e e for for it's the National Football League on EA Sports where we'll see two of the NFL's oldest and most storied franchises it's the Green Bay Packers in the Philadelphia Eagles next on Madden football EA Sports coverage of the National Football League welcomes you to South America and one of the world's most populous cities vibrant Sal Pao in the Southeast region of Brazil great to have you with us in this Prime Time battle Mike too and GRE ol with you under the lights we'll be putting in the spotl the running backs these are two teams Greg with bats who can tote it and carry it and make guys miss they're going to give us a fun old school game on the ground here tonight yeah I think it's pretty cool Mike cuz I mean how many of these games have you and I done where we start out saying all right the quarterbacks the wide receiver these two electric passing games that's how these offenses are built but now we have a little bit of a throwback and for two teams that unapologetically say we are going to run our offense through the running back position we don't see that so often anymore so for two guys like us that understand and appreciate the Legacy and the history of this game I think it's kind of fun and he's down at the 23 and that's where the offense will take over here comes the pack and here comes Jordan love Fifth Season quarterback but Greg just his second as a starter waited his turn and had a really good first year as a starter took a little while for him to get his chance to be a full-time starter but once he got that shot He's just never looked back I mean Mike think he's always had that power for him he can push the ball up and down the field and make every throw imaginable but that time he spent on the sideline I think it ended up being a massive blessing in disguise he was able to work out his game from a mental and Technical standpoint with no pressure to play and now he's reaping all the bounds how about 25 yds to start the drive first down there's a reason certain guys might just always seem to be open It's really because route running is more art than it is science how do you manipulate the defense to find open spots or win verse Man to create separation and earn the trust of your quarterback this one is caught by Luke musr and they'll get about half of what they needed it's a pick up of five and sets up second and five I'm not sure what was the more difficult aspect of the play winning his route vers man coverage or catching this pass cuz that quarterback he put a little extra sauce on that one to get it there on time and he's able to secure a really nice catch go right back to musr he's got it again and they'll move this one down inside the 40 yd line well there's fast starts Mike and then there's this it just seems like it's completion after completion and now they find themselves in plus territory every team has their Fringe Red Zone down to their Red Zone plan and once you cross Midfield you got to be thinking six at the worst three but you're coming away with points and he'll be taken down rather swiftly after a gain of just [Applause] three they face second down and seven off the play fake here's love that's CAU right side it's the tight end musr these are the play calls Mike that offensive coordinators use to just get their quarterback and their passing game into some sort of Rhythm easy pitch and catch get the ball out of his hand see a completion these typically as the game goes on lead to bigger and bigger gains from the gun on third down it's love and he's going to have the first down it is a gain of six good conversion on third down well I think it's pretty clear what the week's plan was and that was to get the quarterback in a rhythm right out of the gate through the passing game they've essentially ignored the ground game up into this point you got to imagine as the game unfolds they'll sprinkle in some runs but so far it's been their a passing game to get this game started and that last one results in a first down he'll get four and down inside the 20 yd [Applause] line here's second and six from the gun it's love and the Packers are going to have a first goal coming up they try to finish off this drive with six points I love the way the ball's been moving around to different guys this drive Mike I mean it really keeps the defense guessing and off balance and now this defense is going to have to figure out how to keep this offense out of the end zone because it's first and goal the script going to plan so far chance for an early score now it's first and goal of the chg it's love and he's in Christian Watson touchdown Packers a terrific way to start this one not only a touchdown but a nice long march down the field makes it a long walk back to the bench for the defense Mike that's about as good as you can imagine starting a game offensively to be able to sustain that many plays and be able to cap it off with a touchdown that is a dream start for this offense point after try fourth [Applause] coming the kick is good and the Packers will take a seven nothing lead [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] the kickoff team is out on the field and we're back to it as the kicks away this will be returned from the six and they'll bring him down just shy of the 30 yd line the Eagles let out by their quarterback and he is the leader of this offense Jaylen Herz has that calm demeanor about him can make the big plays as well Greg H he is already in his fifth year in the NFL this is someone who just seems like every year they just get better and better Mike right I mean think back whether it was Alabama to Oklahoma to being a Heisman finalist going from a backup rooll to MVP candidate his development has been fun to watch and now he's universally considered one of the best all round quarterbacks in the league and if they want to leave here with the win they're going to need him to be just that and he'll work forward for about three it's second down [Applause] they'll stay on the ground with Barkley and the defense good job sticking to their rules they didn't take their eyes off the running back who gains nothing coming off that edge Mike you have to quickly determine is this a pass or is it a run and once he realized it was a run he's able to shed his blocker make the play no game on third down here's hers I got this one complete to G and he's down inside the 40 yd line now they've come out swinging here on this opening drive through the air and that's exactly what they wanted to do generate some early chunk plays and try to get some [Music] points first and 10 now from the 36 [Applause] running from the pistol with Barkley the hold closes quickly he'll pick up about [Music] three second and seven to throw is Herz he's got the 2021 Heisman with that's Devonte Smith so they have these rules for the receivers Mike they call them green grass rules and the idea is if you're running across the field and you're looking at the quarterback you're going to stay on the run if you're not looking at the quarterback that tells him I'm going to sit in this soft zone I'm going to what they call punch and pivot and stop and that tells the quarterback to put the ball on your chest that nonverbal communication between the receiver and the quarterback recognizing when you're open stay open that's the stuff that makes a lot of these offenses so difficult to defend y they're at the 17 yd line now for first and 10 from the shotgun it's Herz and that's incomplete they couldn't connect and that's how this first quarter will come to an end we are through one it's the Packers on top we'll have more from South America and beautiful Sal paollo after [Applause] this we try try again it's second and 10 Again Herz and that's going to be incomplete coverage was good that time the contact jarring the ball loose and forcing third down he's usually such a reliable Target in the passing game Mike we just don't see him struggle to come down with catches like that all too often and when you're one of the go-to guys on your team I know the hits coming but guess what it feels a lot better after you take that hit after a catch than it does after a drop this one is caught by doson and he will not quite get to the marker good job there defensively and now decision time what are you going to do on fourth down when you're willing to throw the ball short of the sticks on third down you know what that tells me Mike the decision to go for it on fourth down has already been made if you're able to pick it up with yards after the catch great but if not it's a fourth and short and you give yourself a realistic shot of converting on this fourth down and he's not going anywhere stuff behind the line they have turned it over on Downs well that play had no chance from the start the running back was not even able to make it back to the original line of scrimmage give credit to that defensive line that was an incredible effort forcing that fourth down stop Jordan love the rest of the Packers offense ready for their next possession they'll have a long field ahead of them as they start first and [Applause] 10 that is must grave The Man in Motion love to throw it on on first down and he's going to be brought down up past the 20 well so often we see quarterbacks standing in the pocket holding it seeing if they can create something downfield well not that play that play was simple snap the ball to the quarterback spit it out into the hands of your receiver and let's see what he can do they'll come up here first and 10 a run up the middle of Jacobs and that's not going to the whole line up to only about the [Applause] 23 Second down and eight a good play action with love he'll be hit as he throws this time and it's going to fall incomplete he might be fortunate just to avoid the sack and it'll set up a third down the whole idea of the playaction pass mik is that you can slow the pass rush down enough that it allows longer slower developing pass Concepts to open up downfield but in this case they were on him so fast that by the time he got his head around that ball needed to come out there was no timing and ultimately LED in an incompletion that's a pair of hookups on this drive this one goes for 14 yds and a first down so far here early Mike the key for this offense has been their ability to maintain possession by converting on these third Downs it's going to be a big storyline the rest of the way this defense has to find a way when they force third down they got to get off the [Applause] field that ball flutters to the ground it's incomplete well fortunate there wasn't a Defender right there in the area could have been a turnover instead it brings up second down so defensively there's always the initial pass coverage plan and then when that breaks down and the quarterback goes into scramble mode how fast can you then move on to the second phase and what they call plaster meaning find the nearest receiver and almost play him manto man and it's exactly what they did here and there was nowhere for the ball to go and he's forced to just throw it away that was just a race to the edge and in this case Mike he just wasn't the winner I mean at this point when the defense is out there waiting for you it's tough for any runner in this league to even get back to the original line of scrimage the Man in Motion is [Applause] Watson he gets that complete as he hits Reed and he'll be taken down but it takes them across Midfield down to the 40 yd line following the completion will get a stoppage here for an injured player as the athletic training staff looks at him we'll step away for a [Applause] [Applause] m they'll come up first and 10 at the 40 [Applause] is love toward the middle that one caught by Watson and he'll be taken down at the 25 yd line you can see this connection is just starting really to pick up they're seeing the game through the same set of eyes and that is the job of the receiver what is my quarterback expecting from me where does he want me be there on time and a leads to Big gains like this here's first and 10 they'll run it straight ahead with Jacobs he'll be stopped after a pickup of about three the rookie quinan Mitchell up to make the play defensively [Applause] on play action love and that's going to be incomplete coverage was good that time the contact jarring the ball loose and forcing third down a rare Miss for a quarterback that we've seen really come out on fire throughout this entire contest I mean his completion percentage Mike is well above League average and frankly it's really the biggest reason why they find themselves out front that ball is caught on the sidel and both feet in bounds a big third down pick up for a first down and this is the blueprint Mike the ability to sustain and maintain possession and methodically move the ball down the field in the process they've been in complete control they've been able to dictate what they want to do offensively and make the defense react the defense has had no answers up until this point and now the next step is can they come away with six because anything less than that after that one taken in Christian Watson touchdown Green Bay he's got another one his second touchdown of the evening it seems to me they were kind of holding this play call for this exact situation Mike first and goal down here near the goal line and they had this one worked up all week simple pitch and catch and it works to perfection [Applause] now the extra [Applause] point he gets it to go and the Packers move out on top 14 to nothing [Applause] both teams ready to go once more as the kicks away on the return it's Kenneth gainwell and he'll be brought down just beyond on the 25 yd line the Eagles offense about ready to get going on their second possession they're staring at a two touchdown deficit 14- nothing the score as the offense tries to regroup and get going with first and 10 [Music] [Applause] a shotgun snap now to Herz that's caught saquan Barkley and he will not get away terrific open field tackle gets him down behind the line so after the loss on first here's second and 14 operating from the gun here's Herz open man downfield is Smith and they're going to move the ball all the way up to the 45 yd line and this is why most teams mik decide to take the ball first after the halftime break because they want to be able to control this middle four at the end of the first half you can use your timeouts you can use some strategy to steal an extra possession they're able now to go down and Come Away with points they'll have a chance to double it up again right after the halftime break so as halftime looms Mike they have to find a way to capitalize on this drive right here and make sure they end the half with some sort of points now that incompletion not ideal but at the very least it stops the clock catch your breath get back in the Huddle and this next play it's got to be a got to have it best play call that's his third catch of this first half and good enough for a first down and that's what you call being Fearless going over the middle that's not everybody's cup of tea in this league Mike some guys love to operate outside the numbers and some guys understand their role is in the middle of the field and not only to make that catch but to do it laying out that's a big time play to secure that one to the air again Herz he'll get this complete that's AJ Brown give him 12 on that one they are on the mark another first down you find yourself in these TW minute drills Mike they're pretty critical moments in the game they go a long way to deciding the outcome so it makes a lot of sense you start looking for your top Target and he comes through for him there right back to Brown he's got it again he's going to be marked down at the 12 yd line [Applause] [Music] set to go now on First and 10 hers will try it [Applause] again that's to the endzone but they can't connect it's incomplete Devonte Smith the intended receiver and it'll bring up second down that's one he'd love to have back an opportunity to score six was right there for the taking just wasn't quite meant to be Herz again and he's going to be taken down sacked back at the 17 yd line that last sack is exactly why defensive coaches preach over and over just play the next down just continue to make them snap the ball again you're one big defensive play from changing everything about this drive and but once looked like a promising Drive following that sack looks a little bit different [Applause] now so backed up after the sack and now it's third and long to throw is Herz this one caught just past the pylon AJ Brown touchdown Eagles this is one of those cases Mike where the play caller understands I got three points in my back pocket there's no need here to be conservative let's keep this drive alive and see if we can come away with a touchdown but instead of just trying to pick up the first down they go for the big one and it's a perfect throw great catch and They Come Away with [Applause] six Elliot good on the extra point and the Eagles are on the board it's now [Music] 14-7 and [Music] the victory still a little time final minute of this first half we'll see if they can do anything with this kickoff that is coming their way and it'll be brought down past the 25 decent field position to start this drive Packers offense going to take take over here in the final minute of this first half they lead by a touchdown as this drive begins with first and [Applause] 10 now love [Applause] that'll be caught it's Josh Jacobs and he's brought down after a gain of six on first down they'll come up now for second down and four love to throw this one is caught by Reed and they'll whistle him down but not before it picks up a first down after a gain of seven [Applause] here's [Applause] love and this one is PED in what a grab and he's got another one Christian Watson touchdown Packers what a half he is putting together that's his third touchdown already this is turning into a monster game let's keep an eye on this three touch catches alone in the first half could be a record setting [Music] game an extra point attempt to follow the kick is good and the Packers will take a 21-7 lead [Music] [Music] [Applause] they didn't leave much time on the clock to put together a drive here at the end of the first half and the kickoffs coming their way a safe kick taken at the five and he's brought down right at the 25 yd line the Eagles offense going to get it one last time here late in the opening half they Trail by two touchdowns so time is now got to get that rally going it starts with first and 10 [Applause] and they're just going to run it here up the middle and they'll bring him down around the 27 yd line Preston Smith there to bring him down so we are at halftime here in sou Paulo in the NFL International series as we head 4,275 mil to be exact back North to Orlando say hello to our friend the coach Jonathan Coachman as the EA Sports halftime report all right Mike thanks very much and welcoming everyone to our halftime report the highlights are fairly one-sided to this point it's a two touchdown difference here at the break but I wouldn't call this one over just yet I think there could still be some fireworks Yet to Come coach thank you back here on EA Sports as we countdown to the kickoff of the second half pretty interesting first half we'll see if any strategy changes for the next 30 minutes or more as this second half gets underway and he's brought down right at the 35 yd line the Eagles offense going to have a first crack in it as we begin this third quarter they'll start it here with a first and 10 [Applause] [Applause] on the ground it's Barkley to start the drive and this rough day on the ground continues they're going to drop him behind the line again with the struggles they had running the ball in the first half Mike it makes sense that they're trying here early in the second to get this ball carrier going but this last Run's not going to do him any favors another Rush another loss of yards a second down throw for Herz and that's going to be incomplete coverage was good that time the contact jarring the ball loose and forcing third down for the most part he's been very accurate with the ball I mean he's completing over 60% of his passes but because they haven't been able to get any big explosive Place continue to push the ball down field hasn't really translated on the scoreboard just yet on third down it's hurts that one caught by Smith and he's down inside the 40 yd line whatever they've talked about in the locker room at the halftime break seems to have worked they've come out with a new established energy you could see it when they took the field now this offense seems to be building on it because with that chunk play just a little bit of Rhythm that they can build off of they got a long way to go to get back into this game but so far off to a good start now a first and 10 from the 38 yd line [Applause] hers and he can't hang on through the contact it's incomplete what a good job defensively to meet him just as the ball was arriving and it'll be second down I got high standards for offensive players but in this case Mike I think I'm giving all the credit to the defender he timed that one up perfectly and what could have been an easy play ends up as an incomplete now Jaylen Herz on second down he'll let this go deep for the end zone that is going to be H in he's got it Devonte Smith touchdown Philadelphia so they take the shot downfield and it is caught in the end zone for a touchdown what a big play that is Greg absolutely Mike and the key to a play like this is when the ball travels this far in the air they teach you don't look back look up because that's where the ball will be and in this case he was able to secure it and come away with a big touchdown Elliot on now for the P he's got it and the Eagles draw closer here it's 21 to 14 [Applause] [Music] down [Music] Victory so following the score Here Comes Elliot to kick this one away for the return it's kesan Nixon and this will work out quite well he'll get it all the way out to the 30 yd line the Packers offense and quarterback Jordan love heading back out there and we show you some of the highlights and there have been plenty to choose from three touchdown passes and some other big time throws as well certainly dialed in on top of his game right throughout this one [Applause] a fresh set of downs to work with it is first down and [Applause] 10 from the gun it's love this one on target it's do he may go and he's going to take miss all the way to the house 70 yds touchdown Green [Applause] Bay a terrific job all the way around especially after the catch Greg to take it to the end zone for a touchdown I'm just so impressed by the acceleration of this receiver Mike he catches what is a short pass and he's able to turn it up the field and take it all the way for six that is an impressive play run after catch the kicking team off for the extra [Applause] point it's up and good and the pack [Music] [Music] to it as the kicks away now return coming from the seven now an opening has the 30 and brought down right at the 35 yd line Devonte Smith and the rest of the Philly offense heading back onto the field they'll do so with first and 10 [Applause] from the shotgun it's Herz over the middle to his tight end G and they'll get about four here as he is taken down as a route Runner once you identify Zone coverage like they were playing here the key is find open space and stay in it he did a nice job here cuz that was not a big hole back had to put a little extra on that one and they were able to make the completion on second down hers the open receiver is doson and he'll be taken down the gain is six and it's a new set of down he picked up the first down recognizing the blitz is just the first step in the process for a quarterback understanding who you can account for with the protection and then who you can't account for that's where your hot receiver comes in he points to his receiver who the defender they hot off of that guy comes gets the ball out of his hand and results in a completion he's going to air this one out looking for doson he'll be hit as he throws and that one will wind up incomplete could not step into the throw that time it'll bring up second down I know it fell for an incompletion but pretty impressive he was able to push that ball really far down field as he was being hit really says a lot about the arm strength that this quarterback [Applause] has a DOD and a CCH incredible hers and brown connect and it's a first down for Philip with wide receivers I think we spend so much time by talking about their speed and their route running and of course that's critical but the ability to not only catch the ball but to concentrate on the bad throws we used to have a saying you get paid to catch the bad ones and saw a great example of it here laying out going down to get this ball holding on through contact with the and he's going to have to eat this one as down he goes they teach these defensive ends to rush to the X the x is the spot where the quarterback stops his drop and you can see when he hit that back foot he had nowhere to go and he's able to break him down for a big sack work to do now as they come up on second and [Applause] long now it's Herz that's to the left side and taken in by Smith following the completion we'll get a stoppage here for an injured player athletic training staff looking at him so will step [Applause] [Applause] aside here's third and two they'll try to run here with Barkley and he's going to have an eagles first down as they get five on third and2 nothing real fancy about this call here Mike right in this third and short just get the ball to your running back make sure he has enough space to pick up the first down and they're able to convert so they come to the line for first down and 10 B in motion is brown [Applause] and no chance to turn and go that one good for just a [Music] couple look him up on a second down and eight Herz off he goes and he will get into the end zone jayen Herz touchdown Eagles Greg sometimes we say it too often that was an important drive that one really felt important for them to Edge a little bit closer yeah now the question is Mike yeah the offense does their job but can the defense get a stop they've got to continue to get the ball back to their offense let them build on that previous drive cuz they've still got some work to do [Applause] here's Elliot for the extra point he knocks it through and the Eagles are back to within seven it's 28-21 [Music] so following the score Here Comes Elliot to kick this one away on the return here's Jaden Reed he work his way across the 25 yd line the Packers offense and their quarterback back set to take the field once more and he has been a nightmare to scheme against throughout this one this defense has been picked aart that is borne out in those impressive numbers he has been terrific all game long in motion bre a go play action with low he's going to tuck it and go and he slides and covers up at the end avoids the hit and picked up decent yardage along the way take a look at his eyes you can see the quarterback clearly going through all of his progressions and he's quick to realize there's nowhere to go with this ball he makes the right decision and gets out of there picks up some good yardage and gets down on the ground the man in most is Watson off the play fake here's love that's caught right side it's the tit and musr a gain of 17 yds first down Packers there's no more efficient play in the NFL mic than the playaction passing game and you can see here why you make the defense have to honor both the run and the pass and he's able to pick up a nice game to his tight end it's a three tight end look as they have it first and [Applause] 10 to throw is love short pass taken in by the tight end and he's not going to get too far tackled after a gain of just a yard really well done here by the defense Mike executing this zone defense and they've got to be able to pattern read you're not just going to drop back to a spot and just play like a robot based on what the receivers do off the line the Defenders have different rules of where their zones move to well they had that one dialed in right from the jump and they were able to stop that play really before it got started and that is going to do it for this third quarter of play so we are through three back with more of the NFL International series after this first and [Applause] 10 out of the shotgun it's love over the middle he fits it into dos really nice timing on that slant route we can tell the quarterback and the wide receiver are completely on the same page and when executed at at that level it's virtually impossible to stop second and a yard running is Jacobs and he's fighting to try to get back to the line of scrimmage but will not do it this is going to be a loss of a yard you know at this point the defense has to sell out and stop the run you know exactly what the offense is trying to get accomplished by keeping the ball on the ground but now the question remains are they willing to take some risk here and put the ball in the air on third down or do they play it safe and keep running the clock by keeping the ball on the ground here's a screen taken in by Jacobs and they're going to get this all the way down inside the bo Big Time completion right there and this isn't just a spot where they're trying to run the game out here in the fourth quarter they were not only trying to pick up points but they're trying to get in the end zone and extend this lead so really nice job here late see if they can put this one out of reach an opportunity for what could be a game ceiling touchdown right here first down and goal here's Jacobs and he's into the end zone that might be the knockout punch just Jacobs touchdown Green Bay everything you want to do right there Greg in the fourth quarter get the ball with the lead and extend it to a two-score Advantage yeah and I think this just might end up being too much to overcome you said it once you get a two-score lead this late in the fourth quarter there's just not enough possessions to be had to claw yourself back in it now the try for an extra point he's got and the Packers will open it up even further here in this fourth quarter [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] both teams ready to go once more as the kicks away this one taken at the seven and he'll be taken down right at the 29 yd line the Eagles offense getting their final instructions before heading back onto the field they'll start out first down and 10 [Music] [Applause] a shotgun snap now to Herz open man left side is brown he's got it outbreaking routes Mike especially outside of the numbers everything is about the timing if you're late with the throw you're going to be watching that defensive back take that thing the other way for six second down and [Applause] three they'll run he'll get this close to the first down marker taken down just shy at the [Music] [Applause] 38 third and a yard little short pass here caught by his tight end a gain there of 11 first down Philadelphia and this is a tricky part of the game for any defense you find yourself protecting a late lead and the age old question is do you remain aggressive do you try to just keep the ball from being thrown over your head and make everything be tackled and played in front of you that's what every defensive coordinator struggles with so they can't get too soft here as they try to hold on to this lead here [Applause] late hers to the air on first down that's taken in right side by GD it's not the big play they were hoping for but first down efficiency staying ahead of the chains is what every offense is trying to find and it brings up a manageable second down here's a second and [Applause] six operating from the gun here's hers yeah and they'll work this close to a first down maybe just a tad [Applause] short don't need much it is third and inches he's got his man it's Smith they pick up 17 through the air good for an eagles first down okay so now you pick up that first down Mike but now there needs to be a sense of urgency you know you need to score twice so this one ideally for the offense results in a touchdown but either way this first score of the two needed needs to be fast the pass rush gets home and he goes down the offense goes from feeling really good about the previous play with a real nice pickup to then on the ensuing play ending up going the complete opposite direction really nice job here by the defense immediately getting back on track what do the coaches say just play the next play and that's exactly what they did to throw on second down is Herz quick slant into the hands of Smith well they'll get some of the sack yardage back but it's still going to leave them with third down thir throwing is hers he'll try and get there on the ground and he's going to be taken down and that will take us to the two-minute warning first down they'll drop to throw that is caught by the tight end and Dallas G touchdown Philadelphia well that was step one the offense did their job get this thing back within one possession so they're still alive but now they've got to find a way to get a little bit of luck and find a way to get the ball back and it's not going to be easy Elliot now for the extra point his kick is good and the Eagles back within seven it's 35 28 [Music] [Applause] [Music] Victory so following the score Here Comes Elliot to kick this one away here's Nixon on the return he'll get across the 20 Mark him down at the 23 yd line the Packers offense and their quarterback headed out for their next possession and this defense might be about ready to wave the white FL nothing they have tried to throw at him has been successful he just processes things so quickly making the right read seemingly every time operating from their own 23 they'll begin first and 10 on the ground it's Jacobs to start the drive and he finds a little bit of space he'll take this forward for a gain of four [Applause] here's second and [Applause] six he'll stay on the ground with Jacobs and it'll be brought down shy of the 35 but that is good enough to move the sticks I don't think so no no no no I don't think so no no no no it's never ever ever ever
