shall not be denied on account of race that would be that one women no on account of sex that's 19th Amendment 19 yeah 24th is about failure to pay taxes and 26th is uh based on age um something about View on [Applause] ABC Charlie McLean's new Memoir I'm over all that and other confessions covers everything from her fabulous life with the biggest names in Hollywood to her UFO encounters but in the makeup room this morning we couldn't get past part where she said she has sex with three guys in one day yes we've got to get to the bottom of this please welcome back Shirley mlan baby sex and come on over here sit down you number oh God why did you Le with that because everybody czy we want to hear everything who were they where were you how was it you don't tell the names no I can't do it I why did you lead with that and that's what they it's make like makeup trailer girl talk about this because we like to hear it because when we were talking about it you know we were like well how many of you had in one day and and how many confessions B confessed her her sin but how about you no you know what it was I was bored I thought I want some color in my it was on a political campaign Jo oh dangerous yeah wait a minute we're getting close to what the names are never mind and uh you know what happens on a political campaign everybody thinks they're moving their furniture around in the white house and they can do anything and so uh it all was very funny was kind of early in the I had to space It Out by the way you know oh really like how many hours it but say all together like an hour a piece oh and I was basic that's getting in and getting out that's no all the old in and out yeah getting in took longer getting out like that I was in control but you know Shirley you said it you said is that the end of this conversation no no it's kind of but but it's oh I'm sorry cuz it was kind of interesting what you said about you had said with you had a lot of Affairs but you didn't have a lot of sex so I said that mhm I said it wrong no you know you know when you had a lot of love affairs you know it was it wasn't it wasn't the sexual thing that got you with having the affair of course that's right that didn't mean no sex that meant you're you're I was really involved with the man right sex was an extra added attraction basically but you had like like emotional attraction as well when you were you were married what 33 years to Steve Parker and then you said that you had relationships outside of that too did you want divorce or was it just something was it not the time your pictures yeah we have good pictures really good pictures look at that smile but you had an open marriage with Steve right he had women and I had men I'm glad it was that way could have been the other way could have been you never know but we're old fashioned yeah considering now yeah listen I want to talk about one of your roles that I'm told might actually be your favorite which is Aurora oh I love you from Terms of Endearment why is she why does she she was unabashedly expressive and and she didn't care really what anybody thought well she thought she was terribly entertaining anyway and she and she was but she had compassion and humor and no about her she was just very uh and and and articulate in her criticism you know right right I just loved her I mean if somebody wanted to do a half hour comedy show uh with a live audience cuz I love the live audience uh I would do it if wonderful HBO could do something like that cuz it's it's a high level type of it wouldn't have a laugh track it would be a dramedy because where's the audience oh the audience yeah you could do it you could do it there's a way to do it you just shoot the camera would just be a film camera but you'd have an audience there I want to hear their reaction that's that's what I live with and my little show that I'm doing around the country you know I'm doing a retrospective and I have a what do you call these clickers and uh I and I turn off the the screen cuz it's got my movies television singing dancing all that stuff on it it's pretty it's pretty good when I look back on my life how that I do all that done at all and then I tell them stories right and then they ask me questions they yell them out from the audience and I love that interaction well you're a live performer do you have any regrets about your life at all is there anything you look back and you say I should have I could have or I didn't you know I'm I won't be quip about it I I don't Joy no no nothing well don't ask me to think too hard yeah don't think so no because I I consider all of it a basic uh learning experience really and even the real bad stuff but usually people say they regret what they didn't do is there anything you didn't do not much uhuh no you write about it all which is so fascinating it is you also I'm sorry I didn't want to interrupt you go ahead you you also wrote about which was really interesting is that uh the movies that you did most of the movies you did you were attracted to uh your male co-stars and you wrote in particular about Robert Mitchum but you said that Robert Mitchum was a lesson in contradictions what what what did you mean when you said that well he was you do you guys remember him we do yeah we do this side of couch remembers that's it so he you know what his movies are on TCM all the time he was a Wonder little kids and stuff and he was so smart and that's what nobody really understood he was really quite brilliant he could read a script once and he had photographic memory and was it stay there but I love the contradiction that it used this big powerful don't mess with me guy I used to ride the the rails as a hobo sort of thing and inside he was like a very fragile contradictory flower and in many ways emotionally a coward right well you also had relationships with world leaders God guys here they are I mean who are they really the Pierre Trudeau we know the Canadian president and Andrew Peacock of of Australia bad you guys are bad and this guy Olaf pal who was the for no he was Olaf Palama he was the smartest of all prime minister of Sweden yeah so now can I ask my Jack Lemon question I just want to know about Jack did you love working with him was he great to work a great actor he was a great actor he worked really hard Billy Wilder loved his talent I used to come in on our days off and watch him work uh but Billy made him do 18 takes just cuz he was in love with his talent and it was better the first five wow we need to Netflix the apartment Terms of Endearment Postcards From The Edge um some came running M's got an incredible filmography as you all will know so we're thanking Shirley is it over it's over that was it baby studio audience is getting to go home with the C of her book I'm over all that we'll be right back with Evan Rachel Wood so Evan Rachel Wood stars in a new movie called The Conspirator as the daughter of a Confederate widow who's counting on a union lawyer to save her mother from being hung as an accessory to the assassination of President Lincoln take a look did you fight in the war Mr aen uh-huh kill any on our side Mr do you have any documents indicating who stayed here or a lger of accounts do you want me to help your mother or not is there anything else you're concealing such as your brother's start look if you know yeah baby please welcome back Evan Rachel Wood [Laughter] so now this is an amazing story I loved this movie I have to tell you um it's a story of Mary Sarat who was the first woman hung in the United States of America first woman to ever be executed the death penalty that's right because it was supposed that because the conspirators met at her boarding house she must have known what was going on well and they also couldn't find her son who was supposedly involved and since they couldn't find him they pretty much settled for her so so when you read the script did it just knock you oh and by the way uh she's playing um she's playing who directed it Robert Redford Redford who's that guy you know what sometimes it's hot flashes sometimes it's memory look so I Robert Redford directed this so when you got the script and you read it what was your first response did you know the story I didn't know the story uh funny enough I I knew nothing about the Sarat family um and uh an was the only uh woman that took uh the stand uh for the trial um and I had no idea that there were also multiple attacks that night on the vice president on the secretary of state that there wasn't it wasn't just one man it's a fascinating time piece too when Robert reford said that you were intimidating when he first met you why is that do tell um I I don't know I mean I I I was just trying to take in everything that he was saying so I was really just staring at him and just trying looking in those blue eyes and uh yeah that's what he said he said had no idea what I was thinking and then I was intimidating well you like him as a director I loved him well he's an he's an actor and a brilliant one so you speak the same language it was so fun I want to let everybody know you play surat's daughter yes and so can you tell us what was the relationship between her daughter Anna and Mary what was the relationship between the two women they're very very close um because she's also a single mother and um so they were running this this boarding house uh together so it's quite heartbreaking I heard the film was said in the 19th century so you had to wear all those costumes which are not the most attractive by the way or comfortable yeah the hand will wear it also in those days but um but anyway um I heard that your clothing fell apart a lot why was that we were constantly followed around by seamstresses uh because a lot of them were really from that period so you know you yawn and it's like oh gosh oh they were really the stuff scratchy and everything just wearing them so now you this wasn't a story that you knew but were you surprised by some of the similarities in court drama shall we say yeah I mean it's you know we're not really taking a stance either way in the film but it it is hard not to see the parallels between when you know emotions get involved into politics and when you know it's not about Justice it's about revenge um so I thought that was pretty did you feel that they had railroaded Mary slightly a little bit I wanted to I mean I think the death penalty is a little harsh for her I wanted to take it to uh the HBO miniseries mild Pierce where you play Kate Winslet's daughter in the film when you met her they said you got a little emotional when you met Kate Winsley I did well she's my favorite actress and I I uh the first day of rehearsal I was in the elevator ride up and I did I had to wipe a couple tears away it was a very big moment for me she taught you right she cached you kind of through because you had a nud scene your first I had my first did she talk you into it um she did slightly talk me into it I was going to chicken it out I was really going to Chick it out and she was like look listen to me I've done everything all right and it's going to be it's going to be fine you're going to be so brave and you're just going to put a Merin on you'll be all right and I was like a what tell the audience what a merkin is cuz I really was not that without being too graphic uh like for for instance I had to wear a wig in the film because it was the 1930s but everything had to look like the 1930s including your curtains huh my bits and pieces a wig at the bottom is called a meran and they B yeah basically me and me and the makeup is her best friends now because she had to glue it on to me and you're very close now very close we're like this no JJ in that movie here's an interesting Factor before we go out I heard that you were going to be in Spider-Man but your schedule changed and you missed it you could have been in that accidental play shall we call it but you missed it aren't you lucky well I mean I adore I adore Julie and I really do and I um you know I my heart out them it really does I mean what are you going to do well you know what we're we're glad that your schedule changed because we got to see The Conspirator and got to see mil Pierce you're just fabulous we love you thank you Evan Rachel Wood The Conspirator will be in theaters today when we come back the surviving member of Millie vanil is telling us where he is now well we know he's back there but he's going to tell us more we'll be right back [Applause] [Applause] girl you know it's true [Applause] [Music] oh in 1990 Fab morvan and Rob patus better known as Millie vanelli we're on top of the charts and on top of the world hits like girl you know it's true had them selling millions of Records touring internationally and winning the Grammy for Best new artists until they were exposed in one of the biggest scandals in music history they hadn't sung a note and were lipsyncing over other singers voices the backlash was fierce and for the first time ever in the Grammy Awards history the Grammy was given back take a look we give this Grammy back now to the record Academy and we recommend our buddies who did the real voices who got seduced Like Us in Germany BR uh Brad Howell and Sean Davis are the real singers and I think they should get they should get this graming right Rob pus would never recover from the Scandal dying of a drug overdose in 1998 now over 20 years later the surviving member of Millie vanil is here to tell us how he got through it and where he is now please welcome Fab morvan Fab pleasure to be here thank you thank you so much for coming on the show welcome so that was 20 years ago I'm sure a lot of stuff goes around in your head when you see that video but since then you have been a French teacher a radio DJ an artist a public speaker what have you been doing I've been doing many things and uh music has been part of my life and uh when everything crashed down I after some so searching I realized that I couldn't live without it so I kept going and evolving as an artist you have to evolve and you have to reinvent yourself people might say what have You' been in for the past 20 years I've been in the studio I've been evolving so that I when it was time for me to come out to do something really that was um that was strong and powerful and relevant artistically at the same time and yours something that had your voice to but I I what I did is after Rob Steph I I worked on an album called Love Revolution and um I wrote a song for him on that album but they allowed me to channel the pain and you know life in in life everything happens for a reason you don't know why I inside 2020 then you look and you said wow I was supposed to go through there and it made me a better human being a better artist so when I talk about pain in a song a love or friendship cuz I love someone very duar to me I know exactly what I'm talking about can you go back in time for us to I mean the height of your career in 1990 um when the producer of this music comes to you and explains that the the voices aren't going to be yours there's going to be lip syncing how what was cuz obviously you know you want to be in the industry I can imagine right and you're talented so there's probably hope that it's going to be your voice eventually how did that all happen we devastated because you know we we we signed a first of all we signed a recording contract and we were going to be you know it was going to be everything was going to up and up it was up but then they had a plan and what happened was someone s on the record they had a plan we walked right into the Trap and one record deal right one a little bit of advanced money and before you know it they trapped us they give us more money more money more money very little for us but we had nothing to time and then when they said well you know you you're going to have to lip sync we're like no we're out well no you're not out because the the punch line is you have to give the money back and then we we couldn't pay that money back so we were trapped in order to to get out with to go deeper in and once you get in in the lifestyle then you really kind of get seduced and and they knew it would happen you know we have a photo of the actual the people whose voices were used look at the picture there they are those two guys on the end now do you do you think that the band have made it if they used those two they needed the two of you I think well you decide uhhuh no well you can't see them too easily but not just take anything away from them but I'm just saying it it was U it it was a combination and it was the time at the same time and um we gave our best we entertained millions of people and it was a lot of fun there was I'm sorry goe I was going to say didn't they tell you that your accents were too strong and that's why they didn't want you singing no there was straight up a plan and we walked straight into the Trap we didn't know because we're we were fresh to the game it all come out cuz I mean there was there was one story that you were on stage and the record broke and then you guys ran off stage but that was and what did the public really find out ironically enough Frank fyan came to New York and Frank was a producer yeah and told the world yeah the guy created everything but because we were not willing we pulled the plug and he told us I took you in I took you out and he sure did yes he did you said uh when you guys were nominated for that Grammy for the best new artist you said you were hoping that you would lose but you won what was that moment like when you when you w was like you know we're backstage we just finished performing G no through and we were holding up our breath backstage and um know waiting for the MC waiting for the MC to call on him and then when they call on him it was just like stressed out but we had to keep a smile received the awards and dedicated to all the awards to to all the the artists out there with a dream and that's all we could do but you know we had a secret and but it's it's it's sad because I was reading that you have a beautiful voice that your voice coach said that you and your partner could sing like pavar can you sing a little give as a matter of fact I have something coming out uh today on iTunes call anytime so I'll give you a little something okay oh how many times can I tell you how many ways can I show I'm never ever going to be to kind of give up or the on to let go oh you built a wall around your heartache but I'm going to tear it down tear it down as far as I am concerned nothing's going to get in my way my way my way wow you have a beautiful you have a beautiful beautiful voice love them you're so talented this is coming out this is coming out today on iTunes today on iTunes that's excellent we'll be downloading I got to say too there's a u Millie vinil story is about to come out in film right they're going to tell your story what part did you have of it and also did Rob's family do they approve I talked to Carmen patus I can I talk to Carmen Pilatus every two weeks his sister you know yeah his sister and uh actually she's the one who picked him out of the lot when the when her parents uh chose him she said I want him okay so she was very close to us I don't know we're going to see right now we're in the rewrites and um you know Kine Kennedy is is the producer and Jeff nson is screenwriter okay and Floren Gallagher is the director well thank you Fab thank you so much for coming back and setting the record straight we love you thanks to fat we'll be right back been hearing them in rehearsal so they sound pretty good we're excited about this hey so the location for I confess was it a strip joint the video it was yes it was okay so how did talk about the process there you knew all right well I don't always go to strip clubs but when I do I like to go at 10:00 in the morning cuz girls are working at 10:00 in the morning they deserves some attention too yeah we have coffee know that but you know by the way you have to say we we talked about it here on the show your performance at the Olympics was I mean breathtaking so emotional I know that it was for you Allelujah hands down and wonderful G fire well song is is it's it's the song the song makes it easy I mean uh there's so much content in that in that song in that lyrics in the melody that that you never get tired of singing it that's why everyone in his dog has recorded it but um yeah it was it was a big moment for me being in in my home Home Country singing a Leonard Cohen song it was pretty touched across the yeah and I was up like 90 MERS on a like a little tiny round stage and I thought yeah just watch me go over the edge it was pretty fantastic and another talk about a smaller Arena but not much Glee because you saying You're a Mean One Mr Grinch for their album yes well how did that how did that come about I was asked to do it and I you know like anybody jumps at the chance of being on Glee so yeah and that's also a great song I mean it's just a wonderful song there's not much you can do vocally with that song I mean it is what it is it is what it is but it's good but it's a good one do you watch it now uh once in a while yeah that's good that's good they're getting new fans all the time you know we're so excited to hear you sing today here to perform confess
