coach on the road take you behind the scenes with the MLB stars of the game and I'm over here in the Astros locker room and I got the man for the Astros Chad how it doing good good how are you just fine you know I used to coach college baseball Scout for five major league teams every kid D playing in the big leagues you in the big leagues what's this feeling like oh it's amazing I mean it's kind of work what you work towards every single year and and um you know you never think you're going to make it to the big leagues you know I I mean I played a small division 2 school um I was a senior sign late round pick um you know even even getting drafted I was kind of like oh well you know I'm with the Houston Astros they got a great team obviously and I was kind of like I don't think I'll make it to the big leagues but I'm going to have fun doing this playing the minor leagues and then I uh played really well and and and moved up pretty fast and you know it's my fourth year in the big leagues I never thought I'd be here at this time and some guys think you guys get drafted you in the big leagues the next day they want understand to do what you got to pay yeah yeah there's there's a lot of work there's a lot of work you got to do man you got to earn you got to earn your strength in the big leagues definitely you play with a lot of veterans around the league you you know you you obviously in in in Pro in minor league baseball it's kind of like the same thing you're playing summer league you're meeting new friends you know it's not it's not as serious with winning and losing um you know you're kind of developing your game but you get to the big leagues it's it's all about winning and you got to watch you got to watch what you do and you got to put your head down at work every day I've always told my guys I'm a different high school college and pro ball is the game become quicker the competition become better and eliminate ons from the on you cannot yeah yeah I mean I'll tell you what this game um you got to slow the game down in the big leagues again in the minor leagues it's pretty easy to slow the game down um but in the big leagues you know everybody's kind of everybody has um you know scouting reports on yourself and they know what to throw you they know they know what you're good at what you're not good at and uh you have to be mindful of that because you got to be able to make adjustments in this game in minor leagues it's kind of easier to make adjustments in the big leagues you you got to slow it down and make adjustments so it's kind of like a chess game some you got to out guess the pitch and the pit got to out guess you that's the hardest I mean that's the hardest part about hitting I mean they you know the catcher and the Pitcher have a really good idea of what they're going to throw to you and and you have to know what they what they're going to do you have to watch film you have to do your homework you got to understand have an approach up there you can't swing at the whole plate you got to split the plate in half with those guys that are thrown east to west on you or north and south you know you have to it's a chess match like you said you have to you really have to know what um you know what you want to do up there and like kind of situational wise up there and and figure out what needs to be done and you know when you go to high school or you're in high school they just throw fast ball as a good power pitcher College you find out what slid is and change up is get into the big leagues any pitch any count you don't know what to expect yeah exactly I mean that's that's the hard part I mean I I you know in college and even even in the minor league in minor league baseball I could just cover the whole PL so I didn't have to have a nor uh a certain approach or I didn't have to um you know I didn't have to think as much but in the big leagues yeah you you you you have no idea what's coming and they can throw any pitch whenever they want and everything's so close around the plate that's what's tough you know in the minor leagues it's like if it's ball forward it's going to be way out of the Zone it's easy to see in the big leagues everything's going to be right around the plate so it looks like a strike out of the hand to these guys watch you guys on T the game looks so easy it looks so easy to hit major league pitching but it ain't like that no no it isn't like that it's really hard I mean there's just so many good players in this league that you know and and they f t tune tune themselves they they kind of like they make adjustments and they change they don't change as much but like they'll change the year and the year throughout and it's the guys that you know it's not that it's not that hard to make in the big leagues how long can you stay in the big leagues that's kind of like the toughest part you know how long do you want to stay in the big leagues cuz I'll tell you what man if you don't make judgments or you know you fall asleep a little bit and and think everything's just come to you it's it's a it's a mountain that you have to climb to the top and there's no top to it in the big Lees you know CU everyone's just as good as you and everyone's going to get better than you um so you always have to keep climbing first major league hit first major league hit I'll remember to this day um it was against the Athletics it was uh third game of the season Michael Brantley gets hit on hand so I get my chance to come in play The Outfield and um it was off a former a guy that used to play with ashers I used to play with him at Triple A his last name is Guan it was a left-hand pitcher and uh yeah I hit a double Off the Wall almost had a homer first first major league Homer then it was the next game then next game I got to play again we played um um it was like my third at bat in the game it was it was Runners on first and second and I hit it was 02 02 against petite he's a he's a veteran Rel lever for the Oakland Athletics he's not playing anymore but um he threw me a o02 cutter kind of away and I pulled it to left Center and it carried and and it was awesome feeling day one two you won't forget that all right last question real quick yeah you're walking into locker room for the very first time see your uniform hanging up what was that feeling like yeah I mean it I mean it's it's something special I mean even even my first pro ball game seeing like Astro uniform and all that stuff it was it was Unreal I remember taking a picture of him being super excited and then even um obviously in 2021 my rookie year just you know having the uniform all that stuff it was special coach with the man CM appreciate it thanks [Applause] [Music] lot this ball is
