for two weeks now we've been digging back through the history books and it's hard not to considering the dark past of kansas city's playoff games but today we're throwing these out three decades is a long time by any measurement but to measure the change here at highland springs you just need to look back we had some history tonight here the first ever meeting between logan rogersville and hillcrest happened tonight to start district football playoffs on this soggy and grassy field the first natural grass field hillcrest told me the hornets have ever played on and that slippery surface played a role right out of the gate now for the boys team this will be their first final four trip since 1986 but the difference this time around is at the other end of this hallway just mere feet away the girls team is preparing for their first final four trip ever at the exact same time he said he was already on to practice on monday a main after bill belichick's heart and according to that scoreboard back there much like the patriots a pretty dominant win tonight but hold on let's take it back during the race maximum security cuts over the lane bumps into the horses behind him and for the first time in race history the winner is disqualified for that the crown instead goes to underdog country house and crystal that is why i will never be betting on horse racing in my life so an one 60 years ago ranks high in her life accomplishments serving in world war ii stands out above the rest i was aviation machinist mate third class in the navy yes how long did you serve about two and a half years i when the war ended i got out carter was lucky enough to return from the war without major physical or mental struggle but not all veterans are as lucky it messes with people every day and there's no getting rid of it how do you how do you cure a memory of shooting somebody killing them and then pull their family's picture out of their pocket how do you cure that veterans like carter suffer a common problem rejoining society after service but each one found a similar place to conquer that right here on the tee box i've never seen an angry face out on the golf course everybody's laughing and having a good time it's all part of pga hope a program that invites veterans onto the course once a week for exercise fun and most importantly socialization with your own and you understand each other so that's the important thing and no issues with that and i love it but important programs like this one don't come free on july 20th river cut golf course is hosting a tournament to raise funds in hopes of reaching even more veterans than the dozens already involved if you google pga hope slash reach you'll see that there's somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 programs across the nation that's a drop in a bucket what it should be and with more funding would come more help and hopefully more laura carter's i'm bowling forget it no golf in springfield matt couldn't help but reflect on the darkest day i wanted to play in honor of acts because he's he was one of the most important people in my life tonight new at nine the willard community is mourning the sudden loss of a former student athlete and coach justin atchison played for willard's final four teams in 2012 and 2013. he came back to coach baseball and football he died november 10 2018 following a hunting accident attch was 24. the 2019 season was filled with emotion and the memory of atch motivated an historic year ending in a heartbreaking semifinal loss in the final inning in 2019 we thought we were going to get it for him and you know we were this close you know this close but i think that's kind of how life works you just got to keep working a little bit at a time and sometimes things break through the 2020 roster looked poised to provide that breakthrough ranked number one in the state with eight starters returning but kovid provided a roadblock the tigers couldn't break through leaving the large senior class with only summer ball and no shot at the title it's a season we've been looking forward to since middle school you know our senior year i always talked about going to state as the 2020 seniors graduated willard's 2021 roster went largely overlooked but that provided the final bit of motivation win it to prove people wrong win it to claim willard's first title but most important in their minds win it for ash and that is exactly what the tigers did what it should teach all of us as people is that our lives are meant to impact other people and uh and he did that this might be one of his most proud moments if not the most proud moment he's ever had in his life and i know up there he's just smiling bigger than ever probably from u.s baseball park matt facing ole miss early fourth quarter hogs down 17-3 but octavius cooley has the ball stripped out by cameron curl and curl picks it up and rumbles tumbles and kind of bumbles his way into the end zone for the scoop and score 17-10 razorbacks back in the game but just two minutes later ole miss strikes behind elijah moore his second touchdown catch of the day and the rebels top arkansas 31-17 now the evangel crusaders are back in ozark for the 2019 home opener crusaders went 5-1 at home last season and they know the key to making the nia naia playoffs this year is a perfect home slate it all gets started tonight as peru state came to town first crusaders drive zeke kuyawa going to go over the middle to hawken friend 22-yard score in the crusaders taking the lead second quarter tied at seven crusaders threatening kuyawa heading toward the end zone not the same luck this time picked off evangel denied the points defense tight all night long evangel would force a punt here snapped too good and of course you know the royals not the only kansas city team in florida this weekend chiefs taking on the jags tomorrow you know there i've been hearing a lot of people talking about the humidity maybe being an advantage for the jaguars you were at training camp this year though yeah yeah i mean saint joseph st joseph was pretty hot and beth's been talking about the weather that it's getting back in the 90s so it's not like the chiefs aren't used to right it's missouri we know how it is and speaking of weather when we come back beth will have one more look at our forecast here
