apologize a couple of months ago for saying he would raise the Fai to the ground and Sack 90% of those working there so I started by asking him how much he's enjoying management everyone in the league booing but I think that was a bit of pantomim whereas with rice I saw a few fans a lot more viciously uh like a few kind of V are flipped and this sort of thing so uh it it did feel a bit more heartfelt with rice okay is it fair number 15 my personal view is Jason Knight I think we should have moved on by now I have to say um now maybe as you can tell from my own name I'm I'm a dual nationality Irish Spanish and live in live live in London so maybe I have a bit more Nuance you about I I do think so with players like rice with greish and also I think with the modern football World now which obious the reflection of the modern world so many players now are going to have multinationality so in in this English Squad alone just the 23 carsley has brought 11 can play for two Nations and four can play for at least three nations so I think it's actually right that FIFA's rules now recognize this now obviously I don't think that should be taken so you shouldn't be able to play in like competitive games for two countries but friendlies I think you have to be flexwise we could have get in situations where players could play one game for a nation that's their entire International career locked off and we have seen that in the past now on the other I suppose the way it would usually work when we consider that is it's the maybe the smaller Nation with access the fewer resources who would who generally wins out because they get access to players who can no longer play for kind of a wealthier Nation whereas obviously rice it worked the opposite direction and I suppose that's what from a certain perspective a lingering H distaste for situation I think is understandable and maybe the sense that at a point in Rice's career where he certainly wasn't seen as a 100 million pound midfielder it it maybe I mean he he he had been let go prob Chelsea a few years beforehand so again he was in a lower point maybe a sense from that he used Ireland the one thing I would say to that as well to be fair I mean we we've had a lot of our Ireland are have had a lot of uh so Ireland have had a lot of players that say came up through the northern Irish system and switched Darren Gibson James mlan yeah and again I think that just that just reflects nature of international football now that was more Gish situation but yeah personally I I would have thought we're at a point now where he should be a bit bit more maybe restrained about the right thing but equally there is still a lot of resentment I I have to say I was slightly surprised when I came back this we came back a few days earlier back to Dublin and obviously this was already being discussed I was struck by how fervent a discussion about rice was oh there's passion in it there's no doubt about that um on Daman he's protecting his own job he's looking after his own players and it's the most important to him I get that but this is a man who is not at one with the Ireland national team he's not at one with the Fai clearly has it been a real shambles is it a broken the Fai after the the long hard search for a new manager oh I mean it goes back much further we're talking about an institution that was dysfunctional for 40 years and at the moment in the process of trying to find a CEO it's been the subject of kind of government inquiries uh they've had funding cut had threats of funding cut off because of it essentially hasn't been run properly so there's all sorts of issues going on there and you only have to see I suppose the length of time it took to point a manager although in context if they get if they get the right it doesn't really matter I suppose but even with Duff himself though I think there's maybe two or three things getting going on I mean obviously Duff would have played for Ireland through some of the fi's most dysfunctional eras one of them leading up to the biggest controversy in the country's football history which was Sian when Roy Kean um was well sent home and also after that left of his own valtion I think you've still got to be a bit that diplomatic how you put that uh but even within that and the this is connected to the fbii as well some of Duff's comments on kind of the league of Ireland against the international team There is almost a bit of a culture war in Irish football I think would explain bigger issues almost about say why this Irish team is nowhere near the quality of uh the size that Stuart Pierce would have played against in 1990 say when like there wasn't such a gap between the sides big man it is the Republic of Ireland you're right they've not played particularly well one final question on that first half what exactly does will small bone have to do to get booked uh keep doing what he's doing it's fair to I'm I wish
