why are people pissed off about Jonathan Dickinson State Park let's get into it new Florida state park initiative could bring golf courses to Jonathan Dickinson State Park on Monday the Florida Department of Environmental Protection announced its 2024 to 2025 Great Outdoors initiative which will expand Public Access increase outdoor activities and provide new lodging options across Florida's state parks the initiative will also expand outdoor activities at some parks like pickle ball disc golf Golf and paddling one of the Florida parks that will be getting some proposed changes is Jonathan Dickinson State Park in hob Sound Florida and one change that's getting significant push back rightfully so from residents and environmentalists is the proposed addition of three golf courses across 1 thousand acres of the Park's natural habitat so guys a little history on Jonathan Dickinson State Park it was established in 1950 uh the park has 10,000 acres in total they want to take a th000 of the acres and convert it into two 18-hole golf courses one nine-hole Golf Course potentially add some pickle ball and disc golf and some lodging uh so you could stay in the park but honestly right now you can already Camp you can already hike enjoy the park Etc so I can see why they're getting a lot of push back so basically guys part of breaking ground and and building these golf courses is going to destroy a natural habitat for a lot of animals such as the scrub J bird um and there's a really cool observation tower in the park that is beautiful if you ever get a chance to uh check it out you can kind of see it when you drive by uh and it's it's incredible and so far there's there's a woman uh that's created a 15,000 member page on Facebook I believe that's basically a ton of people pushing back on this and I can see why you know it's like I play golf I love golf I felt like I would be a good candidate to talk about this because sure the course would be sweet to play at but but does that mean we should up the Integrity of the park itself and change why the park is beautiful in the first place right so not only am I a golfer and understand why they might want to do it but I also understand that Wildlife is to be protected guys Nature's to be protected especially at our state parks like there's enough places in Florida there's enough open land to build to build golf courses and plus it's already the golf capital of the country right there's hundreds of courses to play within a few hour radius of where this state park is I also felt really passionate about this because I'm a musician and ironically enough before this was announced this past week I actually just released a video that was filmed at Jonathan Dickinson State Park in hob sound which is crazy timing but I was basically looking around for beautiful places to to film outdoors and I stumbled across Jonathan Dickinson particularly the hob sound tower that they want to tear down so if you want to check out the music video It's called out here again by myself Nico James basically guys like the video shows the true beauty of the park and just the fact that being a golfer just film there I love wildlife and and looking at this from a completely objective standpoint leave the park alone there's enough places to play golf and do other activities um and not only is this initiative affecting Jonathan Dickinson it's actually affecting nine different state parks which they go into in these articles I will include both articles in the description one's from the West Palm Beach TV from Tampa Bay times I hope that this video brings you some new information that you may or may not have known before you're supposed to use your platform to uh stand up for what you believe in sometimes and I just really wanted to use this as an opportunity to make a video that uh one would provide some information and two would hopefully make a difference because I'm seen a lot of people particularly friends of mine uh acquaintances in the area fans of mine um that have seen me perform in the area I see them posting and and they're very upset and my first reaction was yeah you can't screw around with this these parks golf is not that important nature is more important than golf there's a ton of places to play and we don't need to build them on state parks guys so thank you for watching I hope this video gave you some information being that I just filmed there being being that I'm a golfer being that I love nature and I just felt like it was right to make a video about it so thank you for watching and if you'd like to sign the petition to help save uh these Parks from potential uh go to a change.org um that's where you can do the petition I will include a link in the description for that there will be a meeting on August 27th in the Flagler of Stewart if you guys want to actually really get active and go up there and what's going on uh it's at 300 p.m. and the music video If you really want to see the beauty of the park um it turned out great and I think you guys would enjoy the video so thank you for watching I hope this video makes a difference Take Care thank you oh and as Joe Rogan would say protect our Parks hey people leave them Parks alone
