[Music] from inside Rogers Center in downtown Toronto MLB the show as inter league action for you this afternoon it's the New York Mets and the Toronto Blue Jays and we'll be back with the first pitch right after this Francisco Lindor comes up to the plate looking for his first big league hit right here the pitch that's outside and this one is off in running that one not close and the count is two immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter always exciting to see a late off home run and an inning kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning that one's in there and and that's strike two the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered he's really going to have to execute against these next couple of batters left-and hitter Waits cut on and Miss struck him out and that's the first out nice recovery after giving up the Homer and now it's Mark Vientos and that's a little high ball one no strike one run acrossing the frame so far and we're just getting started here in the top of the first he next offering is in for a strike late with the swing there a onew count all he seen is fast balls you've got to expect something off speed stay back swung on belted that one's carrying goodbye home run that one felt good it's their second home run of the inning and they add a run it's two nothing Bas is empty one away and now it's the polar bear Pete Alonzo all one there since debuting in 2019 no player in the majors has hit more homers than Pete Alonzo and a foul ball righty delivers swing and a miss for the strike out chase the fast up the ladder for strike three here's Brandon nmo that one finds the corner going [Music] one and that's downed away towards first and it goes just foul next one is off the play two and two recognize that change up right out of the hand just spit on it hammers that one curling down the line and next pitch way up stairs wow this guy's really battling up there as if his run is the game winning out towards Right Center that's well struck and that one hops the wall and he starts his afternoon off right with a double just one of those adats you almost hate to see come to an end great Hands On That Swing to take the inside pitch and drive it into the gap for the double it's easy to spin off a pitch like that Bo and you can pull that thing foul but that was perfect JD Martinez stands in now and watches strike one now wanted one well he's so great about hitting the ball the other way he gets those arms extended so right there just trying to straighten him up a little bit so he doesn't have as Martinez is out that ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand back now in Toronto and it'll be George Springer to step to the plate trying to pick up his first knock in the big lead well after scoring runs this is where you're looking for that shut down inning get that hot team back in there to swing the bats yep that one just misses a ball and no strikes catches the [Music] tough place to be cuz it's not always obvious what adjustments need to be made sometimes it's location sometimes it's being too predictable sometimes you're tipping your pitches he's going to need to too he certainly is Boo the player survey on mlb.com listed him as one of the friendliest infielders to chat with during a game I'm sure appreciates the recognition from his peers two outs and one in scoring position next offering is in for a strike looks like he's just sizing him up there really good pitch to hit but he took it all the way sometimes guys just want to sit their timing later on in the game that may be a Pitch that he turns off he takes it himself to the bag and that'll do it and welcome back to the ballpark here's the catcher Alejandro Kirk Alejandro and here it comes the wine of the pitch outside low and that's ball one [Applause] fouls one off two and two and the pitch gets a piece and stays alive kicks and fires just missed really good take especially with two [Applause] [Music] strikes got him looking for the K he's got to be frustrated with that call and now the Jays Ernie Clement and he bunts but that's a foul ball the Blue Jays down by a pair bottom half of inning number two sorry that's a b next pitch is outside in the air left side and that'll fall for a base hit hooked around that pitch on the outside but he was still able to square it up pretty nicely and that takes quick strong rist to pull that off and now they've got some speed on first so we'll see if they try to get him into motion at the belt and fires in the air to left Center flying after this one they fired in quickly so it's first and second with only one away here's the second basem ner ground ball left side could be two Lor over to Second over Alonzo double play all set for the start of the inning now the number two hitter Jesse Winker and there's one thing on his mind this and that get that first hit at the big league level imediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter Winker batting second in today's lineup and they oh now this one's high and deep way back there on its way gone he sends it out of here and they add to the lead it's three nothing Mark Vientos up now for the Mets on the corner for a strike and it's O and one part of the order coming through now and with one home run already in this inning they're definitely looking to do some more damage [Applause] the pitch ball inside nobody on nobody out with a run in we're here in the top half of inning number three check swing went around slider right there Kirk down to first got him one away on the strike out here's Pete Alonzo Outfield playing very deep not wanting anything over their heads first pitch misses you have to be creative pitching against bad ball hitters you got to add some velocity subtract at times just avoiding the heart of the plate isn't always going to be enough guys like this can hurt you with pitches you wouldn't expect him a swing at and it is two and one well Chris through the early stages he hasn't been very efficient in terms of the pitch count he's going to need to get some quick outs if he's going to get deeper into this game one down base is empty swing and a line drive and a base hit up the middle the B number and now the DH Brandon nmo doubled in his first [Applause] a fast ball for a strike it is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn't even matter that much if your starter doesn't go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens close one doesn't get the call and that's ball one way out front for strike two very well executed change up right there if he can command the fast ball consistently that's going to be an important pitch in terms of him turning this outing around goes down looking and here is JD Martinez he's over one martinz no balls in a strike to JV good pitch to hit on a te up in the zone think he was looking for something else right there way upstairs and it's on the bases though Alonso on third Martinez at second with two gone right through there for a well it stinks to be down by you know these runs early in this ball game like this but you've got two outs you've got to close the door because you still have a chance with how much time is left in this one base hit one run in already now two run score and the lead is up to five picks himself up a couple of ribbies it's hard to hit a baseball much better than that and even a lot of professional hitters aren't able to reach an exit V of 114 mph tell you what that's a very impressive swing of the backat Alvarez in the box now no balls in a [Applause] strike out to short they take the force out and that's the third out back now in Toronto bottom of the inning and the batter will be the short stop Leo Jimenez HZ the wi to kick the pitch and first off ring is fouled off and now the Lefty outside and the count even one and one popped up Lindor makes the grab one down here's the left fielder back towards the wall pulls it in on the warning [Applause] track out to the bullpen for the Jays number 43 and this is the best way to make your major league debut no one on base yeah you're already going to be a little nervous out there so I think it's a nice job by the skipper to get him in here without any added pressure with traffic on the bases and now it's the switch inning second baseman doubled his first time up and he deals and first off ring is fouled [Music] off he swings and fouls one [Applause] off right-handed reliever going to count one and two is understanding in the strike zone very impressive that was a very close O2 fast ball I just don't know how you take that breaking ball inside it's two and [Applause] two next offering is [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] outside this one in the air and he makes the catch and there's one away so the batting order turns over now up to hit Francisco Lindor he's already homered here in this [Applause] one and a foul ball for Lindor being drafted out of monver Academy he's a guy that's turned into one of the best all-around players in the game swing and that ball smashed on a line and there's a hit so a man aboard now with one away just a really nice approach to shoot that line drive to the opposite field there's a lot of hard work and discipline that goes into getting a result like that at the plate doesn't come naturally for most hitters run around the move pitch in for a strike safe it's second and that was not close Lindor over at second one down that one catches the zone and it's 0 and two it doesn't seem to like the pitch up hasn't offered on either one of those pitches 02 count now I think the guy's going to climb the ladder out there oh he hit him and that got him pretty flush he had two strikes on him and he hit him now so first and second with one gone so up next for New York Mark Vientos he's already homered in this game [Applause] fought off foul Runners at first and second with one gone swing and a miss and it's two really good back to- back sliders now in an 02 count he's feeling real confident about finishing this hitter off he can go anywhere he wants two on one out SS and misses top of the list and there's a ball and you played behind guys and they love having your speed out there defensively one of the things that we talk about is how much pitchers enjoy having those Elite Defenders behind him the onew swings through it and that's a strike out here's Vladimir Guerrero Jr oh for one so far Guerrero Jor H and the one thing about that is speed never goes in a slump and defense shouldn't either hitting wise you can struggle you can lose your mechanics but the thing that you can do consistently every single game is play great this one swung on and hit well way back there and brings it in at the wall well I didn't think he got it off the B wi made it a lot more interesting than expected nice job of the center fielder push it all the way back to the warning track man KK batting for the second time and that strike one that's outside and the count is one and one two outs B that's [Music] [Applause] out and it's strike two two balls two strikes sharp ground that's through for a base hit Joey gets on base and keeps it going now batt third Ernie Clement next up for the Blue Jays and the first pitch misses for ball one up the middle and it's through for a hit so that's two straight two out hits throw in holds the lead runner at second two on now with two away the designated and next is the designated hitter Spencer Horwitz that's in there that's strike one first and second two down look out and it hit him well in the Box he's seen that movie before it wasn't a good movie either he knew how it was going to end right from the beginning now it's the second baseman he hit to a play his first time up big swing and a miss o and one that's outside one and one this one in the air center field Winker makes the grab and that's the inning ready now for the fifth inning now JD Martinez at the plate the right hander back to work up and in and it's w to0 well these Mets digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they're taking it's been a real team effort already seven extra base hits so that goes to show they're getting contributions from top to bottom nobody's doing that by themselves rander kick deals [Applause] keeps the that one lifted in the air center field Winker should have it one up one down now the left fielder he's over one Joey Ledo top of the zone for a called strike Bas is empty one away last half of inning number five ball that one missing [Applause] inside and another ball now Fly ball to Right Center sizes this one up what a play in right field and there's two down and the batter is George Springer every day during batting practice these outfielders get about 10 minutes of balls in the gaps they practice this and when the game comes they make the play perfectly just [Applause] missed the two- is in for a strike one strike f ball for a [Applause] strike got it by him for the K oh set for the top of the six and stepping in for New York number five alare the pitch in there for a strike at the top of the Zone in the air out towards Right Center sizing this one up and there's one down back to the top of the lineup here's Francisco Lindor with this kind of lead he can swing freely try to hit the ball out of the park do what he loves to do that one almost got him Francisco Lindor at the pl the Met Short Stop originally drafted by Cleveland and a guy with some serious power and an excellent Defender one down base is empty and that one in the air center field sizes this one up he makes the catch and there's two now Jesse Winker will hit next that's a really nice play ranging back into the outfield for that catch we all know those can be a little tricky especially if the wind swirling around out there that one's in there that's strike one [Applause] swings and misses at the pitch off the plate more and more guys are looking to slug regardless of the count and this situation will'll keep a close eye on his approach the next pitch misses now one and two one ball two strikes of the plane about as well as anyone in the sport how difficult is that to do I'll just look at the back of my bubblegum card you'll see how hard it is these guys are great man they have the ability to look out there but also to be able to turn on the inside pitch those that can really sharpen things on the outer half those are the ones that become El lead HS and misses it's a strike out two outs wine of the pitch Mana still out there to pitch the E and working with a big lead he's been excellent really on his game in this one and at this point he wants to finish what he started makes the catch and there's one gone is there a debate to be had about shutting him down maybe to preserve some bullets given the score absolutely when you consider over the course of a long season guys putting a lot of stress on that elbow on that shoulder but you also have to pry the ball lot of a hand of a guy like this because he's so competitive late that time and it's strike two no ball two [Music] looking at the pitching matchup where you expected offense to score and not as lopsided as this um but yeah you definitely expected to see some offense coming [Applause] up and now one and two over and we're back here's the center fielder Dal bar I mean his pitch efficiency ability get ahead and count at times pitch to contact let the defense work behind him that's why he's still in the game here in the and now the Lefty that one fouled off you just don't see it that much anymore a guy being dis efficient in getting this deep into the game I wonder if he's going to be able to close it out this is something about that ninth inning being at under 100 pitches he still got plenty of fuel left in the tank Guerrero batting with one down takes the strike outside low and one and [Applause] one Li Drive brings it in that's out number two so it's their last chance in this one Alejandro KK next up for the Blue Jays first pitch and he just misses well just about to hit that century mark 100 pitches for this game and it's foul away the Jays with a lot of ground to make up here at the last half of inning number nine here's a chopper to short Lindor on the first ball game and the Mets get a shut out on the mound Mania gets his first big league win and what a performance he put together to do it singing a complete Game feels like one of those outings you can only dream about I doubt he went out there today thinking that he's going to go the distance but he had it all working and they let him finish the job I love that that was something special very cool to see 10
