and we're back guys welcome to tennis C minute I'm your host good energy excuse the voice I'm a little bit under the weather uh being in New York all week that will do it to you but we're going to take a look at a topic that's gaining a lot of attention and I figured i' give my two cents why not right ticket prices to the US Open a lot of people are saying these prices are so astronomical they are uneconomical they are completely ridiculous well let me chime in as someone that has attended the US open every year at least for the last eight consecutive years I would say yeah I do think the prices are a bit overpriced but I've also told you several years ago and I say this all the time um I I'm a huge philanthropist I believe in philanthropy we donate a lot to a lot of tennis organizations as well as St Jude that is probably my favorite organization to give to because they help so many children and it's such a beautiful thing but every year around January February we get discounted tickets to attend the US Open um so first of all you want to buy them early but you want to kind of get in with you know any of these tennis organizations where you can donate they will especially if they're related to the US Open or any of the New York tennis organizations um then they'll give you the option to purchase US Open tickets in January so you can do that at a much discounted rate when it comes to purchasing tickets to these events especially if we're talking about Arthur Ash or Lis Armstrong Arena as we take a look at us open champion from 21 Emira Kan ladies and gentlemen what an amazing Champion but um yeah if you wait till the last minute you're going to especially if you get someone that's hot or very popular you're going to pay a lot more than if you buy them you know prior so you always want to purchase your tickets early you know for example let's take a look at the the Olympics um so to attend the tennis matches uh at the Olympics in Paris you know two tickets cost us about $500 but I didn't necessarily know I was going to Paris if I would have purchased them previously I could have got them at probably half that rate so you do want to purchase your tickets early if you wait till the last minute you're going to overpay the only way you'll save at the last minute is if a top star is injured or eliminated then the ticket prices will drop so if you're ever looking at an event and the ticket prices start to drop then you know there's probably going to be an upset or someone's you know top star or top seed is just not going to make the next round but definitely want to buy them early in terms of this year's prices I will say the outrage the public outrage has helped because now they're dropping the T yes yes the ticket prices are dropping which is insane but one fan actually wrote on Twitter that so he booked his and this it's actually kind of foolish if you think about it so he booked his tickets to New York in advance but he decided to wait to to buy his tickets to the US Open and now they're astronomical so he needs two tickets and it's about $500 well one aspect is you might want to take a look at I don't know downgrading your seats because I mean you can get into Arthur ad Stadium at minimum for about 180 so that'd be 360 plus fees 460 yeah you're near that $500 range but I mean you'll save $40 but what is $40 you know when you're going to the US Open when just a a beverage is like $10 you know you can get like a small snack you're going to pay you're going to pay I mean yesterday we paid $48 for basically a sandwich and pasta just one small sandwich and one small bowl of pasta was $48 so I do think even though and and this is fan week right where it's free where you can walk you can walk the grounds for free and this is really the best part of the US Open in my personal opinion I think fan week is the best part because it doesn't cost to get in you do have to pay $40 for parking and by the way Mercedes is not a sponsor anymore of the US Open which sucks because every year I'm a Mercedes owner I drive in for free so previous years if you own a Mercedes you get free parking at the US Open now Cadillac is the sponsor of the US Open and you need a Cadillac to get in free which which is completely ridiculous by the way um I don't know so I guess Chase bank now is the big sponsor in Cadillac so there there goes uh so yeah we had to pay $40 for parking where I normally just ride my Mercedes ride in for free but not this year as we take a look at Sloan Stevens US Open champion from uh what 2017 Osaka won it in 18 S Stevens won it in 2017 against her bestie I'm not sure if they're still besties now I I RAR see them together but at the time they were besties Madison Keys ladies and gentlemen that's right Sloan Stevens and Madison Keys were at one point uh best friends but that 2017 US Open Championship that was memorable historic you guys remember that Sloan Stevens literally coming off of an injury season I mean she was her ranking was like like over a thousand and she got back into form and she literally made that run deep into New York which was beautiful and she didn't have like an amazing season that year right she only won 15 matches literally she won 15 matches and seven of them came at the US Open that's crazy literally half of her win output came in New York but the key match is there um she took out bardy in the third round Julia georgees in the round of 16 sevastova in the quarterfinal Venus in the semi-final now if you didn't watch that match between Venus and Sloan listen guys Venus Williams had the match won that would have literally in my opinion been another slam title for Venus how many Slams did Venus win in New York I want to say two right because she won I know she won five at sw19 so I want to say she won two in New York right correct me if I'm wrong so I think that would have been her third slam it would have been her third Slam in New York that would have been amazing but she lost that match and she gave that match away I just felt she played so nonchalant down the stretch that was horrible and of course Sloan would go on to beat Madison Keys 636 love gave her a bagel but swee hug at the net between Madison Keys and Sloan after after that match ended but to watch some of these matches that Venus lost I mean what about the championship against garbino mugara another title that Venus Williams had and should have won lost but again beautiful H at the net for garb the same with Sloan Sloan Venus excuse me in my opinion Venus is the most graceful tennis player I've ever seen in defeat it's like she doesn't take it personal she's like look the better player one and she gives sweet hugs to everyone what about Serena amazing US Open champ right now a couple years ago when Serena had that retirement party if you were complaining about ticket prices now well it was at least $400 for the wor SE in the house to see Serena's farewell they gave us a nice like card we had to hold them up and if you look at the big screen it said I don't know if I remember it said we love you Serena something like that I still have that card by the way it's a collectible and I'm never giving it away but nonetheless guys in terms of ticket prices I'm going to go out on the limb here and I might get some people that are upset I think they're comparable to the price they've always been now I do also think with an pulling out and I just think the state of the tour I think it may do justice to lower the prices but they're about the same guys I buy them every year and they're they are about the same what I would say is if you are going to wait to buy your tickets it is a bit risky because if if you get that one matchup between like you know Novak or alres if you get that top tier matchup the prices could jump however though if a top player is eliminated they could drop so if you're waiting to buy tickets like this one guy is that already booked his flights and still doesn't have tickets be careful because again depending on the schedule they could rise or they could drop historically though I will say if you wait till the last minute and they don't sell out the price should drop historically now there's other apps like there's a game time app that if you really really want to wait you could wait till the start of the match and then the game time app if you buy tickets from there you will get them at a discounted rate but again like if you're going to a match you want to enjoy yourself you want to get there early get your food and beverage sit down enjoy the intro watch the warmup so my personal opinion you're not going to save much money by waiting so just buy your tickets early that's the best thing if you're planning a trip to the new to to New York in the US Open 3 or four months in advance you should find a way to get your tickets early it's as simple as that the last thing you want to worry about is getting to New York and not have tickets that's a nightmare but again guys for those that don't want to pay at all don't forget about fan week right that's the entire week of qualifiers it's free you can walk the grounds you can experience the excitement of seeing all these players from all around the world come to New York and my personal opinion as someone that covers tennis I I kind of think that's what it's all about to seeing these players with a dream a dream to get into the main draw and nowadays I have more I have more fun during fan week just watching all the players that want a shot to get into the draw I have a and then you know you can also enjoy the food and dining and you don't have to pay anything so don't forget about fan week okay guys and for that guy that didn't have tickets he's in New York complaining all over the internet if you didn't go to Fan week then you missed a really really great round three rounds of qualifiers but none less my personal opinion I think ticket prices they're about the same as they've always been and in actuality they've actually come down a little bit in price as well so enjoy the US Open if you're going have fun and that is Venus Williams US Open Champion two time two time and that is who's that Chris Everett now Chris Everett she's been defending eaga a lot lately we have another story where
