welcome to the swap home of the Florida Gators and we've long been told it is here that only the Gators Get Out Alive there's nothing quite like a great rivalry matchup in college football the bitterness the intensity the lifetime of memories that will come as a result of what we're about to see in this one as we'll see the number 23 team in the country the Miami hurricane taking on a team from the SEC the FL Gators glad to have you with us for EA Sports college football I'm Reese Davis David poock and Jesse Palmer with me in the booth guys we are ready to tee it up and the gator will kick it away to start us off on the run from inside of zone five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 so Miami's offense takes the field to start this game off and the adrenaline is pumping on overdrive in games like this guys and it's crucial to get your emotions under control no doubt in rivalry games you've got to limit the mental errors and you've got to limit the penalties cuz those will kill you Bob and you got to come out under control it means so much we know that the fans are all talking about it but it's just football [Applause] not what they had in mind to start this drive here comes second and 13 Martinez on the carry just searching and working for the Running Room as he gets it out to the 26 offensive linemen love to run the power why you run power you run power then you can play action you don't want that defense to be sitting there saying it's a pass it's a pass the block every play got to keep defenses off bounds this crowd trying to make life miserable for this offense dropping back it's Ward going to try to pop one on the screen still running at the 40 he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down that was just a perfectly choreographed screen the line got out on time the running back had a wall in front of it and I think the quarterback did a real really good job of selling pass and then kind of dodging the pass rush getting it to the running back and then let him do the rest you got him in space they'll pick up yards in a hurry and he's able to bounce off one tackle for a solid pickup coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chain and when you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just [Applause] that eight- yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and short quarterback Quick Pass to the receiver inside the 35 get anyone catching and after gobbling up some serious yardage and showing off those Wheels he's finally out of bounds this defense really needs to be careful and they have to play with great eye discipline understanding where the football is at all times moving forward they have got to know if this guy has the ball cuz he is dangerous in space fans are bringing the noise on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the Run he pushes his way down to the four as they get closer and closer man that D tackle is a freak athlete did you see him come out of the stance and beat the offensive lineman getting to the running back catlike quickness these fans raising the volume on second and go goal he's looking to throw he makes the catch in the end zone touch down hurricane they can use this first score to sort of set the tone guys in this rivalry matchup man doesn't this feel good to come out score early get the crowd involved get the nerves out of the way Palmer when you're playing in a big rivalry game yeah and I feel like momentum is always a big thing in any game but in rivalry games it's that much more important because everybody is going to feed off that first score now getting set for the point after exra point and the extra point is good and it's seven nothing so it's an 80 yd drive and they CA the drive with a four yd touchdown pass they're just about ready to kick it away to kick it off he'll bring it out it's Hawkins [Music] [Applause] return the Gators offense headed onto the field our first look at them today as we take a look at our impact players for this one what are you looking for Jesse for a guy to make an impact well these are simply put the leaders of this football team and generally games go how these guys play if they make plays they've got a shot to win this one no doubt they got to show up these are the team leaders these guys have to play well if they're going to win the football game well it's plays like that that will help this offense stay in Rhythm all game long if you can have that kind of success on first down running the football it just opens up your entire Playbook moving forward got eight on first down now looking at a second and two looking to throw it's m he's got his man across the middle knocked down at the 44 but he got 15 on that one and a really good job by the quarterback being very decisive he saw his matchup he went for it he attacked it got the positive game I would say he's going to find that guy a few more times today now they'll line it up from the 44 on First and 10 they give it to Johnson not a whole lot of room there three yards maybe second and seven we had a barn burner the last time these two teams played and no reason to expect anything else between these two bitter Rivals attention to detail and I think the sense of urgency David in a game like this just goes way off and I think managing the emotions in these type of games you you know last year was a classic now you're trying to form this year's identity of this team and go out and get a win in a big time good continues to fight for yards touchdown Florida and once he found some daylight it was time to make a house call and what did I start for this offense the throw game getting working getting the touchdown pass this quarterback getting a little bit of confidence this passing game getting in the Rhythm nice start for this offense now they'll line up for what they hope is [Applause] automatic splits the upright quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and the final 53 yds coming courtesy of that touchdown pass after that latest answer tied things up just about set to kick it away again here he comes with return nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 and here comes that Miami offense back onto the field they think there's room to run to the right here they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one that linebacker saw the express lane right to the ball carry and a great job by the defensive line getting some push making them use their resources on him the linebacker comes free making back for a tackle for didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 from the gun running back gets to give slams into the pile he'll get one to the 17 I know you want to prepare for every game the same way but there's just something different about rivalry games Jesse it's because Reese I think players are aware that games like this Define your legacy as a player your record in rivalry games is something that people are going to talk about for years and years down the road you have got to show up and play your best football in games like this he'll have the first down as he gets it to the 28 yd line before he stops oh man did he turn that one loose and fired it into the teeth of the zone and you know as a quarterback Reese when you're throwing it to the perimeter of the field on these curl routes you've got to have some heat you've got to have arm talent to get that ball out quickly into the hands of your receiver before all those Defenders can get to it man this QB's got a C he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense well I know the tight endend did some good things after the catch but got to give the quarterback credit too for the location of the throw because he put it out in front of his big man he was able to make the catch and accelerate creating some distance there between him and the defense wide receiver shows motion from the gun he leaves it with the B know I think a big part of this isn't necessarily scoring a touchdown on that plate but you're just trying to get your offensive line in the rhythm of the game let those Big Fellas get lathered up [Applause] got three on first down it's second and [Applause] seven the give to the back he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three that DB had a different story he had something to say coming up making a physical [Applause] tackle Here Comes This Home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down looking downfield it's Ward and they got him for the sack [Applause] that's the end of the first we've played one and we are right back where we started all tied up after the first period as we take a look at the [Applause] stats we've got a good one going here and looking forward to keep those vibes rolling here in the second and the canes will send out the punt unit first time we've seen their punt team this afternoon he'll put that return to a stop at the 33 but the offense set up in pretty good field position the gator sending the offense back to work how big is this drive scored a touchdown the last time they had it defense gets a stop and now it's up to them in a tie game all right so if you're the offensive coordinator here let's dial it in who are your best matchups and best Playmakers to take advantage of this golden opportunity yeah and I'm interested to see this defense too like the momentum is clearly not in your favor how do you get it back how do you make a big play do you be more aggressive here to try to get the football back to your offense on second down they'll take to the air excellent coverage and good use of the hands to knock it away yeah that was a good play on the ball getting his hand up and getting the tip getting the deflection ball bounces up in the air falls to the ground incomplete pass they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here they'll Run play action hit as he throws got his man downfield that'll get the job done and move the chains and they'll Mark the ball at the 45 and those long shots man I tell you what it takes a little bit longer to develop so as a quarterback you know you got to buy a little bit of time mad respect man hanging in there KN one he's going to get get hit but still making the big play down the field the gator have it with a first and 10 the hand off to Johnson and how about the efficiency on that one it'll bring up second and four I know it's sexy to throw the football but if you can pound it away and get these kind of gains they will just add up wear the defense down get first downs and ultimately get some points 6yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four running back goes in motion touch pass on the run and there was nowhere to go just stopped in his tracks in the back field really good job by the defense seeing it and going and getting it nice job understanding the touch pass it could happen those guys go in motion man I got to understand safety's got to see that start flying down getting ready to play that nice job by the defense being ready for that play now the play fake looking to the big tight end oh picked off bringing it back he's at the 40 the 20 and they capitalized not only on the pick but the great return to give the offense tremendous field position and they were most fortunate to catch up to him there he almost turned that into a pick six man and he had a convoy too as soon as he had the ball he just looked around him there was just a lot of open green and he took off great job by his teammates on defense getting down field and setting up some blocks the canes have it in scoring position on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the Run he bullies his way all the way down to the 5 yd line [Applause] now it's second and goal the run up the middle trying to power to the goal line Relentless top R and gets it down to the four all right so now you're in this third down situation close to the goal line and it just feels David like they're going to have to throw the football in order to score a touchdown here I like maybe trying to get the quarterback outside on the perimeter and give him a run pass option I like that too get the quarterback on the move and here's the thing if I get close and I get stopped it's Fourth Down fourth down means go for it that's all that means now today in college football well on Third and short in field goal range they dial up the pass play quarterback was trying to get through his progressions there was just simply nobody open couldn't make it accurate enough throw ball Falls incomplete Now setting up a big decision here on fourth down now on fourth down here comes the field goal team and he'll try fire it from the right hash and the angle shouldn't be too bad from this distance that is no good and here in the second quarter we remain all kned up well that's one the kicker would like to have back that's a kick he should be making [Music] in Florida has the ball back and here comes the offense after that last pick David they really need to take care of the ball this time no doubt and Paul I want to know what spur said to you on the sideline after a pick do that again and you'll be right here beside me for the rest of the game you got to go out you got to call your plays and I hope this coaching staff isn't going to be afraid to throw at this [Applause] D running game worked on first down let's see if they go back to it on second down give to the running back nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry everybody talks about DBS they talk about dropping in coverage and not being physical that DB begs to differ great tackle coming up playing physical like a linebacker now facing a third and long dropping back it's MERS unloads to the right all kinds of room to throw that one in there and he was loose and not stopped until he gets to the 47 yd line man this offense is so dangerous ree they've got dudes all over the field that can make plays there's a big gainer in the pass game you get a chunk of yards like that now the defense is really on its heels that big explosive play carries them into plus territory they'll snap it first and 10 from just across the 50 leaves it with the back looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down he's looking to throw quickly complete and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few yeah and that was tough on the DB right he's trying to cover the receiver on a drag route running back over the middle of the field you're trying to to avoid all the linebackers all the congestion he just couldn't stay with them long enough and as a result fresh set of downs for the offense tring play action throws for the tight end intercepted the return never really got started but boy he has set his team up at the 28 this is obviously not a great start for this quarterback here two interceptions already in this game he's got to do a much better job with his decision making here comes the hurricane offense looking to gather a little more strength you want to talk about taking the wind out of your sails Drive the ball down the field and miss the field goal D nothing but green ahead pass the 30 the 10 touchdown Miami and once he got loose it was all over when that receiver got free it was all over and it's so nice to have a receiver like this as a quarterback cuz you had my stats I like those long touchdown passes where I just threw it really short and he did the rest of the work [Applause] they'll try to add another to their lead and the pat gives him a 14-7 lead that's the kind of Drive everybody loves OC see quarterback One Snap put it in the end zone almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown Ki he'll start the return inside his SP didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 the gator sending the offense back to work boy they had that last Drive moving a little bit David but then the mistake just crushed them yeah and those mistakes are going to happen you going to throw the football you're going to throw interceptions but I think I stay aggressive with this offense I get back to what I did in the first part of that Drive what made me successful I agree David just turn the page if you're a quarterback right on this drive you did a lot of good things there leading up to that pick forget about it move on play the next play the clock has reached the two-minute Mark and they have a chance to at least cut into this lead before the break let's see what they've got on second down looking downfield it's mer just not quite able to make the connection incomplete all right that's a good result for the defense we knew coming into this year they wanted to really improve their pass defense and their secondary and coverage nice job there not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 the lone backs got it and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop timeout is called and it's the defense wanting to make sure that that everyone's on the same page for this big down the gator will try to pin them back with the punt he'll try to really get into this one slips through the line he's brought down but a really solid effort to pick up every bit of yardage he could on the punt return and here comes that Miami offense back onto the field he wants to start this drive with a pass he's got an open man and they'll f finally catch up to him but not before a big chunk of yardage is picked up it must be nice for this quarterback knowing he's got this type of athlete playing the tight end position they can work the middle of the field form him he's a guy who can stretch it vertically as well but this is a guy the QB will look for early and often in this game it'll be first and 10 from the 30 makes the catch it's little and he's brought down after a nice game it is so good for an offense early in the game to get in a rhythm and to start stringing first downs together it makes the game really easy and puts that defense in a situation where they're starting to get tired they want to sub they want to get other guys on the field stringing first downs together like this makes it hard to defend they're in the red zone and they'll pass it snagged in the middle H Martinez nice Patience by the quarterback here working against Zone coverage he was allowing his receiver an opportunity to find find that open space in the defense before pulling the [Applause] trigger that completion leaves us with second and medium on the move it's Ward finds his back in the middle and they wrap him up but not before he's got enough for the first down timeout called by the offense and now they just have one remaining in the half and the canes have it with a first and goal the snap sets up to throw it's complete they Mark him down at the two the excellent execution on that throw and catch yeah and you see running backs in today's football they play about receiver basically for you but you got to find a guy that you can throw it to and you know he's going to catch the ball consistently this will likely be the last play of the half we've got a timeout in the remaining seconds of the half maybe a chance to get off a couple more plays and here on second down they'll send out the field goal unit to try to get three before the break and this one splits the uprights and now the lead extended a little far Miami [Music] so they get the late field goal right before the half and not much time after this kickoff for an answer from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position coverage team dare to make the stop they avoid disaster and that's the end of the first half we've played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connor in our halftime update phyas what an environment there today all the animosity and Flatout hatred that comes with a good old-fashioned rivalry game on display in that first half and there is no better place to start this halftime than by reviewing how this wide out has been a Onan Wrecking cre the kid's been everywhere and I love how he's willing to go across the middle but that he also has the Jets to burn these DBS on the Deep ball if this defense wants to actually come back in this one they better hide his cleats with that let's throw it back to the guys to see how this rivalry matchup plays out he'll bring it out it's Hawkins not nearly as much as he'd hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he he'll be stopped at the 15 Florida has the ball back and here comes the offense down two possessions to start this third quarter they'd love to build some early momentum you ain't lying cuz you only got so many possessions here in the second half so now you're down I got to maximize every single one put your best plays together start this drive off on a good note yeah it starts right here obviously you can't get it all back on this drive but you can create that momentum you can create something special and some energy but it's going to start with this offense here executing at a high level find just tight end and that was some kind of collision between a couple of big bodies there and he stopped from getting the first down a nice job by the defense there tackling the catch and smothering the tight end they know this offense is going to try to find him in the passing game in a lot of different situations that time perfect coverage and nice job bringing the big guy down not easy to do they try to pop a run on the draw they'll Mo those chains getting it out to the 29 yd line and trying to get this drive rolling and they just kind of sneak that one in there as a defensive guy third and five plus I'm thinking pass they were thinking pass Palmer and they slipped the run in and it's so nice then to have this guy at running back too right because you could throw it to him on third down or hand it off and he's got the vision and the athleticism to go pick up that first keep the drive going they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one well there's a statement by the defensive line first down play expecting run and they just dominated up front beat their one-on ones and force a tackle for a loss lost one on that last one it's second and 11 back to throw it's Merz makes his connection and how about that catch and run so dangerous this guy big play in the passing game there and I like receiver gearing down in the zone did a nice job finding the soft spot on defense between the Defenders giving the quarterback an easy target to throw to to complete that throw and the gator have their offense in high gear wants to throw on first down off the play fake and this will be incomplete a big hit there for his second down hey man if you're going to force incompletions when the QB's thrown to the tight end you better be physical nice job with the hit forcing that [Applause] incompletion L getting set on second down they'll give it to Johnson listen that wasn't the greatest run in the world but it was very successful and you're making me honor the run and another thing every time you run the football someone gets tackle there's physicality involved in the game so I like when offenses commit to the run in the football no matter what the outcome is because those body blows do add up on Third and long try to convert through the air grabbed in the middle it's Johnson makes the grab and it's enough for the first down before he's dragged to the ground well look that wasn't a touchdown but that was a massive play for this offense they needed some momentum they needed to find a rhythm in what better way than converting on third down awesome job by the quarterback getting through his progress [Applause] gets it out fast he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down this slot receiver is a guy the defense has to be careful of he runs good routes he's got some speed and if you're not careful this guy can gash [Applause] you and now on second down for this offense back to pass it's MERS he's got his man and he's knocked down but not before moving the chain I really like the slot receiver and I understand he's not the biggest guy in the world but he just runs really good routes and he's always under control he can run option rounds he can run double moves he does a great job cutting and he's dangerous after the catch nice weapon to have work in the middle of the field they want to just keep throwing it going to take a shot at this DB touchdown Gator reeled it in and just made the house call sometimes we ask coaches about halftime adjustments and they go blah blah blah blah blah and then sometimes they make some good ones sometimes that blah blah blah blah blah actually works but it's working now but it might be too little too late but at least you got the party start [Applause] he'll try to tack on one more extra [Applause] point and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer to a drive there of 84 yards and they finish it up with the final 30 yds coming courtesy of that touchdown pass kickoff team has the ball teed up in there about ready to go bringing it back really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 here comes the hurricane offense looking to gather a little more strength trying to start the drive with a pass got it in the middle into Royo and he laid the lumber to stop him from getting the first down I'll tell you I love the play call on first down here you're just trying to find an easy completion and the shortest throw on the field for the quarterback is finding your biggest Target and that's the tight end nice job still some work to do after that last completion it's second down off play action got it behind the line it's mccormic wrestled down at the 32 after a pick up of five it's not a great feeling on defense too when you're blitzing you're expecting to get a sack you're expecting to get get a hit on the quarterback if the offensive line and running backs pick it up uh-oh because now you have one less guy in the back end trying to cover all these receivers and tight ends and you know you're in trouble with a first down they'll snap it from the 32 and a good solid pick up for the defense Cuts him down you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four keeps it on the boot leg looking to throw throws to the wide out a strike downfield and they're getting it rolling with that play to the 42 yd line man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out the hurricanes are moving quickly down the field and it's incomplete but the penalty flag has fallen in the holding Zone let's see what the call is holding penalties the ultimate Drive killer we'll see if it costs this offense here they'll turn to Martinez J a solid stop by this [Applause] sophomore after trying to running game let's see if they do it again on second [Applause] down just feeds the running back and a decent gain there before the defense makes the stop third [Applause] [Music] [Applause] down decb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down looking to throw and he needs a chunk play he uncorks one fires a bullet now it's picked off and the offense makes the tackle in frustration after the interception Drive comes up empty and it's a turnover third and long is difficult you have to push the ball down the field nothing worse than watching people Dink and dunk on Third and long and get tackled and run the pl it on I like the aggressiveness try to push the ball down the field it's not the worst thing in the world you throw an in it's kind of like opponent the gator sending the offense back to work this is a game of swings and momentum and a great opportunity here after scoring on the L last Drive getting a stop and now you have the football back they're playing well right now in all three phases and they're complimenting each other so now David it's up to the offense here it's up to this quarterback to lead this offense down the field to get a score yeah and to stay aggressive to to understand we've had success we got this going the right way now I don't need to change anything go back to your go-to plays that's now got you some momentum back in your [Applause] favor when you're dealing with a def sit like this it's all about somebody stepping up to make a play and you might as well start here in the fourth quarter the hand off to Johnson found just enough Running Room he picks up four to the [Applause] 15D they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one dropping back it's MERS they're working that left side big big gain on that one as he steps out of bounds with a first down and as a defense how scary is it having to defend this guy he's one of the fastest players in America and you saw it on that last play it's not necessarily throwing him the ball over your head they just get it to him quickly the hard part now is running and tackling that guy not easy to do the gator will have it first and 10 it'll be a draw piit up the first down still moving all down at the 39 yd line but he's got 15 yds on the play and a fresh set of BS just a great job by the quarterback the running back the offensive line sneaky little devs what do they do make it look like pass sneak in the Run catch you off guard great play call by the offense from the 39 Y Line it's first and 10 wide open downfield and they reacted well to the completion but it was 2o L to keep him from getting the first down yeah you've seen these Co routes this is a timing route understand that Ball's got to come out of my hand right when he hits the top of that curl nice job by the QB finding him nice catch they've got it inside the 30 at the 28 first down he's going to pass pass he'll take a shot and it was worth going for a chunk play but the long pass is incomplete and listen as a quarterback you're trying to find the matchup trying to find who's open I don't know if anybody was open but that was not a greatly thrown football I don't know if it was miscommunication but the ball thrown out of bounds and I just on to the next down after the misconnection it's second down they'll give it to Johnson and he's able to sh one tackle and pick up pretty good yardage and a nice job by the running back finding space getting downhill making the good run great job finishing with his pads already in Chip Shot field goal range at the 21 but this third and short they're still thinking touchdown they'll try to power their way ahead and the defense had its hands full but they finally wrestle him down short the first down [Music] faing so now we'll line up for one of the biggest kicks of this game and he'll kick for the three from 36 yds out in the right hatch between the uprights it's good guys we have a tie ball game here in the four this kicker has ice water in his veins fourth quarter you need to make the Feld go to tie it up and that kid just drilled [Music] it we've got a Dandy going here all tied up in the fourth quarter and about to kick it away just into the end zone and he'll bring it out he's brought down at the 16 would have been much better off to take the touch back and here comes that Miami offense back onto the field that last Drive was promising for a while but you just can't mess it up at the end with the pick Jesse no you've got to be able to finish drives especially in this game if you're going to win in David they've got to be able to eliminate the metal mistakes yeah and I don't think you get conservative or play it safe you can trust your guy I think you put the ball right back in his hands and let him do his thing after up a couple at second and eight wants to throw it's Ward he's got his man able to work it to the 39 yd line and that'll be a first down defense just didn't have an answer there on the slant throw once the completion was made they just couldn't get to the ball carrier and get him down on the ground they'll snap it from the 39 first and 10 he's looking to throw it with the catch it's George they make the stop but not before they do their work up top and pick up a first down he these wide receivers are so athletic out wide now you're so worried about getting beat deep and these slant routes they can be a good change up I mean just couple steps stick your foot in the ground come inside it might not be huge gains all the time but man it keeps that DB off balance from the shotgun they'll run it and a nice solid pick up there before the defense wrestles him to the ground see they need more runs like that just it's been so few and far between defensively they've been in position they've been winning their one-on-one battles getting on blocks and rallying to the ball carrier this defense has done a nice job slowing down the Run game this far right back to it and they'll stop him just short of the first down just inches away from moving the step and that's the problem with blitzing on defense you live by the blitz you die by the blitz defense dialed up the pressure but the offense had a better play call they ran it away from the Blitz and that's why they were able to be successful it would be nice to pick up a few yards on third down because from here it's a 57 yd attempt open space at the 25 and he was looseing in the open field and on his way a tremendous pick up on that one and he just continues to put up numbers and that number is now over 300 this guy just throws completions man the ball doesn't seem to touch the ground round he's back there he's making the right reads right now he is locked in what this defense is trying to do the clock has stopped as we have reached the two-minute warning here in the ball game defense backed up in this crowd trying to will them to get a big stop late looking for a physical attack from the gun he'll be brought down at the 5 yd line and this defense is on its heels it's all tied up this offensive line they want the pressure they want everything to go through them here they're saying look let's just run the ball let's get this thing down closer and closer to the goal line let's bleed some clock and put ourselves in position to win they believe they can run right here touchdown caves and that one will give him the lead what a great game tied late in the ball game who's going to make the big play they come up with it late Take the Lead nice execution it's hard to execute in these moments people get tight the score is tied late in the game I don't want to mess up but this offense doesn't worry about messing up they put the ball in the end zone and take the [Applause] lead they'll line up for the extra point and at this
