Gregor I know it can be tough to play a good friend like Andre but you are headed to your first US Open quarterfinal since 2019 what did you tell yourself going into that fifth set that allowed you to get it done uh I don't know I was playing I was playing fairly good I think the first two sets um but I don't know for some reason my body was starting to to lose its uh lose its Rhythm a little bit and he he's not going to just give up the match you know how he is and uh I just had to to stay patient and I think today the biggest thing that helped me was uh my experience and then you guys honestly that was uh that was that I mean I love the atmosphere here uh it brings back such a good memories from 2019 so I was like why not another five Setter so we're we're in a good F Gregor for a guy who survived the big four era there is a lot of opportunity in this draw you get the winner of papin and tifo do you watch tonight and what is your process to get ready for that one I'm going to enjoy tonight uh I think I'm I'm trying to to enjoy every single moment I'm celebrating every single day that I get to be out here and uh you know just focusing on myself it's it's um you know I've I've had a very tough weeks like with with my body and everything so I just want to focus on on my Rehab on the good things that I did today the things that I can that I can improve so I mean just trying to be as basic as possible but I'm I'm through to be here in the second week so thank you guys it is your 14th straight US Open and at 33 years young you're the oldest guy left in the singles draw do you feel wiser more mature are you keeping up with these gen Z guys yeah I feel very mature so uh you no it's been uh you know it's it's uh it's a battle every single day and now I think where I'm at that's what I'm saying like it's more of my experience I mean everyone knows how to play a great tennis it all comes down to a few points here and there and that's what actually happened today couple of points in the fifth set and uh that was uh that was enough to get me over the line but I mean either way like every match that that you're going you're going to play it's just going to get tougher and tougher so um just try to focus um on myself on my game my side of the net and uh enjoy in front of you guys so thank thank you lastly Gregor there's an old friend of yours in the stands today in the form of six-time US Open Champion Serena [Applause] Williams how much fun is it to have her here and do you get nervous playing in front of her for some reason not in front of her uh she gave me a good prep talk yesterday yeah I know exactly so uh no no I'm I'm I'm thrilled so uh it's it's it's amazing honestly to play again in front of you guys in front of like uh good friends and you know family so oh and know it's uh it's a tremendous atmosphere so again thank you all thank you so much for the support congrats Gregor best of luck he attended to the quarterfinals Gregor deit
