NFL LIVE🔴 Tennessee Titans vs New Orleans Saints | Preseason Week 3 Full Game 25th August 2024 NFL25

is here a fourth exhibition game is a thing of the past it's the Tennessee Titans and the New Orleans Saints and it's coming right up on EA Sports first open in 1975 resurrected in 2006 we welcome you inside the Caesar super dog the home of the Saints here in downtown New Orleans so good to have you with us Mike too Greg ssen up here in the booth and Greg this is one of those games that it's a little old school maybe if it was in black and white it would be fitting right we got a couple of teams love to hand it off and see their running backs do it on the ground it's just so cool and you mentioned it Mike maybe 10 15 years ago this would have been the norm On Any Given weekend but we're seeing the game Trend to more of a passing style offense if you want to score points it mostly comes through the air so for these two kind of throwback offenses that heavily on the running backs anybody that loves old school Power football I think we're in for a treat final dress rehearsal before the regular season gets started in a couple of weeks time off we go here in the NFL preseason finale and he'll be brought down just beyond the 25 yd line following the kickoff we have an injured player on the field you hope against hope here in the preseason especially that it's not too serious so they come to the line for first down and 10 on play action here's Lis they'll be forced to just throw that one away it's incomplete you can't fault the quarterback on this one like he really didn't even have much of an opportunity by the time he hit the top of his drop and got his eyes down the defense was all over him he really had no choice but to just get that out of his and live the play another snap they go play action with Lis that one knocked away it is incomplete very good job defensively stay right with and will bring up third down they told us this week they were going to try to come out fast and tell you what that's exactly they did immediate and let know you defade of grass we're coming out even though that falls incomplete it goes a long way setting up the rest of game as the game unfolds when you're willing to throw the ball short of the scks Third you know what that tells me Mike the decision to go for it on fourth down has already been made if you're able to pick it up with yards after the catch great but if not it's ath and and you give yourself a realistic shot of conting on thisth [Applause] down and that's a nice job of getting to him making sure that return was not going anywhere the Saints coming out and the veteran them it's their quarterback Derek Carr nine years with the Raiders now year two with the Saints Greg for a man who's now 33 years old there's no denying he is a passionate and productive NFL quarterback but as good as he is Mike he just hasn't quite found a way to get over the hump to join that upper echelon of elite quarterbacks he has this big arm he can sling it all over the field but that big arm is also what gets him into trouble sometimes he needs to find happy medium between taking care of the ball while still being aggressive and if he can do that he'll have as good a chance as any to come out and a good effort there defensively it's kned away and incomplete was a fine line between trusting your arm and having a little bit too much faith in your arm right I think this was one of those situations here Mike where there was nowhere to go with the ball he tries to fit that one in there anyway and he's lucky that it just Falls incomplete car now on second down this one is caught by Jaan Johnson and Mark them down up beyond the 30 it's a pick up of 13 y first down New Orleans not a whole lot complicated about this play Mike that was understanding where the holes of the defense were remember in this Zone coverage you got to find green grass get past the first down marker be friendly the quarterback and then the ball has to be out on time before those Zone Defenders can react to the receiver it's exactly how it played out here you can drop all the fancy plays you want but when the quarterback and the receiver see it through the same set of eyes it's virtually impossible to stop they'll try again here second and 10 First Carry now for Elvin CRA and nothing on that one back to the line SC and that is it these Edge rushers they are judged by their sack totals Mike they love to rush the passer but they have responsibilities in the Run game as well great job here keeping it to no game here's a third and 10 back is Carr the pressure gets there and down he goes a sack if you're going to take a sack you just can't add to it by taking such a massive loss on top of it understand when the pocket breaks down move up cut your losses now not only do you lose that down but now you face a big uphill battle if you want to extend this drive so fourth down they'll turn to Lou Headley here to punt and back deep for the Titans it's Mason Kinsey this returnable from inside is own 40 and it's a good solid return as he takes it back up near Midfield the Titans offense ready to possess the football for the second time they'll search for the first points of this game as they begin the drive on First and 10 [Applause] from the gun it's l his it's ch recognizing the blitz is just the first step in the process for a quarterback understanding who you can account for with the protection and then who you can't account for that's where your hot receiver comes in he points their's receiver who the defender they hot off of that guy comes gets the ball out of his hand and results in a completion off the play it's l a throw right side taken in by Boy and they'll whistle him down but not before he picks up a first down after a gain of seven [Applause] out of the shotgun Lis looking middle and he's got Ridley after the catch gets forward for aain of [Applause] n second and a yard the tight end okono is in motion throwing on second down and that's a first down it will be a gain of eight there's this misconception out there Mike that in the NFL you have to run the same amount of run plays as you do pass plays everyone talks about being balanced but as you're seeing in this drive you can fall on one side of that coin a little bit more as long as you're able to remain effective and efficient so far their passing game has dominated here early and that last pick up leads for a first down Tony the intended receiver out of the back field and it'll bring up second down up until that incompletion they've done a really nice job on this drive Mike picking up fresh sets of downs and typically throwing the ball on first down is a great way to do it it's actually the easiest down in football to in but now they find themselves in second and 10 do you keep it in the air and try to get the first down here or is the idea to just make third down manageable and take your chances picking up a key third down it's a gain of 13 and it's first and [Applause] goal here's Spears a short G down to the [Applause] seven second and goal Lis and that's going to be incomplete coverage was good that time the contact jarring the ball and forcing third down he's got to find a way to hold on to that one I mean you're right on the doorstep of the end zone and listen I understand that hit is coming but guess what that hit's coming whether you catch it or not and you get paid to make the difficult catches and I would classify that one as tough but you got to make that catch give your team a chance to come away with this drive some points to reach to the go line but he's going to come up just wow it's going to set up fourth down these are the worst I had a couple years Mike where I swear I got tackled inside the one yd line 10 times and then you look back and you're like man how many TDS did I leave on the board I couldn't get one more yard now powering forward he's in Tony par touchdown Tennessee so they decide to go for the touchdown and Greg they get rewarded on Fourth and goal with the six points yeah I think the safe bet there is you settle for the field goal and you're happy coming off the field with points but not this play caller he rolls the dice a little bit but give credit to the offensive line they created just enough of a lane for this back to take it in for six the veteran Nick fol here for the extra point the kick is good and the Titans will take a seven nothing lead e seven nothing is our score as this kick is sent into the air a return now from the four he'll work his way across the 25 yd line the Saints offense ready for their second possession they were forced to punt the first time through it led to a touchdown so down seven nothing as they get the ball back for first and 10 they'll come up here first and 10 they'll motion their tight end Johnson on first down they'll start out with camra he'll move the pile forward let's give him a couple harell Landry they're on the tackle they'll come up on a second down and eight here's Carr throwing from the pistol left side into the hands of they get 19 on that pass play it's good for a Saints first down and really the key to this play was just how fast he was able to get through his progressions his mind was able to process and go from one to two to three so quickly that he was able to get the ball to the right Target on time and I think so often those two things are different being open is one thing being open and getting the ball on time that's what leads to success and that's what we saw here Carr now to throw on first down Shahed with the catch after the catch he gets that forward for a gain of n the receiver thought he had a nice soft spot in that zone coverage and he settles down to give a nice Target to the quarterback but the defense had eyes on him the entire time secure rally tackle prevents that from turning into a big play the tight end marrow is in motion now the first Carry of the game for JAL and they'll take this down inside the 35 it'll be a pick up of 10 first down New Orleans and a nice pick up there by the back with an explosive Run play and it's important to point out Mike this offensive play caller he's still working off that opening script it doesn't necessarily have to just be the first possession using formations using Run game and pass unmask the defense and understand where to take the play calling as the game unfolds a g up the Middle with camra and he'll bring this inside the 30 a gain of about four here's a second and six the shotgun it's car and it's complete to the sideline nice job getting both feet down inbounds this is why the timing of these routes is so critical if that ball is thrown a little bit later he's unable to keep his feet in bounds but instead the quarterback is on time and accurate and the receiver does a nice job not only securing the catch but ensuring that both feet remain in bounds he'll try andun for this with CRA they'll put him down right at 20 but they'll also move the sticks that is a first down picked up nothing real fancy about this call here Mike right in this third and short just get the ball to your running back make sure he has enough space to pick up the first down and they're able to convert a frh set of downs to work with it is first down and 10 Carr working out of the gun this one caught by Morell and the Saints are going to have a first and goal coming up as the tackle made here at the three yd line offensively Landing a lot of body blows on this drive Mike just the ability to steadily March the ball down field and remain so efficient both run and pass as they continue to wear this defense out they have to find a way to end this drive with points anything short of that be a bit of a let down here's and this is too far over the end line it's incomplete they let a golden opportunity slip away on that one that's the matchup that they wanted he just couldn't quite capitalize on it the go again from the three it is second and goal in motion is Hill trying to pull his way in this defense back up but stepping up no gain on the play it stays at the three I like the first down call Mike you're trying to take advantage of a defense that might be selling out expecting run but to no avail then you change it up and go on the ground for nothing brings up third down this is a tricky situation for any play caller throwing here on Third and goal it is brought in in the end zone 18 T Harry touchdown sa tight spes down there things happen quick Greg a quick decision and great execution for the score you're exactly right Mike down here this close to the goal line everybody's clock has to speed up not only the quarterback processing to get the ball out of his hand but you have to win as a receiver quickly and give the quarterback somewhere to go with the ball it was that quickness at the line of scrimmage that led to that touchdown flake groupy comes on for the extra point he's got it and the Saints will tie things up at 77 here in the opening quarter [Applause] [Applause] World Time seven a piece and the kicks away safe kick taken at the five and they'll bring him down just shy of the 30 yd line the Titans offense getting set to get back work we'll try to break out of this deadlock we are all even at seven as they start this drive first and [Applause] 10 Lis to throw that is caught in his they'll get about four here as he is taken down so they have these rules for the receivers mik they call them green grass rules and the idea is if you're running across the field and you're looking at the quarterback you're going to stay on the run if you're not looking at the quarterback that tells him I'm going to sit in this soft zone I'm going to what they call punch and pivot and stop and that tells the quarterback to put the ball on your chest that nonverbal communication between theer and the quog you're open stay open that's the that makes a lot of these off is so difficult to defend well defended there the quarterback's trying to attack this defense outside the numbers those really wide angle throws near the sideline sometimes can be very hard to defend so give a lot of credit to this second they were all on the same page and the ball Falls incomplete this into the hands of Ridley complete four catches already in this opening quarter off to a hot start as he picks up the first down you can see this connection is just starting really to pick up they're seeing the game through the same set of eyes and that is the job of the receiver what is my quarterback expecting from me where does he want me be there on time and it leads to Big gains like this here's first and 10 they to Pard on the and the defense good job sticking to their rules they didn't take their eyes off the running back who gains nothing you want to see linebackers play downhill Mike meaning there's not a lot of side to side Pursuit they're attacking the line of scrimmage attacking the ball carrier that's exactly what we saw out of this guy here he's able to make the stop the line of and keep it to no game they'll run once more and it's powered again he'll get about two Mario Davis there on the [Applause] play third down and to throw is l a good job here defensively they did not let him get away he's well short of the first down marker I think this one of those plays that when the ball carrier watches this back in the film room tomorrow he's going to be a little frustrated with himself if he could just have made that one guy Miss who picks up the first down instead he gets brought down short of the sticks and now they got ath down decision to make and we will not have a return here this one angled out of bounds now the New Orleans offense they're ready to take over once again all even here in this opening quarter and the drive will begin with first down they'll start this one on the ground with [Applause] CRA this just shows why you can't count on just one guy to take him down he's a powerful enough Runner you got to have guys coming in support when that first hit is made it takes a team effort to stop him especially once he gets going they'll come to the line now on second and two now Carr that'll be caught it's Alvin cra and he'll get about five here as he's out of bounds with a first down we're starting to see this so often M the days of just having a running back who you're just going to turn around and hand it two yes that's still a critical part of NFL offensive football but their ability to be used in the passing game just one more thing for the defense to have to defend make them go sideline to sideline line of scrimmage to the end zone defend every blade of grass in a really good running back goes way in doing that back in the day Mike you know how they decided who played offense and who played defense the guys who caught the ball better played offense and the guys who couldn't play defense and now that's obviously not the case anymore but this is one of those that still gives defensive players a bad R second down car that's going to be pulled in by camra and he's taken down inside the opponent's 35 every once in a while it just comes down to you need somebody in the Huddle to just make a play and wasn't a whole lot fancy here the quarterback just dumps the ball down a quick underneath completion and then really it's the yards after catch that did the rest and that's what it takes you're not always going to have the perfect play you're not always going to dial up the perfect play against the perfect look sometimes players need to make plays and that was a good one there set to go now on First and 10ve is the motion man here comes the Jet Sweep and he'll get about three on that one it'll be second down it's a give now to chra space to run inside the 20 and he'll be taken down give him 14 on that one it's good for a Saints first down this offense has to be thrilled Mike with the success they've had here on the ground in this open open quarter now as the rest of the game unfolds everything in the game plan continues to open up on the ground this is kendre Miller and he will get into the end zone kendre millerd New Orleans [Applause] on comes Blake groupy for the pat he knocks it through Saints will move out to a 14-7 lead [Applause] the kickoff team is out on the field and we're back to it as the kicks away on the return here's T Spear and he is stopped at 25 the drive will begin there out comes the Tennessee offense they get set to see what they can do they Trail here by a touchdown as this drive will start with a first down [Applause] here's L to throw short pass taken in by the tight end and good yardage there after the catch they'll wind up with a gain of seven on first down the drag route we used to say this is day one install every single offense in the NFL has this sort of rout especially for the tight end position and depending on the speed and the after catchability of the tight IT Canad to of theg a second down throw here for L con with his tight end and he's going to be brought down up the 45 catches already in this opening quarter off to a hot start as he picks up the first down this is the epitome of a really short throw and a really nice run after catch and listen for a quarterback it all counts the same you don't always have to throw the ball down field to generate explosive plays and these drag routes can be very very effective he's going nowhere and to lose yardage on that play So after one 147 is our score more from New Orleans after here's a second and 12 the tight end okono is in motion gets it away quickly and it's caught and they're going to work this down inside the 45 second time they've hooked up on this drive this one good for 12 and a first down just seems like every year Mike the tight end position just continues to grow within the passing game and establishes a bigger and bigger Ro and listen I know I'm biased but if you want to have a good passing game you better have a good tight end CAU Tony par they'll get about four here as he is taken down all right so there's really three areas that a modern NFL running back has to acel number one the traditional handoffs yes you have to operate out of the back field like a traditional running back number two you have to be excellent and reliable in pass protection and maybe bigger than all of them you have to be at least serviceable out of the back field in the passing and that's a first it will be a gain of eight these are the type of plays that drive a coach crazy in the fil room and you have to learn as a quarterback to avoid you can take some chances you can push the ball down field but not only to pick up a couple yards you got to pick your chances of when you want to be aggressive and you got to make sure you make better decisions going forward he'll look middle here caught by B and he takes it down to the 15 yd line that's his third catch of this first half and good enough for a first down what every offense looks to do Mike they want to attack the middle of the field that's the most valuable real estate in football often times that's where the chunk plays come give it to your receiver on the and let them do the rest the break the hle coming up now for first and 10 from the gun it's l he's got it at the three and the Titans are going to have a first and goal coming up they try to finish off this drive with six points Mike you've heard me say it a thousand times the easiest down to throw the ball in the NFL is first down I hate when teams wait till later in The Possession to throw the ball so early first down completion you're on the plus side of the field now you're that is caugh by the tight end okono touchdown Titans Greg it's the quarterback's best friend and you were that guy for a lot of years the tight end in a tight area with man coverage yeah it's really twofold Mike right first and foremost we see so many of these tight ends around the league that now have gotten to the point where one-on-one matchups that's Advantage offense but then even in the cases they don't create great separation mic it's their size their catch radius it's such a friendly Target for the quarterback that when things get tight in the Red Zone they look to the tight end Folk's extra point is good and the Titans will tie things up we are all even at 14 so back to level after the touchdown time for the kickoff here comes the All Pro returner from last year rash Shah and he's brought down right at the 25 yd line just seems nowadays Mike there's so many running backs in the NFL that you can classify as being dual threats of course we see them every week make their imp on the ground but here in the first half it's his ability in the passing game and do bulk of his damage as a receiving threat from the 25 they'll go to work first and 10 car now he'll be forced to just throw that one away it's incomplete this is why it's so critical that the quarterback and his intended target are on the same page they got to speak the same language when there's miscommunication it leads to Aaron throws and when Aaron throws lead to Big missed opportunities the tight end marrow is in motion the right side to and he's going to get to the 37 yd line 11 yd on the connection there it's good for a Saint's first down to throw it's Carr and he can't hang on through the contact it's incomplete what a good job defensively to meet him just as the ball was arriving and it'll be second down just seems like another case of predetermining where the quarterback is going to go with the ball he had a lot of good route options on that last concept I think if he just remains a little bit more patient read the play out let it unfold will lead to some easier and better completions he'll check this down to the running back nice work after the catch he stopped a little short of the first down marker but it is a pick up of nine there's a lot of ways to get the ball in the hands of your running backs and it's not always by just handing it to them in this case it's a simple check down picks up a good game brings up third down the tight end Barrow is in motion he's got his big Target that's Johnson and's pick up the first down he knew where that marker was and made sure he got Beyond it really nice job here by the quarterback understanding what did he need to pick up a fresh set of downs in this case that underneath drag route was all it took get the ball into the hands of your receiver pick up a first down on first down Carr and Tackle is going to be made down at the 40 yd line 11 y on the pass there it's good for a Saints first down well let's give some credit to the big boys up front in the trenches they knew that Blitz was coming they held up just long enough that the quarterback could get that ball out safely and results in a completion no motion their tight end Johnson to the tight end and he PS it in on and they're going to be set up right around the 10 yd line what work after the catch that one picks up 29 Y in order for this play to be successful against man coverage Mike two things need to happen one the quarterback has to anticipate the break he has to get that ball out on time and then the rest is the receiver creating the separation at the top and when both are accomplished you can see what the results are first and 10 to throw is Carr his pass taken in by shahib and no chance to turn and go that one good for just a couple now second down throw from Carr and some space opening up as he works it down to the two from the shotgun it's car that one in [Applause] groupy now on for the extra point the kick is good and the Saints have broken the deadlock as they move out to a 21- 14 lead [Applause] [Applause] both teams ready to go once more as the kicks away Spears now to return it and it'll be brought down past the 25 decent field position to start this dve let's add that to the list of great throws we've seen out of this quarterback here in the first half we thought he might be in line to have a good game especially against this style of Defense but let's be honest Mike he's been more than just good he's been sensational [Applause] Le to throw here on first down and that one knocked away it's incomplete Calvin Ridley was the intended receiver it's second down it's rare to see an off that finds trailing and say well their quarterback's been actually one of their biggest bright spots usually that doesn't go hand in hand so it's a little surprising to see him miss a throw like where he's completed passes at a highly efficient rate he look power out of the back field and he'll be taken down up at the 40 yd line a pick up of 14 on that one first down for Tennessee these curl routes he's been running these routes since he was a young kid in Pop Warner football and I like to call it pulling the string you've got the defender thinking you're going down field you stick that fo in the ground work back to the quarterback friendly to the ball and really nice job picking up the first [Applause] down they'll be forced to just throw that one away it's incomplete nice example there Mike the quarterback just being smart with the ball understanding it didn't quite develop the way he had intended throw that out of Harm's Way live the play throwing on second down oh and this one's going to wind up incomplete that's one you'd think he'd be able to Coral he can't find the handle and it's going to lead to a third down timing and Trust critical elements of this quick passing game if your Target and the quarterback are not on the same page it winds up being an incompletion and a wasted doubt on third down here's this will be intercepted by Mar lore and he's going to be taken down but it's a quick change situation he has set his offense up with first and goal now after the interception we have an injured player to look at you hope against hope here in the preseason especially that it's not too serious so now after the interception a sudden change situation first and goal they'll run here with chamra and nothing doing on that one he'll go down behind the line I'd like to see that running back be a little bit more decisive with his cut m you can see he was a little hesitant and once you're late making that decision you just kind of get strong laterally great job there by the defense and he has no choice but to take that loss the tight end Barrow is in motion they'll work the middle here with chamra and he's going to be swallowed up again backto back runs backto back losses now it is third down how often do we see linebackers be so fast trying to track down the ball carrier that they end up actually overrunning the play and allowing the running back to cut back but not this guy does a great job staying in phas stretching this ball out sideways and he brings him down for a loss Carr working out of the gun that is incomplete but there is a flag down big call here it was third down here's Blake groupy for the Saints a field goal try officially a 29 yd attempt rupe's kick is good and the Saints going to extend their lead it's now 24-4 it's always a little bit of a let down like you find yourself deep in the red zone and you have to settle for a short field goal like that in this case he's able to put it through and they get three [Applause] kickoff team is out on the field and we're back to it as the kicks away he Fields it at the eight and a decent return there he'll get this up just shy of the 30 the Titans offense ready to get back at him the deficit is 10 24-4 so work to do as they come up for first and 10 [Applause] out of the shotgun L there's that man again another catch so the hope is when you call these underneath drag routes you're trying to have your tight end come out the back side of the defense in space so when you put the ball on them early it leads to Big yards after the catch in this case they don't get the they were hoping for but they'll definitely take it now Pard and he'll be brought down just shy of Midfield that's a game of 15 that's good for a Titan first down up until that R this first half it's kind of been tough sleding here for this run game they'd love to see him get going that going to go a long [Applause] way on first down L this throw right side taken in by Ridley and he'll be out of bounds inside the 30 yd line they get 24 on that one first down Tennessee we spent so much time talking about these receivers how fast do they run Mike how high do they jump but so often the guys that have the most success in the NFL it's the mental part of the game it allows them to create separation find soft spots in the defense attack Defenders it's exactly what he's able to do here and really nice connection the tight end okono is in motion on First and 10 here's Lis this one complete to Ridley and this takes him into the Red Zone he's brought down inside the 20 yd line two straight hookups this one good for 10 [Applause] Ys Hopkins sent in motion L to throw on First and 10 that'll be intercepted picked off by pulso still on the mo we saw it earlier the defense on the quarterback with the earlier interception and now Greg they pick them they turn it into a pick six and Mike the reality is this has just a bad first half throwing the football I mean not only is it a second interception but this time the defense gets their hands ball and they're able to take it all the way back for the pick six KY now for the extra point his kick is good the Saints add on one more as they extend their second quarter lead e both teams ready to go once more as the kicks away Spears now to return it now an opening pass the 30 and it will finally get him down but he gets all the way close to the 40 yd line and another great throw right there Mike and when you take a look at the numbers they certainly don't lie he has just been flat out terrific in this first half his ability to spread the ball around take what the defense has given them they've certainly had a lot of success here early on now a first and 10 from the 38 yd line off the play Pick it's Lis open Man Down field it's boy and he's taken down inside the opponent's 35 don't get that often during the season first play of the drive picks up 29 yards great pre-nap recognition here by the quarterback he looks outside and sees man coverage and he knows exactly where he's going to go with the ball now it's up to the receiver to create separation at the top of the route balls on time great placement nice big pick up there go play action with Levis a ball deep for the end zone and that him too far maybe too wide out of bounds incomplete I can sit up here all day Mike and we can talk about the Miss throw but I think a lot of the credit has to go to the pass defense not only did they do a good job making it difficult for them to complete the pass but I think they saved the touchdown along the way the tight end okono is in motion on second down Le and they bring him down inside the 25 yd line he's got a touchdown on the books from earlier and that catch gets him a first down not every pass has to be thrown down field you can rely on the run after catch especially a big body like this tight end get the ball in his hands early and let him pick up the rest after the catch now le they go sideline and he stays in bounds got the feet down in time it's a first down really nice answer to the previous drive from this quarterback you want to play at this league and you want to play for a long time you better have a shortterm memory because mistakes are going to happen really nice job here bouncing back putting together a promising drive and he's open to Come Away with a touchdown of his own [Applause] this one caught just past the py Calvin Ridley touchdown Tennessee oh the teamwork was just ideal there Greg we don't see practice all week but we see it pay off in the game and when you have a wide receiver mik that can operate near the sideline it just increases the amount of space that quarterback has to work with he knows that he can put that ball maybe a little bit further away from the defender knowing he's got the guy on the other end to not only secure the catch but to keep his feet in bounds for a touchdown folks extra point is good and the Titans are able to cut the deficit to 10 [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] the kickoff team is out on the field and we're back to it as the kicks away on the return it's rashed Shahed and he'll be taken down right at the 29 yd line the Saints offense back on to the field for their next possession their lead is 10 they go back to work trying to add to it it begins with first down go play action with Carr a throw here right side Falls incomplete throughout this entire game we've really seen this quarterback operate very efficiently not only being able to spread the ball to multiple Playmakers Mike but really complete a high percentage of his passes so can't let that last incomplete break what's been a really nice Rhythm so far the tight end Barrow is in motion he'll be forced to just throw that one away it's incomplete so defensively there's always the initial pass coverage plan and then when that breaks down and the quarterback goes into scramble mode how fast can you then move on to the second phase and what they call plaster meaning find the nearest receiver and almost play him man and it's exactly what they did here and there was nowhere for the ball to go and he's forced to just throw it away Shahed with the catch a gain there of 11 first down New Orleans so far here early Mike the key for this offense has been their ability to maintain possession by converting on these third Downs it's going to be a big storyline the rest of the way this defense has to find a way when they force thir they got to get off the field from the 39 here's a first and 10 they motion their tight end Johnson and that'll be a pick up of three second and seven Shahed in motion car now on second down gets it away quickly and it's caught and he's down on the other side of Midfield Mark him at the 48 yd line it's a gain of 10 yards it's good for a Saints first down they'll motion their tight end Johnson off the play fake here's car and good yard there after the catch they wind up with a gain of seven on first down so two minutes to play in a back and forth first half we're back to New Orleans after this second down Carr that's going to be pulled in by camra well let's give the defense a little credit here you talk about Reed and reacting quickly they recognize the screen right out of the jump and he's able to beat the blocker to the spot and keep him to No Gain they'll come up to Third and three now Carr he locates his receiver that's Perry and he's into the end zone a Perry touch down New Orleans that is second touchdown of the afternoon and that is number two great he is off the sun p a start of this one two quarters and two receiving touchdowns Mike this is one of those situations where as a defensive coordinator you've got to give your group an answer because right now they don't have one for this guy on comes Blake groupy for the pat he's got it and the Saints tack on one more to their lead both teams ready to go once more as the kicks away Spears now to return it and he'll be brought down just beyond the 25 line from the gun it's Lis outs another catch for his favorite Target already closing in on 100 yard receiving in the first half that one picks up a first down really nice job here by the tight end understanding that if you're not open get open and if you are open stay open he found a nice void In the Zone on the back side of the defense friendly to the quarterback nice pickup Ridley on the reception and he's down inside the 40 yd line remember he had the touchdown catch the last time they had the football here he's got a first down every quarterback's dream is can I get the ball out of my hand as fast as possible and get it to a guy that can do the rest after the catch and it seems like nowadays throughout the entire league the best offenses thrive in yards after the catch ball rest at the 37 it's first and 10 the tight end okono is in motion L to throw he'll again get it to after the catch he gets that forward for a gain of n [Applause] a second down throw here for Levis and they are in great shape he's taken down what an important sequence this is trying to get one of those scores back before halime in a great spot first down and goal he puts it up and it's caught CH okono touchdown Titans his second touchdown of this first half and the show continues what a first half he's had Greg a third touchdown pass with that one Mike what stood out to me the most so far is just the amount of space these guys have had to operated I think if I'm this defensive coordinator me and my staff at halftime are revisiting this game plan they obviously felt good about it coming in but I don't think there's anything to feel good about thus far Folk's extra point is good and the Titans are able to cut the deficit to 10 still move time final minute of this first half we'll see if they can do anything with this kickoff that is coming their way and he'll work this one past the 25 to right about the 28 yd line the Saints offense going to take over here in the final minute of this first half they'll start it here with a first and 10 from the shotgun it's car his pass taken in by shahib terrific start to this drive gain of 23 and a first down there's a reason certain guys might just always seem to be open it's really because route running is more art than it is science how do you manipulate the defense to find open spots or win verse Man to create separation and earn the trust of your quarterback Carr now to throw on first down here's a screen coming for cam heast close to a first down to gain of nine nice pitch and catch on first down now second down throw from car he's got his man on the in R yes taken in over the middle Saints going to use their second time out as the clock will stop with 21 seconds to go until half time on first down Carr he'll check this down to the running back great example of first down efficiency you don't always have to go for the big play but put yourself in a friendly second down now you have equal opportunity to both run and pass Carr working out of the gun got his receiver on the inut he's got it a big half continues already two touchdowns on the score sheet and here this grab gets him a first down and with just four seconds left in the first half a timeout is called Here Comes Blake groupy for this field goal try this about as short as you can get he is two for two that kick is good and the Saints can tack on three more extending the lead here late in the first half and that's a really nice boost here before the break I mean you work the clock well you're able to steal some points the biggest thing is you're able to build a little momentum now going into the locker room at half so two seconds left to play and the kicks away this one will be taken in the end zone no run back forthcoming and the ball coming out to the 30 yd [Applause] line on first down L and for the third time in this he's been intercepted it's the honey badger Tyron Matthew so we've reached halime here in the final week of the preseason as we'll head over to Orlando standing by there Jonathan Coachman he has the EA Sports halftime report coach okay Mike thanks very much this the final game on the preseason schedule for these two teams after this comes final cutdowns and then we get started for real the countdown is on for the NFL kickoff game on the Thursday after Labor Day both of these offenses had their share of high points in that first half each team had some big moments and it would seem this could turn out to be a game where the last score wins coach thank you not a rest at the break for the defensive coordinators trying to figure out how to stop these offenses as we get ready for the second half both teams ready to get back at it as we get back underway here on EA Sports Shah now to return it he'll be brought down right around the 25 yd line the offense headed back out captained of course by their quarterback and we show you some of the highlights and there have been plenty to choose from three touchdown pass and some other big time throws as well certainly dialed in on top of his game right throughout this one first down throw for car quick throw taken in and they'll get about four here as he is taken down similar to a tight end the slot receiver is often considered the safety blanket he makes all the difficult catches tends to be a little bit more around the line of scrimmage and so far today he's certainly lived up to that reputation throwing is car man the field it's Al they get 18 on that one first down New Orleans now so far here today putting points on the board certainly hasn't been a problem and plays like that are wide think about it Mike sometimes you just have to take what the defense gives you and not force something that's not there and that mid-range pass results in a fresh set of downs on first and 10 Carr quickly to the outside and complete and he's brought down after a game of six on first down defense does a nice job here initially using Zone coverage to take away the middle of the field that's the most valuable real estate in football quarterback gets off his first read sees some openings to the sideline and him and his receiver are able to connect now camra and not much there he's back to the original line no gain on that one just watch the speed of the pursuit out of this safety on this tackle Mike his ability to play from dep and attack the line of scrimmage and meet that ball carrier in the hole and keep him to No Gain you don't see a lot of safeties able to make that tackle in the open field that's pretty impressive car from the gun on third down he gets that to his tight end Maro that one good for 13 it's good for a s first down Mike think back to our conversation during the break we've kind of both asked ourselves are they content with this double digit lead do they come out and play conservative here in the second half well it took exactly one play to get our answer they continue to get chunk plays like this this thing could Get Out Of Reach fast Carr now a short one caught by the tight end Johnson outbreaking routes Mike especially outside of the numbers everything is about the timing if you're late with the throw you're going to be watching that defensive back take that thing the other way for six on second down here's a run with camra and this takes him into the Red Zone he's brought down inside the 20 yd line 15yd pick up there it's good for a Saints first down it's too early at this point Mike to really start thinking about the clock you definitely don't want to go into a shell but now this is the point in the game where having a good ground game really starts to take over you throw to get the lead but man once you get it that ground game that's what finishes the game off to throw it's Carr to the outside complete to Johnson and The Saints have got a first and goal he's out of Bounds at the four yd line that's the second time they connect on this drive this one good for 13 yards from the four yd line trying to punch it in first down and goal the tight end Barrow is in motion they'll run it's Williams that play may have taken a little bit too long to develop it's no gain he's back at the four yd line so often when it comes to safeties Mike we talk about their speed and their range but for him to be able to come up and make and be physical at the point of attack and keep this ball carrier to No Gain that's pretty impressive they'll motion their tight end Johnson here with camra and he won't quite get in down to the one setting up third and goal here's Carr throwing from the pistol that isau side of the end zone Chris touchdown s two touchdowns for him now on the afternoon that is yet another touchdown pass what a game he is having throwing his fourth touchdown score of the game it's one like to throw four touchdowns but it's really the ease in which he's carved this defense up that has stood out the most the defense has had no answers for this passing game and he has just completely had his way with this group after the touchdown Carr and the Saints going for two now they'll set up to throw this is caught e got it and they tack two more onto their lead everything's about matchups especially down here this close to the go line I think my gu is better than your guy I'm going to put him in a position to have success throw it up to him let him do the rest the kickoff team is out on the field and we're back to it as the kicks away spear now to return it he'll get this up to the 28 yd line nice place for the drive to start well they had such a great first half throw in the football there's no reason to think Mike coming out here for the start of the third that anything's going to change he's picked up right where he left off and the numbers are indicative of just how well he's played so they come to the line for first down and 10 out of the shotgun L and he can't hang on through the contact it's incomplete what a good job defensively to meet him just as the ball was arriving and it'll be second down even though it doesn't result in a sack when you dial up the right pressure at the right time Mike sometimes that's all it takes to lead to that incompletion the timing is just a little off between the quarterback and his intended target the ball Falls incomplete call it a gain of 13 that's good for a Titan first down whatever they've talked about in the locker room at the halim break seems to have worked they've come out with a new established energy you could see it when they took the field now this offense seems to be building on it because with that chunk play just a little bit of Rhythm that they can they got a long way to go to get back into this game but so far off a good start and they get this one across Midfield to the 47 yd line he had two touchdowns earlier looking to see what he can do here in this second half that grab gets them a first down from the gun it's Levis this throw right side taken in by Ridley that's 13 more on that play and quickly another first down I'd like to see them do a better job here the rest of the game like just disguising the coverage from the pre-nap look to the post Snap look and what I mean is when you have a quarterback at this level and what they see before the ball's in their hands is the exact same thing they see once they do get the ball everything is just so much easier for them to process change the look change the coverages move your safeties make the quarterback toess with the in his they'll come up here on second down and five Hopkins sent in motion throwing on second and that ball incomplete over the middle really nice job there by the defense defending the middle of the field that is the most valuable real estate on the field they know every single off is trying to attack the defense between thees so give credit they took away all the throwing lanes and that ball Falls incomplete from the gun on third down here's Levis and he will have the first down the drive will continue after a pick up of eight well we'll give a little credit here defensively even though they allowed the first down we've seen defenses really struggle bringing this big tight end to the ground and they didn't allow him to pick up a bunch of yards after contact but he was able to get just enough to pick up the first down Hopkins sent in motion Lis to throw it here on first down this is part two to the goal line and in Tyler boy touchdown Tennessee we were talking during the break Mike we felt that this was kind of a Do or Die Drive they felt like they needed to come away with the touchdown here and now they're showing a little life yeah a little little bit of belief don't you think everyone on that field knows they've been a part of a comeback before it's a pretty big mountain but a good way to get started here to begin this half F now for the extra point he's got it and the Titans are able to Edge a bit closer both teams ready to go once more as the kicks away Shahid now to return it he'll work his way across the 25 yd line so out comes the Chicago offense as they get set to take over once more from the shotgun it's CAU who outs another catch for his favorite Target certainly not the biggest play of the day but a good example ofing POS y staying ahead of the chains by a well timed ball and a well timed route here's second and three to go go play action with Carr there's that man again another and he's down inside the 40 yd lineer himself in a really nice Groove and there's these weird times in the game Mike where it just seems like every ball comes your way every play they call your wide open and you just find yourself in one of those grooves that athletes talk about so they got to continue to ride the hot hand because right now on that field there's no mistaking who it is Carr now to throw on first down Shahed with the catch and it's a gain of 19 to the 19 yd line they'll motion their tight end Johnson they'll run on first down with chamra and he's going to be taken down what a pick up a gain of 18 and it sets up first and goal what a great run down here inside the Red Zone Mike it's so important that you still can run the ball great job here by the back I thought for a minute he was going to score he gets it all the way down inside the one and I wouldn't be surprised if they let him finish this drive off that's H in at the two and he's not going to get in in fact he'll lose yardage they push him backwards really nice job defensively they were all over that from the jump initially I thought he was going to break away and pick up something positive but at the end of it all he ended up going backwards they'll try to run this one in and he'll just get up inside those big bodies up front and he's in Alvin CRA touchdown New Orleans good drive they kept the ball Greg they moved it effectively down the field and finish it off on the ground for the touchdown so often Mike we see teams work on a great drive to get down here close only to settle for a field goal but in this case give them a lot of credit they put a great drive together but they're able to capitalize and finish it off with six gry able to add the extra point the Saints will extend this third quarter lead the kickoff team is out on the field and we're back to it as the kicks away Spears now to return it and it'll be brought down past the 25 decent field position to start this drive another great throw and been the story as you check out these numbers I mean he has done everything this team has asked of him and [Applause] more they'll give it to Pard to start this drive and he get about four to the 29 a second down throw here for Lis he'll look for par out of the back field him down but not before he picks up a first down after a gain of seven a running back that can be used in the passing game is a handful for these defenses and you can tell this offense they're not shy getting this guy the ball and I think the rest of this game they're going to continue to see hey defense do you have an answer for this guy Le to throw on First and 10 and a good effort there defensively it's knocked away and this is teach tape this is exactly how they teach defensive linemen to rush the quarterback first order of business is obviously get a sack get to the quarterback disr the pocket if you can't get there get big in the throwing Lane and that's exactly why on second down Le and that's going to be incomplete coverage was good that time the contact jarring the ball loose and forcing third down we see this offense just continue to search for a spark it's just this entire game their executions just been a little bit off and now here in the second half they find themselves down by multiple scores they're going to have to connect on one or two of these big plays if they want to find themselves back in this looking middle and he's got Ridley and he's very close to a first down but it doesn't look like he got there and they're going to Mark him a yard short I'm not sure what was the more difficult aspect of the play winning his route vers man coverage or catching this pass that quarterback he put a little extra sace on that one to get it there on time and he's able to secure a really nice catch and no chance of a run back here this one's going to Sail Out of Bounds this drive starts at the 21 it's first and 10 Carr working out of the gun open man down the field it's and he's going to be dragged down but not until he's inside the 25 it's another big play in a game that's had it share a gain of 57 yard when he continues to play at this level Mike it just makes this team so hard to beat it's the combination of leading both long sustained drives and de being able to strike in bunches generate big explosive plays primarily through the air it put so much pressure on these defenses and with the way today's game is gone doesn't look like he has any plans on slowing down first down throw for Carr he's hit as he threw it goes to the ground and it's an incomplete pass a rare Miss for a quarterback that we've seen really come out fire throughout this entire contest I mean his completion percentage Mike is well above League average and frankly it's really the biggest reason why they find themselves out in front now second down throw from Carr's brought down that pass is going to pick up four and bring up third down here's C that is caught that corner of the end zone 18 touchdown that is his third touchdown of the afternoon and that is the hattick what a game his third touchdown reception of this one and nothing they've done to slow him down has worked Mike this defense they're throwing multiple guys at him they're playing man they're playing Zone it doesn't matter this guy is having his way and he's having a dayy now on for the extra point it's up and good and the Saints are going to extend their lead both teams ready to go once more as the kicks away Spears now to return it and he'll work this one past the 25 to right about the 28 yd line the titans's offense and receiver Calvin rley set to take over for this drive they are in need of points in a big way as they set out on First and 10 the drive starts it's a car by power he'll be brought down after a short pick up to about the 29 [Applause] here's second and N Levis left side into the hands of Hopkins and he's going to be brought down up past the 45 they gain 18 yard on that long first down for Tennessee to throw is L complete rley on the reception and good yard there after the catch they wind up with a gain of seven on first down here's a second and three fourth coming to throw is Levis he's going to get it to okono and it'll be taken down the gain is six and it's a new set of downs he picked up the first down I can't tell you Mike how many of these offensive skill players around the league they look at man coverage as like a personal offense can't imagine that a defensive coordinator would say hey we're just going to have one guy defend you all by himself and after that last completion on the way back to the I think he had a few Choice words for him I think he said hey man you can't guard me oneon-one you better ask your coach for some help CU if he doesn't you're going to be in for a long day they got there in a hurry didn't they Mike I mean luckily for him he saw that free rusher coming and at the very least was able to get that out to prevent the SA Hopkins sent in motion here's Lis connecting with his tight Endo they hook up again second time on this drive and this one's good for 18 yards and a first down Dennis Allen not sure about that last call so out comes the red challenge flag that issue was he able to stay in bounds the NFL rules you're looking for either two feet or a body part that is not a hand to be down with possession of the ball no bobbling the ball not moving around he has control so that's what the referee is looking at here so the challenge there unsuccessful and it will remain a completed pass they'll come up here first and 10 out of the shotgun Lis got his man at the six and he'll be taken down that's catch three just on this drive and it gets his team a first down two defenders in the area Mike but it just doesn't seem to this is an offense that continually trust their guys to make big plays regardless of the coverage and they're able to pick up a fresh set of downs because here's Spears and he's going to go backwards on that one they take him down back at the 6yd line every team makes an emphasis on winning first down but as a defense when you're able to take them back for a loss second and long you can really become more of a pass Centric defense and tips the scales into your favor the tight end okono is in motion throwing on second down Lis and he will score again K okono touchdown Titans he has come alive after the break his third touchdown of the second half now folk on for the extra point it's up and through and the Titans are able to cut into the deficit the kickoff team is out on the field and we're back to it as the kicks away this one taken at the seven and they'll bring him down just shy of the 30 yd line make your quarterback look good when you can just get open as easily as he has in this game so far I mean he had the big first half remember but here in the second half he just continues to add to these numbers here in the third quarter on first down car quick throw out wide it's caught nice job here by the defense did a good job just covering up everything for the most part so once this ball was caught really didn't have much of a choice but to just head out of bounds and pick up a modest game they'll motion their tight end Johnson second down car and open down field it's Johnson and'll be taken down but it takes them across Midfield down to the 40 yd line really nice throw down field on that conversion brings up a new set of downs and defensively Mike this feels like desperation mode if you allow them to finish this drive with a touchdown this game feels all but over so back and forth they go as we are through three EA Sports back for more from the NFL pre-season after this they'll come up first and 10 at the 40 the tight end marrow is in motion on the carry it's Williams and he'll work forward for about three it's second down out of the gun here's a give to chamra what a run he brings it to the Red Zone taken down inside the 20 yd line they get an even 20 on that one first down New Orleans and this is the point of the game Mike where you really can start leaning on your run game and try to close this game out you've got the lead you're in the fourth quarter and they're able to pop off a big run a fresh set of downs to work with it is first down and 10 the shotgun it's car to the end zone there but it is incomplete C the intended receiver and it'll be second down that was a perfectly timed hit and I think it actually saved six points Mike he got there just as the ball did and I think it was the contact that separated him from the ball slotman in motion left car now on second down and nice work after the catch he stopped a little short of the first down marker but is a pick up of nine they'll look to pick this up third and a yard back is Carr this one caught at the four and he's going to have the first down they convert on Third and it sets up a first and goal Mike I think we make so much of all these fancy routes right the selling the head fakes getting in and out of the break and while that's really important to create separation that's really more of a man beater that's when teams want to just play you one-on-one and you have to beat the defender against zone defense like we saw here it's a lot more simpler understand the concept of the play understand where the holes in the defense are and get there and be friendly to the and if you're open stay open that's NFL route running that's what the best guys do now back at the four for second and goal go play action with Carr That's to the end zone but they can't connect it's incomplete so instead of celebrating a touchdown he's just heading back to his huddle trying to keep his head up as everyone kind of looks at him sideways that ball hits your hands at this level you've just got to make the catch that's what your quarterback's counting on that's what your teammates are counting on frankly that's what this entire stadium is counting on and that is H in the end zone he's in rashed Shahed touchdown New Orleans so add another touchdown and touchdown pass for that matter he has thrown six in this one amazing stuff groupy now for the extra punt he gets it to go the Saints will open it up even further here in this fourth quarter e both teams ready to go once more as the kicks away Spears now to return it he'll get this up to the 28 yd line nice place for the drive to start the visitors offense about ready to take over once more things not looking good but see we get the turn around going here they'll start this drive with first down from the gun it's Levis taking it down this one is caught they'll Mark him down up at the 44 yd line it's a gain of 16 and very quickly a first down Hopkins sent in motion on first down L there's that man again another catch and they're going to work this down inside the 45 closing in on 200 receiving yards for the game he's been outstanding that one good for a first down here's Le he'll again get it to Ry and he's brought down after a gain of six on first down they'll work now on second and four the tight end okono is in motion on second down L and he'll be taken down the gain is six and it's a new set of downs he picked up the first down this play is actually really well defended here but I'll tell you Mike as you know My Philosophy is the tight end is always open and this just supports my case here's first and 10 L to throw open man is Hopkins and this takes him into the Red Zone he's brought down inside the 20 yd line it's a pick up of 16 yards down to the 16 and that's going to do it with that last throw he surpasses Norm van brocklin most passing yards ever in a game van brocklin at 54 over 70 years ago 1951 help from The oline Help from the receivers an incredible performance an NFL record set here Lis to throw on First and 10 who else another catch for his favorite Target and he's not going to get too far tackled after a gain of just a yard really well done here by the defense Mike executing this zone defense and they be able to pattern read you're not just going to drop back to a spot and just play like a robot based on what the receivers do off the line the Defenders have different rules of where their zones move to well they had that one dialed in right from the jump and they were able to stop that play really before it got started when you call these double moves you're going for Brook you sell the curl and go and you're looking to throw this ball over the head of the defense so give a lot of credit to the defensive backs yes it led to a completion but this was not the big play the offense intended when the coordinator called that play quick throw here is complete and they're going to have enough to convert here and it sets up first and goal I just love the feel this tight end has Mike for the defense when they play zone coverage his ability to find open space and be friendly for the quarterback it's easier said than done certain want to run routes like their lines on a piece of paper and they end up going from uncovered space to covered space but not and he will do it himself he's in will Lis touchdown Tennessee well it's not going to be enough but at least they find the end zone at the end of a hard week's work at least a little pay off with a touchdown Greg Mike you can just chalk this one up in the column of too little too late give credit to this offense for not going down without a fight but they're not going to have enough time to find El back in this one Flo now for the extra point the kick is good and the Titans are able to Edge a bit closer the kickoff team is out on the field and we're back to it as the kicks away Shahed now to return it and he is stopped at 25 the drive will begin there and you think back to the first half Mike just how well he threw the ball and you thought maybe this defense would come up with some answers in the second half to slow him down but so far that has proven to not be the case set to go now on First and 10 it'll be of the gun with camra that's the way you want to run it on first down a gain of seven they're going to go right back to camra and he enough to move the chains he'll take this forward for about three yards I think this second down call Mike they were hoping that at worst they had themselves set up for a third down in short but there's no need for third down he was able to get enough on second and they get a fresh set of downs from the 35 it's first and 10 they'll go again here with CRA the defense all over this one they get him behind the line of scrimmage a a couple where a Defender makes his tackles tells you a lot about his abilities and for an interior defensive lineman Mike to make plays on the outside of the formation just speaks to his speed his effort his ability to run down the line and we saw it here and he takes the back down for a loss now second down throw from car he look middle here and there's and he'll be brought down of Midfield a gain of 16 on that pass play it's good for a Saints first down and that last throw will be the one that does it he has now set the NFL record most passing yards in a single game on the ground it's camra room to run inside the 40 and he's going to take this all the way down to the Saints 25 yd line big hole up the middle the interior of this offensive line did a great job clearing some space the back saw it quick and he hit it and next thing you know he was in the secondary for a big pick up motioning him from the slot left first down down throw for Carr this pass deflected and caught and no chance to turn and go that one good for just a couple bad things tend to happen when the ball's deflected in the air like that but luckily for the offense they avoided a disaster and the ball bounced right back into the hands of his receiver they'll come up on a second down and eight Carr working out of the that's going to be pulled in by camra he's going to be marked down at the 12 yd line pick up of 11 yards on that one it's good for a Saints first down here's chamra a gain of four as he's taken down here's a second and six a give up the Middle with camra and he'll get four more on this one to set up third and two here's C that is caught and they'll stop him just short of the goal line but they are going to have enough to convert it's going to be first and goal and this is the blueprint Mike the ability to sustain and maintain possession and methodically move the ball down the field in the process they've been in complete control they've been able to dictate what they want to do offensively and make the defense react over the top he's got itry touchdown six make it four touchdowns for him on the afternoon so that will tie the NFL has stood for more than 70 years seven touchdown passes in one game and of course all scoring plays are reviewed so replay is going to take a look at this one and make sure it is good for six the question did he get his hands around the football in the end zone if he did it's a touchdown this one's going to need very close scrutiny so ruled a touchdown originally they didn't find any reason to overturn it and it stays on the board on comes Blake groupy for the pat he's got it and the Saints are able to extend the lead both team's ready to go once more as the kicks away now return coming from the seven and he'll work this one past the 25 to right about the 28 yd line the visitors offense ready to take over possession of the football they'll start out first down and 10 out of the shotgun L he'll look for par out of the back field and goodard there after the catch they wind up with a gain of seven on first down they were able to complete this pass but how often do we see these running backs run these angle routes and they catch it in stride and run a hole through the defense so know the defense yards here but it could have been a lot worse throwing on second down looking middle and he's got Ridley and he's down on the other side of Midfield Mark him at the 48 yd line and that's going to do it it'll put him over 200 receiving yards in the game what a performance that grab also comes with a first down to throw is Lis this one complete to Ridley and he'll get about eight on that one most of it coming after the catch it's second down remain in the fourth quarter GRE IB back on EA Sports after this come to the line on second and two throwing is Lis connecting with his tight end oono and he'll be taken down after a gain of three but that is good enough for a first down and this is where the versatility of the tight end position really starts coming into play Not only do they have to line up with their hand on the ground in line but they can occasionally split out in the slot and man they're too fast for linebackers and a lot of times they're too big for defensive backs and he'll get about on that one most of it coming after the catch it's second down Levis to throw and that's going to be incomplete coverage was good that time the contact jarring the ball loose and forcing third down this is one of those situations that plays directly into the hands of the defense because think like they know this offense has to be onedimensional this has to be a pass so what do they do they bring in extra defensive backs they clog up the back end and at the end of the day there's just nowhere for the offense to go with the ball and it looks like he's going to have the first down the defense was right there but a gain of two good enough for the first down here's Levis to throw and for the fourth time today has been intercepted picked Off by elante Taylor and the Saints are going to take possession here at their own when you find yourself in this situation you're on defense you're defending your own go line you got to take chances you got to try to force a turn and make a play and get off the field that's exactly what this Defender did takes a chance bets on himself and comes away with a pick to save them some points the Saints offense and Veteran Alvin set to take over once more they'll have a long field ahead of them as they start first and 10 they'll start this one on the ground with camra and a nice run there he'll be stopped just shy of a first down a pick up of nine so when you're evaluating the impact of a team's Run game like I think it's important at the end of the game to look back and say okay how many yards did they run for but more importantly when did those yards come did I run for those yards in the fourth quarter which typically means I had to lead that's the sign of a successful Run game as opposed to getting a lot of meaningless yards early in the game this one a win for the Saints they finish the pre-season on an up Note now'll have a couple weeks to get ready for the season opener coming in [Applause] September so that'll just about do it for Greg olon and our entire team I'm Mike too you've been watching the NFL on EA Sports for more log on to
