Olly Stone relishing England Test return three years after career-saving surgery

he makes it look effortless this shot or he's bookkeeping first of all congratulations o and thanks for joining us but before we get on to today I want to take you back five years ago to your test debut here at Lords what are your memories and emotions from that day yeah it's obviously a very special day um to to play at this ground um is special regardless but to to make my test debut here was was a special one and obviously um to come out here and and play front of a a packed house was was amazing and yeah it would be great to come out again this week and and do the same yeah absolutely it's been an incredible journey for you you know you've had surgery just around the corner here and a few injuries along the way um what's been your motivation and your drive to get back to this format I mean pulling on an England shirt in any format is special but to for to do it in test Cricket that that hard graft after a long hard thought day there's nothing nothing quite like it and I guess that's the reason it it kept me going and wanting to come back out here and experience it again and I feel like like I say you you can't get that feeling in any other Cricket so to to come out here and and do it again is I guess has spurred me on and and to keep me coming back for more you've played the 100 here for the London Spirit you've had a run out at at Durham away for Nottingham Shire do you feel ready for test match intensity right now yeah I do I mean I feel like I found found a way this year to to keep going and and obviously to be to be ready ready for for whatever sort of cricket is is is happening so um I feel ready um hopefully I can I can go out there and and perform the way I know I can and and hopefully take a few wickets alongside that yeah absolutely we know the baz and stok Sierra Oly Pop's going to be capured today they're quite clear on their roles have you had a conversation of what your role will be in this game uh not really I guess obviously we've seen the way that the guys have gone about it um and this summer so I guess the thing is to go to go out there and not do too much Sim dissimilar to to what's got me picked I guess um obviously you want to be aggressive and hostile but also you need to show that skill to be able to take the wickets so I think for me it's it's going out there and and Performing the way that I've performed this year for Nots to get me to this to this stage so I feel like yeah to go out there and be aggressive but also be skillful with that I suppose you're replacing Mark Wood who's you bowled extremely quickly this summer is there any sort of pressure that you've replacing that light for like and you've got to try come in and Bowl 95 97 mph or you just going to be oi Stone the best version of Oly Stone I feel like I'm just going to be myself I mean I'd like to hit 97 not sure that's quite possible for me um obviously Woody's Woody's been hitting some frightening speeds um but no I think go out there and be be myself and and if if it if it doesn't come off then at least I know I've gone out there and been myself rather than going out there trying to be trying to be someone else I feel like with fast bowling the quicker you try and Bowl the slower actually it comes out so to go out there and be relaxed for me hopefully that the speeds will then will then correlate with that so yeah not go out there and and try and be anyone else part for myself play with a smile on my face and hopefully the wickets will come no absolutely I'm delighted to see you back at this level mate all the best thank you very much
