Stefanos Tsitsipas v Roberto Bautista Agut Full Match | Australian Open 2019 Quarterfinal

you got to look at their forehand there little old school isn't it I like old school me too makes me feel really comfortable actually Robbie I'm with you fy I think it was a real eye opener to me with all the other things that happened against federo the other evening to see how hard this youngster hits his forehand without missing it you know it on the night it was a better forehand than the great mans and that that's saying something because Roger was missing he was mistiming the ball had a high percentage of unforced Errors By His lofty standards this young lad used his forehand [Music] magnificently do you think one of the the reasons why we see single handers with such big forehand is is that when they're youngsters they struggle so much with their back hands I'm talking about you know 12 13 14 so they feel that when they do get a forehand as a youngster they need to rip it and go for it and try and dictate the point yeah I think there's Merit in that 14 15 of course Stefanos is dead and also his coach is in the house apostos that's a good Greek name isn't it yes was knocked the fluff off that one and Bautista I I will go about his business just like every day he's worked hard for many days in his career to get to this level No Frills attached he will be hard to beat that is line I arrest my case first game returns virtually on the line and cracks another foram winner when he gets the opportunity this guy can really [Applause] play yes that is placed with Precision C has challenges remaining Advantage last couple of years at the start of the season this guy has been very impressive it's the fourth consecutive year in which he has won a title prior to the Australian Open because he won in doho very first week of the year dead Batista G beat jovic in the seies along the way he's got a break point here [Music] there you [Applause] go 15 to mentally get up again after the biggest win of your young life and to play Hey this is no journeyman this is a seriously good player btia good we'll be watching with interest probably for a fair period of time I would say that's different conditions too compared to the federal match you know night is very different to this the ball flies more in the day here oh this power at the end of the range is incredible from the spard he got lucky in the [Applause] end it's amazing how consistent both these guys are given how flat they hit the ball it shows you the kind of feel they have G well this has been the perfect start for Roberto take a look at the serve how he leads with the left arm he's got the platform serf drives up well yapper body is relatively straight which is always a good sign on contact with the ball all the weight is going upwards so important in the serve s serving from the tough end [Applause] he's a consumate professional too isn't he isn't he [Music] just he so disciplined with everything shot making choice of shots [Applause] War 15 it's the serve clock is on the big screen happened to him twice against Federer in the first game that he served you know the nerves and the the surroundings just threw him a little bit he got two warnings early on none after that we don't want to be dropping it short to Bautista [Applause] good no fuss he just uh does so many things right understands when he can move inside the Baseline when the ball's short like you said Robbie he'll deal with that harshly if you drop it there mhm goo [Applause] the call on the left line the balls called in Stefanos here pumps his fist even after the challenge he thinks it's good it's a good play from The Young the youngster he he likes hitting that for in and coming forward he knew it was good too by the way he did that so well against feder the other evening didn't he he sure did he was impressive in the four Court remain let's f [Applause] yeah great positioning in the four Court the first volley was right at the top draw well he talked about with John Mao in fact on court the other evening about his voling skill and I think as a young player that's almost the most impressive thing to me because so many youngsters these days don't master that particular technique until they get a bit older he's got it and he's got it in Spades as a youngster I think it's his movement up at the net he covers and anticipates well really instinctive voler and uh he's a rare package at this age yeah pH Al athlete for 6'4 really is the modern day tennis player isn't he 1 15 that shot will worry me a little bit from him the one-hander in these conditions that are flying here today in this the middle of the day warm sunshine the ball flies controlling that one-handed down the line may be a question mark in these conditions it was fine in the evening tell you what I love about him is the way he attacks the angle on the forehand never waits for the ball to come to him does he yeah he almost runs through it does he yes takes it so early couple that with the pace with which he hits the forehand that's a it's a he combination there's your case in point Robbie almost runs through the ball takes it early and that Rush the opponent because the ball's from his end down to the other end quicker than you expect that's such a great asset to have a chance for CES to get back on a level pegging here yes wow that is very uncharacteristic to miss by that much Advantage BST good yeah B bsta good lead three games to one so facing his first a little bit of adversity Batista a good comes through just keeps the Greek at arms length [Applause] it's been a lot of discussion about how he will respond after that match against feder but if you weren't with us at the start of the show just remind you who this guy beat in Canada along the way when he made his first master is 1,000 final there eventually lost to Rafa of course to be Dominic team who was eight in the world Novak jackovich who was 10 beat Zev saved two match points he was three in the world beat Kevin Anderson the next round save one match point K was six beat four top 10 players don't think he's going to be too intimidated out here one of those was ranked 10 at the time but that's not a true indication of where nov jovic was coming from too true and that is a stefanus special of course this Rod La Arena roof has had an upgrade took 3 years to install a new mechanism to help the roof close a little quicker closes in just under 5 minutes now and the past used to take about 25 to 30 minutes to close the roof here [Applause] got to be careful coming in when it puts you at such an in such a negative position he was defensively trying to volley that passing shot from Bautista auu dangerous to come in if it's not really pressing home and Advantage with the with the approach shot for SC are just so good with that first strike after their serve V majority of rallies throughout the tournament will be less than five shots that is the reality of the modern day game so you've got to be good with that one strike know anything you can do so can I lead four games absolutely and isn't it interesting watching a player two two different personalities here on this court you sort of see everything that sitp pass does you don't quite see everything that Bautista aut does he's ah head for too under the radar that's a typical perfect example the ice and fire that we used to see with bjor and John right [Music] wrong choice I think I mean he didn't have a lot of options there did he only just got to the ball btia auu on the drop shot but once he pushed this across Court it really had to it really had to be a winner he was out of position for anything that would come next 13 [Applause] 15 given how much we think this is going to be a physical battle I think the ser are going to be important how many UNR return serves each player has giving you that easy hold expending less energy there's that back one-handed backhand down the line in these fiery conditions tough tough to hit that time and time again with accuracy I think today he made that call already early on in the match you've been spot on he may well find his range because he he did it the other evening but it's a little heavier at night a little more control whoa go go agut will be disappointed with that that was an opportunity to press home an advantage here he's already got the break wasted opportunity yeah important hold for CEST still looming large in the rear view mirror no problem with it down the line there he was set very early though wasn't he moves well he's got a quick First Step sits a pass and when he had his opponent on the defensive he was there in plenty of time that's a different ball game they set balanced bit different to uh other options when it's deeper bit quicker on you and you're not balanced as well he has vaporized that forand I mean look at the spread from the left of your screen to the right I don't care how fast you are you're not going to catch up to that are you is vaporized a South African to I don't think so I like it all right back at you he's his forand is impressive isn't it I until I saw him play against feder the other night and I saw that live I didn't know his forehand was this good mhm love the way he just shortened it up there on the back swing great timing [Applause] there's coach of Roberto Batista good to P vendrell I've been team for a long time good combo [Applause] 14 once again s making some good inroads he's got himself another break point oh he's missed it or not line the b in well what we did notice the other evening was that Stefanos is very definite about his challenges not always correct but he does it with Vigor when he challenges oh it's well wde yeah he's right there's the first bit of influence from the crowd the Greek component here really uh vocalizing their approval what a get it was and the log from sit pass just to keep himself alive on the point and again bringing that athleticism into play so after 34 minutes it's on as even for all well he has a bit of momentum here at the moment too does set a pass very important break back there for four all a spring and E step again [Applause] 4 there one thing having a lot of support but you got to get them plenty to cheer about that's exactly what he's done in the last five minutes 40 it's not coming [Applause] back these guys are both so lethal when they've got time on the ball short and Central they in trouble if they get to use their forehand look at the depth and the width 14 13 [Applause] oh yes that's the one you've been warning against it's it's got him a little bit uncomfortable isn't hasn't it that uh that particular down the line singlehander you need a bit of time there mhm I mean feder has been the master of it Stan V ranker of course certain Frenchman as Well's got a pretty good backand down the line rishard gas yeah you need strength don't you to control that toce from 40 [Applause] loveage he certainly got his teeth in the match he's he's not thinking about that round of 16 victory over the great man right now again now bruising angles and Os with that forehand here set pass he's got some vers utility sit a pass though I mean he can slice the ball with accuracy he he understands most concepts of the of the game doesn't he he comes under the ball comes over it it's the one coming over it I'm not convinced about but I think as he gets a little older and more mature he'll handle that one hander so well but he does everything else with a plum at the moment the voling the serving the movement 15 it looks like the complete package for sure 15 13 dangerous times now this this m this set is has really turned and it's not about how many double fults or Aces you hit but when you hit them that was the first double fault for Bautista a good in the match with the quickness the anticipation and the the reach of sit a pass makes it very difficult to serve Aces against him federa had more trouble than normal against him the other evening get the ball away from his reach he makes you play that extra ball so often Miss call on the right side line the balls called in more out than in but it doesn't mean it's out no it doesn't through the air I I I thought this was going wide but I'm not sure okay catches it doesn't it does it yeah 14 it is indeed one of those line licking for hands One Challenge remaining you let [Music] [Applause] cheat definitely not an Aussie I don't you start [Laughter] now oh dear I thought you were a better man than that Robbie couldn't resist [Applause] fzy there wasn't much in that game no malito two and it's Point versus game point this is the first real poor execution that we've seen from Stefanos this battle well and truly joined dad and brother Patrick Mor tolu in the front where he spends a bit of time training as the Greek [Music] 15 left that's a pretty big serve 198 out wide I mean it'll measure faster if he hits an ace here down the middle in the T that's where it measures the highest but 198 wide on the second Court that's big There It Is 207 he heard you fy this is live tennis too I didn't know that was coming that's what he's capable of another Speedy hold and [Applause] that's love 50 interesting when we have a look at the average Top Spin rate can see how flat btio good hits it VY sits it pass lot more revs on his forehand still not as many as somebody like a federal or an ad doll in the the mid [Applause] 3000s on the backand as well he tries to brush up the singlehander more so than the Spaniard thought 15 1 the Greek looking a little bit more likely isn't he in the lat stages of this set oh wow okay there's that lethal forehand and the footwork of this agile fo4 young athlete backs [Music] away and has time some lovely Athenian Artistry when he needed it most that forehand brings up two set points that's great all C tennis isn't it remember mirav machia yes the big cat yes this kid moves well he covers the court beautifully like he he had time there he he can take large steps and remain balanced couldn't win that one here he comes stf sit pass wins the opening [Applause] St love [Applause] 15 I'm pretty conf to say though that Roberto Bautista aut won't go anywhere he's here for the Long Haul he is a steady clear thinking character his work starts again now for his world CL he just stands and delivers doesn't give up any ground the technique is obviously different to somebody like fed but the principle of taking that ball on so early is very much like Roger on the forehand side oh come on 40 15 well you need some luck mhm but it was the control and the awareness of opening the face of that racket was the subtlety there for me game he drops the hammer at 207 first game second and Maria I think part of the inspiration for young Stefanos it's great isn't it mhm of course they play together at Hopman cup tennis event we have our first week at Perth were you there FY at Hopman cup I was there I saw Stefanos live hadn't seen him live before then mhm saw Maria as well both quality young players this guy's got everyone's attention this week isn't he for certain [Applause] H is Exquisite control of a tennis ball one game the length and the width on this shot about as good as a gets great balance isn't it backs away finds the perfect time to transfer his weight back in the direction he wants it to go love 50 [Music] seen that a couple of times this week not only from Stefanos but the the approach down the middle or or the the ball that can easily be a winner down the middle because they figure that the opponent is going to go one way or the other and it's not a bad Ploy at times that's a rare occurrence as well from sitz pass first one of the match I think by memory he hit two or three over four sets only against Roger F the other evening [Music] don't over charge him F you're doing my homework for me Robbie it was one in fact I knew it wasn't a large number that's impressive isn't it not sure about this though this might have dropped wide or indeed long wasn't wide if you draw a line directly behind the Bas onine but that's not in y so break points here [Music] great courtcraft from Bautista [Applause] aut love 15 well he shows maturity Beyond his years doesn't he I mean he was he was angry at the change of ends he really unhappy got that out of his system he's back on it straight away back to business [Music] 13 15 I think at this age too you've got to be a little careful of flat spots you know that the longer you've been a professional like bti are good he he's less likely to have really deep valleys with the Peaks he'll be more steady maintain that level for longer I think younger players have a tendency to possibly drop off more at times and we have to see whether Stefanos can uh avoid that here he taking a page out of stepanus is book here isn't he it's fair to say he's no slots with the forehand himself good [Applause] game he's bounced back from that first set lost has Roberto lead three games and why would you be surprised this is a confidant Pepe VR as coach number of years now doing a lot of talking there better to be a bit [Music] careful as long as it's only encouragement and not coaching how's your Spanish Robbie not good not good at [Applause] all 50 [Applause] oh [Applause] did all the hard [Applause] work couple of great KS [Applause] interesting watching that win predictor there all right so he's taken too long now loses his first serve that's correct oh that is too good yeah took a risk maybe partly due to the fact he's down by a break already this is a second serve the penalty cost him his first serve opportunity here second serve Ace he's got some X Factor head me oh that's a perfect description isn't it need some arrogance I think to be at the top of this sport he can do it with class and he does but he's confident he believes in his ability [Applause] [Music] wow how's up a one predictor looking here John pre-match Stefanos uh was the underdog still like Cas even after winning the opening set amazing I wouldn't have thought there was anything in it at the beginning of the match I would have thought 50/50 was a fair call keep in mind that in a major when CPAs has won the opening set he has never lost seven no no oh how about that and I just want to remind you of the flip side of that as well Fitzy that Bautista good when he loses the first set at the majors he's 8 and 20 so a not a great record only eight wins but 20 losses again testimony to how difficult it it is to win when you've lost the opening set even for somebody like [Music] Roberto yeah I I would have thought that btia auu would would have a much better record after losing the first set he's he's he's a strong physical player who does doesn't never lies down he competes to the end he's hard to put away I I would have thought it was a gee 8 and 20 that surprises me yeah I would have thought 8 and maybe 50/50 yeah 8 and 10 8 and 12 that's big time tennis 15 of course the good news if you're a fan of the spard he did it just a couple of matches ago [Applause] in fact it was his last match against Marin chich when he lost the opening set bounce back to win game BST leads four games to two [Applause] he's hitting the ace race 9-2 that brings a smile to my face someone with that agility that size with the Speed and Agility to make this he comes in on a ball that puts him under pressure and adapts beautifully that's skill four to long you get a a thumbs up from a man who voled as well as Fitzy that is a real stamp of approval you're too kind but G he's impressive [Music] [Applause] [Music] just continues to go about his business doesn't he Roberto he's a Class Act and it's always a sign of what a great Placer of the ball you are when you can finish off the ear with a shot like that [Applause] there's no one trick pony either he certainly isn't beautiful feel lovely volley he's one all four points when he's come in this set seven of nine for the match suffocating CEST there with [Applause] di BST lead five games to three so this time CES not able to break in the eighth game and being a breakdown as he was able to do in the opening set at the very least Batista good will have a chance to serve for set number two 15 look [Music] yeah takes it on the rise no harm in being a bit more aggressive than normal in this game he's up a break why not try to unsettle his younger opponent with a bit of this 15 he's going to win him a lot of points in his career sits a pass with that serve short reply drills a forehand down the line and goes in that'll be one of his stock standard place 14 15 [Music] that is glorious difficulty factor in this shot is right up there he made it look so easy taking it early changing direction heading it over the highest part of the net into the least amount of C off the charts good call on the right of line called out well he didn't hold back on that second serve no that's out of the Nick curios Playbook that one Co use beforehand is good isn't it I think it's better than good better than good it's going to pay for some nice real estate in Athens in years to come uh uh a real estate man I see that's a casual yes yeah he knows it doesn't he yeah not not he didn't commit he got he got casual he was there and by his standards not a difficult volley he thought he was just going to clip that one over and run and walk to the side no such luck [Applause] I'm going to refer to that as the real estate play from now on like it we just need some dollar signs that swing up in a graphic as soon as he hits it [Music] yes [Applause] big difference there you'd expect that Bautista auu such a safe player misses relatively few [Music] advantage to us that's better FY took bit more care with that final [Music] [Music] shot oh that's a wonderful tennis IQ understanding where the space is 15 fact the shoes come off so he's allowed to take time here just to get the equipment back in working order keep those trades nice and tight [Music] lights for up let's for so there the one that he lives and dies by a little bit [Music] there it's a matter of choosing exactly the right moment to hit it I think if he rushes himself at all it's fraught with danger to spray that one wide oh it's one of my favorite patterns of play that 1 15 Stefan edberg used to it all the time take that forehand early just bunt it down the line come in what see [Applause] 15 so after 42 minutes in the second set it's btia good with two set points that's the way to shut the gates on on set number two Roberto wins it six games to four it's a set of piece a that field we've seen these guys on court for what an hour and a half now are you leaning towards one player over the other Fitzy look I'm I'm a good f consider yeah yeah I don't mind that [Laughter] either oh look I I just find it hard to pick here I you know the youngster can he produced the same o same standard that he did the other night over another two hours mhm unusual for a 20-year-old to be this much of a threat at a major so all of these things are sort of untested we know how well Bautista UT will play for the for the rest of this match my only question with him was at the start I mentioned how he may he may uh have struggled to recover from those long initial matches of his but there's no sign of that [Applause] really I I I think if I was going to I think if Stefanos can play close to his best he he he might win but that that's a question mark and he's got to do it for a sustained period of time here our phone's just lighting up with Twitter responses from all the the Greek supporters saying hey Robbie he's got Bautista good way he wants him every match he's won has been four [Music] sets keep the Symmetry going right I reckon you would have been the perfect father you know telling those stories bedsize stories you would have had people enthralled yes City call on the right near s side line the balls called [Applause] in yes Mr tias has two challenges he's not backward in challenging he has a crack you highlighted that at the start too [Music] true and the body language when he challenges is just so positive he thinks he's got it right every time on the challenge it would have been tough to play as a junior right yeah yeah intimidating calling your own lines I'm not suggesting anything there I'm just saying that when he challenges he doesn't to pull any punches why [Music] not gee that's field right hands from The Young [Applause] GRE 15 left I'm going to give you a couple of names you've got $100,000 and you you can invest in those stock options right now of a player who's going to win the first major out of the likes of sites Zev shapovalov Tio 1 maybe an Alex deor thrown an Aussie well the first point I'd like to make is that you're a very appropriate Bank Source Robbie okay yeah I like the fact that you're putting up that 100 mhm um 40 it's a nice but I'm relying on you to make the good investment for us here that's your first mistake look s is is ahead of everyone isn't he he he's there first but he's older uh he hasn't been that outstanding at the Mages by his world ranking though which worries me a little bit I'm sure his time will come one game just a one quarterfinal for him yeah I I'd have to go with him he's older okay he's he's more advanced he's been ranked four in the world for a while has won a couple of Masters won thousands and he's got he's got consistent wins over the heavy [Music] weights Lo a year older when Stefanos set a pass is alexand Zer 21 be 22 in [Music] April 15 what I will say is that zipas and shaav volov yes they have the most versatile games that I like they have multi-dimensional options they both come in well they both serve really well all Court games and I think under different they have the ability to win in different circumstances I I like the multi-dimensional approach to playing those two guys really get my attention Mr T call on the right central line balls called out you I thought it was wi what about your opinion on those those five youngsters [Music] speaking of multi-dimensional that just might be the clencher for me Mr tius has one challenge remaining I think if I had to only pick one probably before this tournament even before the start of the season I would have picked Z but I think sit pass might have just jumped in front of him given what I've seen this week I think a massive progress game I accept that but it's a it's a tight race [Music] 15 look well he's starting to employ that drop shot even more and more just a sign of his versatility so when you when you become good at a sport like this surely you must have multiple ways to win points he's giving us an array at the moment a little ambitious there I don't mind ambition but very difficult when you look at the Angles and the depth of this court to play it from back there near the shadow way back behind the Baseline try to hit a Top Spin lob percentages of that are through the floor oh that's such good qu well we've talked a lot about sitz pass's ability to get around the court his his athleticism in a more subtle way Bautista a good is also an incredible athlete he doesn't get your attention as much but he moves with beautiful balance and when he gets there he's got some feel [Applause] two gamees on [Music] love 50 well in his [Music] [Applause] subtle in his subtle way Batista auu is just sneaking up on this match isn't he you sort of don't notice him doing it yeah it's not like he bedons you to death is it it's just a little Nick here another one [Music] there it's certainly an understated way but he's here right now now this match can turn here starter with a double fault opening point of the game just put set pass behind the eight ball three break points [Music] 15 14 [Music] it's rbaa all away 15 call on the left near side line called in 15 let's first [Music] you're joining us has no more challenges remaining wow yeah well he's quick on the quick on the trigger on those challenges and it's left a little hole here no options left but to accept the call it's only halfway through this third set of course he'll get more in the fourth but for this third set his challenging Days Are Over Le he can get it to tiebreaker he get an additional one there get sign for one of those right now would sits up pass 140 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] 15 it's like a battery charg metronome isn't he keeps coming at you too [Applause] true good lead four games [Music] [Applause] well he won the second he came back and now he's got the jump in the third the momentum is heading the Spaniards way here now it's time for Stefano sitp pass to go where he hasn't been before It's like Star Treck let's go well he did that against feder a few times he hits a crosscourt and comes into that for I Don't Like It generally but he gets away with it a bit because his foing is so penetrating he hits it so hard and he understands the pattern of play as well is the crosscourt pass so he leans there so at least he does cover that much oh he took the foot off the pedal 15 a lapsing concentration is there a flat patch here that's what you've got to start thinking about can't challenge anyway but it's definitely wide yep dation warning dation serve Mr second time it's happened now that he has lost to serve that's all that happens each time you get a Time [Music] violation and each time he responds with considerable app and I really respect his attitude to the situation just got on with it didn't he he did yeah good sign previous time that happened he hit a second surve [Music] a wow this guy's Relentless though isn't he I guess that's why the Umpire has to be fair to both players Fitzy because if Roberto is running him around he doesn't want to allow stefanus to have that additional time he wants to play while he's tired right no way you got to play within the time frames y That's the rules of the game it's all good though he accepted it well [Music] yes 1 I think it was good officiating all round good attitude as I said for the youngster closes the gap [Applause] we've seen some good allore tennis from both players Fitzy yeah I think some of the spectacular stuff we've seen all tournament from sitp pass is just g a bit flat here though while his opposition is maintaining his level beautifully 15 [Music] [Music] 15 14 do you get the feeling there's going to be a few more Peaks and valleys in this match absolutely we got a way to go haven't we y [Applause] [Music] [Music] 15 14 [Applause] well well well course when he was down a break in set number one it was the eighth game sets a pass broke back he's got a chance to replicate that now two break points h beautiful high quality isn't it 1 14 I mean to hit the ball with that speed that accuracy and then finish it off with this wonderful tennis of the highest quality here it's just no Panic he doesn't try to hit it too hard yeah he's not out of the woods yet let's first yes what a one-w combination again [Applause] T us [Applause] [Music] [Music] he's messed up sets a pass breaks back bsta got the on the right side line and Bs called out well this is wide if this is not wide I'm going to get three new pairs of spectacles Robbie this is well W so I think he knew it well the es and flows has two she was right wasn't she Maria that's about how far it was mhm four a piece 15 love well and that break back back has caused the the tension and the atmosphere in this Stadium to light up again oh you got to love the subtlety of both those shots and it just shows you how devastating placement can be it's not all about power is it is G choice of shot when to play it just beautiful you know great players I think have the ability to change Tempo you know cipes has that he also has the ability to change the speed of how he hits the ball during a rally so he can he can he can caress the ball and out of nowhere accelerate different oh there's nothing caressing about that forand well there's one of those approaches to the forand that gets him into trouble he gets away with a with it a lot because of the speed he hits it with but a good there so deep in the court he couldn't get this ball past and that's dangerous when you give a player of this caliber a running forand but the X Factory he has his multi-layered I think sits pass we can't talk him up too much yet cuz he hasn't want a major but he's he's he has the qualities that stand out he can change the pace of the ball yeah do stuff like this yeah and change a flat period into an exciting period very quickly that's exactly what he's done here momentum firmly with the Greek now 15 look 30 love [Applause] let 15 that might be a nice little confidence booster if he starts to make this shot a bit more regularly watch out he struggled early on didn't he very difficult to do for a one-hander change direction from the crosscourt to the down the line well from Bautista aut's point of view I don't like that Miss seemed to not get feed into position there he got jammed unusual miss good improvisation on the return of serve for the youngster [Music] oh yes super cating and Sensational did I see a lack of movement from Bautista a good there I mean this this is a a big winner but it's not near the sideline [Music] I wonder is the physical toll getting to him set point set a pass oh he's paid the price well he's handled that disappointment well too sit a pass because the set was there for his taking he just m hit the forehand hold faithful letting him down at the most crucial stage in this third set how casual was the shot from Bautista aut though set point down y he just rifled the forehand winner oh stop it Advantage I'm not sure he's playing in his normal way here 100% Bautista a I mean that's a heck of a shot but I just wonder if he's physically hurting a bit here he's keeping the points a bit shorter mhm what a time to play that he's just checking the clock again counting it down before he serves Fitzy I think you're on to something yes his time on court here this these last nine days has been way up there your spot on coming into this match sit pass 12 hours 16 minutes Batista good just over 14 hours most of all the quarterfinalists mtia got the call on the left F line the ball's called out well we talk at times we talk at times about what it takes to win Mages most of us don't know Robbie but for the great players they tend to win their early round matches quicker than the rest of the guys that gives them a freshness in the second week that allows them to launch their attack set point against again yes he lets him off twice wonder if that's tightness you would have to think so ball didn't have a lot of velocity and it crashed into the net let come well I think there's been a couple of nerves here when he's had the opportunity to finish this set but I definitely think there's a drop in physical presence from this man and it only takes a subtlety will it be Third Time Lucky for sitess how good is that wow and the pantheon are great shots that backand is right up [Applause] there 15 call on the right b line the called in well for me that might be an indication also that sitz a pass knows his opponent is struggling he catches the line there the luck is with him and that would be the good luck mhm is with him he he he dropshot it on the first point there to bring his opponent forward is that related to the movement of his opposition [Music] he's serving first here too two sets to one serving first he's looking like getting off to a good start things rolling the young guys way 40 [Applause] 15 G start for the youngster that's the reason why he missed Oakland this yeah he won in DOA took the week off before the open yep I hope I hope we're not seeing that for his sake mhm but there's a suspicion 30o [Applause] sitz pass still is going to have to beat him though he's going to have to win this match rather than have Roberto give it to him on a plate that won't happen I wouldn't predict it I think set set passes looking very good right now it's been a big swing change since the start of the match the wind predictor had Bautista good as the favorite once again the youngsters defying the odds game new balls please one game what is the mentality here when you're hurting in a match how how do you hang on in there how do you process it what's the mindset well it's it's perseverance of the mind you have to have a strong mind I'm sure but it's got a bit to do with pain threshold too I think some of us have lower pain thresholds than others prob [Laughter] he certainly doesn't look afraid to win does he it's a pass that's important isn't it very yep it is oh that's ambitious wrong choice there notice how quick he was to get out there though he was there with time he just chose the wrong shot there probably should have chipped this ball back AC Cross Court and deep again if he could have but look at that long stride with the balance reckon he'd make a good 400 meter Runner he would but I think it come second to Wade Fook okay he wouldn't he wouldn't be from the same part of the world that you're from would he absolutely got a back up my hometown [Applause] boy a big fan of the 400 met it's a good call Fitzy he's got those kind of strides on him hasn't he the great Ed Moses was one of my favorite athletes up that was 400 hurdles back in the day us to live at Newport Beach in California Edwin Moses lived down the street it's pretty cool didn't take him long to get [Music] anywhere and obstacles were no problem sure a his versatility all Court Play Beautiful to watch talk about paying your Jews for this guy lost in the round of 6 on nine previous occasions 10 Time Lucky for Roberto getting to his first quarterfinal three of those losses were actually right here 2014 it was demitro who beat him and 16 it was bird and then 17 Milos aric he's been playing some good ters he was very impressive and dismantling Alexander Zev yesterday 1 one and six the score line there he's a live chance isn't heos got a sneaky feeling about him this season be careful gam since he's wi and finally hasn't by those standards set the world on fire but he's due I think he's back it seems the body's healthy mhm it's always the big question mark for Milos can he play a season and remain injured very free well it's a big body it is a lot can go wrong with big bodies you know let first 15 please went are a bit shorter aren't they I think 4 [Applause] to things going quickly here in this fourth set yeah you can see a bit of fatigue perhaps starting Miss call on the right line the ball called in other thing I like about his challenges is that they're timely straight away there's no asking the box there [Applause] yeah he's not he's not short on it throwing the dice on those challenges used up his others in the third set by halfway through the set after five games two remaining in this set another one well that looked to me to slide off the line so if that's the case it'll be one left look how definite he is [Applause] yeah well that one was a shocker that was inside the line getting heading himself on the challenges yeah handled it well [Applause] [Music] long as he doesn't try to finish it too quickly sit a pass he's going to keep playing the same tempo if he can three of piece games FY how difficult is it when that Finishing Line is in sight just to to maintain that Tempo yeah I think you have to to think clearly don't you and it's the important the importance of I guess maturity and uh experience in some ways he hasn't had a lot of experience comparatively but he certainly has maturity Beyond his years he has to think clearly here and not rush too much I mean there's a long way to go really in some ways isn't there his opponent is a warrior don't get ahead of yourself once again just digging into that Manual of masterpieces there's a pool of talent here isn't there great feel 4 well worrying stages now for Bautista are good and you start getting towards the end the business end of the set the danger just becomes a little more highlighted oh nothing better than a love hole at this stage in a match and it's just pass has got love fitting [Applause] [Music] 15 let so so we love to that won over 1 15 he's going to have to beat Baptista a good isn't he he can't just chip the ball back and expect this man to give it to him it won't happen he's going to have to get a hold of the ball be just as aggressive as he has been all match so far and that doesn't doesn't really mean that defending from so far behind the Baseline will cut the mustard here has to get on the front foot when he can 14 1 [Applause] again B this for game on you just got to keep hanging around Roberto yep yep he does got to you got to be in it to win it you just never know what might happen on the other side of the court it's exactly what he's done in this fourth set this man's look stronger but it's still only four all [Music] I guess the key for sit pass has been how comfortably he has been able to hold serve fit he's only lost two points over half has serves have been UNR returned he still he has the ability you know you asked me about his service motion early in the match you know I mean it's it's probably not perfect he falls away a bit to the left we talked about but he's still serving that one 186 deep into the fourth he can serve big for long periods of time it's really helping him here it's more advantageous than the Batista Aus serve he's tied too M but I think the opposition is worse off physically he picked the right way didn't he [Applause] Roberto he's just trying to hang in there like you said Robbie get to the tiebreaker possibly get through it and wonder what's on the other side Game Pass it's another Ace [Applause] spe [Applause] thir it's inevit inevitable over time that reactions and speed around the court will just diminish slightly The Edge comes off it both players you know don't have the Vitality quite the same as they did earlier in the match and that matchup is interesting even at the back end of a match isn't it just physical ability of both of them to stay engaged that shot would not have been missed most likely at the beginning of the match 14 15 they're in probably the back end of a 12 of the 12th round in a 15 rounder aren't they in boxing terminology yes I like it starting to slow but the mind and heart still willing although I think it would make a big difference to get slammed into the body for 12 rounds I wouldn't like to find out no [Applause] G five games on what guts bti goo has you have to admire it 15 Mr B with the CH call on the right Baseline the balls called out it was an overall wasn't it by Maria CH and a good one she's a professional she's good mrti has one challenge the remaining thir to low once again just motoring through his service game new balls please well the atmosphere goes up electricity becomes a lot more apparent when sitz pass gets the early lead in the games here on his opponent serve oh he's got two points here here's the window of opportunity lights let's up well possibly should have gone forward there in retrospect he had a short ball on the back and he I thought he might come over the ball down the line which is what he tends to do Robbie isn't it but he he just chipped it back AC crosscourt and retreated that's where you got to be brave well he had the chance Retreat and was put on the back foot 1530 well you can understand the tension lagging deep into the court a little bit sits a pass and dropping the ball a fraction short Batista good is too good for that he will step in and use that forehand even in his tired state 14 what a time to serve your second double fault well surely he he sensed that sitz pass was going to try and attack there went for too [Applause] much after 3 hours and 4 minutes it's match point for it's a p [Music] nerves of Steel situp has played the point beautifully except for the last slice backand he could have won it here at any time this one he drops just too short there was nothing on it but nerves have still needed there to thread that down the line one match point [Music] saved line if he's wrong he's out of challenges for this game goes to tiebreak of course he'll get another one [Music] advantage Mr tias has no more challenges remaining three points well line iagree now what's it with Spaniards and replays of [Applause] points I don't know about you but for me on a first serve I think it's almost impossible for the call to hinder your shot I agree and I agree Roberto's argument I think even accentuated by the fact he said he hit the line so he's been hard done by there but he has got some Steely resolve that is undeniable TI bre both players received one additional challenge how does it affect you when you've had a match point you're so close and yet now you've got to go back and player tiebreaker F some players different than [Applause] others just winning the points on his own serve so comfortably so quickly sits a pass that's an advantage it could be a determining factor in this tiebreaker if he continues to get these fre points on serve can he continue to replicate in the tiebreaker what he's been able to do in a service games let's first up no oh wonderful athleticism at its best pass now this is not an easy smash at all all the hours of work that you put in the gym with a little bit of elevation sensation here down was that down one more and I don't say this lightly this is a 20-year-old's body you know to have all of that work in a 20-year-old is different to a 28y old impressive [Music] no come on on the right line the ball's called in if that's in this is almost the shot of the match for me under this pressure changing direction they were pounding the ball at each other he just changes Direction nonchalantly catches the line is it his day an oil painting of a backand a shot that he struggled with early on in this match has suddenly come good he's got two many breaks here [Music] 3 [Music] one t bu [Music] tell you what fitsy set a pass would give a a good chunk of his prize money right now for a first serve well I didn't really see those two points coming the way he's been serving you expected him to win at least one of them three love up no first serves just like that back on track tation warning Mr bsta it's just a warning that's Brave that's what he needs to do if he wants to get across the finishing line here I think so you've got to take you've got to go out and grab this with both hands and win it don't you in these situations you can't be too passive you're up against high quality opposition you got a to be [Applause] [Applause] bright Roberto Roberto hold on could you get this F please thank you there was a feather floating [Music] [Music] down there's a ticket to the party [Applause] perfect technique you can't see him losing two serves in a row again can you I can't 52 6 that's what he needed he's got four more match points stf a pass is throw to his first Grand Slam semifinal and what a battle it has been against Roberto Bautista good three hour and 15 minutes of high Octan tennis he's a winner
