so this next song was written sort of as an answer to the life that Lindsay and I had when we first moved to Los Angeles when we moved to LA I I stopped being I stopped being a student I left San Jose State knowing that that was it for the parents supporting me and it was like well Mom I understand that but um what's happening is the music is here in San Francisco but the are in Los Angeles and we have to go was very serious we have to go and she's like okay but your father and I will no longer be supporting you we will support you in theory but we will not be supporting you because you're quitting college and I said okay well we're we're we're leaving so anyway we did we moved down to Los Angeles we got a place we actually didn't get a place we moved in with our producer free and um lived there for almost 2 years and um but I was the cleaning lady that's how we paid our debt and um I actually had all the jobs because just think about it what would Lindsay do helicopter one so I was happy to take on the mantle of total bread winner and it was okay and it was fun and it got me out of the house and away from all the guys that were making music including W not that I wanted to get away from you I love being around you but you know there's a bunch of you together you were you were all working but to me it was like so anyway um it was it was hard at the time but at the end of 1974 the first day of the well the very end of 1974 we got a phone call from MC clood and we knew that this was going to come because Keith Olson our producer told us so I made sure I answered the phone cuz Lindsay really didn't want to be blues guitarist and I was like well I don't really want to be a a cleaning lady and I'm W so we're going to join this band if they [Applause] want so I answer the phone and this glorious voice on the other side I said hello and it was like Hello darling and I'm like think they're better already and he said um so uh we hear from Keith that uh that you live here and you you you've been doing your Buckingham Nix thing and well we would really like to have dinner with you tomorrow and and talk about uh you joining our band and um I did not know that they had asked Christine you know well we know we already have you Chris and we don't need another girl but but Lindsay has Stevie and he's not going to come and be in our band without her so if you don't like her we table it you have a we have a great dinner and that said it's over so I didn't know that so anyway we go to this Mexican restaurant that we loved anyway but couldn't afford to go to so we go and Lindy and I are leaning up against the the wall and these two big CS come driving up the ones with the big fins and the red lights and they're white and we're leaning against the wall like and they get out of the car Christine is like dressed gorgeous in like total English beautiful Shian skirt fabulous cowboy boots vest little velvet jacket hair in the wind John is just handsome in his cut offs and his tennis shoes and his as he will tell you to this day his great legs and then there was Mick Mick got out of the car in his fullon pre pie suit total total gold fa watch hair 65 I looked at linday and I went this this is good and we went in Christine and I locked arms we went into this restaurant we sat down and for 3 hours Christine and I were just like and by the time that dinner was over we actually didn't even care if the rest of them stayed in the band was it's going to be us and we were like like this so ni called back the next day and said so uh can you be at like I don't know some rehearsal Hall and we're going to start rehearsing bring your songs and we'll rehearse for like maybe 3 weeks then we'll go in and and we'll record for 2 or 3 months and then we'll go in the road in the summer and and I'm like okay we'll be there and so that's exactly what happened that's exactly what happened it was easy we all there was so many good songs floating around that it was like we didn't even have the time to even do all of them so everything was like it was a perfect the cards fell perfect so anyway we did that we went on the road at the end of that tour theny and I were together a half of a millionaire and mind you how poor we were so it was like we were rich and then we went on to start the next tour and at some point during there my mom calls me and said so what are you doing with all this money and my mom's like the financier from hell right and I'm like well we're spending it and she's like what do they do when they give you the money every week cuz we were Hired Hand still at that point and she says that and I said well we just sign our our initial SN lb in a little black book right and she goes you know there's taxes right and I'm like Mom we didn't have enough money when we were Buckingham next to file for taxes ever so no we know nothing p with back taxes and she goes well how do you feel about jail so I said Jail's really not on my bucket list so tell me what to do and she said hire a firm a business firm to handle your money so we did so that all being said there was a point where I was going I was starting to kind of miss the old days and I call it the house on days that's not the sleeping pill days that's the house on means the Romantic days of wind and roses kind of thing and um I'm going I'm kind of missing that cuz it was hard but there was something really beautiful about it right Wy he goes no not not that beautiful I I was looking at it through the eyes of you know a total romantic person and so anyway I I started doing this thing that made this song happen so I would take my brand new gorgeous KingSize bed off out of my room put it in the garage and then I would put my mattress on underground and I would put my old coverlets that I had before F man and some paper flowers and lights of candles and and I would just go over to the bed on the floor and I would sit down and I would go I am still [Applause] Stevie and I would leave that bed on the floor until I start to really feel better about about the whole thing so anyway that led to a song about Nomads traveling people traveling down the road gypsy wagons and most of all gypsies so this is that song [Applause] [Music] to at the ground [Music] Flor to room with and paper flow to that I to the [Music] gyy that [Music] [Music] I and and
