to change from week to week depending on who the field goal kicker is on the other team all this matters in your strategy so again I think it's a fascinating rule change that is going to have implications every single week all right one thing for sure Sean Peyton's not going to be
