How to play NYT Connections game? Tips and Tricks to get better | Candid.Technology

technology and in this video we're talking about nyt Connections the latest nyt game taking the World by storm the New York Times has come out with a new game it's called connections it's a daily game much like wle and it plays with words where you have to group words that share a common thread now that can be anything or any relation between the four words playing it is also very easy you just head over to the New York Times website you will uh see the game section the link will be in the description below uh you see the connections thing you click the button and you're in the game now this is all that there is to it you will see uh 16 words and they are divided into four categories so yellow for the easiest green for medium difficulty blue for hard and purple for very hard and that's about it you start connecting words that you think have a Common Thread between them you click submit when you have four words if you want to change a word you can just unclick it select another one or you can just click the deselect all button to wipe the Slate clean uh so let me show you with an example so let's say I see a thread between Ranch cattle barbecue and uh Grill all right um these four words seem related but when you click submit that's a wrong grouping and that is because words in connections are not always what they seem to be so you only get four tries which means you have to be really really considerate of what you choose as words so how do you play the game here what's the play so one very easy group of words in today's connections is uh statement Bill receipt and invoice now these four words are clearly related right as you can see uh we click submit and we're good to go that's those four words are related as they all transaction records and now this is where the first tip of the game comes in you have a button called Shuffle and you can use this unlimited time now the puzzle is put together in a way that the initial arrangement of the letters is meant to confuse you this varies from game to game and since it's a daily game it updates every day but on most days the layout of the words will confuse you so that's where you can use the shuffle button to change change this order this will jog your memory help you see some links better and so on and so forth so make sure to use that shuffle button every time you're stuck just click Shuffle start a fresh and you will be able to spot more words in here now I want to bring your attention to another thing which is that words don't necessarily mean what you might think they do what does that mean that means uh let's say we have uh cattle Grill Ranch and barbecue these four words are clearly related right we're talking about a potential food chain but if I select this we just did and the answer was wrong that's because Grill also can be used with examine question probe and these for Words which is what an interrogation might mean so Grill here is not the grill you eat but the grill you do in questioning and so if I click submit that should be my green uh or the medium word link next up we have the one away thing so what happens is uh let me give you an example let me select I barbecue Ranch uh wait marinara and uh BR all right now if I click submit it will show one away that means one of my four words is wrong uh so in this case that would be broth because if I click Ranch instead these four are dipping sources I click submit and that's my word group and now finally ancestry cattle broth and merchandise now you might ask what is the collection what is the connection between these four words and these are what potentially stock might mean once you click submit this would be the final piece of the puzzle and you'll be good to go all right another important thing that you should keep in mind is to break down bigger words and visualize phrases what does that mean uh for example in the grill examine question and uh probe word link if I submit this is the green wordlink right so Grill here means to grill someone else which means you need to visualize the word and not really go with the obvious meaning that you might catch at first uh this also applies to bigger words like for example putting merchandise in ancestry uh and even broth and cattle in the same group now generally purple words or the hardest groupings will be the last ones left so they will usually be the obvious choice but in case you still busy spotting them if you can notice here if you break down these words and look away from what they traditionally mean you will be able to spot this right up front now keep in mind that this is a daily puzzle so and progress is stored locally so once you've played the puzzle if you want to replay it you can just close the window open a new incognito window and it will work just fine or alternatively you can just wait for the new puzzle to come in as you can see uh my next puzzle will appear at in 7 hours 30 minutes so it refreshes every day at midnight that's the thing you need to keep in mind about Connections so let me just refresh this slate and we can get back to talking more about the game so how do you get better at connections um can't really help you there as it depends a lot on your vocabulary and how well you can see words linking with each other but generally reading a lot knowing your pop culture references or knowing other references where words can mean two things can help you get better at connections this is not something you'll become good overnight at you'll have to give it a fair bit of time and effort and read up a bunch of stuff and have a dictionary or something like that on hand so that you can refer to what the words mean but if you're willing to work a little bit on it and just give it 30 seconds or a minute every
