A reflection on the Michael Leunig poem "Love is Always Born"

hi there my name is joe nicholson welcome to my channel remembering love this is a channel where we explore the subjects of healing childhood trauma cpf ptsd i'll get that right one day and all the various things in between so if you're new to this channel um and you like that kind of content you click on the like and subscribe button if you're not new welcome back now this is a little bit of an impromptu video as you can see i haven't shaved for it which i normally try to do i look look a little less uh what's the word for it but but disheveled i think that's the word sorry not bedraggled i don't know but draco's a word um and i just for whatever reason i came across the poem of michael lunig i've got one of his books here he's a famous cartoonist and syracuse satirist philosopher um and political commentator in australia he's been doing cartoons for age paper for a long time in australia i think he's just recently been sacked for a controversial kind of covert cartoon that he did on his personal thing but that's another story today i would just like to share this poem which i think is particularly relevant for anyone recovering from trauma and just anyone in this world in this life and it's a very simple poem i'm going to read it out to you i'm going to explain to you why i really like it and why i think it's just a really beautiful meaningful simple truth the poem goes love is born with a dark and troubled face when hope is dead and the most unlikely place love is born love is always born um yeah very simple very straightforward in a dark and troubled place love is always born and this has really been a a truth that i've seen throughout my life i've seen throughout the light of many other people that in the midst of tragedy tribulation hardship immense agony and suffering love is born love finds a place to kind of grow and it's an amazing and astounding thing to kind of witness in my own life and the lives of others that no matter how dark a place can get love has this way of just finding a place to take root it has this kind of inconquerable immeasurable power that no matter how dark it gets there's always a little bit of space there if you let it in and you allow it for something to grow it's kind of like the uh you know the little weed or little flower that kind of appears in the in the concrete and even if you stamp it out it appears somewhere else it just has this ability to kind of find a place to kind of take root and i think it's very humbling and very beautiful to kind of witness that to be aware of that and just i think mostly just to kind of remember that to remember that feeling that no matter how dark it gets in this world in our own personal lives that love is always born love is continuously being born over and over again and yeah i think it's just worth remembering that because i think we you know we can get lost a little bit in you know the struggles and how bad things are and you know it's not taking away the fact that they are bad in many ways but in the midst of that badness that darkness that difficulty love takes root love is born over and over every day it's born and you know i feel like it's one of these things that whether we like it or not you know love will just get us in the end or we can run we can hide but eventually it will track us down and we'll capture us and we will be at its mercy so why not surrender why not just admit defeat that in the end love will eat me consume me digest me grind me bake me whatever term you want to give it and you know it's it's pointless to surrender otherwise and what a beautiful thing to surrender to to surrender to the love that's in our heart to surrender to the love that's in other people the love that's in this world that for all the craziness of politics and business and war when everything is said and done all those things all pass away and that love will remain i believe that i really do believe that when it's all said and done it's the only thing really that that carries on that has a kind of an immortality to it and it's not a possessive love or it's not love that's mine it's just the love the primary love of that runs and moves the universe and life through other dimensions through other worlds whatever it may or may not be that that causal nature of love is something that is unstoppable and why would we want to stop it why wouldn't we just want to line ourselves up with it surrender to it be at its mercy and live our lives accordingly so yeah this was just a very small video that i wanted to just remind you remind myself that love is always born always born and what a great thing to to be aware of to celebrate and to remember thank you for watching this video if you've enjoyed this video or this you have any comments about this please put in the like and subscribe put it in the like and subscribe click like and subscribe and put something in the comments section so take care and bye
