welcome to the heart of sooner Nation Gaylord family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium and if you aren't familiar with the saying Boomer Sooner you will be soon enough we have a ranked versus unranked battle coming up here and you know how chaos can ensue if they start smelling an upset as we'll see a squad from the AAC the tempo Al taking on the 14 rank team in the land the Oklahoma Sooners glad to have you with us for EA Sports college football I'm Rees Davis David poock and Jesse Palmer with me in the booth guys we are ready to tee it [Applause] up and the Sooners will kick it away to [Applause] start returner will field it and try to get some field position and the coverage team able to wrestle him down so the Temple Owls return team didn't help matters out much there there he is the man who makes everything go and they believe they're going to score every time they touch it when he's on the field Jesse he plays with unbelievable confidence for he always knows where to go with the football the entire Playbook is at this guy's disposal yeah which is so much fun for a coach so much fun to play with him a guy that can do everything everybody on the field is active in a weapon Temple lines up quickly the give is to Smith and he's almost to that first down marker there saying he's a little bit short they might want to bring out the sticks and measure but it looks as if he'll be just short of the first down this crowd going to try to make life miserable for these guys he'll do it himself the ball is out behind the line he's got the ball and he'll try to pick up a few deep breath right man you you fumble that thing you cough it up you're like oh I really appreciate you brother I can't tell you how much I thank you because the coach would have been all over me but Big Time Break for the offense CH are set and Temple has it with another first and 10 to the ground with the back defense in the right spot they stop him after a gain of two to the 28 and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs after picking up a couple at second and eight the give to the running back from the shotgun he make the stop after a gain of three to the 31 better find the earplugs here comes the noise backing this defense on third down back to throw it's [Applause] Brock fires down field he just missed the Target on that one got to put it on his body and how loud is it in this building this is crazy this these fans are going absolutely nuts and I used to love when the fans got involved and I'm on defense because it messes with the snap count it messes with the communication and it can really rattle an offense Tempo lining up to punt it away first time we've seen their punt team this afternoon running it back it's Bowen and the coverage team gets the returner on the ground so Oklahoma offense has the ball for the first time as we take a look at our impact players for this game David what do you look for to make an impact from your leaders your leaders not only have to lead the football team but they got to step up and make plays on the field keep everybody calm these guys typically do a really good job of it yeah David and they also generally set the tone for their respective football teams regardless of which side of the ball they play on the teammates look towards them to step up in big games like [Applause] this the Sooners will hustle to the line [Applause] [Applause] lost to throw on first down off the play fake flushed out of the pocket quarterback tried to scramble around for a while but the defense able to bring him down you used to play action to try to slow down the rush make the defense hesitant in that case they weren't hesitant at all no they weren't and it was a nice job with respect to effort on defense you saw guys engaged oneon-one they got dud some blocks lots of speed in the front of that defense you saw it on that play he'll try to keep that sack from Wrecking this drive here on second and 15 wants to throw it's Arnold throws to the back and the pass is incomplete Jarred Loose by the hit looked like the offense had a chance for a big play there but the running back just could not reel that ball in this is a third and long he's looking downfield to throw and it's caught inside the 30 touch down sooner and once he found open space the band might as well start playing the sooner Schooner doesn't have a tight turning radius but it can rev up the Oklahoma crowd David get them started get them going early test the limits get in the end zone get these people going bananas just safely you know go bananas go crazy but you know don't do too much and don't you know fall over in your seats lining up to attack one more onto that lead and the extra point makes it seven nothing quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and the score comes courtesy of the big play covering 61 yd on the touchdown pass they lining up to boot it away on the run from inside zone five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 Temple takes over and the offense will return to the field David the punter got some work last time they'd like to keep him on the sidelines in this drive yeah it's not something you want to say very often you don't want the punter out there this offense needs to get back lathered up and get a little bit more of a rhythm best way to do that identify where your best players are and just get them the football give these guys some touches to Kickstart this offense didn't help themselves much on first down let's see what they've got on second down from the 20 the give to the tailback they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and it's a great play by the defensive end the most athletic players on the field play defensive end Yes you heard me Jess Reese exactly what I said great get off great job getting the Back Field making the play Deb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down looking to throw and he needs a chunk play safe completion on the screen defense was not Fool by that screen to the back and they'll stop him short of the marker it'll be fourth down so you didn't pick up the first down on the short game but will the analytics sway them to go for it here on fourth down I think the analytics say go for it Reese every single time every situation now it's only one yard to go short yard situation man I'm going to trust I can get that yard he couldn't find much Running Room there didn't get a lot of blocking and he'll step out of bounds now the Oklahoma offense will go back to work boy David they would love to stack another touchdown on top of that last drive and this offense did such a good job on the last Drive everything in Rhythm moved the ball down the field didn't make those mistakes Jesse and they need to do it again on this one yeah you're right they had the defense on their heels you wonder what sort of communication was going on that sideline what sort of changes were they able to make cuz they got to stop the bleeding right now out of the gun the inside K and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage that DB had a different story he had something to say coming up making a physical tackle the Sooners come to the line in the hurry up looking to throw it's Arnold fires to the wide out got him down field finally run out of bounds but he has this hop rolling with a first down and listen the defense knew coming into this one they were going to Target him early and often he is a weapon and there's no mystery where the quarterback's going to be looking on critical down and distances let's see how they able to cover him throughout the rest of this [Applause] game off the play fake on first down moving keeping the eyes down field they'll force him out of bounds after a solid pick up on the play and I think this is important for this defense this will be a big key in the football game like I got to limit the damage from that guy because that that's a QB that's Dynamic and he can make so many big play I got to string him out I got to make him get to the sideline but I will say this I do want to hit him at the end of the runs I don't want to let him out of bounds and let him get free carries I want it to be physical run the gun running back gets to give tackled after picking up the first down that's a nice run this guy has it all doesn't it he has speed he has shiftiness and he has power the power reminds me of an old great sooner running back Marcus ji arguably one of the most gifted Runners college football has ever seen a guy that didn't quite pan out at the NFL level because of injuries this dude has it in him though and I'm sure he's reminding a lot of people in the stadium right now of good old Marcus J he make the stop inside the 25 working closer to that Red Zone a gain of six line of scrimmage will be the 24 well it's plays like that that will help this offense stay in Rhythm all game long if you can have that kind of success on first down running the football it just opens opens up your entire Playbook moving [Applause] forward softened him up with a run and now to throw it's complete to the left and he's brought down after a nice game this defense now is just getting gashed and if you're the defensive coordinator you might now want to think about being aggressive changing up your play calls and maybe breaking your own Tendencies because you have got to stop this offense just marching down the field and the have it with a first and 10 quarterback on the keeper they pick up half of it it'll be second and five and this option attack can low you to sleep sometimes I me just so many things they can do off of it and you just got to play responsibility responsibility and you got to get them on the ground and make tackles and that was a good job limiting the damage on that play with a nice tackle the Sooners to crank the [Applause] tempo On The Run it's Arnold quick strike complete that throw and catch gets him down to the six and the defense is running out of answers that's a good job by the drag outout there understanding it Zone coverage so instead of continuing to run across the field he settles down into an open spot making it easy for his quarterback the terrain gets rough this deep in the Red Zone third down they can pick up the first without scoring looking to throw for it they will score touchdown Oklahoma this offense is really dangerous because of the weapons they have on the perimeter of the field and you're seeing they go to these guys early and they try to give them opportunities in oneon-one situations and vertically down the field passing touchdowns now early for this offense he'll try to tack on one more and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead 9yd touchdown drive and they get it into the end zone with a 6yd touchdown pass the kickoff team on the field as they'll send this one away fielded In The End Zone it's Jones not nearly as much as he' hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 Temple takes over and the owl will send the offense back onto the field the last time we saw this offense we had to look quick it was a three and out Jesse he just had no rhythm in that last drive so someone's going to have to step up and make a play David and get this thing going yeah let's find some juice find your guy find those plays that you know you can run inside out forward backwards get some first downs get some positive momentum solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six looking for space it's Cruz got it across the 20 and out to the 23 a pick up of four I think that was an example of the offensive coordinator trying to help out his quarterback he's trying to keep these third Downs manageable you know you throw the ball on second down and it's incomplete now you've set up third and long and now you're set up to fail Here Comes This Home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down they'll try to move the chains on the ground and they'll bring him down but not before he picks up the first down you wonder now on offense have they found something in the Run game finally it's been tough for them to get the Run game going but they picked up a nice gain on that last one let's see if they go back to it and the owls are in the hurry up from the gun the ground game and he knock him down after he picks up five out to the 34 four I like this guy as a running back because he can run between the tackles and he can also go outside he can really do it all halfway there on first down it's second and five from the gun they'll try to impose their running game BS his way to the 41 and that is pun to give him a first down well the offense knew what they needed to get that first down so they dial up the running play and they get just enough to keep the drive alive the owls are moving quickly down the field off the play fake on first down to throw oh he's ready to take a shot and they won't make the connection looking to make a big play there I think it's really hard to overthrow that guy he is already that fast and he breaks open and you have an opportunity just to just Club up a little bit just just put a little bit more air underneath that and let the speeder run underneath it and make you look like a hero but oh boy it's kind of the opposite and they drag him down but not before he picks up the first down I love when players understand situations and they understand where the first down marker is and they understand where I got to get a lot people you'll see run north south and try to bounce out wide and make big plays sometimes it's not about making big plays sometimes it's about getting that first down to make sure I get an extra set of downs instead of trying to make those big touchdown runs moving the running back trying to get the D to tip its hand oh he should have had that one right in his hands and he couldn't hang on typically he makes that play it'll be second down and that's why these guys play def if that were an offensive player receiver that would have easily have been a catch come on man you got to catch that and make that a pick now on second down after the incompletion they're going to test the right side with this one he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three it's amazing how play by a defensive end in the back field can really swing the momentum not only of a series but of a game sometimes trying to do is create negative plays to get them behind the sticks a little bit to get those sacks to get those tackles for the losses you see so much stunting in college football up front with the defensive line because you know once you get one of those plays and there was nowhere to go for this quarterback and down he goes that is a gut punch if you're the offense because they're in dime Personnel they're only rushing four guys you've got five offensive linemen you've got the option of bringing other people in to help give your QB time this offense not good enough Temple lining up to punt it away let's see if he can help the coverage team out with this [Applause] one he'll get it out to about the 20 yd line and that's where they'll Mark him down time for this sooner offense to go back to work David they' love to do what they did last time and put this one in the end zone you ain't lying they did a great job the offense was clicking everything went well Palmer they executed and got the touchdown and they really were in a nice Rhythm as well and I'd love to see that here on the next drive too just keep doing what you're doing everything seems to be working and you seem to have this defense on their heels the Sooners want to pick up the tempo going to run it it's off Chuck he'll push his way out to the 38 pick up of three I'll tell you this is a running back who's very very dangerous and the defense did a good job getting him down there but they got to do a great job gang tackling because this is a guy that can break tackles and turn those types of plays into home runs ball sitting right at the 30 it'll be third and short they'll try to get the first through the air caught near the sticks it's burs he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense and on that third and short I don't think he was unhappy to see that zone nope it was a great job by the offense hey see where the holes in the zone are sit down you only need a little bit of yards on this third down get the conversion move the sticks [Applause] quick release on the RPO they make the Stop and that will likely bring us to the end of the first quarter we reached the quarter break with Oklahoma on top really strong performance so far to be able to build a lead here in the first period as we look at the stats [Applause] now to see if they can answer this early Blitz here in the second quarter when with the running game on first down now back at it from the gun leaves it on the inside with the back really nice stop there from this senior [Music] leader after the strong run on second down third down coming do they do it again to the ground to try to pick up the first he is tackled but it'll be a fresh set of downs and his offense is clicking everything's moving and the guy carrying the football I mean he is carrying the rock like this is a guy that's he's setting his tone for this game creating some balance on this offense this offense is going to be a handful yeah David I'd love to sit here and say well the def coordinator is just one step ahead of his counterpart across the field that's not it right now his offensive line is establishing the line of scrimmage and you mentioned the back he right now is running with authority on this drive and it's just simple simple first down run showing your physicality setting your offense up in a good spot and the Sooners racing to the line in the hurry up on the ground it's a had to work to pick up three down to the 33 Y Line they come to the line three yards away from the first down marker they've converted twice on this drive and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up yeah and third and short that choose not to run throw the football and I think a lot of that has to do with they know they're in field goal range they can take the three points on the board and here comes the field goal [Applause] unit he bomed it through a 50 field goal showing off that powerful leg well that kid just showed off his hammer for a leg 50 plus and he did it with ease that lead just keeps getting fatter in this kickoff team doing a little running he'll bring it back from inside to SP and the returner goes down Temple takes over and the offense will return to the field after giving up that score now it's incumbent on this offense to kind of get a back and forth going Jesse in this game they got to put some points on the board here there's obviously a lot of football to go so it's not necessarily Panic time just yet but I'm getting the ball into the hands of my best Playmakers on this drive I hear you Jesse but not panic time you seen my defense I I mean I'm not trusting them to get a lot of STS so it puts a lot of pressure on this offense they've got a first and 10 at the 34 Ed the play fake now a throw and the defense is all over the quarterback and down he goes we haven't even gotten to halftime yet this offense has their hands full trying to keep this quarterback standing up straight they've already given up multiple sacks that's the biggest reason triling by as much as they are they better go in at halftime and make some big time adjustments they'll try to keep that sack from Wrecking this drive here on second and 15 looking down field it's Brock going down field for the big play and he pulls it in inside the 15 yd line just making a huge play and he sets him up all the way down at the 14 uh the old line gets an Out Boy for that play how about the time they gave their quarterback beautiful pocket they allowed him to survey the field find his open guy this offensive line they are jelling early and the owls moving quickly to the line [Applause] he'll pull it on the read we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up yeah and it's a nice job by this defense understanding listen that QB is a threat and they're going to run all kinds of options and he's going to run the football they were dialed in and got that sucker to the ground going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone he wants to pass it on second down and it'll be intercepted in the end zone and that's just excellent cover cover one nowhere to throw the football look at everybody playing man across the board you still got the safety in the middle of the field nobody open and if I'm the QB man I don't need to force it I I Don't Force It In The Tight Windows if it's not there he throws it unfortunately gets the interception bad decision by the QB there here comes the Oklahoma offense man how comforting is it to know that even if your offense stalls out a little Jesse that field goal kicker can knock it in from a long way out well he's one of the best in the country we sow doubt but this offense would like him and prefer for him to kick an extra point on this drive and to do that David they've got to have more Rhythm on offense yeah create some more Rhythm create some more explosive plays and maybe some more balance and listen it's nice to have that weapon and kick long field goals if you kick too many field goals you don't get very many W's and the pass is incomplete thanks to a big hit and I think QB's rushing especially in the RPO game you want to get that ball okay I'm pulling it now I got to throw a strike right now and get it on him and you can tell throws it to the left and doesn't get it to his wide receiver it's just maybe a little bit of hurrying too much they'll try to move the chains on third and short from the 25 they'll leave it with him how about the patience from this sophomore to hunt that green grass and they just kind of sneak that one in there as a defensive guy third and five plus I'm thinking pass they were thinking pass Palmer and they slipped the run in and it's so nice then to have this guy at running back two right because you could throw it to him on third down or hand it off and he's got the vision and the athleticism to go pick up that first keep the drive going they're going to go right back to him on first down and he's brought down after a nice game you know Oklahoma's DNA is being tough they have a whole drill about being tough named after them the Oklahoma drill and they won that one and we've seen that kind of come and go some throughout the years but it started with serious physicality back in the day when they ran the option and just hit you in the mouth but you know football's involved and and that's the one thing about this offense can they keep their physicality and assert their physicality the good Oklahoma teams are physical running back searching for a hole and they Tred the middle of this defense and that is not happening stopping the run is about physicality it's about I'm bigger than you I'm stronger than you up front really nice job by the defense showing their strength bowing up stuffing the run the Sooners want to move quick quickly looking for a man it's Arnold makes his connection and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up I think really good wide receivers do a good job of making every route kind of look the same you could tell he this looked like a vertical route so if I'm a DB I'm bailing and all of a sudden he sits that hitch down nice job by the wide receiver create enough separation to create a positive game off the RPO complete putting together a real scoring threat here as they pick up the first down at the 36 third down a lot of times it comes down to not necessarily who's the most open who do you trust the most yeah it's not about the x's and the O's it's about the jimmies and the Joe's and when my guy's better than you and I get you matched up out wide and I know I trust you I'm finding you caught in the back field it's Anderson and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end how many first downs is that just on this drive we're going to have to get the training staff to to give some IVs and get some bananas and we better stay hydrated because at this rate the defense is going to play way too many snaps the Sooners with the first and 10 movement here from the tight end he'll keep it himself it's a fumble defense coming up with a huge fumble recovery and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for its own and when you run the option you run the risk of putting the ball in the deck and especially once that thing starts to string out when the defense does a really good job playing assignment football man on a man I got the quarterback taken care of and you could tell had the running back taken care of too nowhere to go with that pitch and they forced the turnover Temple takes over and the owl send the offense back onto the field that last Drive was a punch in the gut throwing the pick in the Red Zone Jesse yeah it just seemed like there was some miscommunication down there in the Red Zone David this drive the qban receivers just have to do a better job being on the same page yeah and I think you pull the positives right we moved the football down the field we had a chance to score but we can't let those opportunities slip between our hands let's go get some points running game worked on first down let's see if they go back to it on second [Applause] down he'll do it himself and how about that interior defense stuffing the run for nothing the offense thought they had a good look to run that play into with the QB but there's just an example of a Defender winning his one-on-one battle and making a tremendous play great effort by that guy Temple lines up quickly on Third and long he has to throw for it oh they really could have used that catch there physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down this is a point where you just got to be able to focus and the critical down and distances in this game like that third down right there when it's a good throw you got to make the catch you've got to be able to make that play Tempo lining up to punt it away fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to punt he's got great speed oh how did you make that move the solid return there offsets some of the punt yardage and really sets up this offense nicely looking for room it's auk they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one that linebacker was a heat seeking missile and the heat that he sought was the ball carrier yeah great job great feel linebackers are making all the calls in the defense and understanding when I need to come through that Gap and come through with bad intentions those guys are usually 245 PBS of heat seeking missile right back to it got the first down and more he's all the way down to the 27 yd line and they are threatened and listen the offensive line has to do their job but a really good job by the running back understanding where his hole is go hit it get the first down don't mess around nice job following his hole getting positive yards now on First and 10 from the 27 just a short pass to the tight end they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground cover to pick up the first just a quick Rhythm throw there and really good use of the tight end yeah good use of the big fow I mean go through your progressions real quick you can't find anything get the easy gain don't take a shot down the field all the time take those shots later but take those easy wide openen opportunities to get some positive chunks makes the catch and he's brought down so an example of a tight end doing a little unheralded work to set up a much better third down situation and I like the QB here ree I like decision where I understand let's get this football out let's get some positive yards and then get to third down and we can still have a better situation now because we got rid of the football and took the yards that were there they'll run for it on Third and short and the Sooners getting up for the first down third inches everybody knows what's coming but it's so dang hard to stop and you better get penetration with that defensive line they didn't do a good enough job running back Falls forward and does his job from the 14 ydd line it's first and 10 they're getting this guy lathered up he's all the way down to the three and Electric Run hasn't set up right away after picking up the first down they go right back to their playmaker at running back and I love the push they got up front getting a hat on a hat opening a huge hole for the back and you become so hard to defend when you can run the football successfully on first down you're starting like that now what opens up reels it in in the end Z touchdown sooner this guy is special what a Target and what a knack for finding the end zone he might just rewrite the record book before he's done in Norman and that's a famous record book we could go down the list of so many Big Time Players just in the last several years whether it's Hollywood Brown CD lamb we can keep going with the list goes on and on and on but just guys that make plays and quarterbacks that trust their receivers because you know why because they do that they'll try to add another to their lead the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown he'll bring it out it's Wilson and the coverage team able to make the tackle Temple takes over and the offense will return to the field they just didn't quite find the Rhythm on that last Drive Jesse they had to punt it I think they got to be more physical David I think up front they got to do a better job getting blocked in establishing this running game and how easy does football become if you're the more physical team if you can threaten the run and then then run play action it opens up the whole offense at your disposal it's first down from back at their own 24 yd line used the play fake now to throw and a quick completion and even quicker loss the defense was right there to knock him down I like the idea by the quarterback there you're trying to get this first down so you find the tight end see if he can make a guy miss or shake a tackle not able to get it done though didn't make it any easier on themselves on first down now second along from the 21 the give to the backat they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one great job by the whole defense but how about the little bitty defensive back throwing his face in the fan I ain't scared I don't just cover guys I make tackles it's third down now and they ought to be able to get off one more play before the two-minute warning we've reached a two-minute warning and this thing has been one-sided and they hope to at least have something to feel good about going into halftime when you've already set your punter out four times at least he knows he's going to get his varsity letter and his leg might get a bigger workout if they don't convert they're going to test that run defense to the right here he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three timeout called by the defense is their first of the half as they'll go to the sideline and try to make adjustments fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way he only needs a of daylight ripping through the defense this guy is a daring punt return man he's not going to settle for the fair catch a solid return gets a little bit of ground for the offense a little screen to the running back he makes the stop but a nice pick up there on first down leaves him in second and manageable and he didn't get a big gain you you want to call that play and probably want to get more yards but you could tell that was super close from seriously busting loose nice job running the screen getting the ball to your playmaker if he could just make one more guy miss that might have been huge missed his receiver there it's incomplete well I'm that incompletion the quarterback and receiver just not on the same page I mean that wasn't even close went up top on second down that leaves him needing a yard here on third down back to throw it's Arnold and they can't make the play on third down third and short in college football today you see so much more pass than you used to the offense stays aggressive and I think they stay aggressive because they know they're in field goal range they got that three in their back pocket now on fourth down they'll send out the field goal unit this is going to have to be Unleashed from 54 yards out oh and he missed it no good and this will will stay a three-score game at 24 Temple takes over and the owl will send the offense back onto the field these guys have taken some body blows in the first half but now a chance to do something to feel a little better going into halftime Rees they got to respond now they they they got to put points on the board right here cut into this deficit create a little bit of momentum because this one's going to get out of hand otherwise yeah there are a lot of offenses out there that might just say okay let's just regroup and figure it out this offense doesn't have time to do that they've got to be aggressive they've got to throw it down field they've got to score points man these slant routes you throw them quick it's a timing rout you three million of them to the wide receiver and most of the time gets his hands up and he catches it keeps his body in the way but right there just lack of focus lack of concentration just drops the easy play he's probably caught that ball 99% of the time it's been thrown to him tackle is made after the first down ever since they invented the forward pass the tight ends have been running the drag and getting the first down I think it's because the tight ends so much versatility you know they can block and stay in the formation or they can release and come out but either way if the quarterback's patient most of the time that drag route's going to come open they'll throw it on first down looking to the big tight ends it in a Timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half I like this tight end he does a really nice job on his route running he's been beating man coverage he can find the soft spots in zones you got to get him involved back to throw it's Brock and it's incomplete if you're going to take a hit like that you might as well hang on to the ball and the big tight end a lot of times that's a bigger Strike Zone a bigger dude and you could tell they put the hit on him and that ball came out and it came to the turf nice job playing physical by this defense after the misfire now on second down he's looking to throw and that ball is picked off he was thinking big return didn't get that before did he give his offense an opportunity at the 31 this is obviously not a great start for this quarterback here two interceptions already in this game he's got to do a much better job with his decision Mak the sooner offense returns to the field they've been the height of efficiency here in the first half David you've got to think they're going to try to click it right down the field here when you're looking at your playbook and this works so well in the first half I'm look to continue to do what I've been doing Palmer cuz it's been all gas po that's right strike while the iron's hot too before this defense gets to go at halftime to potentially make some adjustments show you some different looks in the second half whatever you've been doing it's working keep it up and they can't make the connection and when you're a quarterback man I know wide receivers are great athletes and they're supposed to catch everything that gets near them but when you don't put it right on the center when they're running a lot of times it just makes it a little bit more difficult and I think he did that a little bit too much for his Wide Receiver right there and here comes the offense on second down he's looking to throw unloads to the wide out working on the right and a nice grab there big pick up down to the 35 yd line and after that pitch and catch he's already over 200 yards and we're in the first half Jesse man Ree dialed in right now he's really doing a nice job seeing the field reading coverages and finding his open guy clock winding toward zero they'll get one more snap off the pass is incomplete and the clock will stop with five seconds left on second down they'll try the field goal to get the points before halftime he's going to reach for a long one a 52 yd attempt and he missed it no good and guys this will stay a 24-point game and you wonder if mechanically something is off with this kicker that's now his second missed field goal of the day and guys we've got almost perfect conditions to kick the football I'm not sure what's going on just enough time to get off one final play of the half to the air it's Brock he off one deep down the left side what a spectacular grab there as they try to finish this game with a little something to feel good about that's the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin in our halftime update guys you've been calling a lively one from Norman so far and it's been a battle of wills between these two teams through two quarters end but don't break they've managed to neutralize the explosive Playmakers on each side by shutting down passing windows and providing tight coverage forget the jimmies and Joe's this second half could really be about the X's and O's and with that let's head back to Oklahoma and Memorial Stadium Temple will try to boot this one deep to get the second half [Applause] underway and he takes this from inside the five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic that they get him on the ground at the 20 so Oklahoma has it again and here comes the [Applause] offense first play from scrimmage and they'll keep it on the ground knocked down after picking up five out to the 24 this came into the game knowing they wanted to be physical they wanted to establish the line of scrimmage and they're running downhill right at this defense and they're turning out positive yardage early halfway there on first down it's second and five leaves it with the running back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple when a running back has had as much success as this guy's had so far listen defense has got to quue in they got to Q in to him he's priority number one number two and number three that's a good start to maybe turning this defensive effort around they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here on third down going up top that's caught it's AA and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the Stop and that's why as a defense you want to set up third and long situations you just want to be able to keep the football in front of it's okay for that quarterback to hit the running back on that pass now you have all those bodies flying to the football and they're able to make a tackle the Sooners decide to punt it away finally sending out a punter in this one got to make sure they earn their letter looking for a block it's right that's a perfect example of not settling for a fair catch pick up whatever yardage you can and help out the offense they'll ride the running back and leave it with him didn't get much on first down it's second and nine dropping back it's Brock using the quick game lots of green grass as he gets it to the 31 we see another catch by this guy this defense is going to need to do a better job of tackling the catch in coverage I know they want to slap the ball away but if you can't do it and force the incompletion you've got to at least make sure you're able to drag him down to the ground as soon as he catches the ball it's first and 10 from the 31 here's the handoff and I think they'll give him two on that one second and eight coming up and sticking to the run I'll tell you what a lot of teams that are really good are really stub and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running the football you can tell picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down they'll try the right side dropped after a pick up of three down to the 26 guys this offense is already reeling down multiple possessions really need to cash in on this drive third down play from the gun wide open down field touchdown ow reeled it in and just made the house call got to start cutting into this lead somewhere now the question will they have enough time but that's step one you got to get that first score you got to get back in the ball game and get some of that momentum back on your side you still got more work to do but step one accomplished now the two-point conversion attempt is [Applause] coming looking to throw it's Brock got his man quickly he's not going to get it in and the lead will remain 18 as they were trying to make this a two- possession game about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown and he's going to bring it out at the end zone he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 here come the Sooners ready to go on offense here's another opportunity Jesse to stretch out this lead after punting last time I think it goes back to your Playmakers Reese I think it's finding the guys that have been working for you earlier on in this game and getting them the football and there's obviously no need to panic I mean think about it you got the lead you got the football you got to beart with the football make your plays put a good drive together here so much for the tough field position One play and you're already to the 35 they'll ride the hot hand a confident tough efficient run gets it up to the 44 I know it's sexy to throw the football but if you can pound it away and get these kind of gains they will just add up wear the defense down get first downs and ultimately get some points got eight on first down looking at a second and two from the gun the G looking for room one step W twep squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground this defense will try to force a fourth down on Third and short from the 45 they'll try to pick it up on the ground the Sooners get enough for the first down I don't need it to be pretty I just need my inches third down in inches nice job by getting the first down always fall forward play physical don't get East and West stay north and south nice job by the running back and the Sooners have their offense in high gear from the gun they'll give it on the inside sweet there coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that the big pick up on first down leaves him with second and one quarterback on the keeper they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one well they're trying to go option but the linebacker shows his open field tackling ability and also his recognition he expected the quarterback to keep it went after and was able to make the tackle for loss lining up to convert third down he'll pull it on the read they'll move the chains good execution on third down they've got it at the 41 this quarterback does an outstanding job in his preparation watching film and understanding when has to pull the ball on these types of run plays great job keying on the defender and quickly making the right decision to pull it and then go get North and get the first using his legs it's a and they picked up nine on first down it'll bring up second and short yeah this coaching staff they're getting this offensive line lathered up and into a rhythm now they're letting them drive off the ball on first down on these running plays and they're getting chunks of yardage nydd pickup on first down and now they can take a shot on second and short looking for a man it's Arnold it's complete to the right put it right on him sweet play good pick up and they'll move the change with the first down this is simple pitching catch quarterback and wide receiver have done this four million times in the off season he catches waits for him to take a couple steps boom fires it right on his chest they can complete this probably with their eyes closed they've ran this route so many times together the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the D they'll give it to the back give him six on the play they'll mark it at the nine hey five to six yards a pop I don't know if you guys are really good at math but that usually equals a first down every couple carries so don't forget about the Run game keep them honest pound that rock operating in the Red Zone here on second down out of the gun the running back has it they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and sometimes for the defense it just takes one play right to create some momentum obviously this guy's been eating him up he's got over a 100 yards rushing on the day but finally David they get something positive here in the Run game defensively but you kind of know that coming in he's going to get his such a great back and he's had a great day need to put more plays together like that right there lets it go to the end zone touchdown Oklahoma and The Stomping has commenced go ahead and have a day at the wide out position you stack up some games like this you can take down DD Westbrook's record 17 touchdowns in a season man and I just want to play in this offense if I'm a receiver across the country I know every year Oklahoma's going to spread the ball around throw it around you're going to have plenty of opportunities and is cashing in those opportunities with just touchdown touchdown touchdowns lining up to tack one more onto that lead and with the extra point they push the lead out a little further they put it in the end zone with a 12pl scoring drive and they finish it off by connecting from 10 yds out lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive here he comes from inside his zone five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Temple takes over and the offense will return to the field hand off from the gun pass the first down marker and still running now they've got even more breathing room out to the 31 and a fresh set of downs and that is just an attitude run running it right up the middle right into the teeth of that defense and they'll line up from the 31 on first down to the air it's Brock gets open down the middle he's brought down solid pick up but a little bit short of the first down and a really nice job by the wide receiver you run a drag route fine space they're in zone coverage they're not covering man the man find a little hole look at that QB y'all get on the same page you could tell they were and that's why they got the first got some of the work done on first now let's see what they have on second down he's got his man he stopped at the 48 a pick up of 10 on the play this guy is lightning fast you see him come out of the break on the slant QB got it to him early what a weapon change our set and Temple has it with another first and 10 he's looking to throw it and the physical play there forces the incompletion on first down what a hit by the defender that's a good throw and that was going to be caught but how about the defender dislodging the football from its intended target nice job the incomplete pass leaves him with second down the aerial assault continues and he is flat missed him sometimes you see a guy open you tried to baby it too much and it was a bad throw now facing a third and long from the gun wants to pass right through the Wicket He just flat dropped it on the Crosser and it'll be fourth down every defense in the country talks about getting offenses in predictable third and long situations where I can bring on more speedsters and I know the pass is coming so I can have more success Tempo lining up to punt it away and these guys have been busy sixth punt of the day able to keep them from getting a return and the ball goes out of bounds they're going to mark it right around the 20 guys we'll get another look at this Oklahoma offense you want to talk about a drive where you impose your will that's what they did running it down for a touchdown David there is nothing more demoralizing than that for a defense to be physically pounded the run is coming you know it's coming and you can't stop it nothing the defense can do that is mono imano up front and your guys getting a push they know you're running it and they still can't stop you they'll run it out of the shotgun gets it out to the 25 yd line a gain of three so they're facing third and short from the 25 give to the running back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple maybe that stop shows this defense is tightening up especially in the Run game the offense frankly they've been able to do they want to do they just handed the ball off this guy's having success left and right no sir no Moss get it together the Sooners will send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it [Music] away he'll call for the fair catch here Temple takes over and the owl will send the offense back onto the field that last Drive won't go on the Highlight Reel after ending in a punt they'd like to be more productive this time David and I think this offense has be a little bit more balanced find a little balance between the Run Jesse and working in that pass and I think too David it's just going to take a spark it just takes one play to get this thing picked up and going got three on first down it's second and seven from the gun the running back tries to hit the hole they finally get him on the ground with a big running play moves to change for the first down defense is going to have their hands full trying to get this guy in the ground man he's got some serious moves once he has the ball in his hands the offense will put it in play from the 47 on First and 10 looking to move it through the air fires to the right makes a connection and they'll finally catch up to him but not before a big chunk of yardage is picked up well how about the offense setting that play up we've seen earlier in the game a couple shorter throws they're just trying to suck those safeties closer to the line of scrimmage anticipating that they would get an opportunity to take a shot they called the perfect play at the perfect time right there they're down to the first and 10 he'll keep it himself and he has a solid gain before the defense bottles him up this defense really has their hands full guys they got to play with great eye discipline because they don't know who's going to be keeping the football in the Run game and that time you saw the QB he was able to kind of skirt his way to get some positive yards going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down they'll move the running back to try to force the defense to adjust snags it into the end zone touchdown ow great example of how a second half can really change everything for a team no doubt first half looked bad it looked like it was Bleak it looked like it was ugly but now you're starting to get it turned around that more drives like this is what's needed they'll try to attack one more on their score they knocked through the extra point but they still Trail 3113 a very efficient five play scoring drive and they finish it by firing one in from the 13 for the score about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown he'll start the return inside the spot really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 here comes the sooner offense back onto the field they'll go to the ground trying to move that pile forward he maybe gets two he's down at the 21 and these defensive tackles just eat people they swallow human beings when you get near them they're so big so strong those guys those running back coming they just need a mid they put one mid on a running back and he usually falls to the ground just because of their sheer mass and strength trying play action going for the big play and he's got it inside the 30 yd line touchdown sooner and the punishment has been extended man there was something going on on that play between the quarterb and reer they were looking at each other it was almost like they were smiling receiver's out to his right he saw something he liked he knew he had the post throw and it was on shows you the speed puts on the afterburners accurate throw and it's a touchdown they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead aggressive play calling on that drive just two plays they get the long touchdown pass to pay it off kickoff team has the ball teed up and they're about ready to go on the move from inside is five and the returner will be brought down Temple takes over and the offense will return to the field there's certainly still a hill to climb they've got to make sure these drives pay off got a touchdown last time can they back it up here well and it's amazing in a football game how sometimes they'll surprise you with what you do once you get settled and you realize what's going on now I'm comfortable with it Jesse this offense looked comfortable on its last Drive they sure did it looked like they started to find some momentum so now it's on this defense to stop that all right you're a little bit upset based on what just happened the previous drive you've got to Bow up again and go back to what was working earlier in this game and this junior loves to show off that big arm it is plays like that that'll let you pile up some serious passing yards man what an effort I I mean the layout to be able to catch the football keep it off the ground nice job by this receiver and that's why this quarterback's had a day guys making plays all over the field out of the gun they'll run it inside they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one most offensive schemes are predicated on first down productivity that will not go down as a productive first down Play No it will not ree give this defensive line credit because they were able to get penetration right off the snap and force a negative play the give to the back really nice job to squirt his up to the 31 yd line listen you you got to be able to know what play to call and what hole to go through like the line blocks for a certain hole good job getting through the hole getting what was blocked getting a nice positive gain making your situation really good on the next down as they get set to snap it just about to reach the end of the quarter back to pass it's Brock throws to the tight end complete downfield and he's got enough for a first down now to see if they have enough time to snap it again here in the third and man this quarterback has had a day with that pass he goes over 300 yards on the day really nice job executing putting up some yards today pretty good day for the young man just about ready to go in the fourth and we'll see if any drama can be mustered this Temple offense putting together a nice drive looking to go up top on first down got it set up on the outside and he'll run across the sidelines after the good gain and this offense I think will do a good job in this game divvying up the football and distributing it to different guys in the passing game it won't just be receivers it's not going to be tight ends this running back he's a weapon too after he catches it you saw it right there second down coming up off the play fate he lets one fly deep he's got it downfield huge game and the best thing about this the offense can't worry about the scoreboard just keep trying to make plays like that Jesse I know a lot of people in the stadium probably feel like this game is over maybe it's been over for a while or e but don't tell that to this quarterback and his teammates they're still out there scrapping and CLA the owls getting set on First and 10 give to the back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple man what a play by that defensive lineman you you could say he was channeling his inner Pollock and that's what defensive lineman do big fast one of the most athletic players on the field getting in the back field just beautiful you know you could have shown a little humility there and said a Shucks or something a Shucks or something dropping back it's Brock got his man down the middle they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down mark I love offenses and quarterbacks that are willing to take the easy stuff take those easy throws that are guaranteed to get positive yards yeah I'm going to take big shots down the field too but don't forget it's easier to pick up second and five third and five than it is when we start getting those long yarded situations and they're able to get a third down stop here see if they go for it on Fourth keep the foot on the pedal if you're on offense or you got that yardage yeah you didn't get the first down but you've set yourself up now to go for it here and keep this drive alive down by multiple possessions they can't come up empty on this drive in the fourth quarter they'll go for it on fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down how about that nice run from this junior quarterback these quarterbacks are so frustrating I mean he takes and chews up ground so easy gets the first down easily wanted to throw the football but some kind of athlete able to pull that thing down and go get that first down Temple will line up with a first and goal they'll try to get it in with the run and they try the middle of this Stout defense and they rise to the challenge man oh man the ball carrier was just shut down and I tell you what they need some push up front too right they got to move those defensive linemen out of the way at least create a hole so your running back has a chance not there he didn't have any defense rose up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming caught behind the line it's balen touchdown ows made the snag and strolled his way into the end zone this game must be moving so slowly for this quarterback he sees everything two or three beats ahead way ahead I mean it's been been really really easy I better get some more hits on them I better do something to make him feel uncomfortable cuz right now it's just like oh you're running that yeah that's easy I mean he's he's already read your mail you better change the address do something different lining up to add another hit that one with some aggression for the point after [Applause] the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty the kickoff team on the field and he ought to just boom this thing through the end zone with that extra 15 yards on the penalty if you can do that I don't know why you don't do it every time reduce the risk banged it out of the back of the end zone they'll put it in play at the 25 he'll do it himself really nice to squirt his way up to the 31 yd line how easy was that I mean when you got a quarterback that can run designed runs like this and and get you five plus yards just and make it look that easy God it makes it really hard for the defenses to stop picked up some yardage on the ground now here comes second down and off from the shotgun he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage what a great play play by the linebacker do you talk about filling a hole defensive line does their jobs he comes in the hole says sit out sir they're facing a third down out of the shotgun they go to the ground and he's brought down at the 40 yd line and that'll be a first down big reason why his team has the lead right now late is because of his performance running the football well over a 100 yards in this game they knew that they were going to have to really put a lot of pressure on him he'd have to shoulder the load and he has delivered for his offense all game long the give on the inside it's a point in the game I think as a coaching staff where you really challenge your offensive line to go win the football game right we've got to lead late we're going to run the football and the defense and everybody in the stadium knows that's what's going to happen can we run the ball down their throats and impose our will that's what this offense right now is trying to do takes a hand off it's auk a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior will they keep it on the ground again here on third down looking to throw it's Arnold they're working that left side he's run out of bounds but he's got enough to move the sticks he has been the go-to guy on offense all game long and on a critical third down here in the fourth quarter surprise surprise guess who they go to that guy the Sooners are rolling down the field they'll run it from the gun you'll take four yards on first down every time second and six small gain I know but again the defense knows he's going to run the football he's willing to run the football not just drop back and pass make him on to the Run game you got to do a lot of this after the productive first down play it's second and six they move the tight end all over looking for a physical attack from the gun and they'll bring him to the ground after a short gain man that D tackle is a freak athlete did you see him come out of his stance and beat the offensive lineman getting to the running back catlike quickness five yard away from another third down conversion on this drive they're already two for two from the gun the running back has it third down conversions are huge and they've got one and they at the 35 I think you have to like what you see if you're the coaching staff your offense is on the field and it looks like you got a pretty good drive going and you're just going to try and keep this thing marching keep the clock ticking you've got a really nice lead here late just want to find ways to keep the chains moving they're doing that from the gun the running back looking for room they knock him down inside the 30 at the 29 it's a pick up of six you got to give the coaching staff credit because they really do Focus all season long on situational football the lead late in the game if we're on offense we're trying to stay in bounds we're trying to bleed the clock and after ripping off a really nice run that guy knew I've got to get down I cannot get pushed out of bounds cannot get tackled out of bounds really really nice job finally pulled down but not before moving the change for a first down everything going the offense's way they're trying to ice this game late they got a really nice lead so you just want to run the ball high percentage throws and keep the chains moving and doing that this has been a beautiful drive to watch offense continues to stay in a nice Rhythm here late yeah and that's a great job by this offense and I tell you what fourth quarter you have the lead that's exactly what you want to do lean on these guys run the football eat that clock going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone they'll try the run and he's brought to the ground but not before he gets enough for the first down you know you start day one of training camp running your base runs you need a few yards you run these plays you need a first down you run these plays you rep them over and over and over again they're not sexy they're not pretty but in the end they're effective and they get you that new set of downs when you need them he's got it on the right that completion will take it close to the 5 yd line they'll mark it at the six M coach said you'll never go broke taking a profit take what's there take the positive yards and never complain operating in the Red Zone here on second down leaves it with the back so close to that end zone he could almost but it'll be first and goal for this offense this guy's been special today coming into this one they thought they had an opportunity really to get him going running the football and he has delivered you've seen the speed the vision his ability to break tackles well over a 100 rushing yards in this game and that's why they have a nice lead here late to throw it's Arnold [Applause] touchdown and the route is on it's another good decision by the quarterback You' got to be impressed here on that one he finds his tight end but all game long whether it's receivers or running backs or tight ends wherever the best one-on-one matchup has been he's been able to take advantage of it and that's why they've been able to score so many points Ling to attack one more onto that lead the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead so the 16 play drive and it was finished off with a two- yd touchdown TOS kickoff team lining up to send this one away on the run from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Temple takes over and the owl will send the offense back onto the field how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion well this guy must feel like he's run into a buzzsaw in this game he has been under duress all game long and that's a big reason why he's thrown multiple interceptions in the game too nothing coming easy to him it's hard to see the field when your internal clock is going off so fast because of the pressure of this defense and that's why they themselves down by so much here in the fourth working that left side really needed a play like that to get out of their own end they move the chains they mark it at the 29 quarterback and receiver on the same page there on the cow route nice job by the receiver finding the soft spot in zone and just settling down making that throw a whole bunch easier they'll start this one from the 29 on first down to the air it's Brock gets it out fast knock down immediately but a nice pick up on that one that guy might not be the tallest wide receiver in the world but he sure is quick coming out of his break and he shows you on that slant throw here comes the offense on second down back to the air one more time it's complete on the right side good job running that route to get past the because he got nothing after the catch he saw man coverage and the idea just get it to my receiver as quickly as I can and let him work David see man and and see the cushion and see the guy backed up a little bit now I know I can get it to him right now and get a positive game to the air on first down spits it out to the back and this will be in complete a big hit there forces second down yeah and you use these running backs so much much in the passing game now and you expect him to make those plays for you to make those big explosive plays out of the back field just got to make sure he concentrates and see that ball come in after they couldn't connect it's second and 10 he's looking to throw and that's going to be incomplete a lot of contact on the play but no Flags it'll be third down love the physicality of this secondary on defense that Defender got to the football was able to separate the receiver from the ball and did it legally beautiful job let's see what they find in the playbook for third and long from the 43 he's looking to pass get it out on the screen and he'll step out of bounds after a very productive play love the execution there in the screen the running back shows pass protect pass protect last second turns around so he's able to get the ball the D lineman have already run past now he can turn up field for a big Gainer down in the fourth quarter it's too late for empty possessions they'll go for it on fourth down they'll try it on the ground he is stopped short and they'll turn it over on Downs just a rushing blow at this point in the game low man wins defense that time on fourth down was expecting run you saw at the point of attack how they just dominated there was nowhere for that guy to go defense wins the down they give it back up now to their offense they stop him just short of the first down but it will be second and inches coming up and that would be the definition of first down success putting yourself in a good position it's second and inches I can do whatever I want next I can take a shot down the field I can run the football and get a new set of downs like nice first down execution we reached the two-minute warning and this offense is that much closer to salting away a victory let's see what they've got on second down they'll run it trying to drain time off the clock they get him on the ground but it's a first down man this offense would really like to lean on this guy in the fourth quarter right they've got the lead and you just saw his ability there breaking a tackle he looks like he's getting stronger as the game goes on I'd expect him to get a few more carries here before this game's over from the 33 it's first and 10 he'll put the tight end in motion on the run it's ack a seven yd pickup it'll be second and three and this is exactly where you want to be as an offensive Co it like when you've got the lead late in the football game just run the football eat the clock man they put a good day together they they they've had a they've had their way with this defense a lot of positive things to point to this is one of those weeks when you watch tape it's going to be really fun to watch it not like when you get beat up a lot of big plays from this offense out of the gun they give to the back and you want to talk about G tackling everybody on the defense run to the ball and the defense is still fighting they they haven't had the day that they dreamed of you know talking to the coaches coming into the game like they thought they had a good plan they'd be ready to attack and and and limit some of the damage this offense has done they haven't done it today though they got to go back to the drawing board figure some things out because this wasn't a great day for for
